Likewise, coming up with an all-new "aspirational" name does not do justice to what we are trying to achieve, which is to stay firmly rooted in our aspirations for Windows Vista, while evolving and refining the substantial investments in platform technology in Windows Vista into the next generation of Windows."

"The mouse, which was built by Bill English, helped Dr Engelbart demonstrate how text files could be clipped, copied and pasted as well as showing ways of using computer networks to collaborate on projects or co-edit documents. Dr Rulifson joined the group that Dr Engelbart assembled at the Stanford Research Institute in California after meeting the charismatic engineer while attending the FJCC in 1965.

Dr Engelbart wanted computers to act as helpers that augmented human intelligence and enabled people to operate far more efficiently and productively than they would without such tools.

The 1968 demonstration showed off the computer system, called NLS, developed to put these ideas into practical form."

CNet are suggesting that Microsoft are due to release an RC version of Internet Explorer early next year:

"Microsoft plans to offer one more public test version of Internet Explorer 8 before releasing the final version of the updated browser, the company said late Wednesday.

The next test, essentially a "release candidate" version will come in the first quarter of 2009. That means the final release won't hit Microsoft's initial goal of finishing the browser this year.

"Our next public release of IE (typically called a "release candidate") indicates the end of the beta period," general manager Dean Hachamovitch said in a blog posting. "We want the technical community of people and organizations interested in Web browsers to take this update as a strong signal that IE8 is effectively complete and done.""

Tips Update Antivirus AVG

Beberapa teman yang menggunakan AVG Anti Virus, mungkin mengalami kesulitan ketika mau update AVG. Atau sudah download update, tetapi ketika di klik update, muncul pesan bahwa tidak ditemukan update-nya, sehingga Internal Virus Database Out of date. Berikut penjelasan untuk update AVG Anti Virus.

Bagi Pengguna Online

Jika pengguna online, maka proses update sangat mudah. Seperti sebagian besar anti virus, AVG akan mengupdate sendiri. Defaultnya, AVG akan mengupdate setiap hari, mulai jam 08.00 sampai jam 09.59. Akan dicek apakah ada update terbaru. Jika ada maka file update akan didownload secara otomatis. kKrena proses update setiap hari, maka prosesnya akan sangat cepat, biasanya hanya beberapa KB saja dan memerlukan waktu yang singkat, kadang kurang dari 1 menit. Untuk merubah atau mengatur setting update otomatis ini, caranya :

Buka AVG, pilih komponen Scheduler
Klik Tombol Scheduled Task
dan Pilih Update plain in Basic Mode, dan Klik Edit Schedule
Disana bisa diatur mengenai update otomatis ini

Bagi Pengguna Offline (manual Update)

Jika tidak terhubung internet, maka sebelumnya kita perlu download file update yang telah disediakan. Bisa download dari alamat http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download-update-7 di bagian Priority updates. Disana disediakan beberapa update yang bisa kita pilih.

Tetapi sebelumnya kita harus mengenali versi AVG yang ada di komputer kita. Untuk mengetahuinya, buka AVG ( double klik icon avg yang ada di systray ( biasanya pojok kanan bawah), dan perhatikan keterangan di status bar programnya. Seperti contoh berikut :

Setelah diketahui versi program dan database, maka kita buka alamat web untuk download file update yang diperlukan. Tampilannya seperti berikut (Priority Upedate) :

Berikut penjelasannya

Bagian 1,2,3 dan 4 untuk mengupdate program AVG menjadi versi sesuai yang ditampilkan. Misalnya no 1 untuk mengupdate program AVG ( semua modul) menjadi versi 7.5.516. Khusus no 3 merupakajn update untuk Linux. Jika AVG anda versinya dibawah 7.5.516 maka sebaiknya download juga update nomor 1, nomor 2 dan 4 tidak perlu.
Update 5,6 dan 7 untuk mengupdate Database virus menjadi versi 269.19.20. Ini bisa disesuaikan dengan versi database virus pada program AVG yang ada dikomputer kita. Jika versi database virus lebih dari 269.0.0 dan kurang dari 269.19.0, maka download update nomor 6. Jika versinya sudah 269.19.0 atau diatasnya, maka cukup download nomor 5 ( yang berukuran paling kecil ). Sebaliknya jika versi virus database dibawah 269.0.0 maka download nomor 7.
Untuk update IAVI ( nomor 8 ) mempunyai ukuran yang paling besar. Jika release terakhir adalah update ini, maka agar AVG update ke versi terakhir, memang harus download file ini. Seperti tampilan diatas, update nomor 5,6, dan 7 hanya sampai tanggal 4 februari 2008, sedangkan nomor 8 sudah sampai tanggal 5 februari 2008.

