At the end of our third day in Ecuador, we stopped at a village high up in the Chimborazo mountains. Across from the village was a wild field of Quinoa, blooming bright a proud. It was just too pretty not to take a photo.

This spring came seriously late. So late, in fact, that these lilies were only blooming in Ecuador. Still, it was glorious to find them growing wild at the mansions we visited. And the fact that it was Easter week only heightened the sense of magic.

Because sometimes you just need a few vector mountains for your work. The reference mountains are from my pictures of Alaska, all outlined with the pen tool in photoshop. While not ideal to resize like an esp file, the ranges are large in the psd and are able to scale down with relative ease. Pull a layer from the file and drop it on your project in less than 5 seconds.

Lately at work I've been a part of some pretty awesome projects, and, luckily, I get to share this one with you. The Empowerment Project is a documentary about ordinary women doing extraordinary things. The film was shown on campus and to promote it, I got to make some fun internal advertising.

It's been gloomy around Lancaster lately, with all the snow and grey skies. And often the weather outside reminds me of Gaskell's North & South. So with a few extra hours at my disposal - thank you Jack Frost for the snow - I decided to indulge a little with my favorite adaptation. As Mr. Thornton talked in my ear about cotton clothes and fair masters, I crafted some logos for our favorite mill.

For these logos I focused on the traits of Thornton - traditional, hard working, simple and clear - and researched Victoria Era type as support. Thus, the strong favoring of serifs. Thus, the decided tagline of "English-Made Cotton". In our adaptation, Thornton doesn't use words like "fine" or "regal" to talk about his cotton; it is good, and good is the appropriate word to him. "Good Cotton" wouldn't sell, but English-made would. Let's just say Mr. Bell had his say.

heroes for christmas

In pondering over what to do for Heroes for Christmas this year, I was coming up blank. I had 12 days to fill, and I wanted it to be more that just handsome men. But then I thought, there must be something to this handsome men thing, and with the massive amount of fairytale moves releasing soon - we should recast my favorite fairytale, The Nutcracker, with some handsome men.

If you've been on my tumblr or pintrest recently, you may have seen these first few, but just in time for Christmas, I'm releasing the full set here first.
