If you cleaned yourself like a cat you would only be able to clean from your elbows to the tips of your fingers. I noticed this when I happened to be sitting outside on a bench while listening to a podcast that seemed to be drowned out by this thought like a buzzing static. I do realise it is not much of a thought to have but it started like that ball of snow you see in a cartoon then grew

On top of editing and working in a bookshop full-time I was still doing drawings for different things. Like the odd pressie for a wedding: Sometimes the odd caricature for a birthday: I did an illustration for An Cosantóir: And when I was at comic festivals I did quick on the spot caricatures or drawings of superheroes, robots, etc. : It can be fun, so much fun.

Ar an 20/05/14 beidh mé ag déanamh ceardlann greannán ieis an Dublin Writers Festival agus IMRAM. Úsáideann siad an íomhá as an clúdach Rírá #1 déanta le Bob Byrne. Tá súil agam go mbeadh spraoi againn. If you are interested Coimicí Gael is doing a workshop in Irish on the 20/05/14 with the Dublin Writers Festival and IMRAM. They used the image of Rírá 1 in the programme, the drawing was by Bob

It probably needs more work.  I left in the sketchy lines and it needs about two more hours work but this is as far as I am going with this digital sketch of Paul O'Connell.  Kinda happy.  I could've left out the sketchy underlayer of lines but I like it.

I was messing with the auld Wacom tablet and photoshop and started sketching, messing about.  I saw a pic of Paul O'Connell and decided to give him a go as a caricature.  So will finish it when I get back from Scotland.  I am looking forward to heading there this weekend.  I was gonna finish it tonight but only just realised the time.  It is bedtime, definitely bedtime.

So yesterday I was working on a wee editorial cartoon and it meant I had to do a drawing of Phil Hogan who is the Minister for the Environment.  I did the drawing outside the editorial cartoon because I realised I had made a little itty bitty mistake and needed to take another out and put Phil Hogan in.  So I drew Mr. Hogan and did some drawing surgery to get him into the cartoon. &nbsp

Right, so I was sitting on my couch there about a week ago and I got a tweet from the talented David Baillie about something called the Writer's Blog Tour.   This is the way one writer put it to explain the Writer's Blog Tour, 'The idea of the Writers’ Blog Tour is for bloggers to answer the same four seemingly simple questions and then pass the challenge on.' which is a direct quote from

Tá na Stan Lee Eagle Awards againn an bhliain seo.  Má tá suim agaibh tá sibhse abálta vótáil a dhéanamh anseo Téigh go dtí Favourite European Comicbook agus clic ar Rírá má taitníonn Rírá libh.  Ba mhaith linn a bheith ar an ghearrlíosta.  Bhuel, bhíomar ar an ghearrlíosta roimhe leis an Eagle Awards nuair a thosaíomar ag obair ar Rírá.  Bheadh sé go hiontach a bheith

So at the start of the week I signed into my Comixology account on my iPhone and it said that I had to download a newer version of the app.  So, with no thought at all to the recent acquisition of Comixology by Amazon, I deleted my Comixology app and downloaded the newer version.  It hit me as I tried to browse through the store of the newer edition of the app I could not browse through

Also I did a quick colour cartoon of BOD and Gatland at the time.  Very quick. It was just showing the shock of O'Driscoll's being left aside.

Aidan Courtneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08023898385619926957noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516710216259880244.post-11852252324375866842013-07-11T22:41:00.000+01:002013-07-11T22:41:32.056+01:00

The past while I've been putting Rírá together with other people and doing workshops.  Also, been looking at the papers scribbling really quick topical (at the time) cartoons.  For example, these are mostly for my own practice: I know his teeth are off and stuff this was very quick. Again very quick.

Aidan Courtneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08023898385619926957noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516710216259880244.post-79565737708475739782013-01-16T23:23:00.002+00:002013-01-16T23:24:38.886+00:00

Hiya just a wee update on the shop situation.  It is still available on our shop and the digital editions are still available here. From February 4th I am afraid Rírá 4 will no longer be available in newsagents to buy or order in so if you want your Rírá off a shelf somewhere try these places: Northern Ireland: Belfast: An Ceathrú Poilí, An Cultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich (Rírá 1, 2 and 3 are

Aidan Courtneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08023898385619926957noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516710216259880244.post-20929578269864251432012-12-02T01:53:00.001+00:002012-12-02T01:53:48.790+00:00

So I've been busy the past while.  Back at work full-time (not completely better but joint pain beats the auld not breathing properly) and getting Rírá out and about.  For those interested Rírá has been made available to newsagents to order.  All people have to do to order copies or buy copies is walk into their local newsagent and ask if they stock Rírá.  If not, just explain

