Sweet & Edible Easter Decor

Two years ago I had opportunity to meet one of my blogging colleague,

dearest Sandra of Ko to tamo blog.

She bakes amazing stuff!

Prije dvije godine sam dobila priliku upoznati kolegicu blogericu,

najdražu Sandru sa Ko to tamo bloga.

Ona peče čuda!

She have suprised me with her hand-made cookies.

She even cut out my name!

Iznenadila me je sa svojim ručno rađenim keksićima,

čak je izrezala i moje ime!

We have spent one great aftenoon together

and made many plans to see each other again.

When I got home, I hid these cookies in a pantry -

I actually don't know why -

but, later on, was glad I did that!

Provele smo jedno popodne zajedno

i isplanirale buduće susrete.

Kad sam došla kući, sakrila sam keksiće -

ne znam zašto -

ali mi je poslije bilo drago radi toga!

Two days later,

I hurt my back really bad and I was forced to stay in bed

with great pain for days.

Dva dana poslije,

toliko sam ozlijedila leđa da sam morala danima ležati u krevetu

uz velike bolove.

It all happend just before Easter.

Needless to say, I didn't prepare much by then becouse I thought I had plenty of time

for baking, cooking and decorating our home.

Sve se to dogodilo neposredno prije Uskrsa.

Naravno, do tada nisam baš puno pripremila za blagdan,

mislila sam da imam dovoljno vremena za kuhanje, pečenje kolača i dekoriranje kuće.

So, when pain medicine kicked in,

I managed to decorate Easter eggs.

My daugher boiled the eggs and I decided to leave them as they are.

I wrapped them up with thread-like lace,

handstitched the ends.

I, kad su tablete protiv bolova počele djelovati,

nekako sam uspjela ukrasiti uskršnja jaja.

Moja kćer je skuhala jaja, a ja sam ih odlučila ostaviti takvim kakva jesu.

Omotala sam ih čipkom od malo debljeg konca

(kupljeno u Kik-u), ručno zašila krajeve.

Beside my plate and eggs,

I have used everything else from Sandra's cookie box,

even the grass! ;)

Osim mog tanjura i jaja,

iskoristila sve sve ostalo iz Sandrine kutije sa keksićima,

čak i travu! ;)

Sandra's cookies looks great,

but they taste amazing, too!

Sandrini keksići izgledaju odlično,

a okus im je još bolji!

I was so glad I hid these cookies few days earlier.

And I was extra glad to have a friend like her.

She didn't know it then, but she definitly saved my day!

Bilo mi je drago da sam sakrila ove kolačiće par dana prije.

I bilo mi je posebno drago što imam takvu prijateljicu.

Ona to onda nije znala, ali mi je definitivno spasila dan!

Kao i obično, Advent me svake godine iznova iznenadi.

Čini mi se da svake godine dolazi sve ranije i ranije.

Ovaj vjenčić sam napravila tek danas,

doslovno pet do dvanaest ;)

Hello, there!

As usual, Advent time seems to surprise me over and over again.

It looks like it arrives earlier every year.

I have made this wreath/corolla today,

literally in the last minute before Sunday dinner :)

Ideju za ukrašavanje osušenim narančama sam imala već neko vrijeme,

čak sam i naranče osušila prije par dana

(naranče izrezati na ploške,

posložiti na pleh na papir za pečenje,

staviti u pećnicu zagrijanu na 100°C

i peći/sušiti 4 sata),

ali sam vjenčić je bio gotov netom prije ručka.

I got this idea of decorating for a while now,

I had even dried the oranges couple of days ago

(slice the oranges,

lay on baking paper,

insert in preheated oven at 100 °C,

bake/dry for 4 hours),

but the wreath itself was made just today.

Koristila sam se borovicom (smrikom) sa bobicama, borom,

kaduljom, uz koju grančicu hrasta crnike sa žirovima

(i još neko zelenilo kojem ne znam ime).

Za dekor, osim naranči i cimeta, zalijepila sam nekoliko badema

i malih borovih češera koje sam izbjeljivala prije par godina - link.

I used common juniper with berries, pine,

sage, couple of oak branches with acorns

(and some greenery I don't know name of).

As decor, beside oranges and cinnamon, I glued few almonds

and little pine scones I had bleached couple of years ago - link.

Napraviti zelenu bazu za vjenčić nije teško,

Making greenery base for wreath is not hard at all,

Ne znam za vas, drage napravi-sama-cure,

ali ja sam hodajuća katastrofa

kad mi se u rukama nađu istovremeno i čavli i čekić.

Nije mi problem zabiti čavao u zid, nego je problem u količini rupa u zidu

koje nastaju od pustih pokušaja da slika bude na pravoj poziciji.

I kako sakriti te rupe IZA slike?

(Da muž ne vidi :)

I don't know about you, dear DIY girls,

but I am a walking disaster

when some nails and a hammer happen to be in my hands at the same time.

I don't have a problem with nailing, the real problem is an amount of holes on the wall

that magically appear when I try to find a right position for a frame.

And how to hide all those holes BEHIND the frame?

(So my husband can' see what happend :)

Nakon malo mozganja, odlučila sam napraviti shemu koju ću staviti na zid

i pomoću koje ću točno označiti gdje ću zabiti čavle.

Dakle, trebala sam točno znati ŠTO i GDJE želim objesiti na zid.

Odlučila sam tri okvira i set od četiri komada gipsanih morskih zvijezda i školjki

objesiti iznad kreveta u gostinjskim sobama.

Izmjerila sam željenu duljinu gdje ću smjestiti okvire u odnosu na krevet.

Izrezala sam dva papira u željenim dimenzijama.

(Mogu se koristiti bilo kakvi papiri, novinski, ostaci od printanja...)

After a little bit of brainstorming, I have decided to make a scheme to place on the wall

so I can trace nailing positions exactly.

So, I needed to figure out WHAT and WHERE I want to hang on.

I had my mind set on three frames and a set of four plaster seastars and shells

to hand above a double bed in guests' room.

I have measured the lenght of the hanging area in relation to bed.

I have cut two pieces of paper in desired dimensions.

(You can use any kind of paper you want; newspapers, printing papers...)

Na prvi papir sam razmjestila okvire i gipsane dekoracije.

I have arranged frames and plaster decor on the first piece of paper.

Sve sam okrenula naopačke, licem prema dolje.

I have turned everything over, face-down.

Drugi papir sam položila preko svega.

I have layed second piece of paper on top of everything.

Napipala sam kvačice za vješanje na okvirima

i olovkom označila poziciju na papiru.

Jednostavna točkica je dovoljna.

Papir presavinite na pola i označite sredinu, sa malom strelicom, npr.

I have felt the hangers with my fingertips

and marked the position on the paper with pencil.

Simple dot is good enough.

Fold the paper in half and mark the exact middle, with small arrow, for exaple.

Prislonite papir na zid i zaljepite sa selotejpom.

Poravnajte papir koristeći vodenu vagu i strelicu na sredini papira.

Kad je papir savršeno ravan,

pronađite točkice, pritisnite ih olovkom da se prekopiraju na zid.

Kad se makne papir,

na zidu će ostati točne pozicije za rupice.

Navalite!

Place the paper on the wall and secure it with some tape.
Align the paper on the wall using (spirit) level
and the little arrow on the middle of the paper.
When the paper is align perfectly,
find the dots and trace them on the wall using pencil.
When you remove the paper,
you will see exact position for nailing.
Go for it!

Savršeno poravnani okviri, po meni.

Perfectly aligned frames, by my standards.

Naravno, ovaj trik sa papirom se ne treba koristiti samo kad želite ravne linije.

Može dobro poslužiti i kad želite aranžirati veći broj okvira različitih oblika i veličina.

Of course, you don't have to use this trick for aligning only.

It is usable when you need to arrange quite a bit of frames in different shape and sizes.

Meni je svakako uštedio dosta vremena i živaca,
a da ne spominjem da od onda nemam niti jednu rupicu viška po zidovima
koju moram sakrivati kako znam i umijem ;)

This trick had saved me some time and nerves,
not to mention that I no longer have any extra holes on the walls
that need to be hidden somehow ;)

Pravo je vrijeme da se počne razmišljati o adventskom vjenčiću;

bojama, veličini i obliku svijeća, potrebnim ukrasima.

First Advent Sunday is only two weeks away!

It's the right time to start thinking of Advent Decor;

colors, size and shape of Advent candles, decoration needed.

Adventski je vijenac krug ili prsten od zimzelenog granja s četiri svijeće. Postavlja se na stol u vrijeme došašća kao simbol iščekivanja Božića. Svake nedjelje u došašću pali se po jedna svijeća.

Advent wreath is a circle or ring of evergreen branches with four candles. It is set on the table at the time of Advent as a symbol of anticipation of Christmas. Every Sunday in Advent one more candle is being lit.

