Primer Paso: El Lapiz / First Step: The Pencil

Ésta es la baronesa. Aun no tiene nombre...es sólo "la baronesa". Desempeñará un papel en la historia de mi LadyOrc y, ni siquiera yo, sé si pretenderá ayudarla o traicionarla...(aunque conociendo mi turbia imaginación no querrá nada bueno para ella jeje). Éste pj lo dibujé a lapiz en mi cuaderno hace años...y si mi desidia y el Karma me lo permiten os iré mostrando el proceso creativo desde el mero "sketch" hasta la ilustración final a color con su fondo y todo (yo personalmente apuesto a que no seré capaz de terminarlo jeje pero...¿quién sabe? ;) )

This is my baroness. She doesn´t have a name at all...she´s just "the Baroness". This is another characther from LadyOrc and will help to our green-skin-girl (or maybe betrayed her, no one can trust her...not even me!). This is just a sketch; as I say: "pencil goes first". It´s my purpose to show you the entire process, from pencil to the final cover. Let´s see if I defeat my laziness!

Coloreando Comics / Comic Style Painting

El autor de éste fabuloso tutorial es erickenji. Lo encontré en devianart y aunque tiene un link para descargar el vídeo tambíen está en el youtube para que todos puedan verlo. Realmente usa una técnica muy interesante para dar color. En cuanto tenga tiempo la practicaré pero parece que se ahorra bastante tiempo coloreando de éste modo y no del "modo tradicional" (suponiendo que haya alguno).

Today I found this awedome tutorial by erickenji surfin the net. Finally, in his deviantart, he show us a (pretty good) technique. I´m gonna test it but think you´ll save some time pinting in this way. Hope enjoy it!

Chicas Malas / Bad Girls

No sé qué tienen las chicas malas que tanto nos gustan a todos. Ésta que veis aquí es una de ellas. Diseñada para ser la némesis de mi Lady Orc, aun no tiene nombre (el único que se me ocurre es Démona, pero esa era la chica gargola de la serie Gargoyles...). Aun tengo que vestirla y ponerle unos cuantos esbirros...y quizas depilarle las piernas, aunque no creo que eso le quite morbo...

I don´t know what bad girls have but...we love them! Here you are the Lady Orc's Nemesis, Demona (yes, yes, I know, that was the name of the gargoyle girl, the old Goliat's fiancee...this is just provisional). Have to dress and bring her several buddies, you know, she´ll need her own bad guys gang so...lets see if I have time to shave her legs...

Marvel VS DC

Quien diga que la guerra entre Marvel y DC Cómics no existe, o que ha terminado, o algo por el estilo, o miente o se equivoca. Sólo tenéis que mirar estas dos portadas para poder ver el paralelismo entre ellas. Pero podéis pensar...¿coincidencia? Creo que no.

Vengadores Oscuros es la nueva línea editorial de Marvel; básicamente, y para el que no lo sepa, los Vengadores de toda la vida han sido despedidos y su lugar lo ocupan ahora los que, hasta la fecha, han sido los villanos. No negaré que es un halo refrescante ver cómo los chicos malos intentan hacerse pasar por los buenos sin renunciar del todo a sus pulsiones psicóticas...y qué demonios, ver como "ganan los malos" es algo novedoso en el mercado americano: los protas son los malos!

Ahora pasamos a la serie de DC, Villains United...empieza bien con el título. Esto va de que Lex Luthor y varios más están reuniendo a todos los supervillanos del universo DC para hacerse una mega-mafia y plantar cara en condiciones a superman y compañía; sin embargo hay algunos chicos malos que prefieren no unirse y por lo visto ésto crea algunos problemas...Y si bien los argumentos, en principio, no se parecen, sí que coincide la idea: una serie donde los malos son los protas.

Whoever says that the war between Marvel and DC Comics doesn´t exist, or has done or something like that, is lying or mistaken. You only have to take a look at these two covers to see the parallels between them. But you could think...coincidence? I don´t think so.

