Morib and Dong Zen Temple (东禅寺 )

It was the international new year holiday! Where to go, we thought. Shopping mall? Too crowded. After hours of delaying, we decided to head to Morib, which is about 40 minutes drive from KL.

The entrance of the Dong Zen Temple. Serenity and solemnity of the temple can be felt on the first glare.

We were welcomed by the beautifully bloomed orchids, from yellow, pink to purple.

We walked the other way round, that's why we only read the signage of Lumbini Garden after walking out from the garden. I first thought it was "Lamborghini Garden". LOL

Make a wish by ringing the big bell :)

The red tanglung (lantern) made us submerged in the CNY feel. Holiday!

After the almost an hour walk in the Dong Zen Temple, we headed to Morib Gold Coast for the sunset which located just about 10 minutes drive distance from Jenjarom.

We flew the kite too. It's holiday and it's back to childhood day!

We had a nice day.

Why not pay a visit to Morib on your holiday for a short escapade?
Dong Zen Temple are having exhibition of lanterns during CNY, do drop by and take a short tour there :)

Ficelle Boulangerie & Patisserie @ Taman Danau Desa

Hey guys and girls! Have you been to the Levain Boulangerie Patisserie located at Jalan Delima, KL? It sells decent macaroons and it's well-known among the people. Many people went all the way to that area just to buy their macaroons... (You and I should know that area will normally be jam like nobody business...)

Well, to save you from all the trouble getting there. They had opened a branch at Taman Desa on May 2011!

It's from the same management (Beryl's) but different name thou..

Same old macaroons available at different place now~ They all are freshly baked.. Best to eat as soon as you bought it :) However, they are way too sweet for our liking.

And here are some cheaper packages of macaroons @ RM 4.50.. We don't really know why it is cheaper, maybe because this is less exclusive compared to those self-selected flavour on shelfs =P Still, they can be little gift for friends and relatives~

They have muffins, mousse cakes, birthday cakes and so. They sells by pieces and also the whole cake.. We haven't try their cake here before but they are looking good =]

Variety of breads here.. From traditional bread to new and fancy one~

We had ordered this that day, Mont Blanc @ RM 7.40 and if you order this in a set @ RM10, it comes with two pieces of cookies and a cup of coffee/tea.. This deal is only available on weekdays. Honestly, we would not recommend readers to take the set as they aren't that worthy after all.
Yv, the chestnut aficionada, was looking for this since she watched a drama about a passionate patisserie baking this dessert.
Le Mont Blanc is named as it is closely resembles a snow-capped mountain. A dessert with dulcified puréed chestnuts topped with whipped cream.We tried to eat this layer by layer, slowly taste it and try guessing on what's inside. In the end, we ate with a big scoop that holds every layer and discovered it tasted more harmony that way! =D

The coffee from the set we ordered.. Nothing special about this...

Mashed Potato Bun @ RM 2.80 and Hazelnut Cream Bioche @ RM 2.50 at the back..

A person who likes mashed potato like Wy, thinks that this Mashed Potato Bun is very delicious, although it's just an ordinary bun with mashed potato filling, it taste superbly rich when combined with the ham =)

As for the Hazelnut Cream Bioche, it taste really good as well. Cube-looking bread with hazelnut cream inside..Hazelnut is always the best partner of chocolate as they make eat other more flavourful in a balsamic way.

The most important part now is to shows you all, where does this shop located..

Bear in mind, do not simply park on the road side and blocks the way.

Let's begin the journey in the cave!

As it was quite dark, steep and slippery in the cave, I didn't manage to capture a lot of pictures. The name of Blue John derives from the French bleu-jaune, meaning 'blue-yellow'. Blue John is actually a kind of precious mineral, which commonly known as crystal. I have been wearing crystal bracelet for years, yet, this is the first time I get so close to the mining area of them! Magnifique! More info can be found here :)

After hours of adventurous and knowledgable journey, it's time to response to our drumming stomach....Here we are in The Three Roofs..

Notice the teapots and drawing on on the wall? That's typical British style and I like it!

