"Status Update"

Greeting MbM family it's good to be able to greet you after such a long sabbatical. I have just had the final surgery on my hands and am happy to report that all is going well and I hope to resume teaching sometime in October or November.

Thanks for keeping me in your prayers and thanks be to God who always gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! Amen!!!

Just wanted to give you a brief update on my status and the good news of my soon return I pray that all has been well with each of you and that you will rejoin me in Oct or Nov (if not sooner) as we continue our teachings on "The Great Intercessors of the Bible"

Greetings All,

Just a brief note to let you know what's happening with the Morning by Morning post. I have been having some difficulties with my hands now for quite some time. The time has come for me to have surgery on them starting with the right hand on 7/2/2013 I'm not sure what the status will be afterwards or how long before I can resume using the right hand.

I will try to see if I can do it with only my left hand but can't promise. Please pray that I have a speedy recovery and will be able to resume working much sooner than what they are predicting.
Upon my return I will resume the final stages of "Great Intercessors of the Bible" we're nearly finished and only have about 3 or 4 more to go...I think. I do have six other post that I make each day and I want be able to rest until I'm back at it again.

I promise as soon as possible I will be back on schedule. Thank you for your faithfulness during these past several months, I have enjoyed each and every post and look forward to many, many more.

Be blessed and continue to pray that the Father's will be done in the Earth.

#114“Great Intercessors of the Bible”

The Church – Pt. 3

(Called Out Ones or Dedicated To The Lord)

“One day as they were worshiping God--they were also fasting

as they waited for guidance--the Holy Spirit spoke:

"Take Barnabas and Saul and commission them

for the work I have called them to do."

(Act 13:2)

The Message Bible (MSG)

One of the greatest challenges that The Church was facing during this time was the jealousy of the Jewish teachers and religious leaders. You would think that they would be embracing the Gospel of the kingdom of heaven but they were not. Why? Because they were threatened by the teaching of Jesus Christ because the people believed that He was the Messiah, “When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”They replied, “Some say, John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:13-15) Peter and the disciples were not the only ones who believed there were thousands upon thousands who believed and that number was growing more and more daily since His death, burier and resurrection.

This was why the religious leaders…Scribe, Pharisees and Sadducees fought so hard against the church. Why because they know that more and more people believed on the Name of Jesus. They were afraid of losing control of the people and that they would no listen to their teaching any longer. “Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” (Matthew 16:17-18)

Because of this the church was in what would seem like a perpetual mood of intercession, because they needed to constantly consult with the Lord for guidance and direction. “One day as they were worshiping God--they were also fasting as they waited for guidance--the Holy Spirit spoke: "Take Barnabas and Saul and commission them for the work I have called them to do. (Act 13:2)

This passage so blesses me because sometimes I encounter people that God have called to “GO” but because of this they think that they can just go! Yes it may be true that you are called to go but you should inquire of the Lord where it is He wants you to go; because even though you may be called to go, the grace upon your life is for specific places not every places you can go. “So they commissioned them. In that circle of intensity and obedience, of fasting and praying, they laid hands on their heads and sent them off. Sent off on their new assignment by the Holy Spirit, Barnabas and Saul went down to Seleucia and caught a ship for Cyprus. The first thing they did when they put in at Salamis was preach God's Word in the Jewish meeting places. They had John along to help out as needed. (Act 13:3-5) The fact is you need special grace to deal with situation and people that you will encounter and this grace and anointing is given when the Lord instructs you where to go. Why? Because He has already prepared the way for you and made provision for your ministry there…you can go somewhere else, but the anointing you need want be there.

“They traveled the length of the island, and at Paphos came upon a Jewish wizard. who had worked himself into the confidence of the governor, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man not easily taken in by charlatans. The wizard's name was Bar-Jesus (son of Joshua). He was as crooked as a corkscrew. The governor invited Barnabas and Saul in, wanting to hear God's Word firsthand from them. But Dr. Know-It-All (that's the wizard's name in plain English) stirred up a ruckus, trying to divert the governor from becoming a believer.

But Saul (or Paul), full of the Holy Spirit and looking him straight in the eye, said, "You bag of wind, you parody of a devil--why, you stay up nights inventing schemes to cheat people out of God. (Act 13:6-9) This wizard had held the people captive with his bag of magic trick for quite some time but what He didn’t know was that his magic would have no power when face to face with the servants of the Most High God. “But now you've come up against God himself, and your game is up. You're about to go blind--no sunlight for you for a good long stretch." He was plunged immediately into a shadowy mist and stumbled around, begging people to take his hand and show him the way. (Act 13:10) Paul, Barnabas and John were anointed for this demonstration of God’s powerful sign and wonder, this is why they had been singled out by the Holy Spirit.

Because of this great miracle look what happened, “When the governor saw what happened, he became a believer, full of enthusiasm over what they were saying about the Master.” (Act 13:11) Beloved remember that, “many are called but few are chosen,” Paul and Barnabas had been chosen for this assignment by the Holy Spirit and He was with them every step of the way. In our next lesson we’ll see other instances of when Paul and his team wanted to travel into certain countries but couldn’t; because the Holy Spirit wouldn’t allow them too. We must understand that it is by God’s leading that we do what we do, we should always seek His counsel as to whether or not we should go or not. Let us always strive to be in God’s perfect will not his permissive will; for it is only in the perfect will of God will we have or greatest successes.

My Prayer: Father God, as we start following the missionary journey of the Apostle help us to see how they totally relied upon your guidance and direction for their travels. Although sometimes we may want to participate in different events they may not be in your perfect will for us at that time, help us to be able to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit which is instructing us which way to go. Even in our prayer time Father give us a kin ear to hear what the Spirit is saying for us to say and pray. Thank You Father for giving us wisdom and understanding on how to follow You, in Jesus’ precious name we pray, Amen!!!

The Church – Pt. 2

(Called Out Ones or Dedicated To The Lord)

“When Peter had come to himself, he said,

"Now I truly know that the Lord has sent out

His angel and delivered me out of the hand of Herod,
and from everything the Jewish people were expecting."

(Act 12:11)

Have you ever had a dream that seemed so real that when you woke up you were looking for the manifestation of the dream? Peter was sleeping comfortably between two guards, when an Angel of the Lord appeared and struck him on the side to awaken him. “Stand up quickly!" His chains fell off from his hands. The angel said to him, "Get dressed and put on your sandals." He did so. He said to him, "Put on your cloak, and follow me." And he went out and followed him. He didn't know that what was being done by the angel was real, but thought he saw a vision. When they were past the first and the second guard, they came to the Iron Gate that leads into the city, which opened to them by itself. They went out, and went down one street, and immediately the angel departed from him.” (Acts 12:7b-10)

The key thing that I’ll point out is that, the Angel of God was an answer to intercession by the church. They had not ceased praying for Peter’s deliverance since his capture. God didn’t just deliver Peter he sent angelic assistance. “Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall inherit salvation?” (Hebrews 1:14) As intercessors of the Lord we have the right and authority to command the angels who have been assigned to minister unto us...who will inherit salvation through Jesus Christ. I’m also reminded of Daniel, who said to the King, “My God sent his angel and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty."

In essence when we pray all of heaven responds to our partitions and goes into action to bring it into being. This is why it is so important that we pray in agreement with the will of God for this earth. When we stand in agreement with heaven the God can freely move in behalf of our prayers and intercession. Just like Peter God will send His ministering spirits to deliver us and bring us out; then we will see door (gates) opening up before us. We like Peter will sometimes find ourselves standing and wondering what just happened. “When Peter had come to himself, he said, "Now I truly know that the Lord has sent out his angel and delivered me out of the hand of Herod,
and from everything the Jewish people were expecting."

Now go and tell somebody what God has done for you and how He brought you out by His mighty hand. “Thinking about that, he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered together and were praying.” Peter headed straight to the house of Mark were the church was gathered praying for His release…not knowing that God had already set him free. When we are praying for someone we often times grow weary and stop praying but like the church there are times we should continue praying until we see or hear that person telling us about the goodness of God’s deliverance.

“When Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a maid named Rhoda came to answer. When she recognized Peter's voice, she didn't open the gate for joy, but ran in, and reported that Peter was standing in front of the gate. They said to her, "You are crazy!" But she insisted that it was so. They said, "It is his angel." But Peter continued knocking. When they had opened, they saw him, and were amazed.” (Acts 12:13-16) Beloved, so many people are standing at the door of deliverance, just waiting to hear someone say come on into the House of God… don’t stop praying for those souls that are in prison with a death sentence hanging over their heads. They don’t now that Jesus has already given them the keys to unlock the door and go free. Keep praying, continue in your intercession until you see or hear about that person’s deliverance.

My Prayer: Father God what power and authority you have given us though Jesus. Thank you for angels who will do your bidding as ministering spirits. We lift up those whom we’ve been praying and interceding for over the years and we say think you Lord for their deliverance and salvation. Open the prison doors and lead them out by the straight gate of Your righteousness. Thank You for giving them access to locked gates which are before them let them open and give them free access to you kingdom blessings. These things we ask in Jesus’ precious name, Amen!!!

#112 “Great Intercessors of the Bible”

The Church – Pt.1

(Called Out Ones or Dedicated To The Lord)

“Peter therefore was kept in the prison,
but constant prayer was made by the,

church to God for him!"

(Act 12:5)

I’m not sure about anyone else but this series has been absolutely amazing for me! I’m founding out about intercessors that I never know existed; however, during my research they are being revealed. I love this, yet I know that we will soon conclude this series of lessons; however, I knew that the Lord has something equally as amazing in store. With that said let’s get started on the next “Great Intercessors of the Bible” The Church. Since the day of John the Baptist, the kingdom has been in under attack. “And from the days of John the Baptist until the present time, the kingdom of heaven has endured violent assault, and violent men seize it by force [as a precious prize—a share in the heavenly kingdom is sought with most ardent zeal and intense exertion].” (Matthew 11:12)

Because of this intercession and warfare has become an unstoppable force in the church; knowing the value and importance of intercession is paramount. It is because of this we as intercessors cannot afford to be found sleeping on or post; we must stay engaged! In this chapter 12 we see yet another murderous attack upon the church, “Now about that time, Herod the king stretched out his hands to oppress some of the assembly. He killed James, the brother of John, with the sword. When he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also.” (Acts 12:1-3) However this attack cost James his life and appeared that it would take Peter’s as well… “but the church lifted up intercession on Peter’s behalf.” Where would Peter have been if not for the prayers of the church bombarding heaven on His behalf? When we as intercessors storm heaven with a life threading issue It get the attention of heaven!!!

I didn’t read anywhere that Peter was afraid or nervous about what King Harold was doing: it would appear that He was at peace even in the face possible death, “Peter was sleeping between two soldiers…” I’m reminded of Jesus when He was asleep in the boat while a storm was rocking the world of his disciples, he too had to be waken up in order to deal with the storm and order it to, “Peace be Still!” “And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.” (Mark 4:39) This time instead of being awakened by his companions Peter is awaken by and Angle in response to the intercession of the church.

And behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side, and woke him up, saying, "Stand up quickly!" His chains fell off from his hands. The angel said to him, "Get dressed and put on your sandals." He did so. He said to him, "Put on your cloak, and follow me." And he went out and followed him. He didn't know that what was being done by the angel was real, but thought he saw a vision. They went out, and went down one street, and immediately the angel departed from him.” What was interesting about the story is that Peter himself didn’t know that he was being divinely delivered: is there any wonder that the church couldn’t believe he had been delivered either. I’ll admit that the church was in it’s earlier years and that would prove to be an invaluable application lesion for them.

In our nest lesion we will take a closer look at the reaction of Peter and the Church in light of this miraculous deliverance.

My Prayer: Father God, we worship you and give you praise today, as we study the events of the book of Acts we are keenly aware that; although this book is only 28 chapters long we are still writing the Book of Acts Thank You for giving us the words, provision and guidance we will need to complete this book in Jesus’ precious name we pray, Amen!!!

#111 “Great Intercessors of the Bible”

Cornelius – Pt.3

(Horn, Strong Willed or Wise)

"While Peter was still speaking these words,
the Holy Spirit fell on all those who heard the word."

