Why follow?

2011-05-11T13:03:00.000-07:00

After looking around the different blog tools and stats I found that I was getting a lot of unique page views while less follows. It didn't take long to realize why. Most people prefer to add blogs to morning coffee or bookmark them, this is how a lot of people keep track of blogs. I have a way I think more people will like though. It allows them to view blogs only when people post so you don't waste your time seeing the same thing each day. I want to show you google reader!

What is Google Reader

The picture above basically shows it all. It organizes your blogs and keeps track of whether you viewed the post or not. The is a nifty gadget located right on your blogs dashboard. To view a post simply hover over it, but if you want to comment just click the picture (middle-click to open in a new tab). Even better is that this app organizes the posts in which blog they belong to or you can just see the latest post. The only problem with this gadget is that you have to be in your dashboard to see if you have posts.

Keep track of unread posts with add-on

For everyone using chrome here is a way to see how many unread posts there are while browsing. With this extension you can prevent blog post build-up by reading blog entries 1-by-1. Google Reader notifier shows you how many unread posts you have and live-feeds them every 5-min.

As you can see in this picture I have 69 unread posts. Simply clicking the app will show me the most resents

Notice how the unread posts added up

Now I can read them quickly and easily. If there are lots of posts I can also simply open google reader and read them from there. I am unaware of an app for firefox yet but I will post it if I find one.

I hope you learned how following a blog is better then morning coffee/fresh start.

Sometimes I get scared when I see the people who are supposed to protect us do some really stupid things.

If I was that guy on the ground I would be really scared

Ace of spades-video

I though I would take it light to day and just play around with movie maker and try to film for future reviews. Since my hardrive is too slow to record LOL I decided to record Ace of spades. I added halo dialogue to make it more interesting too. Enjoy

Sounds from: http://halo.bungie.org/misc/h2dialogue.html and http://www.findsounds.com/

Brink-May 10th

2011-05-07T10:17:00.000-07:00

Brink is an upcoming First person shooter which features class based combat. Personally I loved the game Team fortress 2 and when I watch some of the brink videos it reminds me of Team Fortress 2. But even better brink added WAY more gameplay features such as mines that detonate once stepped off and more. Check out this vid!

Honestly my favorite thing is how you can step on a mine but still get it disarmed. I know I'm buying this game what about you?

Need a Proxy? Hotspot?

2011-05-06T14:39:00.000-07:00

I'm sure everyone was in a situation where they badly needed a proxy to avoid some IP ban. For those who have been proxy hunting everyone knows the hardest thing to do is find the perfect proxy. Well search no more because I have the perfect proxy for you!

What is a Proxy?

For those who have not heard yet a proxy is basically a web server (website) in which you search the web through. So think of a proxy server being an internet browser on a friends computer. You would search the internet with a completely different IP address.

An IP address is like your computers internet address. Its commonly used to get your general location and to see how often someone from that network visits a particular site.

What is Hotspot shield?

Hotspot shield is just another proxy that you download onto your computer. So now you are on your friends computer to surf the web. No need to lose all your saved data/websites to search under a proxy. Since this is program based all your outgoing connections will be covered under the proxy. This is a reason why Hotspot shield gets the lead on other proxies.

How do I install it?

The installation is simple and fast too. Just follow these simple instructions:

First head to the main website
Get the latest download copy from a mirror.
Now open the install .exe which should look like so:

4. Click the .exe and now you should be prompted on a security warning. The file is safe so "Run" it

5. Next it will download the complete proxy. Download it anywhere as this is not the actual program.

6. Now the program should be downloading. After that all you have to do is keep pressing next

How do I use it?

Now that it installed it should be easy to get started. Another thing I love about this proxy is about how easy and effective it is to use.

For options it should be in your hidden icons here:

Just right-click it to connect. When you click connect it should open your browser and bring you to this page:

This gives basic info on connection status and allows you to connect/disconnect from the proxy server. Another way to judge status is to check the icons in the "Hidden Icons" for windows.

= Connected

= Connecting

= Dis-connected

Wait! How do I know my IP changed?

Head over to http://www.whatismyip.com/ to find out how your IP address changed. Also if you want a new hotspot IP just dis-connect then re-connect.

Ace of Spades

2011-05-04T15:54:00.000-07:00

Have you every heard of minecraft? Chances are you have, but for those who don't know, Minecraft is an extremely popular block placing, base building game. Now who has heard of Black ops? Chances are you heard of it or at least know it as a FPS. Take these two games and what you get is... Ace of Spades(AOS).

