Once you have Windows 8 up and running, the first thing you'll want to do is start installing the apps you need to get things done. Thankfully, Microsoft's new Windows 8 store offers quick access to a number of the applications you'd normally have to go hunt down anyway, but it also has some real treasures worth downloading. Here are some of the best.

Mail, Calendar, People, and Messaging - You probably already have these apps pre-loaded with Windows 8. As their names imply, they give you quick access to your email, calendar and contacts right from the Start Screen. Mail and Calendar support multiple account types, including Microsoft and Outlook.com accounts, Google accounts, and others. People can connect with Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Outlook. Messaging gives you access to MSN and Facebook friends.
Kindle - The Kindle app for Windows 8 works especially well on Surface tablets, it works just as well on your Windows 8 desktop or laptop. Sign in with your Amazon account to get access to all of your Kindle books, and you can even pin them to the Start Screen to get right back to a book you're reading. All of the features you would expect in a Kindle app—highlighting, dictionary lookup, text and background colors, font size, and more—are all available in the app.
Google Search - If you still prefer Google to Bing, the Google Search app for Windows 8 puts Google in a nice big tile right on your home screen. The app gives you a nice, simple search bar, but also lets you voice search, gives you quick access to Google services like Gmail, Google News, Google Drive, and Google Reader, and more. It'd be nice to have a Google Search bar right on the Start Screen, but maybe in the next update.
Evernote - If you're a heavy Evernote user, the Evernote app for Windows 8 lets you browse, edit, organize, and manage your notebooks and notes right from the Start Screen. The app doesn't do anything that the webapp doesn't do, but it's a fast and free way to get to all of your notes without going to the Desktop, opening your preferred browser, and logging in. The Windows 8 app saves you more than a few steps, and gets you working right away.
MetroTwit - Our favorite Twitter client for Windows, MetroTwit for Windows 8 looks just as good on the Start Screen as it does on the desktop. You can view your streams side-by-side, browse user profiles, update your own stream, view and manage lists, everything you would expect from a solid Twitter client. The free version is ad-supported and only lets you manage one account. If you shell out $5 for the Pro version, you can manage multiple accounts and remove the ads.
TuneIn Radio - For those of us who enjoy a little streaming music or internet radio while we work, TuneIn Radio, one of your favorite internet radio services, has a Windows 8 app and live tile that gives you complete access to the service's massive catalog of streaming music stations, terrestrial radio stations that simulcast on the internet, and global stations with live streams. Once you hit play, the live tile shows you what you're currently listening to, and you can open other apps, go to the desktop, or get to work without having to go all the way back to the app to quickly check what you're listening to. You can even pin your favorite stations to the Start Screen.
Skitch - Skitch for Windows 8 puts all of the tools of the desktop app on the Start Screen, including the ability to annotes and decorate images, manage uploads to your account, browse images you've already uploaded, and more. You can use the app to take photos from your webcam and upload that, or you can use Skitch to edit pictures already saved to your computer before sharing them.
FlightAware - One of the nice things about the Start Screen is that it gives you quick access to useful information, often through live tiles. If you travel, or have to pick someone up who's on their way to you, FlightAware tells you more than you could possibly want to know about your flight. Its arrival time, date, current position, even its altitude and speed are all available, and if you need to know when someone's landed, you can create notifications for specific flights so you'll know when to leave for the airport. You can even track national flight delays, so you know if you're in for a rough time when you get there.
XBox SmartGlass - Even if you don't have a Windows 8 tablet, we think that XBox SmartGlass is worth installing if you do have an XBox 360 in your house. Since you can use your computer as a second screen for your XBox through SmartGlass, you can control the browser on your 360 to bring up web pages, you can redeem codes and download games, and if you have downloaded music and video on your Windows 8 PC, you can push them to your 360 to display on the big screen effortlessly. Plus, as more XBox 360 games incorporate SmartGlass features, anyone with a Windows 8 desktop or laptop in your house will be able to interact with the people playing on the TV in the living room.

Apple reveals Lightning video adapters

Apple has launched 2 Lightning video adapters on its online stores, allowing users of the iPad Mini, iPad 4, iPhone 5 and fifth-generation iPod Touch to output video to an external HDTV, monitor or projector.
The Lightning Digital AV adapter features an HDMI out carrying both HD video and sound. It allows the new generation of iOS devices to either play video on an HDTV in 1080p, or mirror whatever they’re showing onscreen in 720p.
The Lightning VGA adapter does exactly the same, minus the audio part. Both adapters also include a Lightning port of their own, allowing you to hook up another cable.
Both adapters cost £39 at the online Apple store, and will start shipping in two to three weeks’ time.

