Mac Attack Mother's Day

For Mother's Day my hubby surprised me with a Mac computer.
Grateful , and excited yes. But, I have no idea how to work this darn thing of course. And, am "clinging on for life " to my old dinosaur as he puts it.

"Cold Turkey is the only way to go he says. "unplug the dinosaur" !
I can't do it.
I need baby steps .
What if I can't find something? ...I know where everything is on the dinosaur .
What if I don't know how to do a simple task, and I need it done fast?....I know how to accomplish it on the dinosaur , (unless it is having a bad day ,and acting up which is very common lately).

Mom just do everything exactly backwards and you'll be fine my son says. WHAAAA? Who the heck thought of that brilliant idea?

Sooo, they are side by side on my desk for now. The dinosaur , and the sleek pretty stallion.

I loaded the pics with the dinosaur , and typed it out on the pretty stallion :)))

Also on Mother's day I decided I would like to have a play date with my children.

Of course my idea of a fun play date with mom ,

included fire , chemicals , soldering irons,

and a big creative fun mess.

We made small wall hangings, or can go on door as well.

I showed them the basic idea of what we were doing , and

how to do it. But, then let them come up with their own

spin on how they wanted to design it.

Reagan does very well with the soldering iron. We don't let

her use the torch just yet.

I took these before the pictures

were inside the bezels. I wanted them to pour the ice resin at home so they

could let it set and dry without getting in the car with them. This one

was my daughter in laws. She had never done anything like that before!

Beautiful, I Loved it!

I had nothing to do with this , it was all her. Accept

a tiny bit of torching that her brother helped with.

My son Jeffrey's.

He always amazes me . He loves to weld things , and is an engineering major ,

so Mom's torches and irons are small potatoes lol. I loved his design though.

I made my hanging for my Mother in Law.

Wish she could have been creating with us too, but she is

in California.

We had a lot of fun creating and experimenting, visiting, and sharing.

A Wonderful Crazy Weekend

It all started here...

In a little town in Michigan called Dimondale. In a charming
little store called SmittenDust!

With these three lovely ladies.
Dusty Dehaven, (owner of Smitten Dust) ,
Kari McKnight Holbrook , and Jen Crossley.
They invited Reagan and I to come up for some fun , and set up a little of our shop for the
weekend at Smitten Dust.

I wasn't at all sure I could get ahead of myself here work wise, but I put it in 4 th gear (that is fast right?).
Sometimes I don't know what to do if I am not working constantly. Maybe because I
work predominantly from home, I don't possess an off switch. I am sure a lot, or most women
probably feel that too. But, mine is too the point where I can't really even go leisurely shopping ,but rarely.
It's a sickness maybe :)

So to my husbands shock and surprise ,2 days before I announced,

" We're going to do it! "
ROAD TRIP!

And, off we went .

Mother and daughter weekend with friends.

We had the best time with a whole bunch of wonderful ladies that came for the weekend.

It was very nice meeting these wonderful ladies ,

especially Jane and Susan front left.

Jane and I shared some jumping jump rings Sunday :)

We did Kari's totally awesome
"Delectable Doodles and Fantastic Fonts", and "Tempted by Tape workshops".
and by the way Kari has a brand new dvd out called "Backrounds to Bindings"!
Reagan has been practicing her
journaling alphabets ever since we got home.
She worked very hard in class.
I felt like a slacker!

We did Jen's awesomely wonderful " Little Bag" workshop on Sunday.

It was a such a super fun workshop!

Dusty's Husband fixed absolutely delightful lunches
for all of the ladies every day!

Oh my gosh,
Once again I was the slacker in Jen's class too!
No, really!

Apparently I was a little tired ,

and caused some trouble with flying jump rings among other

things!

Ugh

So sorry Jen .

Reagan and I had a truly magical time .

I am so glad we were able to go and visit.

I am in what I call my "plucking" mode.

It starts usually around early

March and progresses steadily until mid June. This is when I have huge "to do " lists in front of me and I "pluck " away at them every day . But instead of getting shorter, and having a nice tidy satisfied feeling of completion, they have a tendency to grow longer, a lot longer.

I am sure many of you have these as well.

So instead of being happy because my list is completed , or shorter, or any light at the end of said tunnel , I must be content to be excited about with how much I was able to "pluck" that day !

The question today was ,

what pretty pictures am I going to show you ,as I have not had time to make any new goodies?

Well , not very pretty, but the ugly truth!

My steady diet for the last two weeks.

Absolutely horrible for me, but necessary .

I feel like I want to go for a run, and to bed, at the same time.

Reagan actually asked me yesterday, what would happen if I ran out?

Oh honey ,we can't even go there ....

And, on a much funner note, what are we doing in the

Fly Handmade Journal Exploration online workshop this week?

