Makes it easier to find what's what, doesn't it? Muddled on the differences between them? We have a chart for that! We'll be gradually phasing in these names on the hangtags and such. Since there have been some naming issues in past (ahem), I'm taking it slow on these.

You betcha! Peachy Green is run by one woman, me!

My name is Dawn Bucholtz and I work from home. I plan the diaper print and color selections, gather all the materials needed, and hand them off to the seamstresses. Right now we have three people primarily doing the sewing. They work at at separate nearby location -- I have dedicated space in my home but not that much!

The seamstresses have a professional cutter slice the fabric into the necessary shapes and then they do all the sewing. Then diapers come back to me. I inspect and in some cases assemble, apply the hang tags, and do all the shipping and order fulfillment and customer service.

Did I mention that I do all this with a 5-year-old at my side? Oh yeah, I'm a WAHM for sure. I also have two school-age children with all their activities to wrangle. My husband is a teacher, so he's got students to mentor as well. It's never a dull moment around here!

Good Grief, Why all the name changes?

I hate that people are still talking about the name changes so much. It is embarrassing to me. I wish so much I had thought of "Peachy Green" right from the start. Still...2 years later...I am getting restaurant marketing calls several times a week. Someone called me yesterday about credit card processing systems. I asked if they thought they were calling a restaurant, and they said yes, they had gotten the information from a business list book at a library!

I never put myself on these lists, of course. Several times over the Fishnoodles years, I had people contact me to say they loved the look of Fishnoodles diapers but the name was so gross to them (fish + poop + noodles) that they couldn't bring themselves to try one. (You know how fish poop looks like a little noodle? Honestly that never occurred to me, but once it was "out there" on the internet I knew I had to change the name).

So I tried to pick something positive and uplifting - Bright Star Baby. The Bright Starts corporation doesn't make diapers and the words are not the same, so we never expected they would come after us. I still think we might have won if it went to court, but who has money for all those legal fees? We settled by changing names - again - bleh! That whole deal was truly been one of the most stressful things to even happen to me.

I'm trying to just keep moving in a positive direction, and not quitting because I still believe in the products we make, I still think they are pretty darn awesome, and deserve a chance to get better known in the CD community. I absolutely love the Peachy Green name, and I just wish I could turn back the clock and start all over!

Peachy Green is new on the scene, yet these diapers and covers are already tried, tested, and proven with many published reviews by top bloggers who rate them highly. Peachy Green is Bright Star Baby with a new name - same great fit, fabrics, and makers. The only thing that has changed is the label.
Why the new name? Bright Star Baby was forced to change business names by a large corporation protecting its trademark. While Bright Star Baby did not agree with this challenge, they also felt they were left with no other choice. So the folks at Bright Star Baby got creative and came up with Peachy Green. “Peachy” means excellent, and “peachy keen” means cool or awesome. And then, because cloth diapers are reusable and lighten the load on landfills, ”peachy keen” became Peachy Green. If the peach logo reminds you a little bit of a rounded baby bottom, that's no accident!
The new name really reflects what this line of cloth diapers and covers is all about. People are paying more attention these days to where the things they use, eat, and wear are made, how they are made, and how far they travel.
Peachy Green diapers and covers are always local and in season. Not only are they sewn in the USA, but they are sewn locally to the company headquarters. Company owner Dawn Bucholtz is able to pick them up, take a careful look at how production is going, and chat with the great team of Americans who do the sewing.

Big News #1: Bright Star Baby is changing names!

Yep, you read that right. Out of the blue, BSB got a letter demanding that we change our business name. The issue? Our business name was too close to another business' trademarked name. We eventually decided to comply - we're lovers, not fighters. So hey, life hands you lemons, you make lemonade. Or in this case, peaches.

We had to come up with a new name, so we got a little crazy, a little creative, and came up with a fresh new brand name: Peachy Green! “Peachy” means excellent, and “peachy keen” means cool or awesome. We took ”peachy keen” and tweaked it to Peachy Green. After all, cloth diapers are reusable and lighten the load on landfills, so they're “green.”

The peach logo might remind you a little bit of a rounded baby bottom. And the green leaf rising out of the top is like a flag, waving because we're here, alive and kickin', and not going down without a fight.

Peachy Green AIO diapers and covers are the same as Bright Star Baby - same great fit, fabrics, and makers. The only thing that's changing is the label. Over the next week, our website will become Peachy Green. It takes a while and we have to do it "live" so you may see oddities as we transition.

We wouldn't have changed names if we weren't forced into it. But now that we are going there, we're going to embrace the new name and have a Peachy Green party! Come join us! Big News #2: we have a new one-size diaper system!

Coming soon - The Peachy Green One Size All in Two. This diaper system features a diaper shell that can be used for multiple changes, and bamboo fleece soakers for super absorbant natural-fiber goodness. The shell and soakers are both one-size! They adjust through sizes 0, 1, and 2 to grow with your baby.

