Mac Applications That Should Be On Windows

It is good to see microsoft coming up with a better solution than Windows Vista. Yes the latest version of their operating system, Windows 7. Windows 7 is far more better than the older version. The way it supports machines with less configuration is something microsoft can be applauded for. A mac user would miss a few important applications in the Windows OS. Here is a simple suggestion to include a few application, which can bring pleasure to any pc user.

1. QUICKSILVER

Apple can boast itself on how great the OS X and the hardware are, but Quicksilver is an application which makes the OS impressive. Sure, Windows has plenty of application launchers, but this deceptively powerful application for keyboard shortcut lovers puts almost any action you'd want to quickly perform on your Mac at your fingertips, and we'd kill to see a solid, stable, and functional alternative for Windows.

2. MAC ON WINDOWS VIRTUALIZATION

It is not Microsoft's fault that there's no good way to run OS X or OS X applications seamlessly on your PC in the same way Mac users can run Windows operating systems and applications within OS X, but that doesn't change the fact that if you could do so, it would definitely help many pc users.

3. PREVIEW

OS X's default image viewer, Preview, is lightning fast, opens nearly any image file you throw at it from PDF to JPG to TIFF and well beyond and on top of it all, provides a relatively impressive advanced feature set. And while there are plenty of solid PDF tools for Windows, we'd kill for something as simple and lightweight as Preview, built into Windows 7, that also supported, say, quickly viewing a folder's worth of images.

4. CYBERDUCK

When you go looking for a solid free FTP client for Windows, you generally end up using FileZilla. And while FileZilla is certainly functional, it doesn't have close to the impressively broad range of functionality and user-friendly good looks of Cyberduck.

5. ADIUM

Adium is an open source, multi-protocol chat application that's actually based on Pidgin, a chat app for Windows and Linux. The difference: Adium is about a thousand times more attractive, configurable, and fun to use.

6. GROWL

It is not exactly fair to put Growl into this category, particularly because at least two projects (Growl for Windows and Snarl) have tried really hard to gain traction on Windows systems, but unfortunately neither seem to have caught on in a really significant way. This likely has something to do with the fact that Windows has its own (weak) notification system built in out of the box, while OS X does not. As a result, users and developers interested in a nice, unified notification system have incentive to use Growl. Still, we'd kill for a Growl on Windows that works as well and enjoys the near universal adoption Growl for Mac does.

7. FLUID

Fluid is a site-specific browser (SSB) that creates a standalone desktop application from any web site effectively turning your favorite webapps into desktop applications. That may not sound all that impressive, especially since Windows users have the Mozilla-built Prism, but Fluid's robust support for user scripts and ability to hook into the Dock system notification tools like Growl put it head and shoulders above Prism in our experience.

8. SKITCH

We usually take screen shots of the screen for various purposes. It can be for any academic activity or some work related activity. In addition users rely on screenshots to keep a copy of any object they love. we have yet to find anything as simple, effective, and attractive as Skitch. Where most screenshot applications have extremely ugly call-outs, Skitch pays close attention to the way screenshot annotations look, so you're actually proud to share the attractive screenshot you just snagged. Another important feature, Skitch supports one-click screenshot sharing online.

9. GARAGEBAND

Windows has no great, free audio recording and editing application that can hold a candle to GarageBand. Sure, there's Audacity, the open-source audio editing app we know and love, but it's not user friendly, and it certainly does not have the range of GarageBand. While GarageBand technically is not free, since you do have to pay for updates to iLife, GarageBand ships for free on new Macs by default.

10. NETNEWSWIRE

Many users use easy to remember words when considering a password. This can be a advantage for a hacker when he looks for subtle clues. The hacker keys in probable words that the account holder might have used throughout the enumeration process. The key points to consider are the know about the individual such as, the character, personal details, character of the individual and other aspects such as hobbies and special moments of the individual. If the account holder is an unknown person focus on accounts that are :

With the same password for a long time
Weakly protected service accounts
Poorly shared accounts
Indicate the user has never logged in
Have information in the comment field that might be used to compromise password security.

The process is not easy as you have to try the process many times or oven consider looping the process. To perform an automated password guess a simple loop can be constructed using It's not always that easy, so you might have to try multiple times or even consider looping the process.NT/2000/XP shell. How To Bypass A Capctha Word Verification - Firefox Users

CAPTCHA is a method used for security measures and enhance security. The acronym stands for "Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart". The process can be useful for a well established website and is used as a security measures against bots and spammers. On the other hand it can be annoying for internet users to type odd looking characters. The Captcha can be bypassed in many ways. Mozilla Firefox has many plugins that can be used to bypass this process. To name one is the Skip Screen plugin in Firefox. Try this out :