Setelah file update ( berakhiran *.bin) sudah berhasil di download, maka langkah update dapat dilakukan sebagai berikut:

Buka AVG, pilih Komponen Anti-Virus
Klik Tombol Update, kemudian dari window yang muncul, klik tombol folder. dan cari dimana lokasi file yang telah kita download tadi. Maka akan muncul pesan bahwa Update baru telah ditemukan, dan muncul konfirmasi apakah akan diupdate, maka pilih Yes.
Maka proses update akan berlangsung, tunggu sampai selesai

Keterangan

Jika ketika di klik tombol Update, AVG langsung mencoba update ke Internet, dan tidak ditampilkan pilihan apakah kita akan update langsung melalui Internet atau folder, maka bisa settingnya perlu diubah. Caranya pilih Komponen Update Manager ( di tampilan utama AVG ) dan klik tombol Properties. Hilangkan check di opsi Do not ask for the update source, kemudian klik Apply. Dan ulangi proses update.

Optional Update

Optional update diperlukan untuk mengupdate komponen selain database virus. Misalnya perbaikan program, perubahan atau tambahan lainnya. Jika database virus AVG sudah diupdate, tetapi icon AVG masih belum menandakan update (icon masih hitam/abu-abu), maka mungkin perlu download Optional update ini. Kedua prosesor ini menggabungkan komponen berteknologi terbaru dari Intel, antara lain lima prosesor Intel Core 2 Duo dengan teknologi proses 45 Nanometer, chipset terbaru Mobile Intel 45 Express, Intel WiFi Link seri 5000, serta koneksi jaringan Gigabit Intel 82567.

Prosesor Intel Core 2 Duo dengan teknologi proses 45 Nanometer memiliki kinerja inti ganda namun efisien dalam penggunaan energinya. Menurut Country Manager Intel Indonesia, Budi Wahyu Jati, jika performa meningkat, biasanya penggunaan energi juga lebih besar.

"Tapi dengan Intel Centrino 2, di saat performa meningkat, penggunaan baterai justru lebih hemat," ujarnya. Dari rata-rata kebutuhan 35 watt, dengan Intel Centrino 2, kebutuhannya turun jadi 25 watt. "Baterai laptop cukup diisi ulang sekali sehari," Budi menambahkan.

Selain hemat energi (masuk dalam kategori Energy Star atau ramah lingkungan), Prosesor Intel Centrino 2 juga memakai teknologi Green Computing sejak awal. Pembuatannya tidak menggunakan timbal dan halogen. "Halogen menyebabkan pencemaran udara. Intel Centrino 2 tidak memakai Halogen," tutur Budi.

Sementara itu, chipset Mobile Intel 45 Express akan meningkatkan kualitas video secara dramatis, yakni tiga kali lebih baik dibanding kinerja grafis 3D-nya. Chipset ini meningkatkan kinerja compressing video definisi standar hingga lebih dari 80%, dan mencapai 90% untuk video definisi tinggi.

Dilengkapi port HDMI, laptop tinggal dikoneksikan ke televisi untuk memutar film-film cakram DVD definisi tinggi. "Tidak usah repot mencari pemutar video definisi tinggi," ujar Budi.

Pada acara peluncuran di Cafe X2 Plaza Senayan, Jakarta itu, pihak Intel Indonesia memutar video dan memainkan games dengan laptop berbasis Intel Centrino 2, dan membandingkan tampilan gambarnya dengan tampilan pada laptop berbasis prosesor terdahulu.

Dengan Intel Centrino 2, gambar jauh lebih jernih. Proses streaming video juga lebih cepat. Saat menampilkan game, kualitas grafis yang dihasilkan jauh lebih baik. Misalnya grafis air, di layar tampak lebih sesuai aslinya.

Adapun teknologi Intel WiFi Link seri 5000 akan memberi kecepatan dan jangkauan lebih dalam koneksi Wireless-N. Teknologi Intel WiFi Link 5300 adalah WLAN adapter pertama di dunia yang memberi bandwidth jaringan mencapai 450 megabit per detik (Mbps). Sedangkan WiFi Link 5100 memberi bandwidth jaringan hingga 300 Mbps.

Menurut Budi, saat meluncurkan Intel Centrino pada 2003 lalu masih sedikit hot spot WiFi yang tersedia. Penjualan desktop PC pun jauh lebih unggul dibanding notebook. Kini di Amerika Serikat, jumlah penjualan notebook melebihi desktop.

