Well...what a difference 3 years makes!

Obama sucks! Obama can't seem to fix our problems! And what the heck was with all the bowing to other world leaders!?!

Maybe a bow to Asian leaders I can understand (so long as the other leader bowed as well) since it's the tradition there. And I can see why you might want to bow to the leader of a nation whom you owe 2 Trillion. But bowing (low) to the Japanese Emperor? America fought hard over 200 yrs ago to throw the yoke of monarchy from its neck and establish a Republic. And now what? A president that bows to foreign monarchs!

Don't even get me started about the undeserved Nobel Peace Prize: Guantanamo - still open for business; Iraq - we are still there; Afghanistan - still there with more troops; Pakistan - tons more drone attacks that Bush. Nobel Peace Prize...what the heck were the Nobel folks thinking giving him an advanced peace prize for?

Jobs -- where they heck have they gone?! Massive unemployment every state. The economy is stuck in a rut. Yes, yes, he inherited a gigantic mess from Dubya. But really...he's had 3 years to start fixing things and what? Trillions of dollars in bailout money and what are the results? Nothing much! And the jobless rate -- the highest it's ever been since 1983! Yes that's right, more people are out of work now than during the horrible reigns of Bush I and Bush II.

There are tons more things I don't like that President Obama has done, screwed up, or failed to do, but I don't have time to list them all now, I will address them in later posts.

However, as much as I hate how my once favorite candidate in 2008 turned out, I must reluctantly--very reluctantly--support him for 2012.

Short of some other--better--Democrat candidate challenging him during the primaries, the opposition candidates don't really inspire much confidence in me, save one.

And that one person is Ron Paul. He's a breath of fresh air. He's got fresh ideas. He's not a regular politician, but a genuine statesman. Unfortunately, it's unlikely he will win the Republican Primaries. This is because the primaries are run by politicians, for politicians. And Ron Paul is not a regular politician. The media is biased against him and his party doesn't seem to support him. I wish he would just run as an independent and skip the primaries altogether.

So because of above, I reluctantly have to support the lesser evil. This is what American elections have become. A choice between the least evil. It's a joke, and we're screwed. But you might as well pick the guy who will screw you less. So, short of Ron Paul winning the Republican Primaries, or running as a viable independent candidate, I hereby (very reluctantly) support President Barack Obama for a second term in the 2012 Presidential elections.

Should he win, I hope that he sucks less and accomplishes more, and makes good on his promises on his 2nd term.

At the same time, I will hope and pray that America gives Ron Paul a chance.

McCain Gracious in Defeat

The old John McCain was back yesterday night. Gone was the angry, desperate, mud-slinging McCain of the general election campaign. Gone was the pretend-to-be-ultra-conservative-to-please-the-base McCain. The McCain of 2000 was back. Perhaps defeat had finally sunk in the lesson that pretending to be what you are not, and mud-slinging negative attacks at your opponent no longer work this time around. It was as if a giant burden was lifted off McCain's shoulders. He can be himself again. He can be a moderate again. He does not have to pretend to support positions he doesn't believe in. And so this newly reborn "old McCain" can afford to be gracious in defeat. He pledged to work WITH Obama to fix the nation's problems. Below is the text of McCain's concession speech.

Text of McCain's Concession Speech:

Thank you. Thank you, my friends. Thank you for coming here on this beautiful Arizona evening.
[APPLAUSE]

My friends, we have -- we have come to the end of a long journey. The American people have spoken, and they have spoken clearly.

A little while ago, I had the honor of calling Senator Barack Obama to congratulate him. [BOOING]

Please. To congratulate him on being elected the next president of the country that we both love.

In a contest as long and difficult as this campaign has been, his success alone commands my respect for his ability and perseverance. But that he managed to do so by inspiring the hopes of so many millions of Americans who had once wrongly believed that they had little at stake or little influence in the election of an American president is something I deeply admire and commend him for achieving.

This is an historic election, and I recognize the special significance it has for African Americans and for the special pride that must be theirs tonight.

I've always believed that America offers opportunities to all who have the industry and will to seize it. Sen. Obama believes that, too.

But we both recognize that, though we have come a long way from the old injustices that once stained our nation's reputation and denied some Americans the full blessings of American citizenship, the memory of them still had the power to wound.

A century ago, President Theodore Roosevelt's invitation of Booker T. Washington to dine....

... at the White House was taken as an outrage in many quarters.

America today is a world away from the cruel and frightful bigotry of that time. There is no better evidence of this than the election of an African-American to the presidency of the United States.

Let there be no reason now...[APPLAUSE]

Let there be no reason now for any American to fail to cherish their citizenship in this, the greatest nation on Earth. [APPLAUSE]

Sen. Obama has achieved a great thing for himself and for his country. I applaud him for it, and offer him my sincere sympathy that his beloved grandmother did not live to see this day. Though our faith assures us she is at rest in the presence of her creator and so very proud of the good man she helped raise.

Sen. Obama and I have had and argued our differences, and he has prevailed. No doubt many of those differences remain.

These are difficult times for our country. And I pledge to him tonight to do all in my power to help him lead us through the many challenges we face.

I urge all Americans...[APPLAUSE]

I urge all Americans who supported me to join me in not just congratulating him, but offering our next president our good will and earnest effort to find ways to come together to find the necessary compromises to bridge our differences and help restore our prosperity, defend our security in a dangerous world, and leave our children and grandchildren a stronger, better country than we inherited.

Whatever our differences, we are fellow Americans. And please believe me when I say no association has ever meant more to me than that. [APPLAUSE]

It is natural. It's natural, tonight, to feel some disappointment. But tomorrow, we must move beyond it and work together to get our country moving again.

We fought -- we fought as hard as we could. And though we feel short, the failure is mine, not yours.

[AUDIENCE: No!]

I am so...

I am so deeply grateful to all of you for the great honor of your support and for all you have done for me. I wish the outcome had been different, my friends.

[AUDIENCE MEMBER, OFF-MIKE: We do, too]

The road was a difficult one from the outset, but your support and friendship never wavered. I cannot adequately express how deeply indebted I am to you.

I'm especially grateful to my wife, Cindy, my children, my dear mother... [APPLAUSE]

... my dear mother and all my family, and to the many old and dear friends who have stood by my side through the many ups and downs of this long campaign.

I have always been a fortunate man, and never more so for the love and encouragement you have given me.

You know, campaigns are often harder on a candidate's family than on the candidate, and that's been true in this campaign.

All I can offer in compensation is my love and gratitude and the promise of more peaceful years ahead.

I am also -- I am also, of course, very thankful to Governor Sarah Palin, one of the best campaigners I've ever seen...[APPLAUSE]

... one of the best campaigners I have ever seen, and an impressive new voice in our party for reform and the principles that have always been our greatest strength... [APPLAUSE]

... her husband Todd and their five beautiful children... [APPLAUSE]

... for their tireless dedication to our cause, and the courage and grace they showed in the rough and tumble of a presidential campaign.

We can all look forward with great interest to her future service to Alaska, the Republican Party and our country. [APPLAUSE]

To all my campaign comrades, from Rick Davis and Steve Schmidt and Mark Salter, to every last volunteer who fought so hard and valiantly, month after month, in what at times seemed to be the most challenged campaign in modern times, thank you so much. A lost election will never mean more to me than the privilege of your faith and friendship.

I don't know -- I don't know what more we could have done to try to win this election. I'll leave that to others to determine. Every candidate makes mistakes, and I'm sure I made my share of them. But I won't spend a moment of the future regretting what might have been.

This campaign was and will remain the great honor of my life, and my heart is filled with nothing but gratitude for the experience and to the American people for giving me a fair hearing before deciding that Sen. Obama and my old friend Sen. Joe Biden should have the honor of leading us for the next four years.

[BOOING] Please. Please.

I would not -- I would not be an American worthy of the name should I regret a fate that has allowed me the extraordinary privilege of serving this country for a half a century.

