Diskless Boot Technology Background
Diskless boot is a technology based on IP (Internet Protocol), UDP (User Datagram Protocol), DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) and TFTP (Trivial File Transfer Protocol). It requires two computers: diskless boot server and client. The client is a computer you want to diskless boot up on LAN, while the server is a combination of DHCP server and TFTP server. It responds requests from diskless stations over network, allocates IP addresses via DHCP for them, pushes necessary data to these stations so that they can boot on LAN even without a harddisk. CCBoot support diskless internet cafe and diskless solution cybercafe.

If using diskless boot solution, the boot process is as bellow:
1. Power on,
2. Load BIOS,
3. PXE stack built-in the NIC (Network Information Center),
4. Download NBP (Network Boot Program) from server to client's RAM by TFTP,
5. NBP's responsibility to perform the next step (a.k.a. 2nd stage boot).
As an administrator responsible for a network of about dozens of computers or more, Diskless boot program will drastically reduce your daily workload. If you want to install or upgrade various softwares for all computers in the network, you just need to do it one time and all computers can get changed. Using CCBoot to Build a Diskless Boot Server
1. Install Diskless Boot Server with CCBoot - An all-in-one Diskless Boot Software
  Download diskless boot software - CCBoot server installation package from - http://www.ccboot.com/download.htm.
  Launch ccbootsetup.exe on the diskless boot server and keep press the next button to the end.

  CCBoot will use the following ports - 67 (DHCP), 69 (TFTP), 3260 (iSCSI), 1000 (Image Upload), 8001 (Service Control). You need to open these ports in the firewall of the diskless boot server. Since CCBoot v2.1, you also need to open port 66. V2.1 uses port 66 as DHCP backup.
  
  Note: Please shut down the other DHCP services on the LAN especially the DHCP service in the router.
  
  Launch CCBoot and you will get the main interface as bellow:

2. Initialize the Diskless Boot Server
  Demo Environment
  Server IP: 192.168.1.10
  Gateway: 192.168.1.1
  DNS Address: 192.168.1.1
  IP Mask: 255.255.255.0
  DHCP Range: 192.168.1.101-192.168.1.254
  
  Launch the diskless boot software - CCBoot, menu "Options" -> "Options Wizard" and configure step by step as bellow:

  You need to select the correct local IP address as "DHCP Server IP". Press "Scan DHCP" to check if there are other DHCP services on the LAN. You need to stop other DHCP services on the LAN.

  Set "Server IP Address". Normally, it’s the same as "DHCP Server IP".
  Set "Write-back File Path" and "Image Save Path" as you want.
  
  "Write-back File Path" is used to store the diskless booted clients’ write-back data. You’d better use a big volume hard disk as "Write-back File Path". This disk should be formatted as NTFS and 64K bytes per cluster.
  
  "Image Save Path" is used to store the boot images. This disk should be also formatted as NTFS and 64K bytes per cluster. You’d better use a fast speed hard disk as "Image Save Path". For example, use an SAS hard disk.

3. Create Image for Diskless Boot Windows XP
  To diskless boot Windows XP over network with the diskless boot software - CCBoot, we first of all need to create a system image and here're the steps -
  1. Choose one client PC as master PC used to create diskless boot image. Attach a hard disk on the PC.
  2. Delete all partitions first. Allocate a small MBR partition about 40G size and leave the rest unallocated. Format the 40G partition with NTFS. Install Windows XP and the latest SP into this partition.
  3. After complete Windows installation, open the local area connection network properties and configure as bellow:

    Click "Properties".

    Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and click "Properties".

    Select "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically", then click "OK" to save.
  4. On the CCBoot diskless boot server you will find a client in the client list (Figure 10) that was added by CCBoot automatically when the client PC got IP address from the CCBoot DHCP service.

  5. Double click the client to edit and check both "Enable Upload Image" and "Keep Write-back File" (Figure 11), when press "save" button it will ask you "Are you sure to delete write-back file?" Just press "No".

  6. Download CCBoot client installation package from: http://www.ccboot.com/download.htm. Launch ccbootsetupclient.exe and keep press the next button to the end. Then launch CCBoot client and you will see the main interface as bellow (Figure 12).