Here come my warm warm Minestrone Chicken Soup with Baguette. Hmmp.. I especially appreciate the soup in that Winter afternoon. My fingers are almost frozen at the mountain area.

They serve some homemade cakes and scones too!

Now you can understand why is it called The Three Roofs? It really have three roofs on it! Hehehe...

After eating, of course we are heading to the Gift Shop for some souvenirs.. But, believe it or not, I didn't get anything from there at all. I am not a fans of jewellery and those home decor crystal are way too heavy to be carried back to Malaysia! LOL

The Rose- It's the name of the house! I wish I could name my house after my name too... ahahahhaah

Before we head back to Sheffield, we said goodbye to the duck in Castleton.

Merry Christmas at Highway Cafe @ Seri Kembangan

Hi guys and girls out there, we wish you Merryyyyyyyy Christmas~!
Hohoho.. :D

It was Christmas eve, we thought that we do not want to stuck in the traffic. Then, we decided to head to Highway Cafe, a neighbourhood Western Steak House in Seri Kembangan with promising foods.

They provide Christmas menu for the festive-filled season too.

Before the main dishes serve,we had the small baguette with Anchor butter. Yv's all time favourite frozen butter! Yummy!

Here comes Sizzling Chicken Portuguese, one of the signature dish of HC. Sitting there for like an hour, you could see many of these are being ordered.
The chicken is perfectly grilled and topped with gravy served on sizzling hot plate with French fries and vegetables. When it's served, we can still see the smoke floating in the air. :P

We also had some Neptune choice, Grilled Salmon Steak. Canadian fresh water fish, garnished with parsley lemon butter sauce, served with French fries and mixed vegetables.
It is perfectly grilled and filled with the aroma of the salmon fish every bite in your mouth.

Wy's wasn't fulled after having his main course, so here comes another main course, the Nasi Lemak :) Very fragrant rice and tender Rendang chicken reminds Wy about the Sakura's Nasi Lemak.

Mango Smoothies, a disappointing choice of the day. Wouldn't recommend this, their fruit juice might be a better choice. Yv likes their orange juice :)

Fortunately we're quite early on the eve of Christmas. It was almost full house after 7 pm and the waiter became very inattentive and that became the only discontent of the day.

Geoduck and Abalone! It's the first time we see Geoduck. It's quite scary to me though as it spray water periodically ...I wonder how does it taste...

Yam Cake with Fried Cuttlefish aka Fatt Putt .

The yam cake was really crispy and moist, sotong was chewy but not soggy.

Fried Chicken with Sweet and Sour Sauce aka Gu Lou Yok. Normally, this dish is done with pork, here, it's done with chicken as this restaurant is Halal-certified :)

Taufu with Sour Sauce and Egg White Gravy aka La Zi Taufu. The kids love this!

Of course, we have the juicy crab on our table. The Sour and Piping Hot Crab was really meaty.... Hmmm.. Writing this post still remind us the finger licking good taste!

This was our second visit here. I miss their Nyonya Laksa and baba cendol! However, I'm quite disappointed with their significantly declined standard.

The Passion Fruit Cendol @ RM 4.00. Refreshing, I would say. This is Yv's sis favourite!

Baba Cendol @ RM 3.00 is the best among all cendol in the house. However, the quality and quantity aren't as good as the previous visit in 2009. Hmm... things changes as time passed by.

Ice Kacang @ RM 3.00. Very prevalent ice-kacang, we would prefer the ice kacang at the roadside :P

Could you see the portion of the cendols? (taken in 2009 by our friend, Lavenne)

The 2009 Nyonya laksa. The 2011's version is not presentable, so we did not border capturing it :(

Pai Tee @ RM 9.50. Expensive, and common. LOL. Apparently it doesn't captivate us.

Frankly speaking, we would not recommend readers to visit during weekend as the crowd will set u off and the food will be below par :(

Passion to the Fruit Paradise @ Samplings on the Fourteen

Despite of the hustle and bustle of school and work, we took a day off for the fine dining at Berjaya Hotel to taste the effort of their second semester of college. Beside supporting my brother, of course, we were there for food!

