AnnaSophia Robb, best known for playing Violet in the 2005 Tim Burton feature "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," will star in the network's "Sex and the City" prequel "The Carrie Diaries" pilot, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Based on the novel by Candace Bushnell, "Carrie Diaries" revolves around a young Carrie Bradshaw as she comes of age in the 1980s, asking her first questions about love, sex, friendship and family while exploring the worlds of high school and Manhattan.

Fake Empire's Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage and Len Goldstein ("Gossip Girl," "Hart of Dixie") will executive produce alongside Warner Bros. Television. Former "Sex and the City" scribe/co-producer Amy B. Harris will adapt the book and serve as showrunner. Miguel Arteta will direct the pilot.

The first book in Bushnell’s origin story was published last year and, like "Sex and the City," is told from Carrie’s point of view. It follows the aspiring writer through her relationship with Sebastian Kydd and rivalry with popular girl Donna LaDonna.

HBO owns the rights to "Sex and the City," with corporate cousin the CW hearing the pitch in September and immediately committing to the project. Robb's reps can only hope that this project will have the same impact on her career as "SATC" did for Sarah Jessica Parker's.

The young actress joins the previously cast "Running Wilde's" Stefania Owen, who will play Carrie's 14-year-old sister in the project.

In addition to "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," Robb's credits include features "Because of Winn-Dixie," "Bridge to Terabithia" as well as "Jumper." The 18-year-old actress is repped by CAA, Untitled Entertainment and Schreck Rose.

Mining giant Rio Tinto said Wednesday it has unearthed a "remarkable" 12.76 carat pink diamond in Australia, the largest of the rare and precious stones ever found in the resources-rich nation.

Named the Argyle Pink Jubilee, the huge rough stone was found at Rio's pink diamond operations in the Kimberley region of Western Australia and would take 10 days to cut and polish, the miner said.

"This rare diamond is generating incredible excitement," said Josephine Johnson from Rio's Argyle Pink Diamonds division.

"A diamond of this calibre is unprecedented -- it has taken 26 years of Argyle production to unearth this stone and we may never see one like this again.

"The individual who gets to wear this remarkable pink diamond will be incredibly lucky indeed."

Though it would not speculate on how much the Jubilee was worth, Rio said extremely high quality pink diamonds could fetch in excess of US$1 million per carat, meaning it is likely to go for at least $10 million.

The light pink Argyle Jubilee is a similar colour to the 24-carat Williamson Pink given to Britain's Queen Elizabeth II as a wedding gift which was later set into a Cartier brooch for her coronation.

The Williamson was discovered in Tanzania in 1947 and is ranked among the finest pink diamonds in existence. It is the ninth-largest in the world.

A Rio spokesman told AFP the recent discovery was named in honour of the long-reigning British monarch, who is celebrating 60 years since her accession to the throne -- her diamond jubilee.

"This is the Queen's diamond jubilee year and there is a parallel in that the Queen had a solitaire pink diamond, gifted to her -- The Williamson Pink -- and set in the centre of a flower brooch in the year of her coronation," he said.

When asked if Rio was targeting the Argyle Jubilee diamond at the Queen the spokesman said: "Only if she is shopping for new jewellery. She will have lots of competition."

Rio produces more than 90 percent of the world's pink diamonds from the Argyle mine, and said large stones like the Jubilee typically went to museums, were gifted to royalty or end up at prestigious auction houses like Christie's.

Christie's had only auctioned 18 polished pink diamonds larger than 10 carats in its 244-year history, Rio added.

Soaring demand for the extremely rare jewel has seen pink diamond prices skyrocket in the past 20 years and they are now among "the most concentrated forms of wealth on earth and well in excess of white diamonds," Rio said.

The miner describes it as an "elite and discrete" market with buyers including royalty, heads of state, celebrities and "other very wealthy individuals."

When the Jubilee diamond has been cut and polished it will be graded by international experts and showcased globally in private settings before being sold by invitation-only tender later this year.

It is not known how the diamonds acquire their pink tinge but it is thought to come from a molecular structure distortion as the jewel forms in the earth's crust or ascends to the surface.

According to local Aboriginal folklore, the Argyle mine was formed when a barramundi fish jumped through the net of three local hunters. The diamonds are its scales glinting in the sun and the pink ones are the fish's heart.

While London presents its Fall 2012 menswear collections February 22, Milan Fashion Week begins, with Gucci fans able to watch the label's show live and read blogger's commentary at Gucci Connect.

Following from Simonetta Ravizza and Paola Frani at 09:30 and 11:30 respectively, the Gucci show kicks off at 14:00 and can be seen via http://www.gucciconnect.com/live/, with bloggers encouraged to add their opinions as the presentation unfolds.

Other big names launching proceedings tomorrow include Alberta Ferretti, who is just one of the designers whose presentation will be live-streamed via Italian Vogue's website.

