Time to Use Computer Glasses!

For the past two years, my job has always required me to work in front of a computer. Yet I never used computer glasses while at it. I guess it's just because I'm either too lazy to buy one or I just keep forgetting it since I never considered it a priority. I know I should have but I feel like I really need to save up for a good pair of eyeglasses. Well I have normal vision but I feel that I still need computer glasses to reduce eye strain from hours of staring at the PC. And I believe it'll be beneficial in the long run.

TBH I've never given this much thought until I saw MakeupLove's Firmoo Giveaway. I thought it'd be a perfect opportunity to score myself some glasses for free! And even if I don't win the game, I'd probably still buy the glasses myself. But of course I'm still hoping to get picked heehee! :-) So Ms. Jes Roque, I hope to win your Firmoo giveaway! My First Bloggers United Bazaar Experience (and Why I Look Forward to Bloggers United 2!)

It was a Friday night and I came to Bloggers United Bazaar straight after work. For those of you who don’t know what it is, it’s like a sosyal version of an ukay-ukay minus the musty smell, plus entertainment, plus top fashion bloggers, plus a great selection of clothes and accessories. It’s just neat that I have been able to meet my favorite fashion bloggers in person and get to buy some of their pre-loved stuff too. Curious? I got to Malayan Plaza at around 7PM. The event started at around 9 or 10 in the morning, and I’ve heard some people took a day off just to get the first dibs at the items. But since I can’t afford to do the same thing, I settled for the remaining pieces during the evening (which is really sad). I paid an entrance fee of Php 100. When I got in, some of the fashion bloggers have already sold out their items earlier so they already left and I didn’t have the chance to see them. Nevertheless, the crowd was still pretty much alive as there were still a good number of bloggers selling and a lot of people coming in. On the background I saw sister duo Raleene and Rizza Cabrera giving a soulful rendition of Adele’s ‘Rolling in the Deep’. And boy I was blown away by their awesome performance!

I have bought a few pieces of clothes and accessories at affordable prices ranging from Php 50-250. I bought a mini skirt from Patricia Prieto, a bracelet from (I forgot her name), cropped pants from Tin Iglesias, a loose top from Raleene Cabrera, a summery mini halter dress from Dominique Tiu, and a pendant necklace from The Plump Pinay. I also got to meet the mom baker behind Sophie’s Mom. In fact, we had a really long conversation and I really appreciated her time and effort to entertain me. I also tried their mochi ice cream and red velvet cupcake and they’re both delish!

I wanted to buy more stuff that night but unfortunately, I had a small budget to work with. But now that Bloggers United 2 is nearing and I’ll be getting my 13th month pay soon, I will really make up for my frustration. This time I’m coming earlier! I plan to buy shoes, and cute long-sleeved tops, and more shoes! I’m also looking forward to see Lovechic, Camille Co, Kryz Uy, Divine Lee, Daryll and Andre Chang, and Nina Estacio! I was kinda hoping that the event would be held somewhere in Ortigas but anyway, it wouldn’t stop me from going!

With that, I hope to win one of the 20 tickets Melai of Style and Soul blog will be giving away. Hey, Php 100 is a big deal for the frugal me. Crossing my fingers!

Product Review: Veet Hair Removal Cream for Normal Skin

For all the girls (and gays) out there, are you one of those people who are blessed to have fine/unnoticeable body hair? Good for you then! You don’t have to shave regularly just to make your skin look smoother. Unfortunately, I’m not one of those “blessed” girls lol. But I don’t see it as a hindrance to feel good about myself. There are a lot of options to get rid of unwanted body hair: for permanent hair removal, you can opt for laser method, while for temporary, you can do shaving, plucking, waxing, threading, or using depilatory creams. Speaking of which, I’m going to share with you my secret to maintaining a hair-free, silky smooth skin.

As a teen, I shaved my arm and leg hair once but I never got the hang of it since I’m afraid to get nicks and unwanted cuts on my skin (as if childhood scars weren’t enough). I never tried waxing either since I don’t have the patience for it and I can’t stand the thought of ripping hair off my skin (though there’s cold wax now and they say it’s painless). And since I can’t pay for a decent permanent laser hair removal yet, my only option was to use depilatory creams. And so I tried Veet hair removal cream.