Although advances in communications technology continue to occur at a rapid pace, that paraphrase continues to be valid. Within the past decade, the bandwidth of 10 Mbps Ethernet was advanced by a factor of one thousandwith the introduction of a series of enhancements to the original Ethernet specification. First, Fast Ethernet resulted in the bandwidth of Ethernet increasing by a factor of 10 to 100 Mbps. The introduction of Gigabit Ethernet resulted in another order of magnitude increase in bandwidth to 1 Gbps. Although many persons felt that a transmission capacity of 1 Gbps would be more than sufficient for the foreseeable future, another adage states that many applications will grow to use all available bandwidth. While most organizations may be hard pressed to use 1 Gbps of bandwidth, other organizations, including Internet Service Providers and corporations and universities with large backbone LANs, were able to literally fill the 1 Gbps pipe, resulting in the development of 10 Gbps Ethernet. Thus, over the past decade Ethernet’s 10 Mbps operation has increased by a factor of 1000 to 10 Gbps.

This new edition provides a significant amount of additional material to most of the chapters of this book’s previous edition. New information added includes coverage of the transmission of Gigabit over copper conductors, the evolution of cabling standards that facilitate support of higher Ethernet operating rates, and the manner by which LAN switches operate on Ethernet frames transporting information at higher layers in the Open System Interconnection Reference Model.

Apples' ban on Flash Explained.

Steve Jobs has used an open letter to defend Apple's decision not to allow Flash on many of the firm's products.

Neither the iPod, iPhone nor iPad can run the software despite the widespread use of Flash technology on websites for video and animations.

Mr Jobs said Flash was made for an era of "PCs and mice" and performed poorly when translated to run on touchscreen smartphones and handheld devices.

He also criticised the technology for being only under the control of Adobe.
Crashing Macs

The letter comes soon after Flash creator Adobe announced it was ending its efforts to make tools that translate Flash code into programs that can run on Apple gadgets.

Adobe's announcement followed a change to the terms and conditions of the license that software developers must sign when writing code to run on Apple products.

That change banned developers from using the automatic translation tools Adobe had been developing.

Mr Jobs' lengthy open letter explains some of Apple's thinking behind the effective ban on the use of Adobe tools and translating Flash.

He said it was bad for the smartphone era because it did not support multi-touch systems and helped drain battery power unnecessarily.

The Apple boss added that it fell short on security and was "the number one reason Macs crash".

He also pointed out that there were now alternatives to flash technology, particualry for web video.

Mr Jobs also wrote about the tools that software developers use when creating applications.

The reason Apple did not want people to use Adobe's automatic translation tools, he said, was because experience had told it that it results in "sub-standard apps".

Adobe has yet to issue any response to Mr Jobs comments.

The letter provoked an avalanche of comments online, with many saying Apple's restrictions on what can be done with its software go far beyond those on Flash.

Google to launch operating system.

Google is developing an operating system (OS) for personal computers, in a direct challenge to market leader Microsoft and its Windows system.

Google Chrome OS will be aimed initially at small, low-cost net books, but will eventually be used on PCs as well.

Google said net books with Chrome OS could be on sale by the middle of 2010.

"Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS," the firm said in its official blog.

The operating system, which will run on an open source license, was a "natural extension" of its Chrome browser, the firm said.

The news comes just months before Microsoft launches the latest version of its operating system, called Windows 7.

'Back to basics'

"We're designing the OS to be fast and lightweight, to start up and get you on to the web in a few seconds," said the blog post written by Sundar Pichai, vice-president of product management, and Google's engineering director Linus Upson.

"We are completely redesigning the underlying security architecture of the OS so that users don't have to deal with viruses, malware and security updates.

"It should just work," said Google.

Google already has an operating system for mobile phones called Android which can also be used to run on netbooks. Google Chrome OS will be aimed not just at laptops but also at desktops for those who spend a lot of time on the web.

Microsoft Office takes to the web

Microsoft has fired its latest salvo at Google, announcing a free web-based version of its Office software.Office 2010 will include lightweight versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote when it ships next year.The new web offering will compete with Google's free online Docs suite launched three years ago.

Last week Google took aim at Windows with news of a free operating system while in June Microsoft introduced a new search engine called Bing.

"We believe the web has a lot to offer in terms of connectivity," Microsoft's group product manager for Office told the BBC.

"We have over a half a billion customers worldwide and what we hear from them is that they really want the power of the web without compromise. They want collaboration without compromise.

Office 2010 will enhance video and picture capabilities in PowerPoint.

"And what they tell us today is that going to the web often means they sacrifice fidelity, functionality and the quality of the content they care about. We knew that if and when we were ever going to bring applications into a web environment, we needed to do the hard work first because we hold such a high bar," said Mr Bryant.

Microsoft said that 400 million customers who were Windows Live consumers would have access to the Office web applications at no cost.

At a conference for business partners in New Orleans, Microsoft announced an early release of web apps to thousands of testers later this year.

At the end of the year the company expects to release a proper public beta for the software and ship a final version off to PC makers in the first half of 2010.