We are etching beautiful pieces of metal,

adding patinas,

and creating awesome faux leather covers for our journals!

And, guess what we will be doing next week?

Making the molds, and Casting these beautiful pewter heart bezels!!!

Just a peek into my little neck of the woods.

My little room is the smallest room in the house now, but with the most sunshine :)

The really smelly , messy, big stuff , I still do down stairs in the basement.

Oh no, it would have to be way smellier than these . This is the fun stuff!

Reagan and I watched the "dead files" a few weeks ago on an episode about

dolls. I won't even go there.

There are no lost souls in my dolls LOL! These guys were either buried in Germany and never owned,

Loved and cared for by sweet little girls who treasured them , or handmade by me :)

That show scares the ba geebies out of us , we can't watch it anymore!

Artiscape Workshops, and a Huge Giveaway!

I am back from Artiscape!

Back from Artiscape and just a few days left until "Fly " online

workshop begins! Whew! Where to begin...

We were all busy little bees in Friday's

"A Mother's Love Workshop"

Dawn and I

Little ms. Reagan took photos for me and was my

very helpful assistant during the workshops, and
all weekend.

She knew we were all hard at work, and didn't want to

interrupt so

she snapped away .

I wasn't aware at all when she was taking photos , so I

didn't know what she had taken until Sunday. She did a pretty

good job of photographing all of these beautiful ladies hard at work!

Happy Tuesday , Things to Share!

I had quite a few things in the "almost complete" stage, and wanted to post on Friday,

but it turned out

to be one of those days where nothing turns out quite the way you envisioned them.

Do you ever have that?

No matter how many projects you try and tackle , its just not coming out right?

What do I do when that happens?

I figure that I have WAAAAY to many things going at once on my work bench,

and give the studio a thorough cleaning , and cleansing.

Cleaning to put everything in its proper place so I can think straight, and

cleansing to get rid of all the negative JU JU ! LOL

All was much better after that .

But, now its been a few days, and a few projects

later . I can tell you right now as soon as this posts this morning , I will

be in the studio cleaning again, to make sure and keep those bad Ju Ju s at bay!

I have been doing a lot of fold forming metal lately. I love

watching the metal move and expand into shapes. This

little fellow was extremely hard to photograph, without my beloved slr.

(I m going to keep trying) , but

he is in a little fold formed copper pea pod .

This little broken china bird pendant on a copper fold formed leaf,

is my offering for PFATT this month.

It will be posted at 1pm eastern time tomorrow.

I have been busy making a gazillion broken china circles

for this workshop.

Good Monday Goings On! Giveaway Winner Announced Tonight

Good Monday to you!

Last week I went down to the basement studio,

which now that I have a very cozy but sunny

guest room upstairs ,

I admit I only go down to the basement if I am going to use anything bigger than a micro torch, the big ol drill press, Extra messy stuff that needs a little more ventilation etc.

Well, I still have a LOT of stash down there because my old map cabinets will not fit in the

upstairs room. So, their are tons of old map drawers FULL of goodies , and when I get into them its like Christmas!

On this trip , I gathered what I could which is basically 2 fistfulls of just stuff!

No rhyme or reason really, whatever just caught my eye.

The weird stuff in the upper left , are silk pods! I have
had them for a couple of years and just haven't figured out
a good use for them yet. But , I can feel it coming !
Any how, I took one of the antique buttons, and the vintage buckle,
and they became this bracelet,

On one of my Etched cuffs.

Then on Saturday, I got this little package of awesomeness

from Petra of Scorched Earth on Etsy.

They are in the "me just sitting and admiring them stage" right now.

It may be just a bit before they end up as something. I just love them!

I wanted to make some more findings to share as well! So here are some new

things to play with. Instead of framing the china completely, I have made them drops.

I used all flow blue, and English Transferware from 1850s through 1890s.

This one has the moon on one of them,

and I thought that was pretty cool.

I wanted the edges of these drops to appear as though they shards from the ocean,

or buried in the ground etc.

Very worn over time.

I am listing some to play with in my Etsy store tonight.

Also these tiny little cast pewter charlotte dolls. This tiny

size are perfect for earrings etc.

Last post I said it would be 8pm eastern to announce the winner of the spot in the "Fly" assemblage journal workshop giveaway, not realizing that little ms. Reagan had team practice until 8:30 . Bead Soup Blog Party 7 and Giveaway News

Happy Bead Soup 7 Blog Party!

This is my yummy soup I received from my partner

Jennifer of Glass Addictions.com

I loved every last bead she sent!

So I set off to beating, sawing ,hammering, torching, aging, soldering, and

beating some more!

I darkened up the cool toggle clasp just a wee bit.

