DIY Jewelry Re-purpose & Reconstruct With Distressed Denim Shorts

A quote came to my mind while working on this project and juggling the demands of a single parent. ‘Necessity is the mother of invention’ and for a fashion-ista whose pocket book is bare. Ideas like this excite me.

This project was inspired by the necessity to have something new in your closet. A broken necklace and a pair of distressed cut off shorts. Two unlikely pieces come together and make a go to classic that’s fun for the last dog days of summer.

The actual process of the video is simple. Take a part an old piece of jewelry and attach it to a pair of denim cut offs. The tools you will need, thread, needle, scissors, minor sewing capabilities, pair of shorts and some old or broken jewelry, a little bit of creative time. The jewelry bits can be attached with ease, just a couple loops and your done. Now a word of advice, if your going to take the time to bling out your shorts, I would only wash them when necessary and by hand.

Hat – Forever 21

Wide brim felt western style hat. I must admit the felt was a bit floppier then what I expected after ordering it online. However, a few days after hanging on my hat wall seemed to force the shape I coveted.

Kimono Blouse / Robe – Forever 21

Black with pastel flowers a totally 90’s theme placed on a flowy classic. If you’ve watched me for any length of time you know I love the flow. Certain fabrics, billowing cuts always make me swoon, and this particular top is not short on the dramatics.

Shorts – Rue 21

My local Rue has been getting visits from this fox by the boatload. Try not to dismiss this store entirely, most would consider it throw away fashion. But, some of us are content with just that, cheap and cheerful. These distressed shorts were on clearance for $5 a totally Fox Find.

Purse – Ross

An oldie but goldy, I have had this bag off and on in rotation for about a year.

Jewelry – A little here and there.

The necklace is a key reference to Pirates of the Caribbean, those who know whom it belongs to forever receive my adoration. The scull stacked rings are from H&M, while the pine cone ring is from Burlington Coat Factory. The spikes and chained bracelet is from Forever 21.

Shoes – Ross

The black suede shoe I keep grabbing when it comes to blogging / vlogging. I love the 90’s throw back of high socks but I’m not sure I can pull off thigh high ones without getting off putting stares.

a version of the high / low trend that seems to be everywhere. Can I just say that I have worn this top non-stop since I got her? Sometimes Old Navy surprises me with pieces that are not only work horses in my wardrobe, but they also end up being a treasured piece.

HeadBand - Forever 21.

I have worn this so many times I can honestly say it was well worth the $5 bucks or so I spent on it, and I will be truly devastated when it rips.

Jewelry - H&M and Rue 21

The anchor ring and the chunky gold necklace are from Rue 21, recent purchases I might add. You may see a plethora of Rue 21 purchases from me since we have one in town and I always hit their clearance wall.

The Gold Arrow necklace is from H&M, I have worn this a couple times here on You Tube, usually with the little smaller version it came with. Very chic piece.

The clutch is another H&M piece and I love how versatile it is, causal and dressy outfits seem to be effortless with this classy neutral.

The wedges are from DSW - Guess, and I purchased them last year and they are still a summer fav for me.

Summer Style - OOTD Black High Low Dress & Violet Lips

So I am attempting a comeback, everyone loves a comeback am I right? My life has been hectic to say the least with Lily and School. But there has been an added pressure applied to the mix, I'm doing my best to be that mom that has it all working smoothly.

My creativity is trickling back into my soul. I did not realize how my life was getting me down, so much so that I lost interest in some of the things I really love doing. Namely You Tube and Blogging. But this fox is stronger then she thought...

And so I bring you an OOTD, or an outfit of the day. I filmed this on a humid Saturday before school, I hope you cannot see me sweating! Ha!

The Hat: She's from Target at $14.99, its the perfect summer cover for someone with fair skin. The wide brim is actually stiff so you can tilt and tip it to a style that makes your heart content.

The Lips: Revlon Violet Frenzy, is actually quite a dark purple. Very dramatic with platinm hair but I gotta say I love it. I never thought I could pull off purple lips! Although I think in person its much darker then on camera.