(Acts 10:44)

Now we come to the conclusion of our teaching on Cornelius another “Great Intercessor of the Bible”. In this teaching we see God breaking down the walls of prejudice among the Jewish people and the Gentiles. By bring Peter to the home of Cornelius to preach the gospel to him and his entire household. “Peter opened his mouth and said, "Truly I perceive that God doesn't show favoritism; but in every nation He who fears Him and works righteousness is acceptable to Him. The word which He sent to the children of Israel, preaching good news of peace by Jesus Christ--He is Lord of all--that spoken word you yourselves know, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; even Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.” (Acts 10:43-48)

Peter said, “Truly I perceive that God doesn't show favoritism; but in every nation He who fears Him and works righteousness is acceptable to Him.” I love this verse because it is a reminder that no matter where you come from or what your status is in this earth God will honor His word without showing partiality. “But if you embrace the way God does things, there are wonderful payoffs, again without regard to where you are from or how you were brought up. Being a Jew won’t give you an automatic stamp of approval. God pays no attention to what others say (or what you think) about you. He makes up his own mind.” (Romans 2:10-11) What a blessing knowing this can be for those who call upon the name of the Lord, knowing that regardless to your circumstances he will hear you and answer!

Peter said, “He charged us to preach to the people and to testify that this is he who is appointed by God as the Judge of the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about him, that through his name everyone who believes in him will receive remission of sin.” Oh what a blessing it is to know that all men have a right to have their sins forgiven by the Lord!!! “For the scripture said, “Whoever believes on Him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Gentiles: for the same Lord over all is rich to all that call on Him. For whoever shall call on the name of the Lord, shall be saved.” (Romans 10:11-13) “Whoever calls on the name of the Lord…” beloved this is promise you can take to the bank!!!

After the word of the gospel was preached, “Peter wasn’t planning to stop at this point, but the Holy Spirit suddenly interrupted and came upon all the people who were listening. ^45-46They began speaking in foreign languages (just as the Jewish disciples did on the Day of Pentecost), and their hearts overflowed in joyful praises to God. Peter’s friends from Joppa—all of them Jewish, all circumcised—were stunned to see that the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out even on outsiders.” We as intercessor have to believe that when we pray and declare the word of God into a situation that the power of God will fall in that situation and bring salvation. The word of God works! It doesn’t matter if it’s being preached to sinners or declared during a time of prayer and intercession… “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and returns not thither, but waters the earth, and makes it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goes forth out of my mouth: it shall not return to me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. For you shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. (Isaiah 55:10-12)

God’s word will produce life when spoken in the life of the unsaved! Thanks to Cornelius the Holy Spirit was poured out upon the gentile nation giving us the same inheritance of God, as the Jewish nation; because of his faithfulness in prayer and intercession. Hold on and don’t let go of your intercession the day will come when you too like Cornelius will see the fruit of your intercession.

My Prayer: Heavenly Father, what a joy and honor it is to pray and intercede on behalf of other, even more to see or hear of the impact of our intercessions. Although Cornelius never knew the impact of his prayer outside of that of his own family; nevertheless his prayers transcended time and space reaching even into the realm of the future. Now thousands of years later the impacts of his prayers are still being felt on the seashores of time even today. Father when we pray let our prayers and intercessions have such weight and authority that it too can transcend time and space, touching distant shores in future times; changing and transforming lives of many whom we may never know or see in this life. Thank you for the privilege of sharing with you in intercession for the souls of men. In the precious name of Your Son Jesus Christ…Amen!

Cornelius – Pt.2

"Your prayers and your gifts to the needy have gone up for

a memorial before God. Now send men to Joppa, and get

Simon, who is surnamed Peter!"

(Acts 10:5)

Now let’s pick-up where we lift off in our last lesion, Cornelius had a vision of an Angel of the Lord, who had instructed him to send for Peter, “Cornelius, your prayers and your gifts to the needy have gone up for a memorial before God. Now send men to Joppa, and get Simon, who is surnamed Peter. (Acts 10:5) Cornelius followed the instruction of the Angel and immediately sent some of his servants go to get Peter. This made Cornelius what is known as “first fruit” for the Gentiles; because He was responsible for his whole family being Baptized and accepted into the Christian Faith. But what Cornelius did was not only for his family but it gave access to all gentles as well.

Because the Lord God had been working on peter about not calling anything He had created unclean, Now on the next day as they were on their journey, and got close to the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray at about noon. He became hungry and desired to eat, but while they were preparing, he fell into a trance. He saw heaven opened and a certain container descending to him, like a great sheet let down by four corners on the earth, in which were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild animals, reptiles, and birds of the sky. A voice came to him, "Rise, Peter, kill and eat!" But Peter said, “Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean." A voice came to him again the second time, "What God has cleansed, you must not call unclean." This was done three times, and immediately the vessel was received up into heaven.” (Acts 10:9-16)

Peter like some people today felt that the his race (Jews) were superior to all other races and would have had a difficult time excepting the gentles as heirs to the promise of God; this is why God had to tell him, “What God has created, you must not call unclean.” God made sure that everyone who wanted to come to Him could come, “Come to me all you who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) I love the why God orchestrates things; here are two men, whom unbeknown to each other are having simultaneous visions pertaining to the same thing. One is instructed to send for Peter a Jewish man, the other; Peter is having a vision telling him that everything God has created is clean, just before Gentiles arrives at the door inquiring after Him.

What’s even more fascinating is that neither of them fully understood what God was about to do! Yet Peter went along with them fully trusting God and not doubting a thing He was doing. “Now while Peter was very perplexed in himself what the vision which he had seen might mean, behold, the men who were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon's house, stood before the gate, and called and asked whether Simon, who was surnamed Peter, was lodging there. While Peter was pondering the vision, the Spirit said to him, "Behold, three men seek you. But arise, get down, and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them." Peter went down to the men, and said, "Behold, I am he whom you seek. Why have you come?" They said, "Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous man and one who fears God, and well spoken of by all the nation of the Jews, was directed by a holy angel to invite you to his house, and to listen to what you say." So he called them in and lodged them.”

Peter had been chosen to preach Christ to the Gentiles and witness the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon them, although Paul would be the one who primarily ministered to them. Nevertheless, I believe this was needful so that there would be no doubt that God had poured out the Holy Spirit upon Jews and Gentiles alike. Proving that He truly had no respect of persons and that all that called upon the name of the Lord would in fact be saved whether Jew or Gentile. God had pronounced the Gentiles clean and therefore they were qualified to hear the Gospel “On the next day Peter arose and went out with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa accompanied him.” On the next day they entered into Caesarea. Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his relatives and his near friends. When it happened that Peter entered, Cornelius met him, fell down at his feet, and worshiped him. But Peter raised him up, saying, "Stand up! I myself am also a man." As he talked with him, he went in and found many gathered together.

He said to them, "You yourselves know how it is an unlawful thing for a man who is a Jew to join himself or come to one of another nation, but God has shown me that I shouldn't call any man unholy or unclean. Therefore also I came without complaint when I was sent for. I ask therefore, why did you send for me?”(Acts 10:24-29) I often wonder how this story could be applied to our lives today, who is that you think is unclean and unholy and you cannot go to them and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

When Jesus was here on earth his life and ministry touched every kind of people, blind, lamb, holt, so called clean and unclean, leapers, raised dead men and even hypocrites."THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR. HE HAS SENT ME TO PROCLAIM RELEASE TO THE CAPTIVES, AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET FREE THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED" (Luke 4:18) Yet we say we can’t go where they are because, their environment is unclean… what better place to take the cleansing power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Whenever you are having doubts about going to speak to someone, which you feel the Lord has placed on your heart, don’t doubt; because, if he is sending you to them then he is also preparing the way for your message. Just as He prepared Peter for what He was getting ready to do through Cornelius so too He well prepare you. This reminds me of a song I use to sing years ago, "Carry the Water to The Desert"... the sick ones need the doctor, I'm gonna stop this hauling water to the sea."

The Lord told Cornelius when Peter arrives he will speak to you. Cornelius, told Peter what happen and why he had sent for him, then he said, “Therefore I sent to you at once, and it was good of you to come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God to hear all things that have been commanded you by God.” (Acts 10:33)

Peter opened his mouth and said, "Truly I perceive that God doesn't show favoritism; but in every nation he who fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him. The word which he sent to the children of Israel, reaching good news of peace by Jesus Christ--he is Lord of all--that spoken word you yourselves know, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; even Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

We are witnesses of everything he did both in the country of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they also killed, hanging him on a tree. God raised him up the third day, and gave him to be revealed, not to all the people, but to witnesses who were chosen before by God, to us, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He charged us to preach to the people and to testify that this is he who is appointed by God as the Judge of the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about him, that through his name everyone who believes in him will receive remission of sins.” (Acts 10:34-43)

We never know the impact that our dedication and commitment to prayer and intercession will have; however. we believe the Father hears our prayers and will answer just the same. I like to liken our intercession to the wave of the sea. When you’re standing on the seashore and a waive comes and dashes against you, there is no way for you to know from whist it came; for all you know it’s origination point could have been off the coast of China or Africa. Intercession is much like that, no matter where it has come from once it has gone out, it is far reaching and you never know who or how many people will be caught in its wake. As we will learn in our next lesson, the same was true with Cornelius, he never know that his intercession before God would have a wake which traveled across generation not just his family.

Cornelius – Pt. 1
(Horn or Strong Willed and Wise)

“About the ninth hour of the day he clearly saw in a vision

an angel of God who had just come in to him,

and said to him, "Cornelius!"

(Acts 10:3-4)

Now that we’ve finished our study on Saul of Tarsus let’s take a look at another “Great Intercessor of the Bible” named “Cornelius” who was known as a Centurion who was a part of an Italian band at Caesarea (Acts 10) Cornelius was a very devout man who feared God as well as His whole household. Just like Joshua, “If you think it's the wrong thing for you to serve the LORD, then choose for yourselves today whom you will serve—the gods whom your ancestors served on the other side of the Euphrates River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose territories you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24:15) Cornelius had decided that not only would he serve the true and living God, But so would his whole house.

You see once Cornelius found out about the True and Living God, he packed up everything and moved his entire family to the Holy Land, in order to take full advantage of this divine opportunity. Cornelius embraced fully his new life and was well known for his generosity in giving alms to the poor; which signified his true nature being self sacrificing as well as his dedication to his new faith. “There was a man named Cornelius who lived in Caesarea, captain of the Italian Guard stationed there. He was a thoroughly good man. He had led everyone in his house to live worshipfully before God, was always helping people in need, and had the habit of prayer.” (Acts 10:1-2) Cornelius loved the Lord and worshiped God and was an intercessor who prayed continuously to God.

One day while in prayer Cornelius had a vision of an Angel of the Lord, that called him by name “One day about three o’clock in the afternoon he had a vision. An angel of God, as real as his next-door neighbor, came in and said, “Cornelius.” Cornelius stared hard, wondering if he was seeing things. Then he said, “What do you want, sir?” (Acts 10:3-5) Beloved it is a marvelous thing when God is so familiar with your intercession that he can call you by name!

Because of Cornelius dedication and commitment to prayer God had chosen him to be a catalyst for the “Blessing of the Gentiles” the release of the Holy Spirit upon the gentiles. “Cornelius stared hard, wondering if he was seeing things. Then he said, “What do you want, sir?”The angel said, “Your prayers and neighborly acts have brought you to God’s attention. Here’s what you are to do. Send men to Joppa to get Simon, the one everyone calls Peter. He is staying with Simon the Tanner, whose house is down by the sea.” As soon as the angel was gone, Cornelius called two servants and one particularly devout soldier from the guard. He went over with them in great detail everything that had just happened, and then sent them off to Joppa.”

In the meantime God was busily at working breaking down the prejudice in his servant Peter who was a Jew and considered the Gentiles to be unclean and unholy. “The next day as the three travelers were approaching the town, Peter went out on the balcony to pray. It was about noon. Peter got hungry and started thinking about lunch. While lunch was being prepared, he fell into a trance. He saw the skies open u; something that looked like a huge blanket lowered by ropes at its four corners settled on the ground. Every kind of animal and reptile and bird you could think of was on it. Then a voice came: “Go to it, Peter—kill and eat.” Peter said, “Oh, no, Lord. I’ve never so much as tasted food that was not kosher.” The voice came a second time: “If God says it’s okay, it’s okay.” This happened three times, and then the blanket was pulled back up into the skies.” (Acts 10: 9-13)

Isn’t it amazing that God had to show Peter this vision three times in order for him to grasp what He was speaking to him? I wonder how many times He would have to speak to us, in order to get our attention today? Well I’ve run out of time and will have to continue this lesson on tomorrow so join me right here for the next lesson on Cornelius another “Great Intercessor of the Bible”

My Prayer: Father God thank you for your graciousness and loving-kindness and for faithfulness. and inquire in the house of Judas for one named Saul, a man of Tarsus.”

