Christmas tree problems

2016-11-24T10:04:00.001-06:00

When your water bucket cracks and leaks all over your new carpet and the 11' tree almost fell over. And if the tree was plugged in you would see half the lights are out. Is this karma for attempting a pre-Thanksgiving tree??? #treeproblems #christmasfail

I don't bake, but when I do, we leave a fork in the pan and take it down- one bite at a time

2016-07-21T22:16:00.001-05:00

I bake about once a year. By baking, I mean we whipped up this box cake. Usually I do chocolate chip cookies- really because I want cookie dough. Anyhow, I had one expired box and this one was expiring next week. I guess we made a good dent in it.

Look who turned 4 already!!!

2016-07-07T21:42:00.000-05:00

I tried to take a pic of her once a week to see how much she changed over the year. What I'm mostly seeing is all sorts of style!

Here's to trying new things this summer

2016-06-30T12:16:00.001-05:00

My boys now have such a short food list of things they will eat- seriously, I don't even know what to feed them anymore. So we are trying to be adventurous and try new things. So far...

Yellow watermelon- not so great

Hawaiian rolls- success, because they are delicious anyway.

Dragon fruit. Not going to lie, I was slightly terrified. It was just ok, not worth the money.

Happy Mother's Day

2016-05-08T23:59:00.001-05:00

I'm pretty lucky to have these three!!!

Hello out there....

2016-03-17T23:33:00.002-05:00

It may be possible this is my worst blogging to date??? I don't know -sometimes I struggle to find motivation to do it. Looks like blogger added an easier feature for uploading images, so who knows, maybe I will get back with it!!

Seems like for a while there towards the end of the year we had this massive travel spree between work and personal trips and seemed like we had something going on every minute. Then it seems like January was fairly quiet and I spent a lot of weekend evenings cleaning - and by cleaning, throwing away crap that has piled up in the basement. Obviously I didn't throw away everything - no worries, still a nostalgic hoarder. And of course I found several gems. Activities are quiet right now - between seasons!

The boys played basketball for the first time this year. Overall, it went really well. We had a great coach and most the kids were a grade older. To my surprise, they actually scored several points a game. The team that is, not Carter and Dylan:) This as really all new to them and at the first game, they were playing defense when they were supposed to be playing offense. On an occasion they had a great moment of making a basket. But I am happy they are enjoying one of my favorites- knock-out!

Otherwise, the big thing happening at our house right now is finishing our basement! So excited to be doing this project - and we aren't doing it ourselves, so things are moving along quickly. However, I have been pinning like crazy and trying to find some fun ideas and since I'm miss picky, picky, picky- I've been to a zillion flooring stores and places. Mostly picky just because I hope to still love it in 10 years!

Olivia is doing dance this year. She showed me her little routine last week, so sweet!

Olivia picked out this Christmas dress this year and she just absolutely loves her "prettiest dress" and she has to wear her most special dress to all big events - church, boy scout events, grandma's bday dinner. We will see if she finds a summer event to wear it to!

Look at our little Tiger scouts. I'm not so great at keeping up with the boy scout activities!

Keith had a blast meeting John Elway at the PAC12 championship in California.

I took the kids rollerskating for the first time - and we have gone two more times since! The boys fell a zillion times. Liv loves it and she looks like she is rocking it out there, but those skates are locked up and she is basically walking. Happy as could be:)

My mom got liv her own tree this year. she loved it and she slept laying so she could look at her tree because it was so pretty:)
And the boys and their traditional tree pic.

One morning Olivia took a break from a dress and wanted to dress just like mom- and wanted to wear her "blanket shirt"

Boys 7 year stats!
The boys at the lighting of the town square - one of our favorite Polk City traditions. We finally took Olivia to Disney on Ice - she loved it! It was quite entertaining, I would go again! Boys probably won't make it back. I think Carter asked Keith about 5 minutes in - so this is a bunch of princess shows all in one.

Second year with a real tree - we love it!!!! So much fun. Not so much fun on the lights. We weren't really sure why we threw them all in a box without organizing them???

My mom trimmed Olivia's hair. This was her first haircut and we haven't trimmed it anymore since.

Until next time.... hopefully sooner than later:)

So this has been happening!!!

2016-03-17T22:45:00.001-05:00

No need to look back for a diy here, we wouldn't be finished until 2026 if we did this on our own! We are already at dry wall!!!

She loves, loves, loves riding her bike.

Working so hard..,,

2016-01-25T12:11:00.001-06:00

On her valentines!!! She was struggling in why one wasn't for her and why the boys would want frozen ones😁.

'Tis the season

My coat pockets

2015-12-07T12:30:00.001-06:00

All things I just piled out of my coat pocket. Not a wonder I can't keep my s#%* together lately.

Christmas cookies

2015-12-06T22:09:00.001-06:00

Good chance this will be counted as our Bormann holiday baking, or baking for the year for that matter. I bake like once a year. Thought about doing Christmas cookies with the kids, sounded like a lot of work, these will have to work. Thanks #bettycrocker

Their tree

2015-12-02T18:25:00.001-06:00

I love their little tree that has so many decorations it can barely stay up. I try and take a pic of them each year as they and their little tree evolves.

That time I got ugly Christmas sweaters for the twins

2015-12-02T18:24:00.001-06:00

Now if only I could find myself a fabulous, festive sweater.