The Accessories: I must admit I went for a deco / Gatsby kinda feel to this style. But I kept it simple and fuss free, per a normal summer past time. The Necklaces are a mix from H&M and Forever 21. The gold and black cuff along with that beveled square watch are from Forever 21 as well. What can I say? I am an accessories girl!

The Dress: This is a first, I borrowed it from a dear friend. Its so perfect I want to buy it off of her but I doubt she will part with it! High / Low with the shear bottom that glides so beautifully through the air. This is the quintessential lil' black dress! It can easily be dressed up or down with just a couple of quick changes. She divulged that she found it at Ross for a whopping $8!

Shoes: For the life of me I cannot remember if I got the at Ross or Marshalls, but this was a purchase from last year and they are still a favorite of mine. Wedges tend to be easier to walk in and these are just classy.

A Collective Haul

So my vixens this fox is having a hard time managing her time!

I want to get back into the groove of making vids and blog posts. Its just finding the time to pull it off! Lily has been giving me a run for the money and so has school. I am still playing catch up with all my tests and hours.

I decided to post a easier video to pull off and that a haul video, kind of a collective haul if you will. Just a way for me to share some of the goodies I have purchased as of late. These types of videos are far easier to post then a DIY project vid, so I am taking baby steps. Oh and it was hella long, I had to edit about five to ten mins out in the beginning because I ramble far too much. So all my thrift shop finds where not shown. But, they will probably make an appearance sometime or another, so no worries.

DIY How To Make A Cat Toy

This is a fun and easy project to embark upon on a lazy weekend with a handful of close friends, or solo. Using things you may already have close at hand will get you through this project and your furry feline palm will be ever thankful.

TOOLS

Scraps of Material: I have a bag that is full to the brim of scraps, leftover from previous projects. This is the PURR-fect way to use them up. If you find yourself lacking in his department consider chopping up a couple of old tee-shirts or hit the thrift shops and scour the $1 racks for interesting prints.

Scissors, Fabric Chalk Thread & Needle: A good set of fabric cutting scissors will get you through this project and many others. Invest in a simple pair at your local thrift shop and vow to only use them for –cutting fabric. Fabric chalk can be used to draw out the shapes but I find it is not necessary, freestyle works just fine. If you do not trust your freestyle cutting skills, a white colored pencil or even a piece of bar soap will work in a pinch. Thread in a few shades, a good needle and some time is all you need. I used a whip-stich to sew the body and I definitely recommend that you make your stiches nice and secure. Especially on the eyes and ears, we do not want kitty to be able to take it apart during some overzealous play.

Batting: The actual stuffing of the project. You can find this in a fabric store and generally a big bag of it. More than what you may need for this project. To save cash consider using cut up pieces of your scrap fabric to stuff the toy with or even some cotton balls.

Optional: Bells and catnip are fun things to add on if you’re feeling feisty.

TIPS

I started with a four by four inch square for my mice, but you could go bigger or smaller.

Once you get a mouse or two under your belt, would it not be fun to switch up the design and come up with your own toy? A little bird or bat could be fun!

Consider textures and what your cat loves when you start making your mice. Some cats love rough textures, some love a good feather or even metal [ I used a leftover piece of zipper for a tail. ] Some love a good squeak; you can find squeakers at pet shops and put them inside your mouse for a bit of noise. A cat or two may enjoy that crunchy noise, so you can add some crumpled paper inside to get that effect.

Above all have fun making a little something for you beloved feline pal; they will love you back twice as much.

Got an old jewelry box laying around? Let do something with it!

TOOLS

An Old Jewelry Box, for this project I used one I found at the thrift shop.

Wood Satin: Find a color you like at Lowe's, Home Depot.

Sand Paper: Fine grain find at Lowe's, Home Depot.

Sponge Tip Paint Brush: One for the stain, one for the decoupage.

News Paper: Use lots to keep your work area tidy.

Decoupage Medium: Find at Joannes, Michaels or craft and hobby stores.

A Pencil & Popsicle Stick: A pencil can help you mark the place where you want to place your picture. A Popsicle stick can help flatten then picture the first round, to avoid air bubble underneath.