Samplings on the fourteen floor @ Berjaya Times Square Hotel.

The centerpiece.

Menu of the day by the service team. They were welcoming us with their most courteous service, with slightly nervous body language as their performance were being closely supervised. Don't worry, we are not those fussy customers : )

The rosy butter and the olive oil with the complimentary self raise-bread.

The appetizer- Seafood Kebab. Scallop, prawn and watermelon speared on a bamboo skewer with sesame ginger soy basting grilled to perfection. A very fresh kick-start of the meal with juicy watermelon and light seafood.

Main course 1- Tarragon Chicken, poached chicken breast in vegetable stock, being pan fried until golden and served with herbs-couscous and tarragon grape source.

The grape definitely caught my attention though the chicken breast was slightly dry for our liking. Yeah, we knew that chicken breast are meant to be less-fat but I prefer juicier texture. Couscous was fine, but we personally think that mashed pumpkin-potato might be a better match. Overall, it's a good plate of healthy combination : )

Main course 1- Roast Leg of Lamb. We had our lamb well-done with wine. Leg of lamb with apples and raisin stuffing served with Rosemary sauce, sauteed vegetables and fondant potatoes. The well-done lamb wasn't very dry, but I wish I could be more daring and have the medium rare lamb with pink in the center : (

Chocolate Jelly Cheese Gateux is the dessert of the day. Layers of chocolate crumbs and chilled cheese cake topped with strawberry jelly served with fruit compote. Dad and sister, both with the sweet tooth were very satisfied with the ending of the three-course-meal.

The 3-course-meal served by Berjaya University College of Hospitality at lunch hour is RM 28.00 nett.

Charcoal Fried Hokkien Mee @ Seri Kembangan

We always wanted this for supper as this is one of our favourite food of all. Guess what?

Its's Hokkien Mee! Not just any ordinary Hokkien Mee but it is Charcoal Hokkien Mee.

With just RM 5.50, you can defeat the hunger in your tummy with this delicious food. The mee's texture is soft and springy~ Not to mention that the smell is great as this is cooked with charcoal.

Another all time favourite when we visit dai chao is the Law Mee.

The price for this Law Mee is @ RM 5.50 as well.

The gravy with aromatic sesame oil had countered the alkaline taste of the "yellow mee"! Thumb up for this!

You won't miss the place with this picture. It should be somewhere along the road side of Jalan SK 6/1, Seri Kembangan (opposite Mei Yee book store).

Fragrant Jasmine tea, a smooth choice with cute cups.

The appetizer, pickled guava. Interesting!

Royale Chicken Barrel. Eating this can reduce exhaustion, muscle relaxation and revitalize blood cells.

Stir fried fungus with Wu Wei Zi, helps to restructure spleen and rejuvenate mentality and aids slumber.

Nourishing Soup with Ginseng. It helps to regenerate "qi" and recuperate immune system.

Ning Shen Nourishing Soup. It helps to calms mind, regenerate and regulate heart rate.

Tai Zi Shen Bei Fish Slice. Tasty! The herbs and goji didn't take all the attention of the freshness of the fish. Simply delicious!

The ambiance of the restaurant are fine, very pleasant dining experience and the waiters are very attentive and the food are of good quality.

Fei Lou Mok Hakka Yong Tau Fu @ Salak South Garden, Kuala Lumpur

This is a long standing restaurant at Salak South Garden that a lots of people from KlangValley used to visit. We had pay uncountable visits but this is the first time we brought the camera. LOL

Decently taste yong tau fu @ RM 1.00 per piece, although it is a little bit pricey compared to Dai Shu Geok, Ipoh , still it worth a try. The tenderness of the minced meat in filled in various vegetables goes very well with the soup. People who prefer less "yit-hei" would like this!

Zha Yuk Noodle. Fried pork with the combination of lean and fatty portions with secret recipe gravy. Simply tasty with a bowl of white rice or noodle.

