Why Trump Won't "Run" For House - weird Constitutional Reason!

noreply@blogger.com (Unknown) — Fri, 11 Jun 2021 17:57:00 +0000

There are many rumors that crooked Fla GOP politicians (there is another kind?) will gerrymander a district certain to elect Ex-President Trump to the House of Representatives.

They could legally do it, one early President went from President to a MA Rep.

But Trump won't run for Rep. because he expects to be named Speaker of the House anyway when the GOP regains the majority next election cycle so he can wield power and save money for another presidential run.

Sounds ridiculous doesn't it, but that would put him third inline for President anyway - give that and his fanatic followers some thought.

However you say, he can't be elected Speaker if he isn't in Congress.

Sorry, you are wrong.

“The House of Representatives shall chuse their Speaker and other Officers; and shall have the sole Power of Impeachment.”

Article I, Section 2, Clause 5 and part of the section on impeachment so you can be certain someone read it to him.

It says nothing about them choosing from elected members of the House.

Anyone! Anyone at all, (even an infant or non American?) can be elected Speaker of the House, even Putin. See the Constitution or direct quote below Article I, Section 2, Clause 5

The Senate can turn GOP - certainly possible

Then House impeaches Biden and Senate convicts Immediately (remember, no crime is necessary.)

Impeach Harris and convict

Trump as Speaker becomes President legally.

Experimental Anti-Viral MK-4482 To Treat COVID (Rocky Mountain)

noreply@blogger.com (Unknown) — Fri, 16 Apr 2021 19:13:00 +0000

Initial animal tests of a brand new anti-viral medicine has shown what it may treat or even prevent COVID-19.

This could be the magic bullet which could defeat the anti-vaXXers and even the mutations.

MK-4482 shows potential to prevent and treat SARS-CoV-2 infection.

In a press release the NIH just published this information within the hour.

"The experimental antiviral drug MK-4482 significantly decreased levels of virus and disease damage in the lungs of hamsters treated for SARS-CoV-2 infection, according to a new study from National Institutes of Health scientists. SARS-CoV-2 is the virus that causes COVID-19. MK-4482, delivered orally, is now in human clinical trials. Remdesivir, an antiviral drug already approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for use against COVID-19, must be provided intravenously, making its use primarily limited to clinical settings.

In their study, published in the journal Nature Communications, the scientists found MK-4482 treatment effective when provided up to 12 hours before or 12 hours after infecting the hamsters with SARS-CoV-2. These data suggest that MK-4482 treatment potentially could mitigate high-risk exposures to SARS-CoV-2, and might be used to treat established SARS-CoV-2 infection alone or possibly in combination with other agents.

The same research group, located at Rocky Mountain Laboratories, part of NIH’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in Hamilton, Montana, developed the hamster model last year to mimic SARS-CoV-2 infection and mild disease in people. The University of Plymouth in the United Kingdom collaborated on these most recent studies."

Some Long-Haulers Seeing Major Relief From COVID Vaccination

noreply@blogger.com (Unknown) — Thu, 08 Apr 2021 17:52:00 +0000

Stunning news for many experts - it appears that a number of the people who survived COVID but have serious ongoing problems with weakness, lethargy, and pain are reporting that after receiving a COVID vaccine they are feeling much better.

Extreme shortness of breath is probably the most concerning symptom of post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC) and at least one person who could barely walk a block is now reporting that three weeks after getting the Pfizer COVID vaccine he is beginning to feel much better.

https://www.webmd.com/vaccines/covid-19-vaccine/news/20210317/some-with-long-haul-covid-see-relief-after-vaccination

"Survivor Corps, which has a public Facebook group with 159,000 members, recently took a poll to see whether there was any substance to rumors that these patients were feeling better after being vaccinated.

"Out of 400 people, 36% showed an improvement in symptoms, anywhere between a mild improvement to complete resolution of symptoms"

An important note about this development is that SOME of the long-haulers have experienced WORSENING symptoms after their first of 2 vaccine shots but experienced incredible relief a few weeks after getting the second COVID vaccine shot.