(Acts 9:13)

How we see Paul the intercessor: who would have believed that this persecutor of the church would be interceding for their salvation? Although Paul prayed for the people in each one of the places he visited, we do not adequately think of Paul as an intercessor. Yet He sought after and obtained, through prayer and supplication, divine power and authority. This same authority and power was upon not only Paul’s life; but also on the churches, which he founded everywhere he traveled.

Several of Paul's prayers of intercession are recorded in the New Testament. In Philippians, Paul prayed: "And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ - to the glory and praise of God." (Philippians 1:9-11)

In Ephesus he prayed: “For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of His glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,” (Ephesians 3:14-20)

In Colossian he prayed: “For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified youto share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” (Colossians 1:9-14)

Who could have imagined that one so great would have come for their intercession, Stephen could only hope that someone in that crowd that day would have heard and believed. So too, do we hope as we intercede for men and women everywhere; that even one would turn from their sinful ways, repent and be saved. For this and this alone we are compelled to press on in prayer and intercession.

My Prayer: Lord God, we are so humbled by the story of Saul of Tarsus and how even in his rage against the church You turned him and brought him to repentance, calling Him to a divine calling... and what a calling it was. As we lift up men and women everywhere we don’t know if there is another Paul and Ananias or even another Peter, John or even Judas Iscariot. But what we do know is You Lord God know all. So use us as You will guide and instruct us as we pray for the lost, sick and hurting. Rise up men and women everywhere to proclaim Your Glorious Gospel throughout this earth…in Jesus’ precious name we pray, Amen!!!

How many times have we prayed and asked God for something and because we ourselves don’t see it happening we think that it hasn’t been done? Such was the case with Saul of Tarsus the church was praying and asking God to intervene and yet when it happened they could not believe it had. While in prayer Ananias had a vision of the Lord calling him eager to reply he said, “Yes Lord it is me!” but he never could have believe what he was about to hear.

“The Lord said to him, "Arise, and go to the street which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judas for one named Saul, a man of Tarsus. For behold, he is praying, and in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming in and laying his hands on him, that he might receive his sight." But Ananias answered, "Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he did to your saints at Jerusalem. Here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on your name." But the Lord said to him, "Go your way, for he is my chosen vessel to bear my name before the nations and kings, and the children of Israel. For I will show him how many things he must suffer for my name's sake."

I’m sure most of us would have replied just as Ananias did, ‘Lord, are you sure you want me to do that?’ This man is killing your followers and now he has authority from the Chief Priest to arrest all he finds and bring them to Jerusalem for trial. This reminds me of the story of Peter, when the church was interceding for his life and release, but when he came knocking on the door they could not believe it was him. Yet Ananias obeyed the Lord and went in search of Saul. “The Lord said to him, "Arise, and go to the street which is called Straight and inquire in the house of Judas for one named Saul, a man of Tarsus. For behold, he is praying, and in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming in, and laying his hands on him, that he might receive his sight." But Ananias answered, "Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he did to your saints at Jerusalem. Here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on your name." But the Lord said to him, "Go your way, for he is my chosen vessel to bear my name before the nations and kings, and the children of Israel. For I will show him how many things he must suffer for my name's sake."

This was just the beginning of Saul’s ministry of prayer and intercession, for there would be many days ahead when I he would find himself in prayer and fasting before the Lord seeking, learning and growing in the things of Christ. “Saul stayed several days with the disciples who were at Damascus. Immediately in the synagogues he proclaimed the Christ, that he is the Son of God. All who heard him were amazed, and said, "Isn't this he who in Jerusalem made havoc of those who called on this name? And he had come here intending to bring them bound before the chief priests!" But Saul increased more in strength and confounded the Jews who lived at Damascus, proving that this is the Christ.”

When we think in terms of an intercessor it increasingly becomes clear that one must understand and see the overwhelming grace of God upon their own life before they can stand in the gap for other lost souls. Here’s what Paul said. “I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace given me through the working of his power. Although I am less than the least of all God’s people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery" (Ephesians 3:7-9)

"I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them— yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me." (1Cor 15:9,10)

If we cannot see the great need in the lives of other, as being as great as our own need for salvation and deliverance then we will not have compassion for them. Saul now saw the riches of the manifold grace of God which was poured out upon him and understood that multitudes of mankind needed the same thing as he did. He was now ready to lay down his life to preach the unsearchable riches of God’s grace to lost souls everywhere. This reminds me of the hymn “Amazing Grace”, which was written by John Newton, an ex-slave ship captain, who when he came face to face with the possibility of death found himself repenting and pleading for mercy, which he himself had not shown… but found and transformed his life. #106 “Great Intercessors of the Bible”

Saul –of Tarsus (Paul)

Humble, Asked for or Prayed for) Pt.1

“He fell on the earth, and heard a voice saying to him,
"Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?"

He said, "Who are you, Lord?"
The Lord said, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting!"

(Acts 6:13)

The VOICE (VOICE)

New we come to the Apostle Paul commonly known as Saul of Tarsus one of the most deadly man to encounter if you were an early disciple of Jesus Christ. “In the mean time, Saul—this fuming, raging, hateful man who wanted to kill every last one of the Lord’s disciples: he went to the high priest in Jerusalem for authorization to purge all the synagogues in Damascus of followers of the way of Jesus. His plan was to arrest and chain any of Jesus’ followers—women as well as men—and transport them back to Jerusalem. ³He traveled north toward Damascus with a group of companions.” (Acts 9:1-3) Saul, the same young man that witnessed the stoning of Stephen… was still breathing out threats and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ even if it meant traveling to ever city and synagogue to track them down.

Why was Saul doing this? Why did he derive such pleasure in seeing the followers of Christ killed? Well for one thing he felt he was doing God a favor, that the followers of Christ were worshipping a false God. “These things have I spoken to you, that you should not be offended. They shall put you out of the synagogues: yes, the time will come, that whoever kills you will think that they have done God a service. But only because they have not known the Father, nor Me.” (John 16:2) In fact Saul was a very devout man and knew the Holy Scriptures yet just like those he was working for, he did not know the hour of His visitation from the Lord.

From our earlier lesson regarding the death of Stephen in Acts 7-8, we know that Saul played an key role in the ensuing riot which lead to Stephen’s stoning. Saul was the go-between for the Chief Priests and Pharisees and also for the king Herod and the Romans. Because of this the Christian Jews would have perceived Saul as being unsavory and not to be trusted, in fact he was to be feared. No one would have imagined that Saul would have become a Christian much less an Apostle. To the Jewish elite he was viewed as a hypocrite but yet it was them who he was working for. They had given him the needed authority to track down any and all followers of Christ and kill them; the believers of Christ were much afraid of him and were watching closely for his arrival in their cities.

Can you imagine the level of intercession which was going forth on behalf of the believers of Christ as they prayed for one another’s safety? The word said, “The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with.”(James 9:8-9) All of the Christian Jews knew that Saul was coming with letters giving him authority to take any follows of Christ into custody and take them to Jerusalem to be tried and killed, just as Stephen had been. They could not stop interceding until God had answered their prayers, and He did but they did not know in what manner He would answer.

“As he traveled, it happened that he got close to Damascus, and suddenly a light from the sky shone around him. He fell on the earth, and heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" He said, "Who are you, Lord?" The Lord said, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. “It is hard for you to kick against the goads.” So he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do You want me to do?” The men who traveled with him stood speechless, hearing the sound, but seeing no one.” (Acts 9:3-7)

Instead of killing the killer God chose to kill the spirit which was driving Him, how? By allowing Him to meet the one he was persecuting instead of the ones he wanted to persecute. What I love about this is that when we pray for God to intervene we never know how He is going to do it. We may be thinking one thing and God steps in and does something completely the opposite. “I don’t think the way you think. The way you work isn’t the way I work.” God Decree, “For as the sky soars high above earth, so the way I work surpasses the way you work and the way I think is beyond the way you think.”(Isaiah 55:8-9) Such was the case with Saul; I doubt very seriously that anyone was praying that God would save him. They just wanted God to deal with him and stop him for his relentless pursuit of them.

Well stopped Saul is just what the Lord did, by the time the Lord had finished speaking to him. “Saul rises to his feet, his eyes wide open, but he can’t see a thing. So his companions lead their blind friend by the hand and take him into Damascus. He waits for three days—completely blind—and does not eat a bite or drink a drop of anything.” (Acts 9:8-9) No doubt each of us may have or have had a Saul in our live, that one person who is out to get you no matter what it takes…on the job or in the community you live in or ever in your family, they just seem to have a personal vendetta against you and will not rest until they have gotten you. Let us take a lesson for today’s lesson and instead of asking God to kill them or stop them let’s ask Him to “Save them” instead. Tomorrow we will continue our study on Saul another “Great Intercessors of the Bible.”

My Prayer: Heavenly Father, gracious and loving God who wills that all men come to repentance and be saved no matter how terrible they may be. Father there Saul of Tarsus in each of our lives and we have interceding asking You to intervene and deliver us for their vengeful wrath. Father we will not presume to tall You how to do Your job so we simply say have You way Lord God and move according to Your divine will and purpose for their lives and ours Thank You Father for making all things well in our lives and theirs, in Jesus’ precious name we pray, Amen!!!

#105 “Great Intercessors of the Bible”

Stephen – Crowned—Pt.2

(That which Surrounds or Encompasses)

“Now when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart,
and they gnashed at him with their teeth. But he, being full of

the Holy Spirit, looked up steadfastly into heaven, and saw the

glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God."

(Acts 6:2-3)

The Message Bible (MSG)

Listening to Stephen words as he address the council in becomes clear why the Apostles instructed the people to “Brothers and sisters, carefully choose seven well-respected men from among you. They must be well-respected and endowed by the Spirit with exceptional wisdom. (Acts 6:3). He council he was speaking to was no laughing matter when it came to the bible history not to mention they prided themselves on being authorities on every detail except when it came to Jesus Christ. For here is where they seemed to have memory laps complete with intense anger when reminded in the role they played in His Crucifixion. It wasn’t long before they could no longer bear his words.

What is so amazing is that while Stephen was speaking to them they could not take their eyes off of him no matter how badly they wanted to. “As all those who sat on the High Council looked at Stephen, they found they couldn’t take their eyes off him—his face was like the face of an angel!.” (Acts 6:15) I love the way the Holy Spirit anoints you for ministry just at the moment you need it. This reminds me of when the cloud of the Lord would descend upon the tabernacle and would remain until the next morning. God’s spirit does not dwell in tents made of cloth but in temples made of flesh and blood. “What, know ye not that your body is the Temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?” (1 Corinthians 6:19)

As intercessors there will be times when the Spirit of the Lord will descend upon you and take you into the spirit realm, at that moment you like Stephen will be transcended. Those who may be around you may not understand and like Stephen your countenance may change. It all reminds me of the scripture that say, “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.” (1 John 3:2) we are all striving to be like Jesus and one day we shall be.

Stephen was at a critical point in his role as deacon, one which was not included in his original job description. Stephen was getting ready to incite a riot with his final words to the council…"You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit! As your fathers did, so you do. Which of the prophets didn't your fathers persecute? They killed those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One, of whom you have now become betrayers and murderers. You received the law as it was ordained by angels, and didn't keep it! Now when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with their teeth.” The truth of the matter is, Stephen was not the first to site this phrase, for in "I have seen these people," the LORD said to Moses, "and they are a stiff-necked people. (Exodus 32:9) Also in psalm—“Then they would not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not loyal and whose spirit was not faithful to Gods.” (Psalms 78:8)

I believe at this point Stephen knowing full well who he was dealing with was in fact prophesying his own death. As your fathers did, so you do. Which of the prophets didn't your fathers persecute? They killed those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One, of whom you have now become betrayers and murderers.” Let us keep in mind that nothing that Stephen was saying was intended just to tell them how bad they were, but rather to convict them to repentance. With every word Stephen was interceding for their salvation. When we pray and intercede for the lost we too will at time recount the events of the bible in comparison; however only to in the same breath to ask God to turn them and heal them…deliver them from their sin.

