Something to Celebrate:: Aaron and Melissa Christofic

Aaron and I knew right away that this was "it"! We are pretty opposite of one another. He is laid back and easy going and I tend to be a worrywart. However, we bring out the best in one another and balance each other beautifully. We work hard at our relationship. We make sure that we make time for our family and friends, and most importantly our daughter and each other. We have a really strong circle of people around us that lift us up as a couple. At the end of the day, we are best friends who happen to be very much in love.

I really only have two regrets, but they are biggies! One is that we didn’t hire a videographer. It wasn’t as popular at the time and I completely overlooked that detail. As a bride, you are so busy the day of your wedding, being pulled in a million different directions, and the day goes by in warp speed! I can hardly remember parts of it! And photographs only tell a certain amount of the story.

My other regret goes hand in hand with the first one. I didn’t hire a wedding planner. And if I had, I probably wouldn’t have overlooked a videographer and someone else would have been handling the situations that are sure to arise with a wedding. Also I think that there were a lot of little things that we cut corners on in order to save money. I think that a wedding planner would have helped us create the perfect wedding but also helped us use our money in the most effective way. Looking back I think we spent a lot of money that we didn’t need to. If I had it to do all over again, I would spend whatever I needed to in order to have peace of mind and a video that we could show our children.

My only advise is that this will be one of the most beautiful days of your life, so fill it with beautiful things and people who mean the most to you. Create a day that is about love and the beginning of your life together! You don’t have to go into debt to accomplish that, but you want to invest wisely in the things that will contribute to the beauty of your day, not take your attention away from it.

Stylish Papery:: Jessica and David

I was lucky to team up with Kelly at A Savvy Event out of Sonoma California on this beautiful custom design wedding stationery for one of her clients. I love working with Kelly, she is an amazing wedding designer/planner make sure to visit her website and see her work.

As a designer I love it when I can start with the save the date design and finish it all the way to a matching thank you. And that is exactly what I got to do for the bride and groom. For the save the date (shown above), Kelly sent me pictures of the linens that were going to used and I went from there. I was so happy to hear that the client loved it and there it all began.

When a client is happy with the first design concept (the save the date shown above) I always want to get my design mind and soul on the rest of the pieces. After a few different drafts this is what the happy couple moved forward with as their wedding invitation.

In each of the pieces (shown here is the matching RSVP+ Envelope) I tried to have an design element that pulled it all together without it being way to matchie-matchie. I am offend accused of this in my home decor that everything is way to balanced for having a designer mind. I guess it is my inner self wanting more balance in this crazy life of weddings I live everyday.

We complemented the tables with these table numbers.

I got the phone call from Kelly that the escort cards were going to be fun cookie recipes for the guest to take home with them. I loved the ideas and the cookies! One Sunday I made them for the family and they were delicious!

I love when bride and grooms doing a wedding ceremony program. So often it is a detail that is missed but it really does give another finished piece to the mix.

As a final touch we did gift tags with a Mark Twain quote “Too much of anything is bad, but too much champagne is just right." The bride and groom had these attached to bottles of champagne for their guests in their hotel rooms. What a great little surprise. Thank you again Kelly with A Savvy Events for letting me be a part of them team!

Something to Celebrate :: Brandy turning 40!

I had to share this event because it is so dear to me. I had the chance to be a part of the planning of my very best friend’s 40th birthday party. Now when it comes to party planning it comes naturally to me and most of the time it is a stress release (yes you read that correctly) but this party was the opposite. Everything had to be just perfect for my girl Brandy.

Of course I started designing invitation and this is where the stress all began. It had to be the right shade of pink if not I knew my girl would not LOVE it. Because it was a surprise I had to keep the details from her which made it even more stressful because I tell her everything.

Invitation design will be available on our new Wedding Tulle site…coming soon. She loved it!

We had always talked about a “what if” I gave a party in her honor so I knew some details on her wish list but other than that I had to get creative. I decided we would do a glamorous red carpet party with beautiful gowns and tuxedos. Thank goodness I have contacts because we had to have the perfect dress for the birthday girl.

We had all the guests outside with cameras like the paparazzi so when the birthday girl arrived for her premier she had a memorable entrance. Steve Allard with TSPdj.com up lighted the house and had the perfect music playing in the background to get it the impact we needed. Of course we had to have the red carpet (its the details that make the party)!

I knew the food needed to be Mexican because for one, its Brandy’s favorite and second who doesn’t love Mexican food? I knew my time was limited with the holidays approaching so I called Jennifer with Hillcrest Catering and the food was delicious!