"Kita kini melangkah ke teknologi hiburan definisi tinggi, online gaming, broadband wireless kecepatan tinggi, serta pengaturan bisnis yang lebih mudah dan aman," tutur Budi. Semua ini ada di Prosesor Intel Centrino 2. Regional Manager Intel, Sujan Kamran, menyebut produk ini sebagai "revolusi terbaru teknologi laptop".

JAKARTA - Menjelang akhir tahun, distributor tunggal produk Canon di Indonesia, PT Datascrip, merilis enam model printer multifungsi, tiga model, printer fungsi tunggal, dan tiga model scanner terbaru.

Kehadiran produk-produk itu diharapkan mampu memperkuat posisi Canon dalam persaingan di pasar printer dan scanner di Indonesia. Printer-printer multifungsi terbaru Canon adalah PIXMA MP- 988 (USD380), PIXMA MP- 638 (USD260), PIXMA MP- 628 (USD260), PIXMA MP- 545 (USD205), PIXMA MP- 486 (USD155), dan PIXMA MP245 (USD125).

Adapun sejumlah printer fungsi tunggalnya adalah PIXMA iP4680 (USD150), PIXMA iP3680 (USD100), dan PIXMA iP1980 (USD55). Printer-printer tersebut membuktikan kelengkapan ragam produk Canon sehingga konsumen memiliki lebih banyak pilihan untuk membeli produk yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan.

Teknologi Wi-Fi pada MP988 dan MP628 memungkinkan pengguna mencetak foto dari notebook, atau gadget lain yang memiliki Wi-Fi, tanpa harus menghubungkan notebook atau gadget itu ke MP988 dan MP628 dengan kabel.

Pada printer-printer multifungsi kelas atas dan menengah terbaru seperti PIXMA MP988, PIXMA MP638, PIXMA MP628, PIXMA MP545, dan PIXMA MP486, Canon mengimplementasikan teknologi kendali baru bernama Easy-Scroll Wheel. Dengan teknologi itu, pengguna bisa mengoperasikan printer multifungsi dengan memutar dan menekan roda.

Canon melengkapi PIXMA iP4680 dan PIXMA iP3680 dengan lima tabung tinta terpisah. Pemisahan tabung-tabung tinta itu ditujukan untuk membuat printer-printer itu lebih ramah lingkungan. Pengguna iP4680 dan iP3680 bisa mengurangi pembuangan sampah karena pengguna cukup mengganti tabung-tabung yang kosong saja.

Pada PIXMA MP988, Canon bahkan mengimplementasikan teknologi tinta abuabu. Dengan tinta abu-abu, PIXMA MP988 mampu menghasilkan pencetakan foto hitam putih yang lebih tajam dan halus karena printer tidak perlu mencampur berbagai macam warna berbeda untuk menghasilkan warna abu-abu.

Printer HP Terbaru

Jakarta - Kepala Badan Intelijen Negara (BIN) melalui Badan Koordinasi Pemberantasan Uang Palsu (Botasupal) telah mewajibkan penggunaan stiker sebagai tanda registrasi. Namun, peraturan ini ternyata tidak membuat Hewlett-Packard (HP) langsung menanamkan stiker di printer terbaru mereka. Kenapa?

Mulia Dewi Karnadi, Consumer Sales Director Imaging Printer HP Indonesia mengatakan, saat ini pihaknya sedang dalam tahap transisi untuk mengikuti aturan tersebut.

Pasalnya, proses integrasi stikerisasi dan registrasi yang harus disesuaikan dengan setiap lini produksinya dirasa sangat panjang, sehingga membutuhkan waktu untuk melakukannya, imbuh Dewi.

"Dalam proses ini kan jalurnya panjang ada dealer, ada master dealer. Dari faktor ini untuk terus mengikuti peraturan kita tidak bisa langsung mengikuti," kilahnya, via telepon kepada beberapa wartawan, Rabu (13/6/2007)

Lamanya proses ini diperkirakan Dewi, akan memakan waktu 2-3 bulan ke depan sehingga seluruh printer HP yang dijual di pasaran sudah dilengkapi stiker yang sudah teregistrasi.

Dewi menambahkan, dengan tidak diberikan stiker pada printer HP bukan berarti penjualan printer ini telah melanggar peraturan. Sebab, printer-printer tersebut sudah teregistrasi hanya proses stikerisasinya saja yang masih terpisah.

