Movie Teri Meri Kahaani: (Music Review)

2012-06-01T14:01:00.002-07:00

Film, ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’
Music Director, Sajid-Wajid
Lyricist, Prasoon Joshi
Singers, Wajid, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Shaan, Shreya Ghoshal, Sunidhi Chauhan, Mika Singh, Sonu Niigaam and Shabir Bro
Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapoor have reunited on screen for ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’ and Sajid-Wajid have provided a perfect musical base for their story by churning out a soundtrack that has a youthful fervour. It grows on you. And with Prasoon Joshi penning the lyrics, the album manages to capture the essence of three different periods on which the film is premised.
The album kicks off with ‘Mukhtasar’. Crooned by the Wajid himself, the song is a showstopper in its own right. A beautiful romantic number, it is very soothing and reminds you of the spring season when everything looks so cheerful. Coupled with catchy beats, the song has already topped the charts and will continue to rule the music scene for quite a long time.
It also has a remix version by DJ Suketu, which will surely be a hit at clubs and click with the lovebirds, thanks to its catchy beats and mushy feel.
Next one is titled ‘Alla jaane’ and is a characteristic Rahat Fateh Ali Khan song, which charms you with its poignant touch and Sufi elements. The song lets you relax and is a perfect number to listen to after a tiring day. Prasoon Joshi has struck the right note with the lyrics, which is well supported by convincing composition.
Next up is ‘Jabse mere dil ko uff’, which instantly makes you groove with its retro tone and is reminiscent of the musical style of yesteryears. The amazing vocal combination of Sonu Niigaam and Sunidhi Chauhan has enhanced the song’s tempo and it manages to lift your mood.
‘Humse pyaar kar le tu’ is an out and out dance number with a desi feel and Wajid has given flawless treatment to the song with his vocals. He has been well supported by Mika, Shabir Bro and Shreya Ghosal. Their voices blend with ease and the harmonium playing in the track transports you into a different era altogether.
This one too has a remix version with lot of techno beats but one prefers to stick with the original. It is not bad but could have been given a better treatment like the ‘Mukhtaar’ remix.
It is followed by ‘That’s all I really wanna do’, which brings you back into the present, thanks to modern puppy love feel to it. It has a potential to connect with youth and the composition also uses certain tones from ‘Mukhtasar’. The duet has Shaan and Shreya coming together and they manage to hold your attention.
All and all, the soundtrack manages achieve the goal – it captures the mood of three different periods. Sajid-Wajid, who have made a name mostly through peppy numbers, give us a mix of different musical styles, showing that they are versatile and can satisfy your musical appetite in more than one way.

2012-05-31T13:15:00.001-07:00

Azlan Shah Cup: India strike Pakistan to stay faint hope

2012-05-31T13:10:00.002-07:00

Ipoh (Malaysia), A spectacular goal by Sunil a minute from the hooter gave India a 2-1 victory over Pakistan and a faint hope of making the final of the Azlan Shah Gold Cup hockey tournament here Thursday.
India, who began losing to New Zealand 1-5, beat Korea 2-1, lost to Britain 2-3 and beat Malaysia 3-2 before losing to Argentina 2-3 to finish with nine points from six matches after Thursday's victory.
India owe their victory today as much to their skipper Bharat Chhetri who came up with a sterling performance in the goal, repeatedly thwarting his Pakistani attackers.
In the last league game, India utilised the limited opportunities they got whereas the Pakistanis, despite dominating play for long stretches, could only convert one of their seven penalty corners.
India went ahead in the 30th minute and half an hour later Pakistan skipper Sohail Abbas at last could beat skipper Bharat Chhetri in the goal to make it 1-1. And with the clock ticking away, Sunil went sprawling to sweep home the winner reaching a Sardar Singh long ball.
If India have to make the final, it will be by a long shot as the results of two of the three remaining games on the last day of the league phase Friday must produce results favourable for them. India have scored 12 goals but conceded 15 for a minus three goal difference.
India are now level at nine points with Argentina, who will have to lose their last match to Malaysia by a two-goal margin to keep them in the hunt. If Argentina win their last match they will make the final against New Zealand.
New Zealand are as good as through with 12 points from five matches and their last match Friday against Korea is an inconsequential game for both the teams. New Zealand struck 18 goals and conceded only eight while Korea have five points from five matches.
The other team that can upstage India will be Britain who, with eight points after their 1-1 draw with Korea Thursday, have a must-win match against Pakistan tomorrow. Britain will be through if they win and Argentina lose their match.

Akshay Kumar: bows out to avoid a conflict with Ajay, SRK

2012-05-25T02:51:00.002-07:00

In true Khiladi spirit, the actor postponed the release of his film to avoid clashing with his friends

In the Hindi cinema industry, it's not just the rivalries between stars that are exemplary. While many may believe that the A-list actors are always vying with each other for attention, Akshay Kumar is surely an exception. Mirror has learnt that Akki, in true Khiladi spirit, has decided to postpone the release of his film Khiladi 786 to avoid a clash with Ajay Devgn's Son Of Sardar and Shah Rukh Khan's Yash Chopra directed untitled venture this Diwali. The film will now release on December 7.

Now, Son Of Sardar is a title that is very close to Akshay's heart. Earlier, he had planned to make a film titled the same and had even registered it under his banner Hari Om Productions. But then Ajay announced his film. "Ajay met Akshay on the sets of Rowdy Rathore to request him to part with the title Son Of Sardar. Akshay readily agreed over a handshake. So when Ajay scheduled the release of his film for Diwali 2012, Akshay decided not to clash with it at the box office. Also, Akshay is rather busy promoting Rowdy Rathore at the moment following which Joker promotions will begin. He always gives enough time to each film promotion," revealed an insider.

"Ajay can't stop raving about Akshay's touching gesture of letting go of the title. In fact, it was also on his request that Akshay postponed the release of Khiladi 786," added the source.

It's known that big films releasing on the same day tend to eat into each other's business. And thus, giving these ventures space for a successful run is the wise thing to do. However, that's not the only reason Akki has decided to postpone the release of his film.

Recently, Akshay was spotted bonding with Shah Rukh Khan at a recent IPL match. And since SRK's big Yash Chopra film is all set to hit the theatres this Diwali, Akki's decision to postpone the release of his film has only been strengthened.

As for co-producer and music director Himesh Reshammiya, he has no reasons to complain. He is composing music for both the films - Khiladi 786 and SOS. The Akshay Kumar starrer will be directed by debutante Ashish R Mohan under HR Musik, Eros International Media Ltd and Hari Om Entertainment Co.

We tried to contact the makers of Khiladi 786 but they were unavailable for comment.