So far I’ve already tried two of the Veet variants: blue (for sensitive skin) and pink (for normal skin). I like their pink variant better because it removes hair faster and more effectively. One small pack costs around P150-ish at Watson’s and it’s good for one application.

How do I apply it?

I start off with one side of my thighs. I coat the area evenly and leave it on for EXACTLY 3-5 minutes. Then, using the rubber spatula, I gently scrape a small area of my skin to check if the hair easily comes off. When it does, that’s the time I scrape everything else off and put the residue on a lid cover before throwing it away. Then I wash the area immediately with only room temperature water to avoid irritation. Then I do the same for my other thigh, then my legs, and arms. I don’t put it all at once to avoid the product from drying and irritating my skin. Remember, timing is very important since the product is chemical-based. In fact, my sister once mistook the smell of Veet as muriatic acid lol! Despite its floral scent, you can still smell something like lye (the ingredient used in toilet bowl cleaners and relaxing creams) but good thing it disappears by the time you bathe.

Right after using Veet, try not to use soap esp. chemical-based ones as they may counteract with Veet’s chemicals. And avoid exposure to the sun since your skin is still sensitive by then. Just follow the instructions on the pack and you’re on your way to smooth and silky skin! Furthermore, I personally don’t recommend using Veet on my private areas like underarm and bikini line (for that I think you may use their cold wax strips but I’ve yet to try those) but if it works for you, then great. For first timers, I recommend using the blue variant first. And remember to do a patch test before anything else to check if you are allergic to the product.

What I like about Veet is that it keeps my body hair-free, smooth and silky for a month or so. It makes me feel more feminine and sexy! What I don’t like about it though is its smell and there’s hair left on some occasions but you can shave it off or just let it be (it’s not that noticeable anyway).

Raves on My Blogapalooza Loot

Having attended Blogapalooza at Fully Booked BHS, Taguig last September 17, I was one of the lucky bloggers who received those big loot bags after the event. And I’ll let you in on a secret: I already knew what’s inside the bag since I was one of those who packed the items lol. But I haven’t used most of them before so I’m gonna review them.
(BTW this isn’t my loot, it’s Azrael’s but I just copied this photo from him since we almost have the same items received anyway.)

Items I liked from my loot:

Oryspa Rice Bran Baby Powder in Lavender Scent – It smells like Angel’s Breath, if you’re familiar with the brand. I’ve heard that rice powder is a good absorber, great for people with oily skin like me. And it’s got less ingredients being organic. My only problem with it is that it feels a bit rough against the skin, especially on the face. It’s like getting a gentle microdermabrasion each time I apply it lol.
Oryspa Meditation Balm – This is a great alternative if you don’t want the lingering smell of al camphor (like Efficascent oil). It has an aromatherapeutic citrusy-minty scent which I like. It also comes in a very small jar so I can lug it on my bag.
Easy-Phamax Wheatgrass with Honey – I’ve been drinking wheatgrass even before I got to receive a sample of this great drink. I’ve no problems drinking it at all since honey neutralizes the grassy taste and it is surprisingly good even on the first try (for me at least). Best served cold. Actually, I’m about to drink one right now.
Farmer John’s Cheddar and Sour Cream – I love it’s tart, cheesy taste plus the chips have the right crisp to it. I wish they could have added more contents on their small packs kasi bitin lol
Wild Willy’s Real American Chicharon in Plain Salted – It’s just like your regular chicharon, except that its on a foil packaging which makes it fresher and crunchier.
Memo Wallet – Sleek and classy, it’s nice as a credit card and bills holder.
Regatta Polo shirt – I haven’t worn it yet but I like its material. You can tell it’s not one of those cheap polo shirts you can buy at tiangges. I could have swapped mine for another color though. Khaki doesn’t flatter me much; it’s like my second skin lol!
Human Nature Spray Sanitizer Citrus Burst – I like its citrusy scent on my skin and it’s non-drying. It’s organic too! Lesser ingredients=more skin love. I’ve set aside all my other antibac sprays for the meantime lol.
Forme Body Spray in Magnolia – It’s nice as a daily scent, something you can wear at home or office.
Tree Hugger Pens – The pens’ exterior is made out of recycled corn and carton. Anything eco-friendly is definitely a winner for me!
Sparkle Spa Giveaways and GC – Some samples I gave to mom, some I used (take note, they’re from an imported brand, Babor. For the GCs, I’m definitely gonna use them on a weekend (their spa is from Paranaque pa). I could use a massage!
Aquabest SHIFT HAPPENS Shirt – Nice fitting, cute statement at the front. But because there’s a brand logo at the back, I think I prefer to wear it at home X ).
360 Fitness GC – I’ll use it when I finally get inspired to drag my lazy *ss off, which is uncertain yet lol
Aesthetic Science Kojic Soap – Unlike other brands, this soap goes on smoothly on the skin and it rinses easily. I also found out that it isn’t as drying and irritating as other brands.
Lay Bare GC and Soothing Cream – I shave sometimes so it’s perfect for me. Waxing I haven’t tried yet but I think it'd be interesting since they use cold wax which is painless upon application.
Shopinas mouse pad – It’s great since we don’t have one for our laptop at home.
Lipton Yellow Label Tea – There are days when I’m a tea person so it’s good. ~~Just thought it’d better if it was green tea lol joking~~

