Design aficionados flock to warmer climes for the winter season, especially when the sixth annual the Kips Bay Palm Beach Decorator Show House opens its doors on February 24th. The house, located in West Palm Beach’s Northshore neighborhood at 3240 North Flagler Drive, will play host to twenty-one top interior designers, who are currently hard at work installing their spaces. As the nation’s most esteemed designer show house, being tapped to design a room is a significant milestone and honor, and can be career-making for up and coming talent, and a welcome opportunity for an established designer to get in front of a design-loving audience. This year promises to attract a big turnout, and I can’t wait to see the creative transformation of the 7,524-square-foot waterfront home. The opening day preview reception and party is Friday, February 23, 2023., and tickets have staggered entry with various timed sessions throughout the afternoon into the evening, and can be purchased here. The longstanding charity event benefits both the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club’s and Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County, and the honorary chairs for 2023 are Bunny Williams, Ellie Cullman, Joy Moyler, and Veranda Editor in Chief Steele Marcoux. Ahead, the list of participating designers. Designer Alex Papachristidis crafts spaces made for gracious living. He designs beautiful interiors filled with exquisite moments, from working with unbelievable blue chip art to using divine custom finishes, his rooms are bespoke jewel boxes where every last decorative detail is considered. His new book with Rizzoli, The Elegant Life - Rooms That Welcome and Inspire, by Alex Papachristidis written with Mitchell Owens, takes us along on a visual journey through swank New York city apartments and luxurious, livable houses by the sea. His masterful touch can be seen in his deft use of print and pattern, and his love of decorative arts and a well-placed accessory can be felt throughout the show-stopping rooms he creates. But that’s not all he can do. His beautifully set tables also grace the pages of his book, and from the flower arrangements to the place settings, he creates some of the most gorgeous tables I’ve seen. And when it comes to working with the best vendors and museum quality pieces, Papachristidis has a rolodex of custom sources that are the best in the business. Sourcing is for most, the best part of the job, and I often see him dashing from showroom to shop, and he always stops to say hello, often with Cooper, his Norwich terrier puppy in tow. Ahead, a few of my favorite spaces from the glamour-filled abodes he has transformed.

A study done in shades of blue in a New York apartment. I love the vintage Louis XVI–style bureau plat designed by John Vesey paired with a whimsical palm tree lamp.

Grisaille, silver and gold in a cocoon-like setting he designed in the 2016 Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse. Being in this room swathed in a hand-painted Gracie wallpaper was magical. It shimmered and oozed glamour.

The charity design event Rooms With a View was started 27 years ago by the dean of American decorating, Albert Hadley. It showcases vignettes created by leading designers, and is held at the Congregational Church in Southport, Connecticut. Every year, a stellar group of design talent transforms diminutive 6x8 booths, turning them into high style spaces, and a design-loving audience turns out to see them and support terrific Connecticut charities. But that’s not all! A host of fun events are taking place throughout the weekend, and the opening party (buy tickets here) kicks off November 10th, followed by a design industry gathering the evening of the 11th (buy tickers here). Friday’s programming features a conversation led by ARC Fine Art’s Adrienne Conzelman with designers Darren Henault and Melissa Lindsay, followed by Slim Aarons Style authors Shawn Waldron and Kate Betts. On Saturday, Nash Hill will give a presentation, Kathryn Herman will discuss landscape design, and Lulu Powers and Billy Ceglia will share holiday entertaining ideas. Saturday afternoon brings authors and their books— Bryan Huffman and Thomas Lloyd of Bunny Mellon Style, Barbara Sallick and her new book, The Ultimate Bathroom, Marc Kristal and The New Old House , Classic Kitchens for Modern Living by Sarah Blank and Collected Interiors from Philip Mitchell. This September 22nd, the third annual Kips Bay Decorator Show House Dallas opened, and revealed the hard work and creative energy the 24 selected interior designers put forth. The talent-filled group worked tirelessly to transformed the interior and grounds of a 12,470-square-foot home in Old Preston Hollow’s Sunnybrook Estates neighborhood. But this year, things were different. The house, which usually stays open for a month, was only able to welcome visitors for a 4 day span. Because of this abbreviated run, I hope you will support this incredible event, and the charities involved. Proceeds benefit the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club as well as two local charities, Dwell with Dignity and The Crystal Charity Ball.

Some common design themes emerged in the house, with bespoke luxury artisanship, vibrant color, namely mustard (yes, its still trending) and shades of purple, large-scale lanterns, floral prints, and detailed ceilings leading the pack. Ahead, take a look at some of the captivating spaces that caught my eye.

My good friend Shelley Johnstone created a calming respite in her “Garden View Study & Bathroom.” The sitting room, swathed in a brown and white ticking stripe, was tailored and polished, with a fresh, crisp feel. She incorporated plaster elements, French antiques and elegant decorative touches. Pretty details include her use of tape trim and fringe, along with pale pink blooms and greenery, and it was feminine without being saccharine.