Citroen DS3 Electrum – best for eco-warriors

No surprises here – you voted the iPad 3 your most wanted future gadget in the 2011 Stuff Gadget Awards. From the moment Apple launched the iPad 2, iPad 3 speculation has been in serious overdrive.
2011 saw some great efforts from the Android camp, including Asus' original Transformer (winner of the Stuff's 2011 Product of the year award), and Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 – but we're expecting Apple's next iPad effort to take things to a whole new level.
An eye-slicingly sharp 2048 x 1536 pixel 10in screen, a quad-core Tegra 3-baiting A6 processor and a carbon fibre case are just some of the rumoured specs for the iPad 3 that could see it setting the gold standard for tablets once again. A Google book deal is good for everyone — except maybe Amazon

After seven years of legal battles, Google has finally reached an agreement with American book publishers that will let it scan and digitize books. The deal stands to make things better for readers and publishers — although Amazon is probably not happy about it.

It’s possible there was some cheering at Google this week, when the search giant announced a deal with the Association of American Publishers over its book-scanning project, but it’s more likely there was just an overwhelming sense of relief, since the deal amounts to a truce in what has been a gruelling seven-year battle. For almost a decade now, Google has been trying to scan and digitize as many books as it can, but it has been stymied by lawsuits from the AAP and the Authors Guild, who claim that the scanning process amounts to copyright infringement.

Although the Guild says that it is still steadfastly opposed to a deal, the agreement with the AAP means that Google might finally be able to start moving forward with its plan, which stands to make book searching and buying a lot easier — something that would theoretically benefit just about everyone, with the possible exception of Amazon.

There is much that is still unknown about the latest agreement: Neither side is saying much about the details, including whether Google will be able to scan books without having a prior deal in place with the owner of the rights, and what will happen with respect to the contentious topic of “orphan works,” or books whose publisher and/or author cannot be found. Both of these aspects — among others — were what helped to torpedo an earlier settlement agreement Google had made with the publishers’ organization and the Guild, which was eventually struck down last year. That deal also involved the payment of $125 million by the search company, but the latest arrangement has no financial terms associated with it, or at least not any that have been made public.
From world-changing dream to never-ending lawsuit

It’s hard to remember now, but when Google first announced in 2004 that it planned to scan and digitize the world’s books (a project that used to be known as Google Books, before the search giant started actually selling books, and then became known as Google Print and finally the Google Library Project) it sounded like another one of the company’s awe-inspiring and somewhat futuristic attempts to create a better world — along the lines of robot cars and Google Street View. Google even had partnerships with some of the world’s most famous universities, including Harvard, which provided access to their massive archives of historical texts and journals (although Harvard has since shelved its partnership and put its efforts into the Digital Public Library of America project instead).

It didn’t take long for reality to set in, however: within a year, the publishers group and Authors Guild had sued the company, arguing that scanning their books without permission amounted to copyright infringement — even though Google only showed users a small excerpt or “snippet” of the book when they searched for it, and also linked prominently to sites where someone could buy a copy. To the Guild and the AAP (although not to some of their members, who supported the project) scanning amounted to illegal copying, and they launched an all-out legal attack on the search company. Google offered a settlement in 2008, which wound up in court until it was rejected last year.

One of the things we don’t know is why the publishers decided to accept an agreement with Google now, especially one that sounds very similar — at least on the surface — to the one that the company has been offering in various forms for almost four years now. Did Google cave in on the “orphan works” clause that the court said gave the company too much power over these books once they were scanned? Or did the publishers’ group simply come to the conclusion that this was a war that would never end, and possibly one that should never have begun?

Publishers and readers both benefit, and so do authors

As more than one legal scholar has pointed out (not to mention Google itself), there is a case to be made that scanning of books — with or without prior approval from the rights-holder — fails under the “fair use” principle in copyright law, which allows for others to make use of copyrighted material under certain circumstances. There’s no question that Google’s scanning would likely qualify as a “transformative use,” which is one of the four factors the courts look at when it comes to determining such cases.

And not only does Google’s plan not impair the rights-holder’s ability to market their books (another of the four factors for fair use), it arguably improves it substantially by making them easier to find and buy, something publishers could clearly benefit from.

