Where Have I Been?

Today I opened up my browser and decided to clean up my bookmarks and organize my digital life a little. I clicked on the little icons to see what each one was, then suddenly I clicked the little orange "B" and remembered that I used to blog... WHOA! Where has life gone! 2013 doesn't seem like 2 years ago... I didn't realize my life was going by so fast that I didn't even take a second to share it on my "website". What a FAIL!

I am not really sure how to pick back up on here... Do I just go on like I never left? Do I try to recap what has happened over the past couple years? Do I just delete this and start over? Do I just leave this little space here to die alone? I don't know what to do... So I am going to do a little bit of the same old thing with some recaps of the past. I have been posting a million things on Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest but haven't showed it here so I will post some oldies for me but newbies for you.

I am excited to revisit this place and maybe find something new for myself. Hopefully fall in love with blogging again.

Noah & I's phone renewal is coming up and I cannot wait!!

We are planning on getting the Samsung Galaxy S4, so of course I am already shopping for sweet cases to protect it. Last night while hunting on eBay and Etsy I found so many awesome cases I had to share! Check out the cuteness!

I was so pumped to find such a variety of cases because normally all the cases I want they only make for iPhone :( nothing against iPhone but it's no fun to see an adorable case that doesn't fit your own phone. I pinned a MILLION super cute pieces over on Pinterest on my Sweet Samsung Cases Board! So for those Samsung girls and guys out there be sure and check it out! DIY Geometric or Stripe Statement Wall, Let's Get Wild!

I am going to start this post by saying I FREAKING LOVE PINTEREST!!!!!

Ok, I can start now :) I recently discovered an AHmazing blog through Pinterest. I have been on this woman's blog nonstop for the past week! The blog is called Gorgeous Shiny Things by Danika Herrick, and I must say she is fantastic!! She is my long lost sister, it is so weird when you find someone online that has the same thoughts as you, not to mention the same style!! Anyway I will stop fangirling over her... :)

Her blog has jump started my energy for working on the house, I was getting discouraged and frustrated, struggling to finish a project. But since checking out her blog a week ago I have finished 3 projects off my list!! Woop Woop! She changes her house all the time, nothing is permanent and it gave me the comfort that if I don't like what I do I can change it. Our lives and style is everchanging so I should expect that to reflect in my home. Not only did this blog get me working it gave me so many ideas I plan to do in my own house! Check out my plan :)

Living Room Project

DIY Striped Ceiling

She did her kitchen so great and the ceiling is just frosting on the cake! So elegant and interesting. I decided I needed some fun like this in my life! So the plan is to do the living room ceiling just like this, except make the stripes a little wider.

After brewing over this a couple days I thought wait a minute... how am I going to actually do this? I suck at putting tape up on the wall straight, what am I thinking? Are you crazy girl? I chilled out from my mini-panic attack and got to Googling. I found a great tutorial on how to stripe your ceiling over at Googiemamma blog.

She has great pictures and good tips :)

Dining Room Project

DIY Geometric Wall

In her always-changing office, at one point she had this awesome geo pattern painted on her wall, I must say it is so cool! I have really been drooling over those 3D wall panels since seeing them on Kara Paslay Designs Blog. But the price for them is just too much for the size wall I want to do. I have been looking to find a cheap alternative that looks super duper cool.

I really think Danika's wall has a great 3D aspect to it but doesn't break the bank!

My plan is to do my main dining room wall in this same pattern but in gray & black monotone colors, to match the counters & cabinets we plan to update. Luckily she explains with great detail the best techniques to complete this project and so be sure and check out this post!

A moment of realization at the kitchen sink.

While painting my living room this past weekend I was jamming out to Pandora and fell upon a beautiful song, India Arie's "There's Hope". I was washing my paint brushes in the kitchen and she sang "He said, what's it like in the USA, and all I did was complain, He said - livin' here is paradise, He taught me paradise is in your mind, You know that". When I heard that the phrase just rang through my mind, the light bulb came flickering on. This made me think no matter where I go, where I work, who I am with, I will always have the same mind, things aren't going to change if I move some place different, I am not going to find happiness some place else, the only place happiness or paradise can be found is within my own mind.

After the song finished I stood by the sink, my mind spinning, thinking of all the times I had been mean or hurtful because I thought things weren't right, how all I wanted was to be someplace else and how selfish that was. I realized that happiness is MY choice, which means to me that I am no longer going to be petty. I am no longer going to fume over the dirty dishes in the sink, the pile of clothes in the bedroom, the recycle overflowing, why sacrifice my paradise for these trivial things? Why be filled with frustration at my husband? Those things just aren't important.

