Tips on Managing a Home-Based Business

A home-based business gives us freedom in ways we would never have working for a corporation, or for someone else. But it also poses a different set of challenges that must be considered, i.e. working around our children’s needs at home, family or neighbors thinking you can be called on anytime day or night because you’re “home”, grocery shopping, laundry, and all of the possible distractions imaginable since they are right there in front of you.

They are not difficult to work through if you stay focused and disciplined.

Tips that will help keep you focused:

1. Schedule EVERYTHING!

This means schedule everything in your calendar, including time with your children, calling your mom, and of course, calling customer/prospects. This will keep you focused and train your family and neighbors to understand that you do work from home. Obviously, if something comes up, or if you want a little time off, you can veer somewhat from the schedule. That is the beauty of working from home. But the general schedule must be kept in mind to keep you focused and others aware.

2. Create an office space where you do nothing else but conduct business.

This creates a physical and mental space to keep you focused on work when you are in your office. It also helps family members understand that when you are in “work” mode when you are in your office. It create great working habits and helps family members to better understand that you are “busy” as opposed to when you shut the office door and you are in the relaxed or family mode.

3. Present a professional image.

Creating an office space, and dressing for work, brings out the professional in you and it will comes across to your customers/prospects as you speak on the phone to them. Make sure your office space is away from the TV, kids, and barking dogs. This is often overlooked by work-at-home professionals because we are not on the other side of the phone line listening in. Imagine stepping in your customer’s shoes and hearing any one of these as you are speaking on the phone. You might question whether or not the job will get done, or get done right. Would you take the risk to spend your hard-earned money on someone under these circumstances when there are plenty of competitors to go to instead?

4. Write out your daily goals, and start your day by keeping them in mind.

It’s okay if you don’t meet ALL of them, but writing them out makes, and keeps, you more committed to your goals. It also helps you to focus on meeting them. Keep them realistic, and don’t judge yourself harshly if you don’t meet all of them. Do your best, see where you can improve, accept where you made a judgment call to spend a little more time with your toddler instead, and adjust your goals for the next day accordingly, bearing in mind that you must meet a minimum set of goals to make the bills/goals.

5. Balance your work and social time.

This can be very difficult for work-at-home professionals because our business phone is in the same place we live. We tend to answer it when it rings because we want to get “just one more” customer. Work-at-home professionals can be at risk for becoming workaholics pursuing and building our business and financial goals. You will be more productive, and have a balanced perspective, by giving yourself time off, and/or spending time with friends and family.

6. Keep up with new and changing trends in your industry.

Updating your knowledge with the changing trends in your industry is crucial to the life of your business. Investing in the training and software provided by ITV Ventures is well worth the money. You will be motivated, enjoy what you do, stay focused, be disciplined, be productive, and feel a sense of satisfaction from your accomplishments if you do. It will feed your soul!

Donald Barrett, the CEO of ITV Ventures, has been doing infomercials on health and wellness products for over 8 years. He brought it into the home based business arena 1 and ½ years ago. ITV Ventures is unlike any other home based business. You do not have to bug your friends, family, or neighbors like other businesses. There are 16 ways to make money in the business. I will cover the 3 main ways to make the best of the opportunity as you begin your business as an IBO, because the other ways are based on income as bonuses as your income increases. Check the FAQs section to find out the other ways.

A. The first way to make money is through retail commission. How this works is: ITV Ventures products are marked up 80-100%. For example, if a product sells for $40, you make $15-$20 commission on that product.

Many customers sign up for the Order Assurance Program ("OAP") which is an automatic shipping program. There are two reasons they do this: a) they get the product sent to them every month at a discounted rate, and b) they don’t have to call in to reorder it. In the example above, if a customer on the OAP places an order that makes you $15-$20 commission every month after they sign up for the program, you make a monthly residual income based on the OAP without speaking to the customer. Why? When you sign up a customer, they are your customer for life because the customer is linked to you through the computer system. Because of that, IBOs aren’t just order-takers. IBOs develop a relationship with the customer.

Within that relationship, there are added opportunities to benefit the customer by offering other products in the top quality ITV Ventures product line that are specific to the customer's needs. How do you know what the customer needs? You build a personal relationship with the customer so that you know each individual's needs.

Here is a hypothetical as to the residual income that might be made from retail commissions. For example, if you only signed up two customers per week for 50 weeks, you would have 100 customers. 100 X $15-$20 (your commission) = $1500-$2000 per month.

B. The second way to make money is by referring people to the business. For every person you refer to the business Premier option you earn $100 commission from the product sample package they receive (they receive $400 worth of ITV Venture's most popular products to sample for themselves, the best way to get to know the products' benefits first-hand).

C. The third way to make money is by building your personal organization and accumulating residual income which is based on the fact that you will make an average of 5-7% on all the products everyone in your organization sells. With this bonus, you are paid on a sales organization that can grow to over 21,000 people.

You do not have to opt for all of these ways to make money. If you decide to retail alone, you can accumulate wealth through the retail commissions very nicely. You can increase your wealth by building an organization. You can do both. The option is yours.

Those are basically the 3 ways that you make money.

To come into the business the Premier Package cost is $299. This is what you receive:

Okay, I made reference to our Home Agent Program ("HAP") before and that there were some licensing fees and costs involved with the HAP program. Donald Barrett has created a Home Agent starter kit. This great package is only $299. What you get for that is:

1. The ability to answer calls coming in from infomercials into your home! Donald spends $50 million a year on advertising costs, and we accept the calls from home. Customers do not have access to phone numbers until you decide to give it to them, and the leads are very warm! Donald carries the greater burden of the advertising costs for the IBOs so that we can build our businesses and make income from home.

2. A background check on every IBO because ITV Ventures accepts and processes credit cards in order to increase sales opportunities for every IBO. This cost of $49.95 is included in the $299 Home Agent starter kit.

3. ITV Ventures has an excellent training program for HAP that certifies you to take calls into your home. The cost of that training is $149.95, which is already included in the $299.

4. There is a software licensing fee for HAP because the calls are accepted through a software program downloaded onto your computer. This is a cost of $59.95 every month, a cost of doing business, and this cost for your first month is included in the $299.

5. You also receive 200 call credits which is a $200 value. IBOs buy media in the form of call credits. Call credits cost $1 each, and the number of credits needed for each call ranges from $5 to $25, depending on which product you want to take calls for at your option at anytime. You purchase them as you need them, but you are given 200 to start as part of the HAP starter kit for trial purposes. Donald Barrett spends about $1 million dollars per week on advertising for the IBOs. Buying media call credits contributes to the media costs, but it’s only a fraction of what it costs for Donald to advertise.