Aidan Courtneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08023898385619926957noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516710216259880244.post-65452572662068492862012-10-14T21:07:00.000+01:002012-10-20T18:32:42.858+01:00

So am back at work in the Ennis Bookshop again full-time and still am putting the comic together.  Finishing touches are being put on the comic this week.  Just to get everyone drooling over a nice cover from Alma Ryan and the design from Muireann Lalor that makes the whole thing pop.  Being back at work has been great but me joints have been aching so this kinda has made me walk

Aidan Courtneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08023898385619926957noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516710216259880244.post-38493174035576746642012-09-12T18:21:00.000+01:002012-09-12T18:21:07.382+01:00

So Alma has been really busy (everyone else has too, am always amazed at the work handed in).  And here is the cover to Rírá #4 inked so far.  I think it's great looking forward to slapping the Rírá banner on it and seeing the finished piece.

Aidan Courtneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08023898385619926957noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516710216259880244.post-4980270515448725372012-09-11T16:06:00.001+01:002012-09-11T16:06:26.738+01:00

Tá Rírá #4 ag teacht.  Seo iad cúpla rudaí a bheidh istigh san iris.  Rírá 4 is coming.  Here are a couple of things (samples) that will be in it. Davy Francis has a great strip handed in. Phil Barrett has Nícol Óg back up to her eyes in gaming. These are just two examples of the types of stuff that will be within the pages.  Should have more soon.

Aidan Courtneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08023898385619926957noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516710216259880244.post-17409485570125572802012-09-03T16:53:00.002+01:002012-09-04T01:25:43.034+01:00

Hi all.  People all over this island are working frantically on their comics, getting them all polished and ready for Rírá 4.  Alma Ryan is different however.  This issue, her sole duty is to provide the cover.  Here is the approved design sketch for the cover.  There were others but this just stood out. This is just sketch stage, so looking forward to seeing the end

Aidan Courtneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08023898385619926957noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516710216259880244.post-10259300728725275102012-08-30T19:23:00.001+01:002012-09-02T02:06:22.476+01:00

Right so, Rírá 4 has been given the green light.  The last few issues were really well received and I am gonna name the people who have gotten on the list.  God, I wish I could get everyone in the pages of the comic but here is a list of Irish talent involved: Bob Byrne, Alan Nolan, Philip Barrett, Maeve Clancy, Mike Lynch, Michael Ball, Alma Ryan, Alan Ryan, Eoin Ryan, Stephen Downey,

So have coloured the first page to see how it looks of the younger kiddies book.  And there you go.  Far from complete but there will be lettering and I'm not 100% convinced about the clouds.  So another 59 pages to go.

Aidan Courtneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08023898385619926957noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516710216259880244.post-44789519882364505132012-08-17T14:30:00.000+01:002012-08-17T14:36:22.833+01:00

So, I've been off for the past 6 months sick and, on days I have had energy, I have drawn stuff as well as do a little creative wise.  I have gained about 2 and a half stone on steroids and the change over to another drug yokeymebob has knocked the energy levels.  There was a time there a few months back I found it hard to walk about the place.  Still do to be honest.  Now I

Yep, so am scanning in the pages for the new Coimicí Gael pages and I notice some little insect has gotten squished on my scanner.  I have to go back through the pages to see if a poor squished fly has pushed his little mug up against the glass in every page.  What flies do to get into comics, eh? It is a bit yucky to be honest.  Ah well.  There you go.  I think

Aidan Courtneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08023898385619926957noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516710216259880244.post-66078719563641237022012-08-14T22:16:00.002+01:002012-08-14T22:16:36.957+01:00

So was scribbling away.  Doodling out of boredom and Benjamin Grimm pops up.  I added a little ink to the doodle and hey presto, it's the Thing.  It's only a bit of a sketch left it at that, had bit of fun sketching though.

Aidan Courtneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08023898385619926957noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516710216259880244.post-6171605985026995132012-08-08T22:16:00.000+01:002012-08-08T22:17:47.638+01:00

Here's a few more pages from that project I am working on alongside the fact that Issue 4 of Rírá is being put together.  The team of people for Rírá 4 have been assembled.  I will get all their thingymebobs and edit and put Rírá 4 out in October.  The stuff that has been seen so far looks great.  These are two more pages from that project that hopefully we will release in

So I was scribbling away and was doing Desperate Dan chin.  Next thing you know Bananaman appears in my doodle.  For those that didn't grow up with Bananaman.  He was, for me, one of the funnier things to come out of DC Thomson.  I always loved the style and flair of the art which was by John Geering, who also drew Smudge, Puss n Boots (used to laugh hysterically at them

At the top right hand corner of the page there is a list of places you can get Rírá online.  Like our own shop.  Litriocht.com's shop and the digital editions where you can get Rírá 3 for a variety of digital formats.  Yay!
