Happy almost Valentines Day!

The PFATT Market Place has just posted, (10th of each month) , and for February I have 2 "Art To Wear" assemblage pieces ,

both featuring enameled hearts.

I love the wonderful new book out on enameling I got by Barbara Lewis,

"Painting with Fire" .

I am even in love with the title !

I read it through cover to cover the day I received it (Reagan has very long tumbling team practices :)

Of course, this is my take on enameled pieces,

that I have incorporated into my art to wear assemblages.

I love the way I could get the white to have a very old feel to it with the grey.

And this deep ruby is awesome .

No other color was needed to produce this aged look.

I was so excited about this process.

The enameling element is just the right additive I needed to add another dimension in my assemblage pieces . For more info on "Painting with Fire" you can go to Barbara's blog ;

More goodies to play with!
I have been adding some really fun supplies to create with in the Etsy shop.
These are 24 gauge copper sheets , etched with beautiful patterns.

This is a really easy gauge to work with, and you can easily cut it down into pendants , charms, earrings, add them to leather cuffs, layer with other metal, stamp, etc. the possibilities are absolutely endless !
I will be adding some more this weekend, as I finish them.
We are supposed to get a few inches of snow tonight , so I will be trying a few more fun patterns :)

Also, I will be adding another fun pattern to the

popular "etched bullet findings" in my shop .

Look for them to be added some time this weekend as well

Was she from the North?
Was she from the South ?
It matters not , love has no geographical ties.

There,
where he left her ,
she waited patiently.

This "hope" necklace was created with that feeling in mind.

Good Monday Morning!
I have a couple of new things to share, and also some details on one of my upcoming workshops!

Metal Journal Exploration

In this workshop we will be on a metal working exploration journey .

You will learn how to create your metal journal, and create your own beautiful cover that reflects your creative vision. All journals will look completely different , a reflection of the artist creating them. Are you feeling steam punk? Romantic? It is all up to you. You will also learn assemblage of your metal journal , create a working piano style hinge , and how to attach it, fuse beautiful embellishments onto your creation, make metal head pins to hold extra treasures . In this workshop we will be using both torches and irons . A full project kit is included with the class.

All Tools are available for student use.

If you already have a small butane torch, and would like to bring it so that you do not have to wait to share that is fine, I will also have some to share in class.

The only thing students need to bring are a cheap set of jewelry pliers (round nose , flat, and cutters ) that can get ooky. That's it!

April 12-15. 2012

Jan -March is busy , but also my time to organize myself for the rest of the years "to do list".

Also , time to stretch myself in the studio. "Exploration" is my key phrase for this time of year.

Although, this usually only gets to happen at 2am these days it seems lol. I am convinced that I need about 6 more hours in everyday would be a good thing.

I just new when I saw this awesome gem type /tintype that it needed to be a Steampunk piece. I just love the hat!! The charms are antique clock gears from my stash , on sterling head pins.

It will be available on my Etsy later today .

New Workshops are Now Available!

Well, we had a whole lot of " Hoopla" going on at Christmas time!

Famlies, weddings, new carpets :) .

In all of the goings on ,

2 of my 150+ year old Staffordshire Tranferware plates in the dining room

perished in the shuffle of things,

as it were.

I have collected pre 1865 transferware for many years.

Well,

certainly no sense in crying over spilt 150 year old Transferware!

I created this piece from one of the beautiful center focal sections of the plate ,with castles in the backround.

The piece features rhinestone rhondels, beautiful Aquamarine stones (these are so yummy), and a lovely
metal Frozen Charlotte! She will be available later tonight in my Etsy store.

And guess what?
I will be teaching one of my broken china jewelry workshops here in the mid west this spring at Artiscape ! Classes just opened up yesterday . Click HERE for the link to the broken china jewelry class :)

And , guess what else?

"Casting Call" Charlottes in Metal

I will also be teaching this class on how to cast metal Frozen Charlottes, and make them gorgeous focal points on this beautiful rosary beaded necklace (above).
This year is going to be so much fun , I am excited to start it off at Artiscape in Columbus Ohio April 12-15

Technology Isn't Always the Best Option

The other night I was headed up to bed , to sketch out some new ideas, and I told my husband how nice it would be it I could do quick sketches on my Iphone ( i LOVE my Iphone).
"On that little tiny screen?" was his reply (he has a droid ). Well,often I find that I do not have my notebook with me, and am grabbing for anything to jot ideas down on. In the past, I have been know to use crayon, eye liner , glitter pen, napkins, receipts, and paint samples. Then, if I don't glue it right away into my journal , it has the potential to get lost in the shuffle. Or , I don't write it down at all, it still gets lost (in my head! lol).
"Well I am sure that there is an APP for that," he said.
I was determined , and found a very cute one at that!
But......

