Equities ended a seven-day winning streak Friday, on decline in Reliance Industries and ADAG group shares. Subdued global markets did little for support. Profit booking was seen in metals and oil & gas while capital goods and FMCG stocks showed strength.
Shares of Reliance Industries and Anil Ambani-owned ADAG Group were under pressure after statement from Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani at Annual General Meeting failed to lift investor sentiments. These stocks had run-up on huge expectations of Ambani brothers coming together after their recent truce.
In the AGM, Mukesh Ambani said his company was ready to provide gas to power plants controlled by his brother Anil Ambani and was looking forward to a "harmonious and constructive" relationship with ADAG.
A lot of hype was created ahead of the Reliance Industries AGM. It was business as usual at the meet. All the media-hype ended in a few minutes and ADAG stocks reacted negatively.

Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex closed at 17570.82 down 45.87 points or 0.26 per cent. The index touched a high of 17721.99 and low of 17525.29.
National Stock Exchange’s Nifty ended at 5262.60, down 12.25 points or 0.23 per cent. The broader index hit a high of 5302.30 and low of 5245.50.
Our market moved higher ahead of the RIL AGM. Now that the event is over, we will once again start tracking global cues. The impact of monsoon will only be known in next 4-5 weeks.
The BSE Midcap Index was down 0.51 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index edged 0.50 per cent lower.
Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Capital Goods Index was up 0.62 per cent and BSE FMCG Index moved 0.55 per cent higher. BSE Metal Index slipped 1.18 per cent and BSE Oil&gas Index was down 1.10 per cent.
Sensex gainers included Hero Honda (1.81%), HUL (1.72%), BHEL (1.39%), L&T (1.29%) and SBI (1.17%).
Larsen & Toubro’s Buildings & Factories Operating Company – part of its Construction Division – has secured orders aggregating to Rs 1440 crore for the construction of residential towers, township and factory buildings.
Losers included Reliance Communications (-3.58%), Reliance Infrastructure (-3.01%), Sterlite Industries (-2.34%), Maruti Suzuki (-2.01%) and Mahindra & Mahindra (-1.96%).

Market breadth was negative on the NSE with 1956 declines and 1153 advances.

Indian markets broke out of a narrow range and ended higher Thursday, as traders took note of an upmove in Europe. All the sectoral indices ended in the positive terrain, led by capital goods and oil&gas space.
Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex ended at 17616.69, up 153.82 points or 0.88 per cent. The 30-share index hit a high of 17647.42 and low of 17394.90.
National Stock Exchange’s Nifty was at 5274.85, up 41.50 points or 0.79 per cent. The index touched a high of 5285.55 and low of 5206.55.
Nifty has been making higher top higher bottom formation on daily chart, which indicates further upmove towards the recent 52-week high 5400 level. We are in safe zone till the time Nifty sustains above medium term support of 5000 level

The BSE Midcap Index was up 0.41 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index edged 0.58 per cent higher.
Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Capital Goods Index advanced 1.78 per cent, BSE Oil&gas Index moved 1.33 per cent higher and BSE Auto Index gained 0.93 per cent.
L&T (3.30%), Tata Motors (2.80%), Jaiprakash Associates (2.60%), Reliance Communications (2.30%) and Jindal Steel (2.20%) led the Sensex upmove.
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) will be raising $2 billion for its Rajpura thermal power project in Punjab. India’s largest engineering company will be raising this amount through its special purpose vehicles, Nabha Power Ltd. The state-of-the-art 1,320-mw mega thermal plant is likely to be completed by January 2014.
Jaiprakash Associates has picked up 50 per cent stake in the fertiliser division of Duncans Industries.
All eyes will be on Reliance Industries meeting on Friday as investors will be keen to hear Mukesh Ambani’s plans on entry in telecom, power and healthcare sector.
Losers included Hero Honda (-1.26%), Hindustan Unilever (-1.08%), Tata Steel (-0.68%) and SBI (-0.67%).
Market breadth was positive on the BSE with 1614 advances and 1488 declines.
Elsewhere, European markets extended rally for seventh session and US futures indicated a positive start. At 5 pm IST, Dow Jones futures was up 0.35 per cent, S&P 500 gained 0.37 per cent and Nasdaq 100 climbed 0.357 per cent higher.