Upwards of 25% of people who survived COVID have experienced these long-hauler symptoms.

Recently I Chanced on The County's Library System and They Asked for Comments About Their Services They Probably Regret Asking An Author.

noreply@blogger.com (Unknown) — Sat, 03 Apr 2021 02:01:00 +0000

Since they went to the trouble of making it easy to post comments about resident's experience with the library system in this rural area of west-central PA whose biggest (likely only, although the local newspaper once wrote on the front page that I was the second biggest celebrity in the area) celebrity is Phil who gets international attention on Groundhog Day here in Punxsutawney. But children's birthday parties occasionally make the front page so I didn't take it too seriously.

I have had nothing but bad experiences with the local library but am a big fan of libraries and librarians in general, so I welcomed the chance to make content - the new local librarian has failed to supply information for my community web site, information I had asked for and which she agreed to send.

Nevertheless, this was the association of multiple county libraries so I provided the following based on years of working with librarians.

Below is my reply:

IF you want the truth...

I used to visit libraries often doing research for my books and was on the library committee for the National Press Club (I have published 19 books, 6 with major publishers) but with the advent of the Internet, especially after I got off a local dial-up connection when I was working for a wire service on USENET, I have not visited any library (except as an ADA advisor).

As an author and writer (published 18,000+ times) I am hard pressed to see any real ongoing role for local libraries except for people within walking distance, those with poor Internet access, or people who are not aware of the millions of books available for free on the Internet (there are very basic lists on www.15767.com - Free on the Internet.)

My partner reads very fast and goes through hundreds of Kindle books (for free) on Amazon. I read mainly histories from Thucydides to Churchill and constantly either have classical music or audiobooks playing at home or on the road.

I get everything from WAPO, The Guardian, and the NYT newspapers online along with Reuters, and professional magazines from Nature and Science to The Lancet and the NEJM. None of which are available at the library anyway.

Why would we visit a library even after the pandemic?

Broadband is likely to spread to rural areas during the Biden administration and when we get service out in the woods to equal that on Pennsylvania Ave. in Washington, then there will be even less need of a library building.

Perhaps we will see a deal to nationalize the Elon Musk StarLink cloud of space internet satellites? He is launching thousands in low Earth orbit. (I wonder how China will block that internet?)

Since so many of my close friends have been librarians I have struggled to find a future role for libraries and only come up with them as a MAJOR teaching/learning resource, not just a pile of books, but holding classes teaching what High School doesn't about Internet resources, how to do online research (I was a paid Google consultant teaching people how to search), encouraging young writers, showing people how they can get published, etc. but I am not certain librarians are prepared to take on a teaching role of that sort - it simply wasn't in their training.

I have worked closely with many librarians, mostly in New England and Washington - even dated several librarians - they are among my favorite people socially and ESPECIALLY in MENSA.

Unfortunately, I see little hope - an Australian study recently listed Librarian as one of the disappearing jobs and I explored that in my book "Life after the Pandemic."

"Life After a Pandemic" ebook https://www.amazon.com/dp/B087QM6FRB

paperback https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089CSCM5V

Decades ago locally I had difficulty reconciling a local library's mission with discarding books I had written and donated (McGraw-Hill and Times Mirror) - in New England towns where I had lived, such as Winthrop, MA, local authors were promoted as part of a library's goal of spreading literacy.

More recently I was asked to help fundraise for a library teleconference system. I never heard back from the librarian after I pointed out she had Skype already installed on every Library computer. Other great software was free, and she only needed noise-cancelling headphones, not thousands of dollars worth of equipment. She is no longer the local librarian.

I would be happy to work with the local library system and even more happy to hear what the group sees as a future for this or any library system.

I am encouraged to see your web page solicits comments from county residents.

(I am less encouraged three months later not having heard back and having been told there was no space for my donation of Science, the premier U.S. science journal which includes many parts accessible to non scientists.)

Nature Magazine Says No COVID-19 Herd Immunity. Also, NO FLU was bad news.

noreply@blogger.com (Unknown) — Fri, 19 Mar 2021 19:58:00 +0000

U.S. adults getting vaccines sounds great but, BUT, there is no vaccine for kids so herd immunity requires 98% of all adults being vaccinated. Many Republicans and others are refusing to get the vaccine to the tune of about 20% of Americans who WON'T get any of the vaccines.