Picture of Your Choice: I printed my picture out, if you do this I suggest multiple layers of thin coats a top the photo. This will keep the ink from running. Test run a photo before you do the project to see if you can pull it off. I did about 6-7 thin layers on my letting them dry for a while in between. You can also use fabric, magazine clippings, etc.

TIPS

Do this project when you have plenty of spare time.

Do this outside -no exceptions-

News Paper is your friend.

Don't want to use stain, try painting it or use spray paint.

Tape: Use if you want to protect the hardware of the jewelry box. Put tape where you do not want paint.

DIY Fashion Accessories - The Button Projects

The Tools

Buttons: Find these guys super cheap at yard sales, swap meets and thrift shops. You can also head to your local fabric or craft store to find some interesting buttons.

The Glue: E-6000 is a wonderful glue for projects. You will need to work fast with it and cap it once you are done. Glue sets up in about an hour or two, so you have a little bit of wiggle room to make any adjustments. The fumes are strong, use in well ventilated room or better yet outside. Glue will set permanently in about 24-48 hours - so give your project proper time to dry.

The Hardware: All found at your local craft or fabric store. Earring backs whether clip on or post, are dirt cheap. Usually a bag of 20-30 for about $2. The tack pins where sold in a bag as well for about the same price. The stretchy ring with flat face was the only hardware that cost me about $4.

TIPS

Newspaper is your friend, lay it out on your working surface to avoid a mess.

When you cut the loop off, close your eyes or better yet wear eye protection! I had pieces of buttons flying everywhere.

Metal Button? You can still use them, matter of fact one of my "pins" is a metal button. You will just need to work it a bit more with the pliers to pop the loop on the back of the button off.

Try one project at a time, until you are comfortable with the process.

Allow proper time to dry, it would be awful to have your button fall off.

Make them for friends & family!

Geoffrey Rush's Donovan Donaly

Can I just say the house that belongs to Rush's character is GORGEOUS! Everything the tiles, furniture... .. .

Even though Mr. Rush is only in this film for a very few short segments, he is flippin hilarious! His facial expression are off the charts funny. I actually watched Jim Carry's The Mask the other day, then I got these pictures ready. I realized that Mr. Rush could have easily pulled off that movie.

In this scene he curses up a storm, and I got to say I LOVE hearing him say bad words, its hilarious. I replayed that scene over and over, literally laughing out loud.

For The Love Of A Pirate ~ I Wear My Heart On My Sleeve

{Hat Wal-Mart, Sweater Old Navy, Jeans Target, Shoes Fergalicious by Fergie, Clutch Rue 21}

This is definitely a project I wish I would have gotten up a lot earlier. I know its still cold out there in certain parts of the world so here you go!

First off this a quick way to personalize your wardrobe. Breath new life into an old sweater with ease.

WHAT DO YOU NEED FOR THIS PROJECT

Inspiration: What or whom do you love right now? {A Pirate}

Do you have a favorite saying?

It can be anything like "WTF" or a funny quote, anything you want.

Be creative & have FUN... .. .

A Sweater: Mines a cropped waffle knit, I found at Old Navy this year. Search thrift shops and other stores for the perfect sweater. The only thing I'd say avoid a heavy cable knit with like braids or cording wherever you are going to personalize. Could get in the way.

Yarn: Your choice of color, contrast is best. Find at the fabric or craft store for a couple of bucks.

Scissors & Tape measure: Tape measure is very important, you need to count how many letters are in your particular statement. "Barbossa" has 8 letters. I measured out "8" 2 1/2 inch spaces and marked where every letter should begin and end. Use some tailors chalk or a pencil to make your marks. You can free style BUT make sure you will have enough room to be creative!

Needle with a large enough eye or hole that yarn can pass through. Mines a tapestry needle which I found next to the knitting needles and yarn.

Time: About an hour to do mine.

TIPS

Do not pull on the yarn to hard, it will cause the sweater to bind up.