Zašto ove godine ne bi napravili sami adventski vjenčić?

Why wouldn't you make Advent Decor yourself this year?

This is what you need:

Za izradu vjenčića najradije koristim slamnati vijenac jer je on obavijen najlonskom uzicom (kao onom za pecanje), što ima svoje velike prednosti.

Potrebni su još i podlošci za svijeće.

I use straw form when making Advent Decor because it is wrapped with nylon string,

which has some great advantages.

You will need some candles holders, as well.

Slijedeći korak je pravljenje vjenčića.

Za to je potrebno razno zelenilo;

borovina, čempres, smrika (borovica), hrast,

magunja (planika), kadulja...

svega što se može naći.

Prvo sam napunila unutrašnjost slamnatog vjenčića

i to borovim grančicama.

Svaku grančicu sam ugurala ispod flaksa (pela) i tako u krug.

Next step is adding evergreen to straw base

You can use anything you can get:

pine, juniper, oak, strawberry tree, even sage....

I inserted the inner part of the straw wreath first

using pine brenches

pushing it under the string (fishing nylon, to be exact).

Nema veze ako malo robusno izgleda,

to je tek prva faza :)

Doesn't matter if it looks untidy,

this is just a first phase :)

Zatim se popunjava vanjski dio kruga

opet grančica za grančicom.

Then you fill the outer part of the wreath,

brench by brench.

Ako neka grana nezgodno strši,

može se poslije i podrezati.

If any little brench is sticking out,

you can trim it later on.

Vijenac se nastavlja puniti sa različitim zelenilom.

Najzadnje se puni gornji do vijenca.

Taj dio najljepše izgleda ako se naizmjenice koriste dvije različite vrste,

npr. smrika sa bobicama i nešto lisnatije.

Contuinue adding diverse greenery to the wreath.

You will finish the top part last.

You can achive the best look if you add two different sort of greenery,

for example, juniper with little berries and some leafy sort.

Kad je zeleni vjenčić gotov,

odrede se mjesta za podloške za svijeće,

namjeste se svijeće i dodaju se ukrasi po želji.

When the green wreath is done,

place the candle holders,

then the candles and other decoration .

Za ovaj vjenčić sam koristila šiške/češere koje sam izbjeljivala

(više o tome pročitajte OVDJE),

zaljepila sam ih pištoljem.

Iako mi izbjeljeni češeri nisu poprimili boju kojoj sam se nadala,

ova nijansa se odlično uklopila sa jutom.

I decided to use pine cones that I have bleached

(read more about it HERE),

glued it with glue gun.

Although my bleached pine cones didn't turn as I was hoping for,

this shade worked just perfect with burlap.

Koja bobica tu i tamo,

koja šiškica,

raznoliko zelenilo...

Some berries here and there,

some pine cones,

different shades of green...

Koristila sam konopac umjesto mašni i vrlo jednostavne svijeće,

izbjeljene šiške, bobice.

I have used rope instead of saten bows, very simple candles,

bleached pine cones and natural berries.

Ovo je bio vjenčić za našu studenticu,

njoj poznati mirisi doma.

This Advent Corolla was meant for our girl at University,

familiar scents to remind her of home.

prije par godina sam unijela dašak mora i u adventski vjenčić.

Since I live at the sea and I expecially love coastal decor in our home,

I decided to provide a marine touch to Advent Decor couple of years ago.

I had some beige rope,

a smaller version of those used at ships :)

I have used satin bows that time. I have tied them around the candles so my Advent Decor got its elegant look.

Over the years I have created many costumes for my children.

Some of them were inspired by animal kingdom.

I loved making each one of these costumes,

and now, when my kids grew older,

I watch photos with great feeling of nostalgia,

because they don't want to be

sweet bees

or beautiful spotted ladybugs

or little frogs

or fluffy sheeps

or cute ants

or most amazing penguins anymore :)

Easy Hydrangea Wreath / Jednostavan vjenčić od hortenzije

It is hard for me to believe it is middle of October, already!

We are having such a nice weather, sunny and warm,

doesn't fell like fall at all.

I have been reading a lot of fall themed posts on various blogs lately,

so I figured I should contribute, as well :)

Ne mogu vjerovati da je već sredina listopada!

Temperature su ugodne, dani su sunčani, ne osjećam jesen.

U zadnje vrijeme se po blogovima najviše piše o jeseni i jesenskim projektima,

tako da sam pomislila da bih i ja trebala pridonijeti tome :)

Living among evergreen trees, it is hard to spot fall. Really, it is!

Actually, I have noticed that fall is approaching when I realised that my beautiful hydrangea is loosing its color.

Živeći među zimzelenim drvećem, vrlo je teško uočiti dolazak jeseni. Stvarno, je!

U stvari, jesen sam počela osjećati tek kad sam vidjela da moja lijepa hortenzija gubi boju.

So, I have gathered all of my hydrangea blossoms,

found a wire in a garage

and started to make a wreath.

Odlučila sam odrezati cvatove hortenzije,

našla žicu u garaži i počela raditi vjenčić.

First I have decided where am I going to hang a wreath,

then how wide it is going to be,

and then I started to string one blossom after another.

As you can see at photo above, I cut the blossoms so it has small petal that holds small flowers together.

Prvo sam odredila gdje ću objesiti vjenčić,

zatim sam odredila koliki će vjenčić biti,

pa sam počela nizati cvatove jedan po jedan.

Kao što se vidi na gornjoj fotografiji, cvatove sam odrezala tako da ostane mala peteljka koja drži male cvjetiće skupa.

After a while, I got full, nice looking wreath.

Of course, not all blossoms are the same size.

First I used the biggest ones and tied the wire's ends together.

Then I inserted smaller blossoms where I noticed some blossom size irregularities.

I used florist wire to secure them to the wreath.

Nakon nekog vremena sam dobila lijep i pun vjenčić.

Naravno, nisu svi cvatovi iste veličine.

Najprije sam nizala najveće, zatim privezala krajeve žice jedan za drugi.

Manje sam cvatove umetnula u vjenčić na mjesta gdje sam uočila nejednakosti u veličini cvatova.

Učvrstila sam ih za vjenčić cvjećarskom žicom.

Next step was to hang the wreath on its place.

I think this pale shade of green suits well this stone wall.

I belive that this wreath will serve for a long period of time.

Another thing I schould to is to put some fall decor on.

I can't help it, I am stuck in everlasting summer :)

Vjenčić sam objesila na kameni zid.

Mislim da uživo još bolje izgleda,

blijedo zelena boja se odlično uklopila sa raznim nijansama boje kamena.

Mislim da bih uskoro trebala promijeniti dekor u jesenski.

Ne mogu si pomoći, zaglavila sam u ljetu koje nikako ne prolazi :)

Hello, everyone!

Is it just me or Halloween

(and all other holidays, to be true)

is comming faster and faster each year? :)

I was always a great fan of costumes and costume-making.

I live in Croatia where Halloween is not a traditional holiday.

We use to dress ourselves in various costumes during Karnival period

that is usually held in February

and ends with great celebrations the day before Ash Wednesday.

In a region where we live it is very important for costumes to be handmade,

otherwise they can not enter competition and win a prize.

In today's post I would like to summarize

some of my DIY costumes inspired by cartoon or movie characters.

Let's stat with my our favorite cartoon - NEMO:

My second pick are characters that can be considered as classic-

MICKEY AND MINNIE MOUSE!

There was 40 of us dressed like Mickey or Minnie,

the whole kindergarden, mothers, simblings.

THE SNOWHITE!

I looved this animated movie and books,

I looved all about her!

I didn't have Snowhite costume when I was a little,

so I made one for my daughter

just because I believe every girl should feel like a princess.

Very very simple costume of ALADDIN is next.

This costume is actually made for a school play,

but it can be used as Halloween or Karnival costume.

Another great group / family costume is THE WIZARD OF OZ.

This idea is proposed to me by my older daughter

since we were looking for a costumes for 4 people;

my girls, my son and myself.

I loved every minute of making it.

My younger daugher was Dorothy, she had a basket with Toto (stuffed toy) and a oiler for Tin Man. And red shoes, of course!

Older daugher was a Tin Man, She had a funnel on her head and an axe. She was pretty much amused all the time :)

Dino was a Cowardly Lion. He was sooo cute!

I got to be a Scarecrow, who else?

My costume was very simple, some old clothes, a hat and some straw.

Easy No-Sew Upholstery / Jednostavno tapeciranje bez šivanja

Ovo je priča o preobrazbi mog zelenog kreveta u sivi :)

This is a story about turning my green bed into grey :)

Prošle godine sam odlučila malo preurediti našu spavaću sobu.

Krevet neobične zelene boje mi se nije uklapao u planove,

a pošto je relativno nov, ima odličan madrac i spremište,

nije bio za otpis.