  7. Press the "Install CCBoot Client" button. After finished, it will require reboot system. Reboot the client PC.
  8. After reboot, launch CCBootClient again, input the correct "Server IP address", it should be the IP address of the PC on which CCBoot server has been located. Input the image file name as you want in the "Image File Name". Press the "Upload Image" button to upload the image to the CCBoot server. Then CCBoot will create an image in the server "Image Save Path".
    
    Note: CCBoot supports two types image file format. It supports VMDK if you are using Windows 2003 as CCBoot server system. It will support both VMDK and VHD if you are using Windows 7 or Windows 2008. As you can see in Figure 12, the file format depends on what you have set for "Image File Name". For example, "XP01.vmdk" and "XP01.vhd".
4. Diskless Boot Windows XP on LAN
  1. On CCBoot diskless boot server, double click PC101 (Figure 10) to open the master PC’s properties dialog box, uncheck "Enable Upload Image" and "Keep Write-back File".
  2. Remove the HDD from the master PC, set it firstly boot from LAN (or network, PXE rom, or some similar settings) in BIOS settings so that it will start network boot to diskless boot Windows XP.(Figure 13).

  3. The first time you diskless boot Windows XP on the master PC, you can modify its computer name (Figure 14).

    Set the computer name as you wish then press enter key to boot it (Figure 15).

  4. On CCBoot server, "Options" -> "Settings" -> "Default Client Settings" -> "Disk Group" -> press the ">>" button, select "XP01.vmdk" as the default boot image in "System Image Selection" section.
  5. Do the same as Step 2 and Step 3 for other client PCs with the same specifications as the master PC to diskless boot Windows XP for them.

[GOOGLE EARTH] Cara Menentukan Jarak Tinggi Rendah Suatu Area di Google Earth

Google Earth Pro adalah bola dunia 3D yang interaktif dan dapat digunakan untuk membantu perencanaan, analisis, dan pengambilan keputusan. Bisnis, pemerintah, dan pengguna profesional di seluruh dunia menggunakan visualisasi data, perencanaan lokasi, dan alat berbagi informasi Google Earth Pro.

Untuk mengetahui jarak tinggi rendah area menggunakan Google Earth berikut langkah-langkahnya:

1. Untuk pertama tama sebelum melakukan aksi ini kita memerlukan sebuah aplikasi yang disebut google earth. jika di komputer anda sudah terinstall maka selanjutnya kita buka aplikasi tersebut.

2. Seperti tampak pada gambar diatas aplikasi google earth. aplikasi ini memiliki beberapa fitur misalnya 3d building yang fungsinya untuk menampilkan bangunan dalam bentuk 3 dimensi. road untuk menampilkan jalan dll.
Langkah selanjutnya adalah menandai sebuah wilayah misalnya rumah atau sekolah. untuk memberi tanda langkahnya yaitu cari dulu wilayah yang akan ditandai lewat searching. jika sudah ketemu langsung saja ke icon warna kuning berbentuk pin. klik icon itu untuk menandai wilayah.

3. Apabila sudah di klik tampilannya akan menjadi seperti dibawah ini. untuk daerah yang saya tandai adalah rumah saya. untuk memberi nama kita isikan pada kolom name denga nama daerah tersebut. sedangkan untuk mengganti gambar yang digunakan untuk menandai adalah icon kecil disamping kolom name klik icon itu. maka akan muncul banyak pilihan icon anda dapat memilih sesuai selera anda masing masing. jika sudah lalu OK

4. Langkah selanjutnya adalah memberi tanda disekolah atau daerah lain, kalau saya akan menandai sma di dekat rumah saya. caranya sama kita tinggal temukan sekolah tersebut dan tandai dengan tepat.

5. Jika sudah maka langkah selanjutnya adalah menggariskan kedua lokasi tersebut dengan ruller (klik icon kecil di bagian atas map yang bergambar penggaris ). jika sudah di klik akan muncul kotak dialog kecil disitu tertera jarak.

6. Kamudian klik tepat di lokasi pertama (rumah) supaya memudahkan untuk langsung menuju ke lokasi kedua kita langsung klik double saja pada kolom sebelah kiri bawah yang tela kita tandai lokasinya tadi.