Honey Goes to the First-Ever ‘Blogapalooza’ Event!

Last September 17, I attended the highly-anticipated Blogapalooza event at the Fully Booked Function Room, Bonifacio High Street, Taguig! It’s the first of its kind here in the Philippines where bloggers and businesses get to connect and network with each other. Sounds interesting, right? Wait till you get a glimpse of the day’s festivities!

Now how did I get to be part of this exclusive invitational event? I was fortunate enough to somehow lend my assistance to the organizing committee, namely Vince Golangco and Francis Simisim of Wheninmanila.com, and my friend Anna Lampa. I got to see everything from the planning to execution, and it proved to be challenging at times. But on the day of the event, I felt more like a blogger, taking pictures, listening at the presentations, and mingling with some of the bloggers and business representatives. For instance, I met Ninay Versoza of Healthy First (she’s a really sweet and soft-spoken girl), some of the girls at Polecats, pro photographer Shayla Sanchez of The Boudoir Dolls (she also writes for When In Manila), people manning the booths, and lots more. I also saw some of the bloggers I look up to in the flesh, like Anton Diaz of Our Awesome Planet and Azrael Coladilla of Azrael’s Merryland. They’re so cool and nice in person; they even gamely posed with me for a photo op!

Lunch was served prior to the start of the event. Italianni’s served something like a tuna pasta with tomato sauce (?), while the people at Healthy First gave out bite-sized servings of their sinaing na bangus, mini carrot cupcakes and bottled carrot-and-fruit juices. I personally loved the carrot-strawberry juice because it’s palate-friendly (not that all of them aren’t actually) and it contains real fruit bits. Aquabest provided bottled water for the event while Coca-Cola gave out Coke in cans.

Then off to the businesses’ presentations. Everyone was in high spirits as both bloggers and businesses had a good and lively interaction. Even with the fast-paced atmosphere, businesses managed to come up with creative presentations, and bloggers are gamely responding to the presenters. There’s never a room for dull moments.

There are breaks assigned after a certain number of presentations, otherwise known as ‘networking time’ Old friends got to see each other, new partnerships and acquaintances are formed, and connections are made. There were also breaks in between presentations for people to grab a quick snack and freshen up in time for the next batch of presenters. Easy-Phamax provided Wheatgrass shots and a free live blood testing analysis; meanwhile, Lipton served warm tea drinks. Size Matters handed everyone their very satisfying Sausage Burgers (a crowd favorite!)

Just when the bloggers’ energies are starting to dwindle from all the fun they had earlier, out comes a sexy pole dance presentation from one of the girls at Polecats! The dancer executed her moves smoothly and flawlessly that men (and women) can’t help but marvel. And the crowd was pumped up once again!

There were also raffles drawn during the course of the event. Lucky bloggers got to win a bunch of cool swag such as BlueWater Day Spa gift packs, rubber shoes from the Primer Group of Companies, bags from Jake Brothers/Tripologie, Human Nature gift packs, gift certificates from sponsors, and so much more!

All in all, the response was overwhelming! Businesses were really glad to have joined the event and reach out to around 130 bloggers present on the event, while bloggers got an exclusive first look and feel of the products launched/promoted by the businesses. With everything that’s happened, I can say Blogapalooza was a huge success. And as if the event itself wasn’t enough, the bloggers got to take home a big bag full of goodies from the generous sponsors!