Equities ended a ranged-bound session on a positive note on Tuesday, taking cues from positive European peers. Realty, PSU and FMCG stocks led the upmove while oil&gas and IT stocks edged lower.
Indices opened on a subdued note due to mixed cues from Asian peers. Positive opening of European markets, reports of positive advance tax numbers, and onset of monsoon helped the indices to move above psychological resistance levels.
National Stock Exchange’s Nifty was at 5222.35, up 24.65 points or 0.47 per cent. The index touched a high of 5231.45 and low of 5171.05.
Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex ended at 17412.83, up 74.66 points or 0.43 per cent. The 30-share index hit a low of 17249.46 and high of 17442.50
Domestic cues are positive and broad-based buying was seen. FII participation has also increased. If Nifty manages to sustain 5200 for next few sessions then we are headed for 5240 and then 5350. On the downside, immediate support is seen at 5100

The BSE Midcap Index was up 0.38 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index moved 0.85 per cent higher.
Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Realty Index was up 2.60 per cent and BSE PSU Index gained 1.61 per cent. BSE IT Index declined 0.54 per cent and BSE Oil&gas fell 0.55 per cent.
PSU shares moved higher after the CCEA approved stake sale in Hindustan Copper and Coal India. Shares of ADAG group companies were in the action after reports that RIL-RNRL may sign the gas pact next week.
A consortium of PE firm Blackstone and US-based tower company Crown Castle International, Manoj Tirodkar owned GTL, and the world’s largest independent tower company, American Towers, are in talks with Anil Ambani’s Reliance Communications for acquiring its tower unit through a demerger.
Reliance Power (5.69%), Suzlon Energy (4.75%), Reliance Communications (4.30%), Sterlite Industries (3.52%) and DLF (3.06%) were amongst the top Nifty gainers.
BPCL (-5.78%), ONGC (-2.56%), TCS (-1.91%), M&M (-1.23%) and Maruti (-0.93%) resisted the upmove.
Market breadth was positive on the BSE with 1783 advances and 1326 declines.
Elsewhere, European markets were in the green after a poor start. US stock futures also indicated a positive start. At 5 pm IST, Dow Jones futures was up 0.48 per cent, S&P 500 gained 0.52 per cent and Nasdaq 100 advanced 0.61 per cent.

Equities ended on a positive note Wednesday, after a day of choppy trade. Gains in metals and healthcare space were offset by losses in FMCG and IT stocks.
Indices opened in the green and turned lacklustre due to lack of triggers from global or domestic front. Positive opening of the European markets saw the benchmarks touching crucial resistance levels. However, the upmove was short-lived as traders, wary of sharp volatility globally, booked profits.
According to analysts, the mood in market is on the bearish side and any negative newsflow could lead to sharp correction in coming sessions. Timely onset of monsoon can lend some support to the indices.
Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex closed at 16657.89, up 40.79 points or 0.25 per cent. The index touched a high of 16817.69 and low of 16591.26.
National Stock Exchange’s Nifty ended at 5000.30, up 13.20 points or 0.26 per cent. The index hit a high of 5050.60 and low of 4980.10 in today’s trade.
Markets have become friendly for day-traders due to volatility in global equities. If overseas markets are positive and if Nifty (spot) stays above 5030 then one can go long for 5070-5065.
If the global markets are down and the Nifty is below 4980 then one should go short for target of 4960-4930

The BSE Midcap Index closed higher by 0.48 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index moved up 0.29 per cent.
Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Metal Index moved 1.54 per cent higher and BSE Healthcare Index gained 1.36 per cent. BSE FMCG Index fell 2.41 per cent.
Bharti Airtel (5.57%), Sterlite Industries (3.31%), ONGC (2.22%), Tata Steel (2.20%) and ACC (1.99%) were the top Sensex gainers.
Losers included ITC (-4.19%), Tata Power (-2.32%), Wipro (-2.12%), TCS (-1.96%) and Tata Motors (-1.09%).

