Photoshop Tutorial : How to change the color of a ribbon

Hello everyone! Happy Spring!
Today I am going to explain how to change the color of a ribbon or similar items in Photoshop.
I have released my Happy Jade collection of Ribbons, Tags and Arrows. All of which are in shades of Jade or more popularly - Mint Green! This is great for the ever popular color of spring, but what if you want to other colors?
Well, here is my Photoshop Tutorial on how to change the color of ribbons and other items.

In your layers palette you will see your images that you have imported.
•Double-click on the layer that you want to change
The Layers options window will appear.
• Click on Color Overlay towards the bottom of the left hand side.
• Click on the color "normal" drop down menu and change to Overlay
Selecting Overlay allows the different shades of color to show through.
• Click on the red color box to select the color you want.
• Click OK

The pictures do not match up perfectly, but you should be able to get the gists of the tutorial :)

For now here is one very grungy overlay for free.

I used this grungy overlay on my motorcycle collection.

Scrapbook Overlay Tutorial for color change.

If you look closely you will notice that there is some red in this overlay. Since the file is a PNG you will not be able to change certain brushes, just the entire overlay itself.
If you have Photoshop this is a very easy process.

With the overlay opened in Photoshop you will see it on it's own layer.
Double click on the image icon in the layer. The Layer Style pop up box will open.
Click on Color Overlay in the bottom left hand corner.
The overlay should change to red, which is the standard color to be changed to. (yours may be different)
Click on the color box and select the color you would like in that panel.
Click Ok when you are done
And there you go!
You can also play with the Blend Mode to change the transparency and other fun things.

Tracking your Run

Tracking your Run can be fun and beneficial.

I am sure that there are many different apps out there to use while you are running. My brother introduced to me to STRAVA and I Love it! It uses the GPS on my phone to track my run and it literally tracks every little turn.

It also shows you the distance and the amount of time it took you to complete a mile.

One other great feature is that you can follow people on STRAVA and see what they are doing and where. This great for motivation and to find new runs/trails to explore.

As you can see I am just a beginner!

Right now I am getting ready for a thanksgiving Turkey Trot 5K. Way to get me moving forward and staying at my easy 2 miles. :)

How to Clean Your Makeup Brushes

Do your makeup brushes need to be cleaned?

Well, I haven't given much thought to this until just recently. My "sick" baby got a hold of my makeup brushes and put one of them in her mouth. I was instantly grossed out.

Are you past cleaning your makeup brushes and just need new ones?

I googled how to clean makeup brushes and found that it is incredibly easy.

First off I headed over to the Makeup Geek and found that there are many ways to clean your brushes. I of course love simple and easy. Since my brushes aren't terribly expensive I chose one of the cheaper routes, which is....

Baby Shampoo!!! Yup, that is it. I put a few small drops of baby shampoo into a glass of warm water, mixed it around and stuck my brushes in.

It was kind of gross to the water change to an instant brown...yuck.

Instructions:

Few drops of baby shampoo in luke warm water.

Mix around brushes

Let sit for a few minutes

Rinse the brushes out

Place brushes in a cup/bowl of clean water (may need to do this a few times until the water is pretty much clear.

Squeeze excess water from brushes

Let air dry (before they are completely dry reshape brushes if necessary.

I was very impressed with the baby shampoo. My brushes still feel soft.

Just feel the need to share this quote today. I have this printed and displayed in my bedroom so that I will see it each day and remember what the importants things are to focus on in my relationship.

How often do we focus on what our spouse is doing wrong?

I had a friend mention today that when her husband comes in from working on the car and cleans his dirty hands in the sink she could get upset with him for splattering dirt everywhere and for wiping those dirty hands on her clean dish towels...But, instead she choices to be grateful that she has a husband who can repair cars and that it's no big deal to wipe down the sink/counters and throw the dirty towels in the wash.

It was exactly what I needed to hear today.