For straight lines you can make your stitch bigger, but for curves keep it smaller. Its easier to get a nice curve. If you make a mistake, and your needle is easily pulled back out-do so. I did a couple of times when I did not like the angle.

If you are going to take the time to do this to a sweater also take the time to hand wash it!

Be careful when you put your sweater on, if your finger or hand catches the yarn on the inside it can pull.

If the yarn gets Gap-y or squirrely, thread a normal needle and add a couple stitches to keep it where you want it.

DIY Fashion - How To ReMove Shoulder Pads

Tools you will need, a tread ripper or can be called a seam ripper. find this little guy at yr local fabric shop. This tool is a must for any DIY person worth their salt. Not only can it help take things apart but it can take buttons off or even help fray some jeans.

I bought this blazer and showed it on a prior haul video, if you want to see that it looked like prior to the revamp-check this out,

I did take some still pics, but alas the new computer has no picture editing software yet. I may post them later. I only have video editing software and did ye notice the clarity on the new video? My 1080 HD is BACK! Takes forever to render and upload but for some videos it is worth it!

Kardashian Kollection - Navy & White Pant Suit

So here it is the most comfortable pantsuit in the word!

Made by the Kardashian Kollection for Sears.

PROS

The material is serious luxury. Cool to the touch, moves like chiffon.

The color dark royal blue, perfect for the summer trend of Navy & White.

Comes with a white belt of which I opted not to add this time around.

CONS

Its too long! the legs are literally three to four inches to long. My legs are decent length here, I'm six foot plus with theses heels on and they pant legs are dragging on the ground.

Easily fixed with a small alteration.

The cost, why do they have to make their line so expensive? This was def a splurge for me I have not spent THAT much $$$ on an outfit in a very long time. I have to really love something to plunk down the cash - if its a bit pricey.

DIY Fashion Thrift Shop Dress Revamp / Recycle Clothing Project

So I am starting to feel like normal now. I caught a cold and felt like the walking dead for the last two weeks. I had recorded the first half of this video right before I got sick and it took me this long to finally get pictures taken for it, sadness. I wanted the hubby to help me with this one because I had a location in mind that would have complimented it beautifully. But he bailed out on me, I should have known better to have even asked for help, sadness again.

Finally able to post this I initially showed this dress on a haul video a few uploads {You Tube} ago. I had plans for it to become a skirt. It was just too much as a dress, very Victorian and stuffy. More then anything the color was too close to my hair color and I felt like a blond blob. SO I took scissors to it and documented the revamp in the following video for you.

TIPS

Measure before you cut. Simply laying the fabric down and cutting both sides at the same time = a BIG No NO. The material will slide as you cut and it will not come out even. Speaking from experience here

One more thing to consider. My dress had an elastic waist band already, so I kept it. I still have to pull it on over my head just as I would have if I kept it in dress form. You may need to add elastic to create a waist or a zipper. Think about it before you cut it.

As for the video details. The coat is vintage I have had it for 10+ years. I found it in a Sacramento Thrift shop for $10. Every time I wear it I get compliments or looks. One time some lady tried to buy it off of my back! No Joke. Added a brown tank, lifted the skirt to make it high waisted. Shoes, are from Charlotte Russe and they are actually a couple years old! Not bad. Purse is a thrift-ed find. Watches where my grandmothers.

The camera was my grandfathers. He was a photographer for the army. This was one of his cameras I found in a survival backpack that was in a shed. At the time I was in high school and to find a survival backpack, I had no concept what it really was. What he lived through. I kept the camera and the alarm clock you see in one of my other videos. I also have masses of black & white photos from him, of everything. My Grandmother, Father as a baby. places in France and Germany, everything you can imagine. It really blows my mind to sit here and think about the fact that I have become so enamored with photography as of late. What I could have learned from him if he where still around, amazing. The camera smells like leather when I lift it to my face and reminded me of him every shot I took.

Yes look at the duality of it, taking a picture of myself taking a picture... .. .

My quest for all things Geoffrey Rush moves forward with Lantana.