Bharti Airtel shares bounced back a day after the company successfully concluded its $10.7 billion deal to acquire the African assets of Kuwait's Zain, making it the world's fifth largest mobile phone services company.
Shares of FMCG major ITC were under pressure due to adjustments after the company went ex-dividend. ITC announced final dividend of Rs 4.50 per share and special centenary dividend of Rs 5.50 per share.
Market breadth was positive on the BSE, with 1,481 advances and 1,285 declines
European markets were choppy while US stocks indicated a positive start. At 4:30 pm, IST, Dow Jones futures was up 0.11 per cent, S&P 500 moved 0.12 per cent higher and Nasdaq 100 inched 0.07 per cent higher.

Indices ended sharply lower on Monday as bearish news from global markets hurt sentiments. All the sectoral indices were in the red with metals, realty and oil&gas worst hit. Market opened with a gap-down on concerns of unemployment data in the US and reports of debt crisis in Hungary.
However, the benchmarks didn’t breach important psychological support levels giving some respite to the bulls. According to analysts, the markets are likely to turn volatile in coming months due to uncertainty in Europe’s economic condition.
Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex ended at 16,781.07, down 336.62 points or 1.97 per cent. The index hit intraday low of 16686.73 and high of 17069.77.
National Stock Exchange’s Nifty closed at 5034, down 101.50 points or 1.98 per cent. The index hit intraday low of 5004.25 and high of 5132.95 in today’s trade.
BSE Midcap Index fell 1.37 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index moved 1.45 per cent lower.
Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Metal Index was down 3.99 per cent, BSE Realty Index declined 3.89 per cent and BSE Oil&gas Index slipped 1.92 per cent.
DLF (-6.19%), Hindalco Industries (-5.07%), Tata Steel (-4.59%), Tata Motors (-4.25%) and Sterlite Industries (-4.24%) were the top Sensex losers.
Reliance Communications (4.61%), ACC (1.06%) and Hero Honda (0.02%) were the only gainers.
The Reliance Communications board gave its approval to divestment of 26% in the company to a strategic or private equity investor and exploring merger and acquisition opportunities, the company said in a statement on Sunday.
Shares of oil&gas companies were reacting ahead of empowered group of ministers (EGoM) meeting to discuss deregulation of petrol, diesel and LPG prices recommended by Kirit Parikh Committee.
Market breadth was negative on the BSE with 1909 declines against 869 advances.
The European markets managed to limit losses after a poor opening and the US stock futures indicated a pull-back session after sell-off in last session. At 4:50 pm IST, Dow Jones futures was up 0.13 per cent, S&P 500 moved 0.25 per cent and Nasdaq 100 moved 0.33 per cent higher.

Equities extended the pull-back rally Thursday and ended with smart gains on the day of May F&O series expiry. Auto, capital goods and FMCG stocks moved higher while IT stocks were a little subdued.
Market opened higher and gained momentum backed by positive cues from global peers. The close above resistance levels has come as a breather for the bulls and positive US futures indicate that some more upside is expected tomorrow.
Nifty is perched at a crucial level of 5000. It now depends which course the index takes. If the index sustains the upmove then a good rally is expected and if it retracts then a sharp fall is likely

National Stock Exchange’s Nifty ended at 5003.10, up 85.70 points or 1.74 per cent. The broader index hit a low of 4897.60 and high of 5016.60 during the session.
Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex closed at 16,666.40, up 278.56 points or 1.70 per cent. The index touched a high of 16,694.55 and low of 16,331.10 intraday.
BSE Midcap Index advanced 0.93 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index moved higher by 0.77 per cent.
Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Bankex gained 2.55 per cent, BSE Auto Index advanced 2.10 per cent and BSE Oil&gas Index moved 2.09 per cent higher.
Reliance Power (6.70%), Tata Motors (5.70%), Sterlite Industries (4.84%), Axis Bank (4.59%), and Unitech (4.22%) were the top Nifty gainers.
Power Grid Corporation (-1.16%), ACC (-1.10%), Idea (-1%), Bharti Airtel (-0.93%) and Hero Honda (-0.86%) were amongst the losers.
Market breadth was positive on the NSE with 1,741 advances and 1,181 declines.
European markets surged higher in line with other peers. US stocks are also headed for a strong gap-up opening, suggest stock futures. At 4:15 pm IST, Dow Jones futures was up 2.13 per cent, S&P 500 futures advanced 2.62 per cent and Nasdaq 100 climbed up 2.60 per cent.