I married the man of my DREAMS, LITERALLY! Many many years ago I prayed the most important prayer of my life, asking God to bring Noah and I's hearts together, to have him see me, to feel my love, I promised God if he was mine I would cherish him forever and always hold him in my heart. He is one of my life's greatest blessings and I am ashamed to say too often I forget that. I go crazy over life's mundane things in an attempt for "peaceful paradise" but now I realize paradise isn't where you live or how you live it's how you think. I am challenging myself to remember that I am walking on a perfect beach with my best friend by my side every day in my mind.

Grown Woman Problems, The Drama of Decorating

As time passes, my style evolves and changes causing me to change my surroundings (like most people). I have come to realize there is a difference between what I like and what I have. I am struggling with implementing my true style. True style??? What does that even mean? Let me explain.

I have a distinct style I lean towards, when I redo other people's spaces I can really reflect that style, but in my own home I fail to let that show. In the beginning it starts out great but as time goes by things get worse, moving further away from where I want it to be. My husband has helped me discover the main culprit that is cramping my style, it is all my STUFF!! Over the years I have collected things that I have become attached to, most of these items are not particularly nice or original but I have been holding on to them FOREVER. You know, that knick knack so-and-so gave you a million years ago that is SO important. I sadly have so so SO many of these :(

I often stew over making my home look a certain way (modern, clutter less, decorated) but all the while fearing that I may lose something special, causing things to look like everyone else's homes... boring, unoriginal and I just can't deal with that! I want to create a shrine to our life, showing off our collections while still being cozy and livable. Since being married for 5 years and moving about 5 times I have learned to pare down by getting rid of a lot. I have been really proud of myself, each move I donate more stuff. But this last move has been particularly hard, I made the promise to myself that I would bring my Casa Ideas Pinterest board to life in my own home (Check out the board here!)No more drooling over other people's beautiful homes online, I want to drool over my own place! I vowed to not get caught in the past and move forward to a new sexy adult lifestyle, to be proud of my surroundings and to not clutter it up!

But the truth is hard! I created this master plan with budgets, photos, floor plans for our new place and all was good until I opened up my décor boxes and found there wasn't a place for all the things in it... I couldn't put everything out and make it look the way I planned. Which means I have to get rid of stuff... NNNNNOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! In my epic planning I forgot about all things I already had, all the little items that have collected into a random mass. Now I am charged to figure out how to achieve my home goals and not cry over little things.

Luckily over the weekend I had a small victory :) I finished one small corner of my house. It is painted and decorated just to my liking and I am really really proud of it! I am going to ride on this glory to the next project and hopefully not stop until my house is AMAZING!!

DIY Waxed Canvas Bag, Will Leather Goods Look-A-Like

While on vacation in San Diego last week I found a fabulous bag that I wanted really bad! The bright colors and leather straps made it perfect for me, however the price was not! At $95 I felt I could save some dough and totally make this!

After very minimal research I found some awesome tutorials!! So many that I am confident my bag is going to turn out perfect, I am planning on working on it this weekend but just couldn't wait to blog about it! Let's get started!

First things first, find some cool cotton fabric or plain canvas. Like many of you I have TONS of fabric hanging out in my studio, I am fighting the urge to buy more! I have some cool cheap Ikea fabric I really like and some DIY watercolor fabric I made, I haven't decided which one to use yet but both would work!

Rachael of Transient Expression has made a fantastic tutorial on how to make a bag just like this. She breaks down each step so wonderfully! Frankly, she has tons of amazing tutorials (I am now obsessed with her blog!) I want to make everything! Check this lady out, girl has style!

Step 1 Sewing the Bag

Check out Transient Expression's great instructions on how to sew the bag. INSTRUCTIONS HERE!

Step 2 Make the Leather Straps

There are a few different ways to make leather straps, you can use thin leather and sew them to a backing to accent your bag or you can use thick leather that is cut into desired thickness. Either way will work great!

Both techniques are easy and use limited tools :)

Step 3 Attach the Straps

Transient Expressions Leather Strap Tutorial

Again Transient Expression has a super easy tutorial on how to rivet the straps to the bag, she put them right on the edge of the bag. I am planning however to attach mine a little lower to mimic the Will Bag more closely.

