After spending a long, long time with no interest in making jewelry I am slowly finding the desire returning to me. Along with it is this need to clear the clutter, so to speak, so that I can really focus in on making things I love.

Sterling Swirl Pendant and Pearl Necklace on Leather

Over the past several years I have sold my jewelry at numerous venues- art and craft shows, on consignment at a spa, online and to dozens of friends and neighbors. What sold at each venue was different and what was left over from one may have gone to another. So I was often making jewelry with an end customer in mind and, occasionally making jewelry that I really loved and had trouble parting with (and sometimes kept for myself).

My new focus is going to be on making jewelry that I love and finding the right place to sell it. In order to do this I feel I need to clear away the clutter of lots of perfectly good supplies that I'm pretty sure I will not be using. I've collected these supplies for several years and am selling them close to the cost at which I purchase them- which is way less than they sell for now. Crazy- I know! But I'm actually pretty excited about honing it all down.

Here's a sampling of some sterling pieces that made their way into the UnStrungSisters shop today. I hope to continue to find the time to sort through my HUGE supply stash and offer up other goodies like gemstone, glass and ceramic beads and whatever else I can uncover and no longer need.

Working in the Digital Art World

Sometimes I wish I could stay focused on one type of art. It has been weeks since I have had a paint brush in my hand (and months since I have used my jewelry making tools). I love trying new techniques, though. And lately, my creative outlet has been in Photoshop. Using some of my original photographs I have altered them digitally to create art.

A Fun Tutorial

I ran across a fun tutorial by Holly Christine Moody in the Spring 2011 issue of Somerset Apprentice.

It involves creating pictures by revealing a background of collaged papers hidden under paint. The article has great step by step directions. This a fun project.

I decided to make a house and found I had a hard time keeping a heart out of it. My sun is a bit funky and wonky- both of which work for me:).

This Week in Wildlife Sightings

We have an amazing abundance of wildlife around us here in Florida.

And, we LOVE it.

Here is what we've encountered in the last couple of weeks.

This is a Florida soft shell turtle. Isn't that face amazing! This one was crossing the street by my house. Likely on it's way to another pond to lay eggs. The next day I saw another one following the same path. Their shells are like soft leather. Normally, I would leave it alone but this one couldn't make it over the curb so I moved her to the grass.

The photo below is of a water snake that we couldn't quite identify.

It is living in the pond behind our house.

Cool but freaky.

After Tropical Storm Beryl made its way through we headed to the beach to see what had washed ashore.

There weren't as many shells as we had hoped to see but this osprey was fishing for dinner and eating his catch.

He wasn't going to let it go.

And then there's this guy, Squawky.

My vet asked if I could foster him. He was brought to her office by a landscaper.

Whether the baby bird should have been left where it was I couldn't say. That's what you should do. The mother will still take care of the baby on the ground.

My vet thought he was a baby blue bird.
However, as his feathers come in we have determined he is a baby mockingbird.

He likes to squawk. A lot. Loudly.

Also sighted this week: a bald eagle (sighted daily, in its nest right by our neighborhood- very cool), more ospreys, a red-shouldered hawk, gopher tortoises, a snapping turtle, lizards (everywhere), a trio of armadillos, numerous herons, cormorants and egrets.

Did I mention how much we LOVE seeing all of these wonderful creatures.