A wise Rusie commented one time that these blog post's are a Rushie's P.O.V {point of view} and I agree. Its quickly becoming a study of the man's performances and his face, pushing the RushOlogy Study forward.

By no means am I the ultimate Rushie because I have met more dedicated ones.

Also by no means are these blog posts meant to be hard driven reviews of his work. They are just my musing's and they make me happy to ramble on about.

When I first watched Lantana I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out who did what and what happened.

Mr. Rush does not have a lot of action in this movie, but I still managed to get quite of few pictures from him.

With A LOT of his work under my belt I have noticed a couple of things about him.

In "almost" all of his movies the man is either dying or having sex.

His list of conquests in the bed out weigh a lot of hot male actors now a days!

Believe it or not.

He really does have a cute butt, sorry Mr. Rush - I'm Just Saying!

The reason for this post is to point out the freckles on his back. Not her face so much.

So I leave you with that and I will move on to the next film.

Another Thrift Store Haul & Styling Video

Goodwill has dollar days which are days where certain tags colors are a buck. This means its packed and you got to dive in. Plan on spending a couple hours too! I spent $50 on all of the things I got, some items where regular price and some where $1. You know how it goes all the cute stuff is regular price - not that that's too bad in a Goodwill. So I leave you with the video for now.

As of late my computer has been frustratingly temperamental. Its been getting slower and freezing a lot! Its 5 or so years old and its time to get a new one but that won't be anytime soon. I could be looking at simpler projects that are quick to get uploaded with minimal editing OR not being able to get anything up. So if you see a break in my activity - now you know why.

DIY Fashion Accessory - RePurpuse / ReVamp Knit Gloves

You Will Need The Following

1/2 Yard of fabric

Pair of knit gloves

Needle and thread, scissors

Tailors chalk

Sewing machine OR lots of time to hand sew

Start with folding your fabric in half so that you will have two squares when you cut.

Measure out a 12/12 square of fabric. Cut on the bias [turn fabric to the side about a 45 degree angle] This creates stretch in the fabric, which you will need when sewing it to a stretchy knit glove.

Take one square fold it over in half wrong side facing out. Pin it down and sew it. You will end up with a long rectangle tube.

Begin to fold the tube back onto itself, now you have a little tube and the pattern is facing the right side - the side you see.

Grab the tube and open it up raw edges at the top. Take your glove, slip it in and pin the seam of your fabric to the bottom of the glove. This insures that the seam will remain somewhat hidden and give you a nice finish. Also make sure to keep track of your left hand and right hand, thumbs up. Add one more pin to hold it into place.

Take the fabric and glove to a machine. Use the arm to stretch the glove over it and begin sewing slowly and carefully. If you hand sew, make sure your stretching the glove as you go.

Once you have sewed all the way around slip on and flip the cuff up.

Project complete.

Now that I have shown you the basics its up to you to personalize this project. Consider using a different color for your glove and a contrasting fabric. Also there are a million colors and fabrics out there - you can find one that suits your mood & your friends =]

Another Thrift Shop Haul

Yet again another thrift shop haul. I was surprised to find so many things, other stores where ransacked due to the holidays.

I did fail to show one key piece and that is the cape I found and tweeted about. But I have full intentions of doing an OOTD or Outfit of the Day video for that one.

I think I spent about $60 at all three shops. So it goes to show, if you look you never know what you might find.

THE BANGER SISTERS

I am reviewing the Geoffrey Rush movies as I bought them. Had I thought ahead I should have reviewed in the order that he performed? I only intended to buy some of his work, now I have this craving to have them ALL.

The Banger Sisters, I really like this movie its heart warming and sweet. I love Goldie Hawn & Susan Sarandon in this movie they are both excellent. Can I just say that Goldie Hawn is so hot in this movie!

We meet the beloved Geoffrey Rush as Harry Plumber as he exits a bus headed to Phoenix {if only he where really in AZ} complaining about flies doing it on the back of his hand. He comes off as eccentric and uptight.

Harry Plumber;

“Disgusting! And there’s no excuse for it! Landed on the back of my hand and copulated. Two flies! On the back of my hand!”