The cake was easy. I called the ladies at Cakes by Request and I added some sparkly cake jewelry by Bel Aire Bridal and it was perfect!

The party favors were a no brainer since Brandy is a lover of chocolate. We filled these adorable boxes with chocolates from our local Candy Box store. Hmmmmm!

Thanks to this loving husband we were able to celebrate his beautiful wife in style. Just the way my girl always wanted. Thank you guys for letting me be a part of it and letting me put my own touches throughout the night.

Something to Celebrate :: Ashley’s Bridal Shower

Well it was a given when my cousin on my husband’s side of family was getting married that I was going to throw the bridal shower. I mean if there is a party to be given, I want to do it! Ashley is a very kind soul and I knew I wanted to shower her with love this day.

Ashley demanded that the party be hassle free since she did not want to put anyone out. See what I mean about being a kind soul! In last few years Ashley and now her hubby Todd, have donated their time to saving animals and enjoy the outdoors together so I knew I wanted to bring some natural elements. Since I was assisting in the wedding I knew her colors where navy blue and lime green. So with that I created this bridal shower invitation

I had decided to honor the wishes of the bride to be and keep the food very simple with fruits, veggies, cheeses and sandwiches.

I think we can all agree that a party is not a party without some yummy dessert! I decided to do cupcakes because I feel they have a playfulness to them and who doesn’t LOVE a cupcake!

Cupcakes were made by Cake’s by Request if your not following their facebook make sure you do!

I had decided to do a marshmallow dipped in caramel and then rolled in either coconut, chopped almonds or pecans as our favor and they were a hit! Peri and Sandi at Cake’s by Request mentioned them to me so I whipped them up they day before the party…the best thing they were EASY!

As a little natural element I was inspired by something I saw on Pinterest and I had each guest write a message to Ashley on a rock using paint pens. I then read them out loud to the guest and of course a few giggles were shared.

The above rock was by Ashley’s mom and I think we can all agree its a perfect one.

Thank you Ashley for letting me be a part of your wonderful day. You are an amazing woman and it has be an honor watching you become who you are today.

Something to Celebrate :: Hudson’s turning 2!

So before I throw myself into the bridal world for the next several months I wanted to share a piece of me, my son Hudson.

He is the joy of my life (along with my two step kids Trent and Andrea and my handsome husband). As a family we just celebrated Hudson turning 2. Now if you know me, you know I love throwing parties in my spare time. I told myself I was not going to go overboard with the details for his party but of course I couldn’t resist. Once his 1st birthday was over, I secretively started planning his 2nd birthday party…crazy I know! I wanted the theme to reflect him and our family of 5 and so it was easy, the theme had to be sports related.

I designed his invitation to be an admission ticket to his party. Adding some special touches that only our family and friends would know (i.e. the ticket number was his actual birth date).

Since both Trent and Andrea are amazing at the sports they play (everything besides “go fish”) I wanted to have each sport represented. So the cake was a basketball and soccer ball to highlight what sport we are doing at this moment. The amazing and yummy cake and cupcakes were made by Angela O’Rouke.

And the desserts would not be complete without sport cake pops made by Ashley Park, owner and creator of Wooden Spoon. I should have order several more because people loved them! Here I added football and baseball.

Now a party is not a party without some good food. I knew I wanted it to be a variety of ball park food and so what better than, hot dogs, nachos, soft salty pretzels and warm garlic fries!

I love the details, so here I made a mini concession stand filled with a few yummies.

And of course the birthday boy needed just the perfect outfit and so I made him his own sports shirt and hat.

This day will be a moment in time that I will always cherish. It was touching as a mom to have our family and friends there loving on my sweet Hudson. Now onto his 3rd birthday celebration…I will try to contain myself.

It has been a goal of mine to feature an invitation design by “yours truly” weekly but making the time has been a struggle for me. So today I woke up and said to myself “ Self since I haven’t been able to squeeze in a 25th hour in the 24 hours I have been given…so I am going to face the music and own it'”. So this leads me into introducing you to our weekly “Stylish Papery” blog post.

My client came to me over a year ago to help pick out her wedding dress here at Always Elegant Bridal and Tuxedo. As we got to know each other she learned I had my hands into everything when it comes to weddings. She asked me to design her wedding stationery and how could I resist. She provided me with some details and allowed me to design from there.

We wanted her invitation to feel like a little gift when her guests received it. This bride was definitely a sister of mine from another life because she insisted that crystals be added to every little detail as possible. Who doesn’t love a little sparkle in their life!?!