Did the publishers come to see that they had more to gain from a Google deal than they had to lose? Their position in the industry has certainly changed dramatically in the past seven years — at one time, they were the dominant players in the book business, but the rise of Amazon and the Kindle platform has destabilized things to the point where publishers are now struggling to remain competitive, especially as the focus increasingly turns to mobile and digital books. And the Google arrangement could help them to some extent, since the search giant has said that part of the deal is providing publishers with a digital copy of any books they agree to have scanned.

In fact, the Google deal appears to benefit just about everyone (even authors, although the Guild doesn’t want to admit it). Readers get to search for and buy books more easily, and Google gets to get more content that could bring in users and keep them searching, which pays the bills. The only one who probably doesn’t benefit is Amazon — since it increases the supply of digital copies that Amazon doesn’t control or get a share of the revenue from. And it may help publishers become better at selling their own digital content, instead of relying on the digital-book giant to do so.

My Nokia Asha 311 arrived 2 weeks ago. When I first opened I was amazed . It doesn't look like Typical Nokia Phones. It was very good looking mobile. Then I started using the mobile and i found It was worth its cost and had some exciting new features .

This phone has 3.2 MP camera , wi-fi,3-G etc. It has S40 series OS which is really cool.
I found this mobile very interesting according to the Price and the quality provided by Nokia.This Mobile has Many cool features But this lacks some features lik You cannot minimize any app to open any other. You have to close the previously opened app to chec k new one. As Its OS is new it also lacks Games and cool apps but Nokia is doing very well in Making games and apps available for customers by building new apps. I can se many new games regularly on OVI store.

I can say using this phon that it can be of great Success if Nokia pays More attention to S40 series..

Galaxy Note 2 here; smarter phones; Sony games launch

My Samsung Galaxy Note 2 arrived and so did an update that adds the ability to run two apps on the screen at the same time. Atooma, a free beta app, is making all of my Androids smarter and Sony launched PlayStation Mobile this week.
The latter part of this week saw me spending most of my free time with Samsung’s Galaxy Note 2. I ordered the 5.5-inch slab last weekend from overseas and it arrived on Thursday morning. It hasn’t taken me long to get used to the large size as I used the 4.65-inch Galaxy Nexus as my daily driver for nearly a year. Samsung made a smart design decision by decreasing the width of the Galaxy Note 2 over its popular predecessor.

The ability to run two apps on the screen at the same time. This function is part of the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet and the Note 2 . On Friday a small software update added the mutli-window feature to my Galaxy Note 2 and it’s very useful. Even more important; it works without any lag, which isn’t the case on the larger Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet. I suspect the performance boost of Android 4.1 is helping in addition to any optimizations Samsung may have done since the larger tablet debuted.
Turn WiFi off when leaving home ruleHelping to make all of my Android phones smarter is a free app in beta called Atooma. This software is similar to Tasker in that it can automate actions on your handset. However, it’s far more intuitive to use, even if it may be more limited than other similar apps. In just a few minutes you can use Atooma to take action upon certain events. I set up a simple rule — using the IF this then DO that interface — to turn off my Wi-Fi radio when I leave home, for example. If you want to automate phone tasks on your Android, I highly recommend the free Atooma download to see if it works for you.

It’s too bad Atooma can’t automate some of my Android gameplay, helping me to get more achievements and such: Sony PlayStation Mobile launched this week, bringing nearly two dozen initial game titles to Android phones and tablets. The first devices certified for the program are of course those made by Sony, but the HTC One S, V, and X are on the list as coming soon. Adventurous Android-types may want to try PlayStation Mobile on non-certified devices: With a rooted phone and these instructions from Android Police, you can give it a try. Non-certified devices may experience crashes and such, but I think I’ll still give this a try… maybe on that beautiful 5.5-inch Galaxy Note 2!

By definition cryptography is the process of converting recognisable data into an encrypted code for transmitting it over a network (either trusted or untrusted)

The Purpose :-
* Authentication : The process of proving one's identity.
* Privacy/confidentiality : Ensuring that no one can read the message except the intended receiver.
* Integrity : Assuring the receiver that the received message has not been altered in any way from the original.
* Non-repudiation : A mechanism to prove that the sender really sent this message.