Ace of Spades is a super fun exciting FPS where you have to shoot the enemy team, build defensive structures, destroy enemy structures, while attacking and defending the intel. Sounds pretty exciting huh? Well... IT IS!

What specifically is AOS?

After reading my short intro you get a little taste of what it is. Ace of Spades as mentioned is a First-person shooter(FPS) where the main objective of the game is to capture the enemy intel. You must choose at the start one of the two teams: Blue or Green. However at the same time you must structure your own defenses to defend your own intel. The map is randomly generated so each game changes with each server you join. Currently there is no Singleplayer so all battlefields happen online.

How should I start?

The game is pretty self explanatory but since it is online players have generated special tactics. First I will start of by explaining the tools. Each Item has unique properties so be sure to read carefully.

This is the shovel. The shovel works like anything from any other game. Hold your left-mouse button to remove blocks. Here comes the trick. The shovel removes the block your cross-hairs are hovering over AND the block above/below. Use the shovel for creating trenches by digging the middle block.

Next basic tool is the pickaxe. Just hold left-mouse and hover over the block you want to destroy. The pickaxe works nothing like a shovel. The pickaxe works by taking health of a block. The more hits the pickaxe does on a block the darker the block gets. Then after 5 hits the block is destroyed and added to the counter at the bottom left. The counters max is 100.

This block is very basic. Just left-click to place a block on where your cross-hairs are. Right-click for your block to change colors to the block where your cross-hairs are. To manually select color use arrow keys. You may only have a max of 100 blocks and blocks may only be replenished at Medical tent or by destroying blocks with pickaxe.

This is your basic weapon and pretty self explanatory. Just aim and shoot with left-mouse click. Right-click to zoom in (right-click again to zoom-out). Then when your bullets get low press R to reload. To re-fill ammo head back to Medical Tent.

This is also basic, its a grenade! Just hold the left mouse button to cock the grenade, then release the mouse to throw the grenade. WARNING: It will explode in your hand/mid air so don't hold it for too long.

Key Structures/items!

Like most FPS's today there is an objective. In this case the objective is the Intel brief case. These are 2 Major structures crucial to playing the game.

First we have the most important Item. This may look like a briefcase but actually it is your teams Intel. On the map(m) your intelligence and the enemy intelligence is marked with their team color. So for example Blue Intel look like ◘. After lintel is captured enemy players are marked on the map for about 1 minute.

This is what I call the Medical tent. The Med tent replenishes your ammo, blocks, health, grenades, and also will capture the enemy intel. Its wise watch it as many enemies will throw grenades to bury it underground.

Tutorial Tuesday - Adding/changing read more

2011-05-03T12:00:00.000-07:00

Staying on-topic can be very tough at times so I decided to dedicate Tuesday to a day where I can be off-topic. This tutorial Tuesday I'm gonna show all you other bloggers out there (especially those following me) how to add a "Read More>>" option.

Basic Way

Adding the simple "Read More>>" Is very simple to do. Just simply start writing a post and click the "Insert jump break" on the toolbar as shown in picture.

Pressing that will add in a symbol which goes from left to right looking something like this:

Now wherever you see that jump break, when a user is viewing blogs on your home page everything below

the jump break will be hidden and only the words will remain.

Advanced Way

The advanced way is not much harder then the Basic Way but does require you to edit HTML code. I suggest you make a backup of your template before we move on.

Now with the backup complete we may start!

You should still be in "Design" and "Edit HTML" tab

2. You should see this box full of confusing things. Now make sure "Expand Widget Templates" is checked

3. Search for the following code (windows users use control + F):

/* Variable definitions
====================

4. Then paste in:

<Group description="Read More" selector=".jump-link"> <Variable name="rm.font" description="Font" type="font" default="normal normal 12px Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif" value="normal normal 12px 'Trebuchet MS',Trebuchet,Verdana,sans-serif"/> <Variable name="rm.color" description="Color" type="color" default="#f9f9f9" value="#eeeeee"/> <Variable name="rm.h.color" description="Hover Color" type="color" default="#eeeeee" value="#eeeeee"/> </Group> <Group description="Read More Background" selector=".jump-link"> <Variable name="rm.bg.color" description="Color [www.betatemplates.com]" type="color" default="#000000" value="#000000"/> </Group>

5. Now find:

]]></b:skin>

6. Then right before that paste:

{ float: right; font: $(rm.font); background: $(rm.bg.color); } .jump-link a, .jump-link a:visited { color: $(rm.color); } .jump-link a:hover { color: $(rm.h.color); }

Now when you head over to "template designer" you will have 2 new tabs for customizing your "Read More>>"

LOL - Have you heard about it?