Atlanta designer Patricia McLean Interiors’ “Travelers Retreat” once again proves that blue and white is always right. Inspired by far-flung travels, the elegant hideaway incorporates a Soane Britain blue and cream paisley stripe, worldly elements, antiques, and charming touches, like the scalloped bedskirt that playfully incorporates the paisley pattern. Because pretty is here to stay.

Alessandra Branca's “Foglia” living room is a verdant oasis, swathed in green and cream, and mixes vintage and clean-lined pieces. A leaf and vine patterned wallpaper carries the eye upwards and makes the double-height ceilings and expansive windows feel more intimate.

Avrea & Company’s “Pretty in Plaid” pulled blue, green and purple into her bedroom scheme with a dramatic, sheltering canopy bed serving as the focal point. Collected and classic, the Dallas designer layers pattern in a variety of ways— plaid walls provide a graphic counterpoint to the abundant floral print.

Blaire Murfree of Nashville’s Blaire Designs was inspired by Portugal when designing “Vista Do Jardim De Um Explorador.” Pairing varied materials and modern with more traditional pieces, her seating area in mustard and purple with touches of blue is sophisticated and worldly.

Chad Graci of Graci Interiors’ created “Bon Vivant Hideaway” comprised of a hallway and bath, unified by pattern, cranberry colored trim and luxe touches. I worked with him at David Easton and was thrilled to see his name because I knew he would bring the glamour, and he delivered it in spades.

M+M Interior Design’s “Reading Room” is a vast space unified by jewel tone paisley, florals and ikats, in what is ultimately a very cozy spot with assorted seating areas. The duo of Leslie Martin and Kim Meardon created special vignettes for social moments; a canopied nook takes its cue from a Moroccan tent, and towards the back of the space, a paisley-covered sectional beckons. A veritable cabinet of curiosities, collected pieces include vintage Italian faux marble painted plinths (in a wonderful nod to 80’s decorating), 18th century pieces and assorted objets. And lets not forget about the handsome iron lantern with pebbled glass that casts a warm glow.

Dallas-based designer Noel Pittman’s Laundry Room proves that spaces can be chic and functional at the same time. Pairing a charming red and white gingham with timeless cabinetry that resembles a classic butler’s pantry, the space doubles as an office with a spot to escape the everyday.

Anthony Baratta’s Study works with a melange of styles including Americana, Victorian, and English touches with brown furniture and classic pieces throughout. Baratta’s signature use of bold pattern and color did not disappoint.

Design duo Lance Scott and Cecily Waud of the newly launched LC Studio designed “Midnight Lounge.” A family room with modern elements and a heady dose of glamour, they pair matte and high gloss finishes, and the 15-foot ceilings are tamed by the organic furniture arrangements and undulating forms dotted throughout.

LA-based designer Natasha Baradaran designed "The Empowered Woman" bedroom is a retreat in soothing pale colors. She pairs contemporary pieces, like this soaring headboard with modern cut-outs and a somewhat traditional floral print wallpaper.

Isabel Ladd Interiors’ “La Terraza Tropical” pairs vibrant colors with natural materials. The Kentucky designer with Brazilian roots created a series of outdoor rooms in a kaleidoscope of joyful patterns with plenty of vivid blooms in a lush garden.

Byron Risdon’s designed his outdoor space, “Terrasse 107” with entertaining in mind. The Washington, DC-based designer created an outdoor living room in cream hues with fully-upholstered pieces surrounded by unique seating areas.

There were so many design events cancelled last year, charity’s that benefitted from their support need us now more than ever. One such event, Rooms With A View, was founded by the late Albert Hadley in a town he held dear, Southport, Connecticut. It’s a place I am now lucky to call home. Celebrating its 27th year, this wonderful 3 day design event showcases 12 interior designers talents (shared below) tasked with transforming a tiny space. Tapped by the design advisory board, they create six-foot-by-eight-foot vignettes that are diminutive in size but big on style. These small but mighty rooms showcase a range of styles and are truly awe inspiring.

Since it began in 1995, the event has donated $1.7 million to local charities. Held at The Southport Congregational Church, the opening party (buy tickets here) is November 4th. A design industry event is the evening of the 5th (buy tickers here), and Collector’s Night (buy tickets here) is being hosted by Adrienne Conzelman of ARC Fine Art, where she will chat with the wildly knowledgeable (and keen observer) interior designer and writer David Netto. A group book signing November 6th will round out the festivities. The vignettes are on view until November 7th, from 12pm-5pm. and you won’t want to miss the creative moments this year’s designers bring. You can’t go wrong with a striped beach towel. They go together like peanut butter and jelly: surefire classics. I love the wide awning stripe in coral and white by Kassatex at Chairish. I have this towel in aqua and it is the perfect size.