WHAT IN THE WORLD? LOL
No matter how you slice it , drawing with your finger on a tiny screen is not easy, or in my case legible ! LOL
After about 3 attempts , I gave up the ship, and came to the conclusion that a pencil was much more precious that I had previously thought,( and I already think very highly of my pencils :)
My son told me an Apple stylus would solve the issue , but I am afraid I might quickly lose that as well, as there is not a place for it on the phone (to hold it that is).
This was the piece that the sketch was supposed to be of !! LOL .

I think that I had better stick to good old fashioned paper and pencils for now :)
I have just added this piece , and several vintage supply goodies to the Etsy store :)

Here it is already the 9th of January!
I am just beginning to settle in to the normal swing of things here . My oldest son was married 4 days after Christmas, and a beautiful event it was. As a result , I was able to have my Father in from California for Christmas and a good long visit, and my Mother in Law in from California as well the day after Christmas until just a couple of days ago.
Jeffrey and Sara are moving into their new apartment this week, College and elementary schools are back in session :) and then I am dreaming of some good quality studio time! I am very excited about this. I loved all of our festivities, visiting with dear family, and Holiday Hoopla, but this girl is ready to get back to the studio.

the Valentine Elephant will be my first offering for 2012 on PFATT (Primitive Folk Art Trinkets and Treasures) updated on the 10th (that's tomorrow!) of every month at 10am pacific time.

Both Valentino and Ophelia are made with German Mohair, and have been given a time worn, well aged look, which is definitely my favorite part of the process when creating my dolls and animal friends.

Amazing Metal Work To Show You

My oldest Son came home from the Navy last week. I wrote before a little about his medical issues. After the fractures kept reaccuring in his legs, they also found a tumor inside his Tibia. Not to worry , they sent him to a cancer specialist , and was tested over time to make sure it was not growing etc. They did not want to drill into his bone as it would further damage his leg. They did come to the conclusion however that this very athletic young man, would chronically keep re fracturing his legs from now on in training. He encountered his desired path taking a serious turn that he had not planned on.

Now he is home, honorably discharged , and he is still getting married as they had planned at the end of this month. There is a company that is hiring him while he goes back to school, but the backround checks and paperwork will take a few weeks unfortunately , and he is a little ancy to say the least LOL.

So his Mom said to him "why don't you create a welded piece and put it on Etsy!"
On What? was the response I received (how can you have never heard of this wonderful addicting place LOL)

Well , after searching through my stashes in the studio (only the manly drawers only haha) and getting his welding machine all tuned up out in the garage, he made this...

A steampunk metal work" jewelry holder" assemblage with working clock gears!

Yes, all of the gears on this piece turn, and the top ones if rotated, actually rotate the large one
in the center!! The ring holders are old bells from a Vintage Big Ben alarm clock. Everything on it is vintage accept for the steel base that he forged for it. Its so perfect to hold steampunk , soldered , metal work jewelry .

Ok , I know I am a proud mom , but seriously , I thought this was Awesome !!!

This is from the little boy who said for years all he wanted to do was Pitch for the
New York Yankees and be an artist.

Well his pitching arm left him a couple of years ago, but I think the art is still quite alive in his heart.

Having fun on Black Friday?
Well hopefully by now you are home from the hustle and bustle and able to have a cup of coffee and relax!
I myself am just not a good shopper.
I like to hear the stories regaled from friends about there adventures and conquests, but I myself would rather sit home quietly and create with a warm cup of mocha latte . I know really weird, but I am not one for traffic, lines, and mobs trying to get something there are only 5 of lol. I know I know thats the thrill of it. I am back from the "Merry Makers " Folk Art show and had a lot of fun. Reagan was so excited that she got to come with me , as she was not able to come to either of the Country Living Fairs. Our great "girls weekend" together also included seeing "Wicked " yesterday in Cincinnati with my soon to be daughter in law Sara , and we all absolutely LOVED it ! So , I included my favorite song on the playlist for this week :)

This show, I was actually able to go around Saturday a bit and take some photos to show you.

Cheryl Kuhn of "Small Stories Studio" was there with her wonderful assemblage creations.
This was my very favorite piece! I just loved all of the elements in it, and of course I love the doll and her musical body!

These ladies were my lovely neighbors the "Pink Eyed Sissies" and some of their pretty whimsical repurposed Holiday necklaces in vintage optometrist lenses !