Step 4 Waxing the Bag

To wax the canvas or cotton use a mixture of paraffin and bees wax. There a couple ways in which to apply the wax both work well. I found a couple good videos to show you the options.

I am planning to use this tutorial to make my wax and use the below tutorial to apply my wax bars.

This above video uses store bought wax bar and rubs it in while in bar form. What is nice about this is you are less likely to burn yourself and don't have to worry about melting the wax in a double boiler. The downside, however, is waterproofing wax is a little pricey.

This video is a little lengthy but has great tips on really getting the wax into the fabric! I found it on Lifehacker, if you didn't already know, that website is the greatest!

Step 5 You're Done!

DIY Duct Tape Wallet UPDATE

I was checking out my Google Analytics today and found that my most popular post on my blog is my DIY Duct Tape Wallet post. After checking out the post I noticed I never posted pictures of the finished projects :) So check them out!

After using the Crafty Nest tutorial, that I needed to add a strap to keep it closed. So I made it the same way they body is made and attached it with more tape.

I gave these as Christmas presents to all the guys in my life and they were a HUGE hit! The young and old were so stoked to have a one of a kind creation. Also I made these back in 2011 and many of them are still being used today. Overtime they have gotten a little sticky but we do live in Phoenix (it gets up to 119 degrees in the summer).

I made this one for my husband, it used the inside of a cheap calculator as an accent. It always is a conversation starter and is really unique.

The Velcro stayed nicely with it's own adhesive and didn't ever pull up.

I got inspiration to add so style to my wallets from Jduct, her wallets are very intricate with lots of images & logos. I wanted to do this but ran out of time, so I did a simple striping pattern and they turned out really cool.

This walled is my favorite! I am most proud of this one because it turned out exactly how I wanted. It was a gift for my little sister and she was so happy with it. The coin purse was a little difficult but ended up being totally worth it.

After making so many wallets, I found that buying the sheets of duct tape to do the body of the wallet makes a better quality product and last much longer.

I did end up making a few more woman's wallets and I just love them! I need to make one for myself one of these days!

Easy DIY Independence Day Clothes!

I love love love patriotic clothes for 4th of July! As I know many other people do! Whip up something awesome/affordable/original for everyone in your family before Thursday!! You Can Do It!

Ever since I was a kid my mom would buy us matching Old Navy flag shirts, it always made me smile, thinking we are team AMERICA! LOL :) But as I got older and saw so many other families supporting America the same way, I was tired of them. It is so easy to make unique patriotic clothes for almost nothing! When I went on the hunt to find a good project there were so many options that made me a little overwhelmed. So I had to share my experience with a couple great tutorials I tried out last year, with a few tweaks of my own.

No Sew, 4th of July Tank!

These 2 tutorials have great instructions and fantastic pictures, please check them out! They helped my process so much!

Star Spangled Hoodie

As I am not a big fan of tank tops or hoodies I wanted to put my own spin on these awesome tutorials! So I bought us girls cute plain white v-neck t shirts that fit us the way we liked. I didn't want to use fabric dyes or spray paint as they are super messy and have lots of fumes. I decided to use watered down $0.88 acrylic craft paint and put it in old spray bottles (body spray ones work best) instead! This project could literally cost you nothing if you have a white shirt and paint at home! Woop woop I love FREE!! It worked perfectly, I washed our shirts tons of times and they didn't bleed. They still look awesome!

Also around this time last year I got the itch to buy so adorable glittery American flag shorts from Forever 21 but didn't want to spend $30! So I used the Freezer Paper Screen Printing tutorial to make our awesome glitter shorts!! They turned out really nicely and have also lasted! As a note Noah's shirt had some bleeding issues since his shirt was too thin. The watery paint got everywhere but I used a sharpie and made it look grungie. Noah really liked it and got tons of compliments on it at work. So don't freak out if things get crazy just go with it!

These projects took only a few hours to complete, I made 4 shirts and 3 shorts, you can totally pull these off last minute and look fabulous!! Get crafting!

I am ALIVE!!!!!

I don't know what I have been doing the last 6 months that has kept me from blogging! My brain has been so preoccupied with my new position at work, our new house :) and just drama that my blog got simply forgotten. I am so sad for it too! I have had so many things happen that I have wanted to share and projects I want to do but the only place that has been getting any attention other than my work email is my Pinterest. I am going to avoid my usual epic planned post laying out what I want to do, which I do none of. I am just going to say I am going through a weird/awesome changing period in my life, which will result in many amazing things that I will be sharing ;)

DIY Holiday Gift Wrapping

It is just always difficult to find bows that go with my wrapping paper. Well look no more! This project doesn't have a tutorial but the pictures are very easy to follow. I thought, initially, that this could be done in wrapping paper that is not the case. You should use felt or even faux leather. This box is more for permanent use and reuse.

