Hidden Secret Codes for Google Android Mobile Phones

Recently I got a Google Android mobile phone "Samsung Galaxy I7500". While I'm loving playing with it, I also found some interesting secret codes which can enable/disable lots of hidden settings in themobile phone. These codes can also show many useful information about the phone.

So in this topic, you'll get several hidden secret codes which can be used in any Google Android mobile phone to access things which are not accessible by default.

FYI These codes have been obtained by decoding various .apk files present in the phone firmware.

This code can be used for a factory data reset. It'll remove following things:
- Google account settings stored in your phone
- System and application data and settings
- Downloaded applications
It'll NOT remove:
- Current system software and bundled applications
- SD card files e.g. photos, music files, etc.
PS: Once you give this code, you get a prompt screen asking you to click on "Reset phone" button. So you get a chance to cancel your operation.

Think before you give this code. This code is used for factory format. It'll remove all files and settings including the internal memory storage. It'll also reinstall the phone firmware.

PS: Once you give this code, there is no way to cancel the operation unless you remove the battery from the phone. So think twice before giving this code.

This code is used to get information about phone camera. It shows following 4 menus:
- Update camera firmware in image (Don't try this option)
- Update camera firmware in SD card
- Get camera firmware version
- Get firmware update count
WARNING: Never use the first option otherwise your phone camera will stop working and you'll need to take your phone to service center to reinstall camera firmware.

This one is my favorite one. This code can be used to change the "End Call / Power" button action in your phone. Be default, if you long press the button, it shows a screen asking you to select any option from Silent mode, Airplane mode and Power off.

You can change this action using this code. You can enable direct power off on this button so you don't need to waste your time in selecting the option.

This code opens a File copy screen where you can backup your media files e.g. Images, Sound, Video and Voice memo.

Fast Boot Mode

This mode is used to flash the phone firmware using command line tools. To access this mode:

Power off your phone.
Press and hold Call and End Call/Power keys.

Download Mode

This mode is also used to flash the phone firmware. Mostly this mode is used by GUI tools for easier and quicker flashing. To access this mode:

Power off your phone.
Press and hold Volume Down, OK and End Call/Power keys.

Recovery Mode

This mode is used for recovery purposes like to reset the phone firmware. To access this mode:

Power off your phone.
Press and hold Volume Down, Call and End Call/Power keys.

Once the alert triangle is shown on screen, press "Menu" key to reset the firmware or press "Home" and "End Call/Power" keys to show recovery menu.

-= T I P S =-

1. Please update to the latest firmware version of your phone, before going onto the tutorial.
2. This tutorial works best for UNHACKED phones, I recommend doing it on a clean/unhacked phone, or from a fresh hard format. But also feel free to try it on hacked phones, just be sure that you know what you are doing.
3. It will be much better if you would do as you read the tutorial.

-= Doing a hard format =-

1. Back up all your important data (e.i. Images, Sounds, Videos, etc.) MANUALLY. Not by PC-Suite or something.
2. Format the phone and the memory card SEPARATELY.
3. Format the phone using this: (I call this, an S60v1/v2/v3 phone's Self-Healing)
*#7370# - Input on standby mode.
OR
Turn off the phone. Then PRESS and HOLD the Green Button + Number 3 + Symbol "*" (asterisk/star) SIMULTANEOUSLY. Turn on the phone. Keep holding until the phone asked you to input which country you reside.
4. Format the Memory Card via Card Reader on the PC having the FAT disk attribute.
5. After formatting the phone, and the memory card. Put back the memory card again on the phone. Then format the Memory Card again using your phone. (Just to be safe)
6. Bring back all your files on your phone or/and memory card.
A very important information : (regardless of N-Gage 2.0)
As you have read right, I made or wanted you to format the phone and the memory card separately and back up your phone manually is because, here's the thing, IF AND ONLY IF your phone has a virus on it, making a back up via PC-Suite also backs up the virus file (I think). Saying that, when you want to return your back up from PC-Suite, it will also return the virus. AND, as I have experienced, these nasty viruses sometimes (or all the time) copies a clone of itself from the phone to the memory card. So, if you already has a virus, then format your phone, you actually don't know that the virus is also there on your memory card. After format the virus copies itself from the memory card to the phone. Making your phone format a waste. See what I mean?
Now you are worrying if the virus is in the memory card, then your PC is in danger? The answer is NO. A PC and a Mobile Phone has different Operating Systems. Saying that, a virus for the phone has no result on the PC, and vice-versa (unless someone made a single virus file for both OS. I'm not giving ideas you F***ing virus makers). The only way you could be infected is if your memory card already has a virus for the PC. Then you are DEAD (not literally). It is always and very best that you have a file explorer on your phone that can see hidden files on the phone and memory card (I use FExplorer) so that you can see if a PC-already-affected-virus copies something on your phone or memory card. This way you can always have the first move on protecting both your phone and your PC from a virus.

Details:
InstallServer is a file that helps you install almost ANY APPLICATION that you can get. A very important file for you and me. Secure the one that you need and extract it.

2. N-Gage_1.01_Build_1281_(2008).sisx
Details:
This is the N-Gage 2.0 Launcher released on the first quarters of 2008 that I have repacked. The official installer will install directly onto the phone and has already included the N-Gage_Autostart.sisx, but mine will ask you where to install it but unfortunately doesn't have N-Gage_Autostart.sisx. You must have atleast free 5Mb on your phone even if you install this on your memory card.

3. xx_20001079.txt -> 20001079.txt
Details:
As I've found out on my own experiments, this file can be found or cannot be found on your phone (regarding which phone model you have). This file houses every (I think) screen resolutions handling your phone has, giving you the ability to play on landscape or not. In my opinion, it is not best to overwrite this file if you already have it. Put it this way, you have your own default phone settings (your phone own resolutions) then replacing it with other phones default phone settings (could be different resolutions and settings). Not a good idea isn't it? The new version CAN give you the ability to rotate screen regardless of this file (I think).
Instruction:
I could say that our default (assumingly) file for this is "n73_20001079.txt", rename it to 20001079.txt. If you found your phone model on the available 20001079.txt, use it, but feelfree to try and experiment on others. Full screen fix for 320x240 and 352x416 screen resolutions are not yet available. But I'm working on it.

4. N-Gage_Patch.sis
Details:
BiNPDA patch file. This file replaces the "trial bar" to a "progress bar" on the launcher for BiNPDA ******* games. You need to install this just once.

5. Any file explorer
Details:
Any file explorer that you can get or have (FExplorer, Xplorer, etc.) It is needed to copy 20001079.txt and InstallServer.exe to your phone.