Krevet je bio presvučen mikrofibrom,

pa sam i za njegov novi izgled također potražila isti materijal.

Kupila sam sivu mikrofibru za bočne stranice,

te karirano sivo-bijeli materijal za uzglavlje.

Planirala sam to sve skupa iskombinirati sa crvenom i bijelom bojom.

Last year I have decided to freshen up our bedroom a bit.

I had upholstered bed in odd green color, that didn't fit my plans anymore.

But, since it is relatively new bed with great mattress and storage underneath,

it wasn't going to give it up.

The bed was covered in green microfiber,

so I have looked up for the same fabric to upholster it myself.

I have chosen grey microfiber for sides and grey-white gingham for the head board.

I have planned to combine it with dark red and white pillows.

Najprije sam oprala čitav krevet i pustila da se osuši.

Karirano platno sam nategla preko uzglavlja i zaklamala svakih par centimetara.

To je ustvari i jedini alat koji treba.

Dobro, još i škare, da se odreže višak materijala :)

I još jedan par ruku da pomogne držati materijal na mjestu.

Moja kćer i ja smo presvukle ovaj krevet u manje od sat vremena!

First of all, I washed entire bed with sponge and foam of mild detergent

and let it try

I have stretched the gingham fabric all over the headboard and stapled it every few centimeters.

Staple gun is actually the only tool you need.

OK, and some scissors to cut off the excess of fabric :)

And one more pair of hands to help you hold the fabric in place.

My teenage daughter and I have upholstered this bed in less then an hour, indeed!

Ostavila sam materijal ovako sa stražnje strane uzglavlja.

Ionako se ne vidi kad se krevet približi zidu!

I have left the fabric like this at the back side of the headboard.

It can't be seen when bed is facing the wall, anyway!

Krevet smo okrenule na bok da bi mogle materijal zaklamati i sa donje strane uzglavlja.

We have turned the bed sideways to staple the fabric under the headboard.

Što se bočnih stranica tiče,

a one su ustvari sanduk ispod madraca,

izmjerila sam dimenzije i izrezala toliko materijala da ga ima dosta i sa donje i sa gornje strane.

My bed has a great storage under the mattress.

I have covered those sides in plenty of fabric.

Materijal sam prebacila preko unutrašnjosti sanduka,

zaklamala.

Opet sam krevet preokrenula bočno, na jednu i drugu stranu,

da bih mogla zalamati i ispod kreveta.

I have laid the fabric over storage liberally

and stapled the fabric to the storage sides.

Then we have turned the bed sideways again

so I could staple the fabric that goes underneath the bed.

Presvukla sam sve tri strane sanduka, odnosno,

dvije bočne strane i podnožje kreveta.

Na gornjoj fotografiji se vidi kako sam rješila problem uglova kreveta bez šivanja materijala -

mikrofibru sa bočnih strana sam prevukla i preko uglova,

neporubljeni krajevi bočnih materijala se ne vide jer preko njih dolazi treći dio.

Taj treći dio, podnožje, je preklopljen sa krajnje lijeve i desne strane,

zategnut, zaklaman.

So, I have upholstered all three sides of the bed, not including the headboard;

left and right side and the bottom part, foothill.

You can see how I have solved the corners problem at the photo above - no sewing needed -

I have put on some fabric that covered both sides over the corners,

placed the third piece of fabric over the edges.

That third piece, fothill, is folded on the far left and right,

tighten, stapled.

Na taj način sam izbjegla šivanje i pojednostavnila postupak.

Mikrofibra je dosta nategnuta, ali ne previše jer je rastezljiva.

Nabori se daju lako izravnati i nisu previše uočljivi.

That's how I managed to avoid sewing and make this project easier.

Fabric is tighted enough, but not too much since microfiber is a little bit stretchy itself.

All wrinkles can be straighten up easily and are not very noticeable.

Ovo je dezen madraca. Pa....

This is mattress pattern. Oh, well...

Na dijelu sanduka koji se nalazi odmah do uzglavlja je jedino ostao originalni materijal,

zelena mikrofibra. Taj dio se uopće ne vidi kad se madrac spusti i kad se krevet napravi,

tako da nisam htjela trošiti vrijeme da se i taj dio presvuče.

Vidi se i da je sanduk sa uzglavljem povezan šarafom.

Nisam niti skidala te šarafe kod presvlačenja uzglavlja,

nego sam nategla materijal do šarafa, a od šarafa prema dolje prerezala materijal do kraja.

Donji dio materijala sam zaklamala ispod kreveta i sve je ispalo dobro, čvrsto, nategnuto i uredno.

Uzglavlje se da vrlo lako odšarafiti od sanduka,

ali je sam sebi zamislila da ću biti brzo gotova, pa se nisam upuštala u to.

Možda ubrzo promjenim dezen uzglavlja,

pa ću ga kompletno odvojiti od sanduka i propisno tapecirati :)

On this forth, upper part of the storage unit, I have left the original fabric, green microfiber.

You can not see that part once the mattress is on place and bed is made,

so I didn't want to waiste my time upholstering it.

You can see on the photo above that the headboard is connected with the storage with some screws.

I did not unscrew them on purpose,

I have tighten the fabric untill the screws, then cut the bottom part of the farbric from the screws down. I have stapled the bottom part of the fabric underneath bed and everything turned out just fine, fabric so tight and neat.

Of course, you can separate the headboard,

but I planned to be over with this soon enough,

so I didn't do that.

Anyway, I am thinking of changing the headboard again,

so I am going to make it properly next time :)

Taa-daaa!

Krevetac snimljen prošle godine, odmah po završetku presvlačenja.

My bed, photo taken last year, right after it has been upholstered.

A ove godine sam se odlučila za još jedan mali makeover,

umjesto crvenih detalja dodala sam modre i crne -

jastučiće morske zvijezde,

školske ploče na zidu,

modra navlaka za luster (tutorial OVDJE).

And this year I am going for another small makeover again,

I added some navy blue and black decor -

sea star pillows,

black chalk boards on the wall,

navy blue pendant cover (tutorial HERE).

Zavjese su sašivene od iste sive mikrofibre kojom je i presvučen krevet.

The drapes are made out of the same grey microfiber that I have used for upholstering my bed.

Mislim da će mi ovaj sivi krevet poslužiti kao dobra baza za različite stilove i boje uređenja spavaće sobe. Trenutno sam u modroj fazi, ali ubrzo se mogu vratiti na omiljenu crvenu boju ili pokušati sa žutom, narančastom... Potrebno je samo malo detalja u drugoj boji i soba je već drukčija.

I believe that this grey bed will suit my needs perfectly, expecially as a solid base to different styles and colors. I am in a navy blue phase right now, but I can easily switch to my favorite red or try other colors like yellow or orange... All I need is some details in other color and the room looks quite different.

DIY Slip-On Pendant Cover / Sjenilo za luster

Prije skoro tri godine smo renovirali naš Pansion.

Imali smo dosta starih lustera kojih nisam namjeravala baciti.

Barem ne sve djelove!

Almost three years ago we have decided to remodell our Pansion (B&B).

We had plenty of old pendants that I didn't want ot get rid off.

At least, not the all parts!

Zadržala sam metalni dio sjenila, osvježila ga novim slojem boje.

Odmah sam znala da ću napraviti nove lustere od njih.

Ovaj metalno sjenilo je šire sa donje strane

Saavršeenoo! Za moj naum :)

I kept this metal part of the fomer pendant shade, refreshed with new coat of paint.

I knew right away that I am going to use all of them.

It has a bottom part slightly wider then the top.

Peerfeect! For my idea :)

Nakon što sam izmjerila dimenzije sjenila,

izrezala sam platno odgovarajuće širine i duljine.

Naravno, platno je i šire i dulje od samog sjenila.

Sve što se treba napraviti je presavinuti rubove i prošiti ih.

After I took the measurements of the metal shade,

I cut the fabric accordingly.

Fabric width and lenght is bigger then metal shade itself, of course.

All ou have to do is fold the edges and machine sew it.

Odlučila sam se najprije za materijal na sitne plavo-bijele prugice,

namjerno sam htjela vodoravne pruge.

I decided upon these tiny blue-white stripes,

I deliberately choose horisontal stripes.

Umetnula sam lastik u ušitak ruba.

Koristite sgurnosnu iglu ili ukosnicu, što je pri ruci.

Insert the elastic band in the folded edge.

You can use safety pin, or hair pin, what comes handy.

I tako, vrlo jednostavno i brzo,

dobije se navlaka za sjenilo lustera

koja se može skidati po želji radi pranja.

And so, very simply and fast,

you get slip-on cover for pendant shade

that you can easily take off to wash.

Kao što sam rekla,

namjerno sam uzela vodoravne prugice jer sam znala da će se materijal naborati

i da će izgledati kao valovi.

