Five days into the new year and I've decided that I would like to step out of my comfort zone.

I woke up this morning and realize that I needed a change. I don't plan to do anything drastic like throw away all my clothes or dye my hair orange. I'm talking more like baby steps.

Just like every other weekend I get up bath and put on my regular Saturdays and Sundays outfit. Big sweatpants and since its winter my pink sweater with a hood that says "I'm a Marine mom". I work in the corporate world so my Monday thur Friday outfits are professional wear. During the summer months I tend to wear the same shorts around the house. In addition, this up-coming February will mark my 3 years anniversary for being natural which my hair is in a protective style (2-strand twist) at least 95% of the time.

New Year! New Change! I will start a 4 part series where I share my progress every 3 months on how, who and what motivated me.

What exactly will I be changing? I will try more hairstyles, purchase a new outfit at least once a month, and try different types of food(this is really stepping out of my comfort zone).

I started shopping this morning for an outfit particularly looking for a different styles and came across this website, Sophia's Chic Boutique. Love the style this website carries! As mentioned my comfort on the weekends are sweat pants (every now and then I may wear a pair of jeans) and the first thing I noticed on this website was jogging pants! (go figure, lol) but more stylish than the original sweat pants I've been wearing on the weekend.

So, I think my first outfit of the year will be a purchase from Sophia's Chic Boutique.

Bentonite clay have become very popular in the natural hair community as a form of detoxifying your hair. However, what I notice is it can be a drying if left on too long

Rhassoul Clay - detoxifying, cleansing, degreasing and astringent properties. It is a natural mineral clay mined in the atlas mountains of morocco since the eighth century. In the natural hair community it is used mostly for deep conditioning. However, with this clay if left in hair too long improves elasticity and leaves my hair feeling soft and bouncy.

Natural Hair - Bentonite Clay Hair Mask

For the past 4 weeks I have been co-washing my hair weekly. So, I decided to do a natural deep cleansing on my hair.

Cleansing is an essential part of a regimen to remove product build-up but using shampoo can strip the moisture we already struggle to retain. Using a mud wash (Bentonite Clay) clarifies while leaving your hair conditioned and moisturized.

Bentonite Clay can be used for facials, acne, body wraps, clay baths, and foot soaks. It's 100% calcium absorbs and removes toxins, heavy metals, impurities and chemicals.

Breakage, split ends, fried hair, dyed hair, and more this is something that can be very hard to repair .

The good thing is there are remedies to fixing damaged hair:

Damage hair can be turned into healthy hair with proper care and products to aid.

Breakage caused by the friction of brush bristles rubbing against the cuticle, you should keep the cuticle smooth and intact by coating damp or dry hair from the mid-shaft to the ends with serum.
Split ends this happens when the cuticle at the ends of the hair shaft wears away. The remedy is to trim and apply a product to the ends. For instance, glycerin or hyaluronic acid, both bond the ends together.
Fried hair if you are using heating tools at 200f, the water inside each hair will start to boil and the hair blisters eventually break. To repair this set the styling tool to low and use shampoo and conditioner that will hydrate your hair's most fragile spot like the ends.
Dyed hair this strip natural pigments and create tears that make hair porous and weak. The remedy is once a week use a deep conditioner protein treatment to coat the cuticle and fill in the hollow areas.