Redesign Myself? My Blog?

I have recently been mulling over the idea of rebranding myself

as an artist and a blogger.

I have long admired my creative/business style as artistic, unique and free form. But as time goes on I feel like it has really become scatterbrained, cluttered and confusing.

I know what I am thinking but am I really properly conveying my thoughts/ideas?

Do you know what the heck I am trying to say?

and the answer to me is uuummmm.... I don't know

which freaks me out.

If I can't tell if my website is simple and easy to navigate

and I can't tell what my main mission is

how they heck can I expect my readers and clients to do the same???

Enough Ranting!

Here is what my goal is for this week.

I need to answer a few questions to find my path..

What is the true purpose of my blog?

Is it to sell products? Is it for tutorials?

Should I create 2 websites?

Is my website about me or about my creations?

Should it be about me?

Should I incorporate my personal life in my website?

Do I need a brand name/logo?

Am I creating a true and accurate reflection of my artistic process and mind?

Here is where you (my friends/family/readers) come in, I would like some input from people who know me well and or read my blog. What do you like about my website, what do you hate? Are the questions that I have asked myself the right ones? Should I have more? and the most important, can you help me answer some of these questions?

DIY $7 Sunburst Mirror!!!

I am sure you, like me, have been drooling over all those awesome sunburst mirrors on Pinterest and keep saying "I can make that!" Well finally, after months and months I made one!!!! And I must say it is beautiful! Plus it cost under $10 bucks!! Can't beat that!

Items You will need:

1. 2 packs bamboo skewers ($2 each @ the grocery store)

2. Hot glue & glue gun (Free had in my office)

3. Small round mirror ($5 @ Michaels)

4. Round piece of cardboard the same size as your mirror (Free in your junk pile XD)

5. Spray paint (I used left over paint from the shed)

Total Cost $7

I decided not to take progress pictures of mine just because Stephanie Lynn over at Under The Table and Dreaming did such an amazing job with her tutorial! The steps are super easy to follow and the pictures are great! I did do a few things different to mine which I will show you!

Helpful Notes:

1. I started out cutting each skewer with scissors and it was taking forever, I found I could just break them by hand just as nicely and it is way faster. Just hold it between your two thumbs where you need it to break and bend it back and forth. Boom you're done!

2. Don't stress the spacing. I was getting a little OCD about how perfect they need to be but in the end you couldn't even tell which ones weren't perfect.

3. Get creative with paint. Don't stop with one color of spray paint, I decided to do an ombre look but there are so many other possibilities.

Once I finished my mirror I decided it would be a great raffle prize for my annual family reunion, plus my grandma was begging me to bring one. So sadly this isn't part of my beautiful asian bedroom but I know it's new owner is in love with it!

I am bummed that I didn't remember to get a finished on the wall picture :(

I really loved how this turned out and how easy it was. I am definitely going to make another one for my bedroom!

Weekend Work List

Since moving into the new place my "To Do List" seems to get longer and longer. It is now to the point where I am not doing anything out of sheer fear of the list. So I decided to just pick 10 things to do each weekend, I don't have to complete them all, but I have to complete at least 5. I think this will be an awesome way for me to stay productive at home and to get it together.

1. Paint bedroom wall

2. Finish sunburst mirror (paint gold)

3. Hang curtains in master bathroom

4. Install shower curtain rod

5. Take boxes to goodwill

6. Put storage stuff in new tubs

7. Hang up laundry

8. Paint Josh's room

9. Pot patio plants

10. Buy shower curtain and towels.

4. Upholstery Pin Wall Writing Art

I found this picture on Pinterest without a link to a tutorial but it is a very simple project. Just check out DaFont.com and find a cool simple font you like (a script typeface would be best). Download and install the font, type up what you want your wall to say on Word using your new font. Make sure to set it up how you want it to look on Word. Next, instead of just printing it to 1 page do a "poster" print. This allows you to chose how enlarged you want your text to be. Tape together the papers to make your poster and then tape to wall you want. Most likely you should do a word at a time and just poke holes in the paper and wall with a large pin or needle then move the paper and put the pins in the holes.

