You guys know how I've been searching high a low for a desk for like...ever! Well after a trip to Ikea I've found what I need. It wasn't technically made to even be a desk. In fact, it's supposed to be a bookcase, but it works for all my needs and it makes me so happy. Before now I hadn't purchased anything big like this from Ikea do I was kinda in for a surprise when I had to do so much work. Nevertheless, four hours later and multiple breaks to YouTube how the heck to put doors on, I finally had it done. I felt do accomplished. And the best part of all is its completely customizable. I have a line I want to hang to display color swatches or idea that have been inspiring me and I've still got to get my Ledberg light up, but overall I think it's awesome!

Cozy & Snug

Recently I bought some blizzard fleece from Jo-Ann's for half off (hoorah for coupons!). When I bought it I knew exactly what I planned for it to be. If you know me in real life you know that I love Hello Kitty. You also know that whenever I spend the night anywhere I always bring my own pillow and blanket. I love the smells of home and being assured that the blanket I sleep with will be comfy. No one likes to sleep in a strange place and be itchy, or worse, have to inhale the smell of the back of their closet all night. The blanket was incredibly simple and didn't take too long to make. It was simple enough that Ash helped me out. That, my friends, is something that never happens. It could even be a craft you do with kids, granted it could be super pricey without the right coupons. All I needed was some scissors and my thumb. I used my thumb to measure how long and wide to make the cuts and after that the only thing left to do was knot all the strings. The only side note is to start in the middle. The sides are the hardest and I usually cut out the corners anyway, just so there's not jumbling up. Oh, and of course make sure the fleece is lined up evenly. It probably only took us about an hour to do it as well. Perfect for those short attention spans.

Summer Summer Summertime!

If you follow me on Instagram Twitter you probably already know about my crazy busy schedule. If not trust me when I say that I was so unaware of how crazy demanding summer classes are. Demanding as in cramming 40+ hours of homework into a few short weeks. Not to mention studying a all that stuff It was so worth it though. I'm really glad I didn't put it off until the semester. To say farewell to the late nights and early mornings, Ash and I did some experimenting. You know how they say "it's so hot outside you can fry an egg." They lied. We grabbed the ancient egg from the back of the fridge and took it out to the street. After about 30 seconds I realized I'm too much of a wimp to sit in the sun and wait. I trucked it back inside and ten minutes later went back out to check on it.

The egg had not fried at all but in fact wrinkled. See how in the bottom picture its pretty much turned solid. Most of the whites had evaporate by the time I went back out.

Don't get me wrong, it was definitely hot enough. In the time it took to walk the 72 steps from my front to door to the street, take two pictures, and com back my ice cream sandwich started to melt and was running down the paper. So much for that idea. I've got another plan up my sleeve for later on tonight. Its cute, and comfy, and has nothing to do with the heat. I'll show you what it is tomorrow. Stay cool guys! App Lovin'

I don't know about you, but I for one am an app hoarder. Before recently I had around 6 or 7 full pages of them. I feel like looking at the apps alone that a person has tells a ton about them. From the ones shown you can tell am big on social networking, organization and home improvement, and of course food. Its like someone was asked to sum me up in a few apps.

Yesterday I found the Ikea Catalogue app and I felt like I had died and gone to home design heaven. Seriously, if I could marry any inanimate object it would be Ikea, hands down.

Magic Plan is another really cool app. I've read everything about it but I must admit I have yet to use it. I always thing about it at night and I feel like good lighting will be necessary to get a good plan. Basically, you stand in the middle of the room and turn slowly as the app uses your iPhones camera to take in the surrounds and build your floor plan. How simpler can it be? Every time I decide to rearrange a room I measure and draw out a floor plan of the room and on a separate sheet do the same for all the furniture and cut it out. Then its easy to see how things will fit before moving. Let me tell you, its A LOT easier to move around scraps of paper than chairs and sofas.

UPDATE: I tried out Magic Plan literally minutes before going to Ikea and it took me no more than 7 minutes to do the whole apartment. It was so easy to learn and does a lot of accommodating for user error..

Weave is the great for those running businesses or just trying to keep organized projects. It allow you to keep track of dates and priorities for projects pretty much keeps you on task, which I definitely need.

Wishing Away

Since my birthday is a few days away- actually, a couple if we’re being exact- I decided now would be a good time post the list of things I’d love if there was ever an infinite money tree growing in the back yard. As always, click the pictures to be taken to the item page.
I’ve been in love with the Kigali Tom shades since I first saw them in the booklet they sent in the mail. There’s something about anything polarized that wins be over every time. It does hurt that their cute and they serve an amazing purpose. For every pair purchased Toms gives the gift of sight to someone in need. Well worth the $119.