7. Maka google earth akan langsung menuju lokais tersebut (SMA) lalu klik pula tepat di lokasi SMA tersebut. jika sudah maka akan tercipta sebuah garis kuning lurus yang menghubungkan rumah dengan sekolah. dan pada kotak dialog tadi tertuliskan jarak lurus ke sekolah. jika sudah klik save

8. Jika sudah maka akan muncul gambar seperti dibawah ini yang digunakan untuk memberi nama garis tersebut. jika sudah diberi nama langsung saj aklik OK

9. Jika sudah di klik ok maka akan tercipta garis warna merah. untuk mengetahui tinggi rendahnya daerah yang di lewati garis kita hanya perlu klik kanan pada garis merah tersebut kemudia pilih "show elevations profile"

10.Maka pada bagian bawah map akan muncul grafik yang menyatakan tinggi rendahnya daerah tersebut.

[GOOGLE EARTH] Mengukur jarak suatu tempat dengan Google Earth

Ternyata ada fitur pada Google Earth yang sangat berguna buat kita-kita, misalkan bila kita ditanya oleh seseorang berapa sih jarak dari rumah ke kantor.

Tentunya dengan aplikasi Google earth kita dapat mengetahui jarak yang sesungguhnya. Daripada kita menjawab pertanyaan tersebut dengan menebak saja, lebih baik kita mengunakan aplikasi ini.

Misalkan rumah saya berada di daerah Cakung (Jakarta Timur) dan kantor saya adalah di Sekretariat Negara (Jakarta Pusat) kira-kira berapa ya jarak antara rumah saya dengan kantor ?

1. Buka aplikasi Google earth

Bila belum memiliki aplikasi ini silahkan download di :
http://earth.google.com/download-earth.html

2. Masukkan keyword Indonesia pada Side Bar Search lalu tekan tombol enter

3. Setelah menampilkan peta wilayah Indonesia lalu ketikkan lagi keyword jakarta, karena lokasi rumah dan kantor saya berada di Jakarta.

4.Selanjutnya mari kita mencari rumah saya, caranya ketikkan keyword “Cakung”
Hasil pencarian menampilkan peta satelit di wilayah Kecamatan Cakung, terlihat seperti gambar diatas ada berbagai macam place mark.

Misalkan rumah saya terletak di samping Kantor Pos Cakung Barat. Kita tinggal mengklik dua kali place mark cakung Barat Kantor Pos. Perbesar foto satelit dengan cara mengklik dua kali di atas Kantor Pos Cakung Barat tadi yang telah kita pilih, hingga kita dapat melihat dengan jelas rumah yang kita inginkan.

5. tandai rumah saya ini dengan place mark, bentuknya seperti jarum di kumpulan toolbar.

6. Berikutnya mencari dimana kantor saya, mudah saja ketikkan kata kunci monas, atau harmoni karena kantor saya berada di sekitar tersebut. Lalu tandai lokasi yang telah didapat dengan place mark.

7. Inilah langkah yang paling penting yaitu mengukur jarak, caranya pilih ruler dalam jajaran toolbar

Pilih pengukuran dalam satuan yang diinginkan dari mulai smoot hingga centimeter, untuk tutorial ini saya menggunakan kilometer. Klik saja lokasi awal pengukuran yaitu Sekretariat Negara, hasilnya seperti gambar berikut :

8. lalu kembali ke Places Side Bar, pilih rumah saya untuk melihat view rumah saya yang telah diberi place mark, kemudian klik place mark rumah saya. Seperti gambar di bawah kita sudah dapat melihat hasil pengukuran yaitu 12,46 km.

Tutorial Cara Setting Mikrotik RB751U-2HnD Menggunakan Modem USB Smartfren - Sebenarnya pada artikel sebelumnya sudah pernah dibahas tentang Tutorial Share Koneksi Internet Modem USB dengan Mikrotik dengan modem Sierra dan kartu GSM 3. Nah, kali ini kita akan bahas hal yang sama menggunakan Modem Huawei dan kartu Smartfren. Sebelum kita mulai, sebaiknya anda baca dulu tutorial ini Tutorial Share Koneksi Internet Modem USB dengan Mikrotik.

Belajar mikrotik untuk mengkoneksikan modem smartfren dengan Mikrotik RB751U-2HnD. Sebelumnya silakan cek apakah Modem Smartfren anda sudah support dan dikenali oleh Mikrotik. Cek disini ya.

