New Manila Tourist Attraction

2013-04-22T18:49:00.002-07:00

Manila is one of the country's oldest cities and by old, we aren't referring to it's 500 year history. By old, we mean OLD... as in worn out, debilitated, seedy, grimy, filthy... OLD.

Sure, there's much that can be done in terms of restoration and preservation. Oh sure, we can listen to people like Paulo Alcazaren or Gerry Acuzar who are somewhat known for advocating the restoration and preservation of old buildings and houses. But how much of that can you really take?

I mean, I love visiting places with some historical significance or other once in a while.

But heck, I'm really more into eating at new restaurants, bars, theaters (I don't mean movie theaters but grand stages for the performing arts), dance halls, and such.

I crave newness and vibrancy more than getting acquainted with the musty, moldy facets of places like Ongpin, Quiapo, Malate, Escolta, Ermita, or Intramuros.

If you can stifle the urge vomit in your mouth after inhaling all the polluted air and inhaling the shit smelling mystery vapors from open storm drains... if you can resist the urge to shove and kick all the people away in these crowded areas... if you can stand the racket of all the effing jeeps, vendors hawking their wares, various establishments blaring out 'music' to attract attention, and other such sensory nuisances.

Really! Most of Manila is a layer of eyesore on another layer of eyesore and it seems no amount of cleaning up or fixing is going to get rid of all of its fugly features.

What I want and NEED at this point is something new and shiny in Manila! Problem is, there isn't anymore free space within the city.

Because De Lima Ignores the Rule of Law

2012-04-26T11:44:00.002-07:00

In the coming days, Philippine Department of Justice Secretary Leila De Lima's ability or disability to see beyond the color yellow will be revealed.

According to Manila Blog Man, the lawyers of embattled realty magnate Delfin Lee, President of Globe Asiatique, filed at the Supreme Court "an ex-parte temporary restraining order (TRO) directing the Department of Justice (DOJ) to cease and desist from filing the syndicated estafa case against him and the other respondents."

Manila Blog Man's entry on whether the justice secretary will respect a TRO from the Supreme Court or not spells out the dilemma of De Lima:

The filing of the petition came after the Court of Appeals 17th Division on Monday gave the DOJ the go signal to file syndicated estafa case against Lee and several others in connection with the case of the Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF) against Globe Asiatique.

The lawyers of Lee questioned the CA move on pure questions of law, arguing that the decision setting aside the injunction issued by Judge Rolando Mislang of Pasig Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 167 violated settled jurisprudence and basic constitutional rights of Lee.

With the CA decision and the appeal of Lee to the High Court, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima is put to test on whether she will contradict herself by filing the information in court, who declared in earlier cases that an order or decision against which a motion for reconsideration or appeal is filed is not yet executory.

The post likewise points out other instances where De Lima wobbled in justifying her actions. In one instance, she single-handedly denied Former President Gloria Arroyo her constitutional right to travel even though she had not been formally charged in court for violating any law. In another instance, putting herself above the Judicial Branch of Government, she pushes for the arrest of Senator Panfilo Lacson.

It will be recalled that when the SC on Nov. 15, 2011 issued a TRO on the inclusion of former President Arroyo and husband Mike Arroyo in the immigration watch list, which, in effect, allowed them to go abroad, De Lima said the TRO was not yet final and executory until after the government motion for reconsideration had been filed and denied by the SC.

In the case of Sen. Panfilo Lacson, De Lima has said that the arrest warrant against the senator remained in effect even if the Court of Appeals had voided it because of the options still given to the government then, including appealing the CA decision.

Does De Lima really have the capacity to go beyond brown-nosing the President and follow the rule of law?

John Lloyd says Ayos Dito PH is DA BOMB!

2012-04-24T18:30:00.000-07:00

The runaway success of this blog has apparently reached the eyes of the gods of advertising and we have been tapped to promote this "buy and sell" website called "Ayos Dito PH".

It's the Philippine equivalent of E-bay, but better because it's run by Filipinos for Filipinos. How cool is that?

Now, if you've ever been told that you Facebook too much instead of earning money, well, here's the thing... You can use Ayos Dito PH with your Facebook account and actually earn money.

Aside from having an account over at Facebook, there is a new online passion sweeping the Pinoy online community---buying and selling. More and more Filipinos are using the Internet as a platform for selling and buying big-ticket items throughout the country.

Buying and selling is as old as bartering. Many Filipinos have earned extra income offering their pre-loved items to other Filipinos who need it. Before, buying and selling is a problematic activity. For one to succeed in buy and sell, you need to post an ad in a newspaper.

Now, there’s a cheaper, hassle-free and fast way of offering pre-loved items to those who need it—visit and post free ads on online websites such as www.AyosDito.ph.

AyosDito.ph, is the preferred online marketplace and was awarded the No.1 Classified Ads site for 2011 by Digital Filipino Search profile index. AyosDito.ph is a joint-venture of Singapore Press Holdings Limited (SPH) and Schibsted ASA. Both SPH and Schibsted have buy and sell websites in more than 30 countries: Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, Sweden, Brazil, Austria, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Venezuela and Vietnam, to name a few.

Focused on having the best online user experience

AyosDito.ph is a site designed for easy use by first timers and veteran online users alike. Visit the site http://www.AyosDito.ph and you’ll find a map of the Philippines, and a list of regions. There is a search tab in the site which you can use to search for items you want to sell.

Despite the plain no-frills look of the site, AyosDito.ph is fast, easily accessible by mobile or computer and no matter how slow the connection of your ISP, the pages and photos load really fast.

1. Click the post a free ad button
2. Fill in details and attach photos of the item you are selling
3. Wait for the confirmation email that your ad has been posted

Jon says: “ At Ayos Dito.ph, items are categorized by region so that it is easier to find great deals near you. Rather than having to pay extra for shipping or worry about not receiving the correct item or having to wait for weeks for items to arrive from abroad, we encourage people to meet up at mutually convenient places for both buyers and sellers to ensure you get the best possible deal.”

Why take the time to review ads?

Jon says: “ At AyosDito.ph we have a team of reviewers who go through the ads if information is missing such as contact details or if the photos are not suitable for online viewing. They also are on the look-out for tell-tale signs that the sellers fraudulent. We have a team that goes through ads and sends it back to you in case your ad needs to be edited.”
We also like to keep the ads fresh and updated. We delete ads after 60 days so that you don’t get dead or outdated links. We would really want it be as hassle- free for buyers and sellers as possible.

Is online buying and selling just for those with credit cards i.e the rich?
Santico says,

“Buying and Selling online is for all Filipinos. With internet penetration at about 30% of total Filipinos, we tend to think that online buying and selling has to be limited to big ticket items. Everyone has something to sell, and everyone has something they need to buy. Just look into your closet and bodegas and you will find something that you no longer need and others may find useful. Mostly online buy and sell sites have cars, computers, gadgets and real estate content. But what people don’t realize is that there is an opportunity for anybody to sell things they find at home that others may still find useful, outgrown items like baby items such as cribs and strollers, furniture that no longer fit at home, or even clothes and shoes that relatives have sent from abroad but never fit you can be easily sold online.”
AyosDito.ph recently launched its informational campaign through its television commercial featuring multi-awarded actor John Lloyd Cruz. Santico says that with John Lloyd Cruz’s popularity, it will spark more interest for Filipinos to indulge in this new online experience, that is hassle-free and allows you to build relationships with other Filipinos.