Yummy Healthy Enchiladas

I can't believe how wonderfully delicious these SUPER HEALTHY ENCHILADAS are!

But, before we get to the enchilada recipe here is my issue to which I woud love to receive some motivational comments :)

Does anyone else struggle with stay motivated during the week to stay healthy? I sure do! I need to gain motivation and have it last! I love the idea of being on the 80-20 eating plan, which is eating GREAT 80% of the time and whatever you want 20% of the time.

Now I just need to figure out how to stay motivated for 5 whole days so that I can enjoy those 2 days (80-20 plan) and not feel guilty at all.

Any thoughts bloggy world??? I would love to hear them :)

And now to the Healthy Me recipe

I became inspired to post this healthy dinner recipe after a conversation with my sister, which lead to being frustrated with the people who can eat healthy and STAY away from the junk.

Wouldn't we all eat better if the food we love is healthy too? I'd like to think so :)

A Blog Re-Vamp & Running Stretching Tips

I have decided that my blog needs to be re-vamped

When I started this site I tried to focus on a variety of things. However, I soon realized that there was no primary focus and therefore, I couldn't get too many followers. So I then decided to focus primarily on what I love...DESIGNING! That has been great, but now I am ready to broaden my horizon in a way that can be focused and controlled....hopefully :)

You see, my life isn't just about designing - as fun as that may be - It's also about being a wife, mom, and learning how to take care of everything in between, from eating healthier, running, taking care of the finances and ALWAYS trying to find ways to save money, while loving to spend it at the same time. LOL.

So here it is, the same blog, Scobell Expressions, but now focused on life as I know it.

Hope that you all enjoy it. Hopefully this will become a place that you will turn to for inspiration and guidance.

Run Run Run, Love Me Some Running.

So here it is. I love running. I always get really into it and then sort of slack off. The next thing I know it's been 3 weeks and I can barely run a mile. Ughhh. If only I can figure out how to stay motivated when when there are too many other things getting in the way.

I will have to figure out how to work on that in.

In the mean time I AM currently running :) And it feels so good. I always have to push through that 1st mile, but once I have I am eager to keep on keeping on :)

I just discovered that there is a 5K on Thanksgiving day here in grand ol' American Fork. I am excited to run it because all of the proceeds are going to a dear friend who is fighting the cancer battle right now. It is so unfortunate that she has to go through this. However, I am happy to have found a way to help out.

Sooooo, it's time to run run run. I am at 2 miles right now. I have 1 month to run 3 miles comfortably. I know I can do.

I just found this great article:

4 exercises to do 10 minutes before your run to help increase your speed & prevent injuries.

I gave these exercises a try yesterday. I could really feel the tightness in my hips.

These 4 exercises proved to be a good tip. They felt good, plus I noticed that I was running at a "5" on my treadmill for longer periods of time than I usually do.

Halloween Ghost Costume

I just love this time of the year. Halloween is the best. I love to decorate and now that I have a little one I get to make cute little costumes.

I was inspired by a costume that I saw on Pinterest - of course! Isn't that where ALL inspirations come from? lol. What I love most is how stinkin' easy it was to make.

I went to Joann's to get Tulle, which was on sale - Woot Woot! And I got some black and white fabric, Googly eyes and crochet head band material on a spool. I believe that I didn't spend more than $10 dollars...well, I had to buy a white shirt too which was $4, so I guess I spent $14 :)

The crochet headband tu-tu skirts are so easy!

Measure out how much headband you will need and cut. You can either hand sew it together now or wait until you are done adding all the tulle and then sew it.

All you have to do is fold your tulle over - slip it threw one of the holes on the headband - and make a knot.

Now for the shirt all I did was select some cute material and cut out ovals for the ghost eyes. I used iron on adhesive to attach them to the shirt. Then I hot glued the eyes on top of the ovals.

And wa-la! You have a super cute and easy Ghost costume for your little one :)

I realize that it is the wrong time of the year for water parties. However, it's always the perfect time of the year for dress up parties!