While we’re on the topic of Toms, here’s a pair I’ve been wanting for a while now. I missed that train though, because now they’re out of my size. Boo!

Toms+ nautical= AWESOME! I’ve been really digging nautical themes now, and yellow- as you’ve probably guessed. Another theme you probably didn’t miss was Toms. I love that they help those in need and of course the cute and comfy product. Toms gets a thumbs up for convincing me to wear real shoes. Ash and my family spend a good deal of time trying to drag me out of my Old Navy flip flops.

Not from Toms, I want a new lens for my camera, throw in a class with that and I’ll be golden. I’ve been spending a lot of time learning via the internet and trial and error but I’m still very lost and find myself resorting to auto. My camera came with a 10-30 mm lens and best buy threw in a free 55 mm polarizer :/ Obviously it doesn’t fit my lens, but maybe there’s something I missed. If so, please excuse my ignorance. I love the pictures taken with the 30-110 mm. I should probably learn more about what I have first, right. But it doesn’t hurt to window shop.

I’ve also been wanting a set of Hello Kitty seat covers for Fez, my Chevy Tracker, but I’ve yet to find a set I like at a price I want to pay.
I can’t believe after next week I will no longer be a teenager. I still find myself thinking numbers like 17 when someone asks how old I am. I feel like a baby. Time to get a tad more serious about life, ha, maybe not, but there are a few things I want to do in the future. Long term and short term. I’ll share those with you next week. If I am anything at all I'm a serious sweets fan. I've proclaimed at multiple times of life that all of my teeth are my sweet tooth. This is something I will definitely be trying. I have too! It's one of the few things on my list that I can cook well and I found it just days before my birthday. It's a sign. I'll let you know how it goes.

Home Crushing

Lately I’ve been watching a lot of the show 18 to Life on Netflix and I can’t help but have a huge crush on Tom and Jessie’s attic apartment. Its come so far from the puke pink it once was.

From the low vaulted ceilings to the bright pops of color I am head over heels! I love the odd shape of the cabinets and how they flow with the angle of the ceiling. The built it shelving is definitely swoon worthy. To say that it is no where near the crisp and clean homes on the cover of BHG, it has plenty of character. The modern blues and yellows compliment well the older furniture, though I wouldn’t dare live with that floral wallpaper. Still, the apartment fits the characters well. These colors make an eclectic mix. Are there any houses you’re crushing on?

Heartbroken

Remember the desk I told you about here and then update you about here and here? Well here's the final update and the reason for my heartbreak. Here's the story, from beginning to end. I had been looking for months for a cheap armoire style desk and finally found one at a thrift store for $35. I was stoked because everything else I had seen was around $200-$300...in thrift stores. Ha! It couldn't possibly fit in our little car so she said she would hold it up to 30 days for us. I assured her I wouldn't need that much time. I returned the next day only to find the shop closed, contrary to posted hours of operation. For the next month I called her probably every other day to arrange to pick it up but there was always a different "relative in the hospital" and there was no way any other person could open the shop so I could retrieve the desk. As the one month holding period wound down, so did my patience and to be honest, my kindness. Monday my patience finally wore out, after she promised to deliver it the previous Wednesday and ignored my calls, I left her an impatient message. Of course she never returned my call so Tuesday I called again and finally got through. She apologized a million times, without ever acknowledging my calls or messages, and said she would contact her delivery guy and call back before 5PM. She also kept saying she "was a god fearing woman" and "would never do nothing like that to nobody" when I asked flat out had she sold it to someone else. If you guessed 5 o'clock rolled around without a call from her you're right. You deserve a cupcake! She did though, have an associate call and tell me that a relative came in while she was away and sold it without her knowledge, though I watched her put a SOLD sign on it. Likely story, right? He offered to refund my money and reimburse me for gas. He promised that she was a good lady just trying to run a shop to supplement her fixed income, followed by a few other sob stories about her husband's health and lack of finances. Excuse me for not caring after she showed me the worst customer care for a month straight. When it comes to this I don't have much sympathy. Everyone has money issues. I'm a college student! I know all about not having money- though I'm not complaining at all, please don't think that. I would like to say that he was very kind and helpful about the situation and even went around town trying to find me one to replace the other. I really wish I had worked with him from the jump. If I had there wouldn't be any drama and I wouldn't be looking for someone to report her to. Kidding! Kind of. So if any of you readers are in the Fayetteville area and have one I can buy or can point me in the direction I will love your forever... and there may be some cupcakes in it for you!

