I have a thing for doors! So I thought, hey, why not make them part of my Home Decor Series? Your front door is the entrance to your most personal and special space, your home. I love to look at them, pin them, and obsess over them. I am constantly thinking of different colors for my own front door. I thought I would share a little of my strange obsession with y'all. I hope you like doors as much as I do.

Could this door be any more amazing... pretty much NO. How much do I want to be this lady right now? If this were my front door, I would invite you all over, serve you a delish beverage, and we would sit for hours just admiring it.

It's awesome. BUT I have seen this color door go wrong. It looks best with bright white trim to make it pop and cool neutral colored house in the gray or gray-blue family.

Hello pink door! This is so super cool. When working with a classic brick home, you can think outside the box to make it feel more contemporary.

Orange-a-licious! I love this. Notice the blue hydrangeas? Blue and orange are complimentary colors. Hint, hint. I really wanted to see a photo of the entire house, but I couldn't find one, boo.

Yellow and blue go wo well together. This door in general is just so cool with it's craftsman details and window. I'm in love. So it's cool in the first place, but paint it bring yellow and it's legit amazing.

Red doors are classic. This one is so pretty because of the window and how it pops against the gray house with white trim. Think about pulling the color of your door into your decor, notice the red patterned pillow on the chair.

My house is this color of blue right now. We are going to be painting it this Summer. I love the color but man does it fade. The back of my house is another color entirely. I will be painting my house gray, probably Unusual Gray, and I like the idea of a blue door as an homage to my previously blue house.

Vigin Watermelon Mojito Recipe

Summer is practically here peeps! And if you love Summer like I love Summer... well, let's be friends. Now since we're friends, you should totally invite me over to sit for a spell on your front porch. I wouldn't be half disappointed if you brought out a pitcher of this lovely and delicious beverage. Nope, not disappointed at all. This drink is so good, it's going to have to fight our Tidal Wave Punch for the "Best Drink of Summer" title!

Ingredients:

Small Seedless Watermelon
1 liter Lemon Lime Soda
12 oz Concentrated Limeade
3-5 fresh Mint leaves

Directions:
Juice 1/2 watermelon (24 oz) in a juicer, remove rhine before juicing.
Add limeade concentrate and soda.
Mix well until concentrate is dissolved.
Add mint leaves and let chill for at least 1 hr. (24 hours is even better)

Options: Frozen Virgin Watermelon Mojito Place in blender watermelon juice, limeade, mint, 1 cup of water and 2 cup ice. Blend and Serve.

Organize Pretty: DIY Jewelry Organizer

This little project was inspired by my recent Organize Pretty post. I have had this teared stand for a while and honestly, I don't really have a use for it. I mean, I bust it out for parties sometimes but I wanted a way to use it on a daily basis. I decided it would just the perfect thing to sit on my dresser and collect my jewelry.

It's easy as finding a pretty, old teared stand at a thrift store or flea market {see my Tips for Flea Market Shopping}. Grab one and throw your jewelry on it.

I chose to put my bracelets and watches on the bottom tear and my necklaces on the middle tear.

I love how it reflects my jewelry. I think this would also be cute with a glass or colored teared stand. Milk glass would be amazing, of course.

I put my rings and earrings on the top tear. As you can probably tell, I'm not much of an earring girl... I really should rectify that. ;)

I hope you can find a teared stand, or dig out the one you probably already own. I would love to see it if you do this too!

Gray Bathroom Reveal {DIY Makeover}

My hall bathroom needed a makeover. Ahh, I love a good DIY project. I found this gray and white shower curtain at TJ Maxx (this one is sorta like it) and that's what started this whole endeavor. Don't you just love a great find? My absolute favorite part about this room is the silver stripe I painted just below the ceiling. I really feel like it pulls the rooms together and adds some glamour. Glamour is good.

Behold, my beloved silver stripe. I got the idea from my How to Add Color to your Room post. See... the second to the last image there is a room with a blue stripe at the top of the wall. It's so subtle, but is so works!

It was easy too! And you know I love easy. I just decided how wide I wanted my stripe to be, drew a line, using a level as I went. Then I used that line to place the tape. I mixed one part Martha Stewart silver paint (I just grabbed a sample at the Home Depot) and mixed it with a clear glaze base. Painted. Removed tape. Done!

Here's a slightly blurry panorama photo of the room. Sorry I suck at panorama. It's just hard to keep the camera so still. {To do: invest in a tripod}

I love the soothing color. It's Mindful Gray by Sherwinn Williams. I also used this color in my daughter's bedroom... reveal coming soon.