Today, I was a candidate for the highest office in the country I love so much. And tonight, I remain her servant. That is blessing enough for anyone, and I thank the people of Arizona for it.

[APPLAUSE]

[AUDIENCE: USA. USA. USA. USA.]

Tonight -- tonight, more than any night, I hold in my heart nothing but love for this country and for all its citizens, whether they supported me or Se. Obama -- whether they supported me or Sen. Obama.

I wish godspeed to the man who was my former opponent and will be my president. And I call on all Americans, as I have often in this campaign, to not despair of our present difficulties, but to believe, always, in the promise and greatness of America, because nothing is inevitable here.

Americans never quit. We never surrender. [APPLAUSE]

We never hide from history. We make history.

Thank you, and God bless you, and God bless America. Thank you all very much.

YES WE CAN! CHANGE IS COMING!

TEXT OF PRESIDENT-ELECT BARACK OBAMA'S VICTORY SPEECH:

If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.

It's the answer told by lines that stretched around schools and churches in numbers this nation has never seen; by people who waited three hours and four hours, many for the very first time in their lives, because they believed that this time must be different; that their voice could be that difference.
It's the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled - Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are, and always will be, the United States of America.

It's the answer that led those who have been told for so long by so many to be cynical, and fearful, and doubtful of what we can achieve to put their hands on the arc of history and bend it once more toward the hope of a better day.

It's been a long time coming, but tonight, because of what we did on this day, in this election, at this defining moment, change has come to America.

I just received a very gracious call from Senator McCain. He fought long and hard in this campaign, and he's fought even longer and harder for the country he loves. He has endured sacrifices for America that most of us cannot begin to imagine, and we are better off for the service rendered by this brave and selfless leader. I congratulate him and Governor Palin for all they have achieved, and I look forward to working with them to renew this nation's promise in the months ahead.

I want to thank my partner in this journey, a man who campaigned from his heart and spoke for the men and women he grew up with on the streets of Scranton and rode with on that train home to Delaware, the Vice President-elect of the United States, Joe Biden.

I would not be standing here tonight without the unyielding support of my best friend for the last sixteen years, the rock of our family and the love of my life, our nation's next First Lady, Michelle Obama. Sasha and Malia, I love you both so much, and you have earned the new puppy that's coming with us to the White House. And while she's no longer with us, I know my grandmother is watching, along with the family that made me who I am. I miss them tonight, and know that my debt to them is beyond measure.
To my campaign manager David Plouffe, my chief strategist David Axelrod, and the best campaign team ever assembled in the history of politics - you made this happen, and I am forever grateful for what you've sacrificed to get it done.

But above all, I will never forget who this victory truly belongs to - it belongs to you.
I was never the likeliest candidate for this office. We didn't start with much money or many endorsements. Our campaign was not hatched in the halls of Washington - it began in the backyards of Des Moines and the living rooms of Concord and the front porches of Charleston.

It was built by working men and women who dug into what little savings they had to give five dollars and ten dollars and twenty dollars to this cause. It grew strength from the young people who rejected the myth of their generation's apathy; who left their homes and their families for jobs that offered little pay and less sleep; from the not-so-young people who braved the bitter cold and scorching heat to knock on the doors of perfect strangers; from the millions of Americans who volunteered, and organized, and proved that more than two centuries later, a government of the people, by the people and for the people has not perished from this Earth. This is your victory.

I know you didn't do this just to win an election and I know you didn't do it for me. You did it because you understand the enormity of the task that lies ahead. For even as we celebrate tonight, we know the challenges that tomorrow will bring are the greatest of our lifetime - two wars, a planet in peril, the worst financial crisis in a century. Even as we stand here tonight, we know there are brave Americans waking up in the deserts of Iraq and the mountains of Afghanistan to risk their lives for us. There are mothers and fathers who will lie awake after their children fall asleep and wonder how they'll make the mortgage, or pay their doctor's bills, or save enough for college. There is new energy to harness and new jobs to be created; new schools to build and threats to meet and alliances to repair.
The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even one term, but America - I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you - we as a people will get there.

There will be setbacks and false starts. There are many who won't agree with every decision or policy I make as President, and we know that government can't solve every problem. But I will always be honest with you about the challenges we face. I will listen to you, especially when we disagree. And above all, I will ask you join in the work of remaking this nation the only way it's been done in America for two-hundred and twenty-one years - block by block, brick by brick, calloused hand by calloused hand.
What began twenty-one months ago in the depths of winter must not end on this autumn night. This victory alone is not the change we seek - it is only the chance for us to make that change. And that cannot happen if we go back to the way things were. It cannot happen without you.

So let us summon a new spirit of patriotism; of service and responsibility where each of us resolves to pitch in and work harder and look after not only ourselves, but each other. Let us remember that if this financial crisis taught us anything, it's that we cannot have a thriving Wall Street while Main Street suffers - in this country, we rise or fall as one nation; as one people.

Let us resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship and pettiness and immaturity that has poisoned our politics for so long. Let us remember that it was a man from this state who first carried the banner of the Republican Party to the White House - a party founded on the values of self-reliance, individual liberty, and national unity. Those are values we all share, and while the Democratic Party has won a great victory tonight, we do so with a measure of humility and determination to heal the divides that have held back our progress. As Lincoln said to a nation far more divided than ours, "We are not enemies, but friends...though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection." And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn - I may not have won your vote, but I hear your voices, I need your help, and I will be your President too.

And to all those watching tonight from beyond our shores, from parliaments and palaces to those who are huddled around radios in the forgotten corners of our world - our stories are singular, but our destiny is shared, and a new dawn of American leadership is at hand. To those who would tear this world down - we will defeat you. To those who seek peace and security - we support you. And to all those who have wondered if America's beacon still burns as bright - tonight we proved once more that the true strength of our nation comes not from our the might of our arms or the scale of our wealth, but from the enduring power of our ideals: democracy, liberty, opportunity, and unyielding hope.

For that is the true genius of America - that America can change. Our union can be perfected. And what we have already achieved gives us hope for what we can and must achieve tomorrow.

This election had many firsts and many stories that will be told for generations. But one that's on my mind tonight is about a woman who cast her ballot in Atlanta. She's a lot like the millions of others who stood in line to make their voice heard in this election except for one thing - Ann Nixon Cooper is 106 years old.
She was born just a generation past slavery; a time when there were no cars on the road or planes in the sky; when someone like her couldn't vote for two reasons - because she was a woman and because of the color of her skin.

And tonight, I think about all that she's seen throughout her century in America - the heartache and the hope; the struggle and the progress; the times we were told that we can't, and the people who pressed on with that American creed: Yes we can.

At a time when women's voices were silenced and their hopes dismissed, she lived to see them stand up and speak out and reach for the ballot. Yes we can.

When there was despair in the dust bowl and depression across the land, she saw a nation conquer fear itself with a New Deal, new jobs and a new sense of common purpose. Yes we can.

When the bombs fell on our harbor and tyranny threatened the world, she was there to witness a generation rise to greatness and a democracy was saved. Yes we can.

She was there for the buses in Montgomery, the hoses in Birmingham, a bridge in Selma, and a preacher from Atlanta who told a people that "We Shall Overcome." Yes we can.

A man touched down on the moon, a wall came down in Berlin, a world was connected by our own science and imagination. And this year, in this election, she touched her finger to a screen, and cast her vote, because after 106 years in America, through the best of times and the darkest of hours, she knows how America can change. Yes we can.

America, we have come so far. We have seen so much. But there is so much more to do. So tonight, let us ask ourselves - if our children should live to see the next century; if my daughters should be so lucky to live as long as Ann Nixon Cooper, what change will they see? What progress will we have made?
This is our chance to answer that call. This is our moment. This is our time - to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American Dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth - that out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope, and where we are met with cynicism, and doubt, and those who tell us that we can't, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people:
Yes We Can. Thank you, God bless you, and may God Bless the United States of America.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://voteobama2008.blogspot.com/2008/11/yes-we-can-change-is-coming.html' title='YES WE CAN! You now have less than 24 hours to make up your mind WHO to VOTE for.

