Amrita denies daughter Sara signing a film

2012-08-20T04:49:00.003-07:00

Amrita Singh is livid with an item in Mumbai Mirror that said her teenage daughter Sara Khan had signed her first film with Yash Chopra's production house. "The news is incorrect," said Amrita adding, "For heaven's sake, please leave my children alone."

The actress continued, "I'm the one doing a film with that production house. Not my daughter. There hasn't been any talk about something like this. Sara is in high school. After she finishes her school, she intends to go overseas to study law. If she decides to join films, it may be four years hence. As of now, she has not signed any movie and I seriously think it is ridiculous to speculate about her career when she has yet to finish her studies."

Amrita also denied ever changing her path because Kareena Kapoor was in the same studio as her recently.

Said she, "There are around 50 make-up rooms spread over some two floors and umpteen artistes are shooting at any given point of time. Some journalist did call to ask me if I was aware of Kareena's presence in the studio around the time I was there, and I just told her that I have been around for 30 years and I'm not sort who would duck in such situations. I spoke the truth. It may make for great copy for you guys to speculate on our personal lives. But there has to be some truth to a situation for you to start reporting."

People say Eid and I have become synonymous: Salman

2012-08-20T04:48:00.000-07:00

Eid celebrations have remained unchanged in the last 30 years at Salim Khan's residence Galaxy Apartments. The festive spirit, the warmth, the hustle-bustle of family and friends, food being served en masse... it's all the same.

Step in to visit the Khans on Eid and the aroma of the biryani and sheer kurma are a feast for the senses. And there's usually a lot of laughter and merriment because of the sheer numbers of the people present.

The head of the family, Salim saab, didn't believe in rituals then, he doesn't believe in them now. This 'Khan'daan, which has Hindu, Christian and Muslim members, is the epitome of an Indian secular family where caste and creed are of no consequence. Says Salim, "You know I have never believed in any ritual. So on Eid, there is nothing special happening at home. Yes, my wife Salma gets some traditional items cooked; the children and the grandchildren come here and friends drop in."

Arbaaz repeats what his dad says. Says he, "My earliest memories of Eid are not any different from what happens in our home today. It has always been a special day because the family gets together and eats lunch. We are joined by friends. Our home has always been an open house and, frankly, it is like that 365 days a year. But on Eid, the dishes on the lunch menu change."

Of course, a regular visitor to Galaxy Apartments cannot but notice that since 2009, whenSalman Khan started to become a phenomenon, things have changed. For one, the security around the building has been beefed up because droves of people come in from all over India to catch a glimpse of their idol on this special day. "Bas bhai ka ek nazara chahiye", you will hear fans chorus. And when Salman appears on his balcony in a T-shirt and jeans, the crowds feel they have received their 'eidi'.

For Salman, however, Eid will be a low-key affair this year. "My good friend Riteish Deshmukh lost his dad Vilasraoji," he says," adding, "I will therefore not be celebrating." He admits, though, that his way of giving 'eidi' to his fans is by giving them a new film each year on the festive occasion.

"I'm an entertainer. And my fans want nothing more than for me to give them a good film each year on this day," he says.

"When Wanted came on Eid in 2009, one didn't do it by design. However, after that, my producers started planning special Eid releases for me. And now, people say Eid and I have become synonymous. But honestly, mere ghar mein Eid, Ganpati, Christmas sab kuch manate hain. So to try and segregate one festival from the other is not my style," he signs off.

No Sequel To ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, Says Kabir Khan

2012-08-20T04:43:00.003-07:00

The proposed sequel to Ek Tha Tiger won’t happen. Apparently Salman is not too kicked by sequels as rule. He was offered the sequel to Judwaa which he declined. The long-in-the-pipeline sequel to No Entry may happen soon. But as a source close to Salman says, that’s a different case altogether since Salman had merely a guest appearance in the first No Entry. He now has a full-fledged role in the sequel.

That apart, has anyone seen Salman stepping anywhere close to a sequel?

That would have changed, provided Salman and Kabir Khan has gone ahead with plans of carrying the Tiger’s tale forward. According to sources, Kabir Khan had already sounded Salman out on the sequel issue, and had even put forward a plot idea. The plan, says our source, was to take Tiger through another film irrespective of the degree of success allocated to the first film.

But now we hear that Salman’s aversion to sequels and remakes has come in the way.