6. *NEW* Hello_Carbide_by_FCA00000.sisx
Details:

An on-phone hack made by FCA00000. This gives you the ability to disable the Platinum Security of your phone, much the same as BiNPDA's Security Manager v1.0. The difference is BiNPDA's Security Manager is acquired through MetroTRK or AppTRK, which the new firmwares are not compatible with, leaving them not able to install N-Gage 2.0. BUT, HelloCarbide is a .sisx installer that can be installed through the phone, manually, giving those who has new firmwares the power to be hacked. YES!!!
NOTE!!!
As of my experience, the only way to bring back to default is by restarting the phone. This file must not be used lightly unless you know what you are doing. Use on any other purposes besides the one being said on my tutorial AT YOUR OWN RISK!

*OPTIONAL* N-Gage_AutoStart.sisx
Details:
I've renamed this file again because on the file name (and on other threads that I found) is version 2.04, but this is really not it's proper version. This file converts your N-Gage version to 1.01 Build 1281, fixing the "Update" error on start-up of the launcher. As you've noticed that already the latest version is 1.01 Build 1281, so this file is not needed. Actually, I think so too, but just to be safe and sure, install it. As I've said above, this is included on the official installer, so I think we better install it. This is the file that is included on the official installer. No change on the previous version that I've uploaded, completely identical.

*OPTIONAL* Symbian_OS_PIPS_v1.2.sis or Symbian_OS_PIPS_v1.3.sis
Details:
Actually, these are NOT the missing Symbian OS Pipes. The N-Gage 2.0 installer will notify you that is missing and with aprroving, you let N-Gage 2.0 install the one on it's embedded Symbian OS PIPS(v1.01). This upgrades your Symbian OS PIPS and Symbian OS Pipes to version 1.02 or 1.03. The one included on the main and official installer is 1.01, I myself did not update mine.

Special Tutorial for the REAL N-Gage 2.0 compatible phones

For N-Gage 2.0 compatible phones (N81, N81-8gb, N82, N95, N95-8gb) (firmware must be updated to the latest version), download the latest version on the official website for your phone, then follow these steps:
1. Install the official N-Gage 2.0 Launcher on your phone.
2. Follow all Chapter 1.
3. Follow Chapter 2 - Step 2 ONLY.
4. Follow all Chapter 3.

*CHAPTER 1* = *Preparing for instalment*

Step 1 - "Installing HelloCarbide.sis" -= N E W =-
Install HelloCarbide either on your phone or memory card. After it's done, you'll noticed that you have a new application called HelloCarbide (without an icon). Don't open yet.

Step 2 - "Applying the proper InstallServer.exe" -= N E W =-
I assume that you already have installed your file explorer, if not, install it first. Now open your file explorer (must enable "show hidden files and folders"), DO NOT EXIT but switch (press and hold the menu button) to your standby mode then open HelloCarbide. You'll notice that it has no welcome screen or what-not, just press Options -> Menu1 -> Yes. If done correctly it will close itself. Now you have all the capabilities on your phone, much as BiNPDA's Security Manager. Now switch back to your file explorer. (You must not open any other application other than your file explorer). Copy the proper InstallServer.exe on "C:/sys/bin" (if there is no "bin" folder, then make one). Exit from the file explorer. Do not do anything else, just restart your phone. Move on to installing N-Gage 2.0.

*CHAPTER 2* = *Installing the N-Gage launcher to your phone*

Step 1 - "Installing the N-Gage application"
Install N-Gage_1.01_Build_1281.sisx to your phone or memory card. As before, continue installing the application by ignoring the warning that it is not compatible to your phone and some missing OS pipes.

Step 2 - "Installing the N-Gage Patch"
Just install Nokia_N-Gage_Patch.sis.

*NOTE* SKIP THIS STEP IF YOUR PHONE MODEL IS ALREADY FOUND ON THE AVAILABLE 20001079.txt. N-GAGE INSTALLER WILL COPY THIS AUTOMATICALLY ON YOUR PHONE
Step 3 - "Copy 20001079.txt to private parts of the phone a.k.a. HACKING the phone" -= N E W =-
(As I've experienced, the latest version already give me the ability to rotate screens.)
Remember the application HelloCarbide that we installed on your phone? This is the time to use it, again, and the last time. First open your file explorer (must enable "show hidden files and folders"), DO NOT EXIT but switch (press and hold the menu button) to your standby mode then open HelloCarbide. Press Options -> Menu1 -> Yes. If done correctly it will close itself. Now switch back to your file explorer. (You must not open any other application other than your file explorer). Copy the proper 20001079.txt (our default is n73_20001079.txt remember?) to "C:/private/10202be9". DO NOT OVERWRITE IF YOU ARE ASKED TO. This is much safer because the one on your phone is already it's default settings. I think it COULD mess up your game, speed of the game, resolution if you overwrite it. Now exit files explorer. Do not do anything else, just restart your phone.
If your phone is compatible to play on landscape view (see the "Working phone" on the top, secure and use the one being stated there. Then don't forget to delete "C:\Private\10202be9\persists\20001079.cre". *Thanks to enej* I just have to add that use at your own risk.

*OPTIONAL* - "Installing the N-Gage AutoStart"
Just install N-Gage_AutoStart.sisx to your phone, ignore the "not compatible" warning. Move on to the next step.

*OPTIONAL*- "Installing the missing Symbian OS Pipes"
Noticed the missing Pipes? It's actually not missing. N-Gage 2.0 already installed it for you (version 1.1) if it gives you the warning that it's missing. Just install this if you want to upgrade the one on your phone. Completely optional.

And now you're done installing the N-Gage application. You now have your N-Gage launcher application. But what good will it do if there are no games??? Now we're going to install the games.

*CHAPTER 3* = *Installing the N-Gage 2.0 games*

(There are quite some difference from BiNPDA's necessary game instalment, to my way of BiNPDA games instalment. Either way, you could follow whichever you want. If you want to follow mine, read on.)

Step 1 - "BiNPDA games"
You should have downloaded or got the BiNPDA games by now. And you should come up with the game installer. If not, I think you should ask somebody about it from where to get it here and what to do about it.

Step 2 - "Game transfer" <- the difference
You must now got the game installers (xxxxx.exe files), and BINPDA told you to install it via MetroTRK connection. But I found a better, faster way (I guess, for me, because my computer doesn't have any USB 2.0 Port. And installing via MetroTRK took me 20mins+ just transferring the .n-gage files. Yeah, it's pretty outdated, I mean, REALLY outdated) So on to the procedure, don't connect your phone to your pc just yet. Open the game installer that you've found (make sure it's BINPDA *******). Install it just as you would have connected your phone to the pc. Click the check boxes: got n-gage application, and no need to install BiNPDA SecMan application. Now you're in the MetroTRK automatic com port detection, just click next. then it will say that MetroTRK could not connect to phone, and then you'll see that there's an option saying that you could extract the file to the pc. What the hell?! So just extract it to the pc, the file will be on the directory where you've opened the game installer. Now all you need to do is transfer the .n-gage files to your memory card in "E:/n-gage/" (if there's no "n-gage" folder, then make it). Now you got games? Yes, but not yet installed. Move on.