I was happy to have attended Blogapalooza Part One. And I can’t wait for Blogapalooza 2: Online Christmas Gift Guide coming this November! I’m sure it’s also going to be a blast!

Different Looks with NYX Round and Soft Matte Lippies (PHOTOS)

The first time I saw the wide range of NYX products, it really got me curious because they have a good selection for a drugstore brand. NYX lippies have this enticing appeal because of their seemingly good pigmentation, but of course I need to hold on to something before I drop my moolah. Unfortunately I found it difficult to see good swatches of NYX online on a similar complexion as mine (I think I’m a cross between olive and yellow undertones). Good thing my shopaholic instincts didn’t fail me on choosing the right shades (except for the Black Label Black Cherry shade, I thought I was deceived!) So here you go, more realistic swatches for tan-skinned girls like us. Enjoy!

My NYX Haul (Yes, I am a NYX Addict!)

I’ve always loved putting on makeup since I was a kid and my aunties who’ve lived with us for a few years can attest to that. I used to borrow mom’s makeup. Back then wearing makeup makes me feel like a lady, so the 6-year-old me would lock the door to our room and put on different colors on my face. Then I’d strike a pose at a mirror, pretending I’m Madonna or whoever famous female celebrity I idolized that time. Ah, funny memories.

Now that I get to buy my own makeup, I didn’t really collect from the same brand before NYX. I guess I got interested with the wide range of color palette that NYX carries. Another factor that got me curious was that many are raving about it as the cheaper version of MAC. Well I can’t really compare the two as of now since I don’t own any MAC product yet, but all I know is that I got so hooked with NYX!

I bought my NYX haul from two online sellers: one’s Kiko’s Angels and the other’s GetSophisticated Online Shop. They are both nice and accommodating so I didn’t have any problems transacting with them.

So far I have 7 NYX Round Lipsticks (Paris, Heredes, Ulysses, Orion, Perfect, Thalia, Fig) , 2 NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams (Antwerp and Stockholm), 1 Single Powder Blush (Dusty Rose) and 5 NYX Girls Nail Polishes (Girly, Nude Truffle, My Sunshine, Inkheart and Blood). I also bought 1 NYX Round lipstick in Tea Rose and 1 NYX Black Label Lipstick in Black Cherry but I gave them to my Auntie and Grandma as parting gifts. I was hesitant to give Tea Rose at first since it looks good on me but for the Black Cherry, good riddance! It wasn’t what I expected it to be. I thought it was a rich, deep red but it turned out to be dark brown in real life! It was a risque, mature color and it wasn’t really my style so it was okay to give it away.

I scored really big discounts on these makeups hence it was easy for me to grow a collection. I bought round lipsticks ranging from P99-P145, blush for P280, soft matte for P245 each, and nail polishes from P60-P145*

What I like about NYX:

Round Lipsticks – They go on smoothly as long as you put lipbalm before or after applying lipstick or your lips aren’t dry in the first place. They also have good pigmentation but you still might want to use lipliner on the same shade since they easily come off.
Soft Matte – Almost everything about it! In fact, I’m so hooked to it! It has a weird scent that some describe as “fake” or buttercream but to me it’s addicting! I prefer soft matte more than round because they have longer staying power and they are more flattering on my plump lips. Application is like a dream; it goes on like a liquid but dries into powder matte.
Powder Blush – This is my current favorite blush since its slight hint of color and shimmer makes me look blooming without overdoing it. Looks great on both photographs and real life.
Girls Nail Polish – Wide range of colors and textures to choose from and smooth application.

What I DON’T like about NYX:

Round Lipsticks – They easily come off! Melts easily, and its soapy scent can be quite off-putting especially for first-time users
Soft Matte – Powdery texture may emphasize lines on the lips. Not recommended for those with flaky dry and chapped lips. Texture may not be as pigmented as regular matte lipsticks.
Powder Blush – Staying power I guess? Well it might be because I have oily skin. But it isn’t really a big deal as I’m satisfied with it nonetheless.
Girls Nail Polish – Easily comes off in as early as the first day of application, hence it makes me think if it’s really worth the money ( quite more expensive than regular local brands). Might be better to use it with a really good base coat and top coat.