We are hoping that something said will convict them to repentance that they may be saved…even if it is just one sinner that turns from his sin it is still good. Many believe that Stephen’s death was senseless and unnecessary however, because of what Stephen had said that day God marked one from among the crowd to preach Christ to the gentiles. Stephen was recounting something Jesus had said during His trial, “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven." (Mark 14:62)

“But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, looked up steadfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God and said, "Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!" But they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and rushed at him with one accord. They threw him out of the city, and stoned him”. Stephan’s words so cut them to the heart that they lashed out at him and killed him just as he had said they would. Yet at the same time he prayed for them that God would not hold them accountable for his death…just as Jesus had done on the cross. Why? Because He had told his disciples, “whoever sins you remit (forgive) I will remit (forgive); if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven."(John 20:23)

As we intercede for the lost we are in fact remitting their sins and the Father will remit them as well. And because of Stephen’s intercession there was there among the crowd a young man…“The witnesses placed their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul. They stoned Stephen as he called out, saying, "Lord Jesus, receive my Spirit!" He kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, "Lord, don't hold this sin against them!" When he had said this, he fell asleep.” (Acts 7:55-60)

Not long after the death of Stephen the young man named Saul met the Lord Jesus on the road to Damascus and was converted, this was a direct answer to Stephen’s intercession on that day. Just because you do not get the chance to see your prayers answered and fulfilled it doesn’t me that God did not answer; many of our prayers are prophetic in nature and are for telling a future event and deliverance. So don’t stop praying and interceding for the souls of men.

My Prayer: Father God, as we lift our voices in intercession for the souls of men and women everywhere, Father deliver and set them free by the blood of Jesus. Father, restore the souls of men everywhere and raise them up a might army in this earth. Father, even though we may encounter those who do not understand and may even become angry because of the words we speak by Your Spirit. Thank You for giving us the words, as am example of how we are to intercede. Guide us in Your perfect way and complete this day the work You have began in each of us in Jesus Christ’ precious name we pray, Amen!!!

Stephen – Crowned

“It is not appropriate for us to forsake the word of God

and serve tables… Therefore select from among you, brothers,

seven men of good report, full of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom,

whom we may appoint over this business."

(Acts 6:2-3)

In this lesson we will cover the Great Intercessors of the Bible – Stephen”. The church was growing so rapidly that there was no way for the disciples to handle everything that needed to be done among the believers. "During this time, as the disciples were increasing in numbers by leaps and bounds,"(Acts 6:1) Just as it is today people started talking about the church how they were neglecting the widows in the church. "Hard feelings developed among the Greek-speaking believers—“Hellenists”—toward the Hebrew-speaking believers because their widows were being discriminated against in the daily food lines."(Acts 6:2) Isn’t it interesting that people will leap over one thousand things that you’re doing well just to find one wrong thing? Now some scholar’s feel that this was only the Apostles thinking themselves as to important for menial task; however I don’t believe this was the case. Keep in mind that the church was growing by leaps and bounds by now, it was no doubt well over 12– 15 thousand members if not more. There is no way humanly possible for the Apostles to be planting new churches, preaching several times a week or even a day; staying in prayer and fasting as well as hand out groceries to the hungry, poor and needy daily. It was time to start do assigning some of the members these tasks to do, this made them partakers and labors right along with the Apostles.

“So the Twelve called a meeting of the disciples; they said, “It wouldn’t be right for us to abandon our responsibilities for preaching and teaching the Word of God to help with the care of the poor. So, friends, choose seven men from among you whom everyone trusts, men full of the Holy Spirit and good sense, and we’ll assign them this task. Meanwhile, we’ll stick to our assigned tasks of prayer and speaking God’s Word.”The congregation thought this was a great idea. They went ahead and chose—

· Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit,

· Philip

· Procorus

· Nicanor

· Timon

· Parmenas

· Nicolas, a convert from Antioch.

Then they presented them to the apostles. Praying, the apostles laid on hands and commissioned them for their task. The Word of God prospered. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased dramatically. Not least, a great many priests submitted themselves to the faith.” (Acts 6:2-7)

By doing this the Apostles would have more time for prayer and study of the word, which they need in order to declare the Lord. This would also give the Holy Spirit the chance to work through other member and allow others to know that they too could lay hands on the sick, cast out demons and proclaim the name of Jesus. Because they were given this opportunity, two of the deacons Stephen and Phillip were very influential in proclaiming the gospel and witnessing. “Stephen, who was brimming with God’s grace and energy; was doing wonderful things among the people; there were unmistakable signs that God was among them. But then some men from the meeting place whose membership was made up of freed slaves, Cyrenians, Alexandrians, and some others from Cilicia and Asia, went up against him trying to argue him down. But they were no match for his wisdom and spirit when he spoke.” (Acts 6:8-10)

One of the qualification of Stephen being chosen as one of the seven was that he was full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, “…whom everyone trusts, men full of the Holy Spirit and good sense,” (Acts 6:4) Once confronted by the Cyrenians, Alexandrians, and the others from Cilicia and Asia Stephen stood his ground in Christ authority and spoke boldly. There are those who believe that if Stephen had not engaged these men, he would never have been taken into court and tried thus he wouldn’t have been stoned to death. This may be true however; it may also be true that this was exactly what Stephen had been chosen to do by the Lord. Yes it would have been safer to not say anything and just walk away…but what about Saul of Tarsus, who was standing in the crowd? In fact he was holding the coats of those who were stoning Steven.

“So in secret they bribed men to lie: “We heard him cursing Moses and God.” That stirred up the people, the religious leaders, and religion scholars. They grabbed Stephen and took him before the High Council. They put forward their bribed witnesses to testify: “This man talks nonstop against this Holy Place and God’s Law. We even heard him say that Jesus of Nazareth would tear this place down and throw out all the customs Moses gave us.” As all those who sat on the High Council looked at Stephen, they found they couldn’t take their eyes off him—his face was like the face of an angel!”(Acts 6:11-15)

In verse 15 of this passage the words always grips me with such awe, “As all those who sat on the High Council looked at Stephen, they found they couldn’t take their eyes off him—his face was like the face of an angel!”(Acts 6:11-15) This is why I believe that Stephen was anointed for this very day and time… he was literally transformed right before their eyes summarily like Jesus was on the mount of transfiguration. When we enter into intercession I believe the same thing happens to us as we enter in and go behind the veil of God’s glory.

Benny Hinn said in his teaching series “Practicing the Presence” that once we have entered into the Holy of Holies our spirit from that point knows how to return. Once we press passed the flesh and distraction of the outer courts, pass the Holy Place into the Holy of Holies your spirit will always long to return. My Prayer: Heavenly Father, you have given each of us a task to fulfill and at the appointed time we shall do it. Just as Stephen had no idea what lay ahead of him, all he knew was that he was on fire for Christ. He was endowed with power and boldness to speak the word in truth and righteousness before the religious leaders and scholars. Father thank you for giving us the same boldness so that we can speak Your word in boldness no matter who is listening. Perhaps there will be a Saul in the audience who will later become converted and declare Your name among the gentile nations. Thank You for giving us the wisdom and clarity of knowledge which we’ll need to complete the task You have assigned to us, in Jesus’ precious name we pray, Amen!

Gamaliel – Intercedes for Disciples

(God is my reward/recompense) Pt3

" But then again, if God is in this, you won’t be able to stop it—

unless, of course, you’re ready to fight against God!."

(Acts 5:13)

The Voice (VOICE)

Many churches today boast of having a prison ministry however, the earlier church has one up on them because they had the first ever prison ministry in the book of Acts. Peter and the disciples were imprisoned for preaching in the town square. “The church’s renown was so great that when Peter walked down the street, people would carry out their sick relatives hoping his shadow would fall on some of them as he passed. Even people from towns surrounding Jerusalem would come, bringing others who were sick or tormented by unclean spirits, all of whom were cured.”(Acts 515-18)

The only trouble with being the one who knows everything about religious law is that one can easily set themselves up as being the only one who right from wrong concerning the Law. All this power and authority tends to go to the heads of some and they refuse to relinquish this authority to anyone. “Of course, this popularity elicited a response: the high priest and his affiliates in the Sadducean party were jealous,so they arrested the apostles and put them in the public prison.”

However it wasn’t for very long; because, God wanted this message along with His servants out; so He sent an angel to free them. “Go to the temple, and stand up to tell the people the whole message about this way of life from Jesus. At dawn they did as they were told; they returned to their teaching in the temple.” By whatever means necessary the Lord will make a way for the gospel to be heard!

Once they had been give their freedom and new instruction, to go stand in the Temple and tell everyone the gospel message, the apostles straight to the Temple. So before the Jewish council was even awake the Apostles were up and preaching the Gospel again in the temple courtyard. “At dawn they did as they were told; they returned to their teaching in the temple. Meanwhile the council of Jewish elders was gathering—convened by the high priest and his colleagues. They sent the temple police to the prison to have the Lord’s emissariesbrought for further examination; but of course, the temple police soon realized they weren’t there.

They returned and reported, the prison was secure and locked, and the guards were standing in front of the doors; but when we unlocked the doors, the cell was empty. The captain of the temple police and the senior priests were completely mystified when they heard this. They had no idea what had happened.Just then, someone arrived with this news: You know those men you put in prison last night? Well, they’re free. At this moment, they’re at it again, teaching our people in the temple! (Acts 5:21-25) Notice what the police reported back to the High priest, “…they are at it again, teaching “our” people in the temple!” now all of a sudden the people belong to them and not the Lord.

This made the council furious so they sent the guards to go and bring the Apostles to them again; which they did with care as not to upset the crowd because they believed their witness. “Once again the men stood before the council. The high priest began the questioning. Didn’t we give you strict orders to stop teaching in this name? But here you are, spreading your teaching throughout Jerusalem. And you are determined to blame us for this man’s death.” (Acts 5:27-28) Still not willing to accept the blame for crucifying Christ the high priest again questioned the Apostles as to why they were directly disobeying their orders to stop preaching about Christ?

There may come a time when you are in a similar position and must decide whether or not to obey man’s orders or God’s I trust that you like the Apostles will chose to obey God. “If we have to choose between obedience to God and obedience to any human authority, then we must obey God. The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from death. You killed Jesus by hanging Him on a tree but God has lifted Him high, to God’s own right hand, as the Prince, as the Liberator. God intends to bring Israel to a radical rethinking of our lives and to a complete forgiveness of our sins. We are witnesses to these things. There is another witness, too—the Holy Spirit—whom God has given to all who choose to obey Him. (Acts 5:29-32)

The council would have killed them then and there is not for God having a “ram in the bush” so to speak. I always love reading this passage of scripture because it clearly shows that God will raise up a witness for us, even if it must come from what appears to be the enemies camp. Gamaliel a Pharisee was a well known leader and authority among the Sanhedrin, he also was a Dr. of Jewish Law, according to. He was also the mentor or teacher of Saul of Tarsus (Acts 22:3); who later became known as Apostle Paul after his Damascus Road experience (Acts 9:1-9)

“…but Gamaliel, a Pharisee in the council respected as a teacher of the Hebrew Scriptures, stood up and ordered the men to be sent out so the council could confer privately. Fellow Jews, you need to act with great care in your treatment of these fellows. Remember when a man named Theudas rose to notoriety? He claimed to be somebody important, and he attracted about 400 followers. But when he was killed, his entire movement disintegrated and nothing came of it. After him came Judas, that Galilean fellow, at the time of the census. He also attracted a following; but when he died, his entire movement fell apart. So here’s my advice: in this case, just let these men go. Ignore them. If this is just another movement arising from human enthusiasm, it will die out soon enough. But then again, if God is in this, you won’t be able to stop it—unless, of course, you’re ready to fight against God!”

We may not know when or how God will deliver us when we stand up for the truth, but be assured He will. The Apostles were by experience gaining great faith and confidence in Gods hand of deliverance; which was a good thing because they were going to need that faith and trust in the days, months and years ahead.

My Prayer: Father God, we give You Glory and Praise for Your hand of protection being upon each of us as we stand in the gap for the lost and declare Your word to the lost and dying souls in this world. Thank for giving us boldness to stand no matter what the circumstance and say what thus said the Lord, even in the face of the proud and pompous religious people of this day. Thank You for raising up Gamaliel’s to speak in our behalf when the enemy threatens our lives for Christ sake. Thank You for giving us boldness, along with angelic protection and divine guidance as we complete the tasks You have given each of us in Jesus’ precious name we pray, Amen!!!

#102 “Great Intercessors of the Bible”

Apostles and Church— Pt2

(Delegate, an Ambassador of the Gospel)

“As they spoke to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple

and the Sadducees came to them, being upset because they taught

the people and proclaimed in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.
They laid hands on them, and put them in custody until the next day,

for it was now evening."

(Acts 4:1-3)

Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

This lesson opens with Peter and John being arrested for proclaiming in the name of Jesus and His resurrection for the dead. ““As they spoke to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came to them, being upset because they taught the people and proclaimed in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. They laid hands on them, and put them in custody until the next day, for it was now evening." (Acts 4:1-3) The Sadducees could not allow this sort of teaching because after all this was why they had Jesus Crucified because of His popularity with the crowds. Now the last thing they needed was someone teaching the people that He was raised from the dead. They had to do something so they had Peter and John arrested to silence them until they could talk with them.