Step 3 - "Installing the .n-gage files" -= N E W =-
You can now install games without any hassle of activating anything. As I have told you, you can now install almost all or any UNSIGNED applications/games on your phone!! Open N-Gage launcher. It could take about 5-10secs for loading. But hey, now you've opened it, wait for the “Preparing installation” warning to finish, but you still got no games. Press right on your keypad, you should see all your "to-be playable" games but only they are a little bit blurred. No worries, just click one up and it will ask you where to install. And after it is done feel free to play on or restart your phone, either way, you can now play. And we are done!!!

-= N E W =-
IMPORTANT NOTES / FIXES TO REMEMBER:

* NOTE * First of all, congratulation! Now you have installed your N-Gage 2.0 Launcher and games. But have you noticed? You can now install almost any or all UNSIGNED applications that you can find!!! Who's your daddy huh? Hehehe.

* NOTE * Repeat chapter 3 when installing games for the N-Gage 2.0.

* NOTE * If you think you won't need HelloCarbide anymore (in my tutorial, you'll need it once in Chapter 1 and Chapter 2), feel free to uninstall.

* NOTE * You can set your N-Gage profile and update online. And play on N-Gage Arena (as I have read on some threads) But I suggest not going to, keep in-mind that every software/application that is ******* is illegal.

* FIX * I suggest that you restart your phone before (not necessarily after) playing any N-Gage games. A fresh restart means -> fresher, cleaner memory RAM of the phone -> cleaner memory RAM, means faster phone response (loading). And N-Gage 2.0 takes a lot of RAM to start. This should also fix the error "Not enough memory".

* FIX * For those who are having "System Errors". Sometimes these are due to misnamed access points. Always check for it and access points should not have " ' " (apostrophe). Just to be sure, do not place any special characters on it.

* FIXED * No more "Unable to start game" after playing!!

Before asking please include on what phone model you are trying to install it so it won't be so hard for me for the answer. Please give credit and respect as I have given all of those who made this possible (i just don't know most of them or where I got these files).

New 'smart-lock' app turns your phone into a house key

You Don't have to hide your keys under the mat anymore!

A new smartphone app can turn your phone into a house key without actually having to press or do anything.

The idea behind August - the USD 199 smart-lock to be sold later this year, is that your phone communicates with a device that can be attached to the door.

A base station or base plate attaches to the interior portion of your deadbolt and connects to your phone via Bluetooth.

When the smartphone app is in close proximity to the base station on the door, the door will unlock or lock, depending on what side of it you are on.

The hardware is meant to be simple and elegantly designed, but many of the features are in the app and software. With the smartphone app, you can unlock or lock the door without actually having to press or do anything.

Using the proximity sensors and Bluetooth, when you get to the door you don't have to look for your phone or keys. It will automatically unlock the door.

People can also send keys in the app to other people just like they would an email. It also lets you set permissions and check the lock status when you are away from the house.

"You can control who has access and you can remove that access at any time. You have probably hidden a key under a mat before for a guest. We want to get rid of that. No more hiding keys under mats," Jason Johnson, who created the system along with Yves Behar, told ABC News.

Lending a house key is now just a tap away, and while it may be convenient, it does raise security issues. But Behar and Johnson argue that this is actually safer than a physical key.

Temple Run: Oz app review

Ever since Imangi Studios launched the endless running game Temple Run for iOS and Android, it made sure that we never stopped running. The game has seen 4 versions since the original release in August 2011, with the sequel, Temple Run 2 launching earlier this year in January. The game has not just been appreciated, but went on to break the record of Angry Birds Space clocking in 50 million downloads in just 13 days.

Of these 4 versions, two are spin-offs released in association with Disney. While one was Temple Run: Brave, based on the animated Disney/Pixar movie Brave, the more recently launched Temple Run: Oz is inspired form the upcoming Disney movie Oz: The Great and Powerful. We started running in the new environments to find out if it continues to keep us just as addicted as the original game.

Temple Run: Oz stays true to the game's tradition of non-stop running as well as turning, jumping and sliding to avoid hurdles and collecting coins. But since this version is based on Disney's movie, it incorporates a lot of elements such as new environments, objects and characters. You run as The Great and Powerful Oz down the mesmerising Yellow Brick Road in the Whimsical Woods and The Dark Forest.

Now instead of the three demon monkeys or one big giant weird-faced monkey, you're being chased by three flying baboons at the start of the game and every once in a while when you stumble while running.

The game is definitely more challenging than the original one but similar to Temple Run: Brave and the recently launched Temple Run 2 in some ways. It seems to have gotten faster as well, demanding greater focus and better reflexes. The obstacles in the game are quite tricky and catch you by surprise. They appear only when you approach them really close, unlike the earlier games where you could see them well in advance.

Plants in the game often leap from locations on the side of the path, attempting to grab you as they fall. Trees also often fall, seemingly out of nowhere, into the path to block your way. But the obstacles are just one part. The path itself will sometimes crumble while you're on high bridges or cliffs, forcing you to make a split-second decision to move to the side of the bridge that remains intact.

The musical backdrop of the beating drums has been replaced by the movie's background score that adds a lot of intensity and keeps the adrenaline rush going. As always, the graphics are really smooth and you'll be in awe of the surroundings and the attention to detail.

Temple Run: Oz also has certain common elements as seen in the Brave version of the game. You could collect bows in the game to unlock different bonuses like extra score points and score multipliers at the end of each running session. Here the bow has been replaced by a musical key to unlock the music box for similar bonuses. Further, you can choose to open all the boxes in case you're feeling too greedy, by paying additional coins.

A new element in the game as is the essence of the original Wizard of Oz movie is time travel with the tornado in a manner of speaking. While running you come across sign posts guiding you which direction to take and soon enough you'll see yourself transitioning between worlds with the yellow brick road collapsing before you and taking you to a different location.

The Whimsical Woods are set in bright environs but dangerous all the while with cliffs and forests. The Dark Forest is set in a graveyard amidst ruins of stones and gives a sense of evil lurking around. After each running session, if you happen complete that particular level's challenges, you level up and are awarded with gems or coins.

Another pretty neat movie-inspired element is the hot-air ballon which appears at several points in the game for an additional opportunity to collect coins as you sail through the clouds and make your way across the crystals reminiscent of Emerald City.

The balloons appear on the screen, and head quickly in one direction at a crossroads. Follow the balloon and hop on to take a balloon trip through the clouds. In case you don't feel like it, you can always choose to head out in the other direction.

The game also offers additional power ups every now and then which include a magnet, a flying monkey and a soap bubble amongst others. Gems can also be used to "supercharge" power-ups. For instance, the 2X coin power-up becomes a 3X coin boost at the cost of 1 gem.