Like I said earlier,

I choose horisontal stripes on purpose beacuse I knew it will look like waves.

Napraviti ovakvu navlaku je bilo vrlo jednostavno,

tko da sam ubrzo sašila još nekoliko, u drugim dezenima.

Making this slip-on cover was so easy,

I made several more in diffent pattern.

Kupila sam nove visilice sa grlom,

montirala stara sjenila sa novim navlakama

i svaka je soba dobila još više morskog ugođaja.

Ove lustere imamo i sobama ravnog plafona i u potkrovlju,

i svugdje lijepo pašu.

A najveći mogući plus ovim navlakama je da se lako skidaju i peru!

I got new electric cords,

installed old shades with new covers on

and each room got even more of nautical, summerly look.

We have these pendants in rooms with flat ceilings and in attic,

and they suit every room just fine.

And the best part is that these covers are comming down easily so they can be washed

when needed!

Easy DIY Striped Pillow / Prugasti jastučići

Ljeto je.

Inspiracije morem i plavom bojom mi na fali :)

Gušt mi je kad mogu napraviti nešto sama, brzo, a efektno.

Upravo takvi su ovi prugasti jastučići,

ili, kako bi mi rekli, "na rige" (pruge).

Summer time.

I've got pretty much inspiration with sea and color blue :)

I expecially love when I got a chance to make something by myself,

fast, but effective.

These striped pillows are just like that.

U zadnje vrijeme koristim dosta plave boje,

kuća mi je preplavljena mornarsko plavom bojom sa sitnim bijelim točkicama,

plavo-bijelim prugicama i modro-bijelim kareom.

Naravno, imam dosta ostataka materijala.

Sve te ostatke sam izrezala u trake,

u tri različite širine i zašila jednu traku za drugu nasumično.

I've been using a lot of blue lately,

I have navy blue fabric with small white dots,

blue and white stripes and navy and white gingham all over my house!

Of course, I have plenty of leftovers.

I cut those leftovers into stripes in three diferent width and sew them together randomly.

Kao i većina mojih jastučnica,

i ovu sam napravila na principu omotnice.

Like many other pillow cases that have made,

these ones are envelopes, too.

Gornji i donji dio se preklapaju.

Upper and lower part are overlaping.

Upotrijebite pribadače da se pričvrsti donja i gornja strana,

prošije se mašinski.

Use pins to secure both top and bottom of the future pillowcase,

sew with mashine.

Dobit ćete jedinstvene prugaste jastučnice

koje će dati morski štih sobi.

You'll get unique striped pillow cases

that will provide summer feeling to the room.

Ove jastučnice sam napravila posebno za jednu gostinjsku sobu.

I have made these pillow cases expecially for a guest room.

Svaka je različita i lijepo razbija bjelinu sobe.

Each one is different and it tones up the whites in the room.

Mislim da se dobro uklopilo sa ostatkom dekora u sobi

koji je također napravljen od istog materijala.

I believe it settled with the rest of the decor,

since it has been made of the same fabric, too.

DIY Nautical Style Banner / Girlanda u nautičkom stilu

Ovaj napravi-sama projektić je bio vrlo brzo gotov,

skoro pa u trenu!

Imala sam jedan prazan zid na koji je naslonjen krevet,

a nikako na njemu nisam "vidjela" neke slike ili fotografije

ili nešto treće.

Ideja o girlandi je došla spontano,

a boje/dezeni su oni koje sam već imala kući.

Now, this was a fast DIY project, almost in a blink!

I had one empy wall next to the day bed.

I couldn't visualise it with some photos or pictures

or something else hanging off.

Banner idea just popped.

Colors/designs are fabric that I had at home at the point.

Sve što treba je malo tkanina, različitih dezena

konop

škare

čavli, 3 kom

All you need is fabric, different patterns

twine or rope

scissors

hammer

nails, 3 pieces

Tkaninu izrežite u obliku trokuta,

presavinite jednu stranu i to zašijte mašinom.

Ostale rubove nisam prošivala.

Cut the fabric in triangular shape,

fold one side and machine sew it.

I left other sides unfinished.

Rasporedite trokutiće i nanižite na konopac.

Arrange your triangles and line them up with rope.

Ukosnica vrlo dobro dođe!

Hairpin comes very handy!

Rasporedite pozicije za 3 čavla,

zabijte ih i zavežite girlandu.

Arrange the three nails, hammer them to the wall,

tie the banner's end to them.

Oko srednjeg čavla omotajte konopac da se girlanda ne skliže.

Tie the rope around the middle nail, so the banner doesn't slide down.

Taaa-daaaa!

Ovo je trajalo nekoliko minuta,

ne računajući šivanje.

I was finish in matter of minutes,

not counting the time I've spend sewing pieces.

But, still!

Dobila sam ukras za zid koji mi se sviđa -

i tooooliko mi se sviđa da sam napravila još jednu girlandu

za drugu sobu!-

I've got a wall decor that I really like -

sooooo much that I have made another one for another room!-

Sad se bojim da će mi na svakom praznom zidu visiti koja girlanda :)

Now I am afraid that I will have banners on every single empty wall :)

Succulent Love

Succulent love, indeed!

A friend of mine adores succulents.

She advised me to plant some,

since my biggest issue with flowers is -

I forget to water them regulary :(

So, I asked my mom for some, my neightbour gave me some,

I bought some -

and I fell in love instantly.

I decided to introduce succulent as much possible

into our B&B's decor.

I placed some on the indoor,

and some on the shiny side of the window.

I had some really really really small pots.

You know those wholes on the center of wooden desks made for sun umbrellas?

Well, I have disguised them with succulents!

I also had a broken pot.

I was pretty much inspired with many fairy gardens I saw online this year.

I didn't have any fairy props, so I decided to leave it simple.

At least I got to use the broked pot!

Finally,

I had some leftovers.

Actually, I hadn't any more containers so I decided to plant them in plastic containers.

I used them to decorate the old barrel.

I put black containers in old cups.

Well, some don't quite fit :)

I have planted these succulents last month,

May 7th, actually.

It was the International Naked Gardening Day.

//// I had a blast with my FB friends that day ;) ///

I have showed you the photos taken at planting day and today, after month and half.

I notice that some succulents did warp in that period.

But, they are still beautiful.

And, most importantly, they won't die on me!

Baš volim bebe rođene u svibnju!

Cvijeće u punom cvatu, jagode, trešnje -

najljepši dio godine za proslavu rođendana!

I just loooove May babies!

Blossoms, strawberries, cherries -

the most beautiful time of the year for birthday celebrations!

Dobili smo još jednu curicu u obitelji!

Odmah sam znala što joj želim napraviti za dobrodošlicu.

Vidjela sam ružice napravljene od čarapica na internetu prije dosta vremena,

tako da sam jedva čekala priliku da napravim svoju verziju.

We've got another little girl in our family!

I have known what I want to make her as welcoming gift right away.

I have seen some sock roses at internet some time ago,

so I've hardly waited to make a version of my own.

Otišla sam u Kik,

tamo kupila 4 para dječjih čarapica, male cipelice,

ukrasnu traku, kanticu, bodić.

U cvjećarni sam kupila nekoliko grana šlajera / gipsofile i cvjećarske žice.

Cvjećarsku spužvu sam imala kući,

kao i zeleni papir za umatanje poklona.

I have purchased 4 pairs of baby socks,

baby shoes, decorative ribbon, a bucket, an onesie.

I have visited a flower shop and bought some gypsophila and florist wire.

I already had florist sponge and green wraping paper at home.

Napravila sam punjena slova, njeno ime, - link -

koja sam zašila na vrpcu da se mogu koristiti u dječjoj sobi,

kolicima ili krevetiću.

I have made stuffed personalized letters, her name, - link -

and sewed them to ribbon so it can be used in nursery.

Napraviti ružice od čarapica nije teško.

Čitala sam neke tutoriale,

ali meni nisu ispadale dovoljno lijepo,

pa sam proces krajnje pojednostavnila.

Making sock roses is not hard at all.

I did read sometutorials,

but I coldn't get my roses to look nice,

so I simplified the process completely.

Ispružiti čarapicu, zarolati je od prstiju i držati ravnu liniju do kraja čarape.

Gornji dio zamotuljka tako ostaje uredan, dok je donji nejednak.

Sada prebaciti otvor čarape preko donjeg dijela da bi se formirao cvijet.

Lay baby sock, roll it from the toes forward and keep straigh line to the end of the sock.

Top of the rool is quiet straight and tidy, bottom is uneven.

Turn the sock opening over bottom of the roll and form a flower of it.

Takvu formu treba osigurati da bude čvrsta.

Koristila sam krep traku.

Pomoću krep trake treba zalijepiti i cvjećarsku žicu za ružicu.

Izrezati malo zelenog papira, tek toliko da obujmi ružicu,

prilično labavo je omotati i osigurati sa prozirnim selotejpom.