How does it work? Start with the soaker - turn it upside down and snap it into position for size 0, 1, or 2.

Now it's set and you can leave it there until baby grows. Flip the soaker over and snap into the shell.

Now fasten the diaper onto baby - the 3 rise settings and 5 rows of waist/leg settings give you tons of adjustments! Wait a couple hours...Time to change? Snap out the wet soaker. Snap in a dry soaker. Go!

On the inside of the shell, the buttery soft microfleece resists wetness. If your baby is a super soaker, you may need to let the shell dry a little before re-use. This is easy to do if you rotate two or more shells.

The new All in Two comes in colors and prints! Preorders start October 1, with an anticipated ship date of October 10. Check our website or your favorite retailer to reserve yours.

And now, how about a sale?

Ever since the BSB launch in January 2011, whenever we had a flawed item we'd set it aside in a box. There's not much in the box -- yes, our seamstresses are that good ;-) But still, there are a few things in there that make for a fun little sale.

I like to do this kind of sale over at our Hyena Cart store - Hyena Cart a shopping system that was started about 10 years ago for selling high-demand one of a kind items. It works really well for "stalking", where you can preview an item and then the second it goes live, you can pounce on it and grab it. The thing is, when you add the item to the cart, it's yours. You can't grab it and then put it back.

All the seconds are listed at a nice discount. My criteria for seconds is pretty strict, often I have to really look hard to find the flaw. If it's more visible, I've noted that and added an extra discount. Sale starts Thursday Sept. the 8th at noon central. Surf on over to the SALE section and see if there's anything you must have!

On a personal note, the Baby Pirate represents a dream come true. The Baby Pirate is a motif I developed in 2007 when I was "Painted Patootie." Back then, I was hand-painting every diaper and shirt. I thought there had to be a better way (plus I just couldn't keep up with demand). It's taken three years to finally realize my goal to bring you the Baby Pirate as professionally printed diapers and shirts. You may see other diapers and clothes made from this fabric - we've shipped 2000 yards out so far!

Our new store, Diaper Sewing Supplies, is now open. Here you will find our custom milled fabrics, PUL, print PUL, bamboo fabrics, hemp fabric, foldover elastic, specialty diaper elastics, snaps and more.

The section for diaper sewing supplies will directed from Bright Star Baby to the new store by the end of the year, and in fact all of the diaper sewing inventory is already available at the new Diaper Sewing Supplies store. We have much more to list than is currently on the site, so please check back. We will keep adding in the weeks and months to come.

A cloth diapering mom, Juliane, wrote in to her local news station and got cloth diapers featured in a short segment.

Although the diaper brands she is using are not mentioned in the piece, in the first shot Juliane's baby is wearing a Nantucket plaid, and in the last shot a Turtle Friends All in One Diaper by Fishnoodles.

It's great to see cloth diapers promoted on a community level. Even if the piece sought to be "balanced" and the pediatrician does not think there are any health benefits (too bad we can't leave comments!) - perhaps this story will give at least a few parents the idea that cloth diapers are a great option because they work so well and look so cute!

How did we choose the Bright Star name?

Changing a business name these days is a huge and risky undertaking. Simply trying to find a new website name is extremely difficult! Plus, we felt that new name should be more than just words with a web address still available - it should have some meaning and significance.

Thinking back on the fundamentals, I asked the question: Why do we make cloth diapers and not some other product? I'm not sure I would even be in business if it were some other product! What are the things that influenced me to start this business? Lifelong interest in the environment and conservation. My nurturing instincts as a mother, wanting my babies to be utterly comfortable. My love of fabric and pattern, sewing and design. It all came together around cloth diapers.

I slept on it more than a few nights. Lying there between sleep and waking, I kept having this vision of a little person crawling or toddling around with a star symbol on the back of their diaper. These words came to me: "Every baby is a bright star."

We asked around, brainstormed, and generated a long list of potential business names. Some were funny, some were silly, some were just okay - and most of them were already "taken" as a business name or website address. Bright Star was still on my list, perhaps saving the best for last.

The moment I typed in brightstarbaby.com and saw that it was available - and there wasn't another "Bright Star" in the cloth diaper business - was thrilling. That was it! And a great fit with our mission: "Every baby is an opportunity to change the world, starting with washable reusable diapers."

Bright Star is the diaper label. The word "baby" isn't on the label because it's self-evident, we know this a baby, a "bright star" in the universe. Should we expand into other areas, Bright Star will still fit. The cloth diaper store is Bright Star Baby. With any luck this will carry us forward for years to come.

Welcome to Bright Star Baby! It is December 1st, 2010. We started in business four years ago today, under the name "Painted Patootie." It has been quite a journey! From hand-painted art diapers to covers and fitteds to all in one diapers, from the transition to "Fishnoodles" and now to a new beginning. Today we celebrate our anniversary with new store name - Bright Star Baby. Coming in 2011 we will launch new diapers under our Bright Star label. We intend to be in business for many years to come and we appreciate each and every one joining the journey with us.