You can opt for Weekly or Legendary Challenges from the Menu section that also award coins, gems and multiplier bonuses. These include challenges like Marathon Man (run a certain distance), Big Time (Get 125,000 points in 1 run), Steady Bankroll (Collect 25,000 coins) and many others.

Overall, the game offers a fresh perspective in terms of being movie-inspired. Apart from that the basic mechanics of jumping, sliding and tilting remains the same. Currently, the app is only listed on the App Store and like other Temple Run games, we'd hope to see it launch for Android as well. (Update: The game has now been released for Android as well priced at Rs. 53.18 in the Google Play Store).

Even though the app isn't free, Rs. 55 ($0.99) seems pretty decent to try out something new. Those who still wouldn't mind skipping this version, can check out Temple Run 2 that's also new release and is available for free.

Rovio teases forthcoming Angry Birds Go!

Angry Birds enthusiasts might have a reason to rejoice. Rovio shared an image on its official Facebook page teasing a new offering. The new iteration of the popular gaming series Angry Birds is labeled as "Angry Birds Go!"

In a blog post on its website, the company said, "Those birds and piggies are getting ready for their most thrilling and action-packed game yet! All your favorite characters are returning for a brand new title that will bring you closer to Piggy Island than ever before."

This brief announcement was followed by an even briefer animation on a website that the company has launched for the new game. Visiting the same, flashes the words 'Ready'...'Set'...'Go'. The animation is then followed by a bird running on-screen. In the end, you see "Something new is coming" with the Angry Birds Go! symbol beside. What one might decipher from the brief trailer is that perhaps this version of the popular aerodynamics based game might now offer a running element into the series. The "Ready. Set. Go" at the start makes it feel more like a race as well.

Angry Birds Go! will be the seventh game in the popular series, following the original Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, Angry Birds Rio, Angry Birds Space, Angry Birds Star Wars and Angry Birds Friends.

What platform the game will be available on is unknown at the time, but based on the past, it's safe to say Android and iOS will be targeted at the very least. As of now all of Angry Birds titles except for one are available in mobile as well as desktop versions. Angry Birds Friends stays an exception, as the gaming app was initially available only on Facebook before going mobile.

While we wait for further details about the forthcoming game, Rovio suggests that we stay tuned to the company's social media platforms for more information.

Google Play Music All Access

It’s been a few weeks since Google’s new music streaming service – Google Play Music All Access – was released to the world. I’ve spent lots of time with it and have used it create playlists during informal get-togethers with friends, during a road trip, while out walking my dog, and while cleaning my house. I’ve used it on my HTC EVO 4G LTE with headphones plugged in, on my ASUS Nexus 7 with Bluetooth speakers, and on my Chromebook Pixel with all of the above. And, for now, I’ve decided that it’s a keeper, especially over services like Spotify and Rdio.

When I asked in our forum whether anyone planned to switch to All Access for themselves, I still wasn’t quite sure what I was going to do myself. But after a few weeks of playing around with it for myself, I’ve finally made up my mind – and here’s why.

All Access has simpler pricing, and is cheaper than the competition (for now).

With Spotify, you can stream music on your desktop for free, or radio on your mobile device for free. You can pay one price to eliminate ads on the desktop, and another price to play individual tracks on your phone. Rdio not only has different pricing tiers for desktop and mobile, but it also has a family plan, as well. Free users have an unspoken limit on how much music they can stream on the desktop, but no one seems to know what it is.

On the other hand, All Access has one plan – and that plan gets you everything, on both mobile and desktop. Plus, it’s cheaper than the competition: Spotify and Rdio charge $9.99 for the most similar plans, while All Access will only charge $7.99 if you subscribe before June 30. That’s even cheaper for two people than Rdio’s family plan.

All Access has more features than the others.

All Access features unlimited streaming of most of Google Play Music’s online library. You can create unlimited playlists and listen to unlimited radio with no commercials, and enjoy unlimited skips on desktop and mobile. Mobile users can also download songs for offline playback, and can even look ahead at what their individual radio stations will play in the future. Users can add songs to the queue, or simply swipe to remove them. Users can also easily reorder songs, even in radio stations.

Additionally, All Access lets you subscribe to playlists that are curated and updated by Google’s own “music experts,” which I find more helpful than subscribing to playlists from my friends, who often have horribly different tastes in music than me.

Your main options when using All Access include “Listen Now,” which showcases recently played albums, radio stations, tracks, and playlists; “My Library,” which consists of songs you’ve uploaded plus other songs you’ve added from the streaming library; “Radio,” which are stations you create, along with recommended stations; and “Explore,” which is one of the best ways to discover new music. And in my experience, the more you listen, the better it gets about suggesting new music for you to listen to, and creating new radio stations. (You’ll have to have some patience here – it didn’t get it all right in the beginning, but after a little while – once it learned more about my tastes in music – its recommendations have been spot on.)

All Access gives you the best of both worlds.

Right now, All Access is the only service that does all three of these:

All Access acts as a music locker, allowing you to upload 20,000 of your own, personal tracks to your library – even if you don’t pay the monthly fee.
All Access also lets you stream a majority of songs that you can purchase on Google Play Music, as much or as little as you want.
Finally, All Access lets you purchase some individual tracks that aren’t available to stream (most songs by The Beatles comes to mind), or that you might want to own in case you cancel the monthly subscription. The songs you purchase and the ones you upload will always be available to you, regardless if you pay each month or not.

iTunes is rumored to be working on something similar to All Access, and if this happens, Google might be in trouble. But right now, the fact remains that Google’s service is the only one that lets you do all three, and it does it really well. If Google can poach enough iTunes customers away from Apple, then it might not matter as much when iTunes finally does get around to launching a similar product.

Let’s face it – between 20,000 of my own tracks, the tracks I can purchase from Google, and Google’s streaming music library, there are really no limits to what I can listen to.

However, All Access is only great if you use Android.

Right now, desktop access consists of a web player that’s available on all major desktop OSes, including Chrome OS, Windows, Mac, and Linux. That’s great – but unfortunately, there’s only an Android app right now. If you use iPhone or Windows Phone – or, God forbid, Blackberry – then you’re pretty much out of luck. Google promises that it’s working on an iOS app that will be released very soon, but it’s not here right now.

Still, the Android app is very good, and it’s been getting consistent updates to make it better. I find navigation very intuitive, and for the most part all of the desktop features are available in the Android app, except for some of the labs that you can enable.

One fairly major beef I have is that it’s not possible for me to upload my own music using Google’s own Chrome OS. There is no way to do it from the desktop interface, and there’s no Music Manager app for Chrome like there is for Windows, Mac, and Linux. If Google wants Chrome OS to truly be a desktop replacement, then it needs to fix this problem right away.