“First one fly lands, then the second fly goes ZZzzzzzzzz. I started freaking, I mean they had sex on my skin”

Mr. Rush must have smashed his finger somewhere…

One bullet meant for one man. Anyone else see the similarity to another character Mr. Rush plays?

His face after Goldie makes the statement of “I don’t wear underwear” is hilarious. That neck pillow cracks me up. It is the perfect prop for his character.

I love the noise or squeak that Mr. Rush makes when Goldie grabs him by his the robe. He has no idea how his little exhales or gasps for breaths have on the audience.

Backing up into the wardrobe like a cornered cat is one of my favorite things he does.

Mr. Rush;

“Where will you sleep?

Goldie;

“In your environment!”

One of very favorite lines is when Goldie is taking care of Susan’s daughter and she is sick. Goldie says, “Harry, you may never shit again!”

After that you get to see Mr. Rush start to soften up a bit, and fall for Goldie’s character.

Did anyone notice the huge bead of sweat that rolls in Goldie’s eye when she’s in the bath tub? She is so in the zone, she barely blinks.

Can I have the job where you get to throw bubbles at Mr. Rush’s face?! That must have been FUN.

No Peeking!

I absolutely love the scene where Mr. Rush is fussing with the ironing board and he drops it. Absolutely hilarious!

The bubbles still in his hair when he answers the door. Loving his miss buttoned shirt, nice touch.

The one love scene in the movie is between Mr. Rush and Goldie. Its brief and ends too soon if you ask me.

I concentrate on the look in Mr. Rush’s eyes. But his neck area distracts me. Watch closely, am I seeing his Pulse? His heart beat on that major vein…

Can I just say the snakeskin pants where not a good choice for Susan’s character.

I imagine this and the following scene may have been difficult for him… .. .

Outfit Of The Day - Cape Coat & Mens Dress Shirt

Cape Coat, Found this gem at Forever 21 for about $32 ladies! Better get it while its hot! Its by Yoki one of those designers collaboration that Forever 21 is doing a lot of here lately. I did not have a navy blue jacket & this one has a touch a drama to it, which I like.

Shirt, blue button down borrowed form the boys. I think their is nothing sexier then wearing your mans shirt.

Leggings are from Forever 21 last year. just basic black you can find anywhere. I find I wear a lot of leggings in the winter!

Boots are from Target and I have had these for about 2-3 years now. They are running strong still. I really like the low wedge heel. They kind of has that vintage or old school feel to them.

Watch is from Target last year.

Rings, snake one is from America Eagle Outfitters. Silver stud one if from forever 21 recently.

Necklace is from Target, last year.

Black stud belt & black bag are both Thrifted.

Location details, filmed at the park yet again. this time it was much warmer then the last time I filmed. I figured that Sunday morning there would be minimal people. I was right, but then this happened. There is a bike path behind me, an older gentleman rode his bike off of the path and asked if I would like him to take pictures for me. I said no thanks, only because I could visualize him grabbing my $600 camera and taking off! You know people will do that! Can you see me chasing after an old man on a bike because I WOULD!

Generally I avoid people with cameras and camcorders and for that matter I am not the type of person to walk over to someone and bug them.

Also I will take the time to vent here a bit.

I would like to throw the Bullshit Flag down on all of the girls who are uploading videos with ext-ream professional help. Their videos are borderline commercials, I know you know who I am talking about here. You can tell the difference when someone has professional help filming. Also do you really think that THAT girl edited her own videos?

Just FYI I film, edit and upload my own videos. Its just me, my camera, laptop & soft wear posting way.

Outfit of the Day - Modern Pirate

Blouse: Bought at Kohls here recently, I usually don't have much luck with that store but when I saw this top I was like I have to have that. Its a modern pirate shirt. We all know I love my pirates. It was on sale for $21.

Pants /Capri's: Found at a local store called Family Dollar. Its kind of a general dollar store. These where on clearance for $5 and I have them for about five years. I lovingly refer to the as my Alex Row pants, Google Alex to see what hes wearing and you will know what i am talking about!