Variants are getting worse and the next one may ignore all the vaccines. You get those mutations/variants when there are lots of infections. Some parts of the U.S. and many countries are not getting vaccinated at all therefore it continues spreading and generating more dangerous COVID versions in these low vaccine pools including entire countries with air service to the U.S.

COVID-19 isn’t going to end, ever. It will become endemic like the common cold or yearly flu which normally kills about 40,000 Americans each year.

Did you notice there was no flu this year? Social distancing and mask wearing has saved tens of thousands of influenza deaths.

Actually that is bad. Researchers trying to predict next year’s influenza strain needed a lot of people to get sick the previous year. In 2020 almost no one got the seasonal flu so there may not be a good vaccine for the next season 2021-2022.

Does Anyone Still Answer Their Phone?

noreply@blogger.com (Unknown) — Thu, 18 Mar 2021 17:51:00 +0000

Today I did my weekly cleanup of phone messages. I change my phone number every two years but the nonsense calls build up to an intolerable level after about 14 months.

Today there were 27 saved messages from unanswered calls, some from humans (sort of), a couple from someone speaking Hindustani, and some from computers, all from three companies selling things I would never buy.

I live in the country and we know what to do with door-to-door salesmen. Between large hungry dogs and shotguns paired with a backhoe.

If I ever answered one of these calls I would still be cursing the caller as my BP went up and up so I never, NEVER answer my phone.

There were 7 non sales calls, all from my insurance company, UPMC which is a great insurance plan EXCEPT FOR THE VOLUME OF NONSENSE CALLS they force on me almost daily.

No, I do not want to join your conference call about "how to make the most of staying at home" OR the very latest news about COVID or COVID vaccines, only about 4 days behind the press briefing I get every day from the WHO, or the latest issue of The Lancet or today's email booklet from the NE Journal of Medicine.

34 totally nonsense phone calls not a single one of the slightest interest to me.

Is it any wonder the ringer is shut off on our phone and that it is an internet phone?

Is it any wonder that we NEVER answer the phone?

So, my question is, what idiot is returning these calls and thereby encouraging these bastards to keep calling people?

If no one responded by using their call back number they would stop and Americans could use their telephones again. As it is we all pay hundreds of dollars each year to get a few important calls

I do what I can, I copy down those urgent phone numbers and routinely post them on sex hot lines, I hope they enjoy.

Shake, Rattle, and Roll, is Iceland About to Blow Its Top?

noreply@blogger.com (Unknown) — Tue, 16 Mar 2021 22:28:00 +0000

More than 10,000 what their geologists are calling micro-quakes have been keeping Icelanders in the vicinity of Reykjavik awak.

Of course everyone knows that Iceland is very geologically active hence all the geothermal power not to mention the vast lava fields, but the country has never in recorded human history seen this level of activity.

Geologists in Iceland and elsewhere say it is just a matter of time before there is a major eruption but the quakes seem to be centered on an area near the capital and that is an area of previous slow lava flows more like you see in Hawaii than like Vesuvius.

Although these are being described as microquakes, many are in the range of 3.8 to 4.5 and even higher - as high as 5.7, enough to shake vehicles and easily enough to wake people.

The southwest of Iceland has been volcanically quiet for 800+ years but the 18,000 recent quakes have people expecting an eruption - not necessarily frightened, but certainly on edge since they can't get a night's sleep.

Locust - Swarm 10 (Actually Cicadas) Coming to Your Yard Soon.

noreply@blogger.com (Unknown) — Sat, 13 Mar 2021 04:56:00 +0000

Cicadas from the largest group termed Group 10, last emerged 17 years ago and will come back in 2021.

There are several groups of cicadas, each with their own swarm schedules both different years and different times between 17 years and 13 years. After a brief emergence into the world in April through July.

The Group 10 cicadas which are up to 3 inches long with large wings lacking any color but also having large eyes.