Should I tell you? Should I let you in on the special secret? Urghh...
Heads or tails? Nevermind, I can't find a loose coin. Okay I'll tell you. But only because you're awesome and I like you. Mandi has a club. Wait? Did you just ask who Mandi was? She's only the most awesome person in the blogosphere. She's like the Micheal Jackson of blogging, except ya know she's alive. And is a girl (clearly). Seriously, what rock have you been hiding under? Go check her out. Right now! I'll wait.
Okay back to business. So Mandi has a club called the FFA that's all about creating, designing, and making friends. I kinda wanted to keep it secret because it always fun to have a cool little secret, ya know. But it's also fun to share it with your coolest friends so you can all be cool together, right? So only tell your fun friends.
The challenge set is to describe your personality. A home reflects your personality, but before you can get elbow deep in paint you've gotta decide what parts of you you want it to portray. I'd like to thing of myself as a friendly person. I want my home go be one that friends can feel welcome to come sit down and drink some lemonade in. Get real comfy cozy. I'm not too much of an open book though. I like the idea of homes that seem nice to look at first glance but has tons of quirks to keep your mind going for hours if you so choose to look deeper. I want a home where people can actually make themselves at home.

P.S. I am actually not terrible at grammar. I know that you should never start a sentence with "but" or "and" or anything like that, but that's not how I talk in everyday speech. And after all this is a blog. Just imagine where chatting mkay!

Charger in Disguise

I don’t have a Friday Fave this week. Well I do have something in mind but I have something better for you in store. A project! Haven’t seen one of those around here in a while. I’ve seen this around Pinterest a lot and have been meaning to give it a try. I’m warning you ahead of time that both Ash and my aunt gave me crazy looks while doing this project and ~~now~~ they think I’m nuts (nevermind…that ship sailed years ago). My aunt gave me dirty looks for ruining a perfectly good book but no worries, I fell asleep on the book ~~thrice~~ (is that a word?) so I've decided it would serve a better purpose this way. I was to busy working diligently to even think about taking pictures…sorry! Basically, I took my charger and traced it on the book, then cut that out of the cover and through a million and five of the pages. After it was as far down as I wanted it I created a little tunnel for the cord to go through. It was really simple to do, just time consuming and tedious. That’s okay though, because I’m anal and I know it. I pinned it here but after doing mine I’ve seen people screw the little charging dock pieces into the cover. I kinda thought of it as I was going along but I don’t have one and have waiting issues. I think I’ll probably go back and add it though because of the way it leans and the stress that it’s more than likely putting on my cord. All in all I like the way I won’t be losing my charging cord on a daily basis anymore.

(The scratches on the table, yea were not gonna talk about those. I have a refinish in mind for some day.)

Ah what the heck, since I like you guys I’ll do a fave too. This stuff I literally cannot function without. Ash picks at me because I’m the only person she knows that can actually get through an entire tube of chapstick without losing it. If I don’t have one with me it consumes my mind and I don’t focus. It sounds obsessive but don’t judge! This is good stuff here sister! They make my lips feel so soft and the moisture lasts for hours.

Thankful

At the beginning of class today I was cranky. Upset that I had forgotten my umbrella and it was pouring and that in trying to jump over a puddle I missed and my Uggs were soaked. As class progressed a friend came in late, crying and shook that her car fish-tailed and she just barely missed two 18 wheelers. If that wasn't enough another girl came in later upset that after missing a month of class due to the illness and death of her father she wouldn't be allowed to drop this class. Between two tests and plenty of notes difficult can't even begin to explain how hard it will be for her to catch up. In these moments I realized how crazy I was to worry about wet shoes (which by the way were completely dry by class end) there is so much more to be grateful for. The fact that I'm alive and well enough to write this is a huge blessing in itself. I know life has its downs and somehow its easier to be cranky over 1 or 2 letdowns than thankful for millions of blessings, but this day has taught me how important it is to try each and every day to be grateful for all that I have been given and utilize my gifts for a greater good. This post won't end with a project or favorite item, but in hopes that by sharing you too will be grateful as well.