Dark Avengers is the new serie of Marvel; basically the old Avengers have been fired and now their places are occupied by the bad guys. All right, I have to admit this is something new in the american market: we all know that the bad guy can´t win. Have to say, in addition, this is what Marvel was needing, something novel and refresh. It will be funny to se how characters like Norman Osborn, or Bull Eye, can deal with his new status because, they have to admit this, they are assassins.

Now lets go to the DC serie "Villains United"...OK the tittle is awesome. The story is about Lex Luthor; he is recluting several villains from DC Universe to build a "super-gang" to face the superheros and role the world, etc, etc...however, there are several bad guys that decline to join this group and here is when troubles starts. So, as you can see, both storylines aren´t equal, but the main idea is the same: bud guys like major figures of the story.

¡Tengo Hambre! / I´m Hungry!

Lo titulé Skull Monster, es el segundo dibujo que hice empleando la técnica que aprendí con el "ManCat". El carácter de éste segundo monstruo quería que fuera diametralmente opuesto al del hombre gato. Se nota que a éste diablillo le acabas de interrumpir en mitad de un festín, pero en vez de enfadarse, se vuelve y te invita "¡Claro hombre! Gracias por venir, ¿tienes hambre? Jeje, qué lástima porque ¡Yo Sí!"

Here you are, my Skull Monster. This is the second picture drawn with the technique learned from the ManCat. It seems this second monster is a good-natured guy, even funny, like a nemesis from the cat-man. Look at him, you just interrupt his meal but, instead of getting angry he invites you: "Sure man! Thanks for comming... are you hungry? He he, what a pity 'cause I do!"

Otro speed painting, ésta vez de Criscalf, un fanático de la fantasía, los monstruos y, especialmente, los dragones. No será el último tutorial que ponga de él, es un verdadero experto y alguno de sus vídeos son muy didacticos. Como aperitivo aquí podéis ver cómo despierta un dragón.

Another speed painting, this time, a Criscalf´s. How you can see, a truly expert in monsters, fantasy and especially, in dragons. Me encantan los "speed painting", aquí vemos el trabajo de Nico Di Mattia, un máquina. El primer vídeo suyo que ví fue el de John Locke pero he creído que sería mejor poner éste de Megan Fox por el nivel de realismo que consigue tirando únicamente de photoshop.

I love speed painting. Here we can see Nico Di Mattia´s work. As you can see he´s awesome. His first viedo (at least most well-known)was John Locke, from Lost, and my first thought was upload it...but after to see this one...I thought this "Megan Fox" would be better.

Man Cat

Mi primera ilustración puramente digital. Me llevó 3 días acabarla. No hay lápiz, ni guías, ni boceto. Solos él y yo. Como si se hubiera escapado de la Isla del Doctor Moreau veo la pesadez y el cansancio en su mirada, la crudeza de un mundo imperfecto que le surca el rostro. La soledad y la lejanía...Quizás por ser el primero es por lo que, casi siempre, lo uso como Avatar.

My first digital illustration. It took me 3 days finish it. No pencil, no guides, and no sketch. Only he...and me. As if he had escaped from the Island of Dr. Moreau I see the heaviness and tiredness in his look, the rawness of an imperfect wordl that crosses his face. Solitude and remoteness...maybe cause the former is therefore almost always I use it as an Avatar.

Painting with Fire

Frank Frazetta es...en palabras llanas...DIOS. Painting with Fire es el título de un documental sobre su vida y la influencia de su trabajo en el siglo XX. Está en versión original (aunque el DVD permite poner subtítulos como es normal).
Qué puedo decir sobre él...para qué ponerme a enumerar ningún elogio. Frank Frazetta dibujaba sin ningún tipo de referencia ni ayuda, únicamente plasmaba la imagen que se componía en su cabeza. John Buscema se basó en su ilustración del Bárbaro para crear al Conan de Robert E. Howard, e influyó mucho en el diseño de las Guerras de las Galaxias de George Lucas con sus ilustraciones futuristas.
Pasados los años sufrió una grave enfermedad que casi le cuesta la vida...le deformó la cara y perdió la movilidad del lado derecho de su cuerpo. Se recuperó aunque le quedaron secuelas...entre ellas no tenía fuerza si quiera para coger el lapiz o pincel con su mano derecha...así que empezó a dibujar con la izquierda.
Os recomiendo este documental a todos vosotros. Es un lujazo.