Indian stock market indices ended near the day’s high Wednesday, on short-covering ahead of May F&O series expiry. All the sectoral indices ended in the green led by IT, realty and metals.
The equity benchmarks opened gap-up after a late bounce back on Wall Street, and got further support from positive Asian and European markets.
According to analysts, market was in an oversold territory and is likely to see some more short-covering in a volatile session on Thursday. F&O rollovers have been below average and are expected to pick-up in next session.
National Stock Exchange’s Nifty ended at 4,917.40, up 110.65 points or 2.30 per cent. The 50-share index recorded a high of 4,925.45 from the opening level of 4,807.30.
Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex closed at 16,387.84 gaining 365.36 points or 2.28 per cent. The index touched a high of 16,410.35 from the low of 16,069.78.
Most of the short covering in index heavyweights was on relatively low volumes, indicating that the strength won’t sustain for too long. Moreover, the rollovers were on the short-side. We expect the upside to be capped around 5,000-5,050 and Nifty may take support between 4,800-4,600

BSE Midcap Index was up 1.48 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index moved 1.68 per cent higher.
Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE IT Index gained 3.48 per cent, BSE Realty Index advanced 3.01 per cent and BSE Metal Index moved 2.98 per cent higher.
Hindalco Industries (7.30%), TCS (5.36%), Tata Motors (5.28%), Jaiprakash Associates (5.17%) and ICICI Bank (4.72%) were the top Sensex gainers.
Grasim (-20.52%), Reliance Communications (-2.56%), ACC (-1.34%) BHEL (-0.36%) and Maruti Suzuki (-0.23%) were the top losers.
Market breadth was positive on the BSE with 1,886 advances and 901 declines.
Meanwhile, Europe showed strength led by banks and commodities. US stock futures, too, indicated a positive opening. At 5:10 pm, IST, Dow Jones futures was up 0.77 per cent, S&P 500 futures gained 0.89 per cent lower and Nasdaq 100 moved 0.84 per cent higher.

Indian markets ended near 3-month lows on Tuesday, reacting to fears over a widening debt crisis in Europe and rising hostility between South and North Korea. Stocks from metals, capital goods and banks were amongst the worst beaten sectors.
Equities opened gap-down on reports that North Korea was readying its military against any action by South Korea and the US. The fall was triggered further by negative opening of Europe which led to the benchmarks slipping below crucial support levels.
National Stock Exchange’s Nifty ended at 4806.75, down 137.20 points or 2.78 per cent. The index breached the crucial support of 4800 and touched an intraday low of 4786.45.
Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex closed at 16,022.48, down 447.07 points or 2.71 per cent. The 30-share index fell below 16,000 to touch an intra-day low of 15,960.15.
Breaching 4,800 is not a comfortable sign. Given the negative cues from across the globe, there is a good possibility of 200 points fall on Nifty. In the short term, the market looks over-sold and we may see a bout of profit booking before the May F&O expiry.
The BSE Midcap Index plunged 3 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index fell 3.43 per cent.
Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Metal Index fell 5.10 per cent, BSE Capital Goods Index declined 3.09 per cent and BSE Bankex fell 2.62 per cent.
Most traders are short on the market and they should partially cover their positions, whereas investors must identity value stocks and start buying in small quantities on dips in next 15-30 days,” Jain said.
Reliance Communications (-6.32%), Hindalco (-5.43%), Tata Motors (-4.66%), Sterlite Industries (-4.49%), and Tata Steel (-4.45%) were amongst the top Sensex losers
Cipla (0.05%) was the only gainer.
Market breadth was negative on the BSE with 1210 losers against 115 gainers.
Europe continued to reel and the US markets are also seen opening sharply lower. At 4:30 pm IST, Dow Jones futures was down 2.11 per cent, S&P 500 futures fell 2.44 per cent lower and Nasdaq 100 declined 2.06 per cent.

Asian markets were trading weak. China's Shanghai Composite was down 1.02% or 27.16 points at 2,646.27.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 1.81% or 356.21 points at 19,311.55.

Japan's Nikkei plunged 2.19% or 214.01 points at 9,544.39.

Singapore's Straits Times declined 1.35% or 26.82 points at 2,687.05.

South Korea's Seoul Composite slipped 2.87% or 46.06 points at 1,558.87.

Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted shed 2.10% or 153.56 points at 7,169.17.