It’s not a huge issue for me, since the majority of my music was uploaded a couple years ago from a Windows machine. But I still have one song on my Chromebook hard drive that I’m just dying to upload. Come on, Google.

Overall, though, I heartily recommend Google Play Music All Access. It’s everything a music streaming service should be – and then some.

How to manually root almost any Android device

Yesterday, we talked about rooting your Android device and all the advantages root gives you. If that made you want to root, there are a couple ways you can go about it.

The easiest method is to use a one-click application solution like unrEVOked, but it only supports certain devices. SuperOneClick is a similar application that supports almost any device, but I cannot always get it to work with my computer.

In my experience, I have found that the most reliable root method is to simply run the commands yourself. It may be a little more difficult than the one-click solutions, but it is practically guaranteed to work.

Even so, you should still read through the directions before you begin, and if you are not comfortable with any of the steps, then you should probably not attempt to root. This is a fairly advanced tutorial, so make sure you're prepared for some bumps, even though there shouldn't be any.

Rooting gives you valuable experience with ADB, knowledge of root methods, and in general a better ability to solve problems with your device as well. Still, you do not need to do this if one-click solutions have worked for you, or if you do not feel comfortable with the process. If you do want to learn more about Android by manually rooting your device, just keep in mind that you root at your own risk, and any damage to your device is your fault.

Prerequisites

There are a few things that you need to have before you start rooting. Obviously, you will need an Android device with Android 1.5 or higher and a USB cable to connect it to your computer. You will also need to have some files from this SuperOneClick .zip and the Android SDK/ADB up and running on your computer. If you are unfamiliar with ADB, our sister site GoodAndEvo has an awesome ADB tutorial that should get you up to speed.

First, we need to move some files around to make running commands a bit easier.

Unzip the SuperOneClick .zip and pull out the su-v3, busybox, Superuser.apk, psneuter, and GingerBreak files. Rename su-v3 to su, and place the files in your ADB Platform-tools directory, which is contained in the Android SDK folder on your computer.

If you are on Windows, you will also need to have proper drivers for your phone installed. These can usually be found by going either to the manufacturer website or searching for the name of your phone and the word "drivers." Once you find drivers, download and install them like any other application.

Rooting your device

Now that you have ADB setup and the proper exploit files, you are finally ready to root. Still, before you start running commands, you need to put your phone in USB debugging mode (settings > applications > development > enable USB debugging) and connect it to your computer.

With that out of the way, you can finally open command prompt to run some commands.

To open the command prompt in Windows, just click on Start, then Run, and type cmd.exe. In Linux, open whichever terminal emulator suits you. Once you have a command prompt, you need to enter your platform-tools folder, also called a directory. You can use the "cd" or change directory command to accomplish this. If your sdk folder is called "android-sdk" the command should look like this: cd android-sdk_r11-windows/platform-tools.

This command will leave you with a shell prompt in the platform-tools directory. From here, you can run the commands that will actually root your phone. Be sure to run these commands exactly as they are written. The commands with an "$" or "#" will only run after the "adb shell" command.

First, here are the commands that run the psneuter exploit and gain a root shell.

adb devices
adb push psneuter /data/local/tmp
adb shell
$ cd /data/local/tmp
$ chmod 777 psneuter
$ ./psneuter

At this point, the exploit will run and close the shell. You will need to run these commands to restart the ADB server.

adb kill-server
adb devices

Now comes the moment of truth. Use the

adb shell

command to open a shell. If you see a "#" sign, you have root access, so go ahead and continue to the next part of this tutorial. If not, you can go back and try the previous steps again, or ask for help in the comments.

We now need to make this root permanent. From the root shell you just opened, type the following commands.

# mount -o remount,rw -t rfs /dev/block/st19 /system
# exit
adb push busybox /system/bin
adb push su /system/bin
adb install Superuser.apk
adb shell
# chmod 4755 /system/bin/busybox
# chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
# mount -o remount,ro -t rfs /dev/block/st19 /system
# exit
adb reboot

At this point, your device should reboot. You can check for the Superuser icon in the app drawer, and then try a root only app like Titanium Backup. If that works, congratulations. You have successfully rooted your Android device. Prepare to enjoy all the benefits of root.

5 tips for creating additional icons for Android icon packs

It’s when I see the horrible mess that is iOS 7 that I truly learn to appreciate Android’s ability to let you customize the home screen yourself, including deciding how icons should look like. A lot of people use custom icons on their Android devices, and those that do, have probably encountered the same problem I have more than once: an icon pack you like don’t have any icons that fit a specific app or shortcut. When that happens, I normally turn to photo editing to make some additional icons. I’ve been asked about some of my own several times, so I thought I would share a few tips for making additional icons to go with an existing icon pack.

Note: This article is intended for amateurs like myself, not professional designers. It does assume basic knowledge of editing and creating icons on the side of the reader, and is not a guide to creating icons from scratch.

1: Use an existing icon from the pack as the starting point

Whenever I need to create a completely new icon from scratch, I always start by opening one of the existing icons in a photo editing program, rather than start from scratch. This allows me to see the resolution, as well as the size of the actual icon, which might have a bit of a margin on the sides. An icon can end up looking extremely weird next to others if it fills out the file when the other icons are centered, or vice versa.

2: Use existing images and icons to create your new one

Normally you shouldn’t run around the internet, copying images and using them in your own creations, but for strictly personally use, it won’t kill anyone. If I for instance need an icon of a shopping cart, I don’t draw a shopping cart from scratch, but rather find an icon of one that I adapt to fit the dimensions, style and color schemes of the other icons I have. I’ve also made new icons by combining two icons, and by removing parts of an icon and scaling the rest.

3: Gradients, textures, and colors are often easier to copy than to replicate

I use a fairly large icon pack as the basis for all my icons, and add icons to that as needed. The existing icons use a gray gradient that I have no clue how to replicate exactly from scratch, so I don’t. Instead, I find an existing icon that has a lot of surface area, copy it, and use it to fill out my new icon. For the shopping cart example above, I would find an icon with single color shopping cart, select it using a quick selection tool, and then paste another icon into that selection, and scale it until it covers everything. You could do the same for textures. For colors, using the color picker on an existing icon always works better than trying to guess the color.

4: For detailed icons, use a higher resolution

Professional designers would likely kill me for not working with high resolution images and vector graphics, but for just personal use, I tend to not worry too much about making icons compatible with future high resolution screens and whatnot. The only time I intentionally work in higher resolutions than that of the icons I’m adding to is when the icon has a lot of detail. Selection tools and similar tools generally work better when selecting higher resolution pieces, so I find it better to scale everything down afterwards if I need to use those.

5: Transparency is often better than fill colors

This one is perhaps obvious, but I’ll say it anyways: using a file format that supports transparency (such as PNG) and keeping parts of an icon transparent are normally better choices than trying to fill in icons with the background color where they’re going to be used. That allows the background color to shine through, making it easier to keep it consistent.