"Nanti HP akan siapkan satu portal dimana akan mempermudah kostumer untuk melakukan pendataan. Kita sendiri juga sudah mempersiapkan stikernya. Jadi nantinya proses registrasi dan stikerisasi mau ngga mau harus lewat dua proses," tukasnya.

Sebelumnya bertempat di Blitzmegaplex Jakarta, HP telah memperkenalkan jajaran printer terbaru mereka, yakni Office Jet Pro K5000, K5300 dan K5400. Khusus K5000 diklaim sebagai printer desktop tercepat di dunia, dengan kecepatan mencetak 36 page per minute (ppm) untuk mono dan 35 ppm untuk warna. ( ash / ash )

Intel mengklasifikasikan prosesor untuk PC Desktop dan Notebook dalam tiga keluarga prosesor yaitu :
1. Intel Celeron
2. Intel Pentium
3. Intel Core

Core duo berarti dua inti prosesor dalam satu chip (rumah/kemasan prosesor) dan termasuk dalam keluarga prosesor Intel Core.

Pada PC Desktop dikenal dengan dual core dan ini terkadang disalahtafsirkan oleh pedagang komputer sebagai prosesor Core Duo.

Core Duo adalah teknologi terbaru (keluarga prosesor Intel Core) yang hendak diterapkan Intel bagi Notebook. Seiring perkembangan diadakan perbaikan/pengembangan yang menghasilkan Core 2 Duo. Sepertinya Intel berkeputusan untuk juga menggunakan teknologi Core 2 Duo pada PC Desktop. Sehingga PC Desktop saat ini bisa mengadopsi teknologi Core 2 Duo tanpa perlu mengalami fase Core Duo.

Kesimpulan umum

- Core Duo diciptakan untuk Notebook, seiring perkembangan diciptakan teknologi Core 2 Duo yang mana selain bisa digunakan untuk notebook juga bisa digunakan oleh PC Desktop.
- Tidak ada processor Core Duo untuk PC Desktop yang ada yaitu langsung Core 2 Duo, sebelumnya dua inti prosesor juga sudah pernah diterapkan pada PC Desktop yaitu pada keluarga prosesor Pentium diantaranya adalah Pentium Dual-Core dan Pentium D namun microarchitecture antara keluarga prosesor Intel Pentium dan keluarga prosesor Intel Core tersebut sangat jauh berbeda termasuk ukuran transistornya. Perbedaan tersebut mempengaruhi kinerja, tingkat kebutuhan energi/daya (wattage), dan panas yang dihasilkan. Pada Core 2 Duo kebutuhan energi dan panas yang dihasilkan jauh lebih kecil dibadingkan pada keluarga prosesor Intel Pentium yang berintikan dua prosesor.

I see that you group the processors into 3 families, those are, Intel Core, Intel Pentium, and Intel Celeron. I believe there's a reason that you classify the processors into those 3 families, so what makes one belong to a family, what's the difference between them? Is it the processor's architecture, amount of core processor within and its relative, or else?
As you can see, there is no particular reason for the classification of the processors in terms of categorization; however, a processor must have certain characteristics to belong to a family. Some of the features that we take into considerations when classifying processor are speed, FSB, Dual Core(TM) Technology, Hyper-Threading Technology, Intel(R) Extended Memory 64 Technology, Cache memory, Intel(R) Virtualization Technology, Enhance Intel(R) SpeedStep technology, among many others. Bear in mind that not all processor would share the same features. There is also an engineering background to take into account that is related to the architecture used when building up the processor.
As you might have noticed, the classification of the processors is mostly related to physical and electronic characteristics. This is why, for example, we do not compare and/or comment about processors in terms of performance, since it would mostly depend on the motherboard and software loaded on the system and not on the processor itself.

Kinerja prosesor ini menang telak cukup jauh jika dibandingkan dengan prosesor Intel Pentium D seri Presler apalagi Pentium D seri Smithfield yang masih menggunakan mikroarsitektur Intel NetBurst. Jika dibandingkan dengan seterunya, AMD Athlon FX 60, sebuah prosesor Intel Core 2 Duo berkecepatan 2400 MHz mengungguli prosesor tersebut dengan perbedaan kinerja kira-kira 15%. Jika prosesor AMD Athlon FX tersebut di-overclock menjadi 3.4 GHz, prosesor tersebut unggul tipis dibandingkan Core 2 Duo 2400 MHz. Ini berarti prosesor Intel Core 2 Duo jauh lebih efisien dibandingkan dengan pendahulunya dalam rangka mengeksekusi instruksi.