Frank Frazetta ... in plain words ... is GOD. Painting with Fire is the title of a documentary about his life and influence of his work in the twentieth century. What can I say about him... for what to list any praise. Frank Frazetta drew without any reference or help, only embodied the image that was composed in his mind. John Buscema was based on his illustration (the Barbarian) to create Robert E. Howard´s Conan,in addition, Frazetta´s sci-fi illustrations were taken as reference to design George Lucas´Star Wars.However, (don´t rember in what age), Frazetta suffered a serious illness that almost cost him his life ... he distorted his face and lost his right side body mobility. He recovered but was left with sequelae ... some of them was not enough strong to picking up the pencil or brush with his right hand ... so he just started drawing with left hand.I recommend this documentary to all of you. It is a luxury.

Lady Orc

Portada, aún sin acabar, de uno de mis proyectos: Lady Orc. El título, creo, capta la esencia de los dos conceptos contrapuestos que posee nuestra protagonista. Harto de que los orcos, goblins y trolls sean los malos de la película, decidí darles algo de dignidad, aportar otro punto de vista. Como muestra, en la sección de Comics Online, hay una versión, tipo manga, que hice digitalmente (la primera y última vez que intengo hacer un comic sin un mínimo croquis a lapiz :S). Y aunque el resultado no fue el deseado sí que me sirvió para saber qué funciona y qué no. Además pude dar vida a una de mis musas...por lo que no puedo quejarme :P

Unfinished cover from one of my projects: Lady Orc. I think the tittle seizes the two opposites concept: beauty and strengh. I´m upset, why orcs and goblins are always the bad guys? I wanna give them back their dignity and, why not, honor. In Comics Online there is a "manga version", made digitally, without pencil, only the pen tablet (and this will be the last time I do it this way). Although the result wasn´t what I expected, at least, I learned few tricks and now I know what works for me in a better way.

El Pulp / The Pulp

Pulp es un término inglés tomado del latín. En castellano se dice pulpa, la pulpa de celulosa o de la fruta. "Pulp" es la denominación popular estadounidense que se daba a cierto tipo de revistas populares especializadas enhistorias policiales, o "de detectives", de ciencia ficción y fantasía. Debido a su bajo coste estas ediciones se hacían en papel "pulpa", papel rústico y amarillento que denota su origen como pulpa de celulosa. Los "pulps" al igual que la cinematografía de la "serie B", pese a sus inicios humildes, han resultado todo un género y estílo artístico, dignificado hacia los 60's del siglo XX por el Pop-art.

Pulp magazines (or pulp fiction; often referred to as "the pulps") were inexpensive fiction magazines.The name "pulp" comes from the cheap wood pulp paper on which such magazines were printed. Magazines printed on better paper and usually offering family-oriented content were often called "glossies" or "slicks".he name . Many respected writers wrote for pulps, the magazines are perhaps best remembered for their lurid and exploitative stories, and for their similarly sensational cover art. Modern superhero comics books are sometimes considered descendants of "hero pulps".

No soy Luis Royo, Frank Frazzeta o Jim Lee. No se si tengo el talento, ni si quiera la oportunidad. Sólo se que hay algo dentro de mí que quiere salir, una necesidad Lovecraftiana de relatar historias, de compartir contigo aquello que soy. Hay gente que nace con el talento de un atleta, o con una voz prodigiosa que le permite triunfar en el mundo de la música, otros han nacido con talento para la medicina, la ciencia, la poesía...podría haber sido un buen granjero o albañil, o fontanero. Pero soy lo que soy y ésto...es sólo el principio.

I´m not Luis Royo, Frank Frazzeta or Jim Lee. I don´t know if I have the talent, even the opportunity. The only thing I know is there is something inside from me what want to escape;an insane need of storytelling, sharing with you what I am. Some people are born to play music, others to be doctors or engineers...I might have the talent of an earthworker, or bricklayer, or a plumber. But I am what I am and this...this is just the beginning.