The excuse that used was that they had healed the lame man at the temple gate. “Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “You rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, if we are examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, in him does this man stand here before you whole.” (Acts 4:8-10) However, this was just a perfect opportunity to preach Christ to them, they were a captive audience.

The Sanhedrin officials were astounded by the boldness and elegance of speech of Peter and John so much so they did not know what to do with them. “But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, saying, "What shall we do to these men? Because indeed a notable miracle has been done through them; as it could plainly be seen by all who dwell in Jerusalem, and we can't deny it. But so that this spreads no further among the people, let's threaten them, that from now on they don't speak to anyone in this name." They called them, and charged them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. (Acts 4:15-18) There is no denying the hand of God was upon Peter and John and therefore the Sanhedrin could not deny the miracle which had been wroth by God through their hands.

This was just the beginning of the opposition the Apostles and Church would have to face, but face it they would with the same boldness and confidence as they did this day. “But Peter and John answered them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, judge for yourselves, for we can't help telling the things which we saw and heard." When they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people; for everyone glorified God for that which was done. For the man on whom this miracle of healing was performed was more than forty years old.” (Acts 4:19-22) There will come a time in each of our lives when we too will have to decide on who’s side we’ll stand, “if God be God then choice Him, but if man is your God then choice man, but what a poor choice for a God is man.

“Being let go, they came to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them. When they heard it, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, "O Lord, you are God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all that is in them; who by the mouth of your servant, David, said, 'Why do the nations rage, And the peoples plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth take a stand, and the rulers take council together, Against the Lord, and against his Christ {Christ (Greek) and Messiah (Hebrew) both mean Anointed One.}.' (Ps 2:1, 2)

For truly, in this city against your holy servant, Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together to do whatever your hand and your council foreordained to happen. Now, Lord, look at their threats, and grant to your servants to speak your word with all boldness, while you stretch out your hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of your holy Servant Jesus." When they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were gathered together. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness. (Acts 4: 23-31)

I love the Apostles response to the Sanhedrin court, but I love the way they approached the Father afterward more. “Now, Lord, look at their threats, and grant to your servants to speak your word with all boldness, while you stretch out your hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of your holy Servant Jesus." They didn’t pray, “Oh Lord what are we going to do? How are we going to proclaim Jesus’ name now”? Instead they ask God to do even more that He had already done. Wow how amazing is that, instead of being afraid they became even bolder!!! We cannot allow distraction and attacks from the enemy stop us from doing what we are called to do. Yes it can get hard at times but what in life doesn’t? All of us have battles and may even grow weary in the fight, but just don’t give up, keep pressing forward, even is it’s only a few feet per day…that’s still progress!

My Prayer: Father God, it’s always good to recount the acts of the Apostles and the early church, mainly because it reminds us that we are not the only ones going through opposition and if you brought them out you will surly do the same for us. Thank You for giving such a great cloud of witnesses to remind us of the way we should go, Jesus’ precious name we pray, Amen!!!

Apostles and The Church — Pt.1

(delegate, an ambassador of the Gospel)

“Then the high priest took action. He and all his colleagues,

those who belonged to the party of the Sadducees, were filled

with jealousy. So they arrested the apostles and put them

in the city jail."

(Acts 5:17-18)

It was not easy for the religious leaders to let go of their control even after Christ’s death, they wanted to squash anything and anyone. By now the news of the out pouring of the Holy Spirit had been spread abroad and the religious leaders were not taking it light. “ But the high priest rose up, and all those who were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with jealousy and laid hands on the apostles, and put them in public custody” (Acts 5:17-18) The church however, had began to grow by leaps and bounds so to speak, it was just the first day of the Holy Spirit being released, “Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized, everyone of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all who are far off, even as many as the Lord our God will call to himself." With many other words he testified, and exhorted them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation!" Then those who gladly received his word were baptized. There were added that day about three thousand souls.”(Acts 2:38-41) Just in that one day there were three thousand souls added to the church, I can think of a whole lot of churches that couldn’t do that in one year.

What made this possible? It was the signs and wonders, which were taking place at the time; in fact this is what signs, wonders and miracles are for, to draw unbelievers to the Lord. “Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under the sky. When this sound as heard, the multitude came together, and were bewildered, because everyone heard them speaking in his own language. They were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another," Behold, aren't all these who speak Galileans? How do we hear, everyone in our own native language? Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and people from Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia, Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, the parts of Libya around Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians: we hear them speaking in our languages the mighty works of God!" They were all amazed, and were perplexed, saying one to another, "What does this mean?" Others, mocking, said, "They are filled with new wine." (Acts 2:5-13)

So now this new baby church which had just been born had grown from hundred and twenty in the upper room to three thousand new believers. Not this number was added to the number of believer’s who had already been following Jesus that number was well over thousands.

“They continued steadfastly in

· the apostles' teaching and

· fellowship,

· in the breaking of bread, and

· prayer

Fear came on every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. All who believed were together, and had all things in common.” (Acts 2:42-44) It would seem that the prayer of Jesus that, “they would be one even as He and the Father were one..” was being answered. “They sold their possessions and goods, and distributed them to all, according as anyone had need. Day by day, continuing steadfastly with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread at home, they took their food with gladness and singleness of heart, praising God, and having favor with all the people. The Lord added to the assembly day by day those who were being saved.” Although the church was still young it already had very powerful enemies and they would not relent until they had destroyed every one of the followers of Christ. This is one of the strongest motivators of the churches intercession.

God was still establishing the authority of the apostles with signs, miracles and wonders, just as He had done with Moses and the children of Israel. He showed might signs by the hand of Moses to prove that he was in fact His servant; so too were the disciples. “Peter and John were going up into the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour 3:00 PM. A certain man who was lame from his mother's womb was being carried, whom they laid daily at the door of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask gifts for the needy of those who entered into the temple. Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive gifts for the needy.

Peter, fastening his eyes on him, with John, said, "Look at us." He listened to them, expecting to receive something from them. But Peter said, "Silver and gold have I none but what I have, that I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk!" He took him by the right hand, and raised him up. Immediately his feet and his ankle bones received strength. Leaping up, he stood, and began to walk. He entered with them into the temple, walking, leaping, and praising God. All the people saw him walking and praising God, they recognized him that it was he who used to sit begging for gifts for the needy at the Beautiful Gate of the temple. They were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. As the lame man who was healed held on to Peter and John,” (Acts 3:1-11)

Because of the popularity of the gospel word spread quickly and the reports came to the religious leaders they began to fear that the people would all turn to this Jesus and forsake the Law. Join us tomorrow as we continue this lesson on the intercession of the Apostles and the church.

My Prayer: Our Father God, we come before You giving you Glory and Honor and thanksgiving for Your wondrous works and unfailing love towards us Your children. You are our heavenly Father and we give You praise for Jesus Your Son, and for life everlasting through His shed blood. As we began our day with this the Lord’s Prayer we thank You Father for ordering our day according to heavens design and will. Thank You for giving us the words, provision and guidance we will need to complete this day in Jesus’ precious name we pray, Amen!!!

The Disciples- (Releasing the Holy Spirit)

“All these with one accord continued steadfastly

in prayer and supplication, along with the women,

and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers."

(Acts 7:55)

Now that we have concluded the study of, “Jesus Christ our Greatest Bible Intercessor” and “The Holy Spirit”. Now let’s transition into the Acts of the Apostles and that of the early church. Now that the Lord has gone back to the Father, the disciples must continue the work He began here on earth. They were instructed by the Lord, “Being assembled together with them, He charged them, "Don't depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which you heard from me. For John indeed baptized in water, but you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days from now." (Acts 1:4-5)

Have you ever heard the Lord tell you to “GO”, while at the same time He’s telling you to “WAIT”? This can be a very frustrating and somewhat confusing time; because you’re not sure is it’s the Lord or your flesh telling you to “wait”! Although it may seem conflicting your trust in the Lord will bring you an assurance that it’s okay. Here we have Jesus giving the Great Commission to His disciples… “GO”, then He tells them but “WAIT”! Why? “. . tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high —(Luke 24:49) He had promised them that the Father would send another comforter to be with them, but with Him would come power from on high to enable them to complete the work here on earth. In the wait we are endured with power, wisdom, guidance and provisions and gifting to complete that for which we have been called.

No doubt the greatest challenge was the waiting, we hate to wait! Waiting in lines, on line not enough time just to standing around when we’ve got to make a dime, we just hate waiting anywhere or anytime! But slow your row because until Jesus says so it is best that you not “GO”, but "WAIT", we must keep in mind that the timing of the Lord is perfect. David said, “I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry…”(Psalms 40:1) Waiting is one of the true signs of a child of God’s faith and trust in Him, when they can wait patiently. You do understand that even the Lord Jesus had to wait, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner." (John 5:19) there is a reward for patiently waiting, "Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!" (Ps 27:14)

Here are the disciples following the instruction of Jesus and they are all assembled in one place in one accord, in with one mind and one heart…a waiting for the promise. Not just for them alone but for every believer for years to come. The Holy Spirit was something none of the disciples knew anything about because, "Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified." (John 7:39) They were just taking Jesus at His word that this was a gift from the Father. So as they prayed, “All these with one accord continued steadfastly in prayer and supplication, along with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.” (Acts 1:14)

During this time they felt that they need to replace, “Judas, who was guide to those who took Jesus.”(Acts 1:16) Often times we feel lead to do things that often seems right, but it is not what the Lord would have us do. No doubt the disciples felt they needed to replace Judas; however, Matthias was not the Lords choice to replacing Judas. Later the Lord makes His choice for His twelfth disciple and it was Paul to be the twelfth disciple.

While in the upper room praying and interceding for the promise God poured out the Holy Spirit at His appointed time, “Now when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all with one accord in one place. Suddenly there came from the sky a sound like the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all, the house where they were sitting. Tongues like fire appeared and were distributed to them, and one sat on each of them. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other languages, as the Spirit gave them the ability to speak.” (Acts 2:1-4) This was the releasing of the power of God, which Jesus had spoken of, “Behold I give you Power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Luke 10:19)

Today this same power abides with us, but for the asking and claiming. We have been given this power and authority to enable us to fight a good fight and to be victorious over the powers of darkness. I’m often surprised to see many Christians response to the Holy Spirit, based on their denominational beliefs and teachings. Some believe that you can receive the Holy Spirit; while others believe He can’t be received, because He’s just a comforter. Sad to say many times we short change ourselves because of our lack of understanding of who He (the Holy Spirit) truly is. “They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other languages, as the Spirit gave them the ability to speak.” (Acts 2:4) If they received the Holy Spirit, then we too must receive Him. This was just the beginning of the intercession that the disciples and the church would do, for there was much more to come in the days ahead. So too is there much more intercession for us as intercessors to do in the days ahead…so if you have not done so already I admonish you to, “…Receive ye the Holy Spirit.” (John 20:22b)

My Prayer: Heavenly Father, You alone is gracious and true, thank You for sending the Holy Spirit to lead us and guide us into all truth. Thank You for filling Your children with Your Spirit, with power and might. We worship You Lord God and give You praise and honor and glory for all that You are doing in us and through us. We ask You Father complete the work, which You have began in us fulfill the plans and purposes that You have ordained for each of us Father grant us boldness to speak Your word without fear or reservations, that souls might be saved and come to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Thank You for Your many blessings in Jesus’ precious name we pray, Amen!!!

#99 “Great Intercessors of the Bible”

Holy Spirit – (Comforter, Counselor, Advocate)

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send

in my name, He will teach you all things and bring

to your remembrance all that I have said to you."

(John 14:26)

In this lesson we will discuss another amazing “Great Intercessor of the Bible” the “Holy Spirit,” The Holy Spirit is also known as the “Holy Ghost.” Although this name may be a little frightening, there is no need to be afraid, as the Holy Spirit is the third person in the ‘Trinity or Godhead’ (God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit), "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:1) These were the instruction of Jesus to His disciples before He departed; admonishing them not to be afraid; because, the Father was going to send them someone that would help them, after the Lord’s departure. The Lord knew that His disciples would be enduring great persecution after He left, therefore they would need someone that could keep them in remembrance of the things He had spoken to them.