Says our source, “Salman abhors repetition and Yashraj too has not done a sequel. There is a strong chance of Aditya Chopra’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi coming back in a sequel because the curiosity to know what happens to the married couple Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma after they sort out their aloof relationship, has gripped everyone at Yashraj. But they’ve decided not to take Ek Tha Tiger forward.”

Says Kabir Khan, “Tiger is not going to return. There’s nothing left to say about him.”

Vivek Oberoi to become a father

2012-08-19T03:21:00.001-07:00

Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi and wifePriyanka are all set to welcome the newest member of the family. It is reported that Priyanka is two months pregnant and the baby is due in February next year.

What is interesting though, is that, the good news was revealed to the world a few days ago by Raj Kundra, who posted on a social networking website, saying 'Congratulating my dear friend @vivek_oberoi and his wife Priyanka on the good news and welcoming them to parenthood soon!'

We got in touch with Priyanka's mother Nandini Alva who confirmed the news. A visibly beaming and happy Nandini said, "Yes it is true that Priyanka is expecting," and added, "We are very happy." However, she refrained from making any further comments when we asked about the parents-to-be. Hope the new born will bring more zing and luck to the Oberoi household.

Ameesha goes more steamy, racy and hotter!

2012-08-19T03:09:00.000-07:00

Will don a glam avatar for her film with Sunny Deol 'Bhaiyaaji Superhit'

After working back-to-back to complete her films, appearances and brand endorsements, Ameesha Patel is all set to go even more steamy, racy and hotter in the Sunny Deol-starrer Bhaiyaaji Superhit, directed by Neeraj Pathak. Ameesha will be wearing a bikini in the film in which she essays the role of a diva.
The actress recently completed the final schedule of Abbas Mustan's Race 2 that also has her in a sexy avatar.
Meanwhile, along with her business partner Kuunal Goomer, she has been busy with the music of their upcoming home production, Desi Magic. They are happy with the way Lalit Pandit has been working with so much passion to create some fantastic music.
Post Munni Badnam in Dabangg, Lalit has been working on various kinds of songs for Desi Magic. The film will also have an item song as well.
Says a source, `Ameesha is loving her role in the film. She is very excited that in all her upcoming five films that release in 2013 her roles are distinct in every film, whether it's Race 2 to Neil Nitin Mukesh's film to Bhaiyaji Superhit or to her own home production, Desi Magic.`
Regarding all the buzz and speculation that goes around about her Ameesha says, `I'd rather focus on my work and let my work speak. Everyone is doing their jobs in life and everyone has a way of going about things their own way. If a small percentage of people say anything, one shouldn't get affected in life.`

She adds, `I'm happy my fans are looking forward to seeing me on screen after a while and that's what matters to me. As of now the only way I want to move ahead is by focusing on my films and production house. I'm loving my life and it's a very exciting phase for me. I am looking forward to the things which are lined up for me ahead.`

Kapoors will always rule Bollywood: Kareena

2012-08-19T03:06:00.001-07:00

After several hiccups, it is finally Kareena Kapoor who is scorching the trailers of Madhur Bhandarkar's Heroine. Sreya Basu catches up with the actor in Mumbai where she called the film her destiny

Did you always want to be a heroine?
Yes...always. There's always been a dream as a child, I think ever since I was in my mother's stomach, that I will become a heroine when I grow up. That was my aspiration...I used to dance in front of bathroom mirrors, when in school I used to run to the bathrooms to look at myself and not really concentrating on my studies.

How it is like playing a heroine on screen as well?
My journey as a Bollywood heroine has been really fantastic. But it would not have been complete without Madhur Bhandarkar.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had to leave the film due to her pregnancy and it came your way. Do you regret being a second choice? I was destined to be a heroine and getting an opportunity to work in this film is also my destiny.

Which heroine inspired you the most as a child?
I always had walkman with me listening to Madhuri (Dixit) and Sridevi songs thinking one day I too will become a heroine like them.

Your item song Halkat Jawani in Heroine is being considered as a repetition of Sheila Ki Jawani from Tees Maar Khan. Do you think these comparisons are justified?
Not at all. Halkat Jawani is my song. There is no question of comparisons.