This invitation suite include a directional and accommodation card which accompanied a RSVP card. Each card had an element of design that made each their own and allowed the overall design flow throughout.

We designed a unique RSVP card that allowed the guests to give advise to the couple (see below). What a great idea! The bride is then going to put them in a scrapbook to look back on.

10 Tips for an Excellent Wedding: By Sara Read

1. Overall Planning: Think about the big picture! Before jumping into all the details, take some time to envision the overall end result (what is your dream wedding?) Organize all your thoughts and great ideas, and then, with a goal in mind, start with the shopping and decorating as a calm, cool and collected bride with a great plan.

2. Budget: There’s no need to spend a ton of money to have a beautiful wedding; you just have to spend the money you do have wisely! Remember, being over-the-top is not a necessity – less can be more. Some of the most elegant weddings are done with well-executed simplicity.

3. Expect the Unexpected: Always keep your guests guessing to keep them eagerly anticipating what they will experience next! Have something different happen every 30 minutes. Introduce a new food or drink, change the lighting or the music, have a new type of entertainment, move locations, or choose to have unique wedding timeline to change up things for your guests so it’s not just another cookie-cutter wedding! Your guests will have unforgettable memories.

4. Be organized: In order to avoid feeling overwhelmed by the number of tasks ahead of you, stay organized. Make an action plan by week of what you are going to do, and keep track of progress. This will help you to keep your thoughts and plans in order.

5. Start planning as early as possible: Places and service providers are booked earlier and earlier each year. So to insure that you get exactly what you want, start early. It also gives you plenty of time to find and investigate other options if your first choice does not work out.

6. Compromise: Knowing how to compromise will save a lot of stress through the planning process. You, your groom, and families all should enjoy the wedding and be proud of it. While the bride and groom should do what makes them happy, be open to suggestions and sensitive to the feelings of those around you. If you disagree with their recommendations, speak about it calmly and diplomatically until an understanding is reached. It will make the day more enjoyable for all!

7. Invite people to participate in your wedding party because they care about you, not out of obligation: I can't tell you how often a bride asks someone to be in her wedding out of obligation, and is only frustrated by that individual's lack of interest and participation. This is one of the most important days of your life. Only involve people who genuinely share in your happiness and love. If they don't, there is no way they can behave the way you might expect them to. It is impossible.

8. Décor: When it comes to table centerpieces and reception floral arrangements, ask for a mix of high and low arrangements, or a variation of three correlating arrangement designs (that vary in cost) mixed throughout the tables. This combination will help cut costs from having to pay for all large arrangements for each table and will also add aesthetic variety to the look of your reception on many visual levels.

9. Food and Beverage: Food can be so much more than a meal—you can even use it to help convey your personalities and include your guests in your love story! For example, instead of just selecting regular foods to serve, create a menu that is inspired by places you and your groom have visited, your heritages, or your favorite dishes.

10. Hire an Event Planner: Hiring an event planner will help to keep your overall budget in check but most importantly having a go to person will allow you and your family to enjoy this treasured day. No matter what your bridal personality having an Event planner standing by your side on your big day will ease your mind and send you blissfully soaring of into married life without a hitch!

Opera House Event: By Sara Read

This week I was inspired by a famed muse. Can you speculate whom it may be? I aspire to impart with you a distinct, whimsical, and fanciful gathering. This visualization may perhaps be perceived as a wedding, a combined bachelorette and bachelor bash, masquerade of course, or whichever festivity your psyche can dream up.

I have disclosed in the preceding, start your event off right. Engage your invitees in the intended theme so they may participate fully. Send out invitations harmonizing your concept. Adding unique touches throughout your event will add drama and excitement.

Candles along with red and black accents enhance the whimsical element of your affair. Using votive candles designed for your place cards and enlisting guest’s assistance in transporting each candle to their seat will intensify the décor. Here there is a sneak peak of box five; you never know who may perhaps appear there.

Flowers are influential to any occasion. Heaps and Heaps of red roses with the addition of crystals and black feathers will assist in solidifying your theme.

This week I was contemplating how cruel our weather has been and found myself wishing summer was upon us. This thought got me thinking of the beach and of course that brainwave led to Beach wedding!

This week I was dazzled by our beautiful landscape, encompassing us from the Buttes to the Sierra Nevada’s. While driving with my sister, enjoying a bit of girl time and exploring our little corner of the world, this concept burst into my imaginative thinker!

