Not to be outdone by those 'other' ultra expensive gem rich timepieces, watch maker Girard Perregaux creates what is possibly it's most expensive watch yet - and it's for the ladies. The popular Cat's Eye line serves as the base for the Girard Perregaux Cat's Eye Haute Joaillerie fully diamond encrusted watch.

For those who haven't made the connection (or know French) "joaillerie" means "jewelry." This watch is as much decoration as it is a fine timepiece with a Girard Perregaux automatic GP033R0 mechanical movement inside; visible through the sapphire crystal covered caseback window. The 35.25mm x 30.25mm case itself is18k white gold, with an interesting close-link bracelet (can you wear the extra links as jewelry too after sizing the watch?). I really like how the crown, with its star shape engraving, is set into the case itself, only protruding when you set the watch. Aside from the small seconds dial (part of the crescent moon), the face features a power reserve indicator that makes up the comet trail for the star in between the 3 and 4 o'clock position.

Last year, the largest D-color flawless diamond sold for nearly £8 million at Sotheby’s. Now, Christie’s might see a diamond being sold out for as much as £10 million when it goes on sale in London on December 10.

This extraordinary blue-grey diamond was given to Infanta Margarita Teresa by her father King Philip IV of Spain. This girl was the portrayed in Las Meninas, the famed painting by Spaniard Diego Velázquez. It is said that the Wittelsbach diamond is originated from the Indian diamond mines. It was then passed into the Austrian and then Bavarian crown jewels, before being sold into individual hands in 1931.

This stunning 35.56 carat gem is almost an inch across and is the star lot in Christie’s auction Jewels: The London Sale. The nearest comparable coloured diamond sold at Christie's was one just a third of the size, a 13.39 carat intense blue diamond that fetched $8.9 million (£5.5 million) in May.

François Curiel, chairman of Christie's Europe and its international head of jewellery, said: "It is a great honour and a lifetime dream to handle a museum quality stone such as the Wittelsbach.

"The appearance of a large blue diamond, among the rarest of colours, with a history that can be traced back to the 17th century and 300 years of royal connections will surely be a thrilling occasion for all collectors of exceedingly rare jewels and works of art."

Letseng Mine Discovered the 20th Largest Rough Diamond

A huge gem stone which could become the largest polished round diamond in history has been discovered.

Letseng Mine, in Lesotho, a small kingdom in South Africa, discover the 20th largest rough diamond that weighs 478 carats and is said to be of outstanding clarity.

Letseng Mine has already delivered three of the world’s largest diamonds: the 603-carat Lesotho Promise, the 493-carat Leteng Legacy and the 601-carat Lesotho Brown. A similar but smaller-sized rough stone has recently been valued at $12 million.

It is estimated to be capable of producing a 150 carat polished gem stone, dwarfing the Koh-i-Noor diamond which is part of the Crown Jewels.

A spokesman for Gem Diamonds, who own the mine, added that initial examination suggested that the white diamond, which has yet to be named and valued, has a completely flawless centre

$8,219 Beijing Olympic Diamond iPhone

It looks like the Apple iPhone is getting a piece of the Olympic action. In commemoration of the Beijing summer olympic games, diamond jeweler De Vere's of London has unveiled its latest creation, the diamond-encrusted Beijing Olympic iPhone.

The Diamond iPhone was made up of 88 diamonds set on the front metal bezel, and is designed to coincide with the opening day of the Olympics on August 8, a date that reads 08/08. More importantly, the number 88 also symbolizes wealth for the Chinese.

Ironically, wealth is probably what you'll need to own one of these exclusive diamond-studded iPhones. De Vere's that costs $8,219 for setting the white F/VS diamonds on the iPhone. Believe it or not, customers will still have to provide their own iPhone.

For those who have a bit more spare change in their pockets, De Vere's also offers a 168-diamond version of the Diamond iPhone for about $15,440. Alternatively, you can opt for a 28-diamond version that will set you back, oh, a mere $3,365. (For the Chinese, 168 symbolizes "always prosperous," while the number 28 is usually seen as a sign of "easy wealth").

Turquoise is a hydrous copper aluminum silicate, that occurs in microcrystalline nodules. It is rare and valuable in finer grades and has been prized as a gem and ornamental stone for thousands of years owing to its unique hue. In recent times turquoise, like most other opaque gems, has been devalued by the introduction of treatments, imitations, and synthetics onto the market, some difficult to detect even by experts.

Turquoise is a secondary mineral deposited from circulating waters, and it occurs chiefly as an opaque, granular vein running through a host rock. The substance has been known by many names, but the word turquoise was derived around 16th century from the French language either from the word for Turkish (Turquois) or dark-blue stone (pierre turquin). This may have arisen from a misconception: turquoise does not occur in Turkey but was traded at Turkish bazaars to Venetian merchants who brought it to Europe.

The use of turquoise dates back to 3000 B.C.- 4000 B.C.in the Sinai. It was the primary holy stone for Native Americans living in the Southwestern United States. Every Navajo carried a "personal" piece of turquoise. Middle Eastern tradition claimed that turquoise prevented accidents, especially falling. It was a talisman for horsemen, to keep them from falling off the horse. This belief carried over to Europe, evolving into the belief that if one did fall, no bones would be broken.

The healing power of turquoise is said to be a guard against all diseases. It assist in tissue regeneration, subtle body alignment & strengthening. It has been thought to warn the wearer of danger or illness by changing color. Turquoise is also believed to bring happiness and good fortune to all.