Gornji dio zelenog papira presavinuti prema dolje,

oštre rubove zaobliti škarama.

This form needs to be secured, I have used crepe tape.

Also, use that tape to attach florist wire.

Cut some green wraping paper, just enough to fit the future rose,

wrap it loose and tape it with tranparent scotch tape.

Fold the upper part of green paper down,

trim the edges with scissors.

Slojeve čarapice isto malo presavinuti da više podsjećaju na latice.

Također se sredina može malo izvući,

da se dobije forma ruže.

Fold the sock layers, too, so it resembles of the roses petals more.

You can pull out the center petal, just a little bit,

and you will get a rose bud.

Sad je vrijeme da se kompletira buketić.

Vrpcu sam zavezala za kanticu.

Malo je sklizala, pa sam je pričvrstila sa selotepom.

Now it is time to arrange the bouquet.

I have tied up the ribbon to the bucket.

It was sliding down, so I have secured it with scotch tape.

Na dno kantice sam stavila bodić,

zatim cvjećarsku spužvu

(koju sam ostavila u najlonu jer je imam već gdinama i nisam znala hoće li se raspadati ili ne, s obzirom da je nisam namočila u vodu),

pa sam zabola ružice.

I have placed an onesie on the bottom of the bucket,

then florist sponge

(that I have left in original packaging because I had it for years and I couldn't tell if it is going to brake because I didn't water it),

then I started picking roses.

Cipelice sam također pričvrstila sa cvjećarskom žicom.

/ mama je pomagala/

I have attached florist wire to baby shoes, as well.

/my mum helped/

Zadnji korak je bio umetnuti šlajer.

The last step was to insert gypsophila.

Slatke slatke slatke male cipelice!

Cute cute cute baby shoes!

Stvarno mi se sviđa kako je ispalo,

taman sam taj buketić tako zamislila!

Samo mi je žao što nisam imala još vremena da malo ljepše aranžiram cvijeće.

Uvijek u žurbi....

I really like how it turned out,

just the way I have imagined it!

I just regret I did't have enough time to rearrange flowers a little bit prettier,

but I'm always in the hurry.

Always, always...

Kuhinjskih stvari. Krpe i ručnici.

"Daj da ponovimo kako se peče meso, a kako kolači,

tu ti je temperatura, tu svijetli dok se pećnica grije, pazi na staklo..."

"Ovoliko praška stavljaš za bijelu robu, tu ti je odjeljak za predpranje,

ovoliko omekšivaća, nemoj pretjerivati, tu uliješ, ovako namjestiš program pranja,

ne miješaj tamno i svjetlo..."

"Zapiši, kad ti kažem! Za svaki slučaj, eto zašto."

Tada sam se sjetila da maloj treba i pribor za šivanje,

u slučaju da joj se nešto raspara, ispadne botun i slično.

Njena nekadašnja kutija za užinu (marendu) je bila prigodan izbor -

nije više bila u prvotnoj funkciji i samo se prebacivala iz ladice u ladicu.

Then I have realized that she could use sewing kit, too,

in case she torns od ripps something, or buttons fell off.

Her previous lunch box was optimal choice -

it hadn't its original purpose any more and was relocating from one drawer to another.

Prikupila sam:

kutiju za marendu

šivaći komplet (igle, pribadače, konci u raznim bojama)

lastik

sigurnosne igle, gumbi

dva jastučića za igle i pribadače

pištolj za patrone

I have gathered:

lunch box

sewing kit (needles, pins, various treads)

elastic bands

safety pins, buttons

two pin cushions

glue gun

Jedan jastučić za igle sam napravila u dimenzijama odjeljka u kutiji,

a drugi u obliku slova "M", kao "Mia".

Iskrojila sam oblike, prevrnula materijal i ispunila vatelinom,

otvor zašila ručno.

One pin cushion was shaped according to lunch box's compartment,

and another in shape of letter "M", as "Mia".

I have tailored the fabrics, turned it over, stuffed it,

handstitched the openings.

Jastučiće sam zaljepila pištoljem;

četvrtasti u predviđeni odjeljak, a slovo M na vrh kutijice.

I have used glue gun to secure both of pin cushons;

square one in intended section, and stuffed letter M on the top of the box.

U poseban odjeljak sa smjestila lastik, konce, igle i pribadače.

Taj se dio posebno zatvara.

I have placed elastic bands, needles, threads, pins in diveded section that closes over.

Sigurnosne igle i rezervne botune (gumbe) sam stavila u male najlončiće da se ne rasipaju,

a u poseban odjeljak i škare.

Koliko ja kaaaaasnim sa ovim postom!

Našla sam prekrasnu malu ovčicu od filca na Carininom blogu prije 2 godine

i pomislila kako bi krasan jastučić to mogao biti za moju nećakinju i za kćer moje prijateljice koja voli ovčice.

Odmah sam kupila bijeli flanel i počela raditi na tome.

Ali, neki neplanirani događaji su odgodili završetak ovih jastučića sve do prošle godine.

I tek sad, nakon godinu dana, sam stigla srediti fotografije i napisati post.

Eh, bolje ikad, nego nikad...

This post is sooooo over due!

I have found this cute little felt sheep on Carina's blog two years ago and fell in love with it.

I have decided to make a pillow similar to her pattern.

I have thought it would made a great Easter present for my niece and for my friend's daughter.

I got some white flannel and I started working on it right away.

But, some unexpected occasions messed up my plan

so I got to finish this project a year later.

That was last year!

And I didn't come around to arrange my photos and write a post untill now.

Oh, well... better late then never...

Rukom sam nacrtala kroj na papiru i izrezala ga.

I have free hand sketched this pattern on the paper and cut it off.

Lice i uši sam skrojila od materijala boje kože, sašila,

preokrenula na pravu stranu i napunila vatelinom.

I have tailored the face and ears with skin toned fabric,

sew it, turned it over and stuffed with pillow stuffing.

Nožice su u dvije boje, također napunjene vatelinom.

Sheep feet are in two shades of brown, also stuffed.

Za ovaj jastučić je potrebno napraviti 2 jastuka i pripadajuće navlake.

Za potrebe jastuka, staviti dva sloja bijelog platna jedan na drugi, a na njih kroj tijela ovce.

Lagano iscrtati konture kroja olovkom.

Spojiti platno jedan za drugi pribadačama,

prošiti mašinom po označenim konturama i izrezati višak materijala.

For this sheep pillow it is necessary to make 2 pillow and 2 covers
For the purposes of the pillow, put two layers of white fabric on top of each other, and to lay paper pattern of sheep body on them, too.
Lightly draw the outlines of the pattern with a pencil.
Secure fabric to each other with pins,

machine sew on marked contours and cut off the excess fabric.

Ovo je jastuk koji ćemo poslije napuniti vatelinom.

Primjećujete da nije simetričan - tako sam ja htjela napraviti.

This is the future pillow-to-be.

You can notice that it isn't symmetrical - I wanted it to be so.

Ostavite mali otvor gdje će se puniti vatelinom,

preokrenite ga i napunite.

Leave a small openning for stuffing,

turn it over and stuff it.

Naravno, morat ćete napraviti i jedan manji jastučić za "kosu".

Kad ste ih napunili, zašijte otvor ručno.

Of course, you have to make a smaller pillow, too, sheep "hair".

When you stuff both of pillows, handstitch the openings.

Sad ćemo napraviti jastučnice!

Let's make pillow cases now!

Potrebna su dva komada flanela kojima ćete obraditi rubove i posložiti ih kao što je prikazano na fotografiji. To će biti donji dio jastučnice kroz koji će se umetati jastuk.

It requires two pieces of flannel, process the edges and arrange them as shown in the photograph. This will be the bottom of the pillowcase, you will insert the pillow through.

Stavite još jedan sloj flanela na prethodna dva,

prislonite kroj, iscrtajte konture olovkom, pričvrstite pribadačama.

Lay another layer of flannel to the previous two,
lay the paper pattern, draw the contours with a pencil, attach pins.

Kad radite jastučnicu za ovčju "kosu", slobodno odmah prošijte kroj.

Ako radite ovčje tijelo, potreban je još jedan korak.

If you are working on sheep "hair", machine sew it right away.

If you are working on sheep body, there is one more step to follow.

Ovčje nožice zašijte da vatelin ne ispada.

Sew sheep feet so stuffing doesn't come out.

U ovom momentu, tijelo ovce ima nacrtane konture, ali još nije prošiveno.

At this point, sheep body has its countures on flannel, but it is not sewn yet.

Insert sheep feet at the bottom part of pillow case, so they are placed mostly in the inside.

One part lays outside of the contours because there is a sewing line.

Prošijte po iscrtanim konturama, preokrenite i -

evo nožica!

Sew along the line, turn it over and -

there's sheep feet!