Heroine is also showing the fate of an actress like that of Vidya Balan's The Dirty Picture. So are you trying to fit into her shoes?
I don't think I need to fit into anybody's shoes; I am very comfortable in mine. Also I don't think anyone can fit into my size. Heroine is completely different to The Dirty Picture and it's unfair to draw comparisons again and again.

Can you find similarities with your character in Heroine with any of your contemporaries?
There are quite a few of them. But I don't think I should name them.

Heroine will clash at the box office with your cousin Ranbir Kapoor's Barfi. Is the competition tougher this time?
Kapoors will always rule (Bollywood). I hope Ranbir's film does well and am sure he also wishes that my film also works. Everyone's film should do good; ours should do better.

We know of legendary actresses who did not eventually had a very good life. How do you manage the pressure that comes with stardom?
I don't read the newspapers in the morning.

Being s superstar at the moment, do you fear that there might be a time in your life in future when you will not get any film?
I haven't really thought of that. But I know there might be a time like that. Whatever happens, I will be happy and content with my life. On second thoughts, I think I will be like Zohra Sehgal (veteran actor) and will work till I am 90. I am not going to give up my place to anyone.

There were reports that your marriage with Saif Ali Khan (actor-producer) has been postponed. True?
You should wait for Saif to make an official announcement. Right now, my only focus is Heroine.

Your wax statue is currently being displayed at Madame Tussauds Sydney as a part of The Bollywood World Tour (first travelling exhibition of the renowned wax museum). How do you feel?
It is the most humbling experience. It makes me feel really happy to think that my work will live forever with my statue. When Madame Tussauds authority first contacted my management and my manager told me they want my wax statue there, I could not believe it.

What was your first reaction when you saw your wax statue for the first time in October last year?
The statue is so much similar to me! It was the same eyes, jaws and even the skin texture!

Ranbir Kapoor caught smooching!

2012-08-17T03:07:00.001-07:00

A well-connected Delhi birdie who loves to flit around Bollywood stars chirps with this garma-garam khabar about Ranbir Kapoor

The actor who was in the capital recently to shoot for an ad was spotted by the birdie at a five-star hotel nightspot in the wee hours of the morning. As it was well past closing time and the place was dimly-lit, Ranbir had left his guard down.

Seeing the star, the birdie took flight towards the hero. But was stopped in the tracks when Ranbir began smooching a girl! Nooooo, it was no B-Town actress, but someone from Mumbai whose father is highly influential and well-known in business circles.

The girl's family is not associated with Bollywood at all. Keep guessing, folks. But remember Ranbir is single and so is the girl. But we really wonder where all this leaves a certain couple of actresses he has been linked to. Tee hee!

Movie Review :Ek Tha Tiger

2012-08-16T08:49:00.002-07:00

Cast: Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif

Producer: Aditya Chopra

Cinematography: Ravi K. Chandran

Director: Kabir Khan

Rating: ****

Salman Khan's movies are just like the gravity defying stunts. No matter what their limitations are they somehow work out in the end for everyone, except the critics who generally stare with mouths agape scarcely believing their prophecy going wrong one more time.

But with Kabir Khan's Ek Tha Tiger, Salman's critics finally get a rare moment of Indian cinema when they don't have to trash the biggest star in the town and yet enjoy his work. Perhaps, that's lovey-dovey Yash Raj magic - where everyone leaves happy.

The film starts with Tiger's introduction - a RAW agent, who successfully completes all assignments with clockwork precision. He is the envy of his contemporaries and the cynosure of his boss, Girish Karnad.

A challenging assignment takes him to Dublin, Ireland where a scientist is, suspected of selling missile technology secrets to Pakistan. Tiger gradually falls in love with the professor's caretaker Zoya (Katrina Kaif), who is studying at a dance academy.

However, there's a twist in the tale and Tiger gets separated from his ladylove because of the call of his duty. But the smart script by Kabir Khan ensures that the love birds meet again at Turkey. Meanwhile the interesting twists and turns keep the audience engrossed.

Despite being a serious spy setup, the film has a tongue-in-cheek humour.

The fight sequences in the movie are breath-taking and for the first time after ages, one feels that Salman has given us more of a love story then mindless fight sequences, the credit for which goes to Kabir Khan as some scenes remind you of James Bond movies.

Add to all this, the perfect chemistry between the lead pair and you have a refreshing cocktail to savour. The songs of the movie are already a hit and the choreography is chic and not loud. However, Sallu does'nt deliver as a dancer but Kat more than makes for it.