The Holy Spirit’s role took on many forms when it came to us the body of Christ; being that He was to “…bring back to our remembrance all that I (Jesus) has said,” (John 14:26) or all that we have read in the word. This comes in very handy when we are interceding because the Holy Spirit will bring to our remembrance the exact word needed for the situation at that very moment. So what exactly is the role of the Holy Spirit?

Comforter — “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever…” (John 14:16) The Lord knew that the hearts of the disciples would be heavy once He departed; because they had gotten use to His presence being with them…now He was gone. Therefore the Lord Jesus asked the father to send someone who could comfort their hearts, who could abide with them; someone, who would never leave them nor forsake them. So the Father sent His Holy Spirit! “But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment....” (John 15:26)
Counselor — Here in John 15:26 John is referring to the Holy Spirit using the Greek word “parakletos” which is mostly translated to “Comforter”; however it would be best translated as “Counselor/Advocate,” both of these words are more commonly used as legal terms. So a counselor is “one who gives advice to another,” when we don’t know what to do the Holy spirit gives us direction or council.
Advocate — is one who stands in defense of another or “One that pleads in another's behalf; an intercessor.” What I love about the Holy Spirit is that like the Father and the Son they are all three “one’ or ‘unified’ Jesus said what you see the Father do I do, well the same is true for the Holy Spirit, what you see the Father and the Son do He does. “If anyone does sin, we have an advocate (parakletos) with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous” (1John 2:1)
Helper — “…you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit … But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you.” (Acts 1:5-8). In our flesh (our human nature) there are forces that are much stronger than us. Paul says: “Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh … those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” (Galatians 5: 16-25). The Holy Spirit will strengthen us, so that every time we are tempted, we do not yield to the lusts of the flesh.
Teacher — “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth … He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.” John 16:12-14.
Intercessor — The Holy Spirit prays for us when we don't know how to pray, “Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groaning too deep for words.” (Romans 8:26) When we’re at a loss for words, yet we are troubled within our spirits this is when the Holy Spirit steps in and intervenes in prayer for us. He prays through us.
Draws Men to Christ — “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day. (John 6:44) Jesus told His disciples that unless the Spirit of the Father draws men’s hearts to Christ they would not come to be saved. “And he said, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father.” (John 6:65)
Lives in our hearts — when we become born again, the Holy Spirit comes to live inside of us, “What? Know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which you have of God, and you are not your own? For you are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.”

The Holy Spirit is here living with us, within us helping us to live righteously, without Him we would not be able to stand in these evil days. This is why the Lord prayed to the father to send Him so that we would not be left alone in this world. Do you remember that Jesus told His disciples “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

My Prayer: Our Father God, we come before You giving you Glory and Honor and thanksgiving for Your wondrous works and unfailing love towards us Your children. As we reflect on this powerful lesson about the Holy Spirit, we understand that He lives within us helping us to live according to Your word. It is He who helps to conform us by Your word as we read it daily. It is the Holy Spirit which leads and guides us into all truths, Thanks You for sending us another helper, comfortor, teacher and revealer of truth and revelation of Your word. Thank You for giving us the words and guidance to complete this the work which You have given us to do in Jesus’ precious name we pray, Amen!!!

#98 “Great Intercessors of the Bible”

Jesus Christ – Anointed Savior) Pt6

“And do not lead us into temptation,

but deliver us from the evil one.

For Yours is the Kingdom and the

power and the glory forever,

Amen!"

By now you’re probably asking the question, “Do I have to pray only this prayer every day?” Well the answer is ‘Although it would not hurt to pray it every day, the answer is ‘No’. Jesus never told His disciples to only pray this prayer, what He did say is, “when you do pray; pray use this prayer as your pattern or guide. At first you may want to follow the prayer as it is written until you gain some confidence or a clearer understanding of what each category entails, get comfortable with how each area relates to one of the Names of God and then you can began to expand you prayer base. For instance, “Give us this day our daily bread…” relates to God being Jehovah-Jireh (our provider) can you see what I mean?

Nearly every time Jesus taught He followed a specific pattern, He would first give a topic and then He would provide instruction on how to apply it. “Therefore after this manner pray” or when you pray “pray along these lines” which in the Greek is “Houtos oun.” Jesus never intended for this to become some ritualistic practice like chanting redundant verses over and over again like mindless drone robots. But in the same sense He did however want it to become, such a part of you that without given it a second thought; you could transition into this pattern or prayer with great ease.

Now shall we pick up where we left off in our last lesson, also this will be the conclusion of this series on “Jesus the Greatest Intercessor of the Bible":

[] And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one — now we know and understand that God does not tempt His children, “Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.” (James 1:13)

Therefore we know this petition is not that God will not lead us into temptation but that He will keep the enemy (Satan) from tempting or enticing us into commit sin. We must always keep in mind that it is our own fleshly desire the Satan uses against us. These temptations can be from within us as a result of something we have not been willing to let go of; therefore it still has a stronghold in our flesh. “...each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.” (James 1:14-15) This is why Jesus prayed for us before He went back to the Father, “I’m not asking that you take them out of the world But that you guard them from the Evil One. I’m praying not only for them but also for those who will believe in me Because of them and their witness about me.” This should be our prayer as well that the Lord will deliver His children around the worlds from the Evil One attacks against them.

[] For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever — this verse of the Lord’s Prayer it very weighty, in other words it carries much Authority! Why? Because when we declare that, “Yours is The Kingdom, The Power and The Glory…” and we are your children then we have every right and privilege to stand on every one of God’s Words and to claim as our own each verse of promise, provision and protection that they posses. We have a right to claim everything this prayer entails. It says that I set myself in agreement with my Fathers Kingdom and every one of its decrees. “Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12:32)

Everything Jesus has He has given it to us, “And the glory which you gave Me, I have given them that they may be one just as We are one.” (John l7:22) we have no cause to be down or depressed because every thing we need has been provided to be victorious in this life. “Arise from the depression and prostration in which circumstances have kept you; rise to a new life. Shine, be radiant with the glory of the Lord; for your light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. (Isaiah 60:l-2, The Amplified Version)

[] Amen!— concluding this prayer with the word “Amen!” is like the King placing His Royal Signet Ring’s seal on it. It seals our prayer through the Authority and Power of Jesus Christ; because, in the book of Revelation 3: 14 Jesus is called the “Amen of God” – “These things says the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God.” It is through Christ that all of God’s exceeding and precious promises are brought to fulfillment. I sure we have grown accustom to concluding our prayers in this manner however, it has far more authority than just saying I’m done praying! The word ‘Amen’ means “Even so, as I have prayed it, even so shall it be done,” this is not a conclusion to your prayer it a faith declaration and a notice of expectation…I expect to see it manifested!!!

My Prayer: Our Father God, we come before You giving you Glory and Honor and thanksgiving for Your wondrous works and unfailing love towards us Your children. As we reflect on this powerful prayer we understand that within these verses we have to summation of Your promise to us. Thank You for being the all sufficient one the Alfa and Omega the Beginning and the Ending of our lives and destiny. You are our heavenly Father and we give You praise for Jesus Your Son, and for life everlasting through His shed blood. As we began our day with this the Lord’s Prayer we thank You Father for ordering our day according to heavens design and will. Thank You for giving us the words, provision and guidance we will need to complete this day in Jesus’ precious name we pray, Amen!

#97 “Great Intercessors of the Bible”

Jesus Christ – Anointed Savior) Pt4

“Give us this day the bread we need,

Forgive us what we owe to you,

as we have also forgiven those

who owe anything to us."

(Matthew 6:11-12)

Many may not be aware that’s there are two account of the “Lord’s Prayer” or “Model Prayer” as some like to call it. The first account was during Jesus’, “Sermon on the Mount” teaching found in Matthew 6; 9-13. The second account, come from the perspective of Luke the physician in Luke 11:2-4; nevertheless they are still regarded as the same prayer even though the events leading up to them are totally different. Interesting enough the second account of the “Lord’s Prayer”, was given approximately 2 ½ years after the one following the “Sermon on the Mount”. “Another time Jesus was praying, and when He finished, one of His disciples approached Him. Master, would You teach us Your way of prayer? John taught his disciples his way of prayer, and we’re hoping You’ll do the same.” (Luke 11:1-2)

Let us pick up where we left off in our last lesson…

Give us this day our daily bread — whenever I read this verse of the prayer, it always reminds me of when the children of Israel were in the wilderness; how they complained of not having enough to eat. they had nothing to make bread with, so the Lord sent manna for heaven, which appeared each morning like the dew on the ground. However it wasn’t long before even this did not satisfy them, “The Israelites had a strong craving for different food, and the Israelites started complaining again. Who will give us meat to eat? Remember in Egypt when we could eat whatever amount of fish we wanted, or even the abundant cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic. But this, this can hardly be called food at all! Our appetites have dried up. All we ever have to look at is manna, manna, manna.” (Numbers 11:1-6)

The people’s ingratitude not only frustrated Moses but it angered The Lord God, He was furious about their ungratefulness, lack of faith in His ability to provide for them. So when we pray, “Give us this day our daily bread…” we should be grateful for whatever the Lord provides. Let us not become like the children of Israel and complain to the Lord about what we have. Also know that the Lord is not just providing us with natural bread but He also provides us with “Manna from Heaven” as we read His word daily. “It is written, “Man does not live by bread alone. Rather, he lives on every word that comes from the mouth of the.” (Matthew 4:4) because we are comprised of a ‘spirit, soul and body’ when we think in teams of eating we must understand that our bodies need the proper nutrients in order to function properly, which in turn feeds our soul (intellect), but if we neglect feeding our spirit it too will not function properly. This daily spiritual provision is not just for us alone, for when we pray give us this day our daily bread, we are in fact asking the Lord God to provide sustenance for the whole earth, as we are feed we in turn feed others with what we have eaten from the word of God.

[] And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors — “If we say we that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (I John 1:8-9) Although God is loving and forgiving He cannot forgive of sins we will not own up to and confess, it then He can forgive us of our sin(s) and cleans us from all unrighteousness. One would ask, ‘does this mean that I have to name each and every one of my sins in order to be forgiven by God?’ There’s an interesting thing about true confession:

- You must be truly broken in spirit in order for true confession occurs. — “ The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit.”(Psalms 34:18)
- You must be willing to confess your sin(s) and return to them no more. — But the one who was healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, a multitude being in that place. Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.”
- You must believe tha God has truly forgiven you of your sins and forgive yourself — The book of Acts tell us, “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord” (Acts 3:19) Father God will not only forgive you of the sins you confess but once true repentance has accrued, your brokenness becomes the key to unlocking the chains to all your sins. God doesn’t only forgive you of that sin you’re confessing or repenting of; He forgives you completely and cleanses you from all your unrighteousness.

Now just as He has forgiven you He expects you to forgive others just as He has forgiven you of your offenses. Too often we take the forgiveness of God for granted and when it comes time to forgive others we are cold and harsh towards them. This attitude comes from not remembering that all unrighteousness is sin in the eyes of God; therefore, nothing that anyone can do to you is worse than the sins you’ve committed and asked God to forgive you for. There are no big sins and little sin in God’s eyes… sin is sin! “If you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.” (Mark 11:25)

When someone hurts you or offends you, learn to forgive them quickly, blow it off…let it go, at that very moment that you feel it trying to plant a root of bitterness in your heart against that person. “LET IT GO!!!” it’s not worth letting that root grow inside of your heart. It is often much harder to up root that bitterness than it is for it to be planted so don’t let it take root. According to Matthew 18:7 “Judgment to the world for giving these God-believing children a hard time! Hard times are inevitable, but you don’t have to make it worse—therefore it will be doomsday to you if you do…” you must decide now what you’re going to do with offenses after they’ve arrive. It’s Your Call!

My Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your daily provisions spiritual and natural. Forgive us when we have not shown our gratefulness for all that your have provided. We will give You thanks daily for all You give us spiritually, naturally and financially. Thank You for reminding us daily to forgive those who have offended or hurt us in some way. We will not carry offences in our hearts allowing them to become roots of bitterness. We will release them quickly and give you praise for being free for offense. Thank You Father for Your forgiving us and cleansing us form all unrighteousness. We give You praise and glory in Jesus’ precious name we pray, Amen!!!

Jesus Christ – Anointed Savior) Pt3

“Our Father Who is in heaven,

Hallowed (kept holy) be Your name."

Other than the work of intercession, which is being done on the behalf of the body of Christ, by Christ seated at the right hand of the Father; I believe there is no greater prayer of intercession being prayed that that of “The Lord’s Prayer.” Now I know that there are some powerful prayers being prayed on behalf of mankind here on earth; however, when the Lord directed the disciples to, “pray on this wish” He was not teaching them to pray a selfish self-centered prayers; although many of us have taken this prayer and personalized it during our daily devotion…it was not intended to be a personal prayer of petition.

