Sa profondeur reste faible, de quatre à cinq mètres à l'amont (ouest) et une partie avale (à l'est) envasée, d'aspect marécageux, exondable en été.</span></div><br />

Il est considéré comme le plus haut barrage en voûte d'Afrique et le plus grand du Maroc en production énergetique. Outre sa capacité d'irrigation concernant la plaine de Tadla, qui appartient à la plaine intérieure pré-atlasique du Tadla (3500 km<sup>2</sup>), prolongée dans la région de Marrakech-Tensift-Al-Haouz par la plaine des Sraghna.Le barrage a permis de mettre en valeur 69 500 ha de terres fertiles sur 125 km de longueur. La politique du gouvernement marocain au début des années 60 visait à atteindre l'irrigation d'un million d'hecatres. Derrière l'"OUKA" existe un domaine skiable aussi important que celui de Courchevel en France. Un projet d'aquipement avait été réalisé dans les années 70 prévoyant 10.000 lits et un golf pour une station été/hiver. L'attentat de Skirat a tout arrêté. La possibilité touristique existe toujours.</span></div><br />