This is their mating season, sort of like Spock’s Pom Farr, is limited to a brief period many years apart.

The cicada males will occasionally “sing,” a deafening noise which can be heard from long distances. This synchronized group sing is a call for females to mate.

In some areas there can be dense swarms flying around, this time along the East coast region from Tennessee to New York.

They only live a few weeks after emerging. They mate, the females lay eggs, then they die.

Cicadas may frighten you, but they don’t feed as grasshoppers or locusts (which are actually large swarms of one kind of grasshopper.)

A large swarm of locusts will destroy plants but cicadas will not strip your plants of leaves or even nibble on your carefully tended garden.

When soil temperatures reach about 65° F the swarm will emerge so you can predict when they are likely to appear by keeping track of average temperatures.

It is probably not a good idea to try and kill off a swarm with insecticide because they actually do little if any damage.

I FOUND THE ELECTION FRAUD/also, Republicans are telling voters they are responsible for passing the COVID bill.

noreply@blogger.com (Unknown) — Fri, 12 Mar 2021 21:11:00 +0000

What a lot of people don’t realize is every Republican

who says there was massive election fraud REALLY believes there

was fraud in the last election and they are correct.

There was fraud in THEIR America.

Sometimes you have to drop a large rock on my

head but I finally realized why many Trump supporters

insist there was serious fraud in the2020 election

- a whole bunch of black and brown people voted!

To many Republicans the mere fact that people in

the inner cities actually voted

IS SERIOUS FRAUD!

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Tanking Credit Where it Isn't Due

According to many Republicans about to run

for office THEY are responsible for the COVID bill

sending people $1,400, extending unemployment

payments, and funding local police and firemen.

It isn’t any surprise that politicians are taking credit

for something they opposed.

The GOP totally opposed the Biden COVID bill

but Republicans know many voters are so stupid they won't

notice that their Senators and Representatives voted 100%

AGAINST giving them the emergency aid.

ACV contains some vitamins and has a

Ph (acidity level of 2-3 which is the same

as the Hydrochloric Acid already in the stomach.

So what could ACV provide that a drink of

apple juice or better yet eating an apple a day doesn't?

As for weight loss it certainly can't compare

to eating 200 fewer calories every day.

If you have bad kidneys it could be harmful

and ACV does have some minor benefits but

far less than things you could be drinking

such as Green Tea (lowers cholesterol),

Beet juice (lowers blood pressure), Cranberry Juice

(protects especially women and girls from

UTI it is antibacterial), etc.

It does have those very minor benefits and some risks,

but ACV is really nothing more than the latest Internet

fad and click bait. In a few months it will be

something else just as meaningless, silly, and lucrative for advertisers.

As people grow up they learn commercials are just

ways to sell you something you don't really need.

Trump Tax Break For Millionaires Ended Most Home Office Deductions

noreply@blogger.com (Unknown) — Tue, 09 Mar 2021 14:15:00 +0000

If you were looking forward to deducting the

thousands of dollars you spent on making a

home office for your regular job, you can thank

Republicans for revoking your deduction in the 2017 tax bill.

Many people used to be able to deduct computers

and even office furniture when you worked from home

even though you were working at home for a regular

boss perhaps most of the month.

But the new Trump rule is you can't have a home office

deduction if you get a W-2. Only 1099 or those who

can prove they are self-employed can deduct now.

The Republican test is simple - W-2 no tax deduction.

There used to be strict rules which many people could

meet but now most new home workers are left out.

Is this common sense? Republicans who don't like people

out of their control at work, and don't mind massive

Government debt if it lets a billionaire get a second private jet,

NOW think feeding the poor is an extravagance we can't afford.

Yes middle class got a tax break at the same time, but

their tax break was temporary and about to expire.

EGGS and Diabetes - The Truth, Men should Eat Eggs - Doesn't Matter For Women

noreply@blogger.com (Unknown) — Mon, 08 Mar 2021 22:31:00 +0000

Women certainly matter, but the latest research shows

while eating eggs cuts the chance of men developing

Type 2 Diabetes, it doesn't work for women.