I absolutely loved the blown glass bead on the antique key focal Jennifer sent me in
her soup, and

wanted try to do it justice.
I started out attempting to use whole soup,as I loved it all . But, then pulled back
some and used some of the yummy green beads, toggle, my fav blown key bead, and
parted reluctantly with 2 of the gorgeous blown glass head pins she sent :)

I just loved the beautiful blown glass headpins that she made, and used them

for the drops. (I am hoarding the rest of these cool head pins right now , as I really do love

just looking at and admiring them them in my studio)

This piece started out as part of a 36" LONG, brass sheet metal I just received from Indian Jewelers Supply. Not Rio Grande I know . I do adore Rio, but I was grinning ear to ear when that HUGE LONG box of metal goodness showed up at my door let me tell ya! If I only had a camera to show you it took me 20 full minutes to brake into that box! They had it sealed up tighter than Fort Knox!
Rio has much more toys to play with though, they will always be my fav supplier :)
I have ideas in the wings for the rest of the gorgeous goodies in my soup .
They are projects still to come.

Workbench Stuff and News for Upcoming Workshop

Happy Tuesday!

It's totally snowing here on March 26th, but I am ignoring it!!

Last summer I fell in love with making these boho bangle bracelets, and

made Lots of them!

I took some along with me to the Country Living Show with me and made an

unfortunate discovery. Instead of using an accurate tape measure , (DUH)! I used my own wrist

to measure the diameter of the bracelets, figuring that I was your pretty average joe.

Well, apparently I have unusally small wrists!

Now, of all the body parts to have freakishly petite , please.

We couldn't have pulled something better than that from the ol gene pool?

Well this time I used a tape measure!

2 5/8" in diameter.

I really fell in love with how this bead came out. It was made from a vintage

brass button.

They are full of yummy handmade beads, beautiful blue Amazonite stone beads, a couple of very lovely religious medals,
and hand died silk sari ribbon.

This is a framed antique tin type necklace I just finished. I haven't done

one in a while . I went through my stash and felt my pile of them was getting a little low lol. It must be time to go tin type ~~hoarding~~, shopping .

I made the hammered steel chain here in the studio.

Yesterday , I got to finally open my box I got from Jeni from

JBSMecrcantile that came on Saturday but we were whirling

around getting everything done we needed to, and I didn't get

a chance to open it.

Well pure magic and goodness it was!

I have know idea , but it looks totally awesome , and I am going to

have fun figuring it out.

And, I was finally able to finish a piece I had been working on all

last week.

I love these aquamarine stones.

of etched brass. Some are my etched

bullet casings, The top piece is brass tubing that

I have etched and soldered ends on to look like

an ancient scroll.

Happy Friday !

I have a couple of new things I will be listing in the

Etsy store today.

First off is this etched brass cuff I have been working on

for quite a while. It finally came all together the other night

when all of the layers off dark and green patinas I had

been looking for came out the way I wanted. I love when that finally

happens! I then gave it

a micro wax finish to seal all of the goodness in .

The bird focal is from several items actually, that I created

a mold from and then added 2 Aves 2 part epoxy.

(psst we will be doing this in the "Fly " workshop too :)

Finished it all off with a coiled steel hook and clasp,purely

ornamental in this case , and one of my bird bullets.

This is another pair of boho earrings with little tiny

baby charlottes that I have cast in pewter, wrapped in silk,

with sterling hand formed ear wires.

When I get the chance , I have been enameling

my little dr. Seuss house findings. I have mostly

just been playing with the colors. It is very exciting

to watch them cool and change like magic!

Rainy Monday , Off my Workshbench with a Secret Fun Tip!

Rainy , Rainy Monday .
Not so great for photos ,
but I am not going to complain at all
as it is supposedly going to hit 50 degrees today.

This pair is fresh off the workbench. Some more of my little enameled house shaped doohickys
added to them.

I call them my dr. seuss house shaped doohickys.
But, look at the crimped copper in the back. This tickled me to death!

Wonderful Microfold Break $149.00 as most of us know you are a complete Rio Grande.com junkie?

No, my friends it is not. Let me tell you a secret now....

It is an old scrapbooking paper crimper that I used one time on Reagan's birth announcements
(she's 11) lol . It worked awsomely!
Mind you it will probably only work well on 28-30 ish gauges . I know I got it at Michaels a million
years ago. It does have metal rollers on it, even though the rest is plastic frame. So , I was
pretty sure it would work on a light gauge metal. Beats $149.00
(for now anyway). Of course afterwords I had to punch it ,hammer it,
patina ,and wax it a couple different ways . But ,you can see the crimps are in there.
So, if you have one stuffed away in your supplies
long forgotten go try it!

One more pair that I have actually had for a while , and haven't gotten
around to listing .

New Off My Work Bench Some Supplies Coming For "FLy" Online Workshop

Something new off my workbench .

It feels like it has been a little while.

I needed to play a bit. A little here a little there, as time would allow.