Na jastučnicu koja predstavlja tijelo namjestiti glavu i uši ovce,

prošijte mašinom. Nije važno ako ne izgleda baš jako uredno, ti se prošivi neće vidjeti.

Arrange the sheep head and ears on body pillow case,

machine sew it. It doesn't metter if the sewing lines are not very neat, they won't be seen later on.

Iznad glave se namjesti i jastučnica koja predstavlja kosu ovce,

isto se mašinski prošije koristeći onaj otvor sa zadnje strane.

Možete prošiti još jednu liniju iznad, tako da se vrh lica skroz sakrije.

Place the sheep hair over the top of sheep face and machine sew it

using the pillow case opening on the opposite side.

You can sew additional line above it, so you hide the top of the sheep face completely.

Sad je sve lijepo i uredno.

Everything is neat now.

Umetnite jastučiće u jastučnice,

dakle, i tijelo i kosu.

Insert pillows into pillow cases,

both body and hair.

Za oči sam koristila okrugle smeđe botune,

a za nos četvrtastog jer nisam mogla naći botunčić u obliku trokuta.

I have used round brown buttons for sheep eyes,

and square one for nose beacuse I couldn't find triangle one.

Ispod ovčje glavice sam sašila žutu mašnu i mali zvončić.

To je nešto što bi svaka ovčica trebala imati, zar ne? :)

Zvončić je, ustvari, božićni ornament sa bora.

Underneath sheep head I have handstitched yellow bow and little bell.

That's something that every little sheep sould be wearing, don't you think? :)

This bell is actually Christmas tree ornament.

I, evo je, gotova ovčica!

Kad se ovčica poželi oprati, potrebno je izvaditi dva jastučića iz nje, a ostalo ide u mašinu.

Dobro, možda bi se i zvono trebalo skinuti, ali nije ga problem ponovo zašiti.

And, here it is, little sheep is finished!

Once you want to wash the cover, you need to take out two little pillows

and the rest goes to the washing machine.

Okey, maybe you need to take off the bell, too, but it is not problem to stitch it back on.

Vrijeme je karnevala!

Još ima dosta vremena da se napravi neki novi kostim.

Možda neko malo žuto razroko pile?

Trebat će vam spužva 1 cm debela, pigment (za bojanje unutrašnjih zidova),

filc po izboru,malo vinila, lastik, špricaljku,

igla i konac, pištolj za plastiku.

It's Carnival time!

There is plenty of time to make a new costume.

One little yellow cockeyed chick, perhaps?

You will need foam 1 cm thick, pigment (for inner walls), felt,

some vynil, elastic band, sprey, needle and thread,

glue gun.

Spužva je izvrstan materijal jer se da lijepiti sa vrućim pištoljem,

u slučaju da pofali malo materijala,

kao što se meni dogodilo.

Za ovaj kostim nemam kroj, ali oblici su krajnje jednostavni.

Količina materijala ovisi o dimenzijama, naravno.

Radila sam kostim za odraslu osobu,

pa sam koristila 2 role spužve dimenzija 100x200x1 cm,

ali je bilo i dosta ostatka (za slijedeći put).

Foam is great material for costume making because you can glue it with glue gun

if you are running out of foam, like I was.

I don't have pattern for this costume,

but you will see that shapes are quite simple and easy to make.

The quantity of foam depends of dimensions needed.

I was making adult size costume,

so I used 2 rolles of 100x200x1 cm foam,

but I got plenty of leftovers (for next time).

Ako imate prilike, špricajte spužvu na otvorenom.

Svejedno zaštitite okolinu jer je pigment jaaako postojan.

Moji pofarbani kamenčići ispred kuće se nisu "odbojali" do ljeta :)

Pigment se nalazi u maloj bočici, pa tu bočicu koristimo kao mjeru.

1 bočica pigmenta i 2 bočice vode se stavi u špricaljku.

Vrlo je važno da špricaljka ravnomjerno raspršuje boju,

da ne kapa, podlijeva se i sl.

Zato ja skupljam šprice za raznih proizvoda za čišćenje

i probam koja mi je najbolja.

If you can, spray your foam at open.

Make sure to cover the ground because pigment is very steadfast.

My gravel didn't "discolorate" untill summer :)

Since pigment comes in little bottle/container, I use it as a measure.

Pour 1 bottle of pigment and 2 bottles of water into sprey.

It is very important that spray doesn't leak or dip,

but to evenly dispers color.

That's why I collect spray from various cleaning products.

so I can find the one that suites best.

Posprejana spužva se mora dobro osušiti.

Make sure that sprayed foam dries well.

Prednjicu i zadnjicu ručno zašijte.

Handstitch back and front.

Na donjem dijelu spužve izrežite po dva ušitka na prednjici i zadnjici,

te zašijte sa krive strane.

To će dati malo volumena tijelu.

At the bottom of the foam cut two placket on the front and back,
and suture/handstitch from the rear side.
This will give a little body volume.

Izrežite otvor gdje prolaze ruke u obliku kruga.

Cut a hole for arms.

Malo iznad otvora ručno zašijte krila.

Posebno dobro zašijte mjesta naglašena strelicom.

Handstitch the wings a little above the opening .
Make sure to suture firmly areas fhighlighted by arrows.

Vrijeme je za stopala i kljun.

Iskrojite ih, posprejajte narančastim pigmentom (1:2).

Dimenzije stopala izmjerite prema patikama (tenisicama);

od mjesta gdje se vežu špigete (vezice) pa do vrha prstiju i još malo dulje

idu ova 3 pileća prsta.

Duljina cipele od te točke pa do pete

odgovara svakoj bočnoj strani ove čudnovate obuće.

Uf, ne mogu bolje objasniti :)

It is time for the feet and beak.
Tailor them, spray with orange pigment (1: 2).

You can figure out dimensions according to your sport shoes.

From the point where you tie your shoelaces to the top of fingers and some more,

fit these 3 wierd chick fingers.

From that mentioned point and all the way to the heel,

fit both sides of this awesome footwear.

I can't explain better than this :)

Kad je spužva suha, ručno se zašiju krajevi.

Dobilo se nešto kao nazuvak :)

Sad je malo jasnije, zar ne?

Sa donje strane se ušije lastik koji će pileće stopalo držati na mjestu prilikom hodanja.

When foam gets dry, handstitch the both ends.

Now you got something that you can pull over your normal shoes.

It gets clearer now, right?

Handstitch elastic band at the bottom so your chick feet stay in place while walking.

Kod obuvanja, prvo se navuče pileće stopalo,

onda se obuju cipele, pa se namjesti lastik ispod đona.

Tako namješteno, pileće stopalo neće smetati prilikom hodanja.

About putting it on - first pull over your chick feet,

then put on your shoes and then you place the elastic band under the sole.

Set like this, your chick feet won't bother you while walking.

Iskrojite oči prema želji.

Moje pile ima oči različitih veličina.

Bijeli krug je od spužve, crno od vinila (samoljepljiva tapeta).

Vinil na spužvu zaljepite vrućim pištoljem jer će se inače odljepljivati.

Zaljepite oči na tijelo isto pištoljem.

Tailor chick's eyes as you like.

My chick has two different eyes.

White circles are out of foam, black are vynil.

Glue vynil to foam with glue gun, otherwise it will come off.

Glue eyes to the body with glue gun, also.

Kljun možete ručno zašiti ili zaljepiti pištoljem,

kako vam je lakše.

You can handstitch the beek or you can use a glue gun,

what you prefer best.

Neka kljun malo strši, da ne bude plosnat.

Let beek stick out, so it isn't flat.

Ako je pilić djevojka,

napravite frizuru od filca. Možda i koja mašnica :)

If your chick is a girl, make her a hairdo out of felt.

Some bow, perhaps :)

Ta frizura dobro dođe da se malo zakamuflira otvor kroz koji se gleda.

That hairdo comes handy to cover the hole to watch through.

Također, pilić treba mali pileći repić odostraga.

Od filca.

Also, your chick need cute little fluffy chick tail from behind.

Out of felt.

Malo po malo, korak po korak

i pilić je gotov.

Little by little, step by step

and chick is done.

Jednostavan Domino kostim za maškare / Easy Domino Costume

Evo jedan vrlo jednostavan kostim za maškare -

domino!

Potrebna je spužva dimenzija 100x200x1 cm,

malo crne samoljepljive tapete (vinila),

škare,

pištolj za plastiku i koja patrona

ili igla i konac.

This is very easy DIY costume for a child -

Domino!

All you need is foam 100x200x1 cm,

some black vynil,

scissors,

glue gun

or needle and thred.

Spužva se može kupiti u dućanima sa tkaninama

ili čak u većim centrima, na odjelu boja ili na odjelu za kućanstvo,

kako u kojem.