Some things you might not know you can do with your phone

I’ve had an interesting time the past week educating a new Galaxy S III owner and an EVO 3D owner on some of the things you can do with an Android of reasonable recentness (I told the Galaxy S III owner she needed an EVO, but alas, it was not to be). During this time, we’ve come across a lot of things that I don’t think most people know you can do, so I thought I’d share.

Use your phone as a computer boot disk/install CD.

While I only have read instructions on how to do this for an EVO 4G LTE, other new phones aren’t that different. Your product may vary. It’s extremely useful if you’re in the IT crowd instead of carrying install CDs – not so much for the average user, though.

Use your phone as a metal detector.

Chances are, if your phone has a compass built in (almost anything after the EVO 4G does), you can use free apps like the aptly named Metal Detector to find anything close that contains iron.

I used this to locate a buried cast iron drain pipe in my back yard. The readings were so slight, we decided to not dig there until a real metal detector showed it. It was still where my phone indicated it was, though.

Send text messages from a computer after integrating with Google Voice.

Google Voice is a very sweet little suite of phone tools that allows you to forward your phone, ring multiple phones, screen calls, listen to voicemail as people are leaving it, record conversations, and – my personal favorite – send text messages from your computer if you’re using Google Chrome.

Not having to type out long addresses for someone needing a text makes it an invaluable tool. Unfortunately, some routing issues and ongoing Sprint integration problems are limiting its usefulness as of late.

Pay for stuff using Google Wallet.

This is still more of a theory around these parts than it is a thing in action. But when it works, it works – and it’s cool. Using NFC, which you can get with some newer phones – or even upgrade your device using third-party NFC devices such as Moneto - you can pay tabs using an encrypted temporary credit card number linked to your real credit card.

The technology is pretty neat in that even if someone stole the credit card number Wallet passed along, that number’s only good for a little bit and for a set amount.

Unfortunately, most of the places that have NFC enabled payment terminals don’t seem to have working NFC. It’s something that will probably be even cooler in a few years, but not quite yet – at least in my parts of town.

Make phone calls over WiFi.

You’re not going to have signal in a bunker of a building, but where there’s internet and a WiFi access point, there’s the possibility of using GrooveIP.

I’ve found that GrooveIP, plus my integrated Google Voice number, generally starts ringing a good four seconds before my carrier/EVO does. I’m almost always guaranteed to at least know someone called, whereas with Sprint, it’s iffy if it’ll even show a missed call.

Get a gauge on the weather using a built-in-barometer.

While my beloved EVO 4G LTE, and most phones for that matter, do not contain a barometer, for those that do (I’m looking at you Samsung Galaxy S III folk), you can get a pretty decent reading on whether the weather is fair, or whether the weather is not with a barometric pressure sensor app and some observation. No need to rely on Weather.com.

Provide internet for people with a cell phone provider or antennae not as robust as yours.

It’s gotten pretty silly the number of times my friends and I will be somewhere where there’s next to no service. It’s also kind of silly that I’ll have service, while my friends – who are on the same network – won’t be able to get enough of a cell signal to do anything.

A solution I’ve run across is setting up a WiFi Tether for Root Users and sharing the net with them. So far, I’ve managed to hold the moral high ground here as we’re all on Sprint and we all pay for the data we’re using. On Sprint, at least, this might terminate your contract if you’re not careful, so be careful with that.

Level the playing field – literally.

Most phones today allow you to see exactly what angle the phone is at. This is extremely useful when you need a level, and like most of the world, you’re simply not carrying one.

Slapping your phone on the top of a picture frame can give you pretty accurate results as long as your case isn’t absurd.

The big list of Android root applications and tools

Initially, the big list of Android root applications and tools will be far from complete, as I could write for literally days before covering everything. So consider this a work in progress, check back later, and feel free to provide input.

My goal here is to have a repository of the most useful Android root applications. Since there are thousands of root apps in Google Play, and tons more that never make it there, I will count on some input from you for things I have missed or things that should go away.

The requirements to make this list are that the application uses root to do something other than simply request root access, and that it is not device-specific (such as turning off the triangle notification on Samsung phones). Beyond that, I’m going to attempt to list all the useful apps I know of, and add to the list as I discover new one or when people point out that I’ve missed something - I’m most likely not snubbing a developer who worked on a good root application; it’s more likely I forgot.

If there are a million variations of the same application (i.e. Root Checker), I’ll probably only put one of them down. If there’s a reason to put Root Checker-X in, let me know and I’ll get that done. If it’s a cheat for a game, I’m probably not going to put that in.

Android root applications and tools

Backup

Titanium Backup. Back up individual apps, or the entire catalog. Back up unrooted devices, and restore to rooted. Save apps to the cloud. Keep multiple backups of applications, texts, emails and data. Restore individually or as a group. Paid application ($6.58) required for batch restore, but fully functional without.

My Backup Root. Sort of like Titanium Backup – provides app and data backup with batch restore included by default, and without the cloud connect unless you purchase it.

Orange Backup produces nandroid backups while the phone is still running and able to do things. It’s compatible with ClockworkMod Backup, 4EXT, and Team Win’s Recovery Project. Backups can then be uploaded via FTP, Dropbox, or Google Drive. Backups can be scheduled for any time.

Orange Backup also comes with an application killer and uninstaller, supports rolling scheduled nandroid backups, and basically does most things a recovery can except restore backups.

Backup+

Cabon App Sync and Backup provides application and data syncing between multiple devices. Play Angry Birds on your tablet and pick up right where you left off on your phone. Works for rooted and unrooted devices, although unrooted will require plugging into a computer. Can sync via cloud storage, to devices on the same network, or to devices that can access the same computer. Very useful for nearly real-time backups of your non-cloud application data.

DataSync for root is a multi-direction app sync and backup that pre-dates Carbon App Sync and Backup by a few months. Unlike Carbon, it only works for rooted devices. It’s a fewer-frills application that just works for what it’s supposed to do. If you’re just wanting to sync one rooted device to another, this application is probably what you’re looking for.

Application management

Root App Delete allows you to freeze or uninstall applications that you don’t want. Allows you to disable background system services and uninstall pre-installed bloat. With over a million installs and a 4.5 star rating after 55,000 reviews, it’s top of the charts.

Greenify *ROOT* is an application that, instead of than freezing or uninstalling apps, allows you to pause them when they’re not running in the foreground. Greenifying an application doesn’t uninstall it or prevent it from functioning, but just prevents it from functioning when it’s not needed. Greenify tames applications with no risk other than potentially missing some synced data until the application is in the foreground.

Swiss army knife

ROM Toolbox. To list all the features this app has would take up about a page. The short features list are: complete app management, application and data backups, kernel control, ROM management/download/install, auto start manager, font installer, boot animation installer, CPU management, task killer management, and SD tweaker.

