SO CALLED AUTHORS WITH THEIR HEADS IN THE SAND

When I submitted my FREE OFFER on some literary forums, I received some very angry criticisms that required me to respond. The statement below was my answer.

I don't believe you people. By your reactions, one would think I was asking for your souls.

Yes, I want to make some sales on my book. And as great authors, you're legends of your own imagination. Do your egos really make you so cynical or do you like to scorn and dismiss just for the fun of it? My offer's not meant for egocentric authors with a chip on their shoulders, but for individuals who have to content with being constantly rejected by mainstream publishers.

This is an opportunity for someone with some creative imagination to have their book designed professionally. And if you can't see that or your not imaginative enough, well then bad luck for you.

As for copyright…

There are many books written by various authors, under the same banner and with the same characters (shared-world series books) e.g. dragonlance, forgotten realms and more. They don't seem to have any problems with copyright, but I suppose those authors must be more professional.

As the main author and holder of the copyright, I would ensure that derivative works would carry their own copyright. WITH NO ROYALTIES PAYED TO ME. This is an opportunity for an ambitious author to get their book produced to look professional. And for myself to get some sales on a book I designed to be "THE STORYTELLER'S HANDBOOK".

How much do you think it would cost for a professional graphic designer to design a book and produce artwork? And have you ever got a price for a full colour illustration lately?

For whoever is truly interested, one can always contact a few graphic designers and illustrators for some independent prices. I'm sure they'll get a shocking surprise!

When presenting to a literary agent or book publisher, wouldn't a finished book look better? I know the norm is that when the manuscript is accepted, the publishers organise the design and artwork including illustrations. I also know that the same publisher or literary agent gets thousands of manuscripts to read. Which do you think would standout on the editor's desk, a finished book with an attractive cover or typed white pages? I believe that the finished product would have a much better chance of getting noticed!

After all, book publishers wouldn't present to their distributors and wholesalers with just typed white pages. So if the publishers rely on presentation, shouldn't we present a finished product to them?

And we all know that print on demand is now a booming industry, because of all the self publishing companies promoting their services, e.g. lulu, blurb, cafepress and more. The author has the added benefit of having their work completed and ready to download.

If you can't see the potential of my FREE OFFER then don't bother applying, but don't trash something just because you can. And let everyone else make up their own minds.