In general cryptographic algorithms are classified into three categories as follows :

1) Secret Key Cryptography (SKC) : Uses a single key for both encryption and decryption.
2) Public Key Cryptography (PKC) : Uses one key for encryption and another for decryption.
3) Hash Functions : Uses a mathematical transformation to irreversibly "encrypt" information.

Secret Key Cryptography :- With secret key cryptography, a single key is used for both encryption and decryption. Because a single key is used for both functions, secret key cryptography is also called symmetric encryption.

Secret key cryptography algorithms that are in use today include :

1) Data Encryption Standard (DES) : DES is a block-cipher employing a 56-bit key that operates on 64-bit blocks. DES uses a key of only 56 bits, and thus it is now susceptible to "brute force" attacks.
Triple-DES (3DES) and DESX are the two important variants that strengthen DES.

2) Advanced Encryption Standard (AES ) : The algorithm can use a variable block length and key length; the latest specification allowed any combination of keys lengths of 128, 192, or 256 bits and blocks of length 128, 192, or 256 bits.

3 ) International Data Encryption Algorithm (IDEA) : Secret-key cryptosystem written by Xuejia Lai and James Massey, in 1992 and patented by Ascom; a 64-bit SKC block cipher using a 128-bit key. Also available internationally.

4) Rivest Ciphers : Named for Ron Rivest, a series of SKC algorithms.

RC1 : Designed on paper but never implemented.
RC2 : A 64-bit block cipher using variable-sized keys designed to replace DES. It's code has not been made public although many companies have licensed RC2 for use in their products. Described in RFC 2268.
RC3 : Found to be breakable during development.
RC4 : A stream cipher using variable-sized keys; it is widely used in commercial cryptography products, although it can only be exported using keys that are 40 bits or less in length.
RC5 : A block-cipher supporting a variety of block sizes, key sizes, and number of encryption passes over the data. Described in RFC 2040.
RC6 : An improvement over RC5, RC6 was one of the AES Round 2 algorithms.

5) Blowfish : A symmetric 64-bit block cipher invented by Bruce Schneier; optimized for 32-bit processors with large data caches, it is significantly faster than DES on a Pentium/PowerPC-class machine. Key lengths can vary from 32 to 448 bits in length. Blowfish, available freely and intended as a substitute for DES or IDEA, is in use in over 80 products.

Public-Key Cryptography :- Generic PKC employs two keys that are mathematically related although knowledge of one key does not allow someone to easily determine the other key. One key is used to encrypt the plaintext and the other key is used to decrypt the ciphertext. No matter which key is applied first, but both the keys are required for the process to work. Because a pair of keys are required, this approach is also called asymmetric cryptography.
In PKC, one of the keys is designated the public key and may be advertised as widely as the owner wants. The other key is designated the private key and is never revealed to another party.

Public-key cryptography algorithms that are in use today for key exchange or digital signatures include :

1) RSA : One of the most popular encryption algorithm, invented in 1977 by three MIT scientists (Ronald Rivest, Adi Shamir, and Leonard Adleman)
The key-pair is derived from a very large number, n, that is the product of two prime numbers chosen according to special rules; these primes may be 100 or more digits in length each, yielding an n with roughly twice as many digits as the prime factors. The public key information includes n and a derivative of one of the factors of n; an attacker cannot determine the prime factors of n (and, therefore, the private key) from this information alone and that is what makes the RSA algorithm so secure.