(ili naprijed-nazad) tek toliko da glava može proći (donja slika).
Nemojte previše zarezati jer je spužva dosta rastezljiva.

As for a head-
in the middle of the top piece, cut the cirlce of diameter slightly wider then
diamater if child's neck (use your measuring tape),
then cut the line left or right to the circle
(or back-front) so the head can come through (bottom photo).
Don't over cut it, because foam itself is quite flexilble (stretchy).

Kad ste pripremili sve dijelove,

rubove zalijepite pištoljem

ili iglom i koncem, kako vam više odgovara.

When you got all the pieces ready,

glue the edges with the glue gun

or hanstitch with needle and thread,

what you prefer best.

Sad je vrijeme za kružiće!

Izrežite ih iz vinila,

zalijepite za spužvu pištoljem.

Znam da je vinil samoljepljiv, ali vrlo brzo otpadne sa spužve,

pa je bolje biti siguran.

Now is time for dots!

Cut them out of the vynil,

glue them with glue gun.

I know that vynil is adhesive, but it will fall of foam very fast,

so it is better to be safe then sorry.

Za izradu ovog jednostavnog kostima ne treba puno različitog materijala

niti puno vremena,

a kad se skupi grupa malih domina kao ova -

- vrijeme je za igru!

You won't need many various materials for this simple costume

or a lot of time to make it,

but when you gather a bunch of little dominos like these -

- the game is on!

Ali, imam sreće da drugima uzgoj limuna ide od ruke,

tako da svake godine dobijem vrećicu netretiranih limuna.

But I get lucky each year and receive a bag
full of untreated lemons from people more agile then I am.

Teško je doći do netretiranih limuna,

zato ih nastojim iskoristi u potpunosti.

Its hard to find untreated lemons on the market,

so when I have some,

I really try to make the most of it.

Limune operem i svakome naribam koricu.

Ovakvi limuni imaju vrlo glatku koru,

tako da ribanje traje.

Wash and grate each lemon.

I noticed that these lemons have smoother skin then regular ones,

so grating takes time.

Posudicu za led napunim koricom,

te dodam još malo vode u svaku kockicu

da se lakše zaledi.

Put grated zest into ice tray

and cover the zest with little bit of water

so it could freeze easier.

Ocijedim sok,

obično ručno.

Squeeze the juice.

I usually make it by hand,

but only because I don't feel like washing juicer machine later on :)

What would you do if you suddenly find a bunch of hillarious Santas

in your own living room?

I took my camera,

because I just knew that is going to be a memory worth capturing :)

It happend couple of days before Christmas.

It was late afternoon,

we just had placed our Christmas tree that we cut earlier that day.

My husband was taking a nap on the sofa,

my son was playing with Christmas toys,

and I was about to start decorating our tree.

I just had hanged some lights on

when I had heard giggles.

And before I knew it,

13 merry Santas bourst into our living room,

laughing and singing!

There were all over the place!

They got bored pretty soon.

They were planning what to do next.

An idea!

"Let's decorate Christmas tree!"

They worked really hard,

even had climbed the ladder :)

They were taking care of each detail.

"Done!"

They just loved how they had decorated.

Don't you?

Another idea-

"Let's help with the laundry!

We are going to fold,

you could iron!"

"What's in the laundry basket?"

Hopfully nothing inappropriate :)

"Look at this kitchen cloth!

We don't have punctured ones on North Pole!"

Oh, well...

"Whose socks are those?"

Luckily I managed to get all stains off :)

"Let's clean the windows!

Easy - peasy!"

"Oh, I am so tired...."

".... because of all this cleaning and folding!"

Codfish Delicacy / Delicija od bakalara

Traditional Croatian Christmas Eve Dish

Bakalar je riba koja dolazi iz Sjevernog mora, u naše dućane najčešće dolazi iz Norveške.
Nekad je to bila jeftina riba, jeftinija od domaće svježe ribe,
pa se zato i udomaćila na našim tanjurima.
A razlog za tako veliku popularnost kroz desetljeća je i činjenica da se bakalar kupuje suh,
što je u vrijeme kad nije bilo struje niti frižidera, bila velika prednost
naspram lako kvarljive svježe ribe.

Suhi bakalar se može kupiti vakumiran ili rinfužo,
ali je važno da ima deklaraciju ili pečat određene vrste -
Gadus morhua.
Najpraktičniji je onaj težine 400-600 g za jedan obiteljski obrok.
Naravno, može se pripremiti i polovica bakalara,
kao što sam i ja.

Codfish coms from the Northern Sea, it comes mainly from Norway to our stores.
It used to be a cheap fish, much more affordable then fresh, local fish,
that's why it became part of our traditional cousine.
Another reason of being so popular over ages is the fact that codfish comes dried,
which was very important fact in past when there was no electricity or fridges.

You can buy dried codfish vacumeted or not,
but it is important that it has declaration or a stamp of certain kind -
Gadus morhua.
Most practical is one of 400-600 g for a family meal.
Of couse, you can prepare the half,
just like I did.

Pošto se bakalar kupuje suh, mora se namakati prije kuhanja.

Najbolje je da u vodi provede barem 48 sati, s tim da se drugi dan voda zamijeni svježom.

Bakalar se stavi kuhati u širu posudu,

zalije svježom vodom i kuha se dok meso ne bude skoro pa gotovo, mekano.
Voda u kojoj se bakalar kuhao se ne baca,
sačuva se za poslije.

Since the codfish comes very dry, it must be soaked before cooking.
It is best to be soaked for at least 48 hours, and change the water the next day with fresh one.
You can prepare codfish in a broader pot.
Pour some fresh water over and cook untill the meat is almost done, soft and tender.
Keep the water in which codfish has been cooked,
we will use it later on.

Meso bakalara se očisti od kostiju i kože.

Take off fish bones and skin.

Meso bakalara je mliječno bijele boje.

Miriše odlično.

The codfish meat is milky white.

Smells great.

Peršin i češnjak izrezati na sitno.

Pripremiti očišćeni krumpir (cca 2 kg),

sol i maslinovo ulje (najmanje 2 dcl).

Chop off plenty of parsley and garlic.

Prepare pealed potatoes (cca 2 kg),

salt and olive oil (at least 2 dcl).

Uzmite širu posudu za kuhanje,

dno poškropite sa malo maslinovog ulja,

posložite red krumpira izrezanog na ploške,

dodajte red bakalara.

Take a cooking pot,

sprinkle some olive oil on the bottom,

cut potatoes into slices and cover the bottom,

place some codfish over.

Pospite peršinom i češnjakom obilato,

polijte uljem.

Sprinkle profusely some galic and parsley over,

pour some olive oil.

Potom se opet slaže krumpir, bakalar,

peršin, češnjak, ulje, krumpir...

dok se sve ne potroši.

Neka najgornji red budu krumpiri.

You have to place sliced potatoes again, then codfish,

then garlic and parsley, olive oil,

potatoes again....

untill you use it all.

this dish is finished when potatoes are done.

možete kupiti i zamrznute filete svježeg bakalara.

Priprema je ista, samo nema potrebe namakati takav bakalar

već se tako smrznut kida na komadiće i stavlja u lonac.

If you dislike dried codfish or you can't find it in a stores near you,

or you find it way too expencive,

you can buy frozen fresh codfish file.

The preparation is very much the same,

there is no need of soaking that codfish,

just cut frozen codfish into pieces and put them in a pot.

Also, if you buy a bigger dried codfish and you decide to cook it all,

and one part meat and deep freeze it.

Prošli četvrtak dolazi moj 11-godišnjak iz škole

i obavještava me da moramo napraviti "nešto"

za prigodnu prodajnu akciju njegovog razreda.

Last Thursday my 11-old son comes home from school

and informs me that we have to do "something"

for his class' fundraiser sale.

"Nema problema", kažem, "Kad trebaš to donijeti u školu?"

"Sutra ujutro."

???!!!

"No problem", I replied, "When is all due?"

"Tommorow morning".

Istog momenta mi na pamet pada ova ideja sa sovama od češera

koju sam nedavno vidjela na jednoj FB stranici.

Uz malo truda, brzo sam došla do originalnog izvora.

I suddenly remembered this pine cone owls idea

that I saw recently on certain FB group.

With little effort, I got original source soon.

Imala sam žuti, svjetlo plavi, tamno plavi i sivi filc.

Češere sam pokupila po dvorištu.

Na originalnoj stranici možete isprintati šablone za izradu ovih sovica,

a pošto meni printer ne radi,

pokušala sam iskopirati kroj od oka

i mislim da mi je prilično dobro išlo od ruke.

Iskrojila sam krila, zaljepila ih ljepilom za drvo,

isto tako i oči i čuperke.

Češere sam pošpricala bezbojnim lakom

Nogice sam isto napravila od filca, žutog.

Dijelove sove sam pištoljem ljepila na češere.