Final Verdict: I’d still buy NYX products again. Why not? I think they’re great for everyday casual/office wear. I’m really eyeing on those soft matte lippies though. I might buy another one (or two) come payday. The nail polish? Hmmm…maybe if it goes on sale big time and if I prove that it will stay longer with a good topcoat.

*There aren’t really standard prices on these babies, at least on the Philippine online market. It just depends on the seller (or so I think) lol.

Product Review: Myra Vita White Face Lotion

All these years I didn’t really care much about the importance of moisturizing since I have an oily skin type. I’ve read in some magazines that people of my skin type can skip on moisturizer since our face produces more than enough natural oils anyway. Still, I was into face creams because I want to have a fairer face. But now that I’m 23, I’ve realized that I still need moisture to age gracefully. And sunblock! It’s a must here on our country. The UV rays are getting harsher and we NEED something to protect our skin from it. I surely don’t want to see the effects of photoaging and skin cancer like 20 years from now.

And so I’ve tried to use this popular brand of face cream for years. Yes, it made me look whiter (or rather chalky white when I put on too much) but then it wears off the moment I sweat. Worse, I think the formula makes my skin oilier. And I have to blend it properly or else, it would settle on some parts of my face. I remember a time when I put the face cream right before I go to school. If I haven’t reached for a mirror early on, I might not have noticed that my eyebrows were white! Que horror!

And then I tried this new brand of face cream and I was more satisfied with it as compared to my previous one. However, I felt like I’m still open to try a better option.

That’s when Myra Vita White Whitening Face Lotion came into the picture. The first time I tried it, I felt like there’s nothing special about it. But eventually I tried it again because I learned that my favorite blogger Helga uses it. And I’m glad I did.

I use Myra Vita White as my day/night face lotion. I like the fact that it’s not sticky at all and it blends well on my face. I also love its light, fragrant scent. And it doesn’t irritate my skin. It also complements whatever skin care regime I have. I think its SPF (15) is just right for me since I have a tan complexion and I’m not usually outdoors anyway.

And best part is, it fits my budget perfectly! It costs around Php16-21 in local drugstores and beauty counters. I usually buy it in sachet since I don’t need to lug it on my bag. Once or twice-a-day application is enough for me. I use it right after I cleanse and tone at night, and after I take a bath at day (skipping toner). It makes for easier makeup application. It also prevents my skin from feeling tight and dry from aircon (sometimes it can be like that at work).

I don’t really notice much if it makes my face fairer but what I know is that it makes my skin healthier. It protects my skin and it makes it smooth, moisturized and glowing. It doesn’t make me break out and it doesn’t make my face oilier. It balances my skin out from the dryness of toner and soaps. I love this product!

If you don’t like the stickiness of face creams, try switching to Myra Vitawhite Face Lotion. With this, I believe my skin will stay youthful for a long time just like Iza Calzado’s.

How Do You Spot an Authentic Nyx Round Lipstick from a Fake One?

Just the other night, I posted an article called "How to Spot a Real NYX Lipstick from a Fake One". I admit it was a hasty thing I did, and I sincerely apologize to all of you. I made the post comparing two lipsticks I bought from different online sellers. I held firm on my words because the online seller of Lipstick A claims that her NYX products are 100% authentic. I believe her since when I purchase from her, I’m always satisfied with my loot. And then I received a comment that made an impact on me .

The commenter said that one of my descriptions on the fake nyx round lipstick happened to coincide with her own lippies. But the thing is she said she bought hers from a makeup artist and an online store. So she was asking me if the lipstick she bought was fake if my descriptions are to be considered. Honestly, she caught me off-guard on that. On second thought, what I deemed as fake might be the real deal after all. And so I borrowed my colleagues’ NYX round lipstick and placed it side-by-side with my NYX Lippie A and NYX Lippie B. Lo and behold, none of them are the same! My co-worker said though that hers was given by her aunt from US.

Now for all the NYX patrons out there, can you tell me about the qualities of an authentic NYX Lipstick? I honestly don’t know what to believe now. That’s why I pulled out my previous post in the first place. I don’t want to mislead my readers and I certainly don’t want to ruin seller-buyer relationships out there just because of unverified information. All I know is that truth must be told.