It is a simple question, how does eating eggs

change your chances of getting diabetes?

If you click on the many ads I don't know what you see.

Read this if you just want the medical facts.

Men eating eggs 2 or 3 times a week have a much,

MUCH lower chance of developing Type 2 Diabetes- a 40% lower chance.

That means out of 10 middle age or older men who would develop

Type 2 Diabetes based on diet and lifestyle, if they all eat 2-3

eggs each week, only 6 of them will develop it.

Women can ignore this except for your loved ones.

Eat eggs or not, it has no effect on women

developing type 2 diabetes.

That’s the bottom line as we say, although

medical professionals may wish to read the actual research paper

that's the honest summary, everyone can see the study linked below.

Here is the actual science from the National

Institutes of Health listing a major study published

in the Nutritional Research and Practice journal.

“During a 14-year follow up period, 857 subjects developed

type 2 diabetes. In men, frequent egg intake

(2- < 4 servings/week) was associated with a 40%

lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes than infrequent

egg intake (0- < 1 serving/week) (HR = 0.60, 95% CI: 0.37–0.97),

whereas no association between egg intake and incidence

of type 2 diabetes was observed in women

(HR = 0.61, 95% CI: 0.27–1.37). There was no association

between cholesterol intake and risk of incident type 2

diabetes in either men or women.”

Many Trump Supporters Are Suffering From PTSD.

noreply@blogger.com (Unknown) — Sat, 06 Mar 2021 00:54:00 +0000

[This was the last post I made on the AAAS general discussion forum. It and all other discussions were locked and a mandatory censorship scheme was started.]

There has been discussion of the mental health challenges facing
all the people who suffered through lock down, AND the impact
on children, AND the bereavement. All true. All a challenge. But the sort
of mental health challenge we have seen and dealt with before.

But what about what looks to me a lot like PTSD even with out the
Traumatic part?

I explain.

What is not getting enough of what i consider a critical consideration of
how we can address the massive amount of fear and cognitive dissonance among
Trump supporters which is really masking a new form of PTSD.

There are the regular Republicans who continue full throated defense and
seemingly don't connect their support of the party's platform, which is actually JUST
total support for anything Trump decides, with unquestioning support of
Golden Trump himself. Much of that is simply explained as politics as usual.

This is NOT a mental health problem.

But we are also facing the threat from the
presumably less intelligent Trump supporters who see absolutely
no contradiction in attacking any person with an Asian appearance
(Korean, Japanese, Chinese, etc.) because Trump talked about
the Kung-Flu.

These people presumably blame them for spreading a pandemic
WHICH THEY ALSO INSIST WAS A TOTAL HOAX!

It is a hoax, not real, but let's attack the people who didn't
cause this hoax.

That is a problem.
But it is a problem of stupidity and our terrible
educational system which ignores any suggestion of
teaching logic.

But the greatest organized physical threat to
the Republic is what looks like a new form of PTSD - fear, extreme
fear triggered by a minor event, even a completely imaginary event.

I am NOT attacking PTSD which is very real and a serious problem,
my cousin with FIVE bronze stars from WWII still showed signs in
his 80's. PTSD is REAL but ONLY when there has been actual Trauma.

But what about the white nationalists and such who "react" as if
they had severe PTSD but have no actual Trauma. They have no
Post Trauma, they just have the extreme fear reaction
based on nothing but propaganda.

They demonstrate extreme fear of blacks, Asians, Latinos, people with
a different sexual orientation, scientists, and so forth, not because
they have actually been harmed by any of them but a pre-emptive
attack based on a fear of what might happen. (Based on the ones I

personally know.)

This, along with all the other racism, sexism, and other Trump "isms" are actually
a mental health problem and must be treated as such.

Consider just how terribly frightened these racists and sexists must
be to want to kill anyone who even speaks out in support of human
rights?

Is there any explanation other than extreme fear for such an extreme reaction
to people merely asking that they get equal treatment? Not get shot in the back?

Not die of COVID because people won't wear a mask?

This isn't a political problem, this is a mental health problem.

Discuss?