Whitney Houston went to church one last time Saturday.

She was welcomed by family, friends and a virtual audience of millions who watched as the pop superstar was remembered as a child of God with the voice of an angel.

A voice that never forgot its roots.

So it was fitting that the mourners -- comforted and encouraged by the likes of Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys and R. Kelly -- heard the simple, but powerful, "Jesus Loves Me," this time performed by CeCe Winans.

Saturday's homegoing service was held at New Hope Baptist Church, where Houston, nicknamed "Nippy," was soloing in the junior choir by age 11.

Even with her ensuing fame, which brought six Grammy Awards, glamorous living and parties on the West Coast, and seven consecutive No. 1 singles, Houston never forgot her Newark, New Jersey, hometown.

Actor Kevin Costner, who starred with Houston in her first movie, "The Bodyguard," recounted how both of them grew up in the Baptist faith and had family members who sang in the choir.

"Church was our bond," Costner said.

Houston, the actor said, overcame her doubts about having what it took to earn the role in "The Bodyguard." She alone, Costner said, was the right choice.

"Now you are gone, too soon, leaving us with memories of a little girl who stepped bravely in front of this church, in front of the ones that loved you first," Costner said. "In front of the ones who loved you the best and loved you the longest. And boldly you stepped into the white hot light of the world's stage."

During the three-and-a-half-hour service, Houston's casket, covered with a large spray of flowers, rested in front of the altar.

While many of her fans lamented the fact that Houston's service was invitation-only, Pastor Marvin Winans, who delivered the eulogy, thanked Cissy Houston, Whitney's mother, for having the service at New Hope.

"That took a lot of courage. And because of that you brought the world to church today," Winans said during his eulogy.

The six-page funeral program contained color family photos and a letter from Cissy Houston.

The letter included the message, "God said 'It's time, Nippy. Your work is done.'" It was signed, "Thanks for being such a wonderful daughter. Love, Mommie."

Houston also left behind a daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, 18.

Through the tears and occasional laughter, performers and speakers spoke of Houston's loyalty.

Gospel singer and longtime friend BeBe Winans was visibly emotional as he recalled a memory of Houston's sense of humor.

With his sister, CeCe, by his side, he told the story of how Houston, then a major celebrity, informed them of her intent to sing background vocals on their new tour. When they told her she was too big a star to do that now, Houston responded, "You're my brother and sister, right?"

Winans said that was the Whitney Houston he would remember. Then he sang, "I Really Miss You."

A "who's who" of musical performers adapted lyrics in tribute to Houston.

Gospel singer and friend Kim Burrell sang a reworked version of Sam Cooke's "A Change is Gonna Come," adding glimpses of Houston's life to the lyrics. After finishing, she walked down to the pew where Cissy Houston sat and embraced her.

One of the most emotional moments in the service came when Keys sang "Send Me an Angel," her voice soaring into the rafters of the sanctuary.

Oprah Winfrey, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Spike Lee, and Houston's former husband, Bobby Brown, were among those in attendance. Brown walked by Houston's casket with his head down before the service began. Police said Brown and his entourage later left the church during the service.

At the time of her death, Houston was in the Los Angeles area for the 54th annual Grammy Awards and was to attend a party hosted by her longtime mentor and record producer, Clive Davis. She was discovered dead in her hotel suite. A cause of death has not been determined.

Mourners heard only a few indirect references to her personal battles. A close family friend told CNN on Tuesday that Houston had not used "hard drugs" for several years. Investigators are examining prescription drugs found in her hotel room.

Through her turmoil, speakers said, Houston remained true to her faith.

"In her final days, she held on to what you taught her to believe in," said Patricia Houston, Whitney's sister-in-law and former manager. "I promise you she did."

Ray Watson, Houston's bodyguard, recalled some of his last interactions with the singer.

"In our final days, she came in my room and she began to speak biblically," he said. "She laid her head on my shoulder and said, 'We are gonna be all right.'

Speakers, including Bishop T.D. Jakes and director-producer Tyler Perry, spoke of the promise of tomorrow.

"Death has not won. Your tears may flow. The flowers might wither," Jakes said. "You will find people you love may leave you outwardly, but (they) will not leave you inwardly."

At the conclusion of the service, Houston's iconic recording of "I Will Always Love You" was played as her coffin was removed from the sanctuary. Her mother leaned on her escorts as they helped her down the aisle.

Houston will be laid to rest Sunday at the Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, just south of Newark.

The list of trends for next fall is piling on as the catwalk previews of new designer collections near their homestretch: There's fur, leather and lace, cozy knits, military looks. The good news about the new styles is that you can wear them all at once.

The interest in layered separates bodes well for menswear-inspired styles, said Brandon Holley, editor-in-chief of Lucky magazine. "Men dress more in separates, and I think women are enjoying being out of the day dress. That's when style really comes in for me, when you pick the skirt that will go with the shirt, and the sweater and the bag, and a scarf."