The Many Uses of V&M Naturals Emu Oil

Is oil bad for skin? Truth is, it depends. Our skin produces its natural oils that actually protect our skin from dryness and the harsh environment. But when the skin overproduces oil and dirt gets to mix with it, than when the skin pores clog and get irritated. So if that’s the case, why do we need to put more oil on our skin? It’s actually okay as long as you know the right oils to use. Take for instance V&M emu oil.It is an organic oil extracted from richly-fed emu birds from Australia. It is the fastest-absorbing oil on human skin and it has a lot of skin-and-tissue healing properties. It also contains vitamins A and E, oleic acid and other ingredients which are beneficial for the skin. And did you know that it is a secret ingredient used in some ointments and other beauty products? Really, what can’t this oil do?

I bought a bottle of emu oil because it was said to be a great complement to Pureglow Black African Soap. It helps soothe, calm, and moisturize my skin after using the soap. But since I want to maximize its use, I applied it on my hair for the first time this morning. Result? It gave my hair luster without the greasy feel. See the difference? My hair was more tamed and in place on the after pic. It didn’t do much on the detangling part yet but hey, not bad for starters. Just a note: 1-2 pumps of emu oil is enough to cover hair as long as mine. Adjust depending on hair length.

Aside from my hair, I use Emu Oil for my skin: I gently rub a drop of it on my underarms before putting on deo every morning, or at night together with V&M CPC+G “It” Treatment/Cleo Rub. I also use it as a facial and neck moisturizer and it’s not greasy at all! In fact, I think it even keeps oiliness at bay. It also helps remove skin blemishes. Furthermore, I use it on my inner thighs, buttocks, and feet! It helps lighten those parts and it heals dry, cracked heels. So if you’ll notice that I’ve got nicer feet nowadays, it’s because of emu oil!

You can use emu oil on just about any external part of your body. It’s that versatile. The scent may kinda turn you off at first but you’ll get used to it eventually. If you’re an economical user, a 30 ml bottle may last for 1-2 months.

Emu oil is good for any skin type. You can even use it on problem-prone skin since it has anti-bacterial properties. I also heard that it’s also good for treating skin irritations and minimizing wrinkles and fine lines. There are no approved therapeutic claims yet but the claims are based from personal experiences, as mentioned on the V&M Multiply site.

Product Review: Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Soft Azallea

It's been over a year since hot pink lips became the trend here in the Philippines, yet people can't seem to get over it. I thought this year the trend would shift to coral. Yes, I saw some who followed it but the pink craze is still pretty much on! I think it's because pink is a youthful, feminine and casual color. You can wear it while strolling on a mall, bonding with your girl friends, going on a date, or even at work. The possibilities are endless when wearing a pink lipcolor.

The typical Pinay may sometimes find pink intimidating since it mostly looks good on women with fair skintones. But actually, it's just a matter of finding the right shade of pink. Back then, I felt a little off wearing pink lipcolor because I thought it only emphasizes my nc42 "morena" complexion. But now, I wear pink with confidence and it actually makes me feel prettier.

I own two shades of pink lipstick right now; one's light strawberry pink and the other's hot pink. Speaking of the latter, I'll be doing a product review of Maybelline Color Sensational Moisture Extreme Lipstick in Soft Azallea (PC41). It currently retails at P299 but I bought it at Watson's at 20% off. At first, I was unsure if I can pull off a hot pink lip but I eventually adjusted to it. (I think my chinita features help me pull off the pink lip) I liked it even more when I found out that the color looks vibrant on photos. And it really is moisturizing, sometimes I skip off the lipbalm.

The only cons about it is that it emphasizes flaws on my skin the way red lipstick can. And it's sheer so I need to reapply more to get my desired shade. Fortunately, the brightness of the pink slightly conceals my pigmented lips. I also noticed that the color easily wipes out but leaves a rosy tint that lasts for a few more hours. Sometimes the tint stays on your lips even after brushing teeth. In that case, you can swipe it off with a cotton pad and Maybelline make-up remover or any oil-based makeup remover.

I recommend this lipstick for women with ages 16-30. This is a good choice when your lips need a wash of color for casual days. This color suits fair to light medium skintones. If you have oily or problem-prone skin, I think you should skip this lipcolor. This lipstick is best worn with confidence and a great smile.