Shoes: Found at Forever 21 here recently for a whopping $12! They where too cool to pass up!

Jewelry: Fossil watch and a smattering of bracelets found at local boutiques and swap meets.

Clutch: H&M a couple months ago. Picked it up because it seemed like a good neutral to add to just about any outfit.

Outfit Of The Day - Fur & Wool Coat Emerald Green Dress

Jacket: Forever 21 for about $40 if I remember correctly. I bought this about a month ago on a self-soothing shopping spree. November was not exactly a kind month to Mrs. Fox. It had been sitting in my closet begging to be worn and today was the day.

Dress: Old Navy for about $15 bought last year. Using old stuff in new ways is a good way to make older items in your wardrobe feel fresh.

Tights & Shoes: Tights are they extreme opaque ones that you can barely see through, bought at Wal-Mart. Shoes are from Nine West purchased at Ross.

Stud Belt: Wal-Mart last year.

Gloves: Your basic knit gloves – who knows where I got them!

Location Details: Obviously near a Lettuce field that is about to be harvested. Initially I had another spot picked out but a street sweeper wetting down the field roads ran me off.

I thought that this dirt road would have little to no traffic on it. Boy was I wrong, about five trucks came down it while I was shooting = awkward. I was waiting for a farmer to run me off but it never happened.

LES MISERABLES

Sometimes this Blog will go off in another direction – in the direction of what ever I am interested in…

I will begin with the simple fact that I was trying to keep my Pirates Of The Caribbean under control. I know everyone LOVES Jack Sparrow, but for me someone else caught my eye. Focusing on Captain Barbossa, my curiosity got the better of me. Curiosity killed the Fox? I began wondering who is this man who brings my beloved Barbossa to life? You Tube searches for Geoffrey Rush lead me to video tributes, full of pictures from movies and theater, of the man. One video had a picture of Rush from Les Miserables in the black hat, I commented on the video. Please tell me what movie that’s from! No response. I googled Rush instead, found that wonderful web site “the many hats of Geoffrey Rush”

Les Miserables was the movie I had to see. Little did I know that Rush was one of the few actors that had a Triple Crown of Acting, under his belt {An Academy Award, Tony Award, Emmy Award & numerous others I could fill this entire Blog with!}

Cash in hand I head to my local video store with a list of Rush movies. Scrambling down the unorganized isles of this store to only find a couple of options, Elizabeth and Les Miserables. I felt like I would have a hard time trying to find Les Miserables if I did not grab it now. So that would be my first purchase of curiosity.

I had never seen the play in the theater nor did I read the book. I went in full naïve only to recognize the movie after the first thirty minuets. I had a friend in high school that loved Les Miserables, I remember her having a pin on her back pack of the Les Miserables Girls face. I also realized she let me barrow this movie back in the day; she had been crushing on Marius of course.

The first time I watched the movie the one thing that stuck out in my mind was “Whoa did he just slap Uma Thurman!” I could not believe it. Rush’s Inspector Javert comes across as a complex man. I would describe him like this; stern, stoic and haughty & the law is his religion – his driving force.

I do like Liam Neeson, a lot. It was nice to see him in this movie too. But Rush stole my attention. I am amazed at how well he always mesh’s with his co-stars, he’s always the Yin to their Yang. You cannot have the one with out the other, truly the best example of a supporting actor.

I do question the directors camera angles at times, Rush is 6’0 and Neeson is 6’4 but seems to tower over him at some points.

Did anyone notice that Rush hardly blinks, he is so intense in this movie.

Favorite line from the movie; I love the part where Captain Beauvais is telling the mayor, Liam Neeson. That the new police inspector is here to report, Neeson says tell him him does not need to. Captain Beauvais says “But Monsieur le Maire, if you don’t permit the inspector to report, I think he will burst into tears!” The idea of Javert doing this is hilarious – because he is so serious.

