Hi David,

We have recently completed our latest new build in Crofton Downs, Wellington.
The build included SUMNER Schist’s Mosgiel Schist. The plans and specifications were easy to follow, with quality control managed with the onsite checklist provided by SUMNER Schist.

Purchasing the stone was easy. The online quantity calculator made the process effortless. The quote even included the installation. With SUMNER Schist based in Auckland, and the purchase process online; our initial hesitation was put to rest by a simple phone call to the sales team. Extremely professional is the only way to describe SUMNER Schist. The product arrived as scheduled, directly to the site and in excellent condition.

Their own tradesmen who were extremely professional and a pleasure to work with carried out the installation. We were kept fully informed and they began the install on time. SUMNER Schist definitely provided a professional service, quality product and exceptional tradesmen resulting in a cladding installation which sets this home apart from its neighbours.

My professional career spans more than 30 years in construction and design in a multidisciplinary private company where I am currently employed as an Architectural Engineer. We look forward to using SUMNER Schist in the future to assist us in producing homes with that special WOW factor.

Make sure your cladding will be certified by Council before you start.

Before starting a project it is important to know that it can be completed successfully. With cladding this means obtaining a code compliance certificate (CCC). A CCC provides a guarantee of the quality of building work and will help you insure your property or sell it in the future. Let's make sure you can obtain a CCC even before you start.

What documents do I need for cladding?
Auckland City Council's approval for SUMNER Cladding lists three additional SUMNER documents they require to issue a CCC. You send these documents with your CCC application after the final building inspection.

1) Copy of applicators approval certificate from Original Stone.
2) Copy of Workmanship Statement from the applicator.
3) Copy of Manufacturers Warranty.

FREE DOCUMENT ASSISTANCE: If you have used our SUMNER installers then we have already made these documents available to you. Navigate to our website and request documents under CCC Assistance. Just another helpful tip from the team at SUMNER Cladding.

Can I use my own installers?
Not if you need a CCC. Original Stone only emails Applicators Approval Certificates for work completed by our fully qualified installers. Without this certificate councils will decline CCC applications. Don't get caught out, use a qualified SUMNER installer.

Industry experts are increasingly frowning upon cladding systems that 'piggy back' upon other 3rd party cavity, board or adhesive systems.

We regularly get asked "can I just stick the stone up over fibrolite?" The answer is No. Not if you want it to comply with the NZBC. All compliant systems are designed to perform to limited specific requirements in order to satisfy the NZBC. Installing one or multiple cladding systems over the top of other systems is often NOT tested and cannot demonstrate it will comply with the NZBC.

SUMNER veneer by Original Stone is seamless from frame to finished stone and does not employ other 3rd party systems. We have tested our own SUMNER board and SUMNER adhesive. No risk of incompatibility, voided warranties, weather tightness or structural failure. SUMNER has all been tested independently to perform. So if you ask "can I just stick the SUMNER Stone up over SUMNER Board with SUMNER Adhesive," the answer is yes! See our appraisal, and specify with confidence.

Make your dollars go further and still use real Bluestone for your boundary wall...

Stonemasons will quote $350- $800/m2 to construct a boundary wall. Doing both sides of the wall doubles the cost, meaning $700-$1600 which makes this an expensive project. Many clients are now electing to construct a block wall, and cladd SUMNER Bluestone veneer to the block facing the street, and plaster the inside.

This lowers the cost and takes up less of your section. Our system does not suffer from lime bleeding down the face like traditional stonework. We even have a PS3 to swiftly pass this through council so there are not time delays.