I love hoe the ‘Message Bible” translates Matthew 6, v 6-8 - “And when you come before God, don’t turn that into a theatrical production either. All these people making a regular show out of their prayers, hoping for stardom! Do you think God sits in a box seat? Here’s what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won’t be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace. The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They’re full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don’t fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this:”

Reading this always make me stand in awe when I read it...here’s why. Although we are called to encounter a personal and intimate relation with the Lord it would seem that it’s meant to be private and yet not personal. It would seem God never intended for us to spent hours of time in His presence seeking personal gain or begging for bigger houses, fancier cars more riches; but instead spending those hours in His presence bring before the needs of others. “This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need...” your Father knows what you are in need of even before you ask; therefore we know we’re not begging Him to take care of our need but agreeing with His word that He has already done it. I find it interesting that this prayer is not personal but corporate —

                           1. Our Father…
                           2. Give Us…
                          3. Forgive Us…
                          4. Lead Us Not…

Although we should pray this prayer daily and believe that the Father God will do it, we pray it corporately. Let’s take a look that this pray in the context of corporate intercession:

Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name — When we think in terms of our Father being in heaven it is not an indication of distance but rather an acknowledgement that He’s seated high above our situation yet being our Father He is personally connected to us. Because His throne us in the heaven He rules and is the God of the whole earth, not just America. By praying “Our Father” we make Him all inclusive He’s all our Father, it reminds us continually that everyone of us are God’s children and should be treated as such. Knowing this of course gives us a calm assurance that we’re not coming to a stranger; but it instantly shifts us out of the natural (earthly/fleshly) realm into the supernatural (Spirit, Power and Authority) realm of the Kingdom and presence of God.
Hollowed is Your Name — We are not telling Gods Name to be Holy, we’re making a declaration to every realm and kingdom that our God is ‘HOLY’ who He Is, that He’s All Powerful and that He posses all Authority, this is our God First and Last the Beginning and End of all things, for He is the author and creator of all that is and that is to come. By declaring that His Name is Holy is also a declaration that we His people are also “Holy,’ yes I know that we don’t always feel that we are Holy; but beloved it’s not about our Feelings, it’s about our Faith in Our Heavenly Father. Remember that we must know the God we serve by Name:

- Jehovah-tsidkenu – God Our Righteousness (Jeremiah 23:6)

- Jehovah-m'kaddesh – God That Sanctifies (Exodus 3l:13)

- Jehovah-shalom – God Is Our Peace (Judges 6:24)

- Jehovah-shammah – God Is Always There (Ezekiel 48:35)

- Jehovah-rophe – God Our/My Healer (Exodus 15:26)

- Jehovah-jireh – God Our/My Provider (Genesis 22:14)

- Jehovah-nissi – God Our/My Banner (Exodus 17:15)

- Jehovah-rohi – God Our/My Shepherd (Psalms 23:1)

Your kingdom come, Your will be done. On earth as it is in heaven — Father God reestablish Your Kingdom here on earth as it once was, just like it is in Your Heavenly Kingdom, make it the same way here on earth were we now live. We not just me but we want Your divine will to be done here on earth, in every nation among every tongue. We’re not just praying this for our single homes, but for everyone here on earth. “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33) We’re declaring to God the Father, we except Your Will, whatever You permit or allow we say, have Your way Lord God.

So we seek the will of the Father in our lives in our homes in our world…Amen! We will conclude this lesson in our next lesson for now let us pray…

My Prayer: Our Heavenly Father, who rules and inhabits the heavens, let Your Kingdom come down and be displayed here in earth, so that we look just like a mirror image of Your Kingdom. Thank you for making us holy even as You are Holy. Teach us how to follow You Father, give us a steadfast heart, mind and spirit. We acknowledge and declare that “For Yours, is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory both now and Forever. In Jesus precious name, Amen!!!

#95 “Great Intercessors of the Bible”

(Jesus Christ – Anointed Savior) Pt2

“This is why the Father loves me: because I freely

lay down my life. And so I am free to take it up again.

No one takes it from me. I lay it down of my own free will."

One of the greatest qualities of an intercessor is the ability to look beyond their own lives, pain or suffering and see the needs of others. I’m reminded of the song verse which says, “He looked beyond my faults and saw my needs.” As intercessors being able to step out of self and perform a selfless act of interceding on behalf of someone else is paramount; undoubtedly, I know of no one who has ever achieved this but Jesus Christ. Pressing beyond His on pain, suffering, rejection and shame to intercede for others, it’s what we all should be striving for as intercessors. Oh it’s easy to do it when all is going well but what about, when all hell breaks loose in and around your life; how easy is it to maintain the selfless action of intercession?

The apostle Paul said it like this: “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in anything ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.” (Philippians 3:13-15) I must say this is one of life’s greatest challenges even for me; to continue to press in spite of the obstacles placed in your path. I would not dare lead you to believe that I myself have mastered this area of my prayer life, but yet I still press.

There are countless times, which are documented in the bible were Jesus stepped out of Himself and interceded for others, even though He Himself was facing the impending agony of death. Jesus know His life’s purpose was to become the ransom for man sins; yet He never focused on the shadow of the cross, which stretch out ahead of Him; but instead, He cast His focus on the multitude of sick, dying and hungry souls encompassing Him as He journeyed. Now let’s take a look at some of those people Jesus encountered:

1. A woman who had been hemorrhaging for twelve years —“Jesus insisted, “Someone touched me. I felt power discharging from me.” When the woman realized that she couldn’t remain hidden, she knelt trembling before him. In front of all the people, she blurted out her story—why she touched Him and how at that same moment she was healed. Jesus said, “Daughter, you took a risk trusting me, and now you’re healed and whole. Live well, live blessed!” (Luke 8:45-48) While on His way to the cross he took time to heal the woman with a bleeding condition that no medical doctor could heal. Her faith in Him as the Messiah drew her to the hem of His garment and there she was healed made whole.

2. Jairus’ 12 year old daughter raised from the dead —“But when he had sent them all out, he took the child’s father and mother, along with his companions, and entered the child’s room. He clasped the girl’s hand and said, “Talitha koum,” which means, “Little girl, get up.” At that, she was up and walking around!” (Mark 5:21-43) Jesus raised Jairus' daughter inspite of the unbelief of the mourners who mocked Him when He told them she was not dead only asleep, and He had come to awaken her. How many of us have fallen asleep and are in need of Jesus to come take us by the hands call us by name and say, "Get up!"

3. A women caught in adultery about to be stoned to death — “The religion scholars and Pharisees led in a woman who had been caught in an act of adultery. They stood her in plain sight of everyone and said, “Teacher, this woman was caught red-handed in the act of adultery. Moses, in the Law, gives orders to stone such persons. What do you say?” They were trying to trap him into saying something incriminating so they could bring charges against him.

Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger in the dirt. They kept at him, badgering him. He straightened up and said, “The sinless one among you, go first: Throw the stone.” Bending down again, he wrote some more in the dirt. Hearing that, they walked away, one after another, beginning with the oldest. The woman was left alone. Jesus stood up and spoke to her. “Woman, where are they? Does no one condemn you?” “No one, Master,” “Neither do I,” said Jesus. “Go on your way. From now on, don’t sin.” (John 8:3-11)

Although He was willing to die, He was not willing to see others die in their sins not even this woman caught in the sin of adultery. Woman where are your accusers? Their gone, then neither do I accuse you…go and sin no more. The forgiveness of sin, what a powerful weapon against the devil; we too like Jesus have the power to forgive sins. “Then He took a deep breath and breathed into them, “Receive the Holy Spirit,” he said. “If you forgive someone’s sins, they’re gone for good. If you don’t forgive sins, what are you going to do with them?” (John 20:23)

4. Roman Soldiers forgiven who were crucifying Him—“When they got to the place called Skull Hill, they crucified him, along with the criminals, one on his right, and the other on his left. Jesus prayed, “Father, forgive them; they don’t know what they’re doing.” (Luke 23:39-43) When is the last or first time you’ve ever forgave someone while you were being persecuted, wrongfully judged, rejected, beaten and spat upon? Never? Neither, have I but thank God, we may never have to; because, of Jesus’ redemptive work of the cross.

5. The Second Thief on the cross forgiven and promised he’d be in paradise—“One of the criminals hanging alongside cursed him: “Some Messiah you are! Save yourself! Save us!” But the other one made him shut up: “Have you no fear of God? You’re getting the same as him. We deserve this, but not him—he did nothing to deserve this.”Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you enter your kingdom.” He said, “Don’t worry, I will. Today you will join me in paradise.” (Luke 23:42-43) This man did not know who Jesus was and there is no records which indicate that He had ever seen or interacted with Jesus before that day. No doubt just like many others He could see He was not guilty and did not deserve to die. Watching the persecution of Jesus did not make him pity Jesus but believe on Him; that He was in fact who they said He was…"The King of the Jews” “The Messiah” then he said, ‘Jesus, remember me when you enter your Kingdom’. Jesus said, “Don’t worry, I will. Today you will join me in paradise.” (Luke 23:42-43)

In our humanity we may find it very difficult to step out of our circumstance, out of our own suffering and pain long enough to consider someone else’ suffering and seek to ease their pain. The Apostle Paul said, “Follow me as I follow Christ.” Let us daily strive to continue to follow Christ Jesus, even is we stumble, fall or slow down, don’t quite; “There has never been the slightest doubt in my mind that the God who started this great work in us would keep at it and bring it to a flourishing finish on the very day Christ Jesus appears” (Philippians 1:6) We need only continue to trust Him and believe what His word tells us, in this we cannot go wrong.

My Prayer: Ahh Heavenly Father, it is You who has begun this great work of righteousness within us and I’m confident that no matter what it looks like, what it feels like, or what the enemy tries to tell us You will complete the work of Your hands in each of us. Forgive us for those times when we have grown weary in the fight and may have even laid down or sword and shields. But we will not quit we will pick them back up again and continue to war in the spirit and pray Your will into this earth. Thank you Father for Your restoring work being wrought within us…in Jesus’ name we pray Amen!!!

#94 “Great Intercessors of the Bible”

(Jesus Christ – Anointed Savior)

“It is Christ Jesus that died, yea rather, that was raised

from the dead, who is at the right hand of God,

who also makes intercession for us."

(Romans 8:34)

In this lesson we will cover the life of the ultimate Intercessor, “Jesus Christ” there is so much to cover it may take a couple lesson to complete but let’s see how far we can get in this lesson. I truly struggled with whether or not to cover the life of Christ the ‘Greatest Intercessor of the Bible’ in this lesson or later; however, my conclusion was this, if not for the intercession of Christ during both His earthly ministry and after His ascension, we would truly not understand intercession at the magnitude we do today. “It is Christ Jesus that died, yea rather, that was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us." (Romans 8:34) Thank God He ever live to make intercession for the saints.

After all, It was through watching His life as an intercessor that has taught us the true meaning of what it means to “Stand in the Gap” in intercession. “So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.” You see Jesus intercession didn’t just start when he arrived there on earth but since He was pre-existent with the Father He work of intercession began in the garden when Adam and Eve first sinned. Even then the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit were working on a plan of redemption. It had already been decided that someone who could remain spotless would have to come down and pay the ransom for the sins of mankind.

“And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him.” (Isaiah 59:16) “I will give him the honors of a victorious soldier, because he exposed himself to death. He was counted among the rebels. He bore the sins of many and interceded for rebels.” (Isaiah 53:12) Once Christ made the commitment to pay the ransom for our sin He knew that He had to stay in constant communication with the Father via daily prayer for instructions and to be strengthened for the day’s tasks. Knowing that Jesus prayed and interceded on a daily basis should be encouraging to us as intercessors knowing that we are following in the footsteps of the Master Intercessor.

So what kind of intercession did Jesus do on a daily basis? Let’s take a look at some instances of Christ’s intercession.
1. He prayed of the generation of the future —“One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could lay his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him.” (Matthew 19:13) It was through this prayer that we came to understand that God’s Kingdom cannot be entered with high mindedness but we must become humble as little children.

2. He prayed for his present disciples and future disciples — “I have revealed you to the ones you gave me from this world. They were always yours. You gave them to me, and they have kept your word. Now they know that everything I have is a gift from you, for I have passed on to them the message you gave me. They accepted it and know that I came from you, and they believe you sent me.” (John 17:6) Jesus knew that once He was gone that the enemy would launch his most fierce attack ever upon His disciples; believing that they would be at their weakest since Jesus was no longer there to help them.