Hash Functions :- Hash functions, also called message digests and one-way encryption, are algorithms that, in some sense, use no key. Instead, a fixed-length hash value is computed based upon the plaintext that makes it impossible for either the contents or length of the plaintext to be recovered. Hash algorithms are typically used to provide a digital fingerprint of a file's contents, often used to ensure that the file has not been altered by an intruder or virus. Hash functions are also commonly employed by many operating systems to encrypt passwords. Hash functions, then, provide a measure of the integrity of a file.
Hash algorithms that are in common use today include:
1) Message Digest (MD) algorithms : A series of byte-oriented algorithms that produce a 128-bit hash value from an arbitrary-length message.
MD2 : Designed for systems with limited memory, such as smart cards.
MD4 : Developed by Rivest, similar to MD2 but designed specifically for fast processing in software.
MD5 : Also developed by Rivest in 1991 after potential weaknesses were reported in MD4; this scheme is similar to MD4 but is slower because more manipulation is made to the original data.It accepts variable length message from the user and converts it into a fixed 128-bit message digest value.
One interesting and important aspect of the MD5 hash function is that it is a one way algorithm. This means you can produce the 128-bit fingerprint if the data chunk is available to you. You cannot, however, generate the entire data if only the fingerprint of the data is known.
2) Secure Hash Algorithm (SHA) : Algorithm for NIST's Secure Hash Standard (SHS). SHA-1 produces a 160-bit hash value and was originally published as FIPS 180-1 and RFC 3174. FIPS 180-2 describes five algorithms in the SHS: SHA-1 plus SHA-224, SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512 which can produce hash values that are 224, 256, 384, or 512 bits in length, respectively. SHA-224, -256, -384, and -52 are also described in RFC 4634.
3) RIPEMD : A series of message digests that initially came from the RIPE (RACE Integrity Primitives Evaluation) project. RIPEMD-160 was designed by Hans Dobbertin, Antoon Bosselaers, and Bart Preneel, and optimized for 32-bit processors to replace the then-current 128-bit hash functions. Other versions include RIPEMD-256, RIPEMD-320, and RIPEMD-128.
4) HAVAL (HAsh of VAriable Length) : Designed by Y. Zheng, J. Pieprzyk and J. Seberry, a hash algorithm with many levels of security. HAVAL can create hash values that are 128, 160, 192, 224, or 256 bits in length.
5) Whirlpool : A relatively new hash function, designed by V. Rijmen and P.S.L.M. Barreto. Whirlpool operates on messages less than 2256 bits in length, and produces a message digest of 512 bits. The design of this hash function is very different than that of MD5 and SHA-1, making it immune to the same attacks as on those hashes.
6) Tiger : Designed by Ross Anderson and Eli Biham, Tiger is designed to be secure, run efficiently on 64-bit processors, and easily replace MD4, MD5, SHA and SHA-1 in other applications. Tiger/192 produces a 192-bit output and is compatible with 64-bit architectures; Tiger/128 and Tiger/160 produce the first 128 and 160 bits, respectively, to provide compatibility with the other hash functions.

For example, highlighting text with the keyboard and pressing Ctrl + C is much faster than taking your hand from the keyboard, highlighting the text using the mouse, clicking copy from the file menu, and then putting your hand back in place on the keyboard. Below are our top 10 keyboard shortcuts we recommend everyone memorize and use.

Ctrl + C or Ctrl + Insert

Copy the highlighted text or selected item.

Ctrl + V or Shift + Insert

Paste the text or object that's in the clipboard.

Ctrl + Z and Ctrl + Y

Undo any change. For example, if you cut text, pressing this will undo it. This can also often be pressed multiple times to undo multiple changes. Pressing Ctrl + Y would redo the undo.

1. Make A Personal Log-Book or A Diary

Did you know that you can also use Notepad as a simple digital diary or a personal Log-Book ? Well, if you didn’t then follow the below mentioned steps to make one for yourself !

Open Notepad.
Type .LOG (in capital letters) and hit enter.
Save it with any name and close it.
Open it again.

When you open the file again you will see the current date and time being inserted automatically after the .LOG line. This will happen automatically every time you reopen the the notepad file.

2. Shut-down The Computer After Conveying Any Message

This one is kind of an annoying trick and if used unknowingly can certainly cause problems (am serious). What this trick does is, after conveying a (any) message it shuts down the computer without any confirmation. In order to create the Shutdown file, follow the below mentioned steps:

Open Notepad.
Paste the following code in it:

Step 1Download WAMP

Download WAMP server here. Select save or run. Click open. After that follow the next steps.

Selcet "I accept" and Press next.

Select where you want to save it. If you can't decide just leave it as it is. Then press next.

Making Your Own Completely Free Website (And Server)

Who wouldn't like a website of their own?

Even if you don't know what you would use it for, a website, or just a server alone, is something very useful. And fun.

I found myself in need of a website. But not one from a "Create your own website" site. Because it's never your own if you get it from one of those. You either end up with .whatever.com and the end of the URL, or you can bearly change the appearance of the site. You really can't get what you want from one of those.

So, I set off on something I had been planning for a long time. Creating my own, real website.

Step 1What You Need

You don't need a lot to make a server. But some things make it much easier. Here's a list of things you should have to make it much easier, and then a list of basic list of things.