Texans want to be free of Federal controls. What is the downside of secession?

noreply@blogger.com (Unknown) — Fri, 05 Mar 2021 23:23:00 +0000

Texas politicians at the top ignore medical advice from the CDC, Dr. Fauci, and the WHO

Even their own medical experts warn COVID is still dangerous but they keep opening up so more people catch COVID which gives COVID a better chance to mutate into a version which is deadlier, transmits more easily, and may not be stopped by any of the vaccines, even the J&J vaccine which is known to be highly effective against the fastest spreading variant, the so called UK COVID.

That might be fine Texas was a separate country and Texans didn’t flit around the country like residents of every other state and commonwealth.

We know COVID is mutating and the mutations are dangerous. We also know if the virus doesn't replicate in human bodies it can't mutate. So Texas politicians say OK, lets help COVID spread!

We still have 1,500 dead Americans each day due to COVID and largely due to a refusal to take common sense safety measures - far better to blame Democrats than fix the problem. Dead people can't vote you out of office anyway.

POWER

Texas refused to join the “national” grid in the 30’s when it was instituted because of the giant hydroelectric systems such as Hoover Dam and the TVA.

Joining would require the Texas power generators to obey federal regulations such as how the grid is designed and what safety measures are included to prevent what just happened in Texas which included home and business owners facing $10,000 electric bills vs perhaps $300 a year ago.

Texas wouldn’t have been required to help their neighbors except in small amounts and during extreme conditions such as Texas is experiencing these past three weeks.

Texas would also be assisted during such a crisis, the way neighbors are doing right now although not very well because the Texas grid isn't integrated with the rest of the country.

Independence - GREAT,

BUT In 2016 Texas’ second largest income source was grants from the Federal Government.

So much for complete independence (a.k.a. Heads I win, tails you lose - that is, give me benefits of being in the union but don’t expect us to help out others.)

During and after hurricane Harvey the U.S. “Coast Guard deployed 2,060 personnel, 50 aircraft, 75 boats and 29 cutters, rescuing 11,022 people and 1,384 pets. FEMA assigned 28 Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) teams from across the nation to deploy to Texas to assist state and local agencies with the lifesaving mission.” FEMA.

So, what is the downside of Texas getting what they apparently want there - let Texas petition to secede. Except when they face a disaster that is what they insist they want.

Sure, they produce oil, let them, we can buy from Texas just like every other country we buy from.

If they petitioned for independence I bet Texas could get a nearly unanimous vote.

I don’t hate Texas or Texans. I just want to give them what they want.

Personally, I would help them pack.

WHO Should You Trust? Politicians, ministers, actors, sports stars, Doctors, Ph.D.s?

noreply@blogger.com (Unknown) — Fri, 05 Mar 2021 04:23:00 +0000

Just who should you believe when they speak or especially

when they promote something you don't quite understand?

Politicians? Ministers? Actors? Sports Stars?

NO.

But what about MDs or all those educated people

with Ph.D.’s? Any idea how “smart” those people are?

You probably think they are among the smartest

people around.

See below, it will probably shock and amaze you. Possibly

confirm some deep, dark suspicions.

We should all know never to trust anything any politician says.

Some of them are honest and tell the truth, but how do you

determine which ones deserve your trust? Choosing a party isn't

the way to decide.

We should also know that TV ads or really any commercials are totally

untrustworthy but very carefully choose their words so they

don't get into legal trouble. Instead they hint or say something

highly suggestive if you don't.

One ad says half, "1 in 2 kids are under hydrated."

Kids WHERE? Doesn't say in the U.S.

Doesn't say what under hydrated means, it is not

a medical term.

Actually half of kids get thirsty every day in fact, EVERY person tends to get

thirsty every day..

There are lots of ads scaring parents that their kids aren't eating

enough protein, or fried food, or something.

I have found that kids are like cats, none except those with serious

medical or mental health problems will starve in the presence of

a mix of foods.

If they don't like peas, let them eat the rest of the meal.

If they keep it up, give them nothing BUT peas or broccoli,

etc. for dinner a few days.

That won't stunt their growth or put them in the hospital, or

any of the dire problems ads for children's yogurt and such

say will happen.