I feel like that is hard to visualize, so when I do this I will take some pictures to help it make sense for you to use.

Pinterest Obsession!

Late to the trend, a couple months ago I found out about the website Pinterest. I was interested in the idea of a bulletin board style or more visual style to keep track of my bookmarks. After finally getting someone to send me an invite I was off! Uploading, pinning and repining. This girl just couldn't stop!

I spend hours surfing the internet everyday and I always come across cool stuff I want to save or blog about so I bookmark it. The problem with that is I forget about it and 3 months later I am going through my bookmarks and re-find it and claim I am going to blog about it, and then I forget. A vicious cycle >:( but with Pinterest I can have image catalog of all the things I am into and easily keep them separated.

For example I have a secret nerd life of video games, Star Wars and what not. But I obviously love home decor, fashion, beauty and DIY. I like that I can keep all my interests organized and in one place easily without having to mix them.

I am looking forward to doing a weekly post with my top 10 favorite pins.

Asian Master Bedroom!!!

For many years I have been dreaming of an Asian themed bedroom, but I never could make a decision on colors, furniture, or flat out just didn't have the money. Well now that we have found a new amazing place I thought this would be the best time to have my dream bedroom!

Our current place has lots of space, high ceilings and beautiful lighting. I want to accent the height of the ceiling with an amazing headboard. Of course I want to make this headboard, but it is still in the works! As a matter of fact, I have been "making" this headboard for several months A.K.A. it has been living under my bed :) My husband thinks I will never finish it, so I obviously bet him $100 I would finish it by the end of the month... sometimes I can't keep myself out of trouble. But anyway, I have a few ideas for the current creation I have now but I do want to make a few modifications.

In the world of headboards there are just so many things I love and so many things I want my headboard to have. Like beautiful fabric, storage space, amazing wood, romantic back lighting and a refrigerator (lol just kidding). My goal is to find a beautiful solution that fits all my wants.

I love the color purple and have used it in my homes before but never in the bedroom. I have always loved having a romantic red bedroom but feel like purple can bring just as much passion and romance as red. Various shades of purple will be the main color but definitely some red accents.

I am excited to get back to blogging and sharing the adventures of own new place! Stay tuned for more awesome home gorgeousness!!

Goals for Twenty Twelve! Part 1

This year I have a ton on my plate with the new job, new car, new bills so I really need to get myself on track!

So I figured if I write them down in black and white I will be committed! I am going to be specific and small to ensure I am successful with these projects, because just like everyone else you have big dreams and no time to get them done, then you are bummed because you never get finished. This is going to be the first part of my 20twelve goals, here goes!

1. Organize Office/Studio

{get rid of what I don't need, clear off my desk, throw away old paint,

find a file cabinet for all my papers, dust, put away unused items}

2. Make Time to Paint and ACTUALLY PAINT!

3. Donate Old Clothes & Shoes

4. Cook Dinner Twice a Week

{If you know me you know I hate cooking, well let me rephrase that, I hate getting up the nerve to cook. Once I start cooking, I love it! I am going to just cook 2 dinners a week for starters!}

5. Do Laundry Every Week

{That's right I am going to tackle that huge monster in my closet known as LAUNDRY!!}

The Playboy Club...Cancelled!

I am sure I am pretty late on this topic, but I have to talk about it! So about 2 months ago my husband and I decided we were going to cancel our TV service since we NEVER watched it. We literally paid 80 bucks a month for it to just sit there. There are a few shows I like to watch, but I am never home when they are on so I just watch them on Hulu the next day. We just rock the Hulu and Netflix apps on our TV and I love how cheap it is! But back to the topic :) I recently was surfing around on Hulu and found The Playboy Club show and was like, "Hmmm that could be interesting." I decided I would watch the pilot to just "check it out", that ended up with me watching all the episodes they had! I was totally hooked and loving everything about the show. The look, the story, the characters....I was just eating it up and dying to know when it would come on again.

Then today I am playing on the computer and I come across a photo of the show that was cool so I decided to Google some more and I discovered that the show is CANCELLED! WTF! Because it was too controversial...I think the crime shows are way worse than that! They didn't even show anything nor was there many suggestive scenes. I am super disappointed in NBC! They totally ruined my new excitement for TV. So I guess this means I really just should not watch TV, because every thing I really like gets cancelled :( LAME

So to commemorate an awesome show I found so cool pictures from the real Playboy Club to enjoy!