My other favorite part is not exactly a pleasant part of the movie. Javert finds out that Neeson is who he thought he was and goes into primal rage mode. Confronts Neeson and Thurman with the ferocity of a wolverine. He blows up in Neesons face and says “Speak up, people don’t mumble when they speak to me!” & “ Are you joking, do you think that I am that stupid, I think you do” Rush delivers these lines & part so ferociously I do not think I could have responded to him if I where in Liam Neeson’s shoes. He literally acts him out of the universe in that moment....

Noticing some similarities of Javert to Barbossa? A couple of times in the movie Javert yells or barks an order and all I can see and hear is Barbossa. Rush will stand there and cross his arms high on his chest, very Barbaossa-esque. The hat he wears in the beginning of the movie, very similar to that Barbossa is sporting as a privateer in POTC4. Baldric sword / gun belt seems to be an accessory both like. Long coat, why can’t men wear these anymore? I love a man who can pull off a trench or pea coat. They are not practical in my neck of the woods, sadly.

Did anyone notice that Rush seems to just kind of fall off of that horse? The man has some long legs you would think he’d have no problem.

These pictures are screen shots I took while watching the movie. I was trying to get good shots of him that where not the usual ones you see on the all of the other generic reviews. During this I stumbled across this: Liam Neeson smashes Inspetor Javerts face into the wall he slowly slides down and falls into a heap. At that point, try rewinding in slow motion to see Rush smash his face & slide up the wall. It’s pretty funny! Sorry Rush.

After I watched the movie, the 1^st time. I found out that many people gave it bad reviews. Saying it was nothing like the book or the play. That Liam Neeson’s character was way off from what he should have been, etc. I have nothing to compare it to, nor did I go the extra step to read the book or see the play. All I can say is I think it stands on its own. All of the actors did a wonderful job if you ask me.

Oh, I did see Twitter blowing up Les Miserables. They are doing a remake of this movie. Apparently Rush will be Mr. Thenardiers the owner of the bar and care taker of Cosette. I am excited that that he agreed to play a part in this, but it is not my favorite character. This re-make has a stellar cast and should do well.

***Correction: Geoffrey will not be playing Thenardiers, I am disappointed because any Rush is better then no Rush at all. They cast someone else - I am not even going to comment about THAT.

Hmmm to see Rush in a play – that would be NICE. I have heard he is completely different from what we see in the movies.

Dia De Los Muertos

DIA DE LOS MUERTOS

Is a holiday that is celebrated though out the world by many different cultures. It is a time for families and friends to gather and remember their lost loved ones.

How do we do it?

BIG, we begin by preparing food earning the morning of November 2^nd. The kitchen is suddenly full of foods being prepared and dropped off. Posole, Menudo, Chili and Frila [Potatoes / Bacon Soup] fill our list of comfort foods. All of the food is usually done by mid afternoon.

Then we all head out the cemetery to put out luminarios. We do it old school with a paper bag filled with a bit of sand on the bottom, and then we add a single white candle. We place about 100+ luminaries on grave sites of loved ones and friends throughout the cemetery. Once the sun starts to set we light the candles.

This time of year it’s finally starting to get a bit chilly. We all head to the house that has the comfort food. Fill up on all of the soups and treats and spend time with our loved ones.

It’s the first of the holiday gatherings for us. The big ones sneak right up shortly after.

DIY Accessories How To Make Fast & Easy Tassel Earrings

Tools you will need:

Earring Hooks, go with stainless silver or gold. You can find a packet of these at craft / fabric stores, they generally come in a package of 25+ for a couple of bucks.

Loops or Jump Rings, match the earring hook. You will find these in a package too & they are super cheap

Tassels, find these in the fabric upholstery sections of fabric stores. They have just about every color of the rainbow at Joann's, also try Micheal's.Usually find these near the trim and fringes. Tassels run hing and low on price points, so pick your budget when you head into the store. Try looking in the holiday decoration sections - this time of year you may be able to find some tassels for cheap.

BE CREATIVE!

Once you add that jump ring you could add the tassel to anything. Add it to an old necklace to spruce it up, or your purse, hair clip or even a pair of shoes.

Consider changing the tone of the metal to gold and pick a complimentary colored tassel. I think Gold & Turquoise would look smashing together!