Best List:

An Extra Computer To Use as a Server (Preferably a Desktop)
A Computer Other Then The New Server
Internet (Preferably with wires, but wireless works too)
A Brain (Or Another Brain To Help You Out)

Minimal List:

A Computer
Internet

For my server, I used an old computer built from parts I trash picked.
For a very over used saying, "One mans trash is another mans treasurer" is very true.
Or in this case, one mans trash is another mans website.

Step 2Setting Up A New Server (Or Just Installing A Program)

If your using a computer itself as the server, then you need to set it up. But if your using the computer that you use for everything else as a server, which works too, all you need to do is get ready to install a program and skip to another step.

When most people make a server, they use something like Linux of FreeBSD. I've used both many times, but if your more into the website aspect and not the technology, you can just use plain old Windows. I've used the normal, plain version of Windows XP as a server, and besides some of the annoyances of Windows, it worked fine.

So if you don't already have an Operating System on your soon-to-be server, pick one out and put it on. Almost any will work. Some people even use OS/2 and DOS. And theres even a few servers that are run by the old-but-great Commodore 64. But for that you need instructions other than these.

Step 3More Setting Up (And The Program)

Now that you have an Operating System, your server is almost running. You just need to play with some settings, install a program, and your almost there.

If you have Linux of FreeBSD, you don't really need to change settings. But if you picked Windows, then you have to turn off the annoying security features.

Go into the control panel and find the security options. Make sure you turn off Window's firewall and internet security features. These will block people from accessing the server, which means they can't see your website.
And if you have a firewall program or other virus program installed, which servers really don't need, turn it off or change settings. But really, you can just turn them off.

Now you just need to install a program and you've got your own server.

The program most people and websites use is call Apache. It's a great and easy program that turns a computer into a server with a few clicks of a mouse. If your on windows, find and download Apache's installer. If your on Linux or BSD, all you have to do is type some terminal lines and your on your way to having a website.

Step 4Putting The Website Into The Server

There are a lot of different things you can use to make a website itself. But I like the classic, non fancy HTML.

HTML is easy to use, learn, and can do almost anything you need it to. I found an old book on my shelf about learning HTML, and that helped my with anything I didn't know. Libraries are filled with books on HTML, and luckily for those who don't like reading, most of them are pictures, or flat out what you need. But if you love your computer more then books, then you can always just search some things and get everything you need to know to type some HTML.

When your ready to save the website you just typed, make sure you make the filetype .html . You can do that usually just by typing .html after the name of the file when your saving. But make sure that the main page of your website is called index.html.

Once you have some HTML ready, you need to let Apache know what to show.
On Windows, you can put your site into Apache by going to C:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Apache/htdocs. If your not on Windows, search a little and you'll find where to put your HTML files.

When your in the folder, you should see either one or many HTML files called Index already there. You can delete them. Then, put all of your websites HTML files into the folder. Now your website is on the internet. But not everyone can see it. Yet.

Step 5Wireless Routers

If your like me and you have wireless internet, then you need to do a few more things before people can see your website. But, if you have plain old Ethernet or Dial Up, then you can just skip on to the next part.

If you have a wireless router, it probably has extra space in the back to plug other Ethernet needing things into it. Your server should be plugged in there, and not just using the wireless internet it self. Wireless internet has a tendency to be effected by interference, and you don't want your website randomly going offline. So plug it in, try and avoid a wireless website.

Once it's plugged in, or if your just letting the server go wireless, you probably need to change the security settings in the wireless router. This doesn't mean taking off the password for the internet, it means going in to the box and changing the settings. Which is much easier then it sounds. Just type http://192.168.2.1/ into your browser, and you should see a page come up for your wireless routers settings. Try and turn off any extra security features, including anything about blocking.

Next, if it has the option, go to "Virtual Servers". For this part, you need to know the local IP address of your server. You can find this out by going to command prompt on Windows and typing ipconfig, or by typing ifconfig in the Linux terminal. Look for a set of numbers that looks something like this "192.168.2._", with the _ replaced by a number.

Now, in the virtual server settings section, make an entry that looks like this, with X as the number in your local IP.

After you click enable and Apply Changes, your server should be on the internet for everyone to see. But now it needs a name.

Step 6Name Servers And Tokelau

Every website has a name. And at the end of that name, theres usually a .com, .net or .org. These dot names are part of something called a Name Server, which is a server that directs an internet browser to your website when they type in the name. It translates the name, for example, instructables.com, into something more like this, 76.112.198.45, which is the IP Address.