I installed a super easy mirror frame. Made it myself. You can too. I am totally planning to do a video tutorial because that's how easy and awesome this project is.

I just had to add some Springy pink blossoms and some pretty soap. Gotta have pretty soap.

I am so happy with how my DIY Bathroom Etagere turned out {see how I did it}.

...And more pretty soaps and milk glass, of course. Because I love decorating with milk glass.

I used a lot of pieces that I found at flea markets and thrift stores {see my Beginner's Guide to Flea Market Shopping}. If you stick with a theme as you shop then you can switch up how you use your pieces in different rooms.

More vintage milk glass. I used a milk glass tea cup to hold q-tips. Be creative with your organization and make it pretty!

DIY Bike Printables

This is one of my favorite projects ever. I just know you're going to love it as much as I do. This was originally posted on A Little Tipsy a while back, but now it's my turn to share it. I mounted these printables in my little boy's room but they would look great anywhere really. These are so bright and fun. They get me all giddy for Summer! I loved the boy colors so much I created some girly colors in my ETSY shop.

I am more than happy to share these designs with you... but please remember that they are for personal use only. :)

For this project, I used four, $2 Ikea frames and these cute bike printables, designed by yours truly. The color palette was inspired by this Riley Blake Fabric because my son has a similar print fabric in his room.

Also available {ESTY shop only} are these girly bike printables. Only $2 per print :)

All you need to do it print the image, I printed it on card stock, and put it in the frame.

It's always a good idea to lay your grouping out on the floor first. You could arrange the bikes facing each other or going away from each other.

In the end, I decided I like them going away from each other. Don't you just love the vibrant colors? I am working on updating my son's room. He's ready for a "big boy" room and I think these prints are the perfect addition.

3 Natural Beauty Treatments {I Swear By}

I want to share three natural beauty secrets that I use all the time and totally swear by! Coconut oil, honey, avocado, and olive oil all are amazing. I want to share with y'all how I use them. I love them and I hope you will too...

Coconut oil... what don't I use this for? Here are a few things I do with it...

I use it as a shine product for my hair. Hair products can be super spendy and coconut oil actually works better than any I have tried. Plus, once I spilled some of that shine product stuff on my dresser and it took the finish off. That can't be good ;)
Body moisturizer... oh, it's especially good for helping your faux tan last longer. I love how it looks and feels on my legs.
Antibacterial. Yep! It's a natural antibiotic.
Eye make-up remover. Sometimes when my eyes feel dry I will dab a little on.
Eczema treatment. My boy have eczema and coconut oil works great to treat it.

I have also heard you can make deodorant with it, use it as a diaper cream, and sunblock. It's supposed to reduce the itch of mosquito bites and other skin irritations. It's also good for ear infections. Wow!

You have probably heard that avocado and olive oil are super good for your hair, right? Well, it's true! I have in the past blended olive oil and avocado and slathered it in my hair. BUT, I don't always have avocados when I want them. Enter this, olive and avocado deep conditioning masque for hair. I discovered it when I was visiting my sister. She's kind of a hippie and only uses natural beauty products. It was in the shower, I used it, loved it, I went and bought some. I found it at a natural grocery store... but you can order it online.

Honey is a miracle worker! It's a natural antibiotic and is so amazingly soothing. You can use it in your bath, on your hair, and on your face! The other day I mixed some with warm milk and used it to soothe my son's irritated eye. It worked awesomely!

Behold, a super close up of my face {you're welcome}. It's amazing that when you do a honey facial {basically, just smearing honey on your face} that you can see it kind of go into your pores. Nothing will make your skin feel better! You might feel a little dorky at first, but try it. It's so worth it.

My Insta-Week {Issue 2}

Holla! It's time for another installment of My Insta-week! {insert cheering here} Oh come on, you know you love it. ;)

Here's what I was up to this week.

On Sunday we rode bikes around the lake. My kids we totally super whiney and naughty and I took this picture right before I turned around and went home. Still, getting out made me happy!

Monday morning started out right. I teach an indoor cycling class, which is the bomb {you should try it}.

On Tuesday a girl at Cross Fit told me, "You have the best legs." I almost cried. When I look at my legs all I see are my crazy veins {I'm not neurotic, they are clinically bag}. But it just goes to show that others don't even notice our more glaring flaws. I also learned that I need to compliment myself and OTHERS more!

What's up! Curbly.com featured my bike prints! I haven't posted them on this blog yet but I will this week :)

I created a printable for All Things Thrifty. Here's a sneak peek. It says, "You will do GREAT things." I heart it!

I also made this printable for my laundry room. I do not heart laundry.

I took this working on a post about my favorite natural beauty treatments. Aren't you curious... coming soon...

