Mermaid hair!

2015-12-29T23:46:00.001-05:00

Before and after

I only get my hair done once a year. That includes cut and bleach, color and style.

For my everyday hair routine, I don't use products with sulfates, silicones, or alcohols. I don't use any heat, I let my hair air dry. I basically follow the "curly girl method". This allows my hair to stay hydrated and healthy and curly. To maintain the color, I apply a deposit color made by Ion that I buy at Sally's every few months go freshen up the color.

This after picture is from a cut, color and style by my good friend Meeka Scull from Studio M Salon in Brunswick, OH.

Updated office

2015-07-03T00:55:00.001-04:00

This was our before picture of our office. It had gross chipping mint painted walls and ruined finish dark hardwoods.

Here is the after. We had the oak floors refinished with no stain. We painted the walls with a nice gray color from Behr. I also decluttered the hell out of this room.

Our christmas mantel this year.

2013-12-11T17:06:00.002-05:00

I decided to change it up a little and not go so intense with Christmas. I kept things simple by just adding ornaments to the skull's horns and adding acorns to the owls on the mantel.

Upstairs Remodeled

2012-07-03T10:28:00.005-04:00

Spent the last month working on the upstairs of our house. We worked on two bedrooms, the stairs, a hallway, loft area and three closets. Ripped out the carpet, patched walls, sanded, cleaned, painted ceilings, walls and trim. Just had the wood floor refinisher guy sand & refinish our never touched before hardwoods from our 1929 brick bungalow. They turned out beautiful. Here are our before, during & afters.

Xmas Decor

2011-12-22T19:44:00.023-05:00

Here's what Christmas is looking like at my house!

Star from Big Lots (Thanks Mom!)

Tree & Ornaments from Target (last year)

Wreath from Marc's

Who's a pretty boy? Tyson!

I spray painted these deer. My mom got them from Glenn's Surplus Store in Shelby, OH. They were a brown/black color.

Ornaments from Old Time Pottery.

Davey got me this owl for Xmas!

Jar from Marshall's. Owl from Marshalls that I spray painted silver.

Trees & Bows & Garland from Marc's.

Frosted Wine Bottle w/ bottom cut out for candle. It was a party gift from our friend's wedding last Fall.

Glitter Star!

Mmmmkkk

Lantern from Ikea.

Painted deer.

I love how the tree reflects in the glass of the door.

Reindeer ornaments were a gift from a co-worker (Target I think). Snowflakes were from the dollar bin at Target last year and Icicles and Glittery Acorns were from K-mart this year. M & K's were from the dollar bin at Target this year.

It's taken a few years to gather all the things to decorate my house for christmas.

Kiki's passed out on the couch sideways. Too cute.

**Update** We opened up presents early and Mikey got me a canon speedlite flash for my camera, so I just had to test it out on the puppies! You can actually SEE Dante now. Lol. Please excuse his bone guts on his chest and his wet beard from drinking water. He did not prep for this photoshoot.

The beautiful Kiki

She was being weird and wouldn't look at me.

Maybe she didn't like the flash?

Happy Holidays everyone!

How to make your own Bath Bombs

2011-12-22T18:39:00.023-05:00

This blog post is dedicated to my new friend & co-worker Annamarie! I was excited that my cellphone picture of my bath bombs was repinned on pinterest. My very first repin. I did however express disappointment that I didn't get around to writing about it so that everyone could learn how to do it. She agreed and was equally bummed out, I didn't wanna be one of "those" people! So here it is!

I've been meaning to make bath bombs for the longest time now. I bought the citric acid months ago and never got around to it. I figured what better time, than now for the holidays? I made some for all the special ladies in my life. I scented them w/ this fragrance oil that mimics my favorite perfume exactly, Pink Sugar!

I got this recipe from Wellington Fragrance: Homemade Bath Bomb Recipe

1 cup baking soda
1/2 cup citric acid
1/2 cup epsom salts
2 teaspoons Fragrance Oil (I used Pink Sugar from Wellington Fragrance)
2 1/2 Tbsp sunflower oil or Almond oil (For this batch, I used Apricot Kernel Oil)
Mix equal parts of water and glycerine. You will need approximately 3/4 teaspoons of this mixture.
1/4 teaspoon borax (an emulsifier)
Add Colorant (I used food coloring - one drop of blue, and one drop of green for the tiffany blue colored ones and just one drop of red for the pink ones)
I also added in some non-toxic glitter for some fabulous fun!
3D Plastic Molds (I got the circle & heart shapes from Wellington Fragance)

Step One
Put all dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Mix together making sure the citric acid is thoroughly dispersed throughout. You'll want the citric acid and epsom salts to be in a granulated form. If you find they are too chunky, place them in a small coffee grinder to get a finer grade.

