Android: AndEngine - some feratures

While I was playing with AndEngine I discovered some capabilities of engine, cause of bad documentation it took time to discover this features.

- GenericPool<> - abstract class to impelement. It uses for reusing objects. This is very useful feaure to improve perfomance. Here is the description.

- EntityModifier - interface which allows to modify entities. There are a few implementations for different changes (all in org.anddev.andengine.entity.modifier package) even parallel and sequenced. Just register EntityModifier on Entity and it will be applied on drawing (entity.registerEntityModifier(final IEntityModifier pEntityModifier)).

- LayoutGameActivity - class to extend with your activity. It allows to map layout from res/layouts to your game scene and mix some views. Here is description.

AndEngine has no documentation, but it has a big amount of code examples and andengine forum which contains a lot of how tos.

There are several ways for drawing on Android:
OpenGL ES and Canvas

In my experiments I try draw complex objects with Canvas.
Canvas can draw: Bitmaps, Primitives, Text and Paths.

The Path class encapsulates compound (multiple contour) geometric paths consisting of straight line segments, quadratic curves, and cubic curves. It can be drawn with canvas.drawPath(path, paint), either filled or stroked (based on the paint's Style), or it can be used for clipping or to draw text on a path.

So here is some code for drawing a simple cloud:

Online education: Stanford and Berkley

Indeed we are living in the age of high technologies.

Just a couple years ago I could not even imagine that the education can be so affordable.

Here are some courses of Berkley and Stanford universities.

It's online and it's free.

My target are Computer Science courses? But there are other themes: Medicine, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Complex Systems.

First cources started last fall and I have watched ML-class course and I realy liked it. I hope this is the begining of great changes in education system.

Android: Screen recording problem solved (emulator + CamRecorder)

So my problem of screen recording is solved.
I found machine for my needs and take video from AVD.

I was using CamStudio. But OS was Windows 7 x64 and standart application of CamStudio do not support x64 system. But the portable version is working on x64. Good for me.

Result videos are not of highest quality, but acceptable. All videos will be in one big post of Monkey Live Wallpaper Release.

Inkscape: Sprite sheets

I'm a beginner in drawing and even more in sprite making. I think the my way of solving problems will be usefull to other newbies.

I heard about vector graphics and I think it is more usefull rather than raster. A big plus is scalable pictures without deterioration of quality. And my choise was Incscape.

First question was: how to draw (cause I never draw on computer before)?

This problem I solved by my self with circles and rectangles =).
Then week after I found tutorial. It make my life much easier.

Second was: how to make animation?

I merged this and this.
(Notice: make background rectangle bigger than picture inside for making moves "wide".
I made this mistake and hd problems than)

Third was: how to make spritesheets?

Cause of my bad english I could not find acceptable solution fast (of course free).
But than from one post find this.

In result I make more or less acceptable spritesheets.

Android: Screen recording problem

I don't have machine which is powerfull enough to run AVD with good perfomance to make screen recording. I thougth that this problem was sold long ago. But when I was searched solutions, I founded only 2 ways:

1. Based on ADB from Android SDK.

This solution is too slow for my needs: it has lags when taking frames from device.

2. The native application developed by Media Solution: Screen Cast&Screen Recorder.
But the main problem for me is that the device nust be rooted.

So Im thinking of finding a powerfull machine to run AVD and take video.
