Henry Winkler Honored by Pacific Pioneer Broadcasters

2016-02-23T23:10:00.003-08:00

On January 29th, 2016, "The Fonz of Happy Days" an icon of American television, Henry Winkler was praised at a celebrity luncheon held by Pacific Pioneer Broadcasters at the Sportsman Lodge in Studio City, CA. He was honored with the Art Gilmore Career Achievement Award. It was exciting to attend and be around groups of creative people who had made numerous contributions to radio & television.

Not only is Henry Winkler a wonderful performer, but he is also a director, producer and a children's book writer. He has written 31 novels for kids including the Hank Zipzer series.

Gary Marshall, Vin DiBona, were among the special guests who shared personal stories & memories about their time with Mr. Winkler. Carol Leifer, Mark Feuerstein, & Jason Ehrlich, also highlighted Mr. Winkler. Then Alan Perris, the President of PPB, presented the achievement award to the honoree Henry Winkler.

During the program PPB shared messages from: Ron Howard, unable to attend, had a cool video message for Mr. Winkler. Marion Ross, who was performing out of town, had sent a letter in which she said in tongue in cheek that 'if she was there Mr. Winkler would only chase her around and try to kiss her.' It was an event filled with good humor of celebratory spirit.

I left the event thinking I want to be invited to have candy by the nicest person in Hollywood. If I get to work with Mr. Winkler one day I surely can hope.

Resistance

2015-12-11T22:59:00.004-08:00

When I first heard about the screening, I thought I'd check out the documentary film Resistance to be more educated about antibiotic Resistance. The event took place in North Hollywood at the Laemmle Theatre on December 10th, 2015.

The film was introduced by Ernie Parks, one of the producers of the film. The film was very informative.
I think that regular people just like me who may not be aware of all types of medical problems resulting from resistance to antibiotics would benefit from learning from this film.

The film interwove people's stories with the facts to give the viewers a balanced look at antibiotic resistance.
Prior to the film, I knew less than 1%, probably that it was not good for livestock that we consume to be on antibiotics for no reason. The film gives an indepth look at how overuse of antibiotics in livestock and by humans(when prescribed) can effect humans.

The filmmaker Michael Graziano, actor-activist Ed Begley Jr, chief medical office LAC-USC Brad Spellberg, and activist & co-founder of the Niles Project Carol Moss were part of the post-screening panel discussion moderated by Valentina Valentini.

There was a reception at the Fat Dog sponsored by Applegate company after the screening. Meat items served had not been treated by antibiotics.

A One Man Band

2014-08-26T21:03:00.000-07:00

San Gabriel Valley, CA

I was walking across a shopping center on Saturday the 23rd, and I heard music. I looked around and saw a gentleman playing a guitar. A couple of kids went up to him and put money in the hat. The music was nice. I went up there and put some coins in. And took some photos in case I wanted to do a write up. Because I really haven't come across anyone playing music around shopping centers in these parts. He had other instruments set up as well.

The performer is the classic country The One Man Band Charles L. Angel. What made me want to highlight him & write about my experience was the note that he had on his guitar case(see photo below)...

a glimpse:

Additonal Note:
I stayed and listened to couple of the songs and he had a pretty good voice/sound. I enjoyed his performance of The Clown popularized by Coway Twitty, and a nice opportunity for me to find out about the songs because I liked the lyrics. He had his business card in the case, so I picked one up and got some more information:He, also, does one song sing a grams and you can contact him at horseshoechuck@aol.com if you want him to play at BBQs & Birthdays.

Editors' Prime Cuts

2014-08-11T21:13:00.001-07:00

North Hollywood, CA

The 8th Annual Prime Cuts on Saturday, August 9th, 2014 included some of the best working editors in show business on a panel moderated by the creative Fred Savage. The event was hosted by Scott Boyd, A.C.E. and Stuart Bass, A.C.E. Had a chance to hear how these editors began their craft, how they developed their style & how they found a passion for editing. I dabble in experimental editing, therefore, I think of myself as a mega fan of editors.

a glimpse:

Moderator:

Fred Savage, actor, director and producer of television and film

Panelists:

Chris McCaleb - Breaking Bad
Shannon Mitchell, ACE - Orange is the New Black
Jason Bielski - Jimmy Kimmel Live
Skip MacDonald - Fargo
Kent Beyda, ACE - Billy Crystal: 700 Sundays
John Duffy, ACE - COSMOS: A SpaceTime Odyssey
Emily Hsuan - Naked and Afraid

Side note:

It was awesome to hear how they got their big break in editing. Only thing: I forgot to ask Mr. Bielski to put in more shots of Mr. Kimmel in his underwear as Mr. JimKim himself told me, he does his best work in his underwear.

Vice on HBO

2014-08-10T13:30:00.000-07:00

Hollywood, CA

HBO screened four segments from their news and information show Vice on Tuesday, August 5th, 2014. I think that the show brings to the audience aspects of situations everyday people don't get to see or hear about of occurances & concerns around the world and in our very own backyard. Some segments seem to take the news team of cast & crew to dangerous places. They present what is happening with respect and a human touch.

Vice is nominated for three Emmys. The production team was at the Cinefamily Silent movie theatre in Hollywood for the screening. Team members-cinematagropher Jake Burghart & his fellow director of photography Jerry Ricciotti was there along with Chris, executive producer BJ Levin and more.

Note:
This was a great opportunity for those of us who hadn't seen the show to view it. And am glad that I attended. The camera work, overall presentation & the production value is amazing. The impact of the content of the show on the mind was in depth and gives the viewers a chance to identify with people who are facing difficult situations. In admiration with seeing the show for the first time, I later tweeted:
#Vice has good content - well presented & informative - things everyday peeps rarely get to see #doculicious: thought provoking -tj