Are you going to vote for the PAST...or are you going to vote for the FUTURE?

Do you want a man who's mind is stuck in COLD WAR MODE to lead this nation...or do you want a man who's in touch with TODAY's generation, and has a VISION for a GREAT FUTURE.

Do you want someone who DOES NOT UNDERSTAND THE ECONOMY,owns SEVEN HOUSES, over a DOZEN CARS, and was born with SILVER SPOON IN HIS MOUTH...or do you want a man who was raised in a MIDDLE CLASS FAMILY like most of you were, a man who worked hard to rise where he is, and a man who OWNS ONE HOUSE, AND ONE CAR...just like most of you do?

Do you want a man who wants to stay 100 years in Iraq, and possible launch wars against more countries...or do you want a man who will END the QUAGMIRE in IRAQ and BRING THE TROOPS HOME?

ARE YOU BETTER OFF NOW THAN FOUR YEARS AGO? Do you think you will BE BETTER OFF IF YOU ELECTED A MAN FROM THE SAME PARTY that GOT US into this BIG MESS NOW in the first place? Or do you want a man from a party that UNDERSTANDS what makes the ECONOMY TICK, UNDERSTANDS the NEEDS of the POOR and the MIDDLE CLASS, UNDERSTANDS HOW TO TURN DEFICITS INTO SURPLUSES?

The choice is a no brainer. McCain will DRAG America into an EVEN DEEPER HOLE than the already DEEP HOLE but BUSH has DUG THIS COUNTRY INTO.

Obama is our way OUT OF THIS HOLE. Obama will put this nation back into the RIGHT TRACK. Obama understands the needs of the poor and the middle class. Obama wants to REVERSE the disastrous TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS that takes from the poor and middle class and gives to the RICH. Obama's tax plan will increase taxes ONLY on those who make OVER $250,000.00 a year. Raise your hand if you make that much. Did you raise your hand? I didn't think so. Very very few people make that much a year. 90% of Americans WILL get LOWER taxes under Obama's plan.

And lastly...if the way a man runs his campaign is any indication of how he will govern as PRESIDENT...then you only need to look at both campaigns. Obama has generally avoided negative attacks. Obama stays cool, calm under pressure. Obama does not react rashly to any situtation. He tries to understand things first BEFORE reacting. He is not the kind of man who "shoots first and asks questions later".

On the other hand...McCain's campaign has been extremely negative, ANGRY, DESPERATE, and willing to do ANYTHING or SAY ANYTHING to smear Obama just to score political points. McCain also chose the worst possible VP for plainly politican purposes. Palin is clearly clueless when it comes to many NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL issues. No wonder they hid her from the press! She cannot even answer basic questions. McCain's choice of Palin is one MAIN REASON why several PROMINENT REPUBLICANS--for example RETIRED GENERAL COLIN POWELL--as to why they chose to ENDORSE AND SUPPORT OBAMA.

So, if want a BETTER FUTURE...VOTE BARACK OBAMA / JOE BIDEN! If you want same-old same-old and if you want America to be dragged into an even DEEPER HOLE that what it now finds itself in...vote McCain / Palin!

OBAMA / BIDEN 2008!

VOTE BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!

The Scariest Thing In The World

It's Halloween folks. And guess what scares me during this Halloween?

Not witches, ghouls or goblins! True those creatures would be scary if they exist.

But what's really truly scary is the possibility (a small one, but still a possibility) of a President McCain and VP Palin. Now that IS scary.

Can you imagine 4 more years of Republican rule? (shudder!)

Can you imagine 4 more years of Bush-style policies and shoot-first-ask-questions-later approach to well...mostly anything.

Can you imagine a man who's mind is stuck in the Cold War and whose running mate thinks the Iraq War is "God's Will" in command of the nation's military and with their finger on the nuclear button?

IS THAT SCARY OR WHAT?!

McCain / Palin could very well start World War III. That freaks me out!

Right after 9/11, McCain was calling for war against 4 countries at the same time! He wanted to go to war against Iraq, Iran, Syria and Afghanistan all at once! Even though only Afghanistan had any connection to 9/11! Imagine what would have happened if McCain got his way? Well...if...nightmare of all nightmares...he manages to win this election...he just might do that!

Withdraw from Iraq? NEVER! NOT McCain...he'll stay there 100 years! He'll probably go right ahead and launch more wars agains more countries.

That's scary! And Palin...don't even get me started there. She's far more trigger happy than McCain. Who knows what she'll do if she ever became president?!

The very thought of a President Palin ought to scare the sh*t out of anyone!

So like Obama said...don't slack off just coz he's leading in the polls. Make sure you go out and vote on Nov. 4 if you haven't already done early voting! Don't be overconfident!

Obama told his staffers to work like they are 10 points behind! A good strategy! A true winner doesn't slow down just because he's ahead...he keeps running as hard and as fast as he can! So let us make sure that there WILL BE NO President McCain AND VP Palin. Let us make sure that this election GOOD triumphs over EVIL. Let us make sure to elect HOPE and CRUSH the politics of FEAR. Let us VOTE FOR, AND ELECT OBAMA!

OBAMA / BIDEN 2008!

VOTE BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!

Powell's Endorsement Will Hurt McCain

Excerpted from The Kansas City Star

**********************************************************************

Margaret Talev, William Douglas and Nancy A. Youssef

McClatchy Newspapers

WASHINGTON — Colin Powell, a retired general who'd often been mentioned as a Republican presidential candidate himself, endorsed Democrat Barack Obama for president Sunday during the taping of NBC's "Meet the Press" television program.

Political analysts said Powell's endorsement, coupled with a blistering critique of the campaign of Republican Sen. John McCain, especially of the selection of Sarah Palin as his running mate, was a serious blow to McCain's candidacy, particularly in swing states with large numbers of undecided voters.

"It was a devastating critique. He gave a convincing national endorsement. That's what made it so damaging," said Larry J. Sabato, the director of the University of Virginia Center for Politics. "This is a more important endorsement than Oprah's."

Susan MacManus, a political science professor at the University of South Florida in Tampa, said that Powell appeals to independents who are socially liberal, fiscally conservative and moderate on defense issues. Because they shun party labels, they are more swayed by personality, and Powell is a respected national figure. Independents make as much as 9 percent of voters in swing states.

The timing of the endorsement is key as well. In some swing states, voting has already begun. And in Florida, early voting begins Monday. Obama will be campaigning in Tampa.

"That is why this is a prized endorsement," MacManus said. "I can't think of a more important endorsement at this point in the campaign."

G. Terry Madonna, director of the Center for Politics and Public Affairs at Franklin & Marshall College in Pennsylvania, echoed this comments.

"This is a huge endorsement, maybe the most significant endorsement he's got," Madonna said. "For undecided voters who are looking at their concerns about national security and defense, this is a plus."

Obama, in Fyatteville, N.C., said he was "beyond honored and deeply humbled" by Powell's endorsement.

McCain, interviewed on Fox News, discounted the potential impact. "This doesn't come as a surprise," McCain said. "But I'm also very pleased to have the endorsement of four former secretaries of state, Secretaries Kissinger, Baker, Eagleburger and Haig. And I'm proud to have the endorsement of well over 200 retired Army generals and admirals."

McCain made it clear later in a conference call with Jewish leaders that he intended to hammer home his attack on Obama's economic and tax policies, a strategy he said is working.

"I believe Sen. Obama's comments to Joe the Plumber in his driveway that they need to 'Spread the wealth around,' I think, is having an impact on the American people. I guarantee you," McCain said.

McCain also promised to continue to bring up Obama's ties to former Vietnam-era radical William Ayers, though he told the Jewish leaders that discussion of Obama's former pastor, Jeremiah Wright, was off the table.