Peak District, Longshaw @ Derbyshire, England

It was a beautiful morning, we are lucky that the weather was good, as you could see from the photos, it was a sunny day. :) With the guidance of Claire and Malcolm, we went to Peak District for a short walk.
Peak District is the upland area in central and northern England, lying mainly in northern Derbyshire, but also covering parts of Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Staffordshire, and South and West Yorkshire.

Most of the area falls within the Peak District National Park, whose designation in 1951 made it the first national park in the British Isles.With an estimated 22 million visitors per year, the Peak District is thought to be the second most-visited national park in the world (after the Mount Fuji National Park in Japan)! I'm one of those lucky ones who step my feet on the Peak!!

A pretty meandering stream. It's superbly cold. My feet were almost freeze-bitten as I didn't wear a good pair of hiking shoes :(

Bread & Butter @ Viva Home, Cheras

It was during our previous semester break, we went to the Viva Home @ Cheras to have these as our high tea.

They claimed that their bread is self-made..

Since 1975...

Use of secret recipe..

What we have here are...

Peanut Butter + Chocolate @ RM 5.50. The bread is crispy and it is aromatic with the present of crushed peanut and chocolate. A good combination!.

Their Signature Coconut Custard (Kaya) + Condensed Milk since 1975 @ RM 5.50 as well. It taste rather common to us but still it worth a try since they said that this is their signature. =p

We were super full after eating those as our hi-tea of the day, guess the portion of the bread is meant to be shared. :)

Here comes with the complementary drinks : )

The drinks are Caffe Green Tea and Caffe Hazelnut respectively from front to back @ RM 8.90 and RM 7.90. The Caffe Green Tea taste quite good and the fragrant of green tea run my mouth after each sip. Good choice for people who does'nt like strong coffee. Same goes to the Caffe Hazelnut, the aroma of hazelnut is still fresh in my mind after few weeks. We would definitely re-visit for their latte!

Guess what? We were there with a steal deal. The bread comes with a drink only cost us RM 3.90 for each set.

It's tasty. First time in my life, trying the blue pasta. After the first bite, I can't help but keep filling more into my stomach! Now I knew French are born to be talented in culinary :) Thanks Laure!

Food Paradise at The Pearl of Orient@ Penang

Last week, WyYv had a wonderful trip with their makan kaki during the semester break.

Guess what? We went to Penang for a 2 days and 1 night trip! We went to a lot of places around Penang, from city to beach, temples, museum, gardens and so on~

There are really a lot of things to write about, but first let's us focus on the food we ate shall we? :)

We reached Penang Island at around 3 pm in the afternoon and the first dinner we had was at the Gurney Drive Hawker Centre.

Alright, here we go. The Penang Prawn Mee.

This is really disappointing as we don't feel the taste of a prawn mee from the soup, it's taste quite bland and the hor fun are quite mushy.

The Char Kuey Teow, it taste so so but the amount of prawns was gernerous. Almost every bite, there is a prawn.

Just two of those aren't enough we know, therefore we ordered this grilled stingray as well. We can say that, it's just another grilled fish, nothing extraordinary thou. RM15.00 for this small piece, it's just tourist price we guess.

Lastly, we had the Rojak in which we feel that the Rojak we had in KL's pasar malam would be better than this.

Conlusion is that, we feel that the quality of the food here has gone down compare to last few years but of course different people has different point of view in the taste of food.

The next morning was a rainy day, it was drizzling all the way :( Still, we decided to take a short walk around the place where we stayed. Eventually, we found the historical KFC @ Jalan Larut.

According to the friendly cashier inside, this old British-style building were taken over by KFC and has been renovated. Can't believe after 30 years since then, it still looks as good as new huh? Doesn't that sound exciting even though it's KFC??!

We shared our breakfast which is the breakfast set, a.m. Platter Combo since we want to save our tummy for the lunch :D We had this platter for RM6.95 as that was the introduction period for it. Now the price has been increased to RM 8.95 already.

The teh tarik was quite sweet at the first taste but found that it was just nice after the British breakfast.