Product Review: V&M Naturals Modern Geisha Soap

Each of us has our own preferences when it comes to bath soap. Some settle for the simple germicidal soap. Some prefer whitening soaps containing natural or chemical-based ingredients. Some like moisturizing soaps. Some go for scented soaps, organic, milk-based and the list goes on. I, on the other hand, can't seem to settle for just one category. I've tried a lot of soaps and I've said countless times that I'll stick to it, only to find myself switching to another brand kahit 'di pa ubos ang sabon ko.

Then I tried V&M Naturals Modern Geisha. V&M described it as their gentler and more affordable version of the Pureglow Black African Soap. At first, it looked like an ordinary licorice/glycerin soap. I only realized the difference upon using it. It doesn't lather much the way ordinary soap does so you have to be a little more patient with it.It also has a mild fragrance, almost unscented. It smells 'clean', that's the only way I can describe it. I'm okay with that because the other products included in my daily regimen are scented anyway. And it has this special shape where the curved part makes for an easier grip, while the exposed part has this bumps that gently massage my body while I rub it on. Unfortunately, the bumps slowly fade as the soap melts but that's expected.

I leave the lather on for about 3-5 minutes before rinsing it off. After bathing, my skin has this squeaky-clean astringent feel, a little tight. (but not as tight as when I'm using a chemical-based soap) But it isn't really a problem as long as I put lotion afterwards. On the first use, my a few red spots appeared on my skin but it disappeared in a few hours. My skin has easily adjusted on the second use.

If you want to achieve lightening and gentle exfoliation, I recommend this soap. But I think this product isn't advisable for people with sensitive skin and pregnant women. I use it along with V&M Bare It All Cream and V&M CPC+G "It" Whitening Treatment and they all proved to be an effective whitening combo. In just a week, I have noticed a remarkable difference on my skin: my face got smoother and clearer, my whole body got fairer, and my dark spots seemed to disappear. I've also noticed that my bacne was almost gone! I've always been very conscious of showing my back because no matter how often I scrub it or what soap/cream I apply to it, the pimples just won't go away. Little did I know that my problem for years will only be solved by soap and cream. And that really is a life-changing experience for me.

Before, I used to drag myself to take a bath lol. But ever since I tried Modern Geisha and the other V&M products, bathing has become an enjoyable experience and something to look forward to. For all the "goats" out there, try V&M because it will CHANGE you lol. I can't say whether it'll be my staple soap because I want to experiment with the other V&M Soaps and Bath Products first (Lulur, CPC+G and Seaweed Slimming Soap in particular). But I can say it's worth buying for all over again.

Product Review: V&M Naturals Bare It All Cream

I've always been fond of whitening stuff. Typical modern-day Pinay huh. Before, it was my ugly-duckling phase that led me to try different kinds of over-the-counter whitening creams. I admit I got a little obsessed with the "mestiza mentality" because I envied how some girls have that flawless, creamy white skin that I wished I was born with. But now that I've come to embrace my tan complexion, I just want my skin to be healthy,even-toned, radiant, and youthful-looking. I don't aim for drastic whitening anymore just like what Bale did to hers. No offense meant; I respect her personal choice. I still want people to recognize me for skin that I was born with, only better this time.

Along with my realization, my beauty philosophies have changed over the years. Before, I thought that my skin problems can only be solved by using those popular brands that I see in commercials. That was before I came to know of V&M Naturals through a popular online beauty forum. Viewing their Multiply site, I've learned that V&M is the first brand to introduce authentic emu oil-based organic skin care products here in the Philippines and they've been on the business for already three years. I've seen a lot of positive reviews about their products so I thought I'd give it a try.

The first product I bought from V&M was the CPC+G "It" Whitening Treatment and it turned me into an instant V&M convert! The second time around I purchased three products, one of which was the Bare It All Cream. V&M described that this cream helps whiten and smoothen the roughest and darkest areas of the body. Also, it has two variants: Mentholated Mango Mandarin Dash and Pure Mango Mandarin Dash. I chose the latter because I think I don't need something minty for the cold season.