Powell said that McCain's emphasis on Ayers — whose fleeting relationship with Obama, Powell said, was irrelevant to America's concerns now — was one of the reasons he found McCain's campaign disheartening.

In a seven-minute explication of his reasons for endorsing Obama, Powell also critcized McCain for his response to the economic crisis and said that McCain's choice of Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate led him to question McCain's judgment.

"Now that we have had a chance to watch her for some seven weeks, I don't believe she's ready to be president of the United States, which is the job of the vice president, Powell said.

**********************************************************************

McCain / Palin Will Say Anything Do Anything To Win

McCain once said he would rather lose an election than lose a war.

However these days, it seems he would rather lose his honor, his dignity, and everything else than lose an election.

McCain and Palin are saying anything and doing anything these days in a desperate attempt to turn the tide and win against a leading Obama. This includes accusing Obama of doing the very thing McCain himself is doing (saying anything and doing anything to win).

The truth is Obama is leading because people are sick and tired of failed Republican domestic and foreign policies. The very same policies that got the United States quagmired in 2 wars for 7 years in Afghanistan, and 5 years in Iraq. That's longer than World War II. The United States won WWII in less than 5 years. Yet we, who claim to be the world's lone superpower, are quagmired in Iraq and Afghanistan. And on top of the the economy is in the biggest mess it has ever been in since the Great Depression. Thank you Republicans!

People are sick and tired of failed Bush policies, most of which McCain will continue if he wins. Heck, I think McCain / Palin will be far far WORSE that Bush / Cheney. It was McCain after all who proposed going to war against 4--YES...FOUR--countries soon after 9/11, after America recently toppled the Taliban. He thought the US could just "muddle through" Afghanistan and laucnh wars against Iraq, Iran, Syria all at the same time. That's INSANE.

Palin thinks the Iraq war is a "mission from God". That's even more INSANE. If these 2 win, they'd start WWIII for sure! That freak's me out! And it should freak you out too!

Obama has shown himself to be calm and level headed in a crisis. McCain has proven himself to be erratic, a flip-flopper and indecisive. All one needs to do is look at how he responded to the economic crisis. He "suspends" his campaign so he can "rush" to Washington...except he really doesn't...he does a bunch of interviews first before going to Washington. And when he gets there...he just sits in a corner and says nothing during Bush's meeting with senators and Henry Paulson, and the chairman of the Federal Reserve. He did not do what he promised to do (bring both sides together to come up with an agreement). He said nothing when the Republicans rebelled agaisnt their own party's wallstreet baillout plan. Heck, all McCain seemed to be doing there was waiting for a photo-op so he can claim credit for whatever baillout bill was passed. That blew up in his face didn't it? The bill failed to pass, McCain looks like an idiot and he has no choice to be "unsuspend" his campaign which was never really suspended to begin with (he was running attack ads the whole time it was supposedly "suspended").

So tell me reader...who do you REALLY WANT as commander in Chief? An erratic, unstable, McCain who once wanted to go to war against 4 countries at the same time, or a calm, cool-headed Obama? We don't need another "shoot first, ask questions later" president. We need someone who can keep his cool in a crisis, ask the right questions, and take the country in the right direction. That man is NOT McCain!

Who do you think can get us out of this economic mess? An old, very wealthy out-of-touch man, born with a silver spoon in his mouth, who owns 7 houses? Or a man who has middle class roots and only owns one house, and far better understands the challenges common folks like you and I face?

Don't believe McCain when he says he's fighting for Joe the (fake) plumber. Obama had it right when he said McCain is really fighting for Joe the CEO and Joe the Hedge Fund Manager!

NO McCain NO Palin!

Obama for President!

Vote Obama / Biden 2008!

Obama Wins 3rd Presidential Debate

According to several instant polls taken right after the debate, Obama won the 3rd and final presidential debate of 2008.

McCain, while he was fiestier and tougher this time...well he just looked old and erratic. He often mixed up his words and seem to have trouble articulating things. Once he called Obama "Senator Government". He seemed dyxlexic. He did not look presidential at all.

Obama is the exact opposite. Always cool. Always calm. Very presidential. McCain tried to insert negative attacks (ie: the Ayers smear) into the debate, but Obama calmly rebutted him and explained his so-called association to this man. Obama refrained himself from going negative as well. He very well could have brought up McCain's dirty associations, but he did not.

I think he knows people are turned of by mudslinging and wisely avoided doing so. McCain, desperate man that he is, probably felt he had nothing to lose. But he is wrong. Independents and undecided voters are turned off by these negative attacks. They want to know WHAT McCain will do for them. They want to know HOW McCain is going to fix the broken economy. So Mr. McCain, I think you lose votes everytime you go negative.

My brother, a McCain supporter, also brought up a good point. Obama looks GOOD on TV. McCain does not.

Looking good on TV does help win elections. It can't be denied. It helped Kennedy and it helped Reagan (Reagan being a master at looking cool on TV).

McCain...well he just looks old and frail and puffy and out of touch.

These days, every little advantage counts. So if looking good on TV helps Obama, them good for him. But don't vote for him because he looks so cool, vote for him because you believe he is the best man to get us out of the giant hole that Dubya dug us into the last 8 years.

NO MCCAIN NO PALIN

VOTE OBAMA / BIDEN 2008!

OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!

Excerpted from CNN.Com:

************************************************************************************

HEMPSTEAD, New York (CNN) -- A majority of debate watchers think Sen. Barack Obama won the third and final presidential debate, according to a national poll conducted right afterward.
Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain debate face to face Wednesday night.

Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain debate face to face Wednesday night.

Fifty-eight percent of debate watchers questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll said Democratic candidate Obama did the best job in the debate, with 31 percent saying Republican Sen. John McCain performed best.

The poll also suggests that debate watchers' favorable opinion of Obama rose slightly during the debate, from 63 percent at the start to 66 percent at the end. The poll indicates that McCain's favorables dropped slightly, from 51 percent to 49 percent.

The economy was the dominant issue of the debate, and 59 percent of debate watchers polled said Obama would do a better job handling the economy, 24 points ahead of McCain.

During the debate, McCain attacked Obama's stance on taxes, accusing Obama of seeking tax increases that would "spread the wealth around." But by 15 points, 56 percent to 41 percent, debate watchers polled said Obama would do a better job on taxes. By a 2-1 margin, 62 percent to 31 percent, debate watchers said Obama would do a better job on health care.

Sixty-six percent of debate watchers said Obama more clearly expressed his views, with 25 percent saying McCain was more clear about his views.

By 23 points, those polled said Obama was the stronger leader during the debate. By 48 points, they said Obama was more likeable. Watch entire debate: Video Part 1 » | Video Part 2 » | Video Part 3 »

McCain won in two categories. Eighty percent of debate watchers polled said McCain spent more time attacking his opponent, with seven percent saying Obama was more on the attack. Fifty-four percent said McCain seemed more like a typical politician during the debate, with 35 percent saying Obama acted more like a typical politician.

"Independents tend to prefer debates that are dominated by substance and light on discussion of personal characteristics," said Keating Holland, CNN polling director. "The perception that McCain attacked Obama gave red meat to GOP partisans, but it probably didn't help McCain with independents."

"There was a notable gender gap as well," Holland said. "Women thought Obama won the debate by a 62 percent to 28 percent margin. Among men, Obama's lead was narrower, 54 percent to 35 percent in Obama's favor."

During the debate, McCain demanded to know the full extent of Obama's relationship with William Ayers, a 1960s radical. But the poll suggests that line of attack may not resonate with Americans. Fifty-one percent of debate watchers said Obama's connection to Ayers didn't matter at all to them, with 23 percent saying it mattered a great deal.

The audience for the debate poll appeared to be a bit more Democratic -- and a bit more Republican -- than the U.S. population as a whole. Forty percent of debate watchers in the survey were Democrats and 30 percent Republicans.

CNN's estimate of the number of Democrats in the voting age population as a whole indicates the sample is about 3 to 4 points more Democratic than the population as a whole, but also about 2 to 3 points more Republican than the population as a whole.