Dodala sam i srebreni konopčić na vrh češera,

da se sovica može objesiti na bor.

I had yellow, pale blue, dark blue and grey felt.

I got pine cones from my back yard.

You can find a pattern on original site,

but my printer wasn't working so I tried to copy it by hand,

I think I got it pretty much right.

I cut all body parts,

glued them with glue.

I spreyed pine cones with acrylic transparent sprey,

added silver rope hangers at the top of the each cone

so my owls can behanged on Christmas tree,

made feet out of yellow felt,

glued everything on cones with glue gun.

Napravili smo 30 komada,

a svaki je bio kombinacija dijelova različitih boja.

We have made 30 owls,

and each one had body parts of different combinations of colors.

Ova me je ideja posebno privukla zato

što svaka sova ima poseban izraz lica,

vlastiti karakter :)

I was expecially thrilled by this pattern

because each owl has different expression,

character of its own :)

Sve su se sovice prodale,

čak se tražio i koji komad više.

Nadam se da ću za drugi put imati nešto više vremena!

All of our hand made owls got sold at fundraiser,

so we are pretty happy with the outcome.

Hope my son will inform me of date due much earlier next time!

Stuffed Apples / Punjene jabuke

Easy to make stuffed apples with cherries

Ova je jesen bila naročito bogata jabukama,

radila sam džem sa jabukama i dunjama,

a posebno sam poludjela za punjenim jabukama!

To radim svaki tjedan, pa i češće od toga,

tako da me moji malo čudno gledaju.

Ali -

slatko je, finog okusa, jednostavno se napravi,

definitivno bez brašna ikakve vrste,

brzo je gotovo, može se jesti toplo ili hladno,

sastojci se prilagode ukusu ili onome što se ima kod kuće,

nije baš kalorično,

odlično paše u hladne dane -

pa zašto se ne bi češće radilo?

I odlično ide uz sladoled!

This fall was particularly rich in apples,

I made some jam with apple and quince,

but I am especially crazy for stuffed apples !

I prepare it every week , and even more often than that ,

so I get some strange looks from my family .

But -

its sweet , delicate taste , easy to make ,

definitely no flour of any kind ,

it is over fast, can be eaten hot or cold ,

ingredients adapt to the taste or what you can find at home ,

not so many calories ,

great food in the cold days -

so why not more often involved ?

And it goes well with icecream!

Potrebno je:

vatrostalna posuda sa poklopcem,

jabuke

You need:

casserole with lid,

apples,

1 čaša usitnjenih oraha,

pola čaše višanja bez koštica,

pola čaše grožđica,

nekoliko žlica šećera (ovisno o ukusu).

1 cup of chopped wallnuts,

half cup of sour cherries without pit,

half cup raisins,

couple of spoons of sugar (according to taste).

Jabukama se oguli koža,

nožem se napravi rupa u sredini,

izvade se koštice.

Ne smije se probušiti dno jabuke.

Peel apples' skin,
use a knife to make a hole in the middle,
take out the seeds.
Do not pierce the bottom of the apple.

Orasi i šećer se pomiješaju,

te se stavi žličica te mješavine u jabuku.

Ako treba, malo se utisne prstom.

Zatim se dodaju višnje,

ili grožđice,

ili višnje i grožđice :)

pa opet orasi i šećer,

pa opet višnje itd.

Mix nuts and sugar,
and put a spoonful (little spoon) of the mixture into the apple.
If necessary, press a little with finger.
Then add cherry,
or raisins,
or cherries and raisins :)
and again nuts and sugar,

cherries again etc.

Na vrh se stavi listić maslaca,

ulije se 2-3 žlice vode na dno posude,

poklopi i peče na 180°C otprilike 30 minuta.

Place a small amount of butter on top of each apple,

pour 2-3 tablespoons of water on the bottom of the casserole,

place the lid on it and bake at 180°C for approx. 30 minutes.

Ponekad će jabuke biti gotove za 25 minuta,

a ponekad za 35 minuta,

ovisno o vrsti jabuka.

Jabuke su gotove kad su skroz mekane,

ali ne previše, vilica mora lagano prolaziti.

Jednostavno se mora probati napraviti :)

Sometimes your apples will be ready in 25 minutes,

sometimes in 35 minutes,

depending of the sort.

Apples must be soft, but not too muddy,

a fork must slide through it.

But, you gotta try to see how it works :)

Rezultat su mirišljive, mekane jabuke

koje plivaju u vlastitom soku pomješanim sa otopljenim maslacem.

The final result are soft and aromatised apples

that swimm in their own juice combiened with melted butter.

Naravno, umjesto višanja, koja su moja omiljena kombinacija,

može se koristiti bilo koje drugo svježe, smrznuto ili suho voće.

Višnje daju jednu kiselo-slatku notu,

te perfektnu boju.

Of course, instead of cherries, that are my favorite combo,

you can use any other fresh, deep freezed or dried fruit.

Cherries provide certain sour-sweet note

and most perfect color.

Najdraže su mi punjene jabuke dok su još vruće,

servirane sa sokom

i sa sladoledom od vanilije.

Serve them while they are still hot,

with its own juice

and some vanilla ice cream.

juta i čipka!

Grubo i nježno.

I've seen this idea for decorated candels on Internet

(but since I haven't got link to original source, I won't post original photo)

and fall in love with this decor -

burlap and lace!

Rough and delicate.

Lovely combo.

Svijeće su iz Muellera, visoke 11,5 cm, opsega 20 cm.

Jutu sam izrezala na dimenzije 8,5 cm x 25 cm.

Čipka je visoka 6 cm, izrezala sam je na 25 cm duljine.

My candles are 11.5 cm high with 20 cm extent.

I cut burlap at dimensions 8,5 cm x 25 cm.

Lace itself is 6 cm high, I also cut it 25 cm wide.

So, you have to figure out dimensions according to your own candle.

Jutu sam preklopila pažljivo,

nategla i prikačila pribadačama da se ništa ne mrdne,

priljepila krajeve plastikom.

I have tighten up burlap carefully,

pinned it so it can't move,

secured it with glue gun.

Isto sam napravila sa čipkom,

lagano sam zaljepila jedan kraj na drugi,

nakon što sam je pozicionirala na juti.

I acted the same with lace,

lightly glued one end to the other,

after I have positioned it according to burlap.

Slijedeći korak je pravljenje vjenčića.

Za to je potrebno razno zelenilo;

borovina, čempres, smrika (borovica), hrast,

magunja (planika), kadulja...

svega što se može naći.

Prvo sam napunila unutrašnjost slamnatog vjenčića

i to borovim grančicama.

Svaku grančicu sam ugurala ispod flaksa (pela) i tako u krug.

Next step is adding greenery to straw base

You can use anything you can get:

pine, juniper, oak, strawberry tree, even sage....

I inserted the inner part of the straw wreath first

using pine brenches

pushing it under the rope (fishing nylon, to be exact).

Nema veze ako malo robusno izgleda,

to j tek prva faza :)

Doesn't matter if it looks untidy,

this is just a first phase :)

Zatim se popunjava vanjski dio kruga

opet grančica za grančicom.

Then you fill the outer part of the wreath,

brench by brench.

Ako neka grana nezgodno strši,

može se poslije i podrezati.

If any little brench is sticking out,

you can trim it later on.

Vijenac se nastavlja puniti sa različitim zelenilom.

Najzadnje se puni gornji do vijenca.

Taj dio najljepše izgleda ako se naizmjenice koriste dvije različite vrste,

npr. smrika sa bobicama i nešto lisnatije.

Contuinue adding diverse greenery to the wreath.

You will finish the top part last.

You can achive the best look if you add two different sort of greenery,

for example, juniper with little berries and some leafy sort.

Kad je zeleni vjenčić gotov,

odrede se mjesta za držaće svijeća,

namjeste se svijeće i dodaju se ukrasi po želji.

Ja sa se odlučila za šiške/češere koje sam nedavno izbjeljivala

(više o tome pročitajte OVDJE),

zaljepila sam ih pištoljem.

When the green wreath is done,

place the candle holders,

then the candles and other decoration .

I decided to use pine cones that I have bleached

(read more about it HERE),

glued it with glue gun.

Iako mi izbjeljeni češeri nisu poprimili boju kojoj sam se nadala,

ova nijansa se odlično uklopila sa jutom.

Although my bleached pine cones didn't turn as I was hoping for,

this shade worked just perfect with burlap.

Ne trebam ni spominjati koliko me je oduševila ova čipka,

tako nježna i prozirna.

I won't even mention how trilled I am with this lace,

so delicate and transparent.

Koja bobica tu i tamo,

koja šiškica,

raznoliko zelenilo...

Some berries here and there,

some pine cones,

different shades of green...

Sutra palimo prvu svijeću Adventa.

Tomorrow we light the fist candle of Advent.