2011-05-02T17:29:00.000-07:00

League of Legends (LOL) is a free game based of the extremely popular DOTA mod. In this blog entry today I'm going to explain what LOL is, how to play it, and show you a video of my gameplay style.

What Is DOTA?

DOTA was originally a warcraft 3 mod that became arguably more popular then the game itself. As a result many games were mad with similar play styles, LOL is one of them. Whats great is LOL is free to play and all champions can be gained by simply playing the game.

How do I get LOL

To get LOL just simply head over to this link on their website where you can Download a installer. Launching the .exe will open up the installer. Choose a download path (I chose desktop as example) and press next.

Now the actual game will download. Note: Its a big game but the installer saves its progress!

While Its downloading I suggest you set-up an account here! Its completely free and your account name WILL NOT be your in-game name.

Once you finish all the training I suggest you play against AI to find what champion will be your favorite

Gameplay

So now we can play! The game is very self explanatory but hopefully these picture will make it crystal clear. After you go through the steps and start the game this is the first screen you will see.

Here is where you get to wait for your game to begin. Once all summoners get to 100% or summoning the game will begin. NOTE: What I like to do is quickly alt-tab and surf the web until I hear the game say "Welcome". The UI can be a bit confusing to someone who just started the game so allow me to clear it up.

This is your collection of items. What I have bought is a health potion.
This is where you see the amount of gold (or "gamepoints") is. Clicking the will open up a buy menu.
These are your character stats, keep track of what bonuses you have. Black 3: This is where you have your abilities. Each level you get to choose 1 new ability to upgrade/learn.
These are summoner abilities you pick at the beginning of the match.
This is your map. It shows info about where enemies are/where your team mates are.
This is where you learn/upgrade an ability choose wisely :)
This is general data about how are you doing in game, keeping track of: Time spent, Kills, Deaths, Assists.
This is a total of team kills and enemy kills. This gives an idea about how the game is going.
This is general info on team mates.

Now you have a character you like, knowledge of the game, and hopefully an idea on how to play the game. But starting a class is always hard especially when you have a giant menu like so:

Thankfully this menu has great categorization and also recommends items for beginners. However these recommended items are what you should be generally getting. So what I do is head over to Mobafire for great build ideas. Remember the only way to get good is to PRACTICE!

Where is that video you promised?

Video will be uploaded tomorrow. I just need a good recorder feel free to offer one in the comments.

Topic change or expansion?

2011-05-02T11:58:00.000-07:00

I've been just thinking about it... Making a blog just about games can be in-fact very boring. So I'm considering expanding my topic to computers in general. I plan to have videos uploaded every so often explaining new games I found but as well talk about computer techniques. Visit the poll to cast your vote!

Also Expect a League of Legends walk through by me to go up in the evening!

PC Gaming

2011-05-01T08:03:00.000-07:00

For my first official blog post I would like to inform you of PC gaming. The reason is for all my games I use a PC and most of the games I will be blogging about will not be available on consoles.

First I would like to get rid of all those preconceived ideas that PC gaming is: Expensive and complicated. These are both untrue and mostly based on facts from the 1900's.

PC Gaming is Expensive

This is a fact commonly thrown around when people first heard the words "Pc Gaming". IF you look at the picture below you can see a modest pc (can play most games at decent frames) Is about $100 more then a console (controllers included).

Go to the guide here!

So if you take your old pc which you most likely use for work and sell it you will end up with a fast work pc and gaming pc.

PC gaming is complicated

This myth comes from the old times of DOS. DOS was basically just words in which you typed to get to places. In this time there was no need for a mouse unless you played games otherwise everything was typed.

Example of a DOS OS (similar to windows cmd)

As you could imagine this was a very boring operating system and also very complicated and also required you to memorize commands. But the bigger complication was that games were required to be installed manually. So you would have to sit there typing out commands to copy files over to your PC. If you made a mistake chances are you wouldn't know until you tried to start the game.

Installing Call of Duty Black Ops through steam

Today PC gaming has come along way. Now we just press next and the hard work is done for us. Now we just click instead of type. Today PC gaming is simple.

Grand opening