My favorite tree in the backyard. It sure is pretty but it smells like fish! What's that all about?

I visited Oh Sweet Sadie, a fun art & gift show. Loved it. My darling friends put it on a few times a year. It's fab.

I spray painted an ugly light fixture blue. Krylon's Bahama Blue to be exact. I am so excited to add some finishing touches and hang it. Stay tuned for more on this one :)

My daughter's bedroom is coming along very well. Thanks for asking. I will be posting the reveal soon.

Hung out with One Charming Girl. We have gelato at the lake. She didn't even judge me for showing up late and in my workout clothes (even though I hadn't worked out yet and was just planning to). #bestlunchdateever

How to Create a Custom Desk Pad

I'm excited to share a project with you that I shared on A Little Tipsy a while back. I love my desk mat! Hello color and pattern. You might recognize this room from my How to Build a Custom Frame and Quick and Easy Stenciling posts. Don't you just want one? I'm about to show you how... keep reading...

This beauty cost me about $8 to make and it makes the biggest difference in my office. My favorite thing about it is when I get tired of the pattern all I need to buy a new roll of wrapping paper!

Start with a transparent desk pad. I used this one from IKEA.

Here's how I did it.

1. I sprayed the bottom of the pad with Elmer's Glue Brand spray adhesive.

2. Then I positioned the pad sticky side up on the ground and rolled the wrapping paper over it. I made sure to line up the bottom edges for a nice straight line.

3. Next I cut off the roll part of the wrapping paper and flipped the mat over.

4. All that was left to do was to trim around the edges of the mat. All done!

Note: You might need to add a little more spray adhesive to the corners once you have trimmed.

Oh, and you're going to want to run to Target and grab some coordinating notebooks. This was beyond easy and makes the biggest difference in my office!

Decorating with Pink Orange {Inspired by Beauty}

Oh yes, it's time for another Home Decor Series post. This one is super fun! I came across this amazing photo of these amazing pink and orange buildings right on a sparkling turquoise sea. Magical! What if you could bring this inside? What if you could live in it? Oh, yes yes yes, please!

So here is the original inspiration. On Pinterest it said this is in Italy, but I can't confirm that. Actually, I'm not really sure this is a real place. Maybe someone photoshopped it. Wouldn't it be wonderful if it were real though? Either way, it's so pretty. And I love the inspiration!

8 Pretty ways to Organize

Ok so I'm not an overly-organized person. Sometimes I actually don't like it when things are too clean. I might even mess things up a little on purpose. I know, I know, it's a condition. But there is something about pretty organization. If it's clean, but not pretty then I will pass thank you very much. I hope you enjoy these little tips and ideas to help you figure out pretty ways to organize.

Cute kitchen organization by, my pretend BFF, Martha Stewart. I love the tray and the multiple vessels for utensil organization. This is something I will be implementing in my kitchen very soon.

Good Housekeeping's idea of gluing baby food jars to the bottom of a shelf is brilliant. Just think of all the pretties you could put in there.

File your fabric. Well hello there beautiful. I love this idea from Sew Many Ways.

Think of different ways to use things. A friend of mine gave me this glass plate and dome. I like to display some of my cute washi tape in it.

Here's another example of using something unusual for organization. This cake stand disguised as a over-sized soap dish is pretty as well as functional. Bonus!

If you are going to use twist ties, they might as well be super-cute twist ties.

Ok, where has this been all my life? Am I the only one who doesn't already know this. Thanks Martha, for letting me in on this top-secret secret.

If you're gunna use labels, use cute labels for goodness sake. How cute are these free printable jar labels? Cute.

My Insta-week {Issue 1}

I thought it would be super duper fun to relive my life via Instagram pics every Saturday or Sunday. I know, I know, you can't wait. Here is a little of what I have been up to this week. If you don't follow me, well, you totally should!

Last week this time I was at SNAP! It's super fun blogger conference in Utah. Loved it. Met lots of amazing people and had a fantastic time!

This is my favorite insta-pic from SNAP! It's funny.

I got home from SNAP! on Sunday and the sun was out and I was loving it. It had been kinda cold for weeks and I had some serious Spring fever. Do you not adore this bird feeder {Smith & Hawkins at Target}.

I did a little thrift shopping this past week. I bought this chair and ordered this fabric to go on it. Love! I am so excited about it. When I showed my husband he asked if they laughed at me for paying $10 for it. Just wait until you see what I do with it! It's for my daughter's blue and pink bedroom.

Semi-craft-fail. I really like the idea but the gold paint was too cold and bubbled. I think I am going to have to sand it down and try again. Stay tuned.