Friday Faves: Nikon J1 and an Update

Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone! Hopefully you’re wearing green or I’ll have to pinch you!
Typically Friday Faves happen on Fridays. I know this. Today is Saturday. I know that too. But last night, after much deliberation I finally picked up the Nikon J1. I figured that being a gadget, and new, it would automatically jump to the top of my list of favorite things. It did! I still have ~~a lot~~ everything to learn but the clarity of the pictures is amazing.

Here are my first couple of pictures. As you can see Mr. Whiskerz has taken over the suitcase chair. A few days ago I finally just took off the back since he’s the only one that ever sits in it. It’s now his bed when he’s not making one out of every other surface in our apartment. As you can see, he was bothered by me making so much noise and taking pictures of him. Naps are really important to him.
On to the update. Remember forever ago when I told you about the awesome desk armoire I found and how she wasn’t there so I wasn’t able to pick it up. Well it appears her shop is only open at her convenience. Which sucks!! I don’t know when I’ll finally be able to bring it home. Hopefully soon, I can’t wait to give it a fresh paint of coat and make it into the one in my head.

Friday Faves: Vera

I told ya'll a white back that I am not a purse girl. Like not even a little bit. I didn't even have any in the same state as me, they had all been in storage for over a year and I didn't care the least bit. A few months back I started reconsidering. I needed to keep more with me because I was doing more and stuffing everything in my pockets or wallet just didn't suffice. When shopping, I was looking for something that wasn't huge but had plenty of space and organization. I also wanted something that would last. Obviously, if I was questioning whether to buy the first one I didn't intend on a second or third. The Vera Bradley Little Mandy in Happy Snails was the perfect match for me. The colors fit me perfectly and it has seven pockets. I can't believe this little thing keeps me so organized. Needless to say it's a keeper. I've carried it for months now daily and its still in great condition. It still looks good even after washing half a cup of coffee out of it.

Favorite Product Friday

I love it when friends introduce me to new products that I fall in love with. That can seriously turn an okay friendship into a great one. Am I the only one like that? If so, I'm fine with that. Since sharing is caring, and everyone loves a good buy, I want to start sharing some of my favorite products with you guys. I'm not being compensated for sharing and my opinions are completely my own so there's no worries that I'm influenced, mkay? Let's get this party started.

If you remember back to my post here I talked about how I really wanted to get the iPhone. Well I did, and when I did I got this case and I have to say that I absolutely adore it. It makes running out of the door when I'm late, which may or may not happen often, a pinch. It also comes in handy when I don't feel like rambling around in the bottom of my purse (which by the way I did finally give in and buy) for my wallet. If I had to say anything negative about this case at all its that the rubber gets a bit dingy over time. I thought I might have an issue with the white but its actually the blue part that's starting to get dirty but I'm pretty sure I can clean that up with my Magic Eraser. This product was well worth the buy. I usually change cases like I change clothes but I don't even want any other. It's seriously just that great. Here's the link.

I was unofficially tagged by one of my favorite bloggers Maybe Matilda to answer a few questions about myself. So if you’re interested, here goes…

1. Since I admitted my celebrity crushes, past and present . . . go ahead and name one (or two, or three) of yours. Male or female. Heaven knows I have plenty of each.

I adore Zoe Saldana. She seems like she would be really cool in person. I know a lot of people hate her, but I love Angelina Jolie too.

2. What’s your favorite book?

The one book I can read over and over is Tell No One. It’s been my favorite for about 5 years. I don’t think it’s going anywhere, although there’s some fierce competition.

3. What are your 5 favorite TV shows?

I don’t watch too much TV, but I’d have to say any and everything on HGTV. If I’m watching TV, I watch plenty of Law and Order: SVU or Monk, although I really don’t like the new girl. Nothing personal, it’s just no one can compare to Sharona. I like Cupcake Wars too, big surprise. Last but not least, South Park. I may or may not randomly yell “I am a cop and you will respect my authority!” around the house.

4. Guilty pleasure?

I am incapable of turning down sugar or chocolate. Cookies, cakes, ice cream –oh man, especially ice cream- my mouth refuses to deny.

5. Any goals you’re currently working on?

My current goals are decorating my house, painting some furniture, and learning to quilt.

6. A trend or style you’ve wanted to try, but been scared to?

I’ve seen maxi dresses around a lot and I’ve been toying around with the idea of trying one, but at 5’0 I’m afraid that on the off chance I am able to find one that doesn’t drag the ground it will still make me look dwarflike.

