Following an invitation of tender from eligible contractors to carry out the work, contracts for which should have been assigned on the basis of merit and compliance to the requirements, the BMC has grossly deviated from the due process and has bestowed favors on certain groups. Throwing all rules and regulations to wind and overlooking all legal stipulations, they have stamped their sweet will over all the decisions, unconcerned about their legality and confirmation to the procedural codes. Contracts seem to have been awarded to parties, supposed to be in good terms with them in contravention to the existing norm of equity and fairness. All means have been adopted by the authorities to forestall any bid by other competing agencies and keep them out of the process affording unfair advantage to their chosen ones. <span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> </span>This has threatened to jeopardize the hygiene and sanitation management systems of the city as the contractors, instead of being chosen by the measure of competency were picked up at the discretion of certain officials through manipulative tactics. This has necessitated action from vigilant persons and civic bodies, absence of which could compromise public safety and convenience.