I'm basically in love with this top. I scored it at TJ Maxx for such a good deal. I usually don't like getting dressed, but when I wear this I don't mind it one bit.

One night this week I visited the Living Planet Aquarium. I learned they are going to be opening an amazing facility in December. So fun!

I also attended a gala to raise money for the Autism Council of Utah. My dear friend Cobi {left} is the fund-raising chair and can be seen here talking to the news. She's amazing and put on an incredible event! XOXO. Plus, I got to get dressed up and hangout with some of my besties!

I was due for a mani anyway but I figured, if I was going to get fancy I should get some gold leaf on my nails. I mean, right?

I just had to insta my husband becoming the newest member of Instagram. He actually asked me permission to get an account. But before I could grant permission he realized he didn't actually need my permission. Does it mean I'm on Pinterest too much if my husband assumes that I own it? ;)

U R a Cutie Printable & Gift Idea

Citrus fruit are Cuties, your friends are Cuties. Hence, this printable... for all the Cuties in your life. I love making fun printables. I hope you guys actually use them :).

I created this printable as part of a gift for a friend. I found and pretty journal and some yummy-looking water at TJ Maxx. I don't actually know if the water was yummy because I didn't think to buy a bottle for myself. What was I thinking? I wanted to take a sip so badly. ;)

I taped a cute paper straw to the bottle with some washi tape and then assembled them with some cellophane.

Disclaimer: this photo was an afterthought. I should have made it cuter... but alas.

Home Decor Color Combinations

Yay for another post in my home decor series! I am loving it and I hope you are too. Today I want to share some of my favorite home decor color combinations. I got this idea from my post about party color combinations. I love color, but it must be well-done and toned with pretty neutrals.

Look how adorable these colors work together. Pairing complementary colors, like orange and blue, is a great idea. These are the color combinations that are most pleasing to the eye. If you use complementary colors you can get away with more color. And more color is a good thing :).

Dear bathroom, I love thee. I mean the color are great and can we talk about the mirror in front of the window. For the most part, this palette consists of crisp white and neutral bluish gray but then it's set off by pops of pink {hello pink!}, orange, and golden yellow.

Again we see neutrals. Even the blue in this room is pretty neutral. But notice the pop of orange {complementary color combo}. If you love a subtle palette (and I do) don't be afraid to add a little interest with a pop of color. Just make sure it's a color combo that's pleasing to the eye. You can't go wrong with complementary colors.

I want to live in this room! All the colors are subtle and it's the gold that really pops. I don't know about you but I have a serious thing for gold and pink. But note that this isn't a pinky pink, but more of a coral pink. I heart this!

Oh look, more orange and blue. Ha. If it works it works. I love how the color in this room comes from the painted furniture. I have always adored this hutch. I just love how the milk glass stands out against the bright hue. See my post about Decorating with Milk Glass for more on this.

DIY Bathroom Shelf Make-over

This DIY etagere make-over is part of my upcoming bathroom make-over. Let's just say that I painted a silver stripe somewhere in the room... and I love it! If you are in the mood, you can check out my Master Bathroom Make-over now. So sorry to make you wait :)

This is the look I wanted. But I couldn't make this old metal etagere wood... but I could add wood...

Restoration Hardware

This is the before picture. Lame-o.

First, I spray painted the etagere Gloss White with a nice paint and primer in one.

I bought two planks of wood shelving at the hardware store and cut it to fit. This is not fun. My saw wouldn't fit wood this wide so I had to cut it by hand.

I mixed a dark stain with a light weathered stain. I was hoping the light weathered stain would be what I wanted but it was too light. Luckily I had some of the stain from my Trunk Coffee Table left over.

I just lay the wood shelves over the existing shelves. Easy.

This is the finished product. Now I have cute bathroom shelving that look more expensive and substantial...

and I didn't have to spend 700 bucks!

Spring Printable... Printable Party!

Now for the finished product! In yesterday's post I showed you the printable I would be using for this project. And I told you that some of my blogger friends would be using the same printable to create something all their own. So fun, right? (Find more printables)

Here's my project. It hangs on my front door and I have a serious decor crush on it!

Cute right? It's pretty similar to the Valentine door hanger that I created in February...

But wait! I added a wreath...

This was the perfect thing to add some color to my front porch. I used it to inspire the color palette of the rest of my outdoor decor (post coming soon).

I love having the same colors on my porch as in my front room. Remember, my front room will be appearing in the book, Room Recipes, that will be released in August. You can see peeks of the room here and here.