System Tuner. This is a task manager, CPU tuner, activity logger, terminal emulator, system tweaker, CPU monitor, and many others. System Tuner reports that it’s able to report real CPU temperature, rather than battery temperature like other apps on the market. I’m not sure how this is accomplished, or why that feat is considered awesome, but I thought I would point it out.

Tasker has some features which require root, although it as a whole does not. Trying to summarize Tasker in a line or two is like trying to tell someone why Zombo.com is amazing. Check out some of the Tasker pieces on Pocketables for more information on what you can and cannot do.

File / SD / Disk management

ES File Explorer – while not a root-requiring app, you can request that it request root access and then you have a file manager that allows reading and writing system and other partitions. Absurdly useful if you need to go in and edit your build.prop or want to poke around Android’s innards.

Undelete for Root Users allows you to recover deleted images and files from your SD card or internal storage. It also allows you to delete files in such a way that the files should not be recoverable by average users.

CPU control

SetCPU for Root Users. While CPU control is now a part of many other applications, back in the day before ROM Toolbox-style apps were available, this was it, and it worked great.It allows you to change speed, CPU governors, voltage control, create profiles for plugged in, too hot, low battery, etc.

Root frameworks

Xposed framework is an AOSP framework for ARM devices. One of the things you can do with the framework is download a module that allows you to set DPI for any application. That allows you to choose tablet mode for an app, or simply make the text look more to your liking for anything, There are many other modules available.

WiFi

WiFi Tether for Root Users is an application that allows you to set up a mobile hotspot using your phone’s EDGE/3G/4G data connection. It’s been banned by many carriers, so chances are you won’t see it in Google Play. However you can go to the application development page and install it on your own (it appears at least on Sprint for now).

WiFiKill is an application that allows you to find and kill a particular IP/MAC from your network while the application is running. It’s absurdly useful if you’re attempting to get someone to quit surfing the net and pay attention to people, or if you’re trying to claim their phone is buggy.

WiFi Pass Recovery & Backup backup and restore and view passwords for various WiFi spots you’ve been to.

Network

AFWall+ provides a firewall for various network states. Want to block Application_X when you’re on 3G but not 4G or WiFi? You can do that. Need to block connections to an application when you’re in a den of hacking eliteness? This is the application for you.

Shark for Root is a traffic sniffer for 3G and WiFi. You’ll need WireShark or something like that in order to make any use of the information this provides.

Orbot is an Android application that allows you to connect anonymously to the TOR network. This is generally enough to cover your tracks pretty well from any eavesdroppers. The application on non-rooted devices provides a proxy server, whereas on rooted devices it intercepts either all or by-application traffic.

It’s absurdly useful for browsing anonymously, wicked hard to track, but utterly and completely useless for torrent applications due to UDP – so don’t bother thinking about it.

dSploit is a quite featured hacking tool. You can see comments below on what it does.

DroidSheep is an ARP spoofer and allows you to capture and intercept data. It’s basically a hacking tool that allows you to capture login data if you’re on the same network as someone else.

Superuser apps

Note: Superuser applications allow other applications to request and run as root. If you have a superuser application installed on your device, do not download another one unless you know what you’re doing and how it’s going to affect your phone. The Superuser binary will be changed, which may leave your phone unrooted, and in a bad state.

Superuser by ChainsDD is what used to be the Superuser standard. As of this writing, it hasn’t been updated in nine months; however, that may be because the application works exactly how the author intended it to, rather than it not being supported any more. Allows basic Superuser grant/deny permissions.

SuperSU by Chainfire allows applications to run as specific users with root access, can grant temporary root, can be launched from the dialer, has PIN protection, and the auto-deny root countdown can be adjusted. It comes in both free, and Elite versions. While the Elite version is only $2.49, should you want to not be nagged about registering the application, you can disable the nag screen and enable the elite features from the configuration menu.

Superuser by ClockworkMod is the only completely open-source Superuser application on the market. This means that you can download, edit, and compile your own version if you want to. No more wondering if the other Superuser applications might have something sketchy built in. CWM’s Superuser also supports multiuser mode, manifest permission support, and has a proper tablet UX.

Miscellaneous

GMusicFS is an application that turns your Google Music account into a FUSE file system which enables third party applications such as Poweramp and PlayerPro to access and stream your music. Your kernel will need to support the FUSE filesystem in order to work, and currently that should be any Android 4 or above kernel.

Keyboard Manager allows you to set a keyboard based on the orientation of the device at the time the keyboard is needed. Like Swype in portrait mode but like Kii in landscape? This might be for you.

Market Helper allows user to change or fake their device information so they can download applications that may not be listed as compatible with their device, carrier, etc. It doesn’t touch your build.prop, and goes away after a reboot or clicking restore within the app.

Push Notification Fixer modifies a timeout variable and should theoretically get google push notifications up and working agian.

TakeControl is an application that allows your computer to take control of your phone as a virtual desktop extension.

Fastcharge / Force AC Toggle is a widget for Android that toggles power drain on a computer or unknown device’s USB port from 500mAh to 1000mAh or greater. Currently most phones charge at the lower rate when plugged into a computer or what they think is a computer (some cheap chargers).

It’s important to note that the widget requires a kernel that supports fast charge. This is not the case for all kernels, so you need to make sure you’ve got a kernel that supports it.

Screen Standby # Root is an application that enables you to kill the screen without putting the device in sleep or standby mode. This is incredibly useful if you’re wanting to stream audio from an application that turns off when the screen does, or if you want to save some battery life while you’re using HDMI/MHL to watch TV or movies.

Undelete for Root Users allows a person to recover a recently deleted file as long as it hasn’t been written over. It comes in both free and pay versions. The free version will only recover deleted images. The pay version which is $3.99 will recover anything.

LCDDensity for Root allows you to change the resolution on the fly of your device. The higher the resolution the smaller the text and the more things you can see on the screen.

GooManager is an app for rooted phones that seems to be most used to download and install custom recoveries, but can also download and flash ROMs that are hosed on the goo.im servers. In some instances you can also check for updates to your current ROM.

ADB Konnect allows root users to connect via ADB wirelessly. Many ROMs now have this feature built in, but if you need it for some reason it’s free and it does what it claims it will.

BusyBox is an application that includes a massive toolkit built into it. As some phones don’t contain things such as GZIP or find in their native install, BusyBox is a one-shot application that contains tons of utilities that other root applications (such as Orange Backup,) require.

It’s absurdly useful when dealing with different device brands and their not having the same layout, tools, etc as yours.

ROM Manager is one of the first apps most people run across and their first introduction to one of the widest-ranging developers on Android. It can download ROMs, flash recoveries, flash mods, and do all sorts of things. It gets rated low quite a bit usually due to third parties which post ROMs that are available for it not working properly, and even then it maintains over a four star rating on Google Play.