7. A skill you’d love to learn?

I never got around to tell you guys, but I finally got around to buying a real sewing machine. That was over a month ago and I’ve still never seen it. I’ve opened the box, and watched some of the instructional DVD, but I still haven’t taken it out of the box. I’m afraid I’ll ruin it or something. By the way, I’ve only ~~read~~ watched the instructions to maybe four other things in life. Yea, I’m the rebel type. I’d love to know how to sew though. My goal is to sew a pretty quilt for my bed. Fingers crossed!

8. If you had a day to yourself with unlimited money to spend and no obligations, what would you do?

I would spend the morning redecorating my house. After that, I’d throw on some shorts, hop in the car, roll down the windows, and head to the beach. Possibly do a little shopping, definitely visit the aquarium, and finish off the day with a shore side bon fire at sunset.

9. A person (living or dead) you’d love to meet?

Hmm, there’s no dead people I’d like to meet, but if I could be friends with celebrities I’d choose Kate Hudson, Adam Sandler, Leslie Chow (from The Hangover), Zack Galfianakis, and Kendra Wilkinson.

10. If you weren’t doing the career you’re doing now (being a stay-at-home mom counts as a career), what would you want to be doing instead?

I would absolutely love to design houses. You know how the guys go in to those ugly boring houses and do a ton of hammering, sawing, and painting and after the commercial they show the most drool-worthy houses ever. Yea, I’d love to do that. Who says a woman can’t work power tools?!

11. What are the names you want/wanted to give your kids until your meanie-pants spouse vetoed them?

In second grade my friend’s older sister’s name was Nyell. She was incredibly nice even though it was probably was super lame to be seen with your little brother and his friend. Nevertheless, I too though passing on the name magically passed on the traits- no worries Rachel, you’re not alone. I also, like Adrian and Alexis. I’m not a mother, or married for that part, so my meanie-pants souse hasn’t yet vetoed anything but those are just names I’ve always liked.

Desk Armoire

Anyone who knows me IRL knows that I’ve devoted the majority of my attention to creating a home that I love that fits the life we live. Many also know that I’ve been craving something like this desk for over a year and when I really want something that bad I find a way to get it, even if I have to make it myself. With furniture being moved out, and some in, it seemed like it was finally the right time to start my hunt. We searched a few places and saw some nice ones but the thrift store was asking for $300! Ash suggested a little thrift store to me and I agreed to check it out.The one we ended up finding was in really good condition and get this, the lady only wanted $35. That’s $265 less than the previous thrift store! We go to pick it up tomorrow. I was an air head and forgot to snap a picture of it before we left so you’ll have to wait to see it, but man! I can’t believe the major price drop. I have to give her her props, for once she was a better shopper than me. I am too excited over this steal, can you tell? Ill be back tomorrow with pictures.

Resolutions

It's that time of year, where we make resolutions that may or may not make it past Valentine's Day. This year I wanted something that stuck. All last year I've been working to become healthier. Not just to lose weight, but to get in the habit of making decisions that are better for my body. I ran across this app called Noom that helps me do just that. Right now I'm using the free trial for Noom Pro and I love it. Every day my coach (which I got to choose) gives me a few tasks to get me working in the direction my goal. These tasks range from reading a mini article to doing squats. The tasks don't take too long to complete, so they don't get in the way of my already busy schedule. My absolute favorite thing about Noom is how easy it is to use. I don't have to measure anything or look up points. All I need is my hand and I'm set. This is a great app to get me moving towards a smarter lifestyle. If you're reading from your Droid you can download it here (sorry Apple fans). Oh, and another thing, you can completely customize Noom so that you lose 20 pounds in 2 months, or 100 over the course of a year. You choose everything. With this app I know I this resolution will be one that sticks.

Scarf

I've been really into scarves lately. Cowls especially. I spotted this one over at I Am Momma and was instantly head over heels. Now to find a sweater to make one of my own. I can't wait to have a cozy one of my own.

As the holiday season comes to a close I've been reflecting on some of my favorite holiday memories. On of which was helping my nephew write his letter to Santa. Or at least I thought I was helping him. You wouldn't believe how many times I heard "I know how to spell it."

My other favorite occurred on Christmas Eve. We came over late that night to find cookies on the table. Being that we don't have kids it didn't occur to us, even after seeing the child-like decorations, that our nephew probably left those for Santa. Not once...until his mom heard us munching in the kitchen and filled us in. Since the damage was done already done, we saw no choice but to finish them off. We left an empty cup of milk beside the plate of crumbs for him to find. The next day he went around ecstatically showing everyone the empty plate. I can't lie his excitement was so cute. We'll probably be on the naughty list for life though.
