Suze Rotolo who died in February this year at the age of 67 was an American artist, but was perhaps best known as the girlfriend of a musician in the 1960's who strongly influenced his music. She also was the woman walking with him on the cover of one of his albums. In her book, A Freewheelin' Time: A Memoir of Greenwich Village in the Sixties, Rotolo described her time with the musician and the music scene in Greenwich Village, New York.

These are part of the lyrics from the anti Vietnam war song Fortunate Son which is listed by Rolling stone as the 99th greatest songs of all time. It is about a man who is being drafted but who is not fortunate enough to be the son of a senator or a millionaire (in fact it was inspired by the marriage of the grandson of Dwight Eisenhower to Julie the daughter of Richard Nixon in 1968).

The song appears amongst other notable films in the film "Forrest Gump", when Forrest is sent to fight in the Vietnam war, it has also appeared in a commercial for "Wrangler" jeans.

It was originally released as a single, together with "Down on the Corner" and then incorporated in the album "Willy and the poor boys" by a band, which was often popularly identified by the abbreviated form of its name and fronted by two brothers whose music was referred to as country rock, swamp rock and southern rock.