BIA comes in a tub so I have to make sure that my fingers clean before dipping on it. Before using it, I mixed 4 pumps of CPC+G treatment to add a whitening kick (it should be 2-3 pumps only but I broke the rule sorry teehee). I use it twice a day, after bathing. I apply it on certain body parts which need a little more TLC: my neck, nape, elbows, underarms (night only), back, tummy, buttocks, inner thighs, knees, and feet. Then I top it off with my non-V&M body lotion (I'm trying to finish it up before I switch to a V&M lotion. Sayang din kasi eh lol). I love BIA's fragrant mango smell and my skin didn't itch at all. And in only a matter of three applications, I began to notice its lightening effect. I noticed that the skin around the knees got lighter than my thighs. As for the moisturizing part, it may need a little more push but it's enough to heal dry spots like my cracked heels lol. I noticed that it also helped remove the chicken skin on my underarms. I guess have to wait till I finish the product to see optimal results.

It's been only a few days since I started using it but I'm close to emptying it! I guess that's how much I love it hehe.I can't wait to try the other V&M products but I'm pretty sure I'll be buying another jar of BIA once it runs out.

I was naturally born with thick, curly hair (it's in the genes). Growing up, I've got no problems with it. It only started to bother me when I was in Grade 6, the time that I realized my hair was so unruly and frizzy I could make a bird's nest out of it. So at a very young age of 13, I had my virgin hair relaxed for the first time. Since then, I've subjected my hair to frequent chemical treatments which tamed my hair but damaged it nonetheless. So I'm very particular with finding a shampoo that would support my hair needs. In searching for the right shampoo, I've come across these products and I've noticed how they helped me to achieve what I specifically want for my hair.

It's quite pricey though, but if you're not ready to shell out your bucks for the first try, you may want to try their product out in sachets first (yes, they have 'em!). Elastine is available in Shopwise. I'm not sure if there are other supermarkets/drugstores that are selling the product.

My Trusty Deo

For years I've been searching for the perfect deodorant. I've tried almost every whitening and non-whitening deo I see on TV commercials and direct-seller brochures and most of the time, I get satisfied with the product at first but I end up disappointed of their negative results like when my UA gets irritated or when it gets darker.

Apart from deo, I tried other methods to make my UA whiter. I've used scrubs, peeling creams, powders, tawas, soaps, creams, but they weren't as effective as I thought they were. I regret to have wasted the money my parents gave me on those products.

But after many years of trial and error, I've finally learned what works for me. Through time, I've learned that underarm is one of the sensitive parts of the skin and it should be given more care, meaning, no harsh chemicals, no abrasive scrubs, and no strong fragrances. Fortunately I have found a product that meets all those requirements and that is Dove.

What I like about Dove deo is that it doesn't make my UA itchy and it actually keeps me dry for quite sometime (considering that my work doesn't require me to move around too much and sweat like a pig). I prefer the Dove original variant because it has a mild scent. (Unscented just won't do because I like my underarms to smell a bit powdery fresh). I normally buy it in stick form since I don't want to waste my time drying my UA before going out and I don't want to wipe off excess liquid when I feel like I applied it too much.

Another thing I like about Dove deo is that it's got a quarter of moisturizing cream that makes my UA soft and smooth. I also love the fact that it supports shaving by helping promote skin regeneration for my underarms and it complements the UA cream that I currently use at night.

Sometimes, I get swayed by trying out new products out on the market but I often find myself going back to Dove. Likea few weeks back, I've bought this powder fresh scent deo from a leading brand and I used it together with a depilatory cream at the same time (thinking that it produces better results than shaving). The result: my underarms got burned by the chemicals and my UA got back to its dark state before I used Dove. Obviously, I regret it! I'll never use depilatory cream on my underarms again.

So now, I just shave my UA at least every two weeks (following the direction of hair growth, not too close to skin to avoid abrasion, and not too much because I don't want to completely strip out the outer layer of my UA lol). I try to restore the natural color of my UA by using Dove deo by day and gently exfoliating my UA with Garnier Milky toner (every other day would be fine too) and Godiva licorice whitening cream at night.I also stopped scratching or scrubbing my underarms like a madman but I wash it thoroughly with mild soap and I make sure there's no soap/deo residue left on my UA. I take 5 to 6 swipes of deo for each underarm and I spread it out evenly (a Honey beauty secret) before I get dressed up. Now my UA color's slowly getting lighter and I'm loving it! I guess I'll be sticking to Dove deo for a long time.