I did some fun fold forming for the copper piece.

Upcycled some of my favorite vintage tin for the heart.

With the copper blossom behind it , it felt very spring like , and I needed that right now

with this crazy March snow!

I added one of my enameled copper bead thingys with pretty varying greens and a touch of rose

to complete my spring feel.

Added some yummy hand formed dark steel chain .

Sealed in a little warm rusty love,

Here is the fun stuff we will be getting into ...

"A Mother's Love Pendant"

In this workshop we will be creating 2 different

methods of metal bezel making ! For the first we

will be working with beautiful vintage broken china and creating a

deep shrine bezel for our assemblage.

Next we will be creating a gorgeous metalwork bezel

inside!

Lot's of fun metalworking and exploration.

Feel free to bring tiny elements to add to your own shrine :)

Metalwork Madonna Workshop

Come and embark on a metal working journey !

while you create your own one-of-a-kind necklace.

Create a gorgeous hand-wrought metal cross with a beautifully adorned center bezel featuring a vintage Madonna image (feel free to bring your own photo, if desired).

You will learn to use a jeweler's saw to create shapes from sheet metal. Techniques for texturing metals, soldering, adding patinas, bezel forming, wire wrapping, metal stamping and applying protective finishes will be taught.

Supplies: BTK (Basic Tool Kit) and a small metal bench block, chasing hammer, jewelry tools (round, flat pliers and cutters), plus a cheap set of jewelry pliers that can get "gooky", optional: religious medals, beads, or any vintage trinkets

Happy January 2013!

To start off the new year ,

I have 2 original one of a kind

dolls that I will be

offering on my PFATT page

on Thursday January 10, at 1:pm Eastern Time.

I am myself am always excited to see what else

my fellow PFATT members will be offering on

the 10th of each month!

First up is "Lady Cupid"

She is one of a kind assemblage on canvas doll.

She started out with a fun vintage wallpaper collaged canvas (4x12)

in dreamy pinks.

The doll is one of my very large (over 6") vintage Frozen Charlotte dolls c. 1890.

Oh my goodness what doesn't this girly have!

Her halo is from a vintage 1940s friendship quilt that I have layered and quilted even further

with pretty vintage laces.

Her crown and wings were constructed from vintage decorative drawer hardware.

Her dress is a gorgeous Victorian wedding undergarment that hangs dreamily

even below the canvas edge.

She possesses a metal "love" heart ,with a vintage skeleton key .

She is further adorned with rhinestones, Victorian steel cut buttons etc.

Next up is Lotti Luv

Lotti is made from one of my collected vintage

men's wool suits. I so love the texture of these old

suits, and pick them up when ever I can , and felt

them in the wash!

Her neck and face are made from vintage tea towel, that has been

tea stained. Her rosy cheeks are painted on with Pan Pastels.

Her facial features are shaped and sewn by hand.

She is dressed in fun vintage fabrics, and tulle from an

old wedding gown.

Lotti holds her own "love " pillow which also features lots of hand

stitching and vintage tulle.

Lotti is quite tall at 15" head to toe.

Both of these ladies will be offered first come,

tomorrow at 1pm Eastern Time on my

Pfatt page :)

6 Day of Christmas Vintage Doll Ornament

At one point , I began making these

for ornaments for our tree.

Then at some point during the process,

I came to the conclusion that after "dressing them up"

and all of the hand stictching, that there

was no way I would get the 30-40 or so done just for our tree,

before Santa Came down the chimney :)

This little ornie sits nicely on a shelf ,

or can hang on a large branch of a tree, or pretty door knob decor,

sitting at approx 7 3/4 " tall.

It is made from osnaburg, and

vintage pink ticking fabric, vintage lace

buttons, and some fun vintage style

calicos. And, of course a vintage

frozen Charlotte Doll!

Todays doll will be a little late,
ok a lot o bit late.
This week has finally caught up with me ,
and ran right past me!
I am behind. I need to do some ,packaging,
and shipping,
and general catch up. Soooooo,

This is not the doll that will be up tonight :)
This was a doll that I created as a special gift for Reagan,
for when I got home from Atlanta. We had been making prim
little monster dolls together, and this one was a larger one
that I had done in her favorite colors . I just thought I would
share her with you :)
As you can see,
she is not willing to give her up!

12 Doll Days of Christmas Day 5, How About Some Doll Jewelry?

Today, for my jewelry loving friends,

I am featuring one of my vintage lace cuff bracelets

with a cast metal charlotte doll!

The cuff has a sturdy brass base, and is completely

hand sewn with many layers of beautiful laces and trims, and seed beading.

It has an underlining of vintage wool felt, for a very soft

comfortable feel when you wear it.

The metal charlotte doll was cast by me

right here in the studio.

She will be available at 8pm tonight

in my Etsy Store :)