3. He prayed for all His future disciples — “My prayer is not for the world, but for those you have given me, because they belong to you. All who are mine belong to you, and you have given them to me, so they bring me glory. Now I am departing from the world; they are staying in this world, but I am coming to you. Holy Father, you have given me your name; now protect them by the power of your name so that they will be united just as we are. During my time here, I protected them by the power of the name you gave me. I guarded them so that not one was lost, except the one headed for destruction, as the Scriptures foretold.” (Hebrews 7:23)

4. He prayed for those of us living today — “Earlier there were a lot of Levitical Priests; however all of them died and had to be replaced. But Jesus’ priesthood is permanent. He’s there from now to eternity to save every one of us who comes to God through Him, always on the job to speak up for them.” (Hebrews 7:23) Because Jesus has a priesthood which will never pass away, He is ever praying and interceding for the souls of the lost and those who are His. This assurance we have too, “He that keeps Israel neither slumbers or sleeps.” (Psalms 121: 4) He is always watching over us.

5. He prayed for those who had unbelief — “Jesus responded, “Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe?” So they rolled the stone aside. Then Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, thank you for hearing me. You always hear me, but I said it out loud for the sake of all these people standing here, so that they will believe you sent me.” Whether it was a father whose son was posed with a demonic spirit, or a crowd who was questioning His power to raise the dead, Jesus prayed for those with unbelief that they might believe not on Him but believe that He and the Father were working together. It appears that no matter how many miracles Jesus performed before them or how many He feed from five fish and two loaves of bread, they still doubted He was the Son of God…The Messiah sent from God, to take away their sins.

How much like us they were, for we too still struggle with our belief that He will help us, that He will show up on time to get the rent paid, the lights turned on or the water and gas bill paid. Time after time He comes to our rescue and yet we still find ourselves questioning if He will do it again. Beloved He is the same yesterday, today and forever; if He did it once or twice He’ll do it again and again!!!

My Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You for our Great High Priest, Savior, Friend and constant Intercessor Jesus Christ. Thank You for sending Your Son to pay the ransom for our sins, and for redeeming us back to You. Help us to learn for Jesus’ example of intercession and follow His lead in prayer and intercession. Help us to not become weary in well doing, help us not to faint. Renew us again in your power and grace. Father we call back those intercessors who have fallen away and grown weary in prayer. We call them back to their place of intimacy with You and their place of prayer warriors, watchmen on the wall of Your house. Jesus we bless Your Holy Name and give You honor and praise. Give us a stronger passion and desire for prayer and intercession for You people in Jesus name, Amen!!!

Anna – God’s Favor and Grace)

“For my eyes have seen Your salvation, which You have prepared

in the sight of all people, a light for revelation to the

Gentiles and for glory to Your people Israel."

(Luke 2:25)

Now we move into the new testament in search of more Great Intercessors of the Bible. In this lesson we will learn about the prophet’s “Simeon and Anna” who both received Jesus as the Messiah, "God’s Salvation." “Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.” Simeon was not just in the temple to pray that day but was there on assignment, by the Holy Spirit. The text doesn’t tell us how old Simeon was but we can denote from his statement, “For my eyes have seen Your salvation, which You have prepared in the sight of all people, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to Your people Israel." that he has been waiting for many year and was now a very old man.

Simeon was not just waiting to see just any baby, but waiting on the scripture to be fulfilled, which foretold of a child born to a virgin, whose name would be called “Wonderful Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father and The Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6b) For this he had waited in anticipation for many years. Each day praying for the deliverer of the world to be born; so much so that the Holy Spirit told him that he would not taste death until he saw the Messiah. What an incredible testimony of a true intercessor! Would that someday, this would be our testimony that; because, of a prayer we had prayed God sustained our life just so we could see the fulfillment of what we had asked for in prayer. Truly in this story we see the essences of the verse, “They that wait upon the Lord, shall renew their strength…” (Isaiah 40:31)

That day was unlike any other for Simeon for the scriptures says, “The Holy Spirit had shown him that he would see the Messiah of God before he died. Led by the Spirit, he entered the Temple. As the parents of the child Jesus brought him in to carry out the rituals of the Law, Simeon took him into his arms and blessed God: I love Simeon’s response, “God, you can now release your servant; release me in peace as you promised. With my own eyes I’ve seen your salvation; it’s now out in the open for everyone to see: A God-revealing light to the non-Jewish nations, and of glory for your people Israel.” (Luke 231-32) We have often heard the phrase, “Patience is a Virtue.” Well in this case it truly was, because now Simeon would as last have what he longed for; because Simeon’s wait was twofold, on the one hand he would see firsthand the Consolation of Israel, yet on the other he would get to enter into rest. “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace.” Now Simeon could close his eyes and rest knowing the one day the Christ Child would conquer death, hell and the grave and he would enter into eternal rest with the Lord.

After proclaiming salvation and redemption not just for the Israelites but for the gentiles as well, he turned and blessed Mary and Joseph telling them. “This child marks both the failure and the recovery of many in Israel, a figure misunderstood and contradicted—the pain of a sword-thrust through you—But the rejection will force honesty, as God reveals who they really are.” Now having done what he was instructed to do by the Holy Spirit, he could go home and rest.

Shortly after Simeon had acknowledged who the child was the Prophetess Anna began proclaiming the good new to all the people their in the temple. "Now Anna the prophetess was also there, a daughter of Phanuel from the tribe of Asher. She was by now a very old woman. She had been married seven years and a widow for eighty-four. She never left the Temple area, worshiping night and day with her fasting’s and prayers.” Like Simeon, the prophetess Anna had been watching, waiting and praying day and night for the promised one, the Christ Child to appear and here He was right before her eyes. Now Anna’s was a much different reaction to seeing the Messiah, than that of Simeon. “At the very time Simeon was praying, she showed up, broke into an anthem of praise to God, and talked about the child to all who were waiting expectantly for the freeing of Jerusalem.”

Because of her faithfulness to prayer and fasting in the temple all those many years Anna was considered a Mother to Jerusalem; like any good mother she was concerned for the welfare of the children of Israel and daily lifted them up in prayer.“She never left the Temple area, worshiping night and day with her fasting’s and prayers.” Seeing the Christ Child she knew that God had finely answered her prayers by sending a deliver to set her people free. Never under estimate your prayers and intercession whether it’s one single person or nations; because if God has placed them on your heart then He has also anointed your prayers with a “Breaker Anointing” (Micah 2:12-13) to shatter the strongholds of the principalities which holds them captive.

Simeon and Anna like so many intercessors today are laying down their lives to stand in the gap for the people of this world. So to we should look to see the salvation of the Lord just as Simeon and Anna did. The prayers and intercession we send forth today will alter the futures of multitudes; because of the anointing which breaks the yoke right off their necks and the shackles off their feet.

My Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank for examples like Simeon and Anna who help us to understand the value of waiting upon You. Thank You for renewing our strength as we may grow weary in the waiting, keep us strong with our eyes focused on the horizon of your promise. Father thank You for anointing us to pray with the force of the “Breaker Anointing” over the lives of those You have assigned to our lives. We know with an assurance that You will fulfill Your promise and bring deliverance to every people group, nation tribe and tongue. In Jesus precious name we give You praise... Amen!!!

#92 “Great Intercessors of the Bible”

(Malachi – My God's Messenger)

“Edom says, “Though we are devastated, we will once again build the ruined places.”

So the LORD who rules over all responds, “They indeed may build, but I will overthrow.

They will be known as the land of evil, the people with whom the LORD is

permanently displeased.”

(Malachi 1: 4-5)

New English Translation (NET Bible)

In our lesson yesterday we studied the prophet Obadiah — his intercession and prophetic announcement of judgment over the Edomites. Edom was being judged by God, because of their pride and arrogance and refusal to help their brother Judah who was being attacked by enemy forces. To make matters worse they even helped there enemy by rounding up all of the survivors and selling them into slavery.“You should not march through the gates of my people in the day of their disaster, nor gloat over them in their calamity in the day of their disaster, nor seize their wealth in the day of their disaster. You should not wait at the crossroads to cut down their fugitives, nor hand over their survivors in the day of their trouble.” (Obadiah 1:13-14)

God did just what He had promised and destroyed Edom; however, they still did not learn their lesson, “Edom says, “Though we are devastated, we will once again build the ruined places.” (Malachi 1:4) So what lesson was that; having to suffer the consequences of displeasing the Lord God Most High. They still thought they could usurp God’s authority and do things their own way “So the LORD who rules over all responds, “They indeed may build, but I will overthrow. They will be known as the land of evil, the people with whom the LORD is permanently displeased.” (Malachi 1:5)

By the time of Malachi began to prophesy in Israel they had suffered much as a result of their rebellion, one would think that by now they had a clear understanding of the consequences of not obeying the Law’s of God. One would think that they would never do anything wrong or contrary to the will of God, but not so.
“A son honors his father, and a slave his master. If I am a father, where is the honor due me? If I am a master, where is the respect due me?” says the LORD Almighty. “It is you priests who show contempt for my name. “But you ask, ‘How have we shown contempt for your name?’ “By offering defiled food on my altar.“But you ask, ‘How have we defiled you?’

Even though the Temple of God had been restored, the people returning to Jerusalem from exile had lost their passion. It wasn’t long before they became overcome with apathy concerning the things of God. Even the priest had become corrupt and spiritual weariness. They no longer took pride in following the Law of God concerning the Temple and offering of sacrifices. “By saying, that the LORD’S Table is contemptible. When you offer blind animals for sacrifice, is that not wrong? When you sacrifice lame or diseased animals, is that not wrong? Try offering them to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you?” says the LORD Almighty.”

Malachi, was confronted by a people that were struggling, grasping at belief that God still loved them. They were looking at all of their misfortune refusing to acknowledge the role they themselves played in bring about their circumstances. “You have wearied the LORD with your words. But you say, “How have we wearied him?” Because you say, “Everyone who does evil is good in the Lord’s opinion, and he delights in them,” or “Where is the God of justice?” It was Malachi’s job to show the people where they had erred in the things of the Lord. Then they could take responsibility for their sins and repent—turn back to God.

God said, “I am about to send my messenger, who will clear the way before me. Indeed, the Lord you are seeking will suddenly come to His temple, and the messenger of the covenant, whom you long for, is certainly coming,” says the LORD who rules over all. Who can endure the day of His coming? Who can keep standing when He appears?" I’m sending my final answer to your sinful way, you backsliding I’m sending My Messenger and He want take no for an answer and non will be able to resist Him. But this time He will refine your hearts He will wash you and purify you...

"For He will be like a refiner’s fire, like a launderer’s soap, He will act like a refiner and purifier of silver and will cleanse the Levites and refine them like gold and silver. Then they will offer the LORD a proper offering. The offerings of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to the LORD as in former times and years past.”(Malachi Then you will serve Me once again as you did when you first Loved Me. This all reminds me of the passage in Revelation where the Angle tells the church to return to their First Love.

Here again, we see the true heart of the Father, “On the day when I act,” says the LORD Almighty, “They will be my treasured possession. I will spare them, just as a father has compassion and spares his son who serves him. And you will again see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.” All He wants and has ever wanted is for His children to Love and Obey Him… isn’t this after all what every parent want? “See, I will send the prophet Elijah to you before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes. He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents; or else I will come and strike the land with total destruction.”

We today could us a Malachi to remind us from whence we have fallen, so that we can do our first works over again and return to the Lover of our souls. For we too find ourselves struggling to follow closely after God. Malachi made a call to repentance, which should prompt even us today to turn and live righteously before the Lord God. Yet it offers us renewed hope that God has not finished with His work of salvation, mercy and grace for His children.

My Prayer: Holy and Gracious Father, we come tonight like King David, “Lord we’ve gotten out of step with you now for a long time… We understand that what you’re after is truth from the inside out. Enter us, then; conceive a new, true life within each of us. Soak me in your laundry and I’ll come out clean, scrub us and we’ll have a snow-white life. Tune us in to foot-tapping songs, set these once-broken bones to dancing. Don’t look too close for blemishes; give us a clean bill of health. God, make a fresh start in us, shape a Genesis week from the chaos of our lives. Don’t throw us out with the trash, or fail to breathe holiness in our lungs. Bring us back from exile; put a fresh wind in my sails! Give us a job teaching rebels Your ways so the lost can find their way home to You.” (The Message Bible) Father, create in us clean hearts and renew a right spirit within us, don’t let us turn away from your loving-kindness…in Jesus precious name we pray, Amen!
