Fuck…not sure how you cats are feeling but for themusicologist it sure is a hard road fe travel at the moment. not complaining, moaning or, (worst of all), looking for sympathy just an observation and comment on this part of the journey.

I’m always up for the challenge but the constant pressure is taking it’s toll. So with that in mind I’m going to lay down this wicked piece of 60’s Soul. Keeping in mind that although it’s the ‘Sound&Fury’ signifying nothing music speaks and themusicologist can’t help but listen. Quality double sider of urban musicology that I had no choice but to edit the two seperate parts together.

NEWS: Universal/TuneCore deal opens major doors for indie artists
Indie artists who distribute through TuneCore can now purchase major label services from Universal on a flat-fee basis. Artists retain their rights and royalties while still benefiting from those Universal services they need, such as access to world-class recording studios and live performance help.

Independent musicians who want to retain the rights to their own songs will now have the opportunity to do so while marketing their offerings through a major label—Universal Music Group. UMG announced a partnership today with TuneCore, a company that represents independent artists and allows them to sell their music directly to fans through major online stores. The deal will let artists essentially have their cake and eat it too by letting them call all the shots while having access to major opportunities.

NEWS: Rupert Murdoch papers paid £1m to gag phone-hacking victims
Rupert Murdoch's News Group Newspapers has paid out more than £1m to settle legal cases that threatened to reveal evidence of his journalists' repeated involvement in the use of criminal methods to get stories.

The payments secured secrecy over out-of-court settlements in three cases that threatened to expose evidence of Murdoch journalists using hackers - they call them "private investigators" - who illegally hacked into the mobile phone messages of numerous public figures to gain unlawful access to confidential personal data, including tax records, social security files, bank statements and itemised phone bills. Cabinet ministers, MPs, actors and sports stars were all targets of the private investigators.

Today, the Guardian reveals details of the suppressed evidence, which may open the door to hundreds more legal actions by victims of News Group, the Murdoch company that publishes the News of the World and the Sun, as well as provoking police inquiries into reporters who were involved and the senior executives responsible for them.

Officers found evidence of News Group staff using private investigators who hacked into "thousands" of mobile phones. Another source with direct knowledge of the police findings put the figure at "two or three thousand" mobiles.

I see an ad in todays paper for the new Chickenfoot album.
or I should say L.P. as in long play vinyl. Yes vinyl is making
a comeback of sorts. Audiophiles from the last century were
completely sold on the warm of the format. CD's in the early
days were hap hazard affairs with clipped off high ends and
muddy bottoms. Then along comes the digital age and
people converting vinyl found you could capture that warmth
of the vinyl. Now some are even going so far as to use old
analog tech to digitally record. I always smile at people who are
fascinated with the fact I have a working turntable in the studio.
Hey all this vinyl ain't just for show! So now go and enjoy some
of that great old vinyl, mixed of course with the digital.

In a way, this little bad ass of a band were precursors. Following their trail, the hair metal wave which struck the 80s American charts created a lighter, poppier version of Crüe's original sound. Which brings me to the core of this little introduction, what did make Mötley Crüe the band we now know? At the early stage of their career, they could have been considered as the bastard child of 70s Alice Cooper and the New York Dolls. Their sound was raw, unpolished and damn exciting if you ask me. This all started after the band secured a major deal with Atlantic records and released their second album, "Shout at the Devil". From there, as well as achieving stardom, their music started to become a tad more pedestrian if always entertaining. "Theatre of Pain" and "Girls, Girls, Girls" certainly were not as juicy as their first two long-plays maybe because the various excesses known to rock'n'roll lifestyle started to be too much of a burden for the four angelenos. Coming back clean and with Bob Rock at the deck, Crüe then released what remains their biggest commercial success, "Dr Feelgood", which saw the band tighten up their sound and achieving what I consider to be their finest work to this day. Hélas, with their singer leaving doomed the band for years to come. In 1994, they released a self-titled album with another singer (John Carobi) and a new sound, something "à la mode du jour" aka more grungy, While decent, this album didn't get much success and, three years later, original singer Vince Neil came back. Since that, the road has been quite dodgy for the Crüe. Three albums have been released ("Generation Swine" 1997, "New Tatoo" 2000 and, finally, "Saints of Los Angeles" in 2008) with mixed success but still a few good songs.
So, here we are now, the Mötley Crüe's baistophe, covering their long and chaotic history, is here for you to enjoy. You know what to do.

I am utilising this quote NOT because that is my belief regarding the journey but because this theme, (unlike some), signifies nothing so my advice, (if needed), is “don’t waste time looking under rocks for scorpions”. There’s nothing deep about this theme other than the music.
First up is a majestic piece of musicology from German born, (and raised), hipsters ‘The Poets Of Rhythm’ who in the 90’s began their journey to redifine the parameters of Authentic ‘Funk’ with their fantasic sound. This cut is from their 2001 set Discern/Define. Anyone who knows, (as well as those who don’t), will, I hope, agree that this groove is as good as ‘it’, (the genre), gets. Soul and Funk was my entry into the world of clubbing and DeeJaying in 1985 on London’s ‘Rare Groove’ scene and I can assure you that had this been around then it would have been well and truly rinsed..