Screencast Video Recorder is an application that allows you to take video of what you’re doing on your phone. It’s useful for people who write blogs about ROMs and applications to create videos of what’s happening, and also for end-users to create video of what is going wrong in an application so a developer can see what the problem is and fix it rather than having to ask 300 questions.

The free version only works for 20 or so seconds, which allows you to see that it works on your device and purchase it, but not really get a feel for it.

LBE Privacy Guard is an application that allows you to select whether or not an app that requires a permission gets that permission. Often times an application requests permissions it doesn’t need to, sometimes just due to a coding and not malicious error. LBE allows you to allow an app to run but refuse it access to certain things.

I’ll stress this is a work in progress. As of now, there are less than 50 applications listed. Obviously this is nowhere near the number of unique and useful root applications out there and doesn’t even cover all of what we’ve written about on Pocketables in the past, or even all of what I have on my phone at the moment.

Easy steps to Hack/unlock your N73
Download the file and unzip to your pc.
Transfer the 4 files to your phone memory card.
install Secman v1.10.sis. When the installation is done, look in the Applications folder on your phone, and find SecMan. Open it and wait to load. Follow the instruction and it will auto reboot your phone.
Open it again and click on "Install Root Certificate". After that now Select turn platform security off.
Install X-plore v1.34 . Open X-plore. First start to configuration of xplore which can be found on:
Menu>tools>configuration Or by just pressing 0

Introduction:

Over the years, s60v2 phones are unable to support s60v3 applications. However, a program has been designed to help s60v2 run s60v3 applications. This program is Doc Os 9.

Materials:
a. Python full pack
b. SisBoom 2.31 and above
c. Doc OS 9.sis.

Procedures:
a. Download and install the above listed materials from upload/download section. However, Doc Os 9.sis must be installed to a memory card.
b. Run Doc Os 9.sis
c. Download and install any s60v3 applications
NB: It has been confirmed working on N72. Thus, N70 users should try it. It may work for them too.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE FROM OTHER TRICKS ?

Here, you have to configure settings on your handset. It is very simple. But if you made any small mistake, then the trick won't work for you. What you have to do now ?
Read and do the following correctly without any mistake.

FIRST KNOW WHAT TYPE OF DEVICE YOU HAVE

You may have NOKIA s40, Samsung JAVA devices, NOKIA s60, Android ( Samsung galaxy series, SONY Xperia, Micromax android devices, Karbonn android devices etc.) and other Java devices.

If you have NOKIA s40 Device (2690, c1, c2, X2, 6300 etc..), You have no option to specify PROXY on your access point settings. So what you do ?
You have to download the pre-configured access point and install it on your device. The GPRS settings is not in the form of a .JAR file it is in the form of a .PROV file. SoHow to install GPRS Settings on you device?
First Download the .PROV file to a phone ( your friend's phone or any.. ;p ).
Then send it to your phone via BLUETOOTH or INFRARED.
Now you will get configuration settings on your phone. Thats it !
Save that settings and set it as default for all apps.

Now if you have any other phone, What you do ??
If you have any other Devices except NOKIA s40, then you can create a new access point in your device. Go to settings » Network settings so on...
Just create a access point from network settings and give the following :

PORT : 80 APN : airtelgprs.com

and all other field blank !

Now download and install opera mini app given below. You can see it installing if you have successfully configured settings. Other wise, you can't !

Application Needed:
1. Image.png
2. Class editor
3. Calc4m

Procedures:
Step 1: Splash Embedding
1. Open class editor and locate and open the image you want to use as your new splash then press * and highlight from thebeginning till end of the page and Press#5 and #6 then choose copy and press back using the right soft key.
Note: Write down thebytesize of your image you see at the bottom of the page.
2. Locate and open v file and press #9 and type PNG then press ok and press # sign twice then press #5 and choose insert, now press left soft key and click save, now exit class editor.
Step 2: Computation
1. Open calc4m
Formula 1
Your image bytesize –1059 (4.3/4.4 default bytesize) = ={BANNED}x > press down twice andlong press # sign to get the hex value.
Formula 2
Original 4.3/4.4 hex value (30A8) your image hex value = ={BANNED}x
Note: You need to add your image hex value in each original hex value of 4.3 / 4.4 meaning you need to do this method 16x adding your image hexvalue to all the 16 hex values of 4.3 / 4.4.
Step 3: Changing hex
1. Open class editor and locate v file and press #0 then locate the hex you want to change
Note: All operamin hex always be in location 27 so if you didn’t find the hex bellow in your v file press 7 and type 27 the press ok and 6 then 4. You’ll see the Hex starter.

As I have already said few times, thanks to the our mighty FCA, S60 platform is truly open to anything and his platform hack have opened up numerous possibilities in the area of hacking the phone interface and making it more eye pleasant!! Now when the S60 3rd edition security is broken and when the ROM patcher is available the only real limit for phone customization is the edge of our imagination. There are bunch of talented young hackers around the Symbian Freak and you can expect much more cool hacks and patches to come shortly. Anyway, speaking about the hack, first of all it doesn’t patch the ROM it is the pretty simple method known from 2nd edition phones and the whole trick is moving the files from the ROM to C: drive and pointing phone to use these files instead of the original ROM files.

STARTUP ANIMATION

Here's how you could change your Start-up animation. YES! It's the way to get rid of the shaking hands!

1.First Enable CAPS OFF

2.Use File Browser and go to Z:resource pps

3.Copy the startup.mbm, startup.mif and the rsc file corresponding to your installed language (*.r01 = english, *.r03 = german, etc.) to C:resource pps

4.Now browse to C:resource pps and press '8' on the startup.rXX file. now you have the hex view of the file.

5.Scroll down to line 000050

6.change hex value '5A' which stands for 'Z' to '43', which will be 'C'.

7.After saving the file, on boot, device will look in C:resource pps for the Startup.mbm and use it!

8.CONFIRMED to work on FP1 phones: N82, N95, N95 8GB, E51, E60, E90 Not working on the 6120, 6290, 5700, N73, N80, N81

STARTUP SOUND

1.First of all Get the package of course!

2.Unpack there you will find 101F8763.txt and Startup.mp3

3.Put 101F8763 to С:/private/10202be9/101F8763.txt (create folder 10202be9 if doesn't exists)

4.ut Startup.mp3 to E:\Sounds\Simple\Startup.mp3

5.That's all now just restart your phone and you will have new and very unique start-up sound. you may edit Startup.mp3 file but remember it must not be longer than 10 sec !!!

If you have the problem with provided files than you'll have to do it manually.
1.Go to Z:/private/10202be9/ and copy 101F8763.txt

2.Put it С:/private/10202be9/101F8763.txt
