This
one’s coming off an article by Isaac Asimov I read recently. Inspired by correspondence
with a fan of his who wrote him about the prevalence of serial novels in recent
times. ‘It can be frustrating…,’ she
wrote.

Personally, I don’t take issues with continuity
in a plot, which takes multiple volumes to unfold, do you? I could list a
couple of books I would have appreciated as a series

<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/blogspot/TBKyCd/~4/4pk0mCrriOk" height="1" width="1"/>

NaPoWriMo 2013: Been There, Done That...

R U Game?

Phew!
NaPoWriMo’s finally over and I can’t help thinking, all that rush. Waking up
each day in the month of April to confront my journal and then hopping straight
for the screen of my Samsung Notebook, in my attempt to translate verse to
blog. Nevertheless, I suppose the real question is, “Was it worth it?” Hell
yeah!

Inspired by
Christy-Essien, the late Nigeria’s Lady of Songs.

Ayaya means “beautiful”
in Ibibio, one of Nigeria’s several dialects.

Give me
a chance is all I ask

And as
time turns a page, you’ll witness my person enhanced.

Just one
solitary chance is all,

And I’ll
deliver, my life will be a ball.

I’ll
take my chances, go it alone. Just don’t play that card.

I wait
not for what man can give,

a cavalry of conceit.

But in
the meanwhile, I will not be subjected by limits.

And until

For Mali

We run
a race of an unmarked finish line

On a
track spiked like the back of a porcupine.

Men lacking
the capacity for deep feeling conceived the ruthless disease

Holding
out the pot of honey only to buzz and sting like bees.

Souls
of mankind stranded in a maze.

The only
way out is the hard way,

Cause a
hint of achievement sparks up a rat race.

Forces of
limitation are held captive by their own invention.

But like

Impossible

I remain
undiscouraged by erratic tendencies.

I am a
ghetto kid strung-out on a cache of shattering experiences.

I spit
details of my life on the breath of deathless utterances.

Sired
into one of the basest classes in the gutter

It was extremely
tough imagining life as a picnic.

I lived
each day of my life in extremis to the letter

And
believe me when I say I wasn’t your everyday skeptic.

It was

Ill
winds blow over the seas,

Moaning
as it drives the breakers like a plaintive mother.

The lung
of the land is chockfull with seeds.

Still, sterility
devastates like a trench mortar.

Like a
ruthless feeling disease

Corruption
plagues the souls of men.

All we
like sheep rid of their fleece

Rush over
the cliff and some meet their end.

Before
my last breath puffs me across the threshold;

Before corporeal
beauty decompose’

Before I
shut my eyes in death

After I’ve
spun my last thread.

Before I
breach the bounds of my earthly days;

Before I
finish my race.

Before mortality
is swallowed up by immortality;

Before I
taste the first day of eternity.

Before my
veins collapse

For Mandela

Hope triumphs still.

Even when

He’s

Hope’s