Ah, straw, bamboo and wicker, I just can’t quit you. A dainty bag with all the right details, this diminutive darling by J. McLaughlin includes a piece of coral for a handle and a bamboo closure.

A beach bag the size of a house, this canvas version with green and white webbing by Loeffler Randall has true prep style that will take you from beach to BBQ.

Bugs be gone with this genius lantern. Finally, you can sit outside at dusk and enjoy yourself without worrying you will be eaten alive by mosquitos.

When it comes to melamine, not just any old plates will do. The minute I laid eyes on these charming blue and white floral plates, I was smitten.

These are the best acrylic glasses ever. When I entertain, I always get asked about these whisper thin glasses from CB2. The Marta glass is a stylists go-to with its clean lines.

The annual D. Porthault sale starts today, online. The French maker of some of the most charming floral linens for bed and bath, table and more has been creating coveted printed and embroidered linens since the 1920’s. This event is online, making it accessible to all. In the past, long lines would form outside their Park Avenue location, and every interior designer, and floral print aficionado would be there. This year, all it takes is a click of a button to buy now, and things go fast. The sale usually continues for a few weeks, but no specific end date has been provided. Spring is here, now your bed bloom too!

The show house goes on! Ushering in the spring season, the 4th Annual Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Palm Beach opens April 8th. Last year’s opening party drew over 1,000 design aficionados. Guests flew in from New York, Atlanta, California and even further afield. It was the last big design event of 2020, as COVID halted life shortly thereafter.

This year, 20 designers will set about transforming the 4,400-square-foot Mediterranean villa at 7417 South Flagler Drive in West Palm Beach. Check out the designers tapped to participate this year, shared below. The wonderful Bunny Williams is the Honorary Show House Chair, and Design Co-Chairs are Steele Marcoux, Editor in Chief of Veranda, Ellie Cullman, and Joy Moyler. This committee works tirelessly to make everything come together.

Visiting show houses is one of my favorite pursuits, and am thrilled to be attending the opening day preview on behalf of Chairish. The house will be open to visit April 8- May 9 from 10am-4pm. Tickets are available here. Will I see you there? I hope so.

Caviar, cozy? Hear me out. With holiday parties put on ice, why not indulge chez you? Roe Caviar has dynamite packaging so you can feel good sending it to friends, too.

For everyone that hightailed it out of New York City (myself included), this present will keep the city that never sleeps top of mind. The I Love NY Bundle is on sale now at Hill House Home.

A classic pom pom hat is hard to find. Tuckernuck’s Pink Pineapple hat in a petal pink chunky knit is close to what I was searching for,

Mittens! You can’t get much cozier than that. Soia and Kyo make the cutest fleece faux fur mittens. These are selling quickly.

Penelope Chilvers is known for making amazing snow boots. I was excited to see a slipper version of them at Anthropologie online. Made of felted wool and lined in shearling, these retro slipper boots have a rubber sole in case you want to wear them to walk the dog.

The Elder Statesman is known for their unbelievable cashmere throws, and this blue and white checked piece is no exception. If there is gingham involved, I like it.

It’s a best seller for a reason: the cashmere Cocoon sweater by Jenni Kayne is like a blanket with sleeves.

Stripes are an instant mood brightner and can be a nice change from the usual pandemic uniform of grey, natural or oatmeal sweaters and sweatshirts with sweatpants. La Ligne knows this, and their Marin cashmere and wool sweater has a 7- ply knit. This stripe comes in different contrasting color variations and is constantly selling out, so grab it while it’s still available.

There is certainly not a dearth of new brands designing charming pajamas and nightgowns. But most are sold out since they transition from morning till night and could be considered an “outfit” on a cold weekend. Ever appealing, you can’t go wrong with a classic,. Every year these surface and make a great gift— the J. Crew Vintage pajama set in pale pink with navy piping. Love that combo!

Personalized towels with matching piping are the height of cozy. Weezie, the direct to consumer brand I covered when they debuted, makes wonderfully soft and fluffy towels that come in an array of constantly updated trim colors and monogram options. Their starter pack is a runaway hit.

Take a screen break for some good old fashioned play, games are back in a big way. Chess is having a resurgence with The Queen’s Gambit fever happening since November, but backgammon enthusiasts have been quietly doing their thing for years. There is nothing like a classic leather backgammon board, and Mark and Graham’s version fits the bill.

Spongeware mugs aren’t anything new, but they have a distinctive pattern and are different from other the other mugs out there. Tory Burch’s spongeware set of four mugs comes in a smaller pattern (shown above) and a larger version.