Kick off your theme appropriately through invitations reflecting the overall vision for your big day. Adding engaging components to your wedding party will also be distinctive to your flair.

Custom Save the date Designs:: A Savvy Event

In my business I get to work with all different wedding professionals and it gives me the opportunity to team up with some amazing people. On this project, I did just that! I was able to work with Kelly McLeskey-Dolata (wedding planner/designer) of A Savvy Event where we custom designed a wedding save the date for one of her brides. Kelly gave me the colors of the wedding and some samples of the linens that are going to be used in the reception to give me some inspiration for the design. And this is what I came up with. As a bonus we provided some hotel accomodations information for her guests on the back side. Beautiful and functional…my two loves! Now back to Kelly.

From planning her birthday parties as a child to serving as concierge at some of the country's best luxury hotels, Kelly McLeskey-Dolata has always had a love for events and turning everyday activities into amazing experiences. Following college, where she studied marketing and design, Kelly went to work for The Ritz-Carlton, learning the finer details of hospitality and event planning at the hotel group's Vail, Colorado and New York City properties. In 2006, wanting to return to the area in which she grew up, Kelly accepted a position at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn, where she planned more than 350+ weddings in her four-year tenure as Wedding and Special Events Manager. Each week I hope to feature a gown that we adore to give you inspiration in searching for your perfect dress. Since I purchased Always Elegant Bridal and Tuxedo over 6 years ago I have remained faithful to this line and they have never failed me. For past few season I have neglected to bring the Jasmine Couture line because I have always loved there Collection line, but this Spring season I am so excited about their designs. This is one of my favorites! I can’t wait for it arrive so I can slip it on…my hubby might need to ask me to renew.

This Jasmine Couture gown is made of their lux organza and matte taffeta. Its strapless sweetheart gown is accented with their new black wasitband and flower making it one of this seasons best!

It was the day of October 16. The day was exquisite and ideal for nuptials. Instantly thrilled the moment I was out the door and on my way to the venue for set-up and coordination. When I arrived I was hailed by a jovial and cheery little mob.

With a modest smile and lots of breath mints I was armed and ready to orchestrate the ceremony. I began by assembling the bridal party and delicately reassuring the bride. After a moment of calm I gave a delicate nod to our adored DJ. The symphony had commenced. One after the other executed a perfect procession down the aisle graceful and elegant. The bride sparkled with enchantment, and guests were speechless.

All was well with food and drink bestowed upon the bride and groom. Toasting and dancing fulfilled the remainder of the evening.

I lingered long after my time was up, to watch the merriment taking place. Sitting in the corner at that moment I realized what an extraordinary day a wedding day is. I realized that everyone deserves joy however big or small. I will carry this with me always and remember every wedding is treasured.

I have been married to my handsome hubby for six months now, and I would love to share with you our wedding day! When designing your own wedding it is vital to be organized and prepared. I learned this quickly while planning my own special day. Our wedding day truly was remarkable in many ways, from getting ready with my delightful bridesmaids, to dancing the night away with my new husband. There are countless key moments that render a memorable wedding, the gaze you exchange when strolling down the aisle, the first dance, and the conversation you hold in between these passing moments. I wanted to share with you some of our special moments.

When developing our wedding we had numerous meetings with our florist. I put my trust and confidence in them, everything they touched sparkled with charm. Our flowers incorporated pink roses, sabone lilies, and even purple hydrangea. The centerpieces for our reception were magnificent trees with dangling flowers and candles generating a romantic glimmer that filled the room.

Our reception was bursting with merriment. TSP DJ created a fabulously animated atmosphere for the entire reception. He played exciting tunes that everyone could enjoy. The lighting he provided made the little details stand out and gave way to a dance floor jam-packed with enthusiasm.

Always Elegant Bridal outfitted our bridal party. Bree has a sixth sense about color, she flawlessly adorned each groomsman and bridesmaid. She was of skillful assistance in harmonizing our colors perfectly. Personally I call her the Gandhi of weddings!

In today’s world of hustle and bustle occasionally we crave a little magic. Each wedding or event is acquiring knowledge in order to grant the special attention each client deserves. I have learned what is important to a wedding, make the bride and groom happy number one. Second is keeping the hiccups to yourself, and lastly enjoy and rejoice in the promise of a new life together. With a little time and research and dash of expertise your dream day is only around the bend. As a wedding and event planner this is my goal for every bride and groom that grants me the honor of being their go to gal. My fondest wish is to grant them the feeling I had on my wedding day, a feeling of true bliss and one of exquisite happiness.