Holley added, "It's not just layers, it's interesting layers."

The look also extends the life of any one piece through changes in weather. That summer top gets a sweater in the fall, Holley said, and the turtlenecks and knits are so light, you can wear them when it's warmer outside.

And, she said, it seems like it's going to be leather weather year-round.

At Wednesday's Michael Kors show at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week tents at Lincoln Center, models were styled with fur vests over leather trenches and a slip dress underneath, or a Mongolian-fur vest with a chunky alpaca pullover.

"Mix up the texture," Kors said backstage before the show. "Mohair, tweed, plaid, faux and real fur, satin and lace. "

But if a shopper had to choose just one thing, he'd go with a coat. "The coats and outerwear this season are outrageous."

MICHAEL KORS

Michael Kors always starts his shows with a couple and this time they were in his-and-her red-check outfits. He wore a tartan plaid coat and checkered trousers, she had on a blanket coat with fringe in the large-square pattern known as buffalo check, plus a cashmere tweed sweater and cashmere short shorts.

Their wardrobe, which also included a sexy, luxe glove-leather trenchcoat for her, and suede utility pants for him, was all about "sporty American glamour," Kors explained.

"I thought about the '30s and those glamorous Hollywood couples — the Clark Gables and Carole Lombards," he said in an interview backstage.

The Kors woman might wear a black wool sleeveless peacoat over a black beaded lace dress, or a camel-colored plaid mohair coat with a mohair sweater and plaid cropped pants.

Also shown were a black capelet jacket (a short cape) and pencil skirt, made of soft double-face cashgora (a mix of cashmere and angora), and a black-and-ivory mohair dress with a feather skirt.

Men's clothes were simpler, heavy on vercoats and slim, slightly short pants.

NANETTE LEPORE

Ever the Midwestern woman, Nanette Lepore sent a colorful but practical collection down the runway.

The Ohio native used deep, saturated reds, purples, blues and greens — no black — in her separates, prints and footwear. The line was modest too, no plunging necklines or slits to the thigh.

"The sort of overt sexiness of the last couple of years is gone and it's back to a more sort of modest or demure silhouette," Lepore said backstage. "Which I think is a great way for a woman to feel sexy because I don't think it's always about skin."

Lepore put pockets in her dresses and some models wore flats and loafers, not something often seen on the runway. The shoes were shiny jewel-toned blue, gold and pink. She used gold lame for a bouncy dress and jacket. The prints were intricate, inspired by tarot cards and gems.

J. MENDEL

Gilles Mendel's new collection moved seamlessly between the expertly crafted fur he is famous for and the goddess red-carpet gowns that are exposing his brand J. Mendel to a larger audience.

An ivory chiffon-embroidered gown with tulle insets and a fully pleated bottom seemed ready for the Oscars.

Mendel favored a light, feminine touch that fashion insiders haven't seen all that much in the first seven days of seasonal previews for fall. There was a long, graceful shape to the white cashmere coat with a white fox collar worn with a pleated chiffon blouse and wide-leg pants, and he put a fresh spin on the leather look that's been all over, using textured alligator, often paired with fur.

Those in attendance included Kelly Osbourne and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

MARCHESA

The audience was mesmerized by the Marchesa collection, partly because they wondered how the models could move in the elaborate creations shown by designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig.

The first outfit was a cream-colored, hand-embroidered coat with mermaid-hem pleated tulle gown. From there, they moved into even more elaborate designs, including a champagne-colored gown with feathers that seems to float between the layers of tulle and another strapless feathered dress that looked as if it floated in with the clouds.

The finale featured red embroidery on an otherwise sheer bodice with a high neck and a hand-draped taffeta ballskirt.

Fashion designers, retailers, editors and stylists settled into their routines Thursday for eight days of previews at New York Fashion Week with barely a blink at all the photographers' flashes: a sign of business-as-usual stability.

The luxury market that most of the runway shows speak to has, over the past year, steadily recovered at the retail level despite the volatile economy. The clothes to hit the catwalk in the early going showed a continued confidence in the colorblocking, tailoring and easy, elongated shapes that have been trickling into stores and will arrive in force come spring.

The brands BCBG Max Azria and Richard Chai Love kept colors basic and used hardly any embellishment, turning out straightforward, wearable clothes. Surely there are more flamboyant moments to come, but fashion is, after all, the marriage of art and commerce. Of course, there's the celebrity element, too, and Tadashi Shoji took care of red carpet looks with his Shanghai-visits-Hollywood gowns.

Cynthia Rowley melded high-tech touches, including a wall of screens simulcasting each look making its way down the runway, with clothes inspired by old-school craftsmen such as cobblers and welders.

BCBG MAX AZRIA

Cynthia Rowley says her fall collection was inspired by "mechanics, cobblers and leathermen. Welding, oil slicks. Women artists making big, strong work."