Eighty-eight percent of Democrats questioned in the poll said Obama did the best job, with 68 percent of Republicans saying McCain performed best. Among independents, 57 percent said Obama did the best job, with 31 percent backing McCain as the winner of the debate.

The candidates first debated in Oxford, Mississippi, on September 26. Fifty-one percent of debate watchers polled by CNN and the Opinion Research Corp. said Obama won that debate, with 38 percent saying McCain performed best. The second presidential debate was held in Nashville, Tennessee, on October 7 and 54 percent of debate watchers polled said Obama won, compared with 30 percent who said McCain did the best job.

The running mates, Democratic Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware and Republican Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska faced off in Saint Louis, Missouri, in the single vice presidential debate October 2. Fifty-one percent of debate watchers polled said Biden won, and 36 percent said Palin won.
advertisement

The post-debate polls do not reflect the views of all Americans. They only represent the views of people who watched the debates.

The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll was conducted by telephone Wednesday night, with 620 adult Americans who watched the debate questioned. The survey's sampling error is plus or minus 4 percentage points.

****************************************************************************************************************************

Obama's Electoral Lead Solidifies

Every site with an electoral map shows Obama's lead is solidifying. Electoral-Vote.Com, one of the most popular electoral map sites puts Obama at 349 and McCain at 174. Their map puts Florida and Virginia in Obama's column.

270towin.com put's Obama at 269 and McCain at 163. They have Florida and Virgina as tossups.

Real Clear Politics has it with Obama at 277 and McCain at 158.

Now some of you out there might be doubtful and think the above sites are biased. We'll I got news for you pal...they are most certainly not. How do I know? Simple...McCain's own campaign advisor...Mr. Karl Rove himself has his own electoral map that show's a massive Obama lead. He's even leading formerly Republican states.

No wonder McCain is getting more and more erratic and desperate everyday.

Take for example the "Ayers" smear. Like duh dude...Clinton already tried this during the primaries. It didn't really take off.

I mean c'mon...so you serve in a school board with someone who did a very bad thing decades ago. Do you really vet everyone you meet or everyone you serve with? Do you agree with the past actions of everyone you serve with? Heck no.

Don't even get me started on bringing up McCain and Palin's past associations...which by the way are far far more horrible than this Ayers thing. Alaska Independence Party anyone? That party wants Alaska to secede from the Union. That is called treason. McCain's association with Keating was far more solid that this Ayers smokescreen he's trying to blow up the American electorate's behind.

He knows he cannot win talking about issues...So John McCain takes the lowest road possible. What total hypocrite. This is a man who spoke out against these very kind of smear campaigns after it was used against him back in 2000. Maverick my butt! McCain's latest actions shows he's got nothing different compared with the worst of the Republicans.

Good for Obama to stay above the fray and let surrogates handle this act of desperation from the McCain / Palin campaign.

Heck he could just sit tight and ignore McCain and McCain will destroy his own campaign by himself with these erratic acts of desperation. Did his staff not notice during the 2nd debate that everytime they tried to go negative the live impression meter from undecided voters went way way down? People are sick of this stuff...they want to know what you can do for them! And McCain has no answer to that. McCain does not know what to do for ordinary folks like you and me. How can he? He's a multimillionaire with 13 houses, and 8 cars, married to an heiress. He's never had to balance a household budget to make ends meet. He's never had to worry about losing his house. He grew up with a silver spoon in his mouth and now he is secure in the knowledge that no matter how bad the economy goes...he will have some place to call home...well 13 of them!

I think Obama should revive Clinton's battle cry back in 1992. IT'S THE ECONOMY, STUPID! That's what people care about now! IT'S THE ECONOMY, STUPID!

HE MCCAIN...IT'S THE ECONOMY STUPID! If you don't have a clue how to fix it, then you have already lost this election. Because...that's what people care about the most this time...it's the economy, stupid!

NO MCCAIN / PALIN!

VOTE OBAMA / BIDEN 2008!

Congressional Rebellion? Just WHAT is a Rebellion?

Greetings visitors! This post is a slight deviation from regular postings regarding Obama and his campaign or posts criticizing the Republicans.

In this post I hereby criticize the usage of the term "Rebellion" to call those in the House who voted AGAINST the 700 Billion Dollar Bailout bill.

Now why on earth would the media, the White House, the leadership of both parties are use this word to describe their colleagues who voted against such an unpopular plan?

TRUE they are voting against the wishes of their party leaders, the wishes of the lame duck president, the wishes of ex-CEO and multimillionaire Henry Paulson and the folks at the Federal Reserve. But WHY DID they vote against their "leaders"? Simple folks. It's an election year. And as we know, these politicians mostly listen to their constituents ONLY DURING AN ELECTION YEAR. And what did their constituents say? Majority told them to VOTE NO! Who wants to pay up to $3000.00 per tax payer to clean up Wall Street's mess. Let Wall Street and other rich companies pay for the clean up and fix up of this mess! Don't screw the little guys for something that is NOT, I repeat, NOT their fault! I do not buy for one second the administration's claims that the sky is falling and will fall without this bailout. Bush has become the boy who cried wolf. Maybe this time there really IS a wolf...but he has no credibility left and it's hard for common people like you and me to believe anything that comes out of his mouth.

Now let's get back to my original topic. Are the house members who voted against this insane plan (which they were given only a FEW DAYS to review...and with NO ALTERNATIVES BEING CONSIDERED) REBELS? I SAY NOT! They listened to their constituents...the PEOPLE that they serve (yes yes, it's only because they face reelection...but still at least they DO LISTEN THIS TIME). WHO ARE THESE CONGRESSMEN AND CONGRESSWOMEN'S real bosses? Err...that would be their CONSTITUENTS...the PEOPLE. The PEOPLE elect them, the PEOPLE pay for their salaries through their taxes, the PEOPLE are the ones they MUST SERVE FIRST, they can serve their congressional leaders SECOND. The PEOPLE ARE THEIR BOSSES. If they are doing the will of their TRUE BOSSES (The People), then they ARE NOT REBELS. THERE IS NO CONGRESSIONAL REBELLION. There are only congressional representatives who did EXACTLY what the Founding Fathers intended for them to do...SERVE THEIR CONSTITUENTS...REPRESENT THE PEOPLE. If majority of their constituents say NO...they they must say NO as well. That is their JOB! That is their PURPOSE. That is REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY AT WORK!

It is rare that the system actually works. And it tends to do this during election years. So let us be happy the system is working as it was intended to work. Repeat after me...THERE IS NO CONGRESSIONAL REBELLION. It's just Democracy working as IT SHOULD!

For the record I disagree with the 700 Dollar Bailout plan as it stands now. It needs serious changes or they need to consider ALTERNATIVES before passing something so VERY VERY EXPENSIVE FOR INDIVIDUAL TAXPAYERS into LAW. Did you know the current plan does not address the root cause of this mess? That's right folks, the current plan does not address the deregulation of Wall St. that got us into this mess. The current plan does not provide for any new regulations or rules for Wall St to PREVENT this kind of mess from happening AGAIN!

There are a few times I disagree with my candidate. This is one of those times.

NO TO THE CURRENT 700 BILLION DOLLAR BAILOUT PLAN!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://voteobama2008.blogspot.com/2008/10/congressional-rebellion-just-what-is.html' title='Congressional Rebellion? THE POWER OF OUR BALLOT.

Because the government of the people, by the people and for the people is IN DANGER OF PERISHING. Under the Republicans for 8 horrible years.--the modern DARK AGES if you will--the government of the PEOPLE has slowly morphed to the government of the (rich) PEOPLE, for the (rich) PEOPLE, by the (rich) PEOPLE. Yeah yeah...technically it's still for ALL the PEOPLE. But in practice it seems to work for just the rich people. Specially in recent times.