Table in a Bag is a Crate and Barrel classic. They’ve made this piece forever, and for good reason. It makes eating on the beach a snap and is easy to carry.

Who ever thought a cooler would be so cool? YETI has somehow managed to become the go-to with the Tundra, it’s sleek, well designed way to keep things chilly.

Amaze everyone with your functional and stylish outdoor lighting with Zafferano’s rechargeable table lamp. It provides 9 hours of LED light and looks good while doing it.

When it comes to outdoor umbrellas, those in the know turn to Santa Barbara Designs. Long an editor favorite, their quality and style is unparalleled. Chairish teamed up with California brand and designed an exclusive collection. Available in an array of colors, I prefer the Tuscan Sunset Umbrella with wide stripes and marquis style valance detail.

This large enamel serving platter can handle BBQ and big salads with ease.

Plastic plates get an upgrade! Terrain’s brightly patterned tile print melamine plates make eating out of doors an elevated experience.

Have it made in the shade with Eugenia Kim’s Annabelle straw hat that has giant grosgrain ribbon. If there is a ribbon on it, I usually tend to like it.

Save face with one of the best sunscreens out there: Anthelios by La Roche-Posay. Apply early and often.

It’s back! The Bermuda bag returns from Mark and Graham in this great blue and white gingham. And this one has my initial, so it makes me want it even more!

If you decide to venture out to a park or grassy knoll, bring the wine and hors d’oeuvres in Anthropologie’s rattan wine basket it’s just the thing for al fresco drinks at a distance.

Corksicle stemless wine glasses are the portable drink container du jour. I see people walking down the street in New York City carrying them while on their evening stroll.

In a small blue and white floral print, Serena and Lily’s lightweight laminated birch Priano trays are a great addition to an existing collection and can be used indoors and out.

This decorative ceramic flower from Chive is so pretty and can be used as a pretty addition to a dining table or as an objet on a coffee table.

Have a graduate at home? Put a picture of them in this Williams Sonoma Home woven rattan frame. I like it for its summery feel.

Cheap n’ chic. This fluted brass planter from H&M reminds me of a Josef Hoffmann piece.

Is it peculiar to like a garden hose? This heavy duty one from Terrain can withstand a lot of use and the color is anything but basic.

Need a place to rest an iced tea while in the garden? Try a garden stool that is a bit less expected, covered with blue squiggles from Anthropologie.

Just the thing for a staycation: cute striped sun chairs! Business and Pleasure, a cool Australian brand that understands breezy beach style, has a collection of fringe detailed umbrellas that coordinate, available on Chairish.

Is it time to consider purple? I think so! The sweet new ditsy floral print, Truvy, from Biscuit features a lilac colored piped edge.

When Schumacher took one of their beloved prints and partnered with Matouk to make bedding, printed textile fans rejoiced. I find the Pomegranate print in the coral color way to be the most versatile, with it’s easy to use colors.

Chinoiserie pagodas are a decorator’s delight. When made from wicker and filled with flowers and candles on a table, even better! Amanda Lindroth’s new tabletop this spring is as wonderful as ever, with a wide assortment of wicker pagoda styles to choose from. I think I need one of these. It brings me joy.

I just love everything Heidi Carey does. When I discovered (via my Mom) that her sister Amanda used to babysit for me and my sister back in Long Island, fond memories came rushing back. I idolized these sisters! So stylish in their blazers and slide necklaces with monogrammed pendants. Heidi’s talent for prints is now on view in her tabletop designs, which are done in beautiful floral prints with contrasting edging. These new circular Lilly-of-the-Valley mats and napkins come in a set of four and add a fresh touch to the table.

The auctions of Mario Buatta’s estate reignited a love for decorative objet, including ceramic and porcelain melons, cabbage and bunny rabbits. Why not start your collection with Bungalow 5’s Blanc de Chine porcelain Vegetable Garden Set? Monochromatic and chic!

Cabana Magazine launched new tableware, which is always inspiring. The Corolla plates have an undulating band with a geometric flower petal pattern in red and teal.

Bright and cheery, India Amory’s new block printed Hollyhock Dinner Napkins add a dose of much needed color.

Mercedes Salazar’s raffia designs have a whimsy that always make me smile. Her candlesticks with pineapples sure are fun.

Anything looks better dipped in white, including wicker. This new Dipped Scallop Coffee Table from Mainly Baskets Home is a standout.

Make a statement with a single bloom. The Poppy mirror from Soane is made of hand crafted rattan and recreates the flower’s outline. It’s an absolute ode to joy.

Every room needs some sunny yellow. Brit wunderkind Luke Edward Hall teamed up with The Lacquer Company to create painted trays with a little joie de vivre. The Etienne Tray, available through Chairish.

Another scallop! Anthropologie’s Scallop Rug is sweet and adds a bit of a graphic element to a room.