Without a name server, people would have to remember and enter http://76.112.198.45/ . Which isn't so easy to remember. But with a name server, they just need to know a name and .com or .org. Which makes the internet much more user friendly.

To get your place on a name server, it costs money. Not always a lot of money, but still, it's money. For your website to have a .org name, it costs somewhere around $6.50 and up per year. But there is a name server out there that lets you use it's service for free. As long as you get 25 views every ninety days. Which isn't very hard to do.

This server is .tk . It's the domain for the small, small territory of Tokelau. Tokelau wasn't making very much money, infact, they were making about $500,000 U.S. dollars a year. So, as a way to bring in money, they've been letting people get up to two free spots on their name server, or pay money for even more. But were only interested in the free part.

Step 7Yourwebsite.tk

Now, all you need to do is go to www.dot.tk, and register. When it asks for the website name, pick a name and type it in, then click next. Now ignore the advertisement and click Free Domain. Ignore the part about a "referer URL" and click "Use DNS For This Domain". When
"Use Dot TK Free DNS Service" is selected, something should show up with your websites name in two boxes, and two empty boxes that say IP Address next to them. This is where you enter your IP address, but not the local one from earlier. Now you need a different IP Address.

Go on a website that can give you your IP Address, such as http://whatismyipaddress.com/. When you see a number that looks like this 76.112.198.45, copy it and enter it into the two IP Address boxes on dot.tk. Once you enter the Captcha, your website should be all set.

Enter your new .tk website into the browser. If it loads, then you've got your very own website. If nothing comes up, make sure what you entered on dot.tk was correct, and make sure your server is online and has all security options off.

Step 8Welcome To The Internet

I hope this helped anyone looking to set up their very own website.

There are a lot of Instructables about Apache and websites, but none have all the information in once place, and many of them leave a lot for you to figure out on your own. It took me almost two months to set up a website because I couldn't find all the information I needed. Most people who know how to do things right with computers like to laugh at other people, instead of help them.

I know some people are probably stuck somewhere, and I'm sorry about that. Just take a minute to sit back and think, and then look over everything you've done once more. You should be able to fix any problems on your own. The internet is much simpler then people make it out to be.

Make Your Computer Into A Server in 10 Minutes (free software)

This covers how to quickly set up your computer (running Windows) as a server. This will allow you to host your own website from your computer and will let you to make web pages with 'buttons' allowing you to control things in your home (robots, cameras, etc) from the internet future
We'll be using apache: very popular, free, open source server software.

While making your computer into a server will be very quick, you should read through the Apache http server software documentation to learn about how to set it up securely (so that people don't hack into your computer). I'll give this advice but read elsewhere for more:
1) best to install this server software on an old computer that you don't use for anything other than as a server.
2) best to create a seperate user account in windows with limited system access and install this software in that account.

If you want to do this on linux instead of windows (more secure, slightly more complicated) the best combination would be puppy linux and xamp for the server software. Puppy linux can be loaded off a usb jump drive or a CD, so you don't need to uninstall windows, just boot the computer with one of those. Here's easy setup videos for puppy linux: http://rhinoweb.us/

Step 1Download Apache Server Software

Download the apache http server software from this apache mirror site:

http://www.reverse.net/pub/apache/httpd/binaries/win32/
_Or_ go to http://www.apache.org/, navigate to the download from mirrors page, pick a mirror and download from there. As you can see from the above link, you'll want to navigate to the mirror's apache, httpd, binaries, win32 folder.

What To Download:
= You should download the newest version (highest version number), it's 2.2.6 as I type this. Check here to see what the newest version is if you want: http://httpd.apache.org/
= You want the .msi file, this is a windows installation file (like an .exe)

Step 2Install It

Double click the .msi file you just downloaded, it will install, use the default settings, typical install (unless you want the source code, then do custom install).

It should automatically fill in some form boxes with your DNS server name (in my case it was earthlink.net) during the installation.
for server name, put whatever you want, I don't think spaces are allowed though. and make sure after your name you have .earthlink.net (or whatever DNS name is).
for email, put in your email (or don't doesn't matter much).

Step 3Run It

Once it's installed I think it starts the server running right away. You can see if it's running by looking for the icon in the lower right of your task bar (see pic). If it's not running and you want to start it, or stop it, just navigate in your start menu (see pic).

if you get an error message when you try to start the server write down the error# and look it up in the documentation or google.