1. Tancapkan modem Smartfren nya ke port USB Mikrotik, kemudian buka Winbox.

2. Cek apakah USB Modem sudah terhubung dan dikenali oleh Mikrotik nya, buka menu System --> Resource --> USB

3. Jika nama modem tidak muncul di daftar USB mungkin modem nya belum tertancap sempurna atau modem belum dikenali oleh Mikrotik.

4. Masuk ke menu Interface, akan muncul interface ppp-out1 secara otomatis.

5. Buka setingan interface itu, anda bisa memberi nama interface nya misalkan SmartFren dan klik opsi Advanced Mode untuk membuka setingan advanced lainnya.

6. Yang perlu diperhatikan pada tab General yaitu Port nya, pastikan port yang digunakan sesuai dengan port modem nya (usb1).

7. Masuk ke Tab PPP, isikan opsi berikut :

   Phone     --> #777
   Dial Command --> ATDT
   User     --> smart
   Password     --> smart

8. Klik Apply, lihat status dari koneksi PPP itu di pojok kanan bawah. Pastikan status nya connected yang berarti modem sudah konek.

9. Setelah modem berhasil konek, maka secara otomatis interface PPP dengan nama SmartFren itu akan mendapatkan IP Address Dynamic

10. Jangan lupa membuat rule NAT Masquerade untuk interface PPP dengan nama SmartFren tadi.

11. Set juga DNS Server nya

12. Coba ping dari terminal Mikrotik nya misal ping ke google.com. Kalo berhasil berarti sudah bisa dipakai untuk browsing.

13. Sekarang terserah anda mau share koneksi internet nya via kabel LAN atau Wireless. Jangan lupa set IP address interface yang mau digunakan ya.

[MIKROTIK] Cara Upgrade Mikrotik RB750

RouterOS adalah sistem inti yang menjalankan Mikrotik, dan seiring dengan berjalannya waktu RouterOS juga terus dikembangkan versinya. Agar kondisi Mikrotik anda bekerja dengan stabil dan optimal, maka sangat direkomendasikan untuk mengupgrade RouterOS ke versi terbaru. Berikut ini saya jabarkan cara melakukan upgrade RouterOS pada Mikrotik seri RB750 menjadi versi terbaru dengan cara yang mudah.Download Link RouterOS :

Silakan download upgrade package untuk mipsbe.

RouterOS seri mipsbe dapat digunakan pada RB400 series, RB700 series, RB900 series, RB2011 series, SXT, OmniTik, Groove, dan METAL.

Syarat pertama untuk melakukan upgrade RouterOS pada Mikrotik RB750 adalah anda harus login menggunakan akses admin. Jika anda menggunakan akses user biasa (read atau write saja) maka proses upgrade tidak akan dapat dilakukan.

Sebelum anda melakukan upgrade Mikrotik RB750, pastikan keadaan listrik benar-benar stabil (kalau perlu gunakan UPS) dan RB750 tidak sedang diakses oleh siapa pun. Hal ini untuk memastikan stabilitas box RB750 saat kita melakukan upgrade.

Langkah pertama adalah download combined package RouterOS dari link diatas ke komputer anda.
Langkah kedua, silakan mengakses RB750 yang anda gunakan menggunakan akses admin lewat winbox.
Kemudian klik opsi “Files”, dan drag-n-drop (tarik menggunakan mouse) file RouterOS yang anda download sebelumnya kedalam kolom “Files” pada winbox. Hasilnya akan terlihat seperti pada screenshot berikut ini (klik pada gambar untuk memperbesar) :

Setelah proses transfer file selesai, klik pada menu “System”, kemudian pilih “Reboot” untuk me-reboot routerboard.

WARNING! Setelah anda melakukan reboot, jangan klik apa pun! Proses upgrade routerboard akan berlangsung pada saat reboot berlangsung. Upgrade memakan waktu beberapa menit, dan pada saat proses upgrade berlangsung LED pada RB750 akan terlihat berkedip berulang-ulang. Tunggu sampai proses upgrade benar-benar selesai (LED tidak berkedip-kedip lagi).

Setelah proses upgrade selesai, silakan mengakses RB750 anda dengan menggunakan winbox. Jika proses upgrade selesai maka versi RouterOS yang baru akan terlihat pada titlebar winbox.