Thanksgiving problems

2015-11-26T12:56:00.001-06:00

She's a beaut

2015-11-21T13:31:00.001-06:00

Made a trip to the tree farm today to find a tree. We couldn't find one quite as if as last years tree, but we did find a really nice one. Should be fun putting it up next weekend.

Pumpkins

2015-11-19T23:34:00.000-06:00

The kids had a lot of fun picking out their pumpkins and carving them this year!

They were all quite proud to set them out on the steps. Carter drew his own, we thought he did a pretty good job.

She's loving this

2015-11-15T00:20:00.000-06:00

Our neighbor girl was so kind to give Olivia this Olivia Bag - and she loved it! She had it on all day, on the way to the bus stop and buckled in the car.

Still a circus at the Bormann House

2015-11-14T00:16:00.000-06:00

Just a normal day around here.....

A little Cyclone Spirit

2015-11-13T00:11:00.000-06:00

this year we got season tickets for ISU Football games. Though we were big fans of tailgating in college, we have consistently tailgated since. We made it to a game or two each year, but never bought season tickets. So overall, we had lots of fun tailgating, but we need to get some cool tailgate stuff - like a tent and a generator (for our crock-pots of course) and who knows, maybe someday we will have a camper or a crazy bus. Not likely, but there is a good chance we will be better prepared next season. Olivia was a big fan of tailgating - an endless selections of chips, not too shabby for Olivia! The boys, they sorta like it? Perhaps they will grow to appreciate it. We did make some fun memories this season and witnessed some expected silliness in the Jack Trice parking lot.

leaf Hunt

2015-11-11T23:44:00.000-06:00

A couple weeks ago we had the perfect Sunday for a leaf hunt at Jester. We were probably a week or two too late, but were able to find a couple bags of leaves and the kids had a great time. The boys could do this kind of stuff all day long. I love seeing the trees turn into beautiful, vibrant colors in the Fall, too bad it doesn't last long.

Geocaching

2015-11-11T23:20:00.001-06:00

This summer we went to Ledges to do some geocaching - basically there is a website that has coordinates for treasures hidden all around, so once you get close you start to look the item. We had a hard time finding this one, but Dylan finally found it! He was pretty pumped to find it!

It definitely adds a bit of excitement and adventure to a nature hike. And of course the kids loved playing in the water.

Halloween

2015-11-11T11:56:00.000-06:00

I have some really exciting news to report – Carter was a ninja for Halloween this year. After three years of being a pumpkin, he finally gave a new costume a try. However, this did not come easy. Apparently he doesn’t like Halloween anymore and just wanted to stay home and hand out candy???? I wasn’t expecting this conversation until 9 or 10. However, when the time came, he actually put his costume on without any arguments and had a good time! Dylan was quite pumped about his zombie costume, which was much easier than the granola bar costume he talked about wanting for a few months. To no surprise, Olivia was Elsa. Sorta just felt like an everyday look for her. I love trick or treating in our neighborhood, so many people put out fun things in their yards and really get into it, with it being on a Friday this year I think there were more people out. We went back by our house and were out of candy within an hour.

Sock hands

2015-11-11T09:39:00.001-06:00

She hasn't done this for a while. At one point it seemed to be a daily occurrence.

About this third broken Arm

2015-11-09T23:44:00.002-06:00

Two days before Dylan’s 7^th birthday, he broke his arm. AGAIN! I was just thinking we were going to make it through “six” without an ER visit. Almost. Yes, all three broken arms were Dylan, his left arm when he was 23 months, his right arm when he was 4 and the right arm again. Almost the same spot, exact same type of break. Supercondylar fracture. Or what I may begin to call, a SuperDylan fracture.

So how did he break his arm, AGAIN? At recess, Dylan and Carter were seeing how far they can jump out of the swings and I guess Dylan didn’t quite land – what he is calling a 12’ high jump. Probably not that high, but he does swing high, so I’m guessing he came down hard. The kicker, he didn’t tell anyone at school and went the rest of the day with a broken arm, which totally breaks my heart. I’m sure he didn’t say anything because he was afraid he was going to get in trouble for jumping out of the swings. So I asked him if it hurt, and he said it did hurt. I asked if he cried, he said he didn’t but some water came out of his eyes. So then I asked if anyone noticed, but he said he went and sat in a tube on the play set so nobody saw him. He had a sub that afternoon, so I guess they didn’t notice until he went to get on the bus it was quite swollen and he was holding it funny. So as soon as they got to daycare they called us assuming maybe it was hurt because it was swollen. So we didn’t even get him to the ER until 6. Right away when I saw him I thought it was probably broken.

The break was exactly the same as last time, except it was not displaced, so we didn’t have to set it or have pins. Last time was much more traumatic having to do surgery. This time has gone fairly well, except they continue to check weekly since it can still displace in the cast. The hardest thing this time is he is right-handed and in school, but he’s getting much better with writing. We are about 2 weeks in and will have the cast for 4-6 weeks. I did ask the doctor if he had any concern with multiple breaks and he said, he’s doing it right – jumping out of swings and monkey bars! So he didn’t have any concerns from that perspective.

This is her writing an "O" - her favorite letter. In her defense, it is hard to write on the cast.

And just for a little flashback / comparison pics - here's our first broken arm HERE

And our second broken arm HERE

At least we didn't have to have pins this time!!!

Looking back at this, I can't believe how young he looks:(