Look at our situation now. The Republican Administration is trying to RAMROD a 700 BILLION DOLLAR BAILOUT PLAN through Congress. They are trying to get congress to rubber-stamp this crazy plan without much debate. I hope congress develops a SPINE this time an puts its foot down and demands more details and oversight. 700 BILLION to bailout the RICHEST COMPANIES. Yes, these companies are failing now...but through their OWN BAD DECISIONS, their own IRRESPONSIBILITY, their OWN GREED. What this is essentially is PRIVATE PROFIT, PUBLIC LOSSES. When these companies where making profit...they get to keep all that for themselves. But now that they are LOSING MONEY...the government now wants to make their LOSS PUBLIC. The taxpayer will be stuck with the GIANT 700 BILLION DOLLAR BILL to keep these companies afloat.

700 BILLION to the RICHEST COMPANIES...0...that's ZERO for ordinary STRUGGLING AMERICANS...specially those losing their homes. Now Congress is trying to get something into the bill to help out these people...but the Republicans resist...saying "we shouldn't put controversial items into the bill". EHEM! EXCUSE ME! 700 BILLION for the richest (but failing) banks and companies is NOT CONTROVERSIAL but a few billion to help out ORDINARY AMERICANS LOSING THEIR HOMES IS CONTROVERSIAL? WTF! WTF! Are the Republicans insane?

OBAMA IS RIGHT! No to a 700 BILLION DOLLAR Bailout Plan that helps ONLY WALL STREET BUT NOT MAIN STREET. Any plan to rescue the economy MUST...MUST include something to help out the common, ordinary STRUGGLING American citizen and families. The plan must also include OVERSIGHT and ACCOUNTABILITY. There can be "NO BLANK CHEQUE", as Obama has insisted. There must also be more oversight over these companies in exchange for this bailout.

Most of all remember on Nov. 4th that all this happened under a REPUBLICAN ADMINISTRATION. It's about time! It's time to hit McCain and the Republicans hard. It's hardball time! I understand Obama wants to fight with truth and not lies like the Republicans do. But you can wrap that truth on your fist and whack McCain upside the head with it! It's fightin' time!

Off with the gloves! The economic crises has revived the Democrats momentum and now they must run with it! The Republicans don't know crap about the economy...they got us into this mess to begin with. Mr. Obama...make sure you remind the voters of this fact EVERY DAY until ELECTION DAY!

Republicans RUINED the economy.

Republicans turned SURPLUSES into DEFICITS.

Republicans TAKE from the POOR and GIVE to the RICH!

Republicans are RESPONSIBLE for the WORST FINANCIAL CRISES SINCE THE 1930's!

I loved it when Obama responded to McCain's claim that McCain will take on the "old boys network". That's what I want to hear from Obama!

This isn't the primaries anymore. Obama already got the SMART VOTE, THE EDUCATED VOTE, the INFORMED VOTE. Now he needs to get the Less-Educated Vote, the Blue Collar Vote, the Less-Informed Vote. These voters don't listen much to serious intellectual talk. They thrive on soundbites. That's exactly what Obama is doing now and what he needs to do MORE OF!

If the Republicans sling MUD...you sling their MUD right back at them! It is fightin' time! But it holds much wisdom.

Unfortunately many people are allowing just this very thing to happen. They are allowing themselves to be FOOLED--AGAIN--by Republican lies, Republican politics-of-fear, and Republican false claims.

So SHAME on these people who are allowing themselves to be so easily fooled by the Republicans. I hope they eventually wisen up before the election. I mean really people...ARE YOU BETTER OFF NOW THAN 8 YEARS AGO? IS AMERICA BETTER OFF NOW THAN 8 YEARS AGO?

I don't think so. Things have definitely gotten worse. The economy is a JOKE. Gas prices as SKY HIGH. Thousands of people are gonna lose their homes because of the Mortgage Crisis. Countless people have lost their jobs. The Healthcare system is a big freaking MESS. YET...YET...many people ACTUALLY THINK...McCain--a Republican who AGREES with BUSH 90% of the TIME--will make things better.

HUH? Listen you McCain leaners or fence-sitters...This is like trying to fix a broken machine with the WRONG TOOL. DEEP DOWN...YOU KNOW it's the WRONG TOOL. It hasn't worked for 8 years. But part of you THINKS that if you change the name of the tool from BUSH to MCCAIN that it "might" work. I don't think so dude.

It's time to TRY SOMETHING NEW. It's time to TRY a new TOOL to fix the broken machine that is America. It's time to TRY OBAMA! Yeah, some of you maybe scared of CHANGE. But we cannot continue going on the same DISASTROUS COURSE that the country is currently headed. Something needs to CHANGE. McCain/Palin WILL NOT BRING ABOUT CHANGE. They will bring MORE OF THE SAME.

OBAMA has the vision, the temperament, the right judgement to lead this country FORWARD. FORWARD to the FUTURE. FORWARD to PROGRESS. FORWARD to a BETTER LIFE for YOU and YOUR FAMILY.

McCain is the PAST. McCain/Palin will DRAG America down a DEEPER HOLE that it's already in. It's time to GET OUT of the HOLE that DUBYA dragged us into during the past 8 years. It's time to MAKE America the "Shining City on a Hill" once more. It's time to GET AMERICA OUT OF THE DARK...and make her A BEACON OF LIGHT once more to the world.

McCain/Palin will keep the country in the DARK AGES. It's time for AN AMERICAN RENNAISSANCE. They also track states gained by either party compared to the 2004 presidential election.
Obama 273
McCain 238
Ties 27

http://www.cnn.com/
Obama 243
McCain 289
Toss Ups 106

http://electoralmap.net/
This site's data is based on Intrade.Com's State-by-State prediction markets...which gives a completely different picture compared to Intrade's national Obama or McCain prediction market.
Obama 260
McCain 247
Ties 31

http://www.270towin.com/
Obama 239
McCain 177
Toss Ups 122

But there's a wildcard here even. Both campaigns are investing heavily in voter registration drives. The Obama campaign has been doing this since the primaries. Obama's voter registration drive dwarf's that of the republicans. Most new voters being registered are those of under 35--a key Obama demographic. That's something hard to track in polls. Most pollsters call existing registered voters or people who have voted in the last election. Newly registered voters probably aren't in their databases yet, and so are not polled.

Obama understand he needs to change the electorate to win this. And his massive army of volunteers and paid staff are doing precisely this. Will it work? We will find out in November. Personally I believe it will make a difference. If he can get the younger people to vote during the general election has he was able to do during the primaries, I think that gives him a good chance. Also if he can get a massive black vote out during the general election, just as he did during the primaries, that's another factor that will help as well in several states.

Make no mistake...this election is going to be fought between those who want to keep the status quo and those who want change. In some ways this will also be a generational battle...with older generations going for McCain, and the younger generations going for Obama. And sadly this is also a fight between the educated vs the uneducated, the informed vs the poorly informed, the smart people vs the sheeple who are easily swayed by talk show hosts and empty soundbites.

This is the PAST vs the FUTURE. For all our sakes, I believe, and sincerely hope the FUTURE wins!

OBAMA IS THE FUTURE.

MCCAIN IS MCBUSH AND MCBUSH IS THE PAST.

Barack Obama/Joe Biden!

Vote Obama 2008!

Republican Convention HOT AIR

If there was ever any doubt that McCain would be McSame...well today's speakers at the Republican National Convention pretty much cleared all doubt.

These expert liars and abusers of the Constitution were at it again. Saddam would not tolerate such competition for power. And as Barack Obama said in his convention speech...you DO NOT defeat an organization that operates in many countries by occupying and wasting most of your forces and resources in ONE COUNTRY (Iraq)! Like DUH!

And listen to PALIN...she thinks this thing is a CRUSADE. She labels the Iraq War as a "Task from God". I think she got that all twisted. Or she thinks Bush is God. Iraq was a task from BUSH. BUSH is NOT GOD. And a very misguided and poorly planned task it was...and 5 years later...still there, quagmired...except now the Iraqi government wants the US out! And 7 years after invading Afghanistan...Bin Laden is still at large, and the Taliban are resurgent.