With our tummy filled, we headed to few tourist spots before we had our lunch in the late afternoon.

We had the most famous and also delicious Asam Laksa and Char Kuey Teow at Ayer Itam.

It might seems like just those asam laksa which we can get anywhere, but seriously the taste is so good that we still missing it now.
It's not too sour nor spicy unlike those we ate before.
Not to forget that the soup is full withed the fish's slices which makes the soup taste even better.

As for this Char Kuey Teow, the taste is superb! Not too oily but the texture of the Kuew Teow is just nice.
It's just so aromatic, try it and you'll know :D

As for our drinks, we ordered the Cendol, ABC and Coconut Juice. Yv feels that the Cendol is much nicer than the one she tried at Malacca :)

You'll never miss this place if you wanted to go to Kek Lok Si temple. As you can see, there is a signboard giving the direction to the temple, once you saw this board, the asam laksa stall is just there.

Before we go back to Kampar, we grabbed something to bite from Choy Kee Confectionary Sdn Bhd.

Here we go, the Portuguese Egg Tart.

Milky Portugese baked tart. Intense milky aroma can be tasted after the first bite. Yv likes this but still I prefer the one I got from Tong Kee Confectionary or Kings Bakery.

We also had this Fried Yam Cake. Interesting shape with awesome taste! Yv wants to learn to bake this!

Curry Mee under Blazing Hot Sun? @ Seri Petaling

It's a blazing hot day, still, we are going for curry. Malaysian, typical Malaysian. No matter how warm it is, we still want hot food!

Yv's Curry Hor Fun Mee @ RM 4.50. Can you see the juicy "siham" aka cockles?! Afraid of burning your tongue, you can always order a cup of icy Passion fruit juice, great in neutralizing the spicy sensation :)

Wy's Curry Wantan Mee @ RM 4.50, the wantan mee doesn't give strong alkaline odour as the fragrance of the curry covered it, good one!

It's a neighbourhood stall located at Jalan Perlak 1, at the vicinity of Seri Petaling wet market. This is one of the Yv's childhood memory as she used to follow her nanny to wet market and dapao this as lunch!

Mille Crepes @ Food Foundry, Petaling Jaya

In a pleasant afternoon, we paid a visit to Food Foundry(FF) after lunch at MM Cafe, which was right opposite FF. Mille crepe, French thousand layer cakes trend had been mushrooming like the macaroons since it was first introduced into Malaysia.

We heard about how heavenly taste it is. However, to our surprise, that might not be our cup of tea. Mille means thousand in French. There is no thousand layers as the name said, still the 20+ layers of hardwork worth you a try :)

We made a safe choice, Chocolate Mille Crepe @ RM 9.00. Perhaps we had been photographing the item for too long, it was as good as we imagined when it's almost cooled to room temperature.

Strawberry Mille Crepe @ RM 9.00. Beautifully presented crepes which are meant to be shared. A little bit too sweet for our taste buds.

The ambiance of the neighbourhood cafe. Not much people at that random time we went. :P

This is the Chicken Soup, taste good and very creamy. Good to serve with the garlic bread.

The Seafood Chowder Soup is almost the same with the Chicken Soup just that the ingredients are different. Quite creamy for our liking.

Hawaiian Delight Pizza. The pizza is thin but the crust is crispy. As for the topping, it's just ok.

BBQ Chicken Pizza. Decently crispy crush pizza, though, for pizza lovers, you still gotta try Michelangelo's.

As for the dessert in this deal, we have..

Colorful Ice Kacang. The nuts and so were hidden inside. The generous portion of the ice kacang surprised us and we almost couldn't finish it as we are too full after the main course.

Ice-Cream Sundae. Vanilla ice-cream with chocolate syrup, cherry and some cream.

Now the drinks.. We have the fruit punch and another cup of soft drinks.

The bought two deal there those are the foods. When ordering food that time, the waitress told us about the kid meal is free if we order a food that worth RM 20 and above. Since Yv's sis is there, we decided to order one more dish that is the Seafood Paradise for RM 24.