Here is the Lovely Lori Ann Corelis who also did the web site for Merry Makers show. Wow ! Since the first time I saw her creations in a magazine years ago , I have always thought her animal friends were simply Magical.

And here is Lurena from Tattered Moon and her oh so fabulous gals!
Each one just had their own sparkling personality. You can catch her in "Prims" right now.

OK . Since these fun ladies were all so kind enough to pose for me, at the end of the show when everyone is a little tuckered out , I will include the one photo of me that Reagan took lol. This is Lorena and I, in Lorena's wonderful booth. I have been known to cut myself out of photos and just post the friend I posed with, as I myself am not overly fond of photos either LOL. So here it is thank you ladies!

Well I am off to get ready for the Holiday Web sale Dec 5!

Today I would like you to meet Lily!

Lily loves to play dress up , and sit in pretty tea cups!

She also likes to eat sugar cookies with friends.

Lily chose this 1930s doll dress from my collection ,and it fit her oh so perfectly!

Lily also fancies jewelry. This is her very own necklace with a vintage photo of a little girl and her large teddy bear.
Lily is a 5 way jointed, German Mohair, very huggable, bunny approx 6 1/2" tall. she was created by hand (by me :) is signed , and is wearing a handmade doll dress from the 1930s.
She will be available for adoption tomorrow November 10th , along with Amy( see Amy's story on the last post), On PFATT
at 1pm eastern 10am pacific time.

I will be attending the Merry Makers Folk Art Show next weekend in Columbus Ohio in conjunction with the Springfield Antique Show! This will be my last show for 2011. Amy the Lost Christmas Elf

Quickly after Halloween , I find myself completely caught up in Christmas! I know its early , but I sort of celebrate Thanksgiving as an extension of my Christmas spirit ! LOL. Today I would like to share Amy, and her story with you.

Amy was once one of Santa’s helpers long long ago. Her main job at Christmas time was loading the sleigh, and insuring the safety of all the toys aboard. She loved her job , because she knew it would bring smiles and joy on all of the little girls and boys faces on Christmas morning.

Then, one Christmas eve, a doll for Chrissy Ann B., somehow toppled out of Santas bag as Santa himself was going down the chimney of another child. “Oh No!” cried Amy , who always rode along to insure all the toys were safe. She hurried down the side of the large sleigh, and dove after the small porcelain doll.

The doll fell into the rain gutter , and Amy climbed through the snow after her. She was able to recover the small doll, but unfortunately Santa, in a hustle and bustle of a hurry on his busiest of nights, called his reindeer and flew off, not knowing Amy had left the safety of the warm sleigh.
Amy , cold and shivering in the night, was able to squeeze through a small hole leading into the attic of the house with the doll in hand. Not wanting to be discovered, she slipped into an old steam trunk that had been used in the attic for storage and long forgotten by the family.

Many years and a few generations later, the family cleaned out the attic, and found Amy and her doll in the old steam trunk. Amy , after being discovered, conveyed her tale to the nice family . She was very relieved after all of this time just to be out of the trunk.
Unfortunately for Amy again, this nice family was moving away,and were unable
to take Amy with them. She is now looking for a new adventure and a new
adoptive home. She likes smiles, tea, other dolls and toys , and an occasional snicker doodle (she is an elf after all!)

Amy is one of 2 dolls , I will be sharing on PFATT (Primitive Folk Art Trinkets and Treasures Group). I will be sharing her friend Lily with you tomorrow here on the blog :-)

Both dolls will be available for adoption on PFATT on Thursday November 10 at 1pm eastern 10 am pacific.

Happy Halloween! Some New Goodies Added

Happy Halloween to Everyone!!

These are a few photos taken with my Iphone at Country Living Fair in Atlanta Georgia. I decided that , although I love my IPhone wholeheartidly, I do not like the camera, and will stay with my Nikon SLR from now on. But, when I went to use it this week it wouldn't turn on .. EEEK!

Luckily the good people at Best Buy put me at ease that the battery was toast , and it just needed a $55.00 replacement battery! Still, a sigh of relief! I did decide while I was there however that a Cannon T3i is on my ultimate favorite wish list! If any one has one , please let me know how you like it!!!

How totally cute is this? These 2 ladies Donna and Sandra, bought the last 2 of my Vintage Doll Cuffs in Atlanta, and posted for this ultra cute photo . They had just met each other in the booth! This show was so much fun. I met so many wonderful, fun people. There was so much to see and do, I definately look forward to next year!

I would like to sincerely thank everyone who joined me last night to kick off the web sale, and giveaway results . Especially those ladies that stayed up after their bed times for it on the East Coast time! Thanks ladies! You all made it a lot of fun :)