Nice Strategy. In a two-minute online video posted last night on the comedy site FunnyorDie.com, Paris Hilton announced her candidacy -- thanks to Sen. John McCain's "Celeb" ad comparing Sen. Barack Obama to Paris and Britney Spears -- and boasts an energy policy that should make every screenwriter proud. Though her parents have contributed to the Republican senator, Paris is no McCainiac. (The ad begins with a voice-over referring to McCain as the "oldest celebrity in the world," before cutting to a photo of the senior citizens of "The Golden Girls.") But she's not for Obama, either. True to form, she's all about Paris. She wants pop star Rihanna as her vice president and might paint the White House pink.

"Hey America I'm Paris Hilton, and I'm a celebrity, too. Only I'm not from the olden days and I'm not promising change like that other guy. I'm just hot," she says, sitting on a lounge chair and wearing a skimpy one-piece leopard swimsuit -- with a copy of Conde Nast Traveler in hand. "But then that wrinkly white-haired guy used me in his campaign ad, which I guess means I'm running for president. So thanks for the endorsement white- haired dude. And I want America to know that, I'm like, totally ready to lead."

Paris then summarizes the difference between McCain and Obama's energy policies -- "Barack wants to focus on new technologies to cut foreign oil dependency and McCain wants offshore drilling" -- before offering her own sober take on the issue.

"Well, why don't we do a hybrid of both candidates' ideas?" she says. "We can do limited offshore drilling -- with strict environmental oversight -- while creating tax incentives to get Detriot making hybrid and electric cars. That way, the offshore drilling carries us until the new technologies kick in which will then create new jobs and energy independence. Energy crisis solved!"
ad_icon

She then continues: "I'll see you at the debates, bitches."

With a few film credits in her resume, this might just be her best acting role yet. The McCain camp seems to think so. "In reality, Paris Hilton may have a more substantive energy policy than Barack Obama," they said in a statement.

************************************************************************

New Yorker Cover Disses Obama

Below are some reactions to the controversial New Yorker cover depicting Barack Obama as a closet Muslim and his wife Michelle as an AK-47 toting terrorist inside the Oval Office.

What boggles the mind is that apparently the New Yorker had a CAPTION/TITLE for this controversial cover that would have clearly explained what they were trying to do. HOWEVER some morons at the New Yorker decided to place this caption INSIDE the magazine INSTEAD OF ON THE COVER. The caption is "THE POLITICS OF FEAR". Had that been placed on the cover itself, it would have made much more sense, and people won't be so mad at them right now. As it is, the cover just looks like a total tasteless piece of crap that looks like it was commissioned by the Republicans.

Obama himself has tried to be nonchalant about it, saying it is their right to publish the thing, but that it probably fanned misconceptions about him. A good move for him I think...he looks like it doesn't bother him much, but leaves it to his subordinates and supporters to roast the New York Times editors for their crude tastelessness.

-----------------------------------------------------
Cartoonists Not Fond of Obama Art on 'New Yorker' Cover

By Dave Astor

Published: July 14, 2008 5:13 PM ET

NEW YORK Barry Blitt's satirical July 21 New Yorker magazine cover showing a Muslim Barack Obama and a gun-toting Michelle Obama is not getting rave reviews from other artists contacted by E&P.

Association of American Editorial Cartoonists President (AAEC) Nick Anderson said he understood what Blitt was trying to do (show how the Obamas are perceived by some people, not as they really are). But he noted that the cartoon was done "clumsily."

The Houston Chronicle/Washington Post Writers Group (WPWG) creator added that it would have helped if the cover art had a title such as “The Politics of Fear,” or showed enemies of Obama painting or imagining the picture.

AAEC President-Elect Ted Rall said "everyone with two brain cells to rub together gets" Blitt's cartoon, but the drawing is "shallow and non-contextual."

"If The New Yorker wants to get into the political cartoon business, it ought to hire some political cartoonists," added Rall. "Until they hire some smart editors, The New Yorker ought to stick to what they do well: gag panels about Upper East Siders at cocktail parties."

The Universal Press Syndicate cartoonist also criticized the "dull, Taliban-like humorlessness" of the Obama and McCain campaigns, which both decried Blitt's cover. "Will the two candidates ban sarcasm if they win?," quipped Rall, who's also acquisition and development editor at United Media.

Philadelphia Daily News/WPWG editorial cartoonist Signe Wilkinson's first reaction to E&P's query was: "If you're spending time on this, it must be summer!" Then Wilkinson, who also does the "Family Tree" comic for United, added: "After the obligatory 'tasteless and offensive' huffing and puffing, Obama strategist David Axelrod said they weren't going to be spending a lot of time on it. I would recommend that the rest of the media do as David Axelrod does. It's satire."

Ann Telnaes, whose work includes animated political cartoons for WashingtonPost.com, said: "I think people need to get a grip. The cover was meant to be a satirical comment on the rumors about Obama's religion and so-called lack of patriotism."

She added that there are more important things to get outraged about. "Just this morning I read a Wall Street Journal article about the Dutch cartoonist who was jailed and his computer and sketchbooks confiscated because his work was considered offensive by the government," Telnaes noted by way of example.

Scott Stantis -- who does editorial cartoons for The Birmingham (Ala.) News and Creators News Service, and the "Prickly City" comic for Universal -- said The New Yorker is "usually pitch-perfect in its use of satire for its often-provocative covers." Among those "perfect" covers, he recalled, was the famous one showing an Hasidic man and African-American woman kissing in a way that imagined the healing of the rift between the New York communities those two people represented.

But Stantis added that the current cover "struck me as remarkably tin-eared. While I understand they're trying to portray the Obamas as their more strident opponents would have them seen, I take the opposite view away. Maybe it's not over-the-top enough? Or perhaps the anti-Obama forces have been too good and this is, indeed, how they are portrayed in the popular mind. Either way, this piece of art did not work for me on any level."

Detroit News/United editorial cartoonist Henry Payne said "Obama's campaign overreacted. The New Yorker has every right to run the cover."

But, Payne added, "I think a point that's being missed is that Blitt's satire has little basis in truth -- the foundation for satire after all.... No respectable figure in the GOP, or McCain's campaign, or any editorial publication I know of has suggested Obama is Muslim.... The Obama/Muslim confusion is one of ignorance; a view held by a minority of the electorate, Dems and Republicans alike."

Payne e-mailed E&P a few minutes later: "On further reflection, I think the cover is just plain fun. Sometimes we in the satire biz take ourselves too seriously."

Mike Smith, whose Las Vegas Sun editorial cartoons and "Stockcar Toons" comic are distributed by King Features Syndicate, asked: "What's the point of being provocative if you're not communicating clearly? The intended message in this art is lost because the execution of the message allows for different interpretations."

Ron Rogers of the South Bend (Ind.) Tribune said he understands that The New Yorker art is "caricature -- an exaggeration of the rumors surrounding Barack and Michelle Obama. But knowing the inflammatory atmosphere in this campaign, I think they went over the line. I think more thought should have been put into the presentation of the artwork and its impact.”

In an E&P story posted earlier today, "Tom the Dancing Bug" cartoonist Ruben Bolling of Universal said "more indicators should have been utilized in the cartoon in order to make the target of its satire clearer."
---------------------------------------------------------

Texas Debate a Stalemate . . . But That's Good News for Obama

I'm sure, many of you were wondering, as I did, what kind of debate we would have tonight. Will it be the fiery one like we saw in South Carolina, or will it be the polite "conversation" we saw in California.

Frankly, I was expecting some fireworks. This is after all Clinton's last stand. If she loses either Texas OR Ohio, she is done. I mean done as in stick a fork in her!

So I was surprised that Clinton was actually polite except for that pathetic bit about the "xeroxed" lines again. The audience certainly let her know what they thought about that desperate act...with a loud series of boos!