Step Two
Combine oil, water/glycerin, fragrance, borax, and colorant in a separate bowl and mix well.

Step Three
Slowly drizzle the oil/water/glycerin mixture into the dry ingredients. You DON'T want the mixture to fizz as you drizzle, so take your time. Don't drizzle the wet ingredients too fast, but be sure to miix the dry and wet ingredients thoroughly.

Step Four
Once mixed, pack the mixture into each 3-D mold half. It's OK to overfill each half. You want the mixture to have the texture of slightly moist wet sand. The mixture should hold together when squeezed in the palm of your hand.

Step Five
Refrain from twisting the two filled halves. Instead, firmly push the two halves together. Remove any excess mixture from outside of mold with your fingers or by wiping the perimeter with a paper towel.

Step Six
You will want to unmold 1/2 at a time by gently tapping the first half of the mold a few time with your fingers. Let the bath bomb fall out of the mold one half at a time. Do not use forced or twist.
Should the bath bomb crumble upon removal, do NOT discard. Instead, add a small amount of oil (1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon) and reshape the mixture into the mold.

Step Seven
Once removing from molds, allow bath bombs to air dry undisturbed for 3 days on a clean kitchen dish towel or on waxed paper.

I designed these tags and printed them out on my home computer and I got the cute snowflake bags from the dollar store.

Tracking again

2010-09-21T11:42:00.003-04:00

I'm starting to track my food intake again on livestrong.com's daily plate. I did this in 2009 and lost 40 lbs doing so. I recently noticed that my healthy eating habits have gone astray and I've gained 10 of those pounds back. It's all about portion control and damn, when I'm feeling out of control - larger amounts of food always seem to get in my mouth.

Wedding Dress: Take 2

2009-03-26T21:49:00.007-04:00

The original dress was too much for them to do, probably don't have the print or the ability to print on satin. So I simplified it to this: And I'm requesting that the design be sewn on as beaded lace...maybe it's possible *Crosses fingers*.

If not it's back to this:

Which I am just as happy with :)

Hair hair hair!

2009-03-25T20:47:00.004-04:00

So I've been trying to do the Natural "Curly Girl" method of cleansing & styling my hair. It involves using no sulfates (found in most shampoos) and using no silicones (found in most conditioners & styling products). I guess I am modifying it a little bit because the Curly Girl method is using conditioner as a wash instead of Shampoo but I found some great non-sulfate shampoos that I like to use. (I use Burt's Bees Shampoo and/or any bottles in Giovanni's Shampoo Line: Tea Tree, 50:50 and GVP Conditioning Balm)

This picture is before I started: This picture is right after the first non-sulfate/non-silicone wash & condition & diffuser dry.

This picture is a few days later after I colored my hair with L'Oreal Excellence HiColor Red HiLights. For styling I used Pantene Pomade on the bangs, Pantene Mousse on the crown & Herbel Essense Mousse on the rest. I put the crown in 3 big rollers while I dried the curls with a diffuser, then once that was dry - I took the rollers out and smoothed the hair with a big boar bristle round brush and the hairdryer on low heat. Then I crunched the curls, and wah-la - soft!

I think I love it. My hair totally feels a lot better and my curls are great. I never really realized I have curls...I always thought I just had wavy hair.

Hair shows

2008-07-29T17:52:00.000-04:00

Watching hair shows makes me want to get my hair cut. Not shorter, just a trim on the layers. However, I know better. Cause if I do that I know that I will end up with hair that's 2 inches shorter! Lol. Must resist the urge.

Cleaned my room.

2008-07-14T17:37:00.001-04:00

We moved here in January...I had 3 boxes still left unpacked. 4 huge plastic bins of underwear, hoisery, tank tops and lingere. Stacked on top of that was about 10 pairs of jeans.

So it looked like quite a mess the past 7 months. Mikey bought me a black dresser for my birthday last month and we finally put it together last weekend.

I had to get rid of some stuff but most of the things from the plastic bins surprisingly fit in there!

Looks like Aurora found a new bed. Can you find her?