Step 4Test It

Test it out, when you're sure the server is running open a web browser and type:
http://localhost
into the address bar, this should show up (see pic).

Siropa row: Suspend IG, says Cong

Just as the hullabaloo over jail officials touching Bibi Jagir Kaur’s feet had died down, the authorities have courted yet another controversy with Jagjit Singh, IG (Jails), receiving a siropa from Bibi at a religious programme at the Kapurthala Modern jail yesterday.

The Bibi has been getting a VVIP treatment ever since she was jailed on March 30 after she was held guilty of kidnapping her daughter and forcing her to undergo abortion. Throughout the programme yesterday, in which over 1,000 jail inmates recited Sukhmani Sahib, the IG reportedly sat alongside Bibi. At the end of the programme, the IG, Jail Superintendents SP Khanna and Karamjit Singh Sandhu and Deputy Jail Superintendent Iqbal Singh received a siropa from her.
While the Congress Legislature Party Leader Sunil Jakhar has demanded the suspension of the IG, the latter says he has done no wrong. “What is wrong with receiving a siropa from Bibi? A convict now, she has been the head of an institution. Besides, we have been holding such programmes for a peaceful atmosphere inside jails,” he explained.
Jakhar and former Congress MLA Sukhpal Khaira, in a press note, has condemned the incident. “A convict, Bibi Jagir Kaur was not only allowed to address a gathering of officials, visitors and fellow convicts, but also had the audacity to bestow a siropa on senior jail officials.
“This incident not only reflects a breakdown of the jail machinery, but also indicates how criminals rule the roost in Punjab jails. It was this very IG who had given a clean chit to Bibi in an inquiry held three months back to determine if VIP treatment was being given to her while in jail.
“Now, in order to return the favour, Bibi Jagir Kaur has honoured him with a siropa,” the Congress leaders alleged.
They said it was common knowledge that Bibi Jagir Kaur, besides enjoying other facilities in jail, had access to mobile phone services. She regularly called up Kapurthala district officials and those at Chandigarh. “She continues to hold a ‘daily darbar’ at the air-conditioned visitors’ room adjacent to the Jail Superintendent’s office, where she spends most part of the day,” the leaders said.
However, the Jail Superintendent said: “Bibi honoured us with a siropa for curing 900 inmates of their addiction. On an average, we get 10 new inmates daily, of whom at least two are addicts.”

Punjabi flavour : 23 students to dance to Bhangra beats at Olympics

The London Olympics are still 11 days away, but 23 schoolchildren from Punjab have already won their game. They, along with a girl from a Chandigarh school, have made it to the final league of 100 children selected for representing the nation during a cultural extravaganza at the mega sporting event beginning later this month.

As expected, ‘bhangra’ is the pick from the region and these children, students of Gems Cambridge International School in Hoshiarpur and Cambridge School in Batala, would be dancing to the beats of ‘dhol’.
Among the participants are Aditi Vashishth, Akashdeep Singh, Anchal, Bhupinder Singh, Divya Gupta, Gurpreet, Harkaran Singh, Harmanpreet Sodhi, Harpreet Singh, Hitika Vassal, Kuber Sharma, Manipal, Manjot, Parveen Garg, Raghav Vassal, Rahul Gupta, Uttkarsh, Sanjeev Sood, Vidit Gupta, Yadwinder Singh, Aachman Shekar and Rajni Gupta.
The Chandigarh student is Asmita Chibbar, from Strawberry World in Sector 26, who would be playing the role of ‘Bharat Mata’. A Chennai-based company, Space Kids India, has partnered with a Chandigarh firm, iMatrix, for selecting the ‘bhangra’ team. Space Kids was entrusted the job by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG). Space Kids is accredited with the LOCOG.
Rohit Shekhar Sharma, CEO of iMatrix World Wide, said, “These students will be performing in the “Main Band Stand” on July 30 and August 2. The team has earlier performed at several international events, particularly at NASA in the US.”
Sharma said the children are on cloud nine as they have got rare chance of representing the country at an international mega event.
Space Kidz director K Srimathy said more than 500 organisations had applied for representing the country at the Olympics. Apart from ‘bhangra’, performances from India would feature ‘bharatnatyam’ and ‘kathak’.
Gems Cambridge International School principal Pawan Vashishst said, “Our children have been regularly performing in various national and international events. Our team got selected on account of words of appreciation we have received from international organisations. Getting selected surely was not an easy job going by the number of applicants received for the event.”