Essentially what we got tonight was more like the California debate with bits of the South Carolina one thrown in to make it a bit exciting.

After the debate was over, the consensus seemed to be that it was a tie. I agree with that. But see...that is GOOD NEWS for Barack Obama. The Clinton campaign's plan was to trip up Obama or hope that he stumbles. That didn't happen. Clinton did get a standing ovation at the end, but really that's not gonna matter much. The debate was still a tie. And the latest polls show the Texas race to be very tight. Basically what this means is, even if Clinton wins, it will be with a very narrow margin...not enough to close the delegate lead that Obama has over her. Her campaign will still be alive, but just barely...like a person in a hospital bed on life support. Obama, on the other hand DOES NOT need to win either Texas or Ohio. He just needs to make a good showing to get enough delegates out of them. He can scoop up the other states after these March 4 primaries.

However, I have a feeling that Texas is it. People will look back on March 4 as the beginning of the new dawn for America. Because I believe that Obama will win Texas (barely maybe), and that this will be the final knock out blow for Clinton. He's already won 11 in a row. And a 12th straight win will be the knock out blow. Even Bill Clinton knows this, and has said so in public.

So here's the message to Hillary: Kiss Your White A** Goodbye!

Vote OBAMA 2008!
BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!
A VOTE FOR MCCAIN IS 4 MORE YEARS OF BUSH!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://voteobama2008.blogspot.com/2008/02/texas-debate-stalemate-but-thats-good.html' title='Texas Debate a Stalemate . . . Woohooo!!!

The Obamentum just keeps getting stronger. And by March it will be strong enough to smash Clinton's so-called Texas-Ohio "firewall" like a giant fist through paper. Clearly Clinton is attempting what is now known as the "Guiliani Maneuver". Basically it is ignoring a bunch of "insignificant" smaller states and putting all your bets in one or a couple of big states. Well, after Florida, we all know how that maneuver turned out. Clinton apparently has not learned Giuliani's lesson. Too bad for her.

Clinton's goose will be roasted, toasted and burned to a crisp in Texas. A defeat there or a very strong second by Obama will convince more superdelegates to abandon Clinton's sinking ship and jump to the mighty U.S.S. Obama.

Obama did not just win all 3 primaries tonight. HE WON BIG. NO. HE WON HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He won the white vote. He won the young vote. He won the blue collar vote. He won the low income vote. Heck, he even won the WOMEN'S VOTE! These demographics were formerly on Clinton's side in previous primaries. NOT ANYMORE!!!!

YES. WE. CAN.

Next place where Clinton will be crushed & humiliated: Wisconsin, Febuary 19th. Mark your calendars.

Vote OBAMA 2008!
BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!
A VOTE FOR MCCAIN IS 4 MORE YEARS OF BUSH!

Obama Sweeps Clintons Butt on the Floor

What an absolutely awesome night for Barack Obama it is tonight!

Obama wiped Clinton's butt on the floor, not in one state, not in two states, but in ALL THREE STATES with caucuses/primaries tonight! As if that wasn't enough...Obama knocked her butt out completely off the ring in the U.S. Virgin Islands (a perfect cherry to top his mainland victories tonight).

Obama is also projected to sweep or at least win most of the Potomac Primary states next week. Clinton is planning to stop him in Texas and Ohio. However, Obama is rapidly expanding his organizations and volunteers in those states. He might lose in those states, but he will still grab a lot of delegates. If he continues winning all Potomac states...his momentum will be extremely hard for Clinton. Electability has become a very strong factor for the Democrats now that the Republicans have a presumptive nominee.

We here at Vote Obama 2008 believe Clinton will suffer further floor arse-wipings next week, and will be unable to stop Barack Obama's building momentum. It will be like trying to stop a speeding locomotive by parking a 70's VW Beetle on the tracks. Yeah...you get the picture. Obama will totally wipe Clinton's butt off the election map. The past cannot defeat the FUTURE.

Vote OBAMA 2008!
BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!
A VOTE FOR MCCAIN IS 4 MORE YEARS OF BUSH!

Obama Girl didn't vote

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-mCVqng5R0Y-iVch4FK0DFnwMWw3giLekfwHriCt7H-JcixykFoL1CJlrln1WZMS7XHcE6cVIKK2agIwigfhL1BSfGpQnTsYLcDPWXdQ_wbjpWZbqNbrr32-lCOXNtBaGi6CF7UYS19N7/s320/obama_girl.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5165227092762076098" />
One of Youtube's most famous stars--The Obama Girl--whose sexy youtube videos all proclaim her big crush on Obama...was not able to vote on Super Tuesday.

Further research shows that the videos were just "an acting job" and that she really supports Clinton. However on one interview she does claim she will vote for Obama.

Apparently, it turns out she never voted at all. Her excuse: she was sick and wasn't registered to vote in New York (where she was during Super Tuesday). She is registered to vote in New Jersey...across the Hudson River from New York. However it seems she was healthy enough to make it to an election-themed party on Super Tuesday night in New York. It seems this proves one thing: politics is only important to Obama Girl so long as it helps her become famous and gets her more modeling and acting job offers. Voting doesn't do that...hence it was a low priority for Obama Girl.

Fortunately for Mr. Obama, Obama Girl's videos (though it was just an acting job as she says) have captured the attention of lots of young voters and probably got them to take a closer look at Obama. And we know what that means: the better people get to know Barack Obama, the more likely they will vote for him. The exact opposite is true of Mrs. Clinton. Which would explain why more uneducated, less informed people are voting for her. She gets the STUPID VOTE. Obama gets the SMART VOTE. Fortunately...it seems there are enough smart people out there the stop the Clinton machine and put Obama on top...eventually.

Vote OBAMA 2008!
BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!
A VOTE FOR MCCAIN IS 4 MORE YEARS OF BUSH!

Kodak Theater Democratic Conversation...err...Debate

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj72KMf-9Lkr5VTx-u6fd7ayXmbjX2ohJaSewNKfhbcaBv8DV3gEGB-sJxlB0vNYSPGtDF0SGiweGnHfv2JG2Cz9ZdyJ1RmsnjRvUWfNGZXwa6zd8_olVlASpgRrshsN71aASWsSsHRzLB1/s320/01debate06_600.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5161923122756583826" />

Today's Democratic Debate (if you can call what happened a debate) at the Kodak Theater was almost a exact opposite of what happened in South Carolina.

I heard that people were scalping tickets for thousands of dollars online. I guess whoever bought those overpriced tickets, expecting "Thrilla in Manila" at the Kodak Theater were sorely disappointed.

They were smiling at each other, touching each other...and gasp! even hugging each other at the end!

Obama say it ain't so! We understand there must be unity within the Democratic party to take on the republicans, but you can't win the nomination by being too nice! You must continue to offer sharp contrasts between yourself and Mrs. Clinton, while still maintaining an air of cordiality!

If you keep on saying "we both agree on blah and blah", "we both have positions like this...blah"...how can people tell you and Clinton apart? You are the underdog Mr. Obama and you must fight tooth and nail (while fighting with honor of course).

But you must keep on fighting. Clinton has a big advantage with the establishment support and name recognition. People will not vote for someone because he was nice to Clinton. People will vote for someone because they are DIFFERENT from Clinton.

We, your supporters urge you to continue to contrast yourself against Clinton. No mudslinging need be done. Just continue to contrast yourself compared to Clinton (who deep down is a Republican clone), and NEVER, EVER HUG HER AGAIN!

WE MUST KEEP FIGHTING. FIGHT HONORABLY, but still FIGHT. We cannot have another Clinton in the WhiteHouse. I remember the 90's, and while there was economic prosperity, the Clintons utterly completely divided the nation. It was not all rosy times, as I am sure you know. There must be no Clinton Dynasty.

Go Obama! Fight the good fight!

Vote OBAMA 2008!
BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!
A VOTE FOR MCCAIN IS 4 MORE YEARS OF BUSH!

YES WE CAN!

Victory in Iowa.