The Seafood Angel Hair taste as if sambal is being used but it does not taste spicy at all. Plenty of sotong and prawns can be found but the sauce taste too bland for our liking.

So, now we had ordered this, we can have the Kid's Meal for free... Hooooray!

Today we have a short but informative thing to share when you visiting Malacca :)

Pork Satay! It was very lean pork and I categorize it as a non-fattening choice of satay. But, I would prefer it to be more juicy. Pork with intermediate fats would taste much better! Still, interesting!

Pork Intestine Satay, an adventurous try and Yv likes it! The intestine is clean and doesn't give bad pork smell. Good one!

Ketupat! I like ketupat dipped in satay gravy.

Tasty Kitchen @ Bandar Puteri Puchong

It was a random search at Bandar Puteri Puchong that day by just driving around those shop lots and eventually we found this shop.

The reason we were looking for this shop is because Wy's sis saw a review blog post on the Facebook sabout this. She clicked on it and this colorful pan mee caught her attention in which later on she ask Wy to bring her to eat.

The main problem is that the blogger did not give an exact address of this shop. We googled the address and name but we can't find a thing. At last we found that the blogger actually wrote the wrong name for the shop (instead of Tasty Kitchen, he/she wrote Tasty Pan Mee... ) and did not give full address. =(

Let's forget about that and we proceed to the food~

There are few types of Pan Mee to choose from and here they are. Choose your favourite or if you wish, you can have all together =)

We have Seaweed Pan Mee here @ RM 6.30. It was overly salted according to Yv.

The aroma of seaweed can be smelled. At first we thought where were the seaweed, they were hidden in the generous portion of pan mee.. It would be better if they put more seaweed instead of too much of pan mee. LOL..

Here comes the Black Pepper Pan Mee @ RM 6.30 as well.

It's seasoned with black pepper as in the name. The smell of the black pepper is strong and a little bit spicy.

Lastly, the Chili Soup Pan Mee @ RM6.30.

The soup is definitely a spicy one! A must for those who like hot and spicy =)

All the Pan Mee contains pork meatball, fishball, vege and some pork meats. One more similarity among them is that their soup are too salty. Too much Ajinomoto we guess. =P

First time of my life, travelling this far alone to the UK. Seriously, I couldn't sleep on the flight and I had movie marathon for the 14 hours! I actually experience 26 hours of daylight for the travel period. Jet lag? Not really. I just slept early and wake early for the first few day. How I miss the jet lag moment! I wanna be early bird!

It was study week with the holiday mood. Selamat Hari Raya, peeps! Mamak is not operating yet, so we opted for Japanese fusion today.

The appetizer: Sushi Katsu @ RM9.90
It was deep fried katsu, crunchy, full of mayonnaise. Anything else? You might find a small piece of fish in it if you tear the sushi bit by bit. LOL

Chizu Cyahan@ RM10.90 Nothing to shout about, it was just cheese fried rice. Believe us, you will regret if you order this, it taste like normal-take-away fried rice and the portion? You can see from the photo =.=

Sake Don with the minced salmon @ RM 12.90 Okay, it does looks good here, but, it was basically too soft which signifying the oh-so-yesterday freshness. This made me miss Zanmai Sushi badly!

Yeah, here we have the traditional thing. Green Tea, which was the only genuinely good Japanese's thing here. The green tea was good without the awful bitterness. Yv always order green tea to boost the antioxidant in the body and of course, anti-ageing!

Here come the best thing of the meal, the Tutti-Fruitti Milk Shake@ RM 5.50
It was recommended my our friend, it taste like the fusion of vanilla ice-cream with chunks of tangy fruit. I believe the tangy thingy is the orange or lemon chunks. LOL

The ambiance that create the always-full-house illusion as it ONLY has 6 tables and a row of single seats in it.
Guess what? We had been trying the pay a visit since the opening in July 2011, but it was always full-house =.= Now we understand that it was God's will to prevent us from trying. HAHAHAH!