How to Make a Sunburst Mirror

I love the rich texture of gold sunburst mirrors. But I don't like to pay for it. Here's how to make a sunburst mirror from a thrifted platter... yep, you heard right! I love thrifting (check out my Beginner's Guide to Flea Market Shopping).

Ah, another Home Decor Project in the books...
Start with a $2 thrift-store platter. I forced my sister to go to the thrift store with me and when she saw me put this in the cart she was like, "What in the world are you possibly going to do with that?" HA!

Next, spray paint that bad boy!

Then, add some texture and an antiqued took with Rub 'n Buff.

Just use a paper towel to rub and umm, well, buff.

I found some small round mirrors at Hobby Lobby. They have a beveled edge... which is nice.

Then I used a hot glue gun to stick the mirror to the platter. Easy!

Now the question is, where will I hang it? I think it will be part of my daughter's room that I'm working on.

Honey Bunches of Oats Greek... yes please!

So if you're like me, you already love Honey Bunches of Oats. How could you not, right? Confession: sometimes I eat it before I go to bed. And I have to bug my kids way less to eat breakfast if I have some on hand. Confession #2: I also have a super big crush on Greek yogurt. Maybe it's that little extra, umm, tang, that makes it so yum. So when I saw Honey Bunches of Oats Greek (find a $1 off coupon here) I was like, "Well, hello Sweetheart."

Once a month my friend hosts a breakfast. It's just an excuse for us girls to get together, of course. This time I brought my box of Honey Bunches of Oat Greek to share. What did the girls think? Loved it. (But what did you expect?) We decided it's especially yummy sprinkled on... you guessed it, yogurt.

You know it's delish, but you might not know that the original Honey Bunches of Oats was created by a Post employee and his daughter when they were having some fun mixing various Post cereals together. Fascinating, right? I would personally like to thank Vernon J. Herzing and his daughter Kimberley for this amazing invention.

Laugh as much as You Breathe Printable

How to Style Sofa Pillows

I love posting about home decor and easy DIY. Just a little change can make a huge difference. It makes me happy! Does it seem hard to know what to do with your throw pillows? What tricks to designers use to make their sofas look so fab and put together? How can you chose just the right pillows and make them look great on your sofa?

And if you're in the market for throw pillows... I am loving these, this, this, this, and those. :)

Get excited because this post is all about how to style your sofa so it looks like the photos in the magazines. Use these tips and tricks and it's actually pretty darn easy! Plus, pillows are another easy way to add color.

Tip: when I shop for pillows at the store, I take up a whole isle laying out different arrangements. I then buy more than I need and try them out on my sofa. You can always take them back.

Styling your sofa is all about balance. You want to create a feeling of balance and symmetry with your cushions. You can do this by using two sets of matching pillows with a accent pillow in the middle (as seen in the photo above.)

This photo also shows matching pillows working inward, with an accent pillow in the center. This is probably the easiest and most conventional way to style a sofa.

Tip: When mixing prints, keep the scale of the print in mind. Balance a big, bold print with a smaller, more simple print. Example, The coral print pillow above is balanced out by the smaller scale stripe.

The above photo illustrates that even if you are using two sets of matching pillows with an accent in the middle, you can still get a little creative. I love how the lumbar pillow in this photo is slightly askew.

The image above is from my own home. I chose plain white pillows with two matching pillows in a bold print on each end. If you want to read more about this room, you can check out my DIY Trunk Coffee Table post.

Tip: Keep in mind what's going on in the rest of the room. This room is also the kid's basement playroom and there is a lot going on, so I kept the pillows simple.

I love this room! This sofa uses a set of matching pillows to anchor the collection of three printed pillows. They are all very different but they work together because of the similar color story and scale of the prints.

You don't have to fill the sofa with pillows! Simply a couple pairs of matching pillows placed at each end will do the trick.

Tip: Remember, when styling your sofa, and designing a space in general, edit! What you take out is often just as important as what you leave in.

Easy Lemon Tart

This is my kind of baking... or, errr.... making something that is already made look like I made it. It's the absolute perfect party food. Here is how I threw together this beautiful and delicious lemon tart in under five minutes. Did I mention that you can find everything you need at your local Trader Joe's?

You will need:

Pre-made Lemon Tart
Lemon Thins
Meyer lemons
Whipped cream

Arrange the cookie thins on the tart and then arrange very thin cut Meyer lemon slices on top of the cookies. This way the cookies absorb the tart lemon flavor. Meyer lemons are best because they are sweet (as far as lemons go) and the rinds are actually pretty tasty too.

Add some whipped cream and garnish as desired. Dig in and enjoy!

This is the perfect thing to take to a party with your girlfriends when you don't have time to actually make something!