The supporting cast has done a good job. Girish Karnad is his vintage best. Ranvir Shorey as Gopi is maturing into a quality actor.

Kabir Khan has lived up to his reputation and done a pretty good job. There are some directorial flaws which can't be overlooked, like Zoya bleeding in a mugging scene due to the sharp knife wound on the neck but the blood vanishes in thin air in the next scene. However, overall this movie would ensure that he remains occupied with prestigious projects and banners.

So if you are a Sallu fan or a Kat fan or you enjoy good quality cinema, you must watch this movie as it has everything a Bollywood fan would fish for. Even Kat has matured into a fine actor and Salman totally looks into his elements.

So if you are looking out for a fun outing during this long weekend, go pay a visit to this exquisite YRF 'Tiger' Safari.

Brangelina to marry 'next Saturday'

2012-08-13T02:36:00.000-07:00

Preparations for a huge party at the French home of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie had sparked speculation that they were secretly preparing to marry this weekend.

But despite the furore, Mickael Latz, mayor of the nearby village of Correns, has now claimed that 'more likely' the wedding will take place next Saturday.
"It's a far more likely date. There are no plans for a civil wedding in Correns this weekend," the Daily Mail quoted him as telling Sunday Express.
Pitt and Jolie's engagement was revealed back in April, after seven years and six children together.
Visitors had claimed that they had seen deliveries of food and champagne, a marquee being erected and the 48-year-old actor's parents arriving at the 35 million pounds Chateau Miraval - sparking speculation that they were planning to tie the knot in secret.
"Brad flew in to oversee preparations but they're all here now," the Sun quoted a source as saying.
"They say it's for Jane and Bill, but some think this could be it. Even Angelina's private jeweller is here," the source said.
Guests' list apparently includes George Clooney, who is currently a short flight away at his home on Lake Como, Italy, and jewellery designer Robert Procop, who created Jolie's 250,000 dollars diamond and platinum engagement ring.
"There's a real buzz around the estate," the source said.
It is believed that the couple will wed in a private chapel in the grounds of their home, with civil ceremonies in France only allowed in town halls.
"We don't know anything about it," Patrick Mareschi, deputy culture secretary of the nearby village of Correns, said.
"Under French law couples have to get married at the town hall. Unlike with a religious wedding, there's no way a couple can hold a civil ceremony at their own home," he added.

Its time for Siddharth to the rescue

The young industrialist joins an NGO in aid of underprivileged children of the country

In the past, several industrialists in India have found ways to give back to the society. It looks like Siddharth Mallya too has decided to extend a helping hand in the aid of underprivileged children from around the country.

Sidhartha has lent his name to an NGO called Magic Bus to be their good will ambassador. Our source said, `Sid takes his responsibility as a mature citizen of the country very seriously.

During the IPL, he explained the special initiatives undertaken by the team this year including joining hands with WWF-India as the face of Bangalore for Earth hour 2012.`

The source further added, `As part of his role as the ambassador, Sid also visited one of the children's centres of Magic Bus in Mumbai to spend time with the children and understand them before embarking upon his journey with them.

He has even offered to host workshops and maybe a special event with them sometime during the course of his association this year.` The NGO works with children and youth living in poverty, in the areas of education, health, gender and livelihood.

No mood to celebrate her birthday :Jacqueline

2012-08-13T02:08:00.002-07:00

Jacqueline Fernandez is in no mood to celebrate her birthday today. Instead, she is busy with her film commitments

It appears that more and more Bollywood actors are opting to give important family occasions a miss in order to fulfill their professional commitments. Buzz is that Jacqueline Fernandez, who celebrates her birthday today, will be busy shooting for her upcoming thriller.

A friend of the actress says, `Jacqueline has been working round-the-clock and even on her birthday she has no respite. She has to keep shooting for her film for a few more days.

The actress has been filming high-voltage action scenes that leave her drained of all her energy by the end of the day. In fact, thanks to her schedule, she will also be unable to attend the Independence Day parade organised by the US-based Indians in New York.`

Apparently, another reason why Jackie could be giving her birthday celebrations a miss is because of the ill-health of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.

The actress' alleged flame Sajid Khan is said to be very close to Deshmukh's son Riteish. Naturally, Jacqueline could be in favour of going slow on her celebrations.