Consider that companies never advertise anything you actually need.

Ever see an ad for "Food"" "Meat"? "Clothing"? No, what

you actually see are ads for a specific kind of food, "someone's"

sausages. Not "potatoes" only "Idaho" potatoes.

For example, a feminine wash product (product ads go in cycles,

it is apparently time for these again, the last big surge

of women and their daughters having heart to heart talks on TV

about how they keep clean was a decade ago.)

The commercial says it is "tested" by gynecologists.

OK, WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? "Tested,"

NOT "approved". If it were tested and approved, or

medically required, or even useful, they would say so.

What does "tested" mean? Used as a dish cleaner?

Window cleaner? Used as shaving cream?

They only hint which the FTC can't prosecute them for.

Here is something you may not have considered.

A disturbing number of people automatically tend

to believe sports "heroes."

(What is HEROIC about having some physical skill and

taking a lot of money for it? Nothing wrong with that, but

how is that heroic?)

Doctors Scientists, and Ph.D.’s

But what about the people who are supposed to be so smart?

Yes, believe MDs about their field of medicine.

Yes, believe a scientist somewhat about his/her

Specialty.

Yes, the same for those holding doctorates.

But outside their extremely narrow field of expertise?

just how smart do you think a doctor or

college professor really is?

Some are quite smart, but half of them

are not nearly as smart as you think.

To join MENSA you must be in the top 2%

of those who take tests. That translates

to an approximate IQ of 130 - remember,

the AVERAGE is always 100, by definition.

MENSA membership doesn't make you special,

it just says you can take and finish tests quickly.

But by definition, Mensan's are smart.

Now comes the shocker, HALF of those

With an earned Ph.D. and about 48% of

Medical doctors couldn’t get into a MENSA

beer party or serious conference except

as a GUEST.

That’s right, the average IQ of a Ph.D. in the U.S. is

128 and the average IQ of an MD is 130.

That simply means half of them are very smart indeed

but also that half of them are only of average intelligence

(between about 90 and 110).

I always bear that in mind when hearing people

repeat some nonsense just because they

have a Ph.D. in some field NOT related to

their opinion.

Climate Change, Too Late To Beg Politicians - Time To Follow The Pentagon And Begin Preparation For The Inevitable.

noreply@blogger.com (Unknown) — Wed, 03 Mar 2021 23:23:00 +0000

As for climate change, I worked on it for decades even in an official capacity as an emergency management coordinator.

It is too late to change what will happen

by 2050. Politicians simply can't move

fast enough, even countries which agreed with

the Paris agreement have totally failed to

to meet the goals they agreed to.

It is time to stop wasting time, money, and effort

on fighting short term climate change and

focus our energy on preparing for inevitable

financial and social changes we or our

descendants will face.

Working to make long-term changes would be

useful but that will occur naturally

as Red states are washed away (GRIN).

I wrote a book about this and am working on

the second volume now.

"Preparing for Climate Change

Coastal flooding will cost the U.S. billions of dollars within two decades."

second edition ebook https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TYTG6ZC

[excerpt below]

As far back as 2014 the U.S. military saw climate change as the

biggest strategic threat they faced.

https://www.acq.osd.mil/eie/downloads/CCARprint_wForward_e.pdf

In 2010 the Pentagon saw global climate change as a force multiplier.

http://trumancenter.org/doctrine-blog/7-real-consequences-of-climate-change-as-told-by-the-pentagon/

1. More frequent and intense severe weather abroad will require disaster relief efforts, increasing requests for U.S. assistance.

2. Prolonged droughts here at home will affect base operations, decreasing the readiness of our troops.

"Utah wildfires Millions of Americans have already felt firsthand the effects of longer and more extreme droughts, and the military is no exception. Essential training exercises that involve live ammunition have been suspended for months on end due to fire risk, meaning that troops are not getting the preparation they need."

3. Scarce resources will threaten to collapse weak governments, strengthening extremist groups.

4. Warming temperatures will increase the range of tropical diseases, spurring more global health crises.

6. Rising ocean tides and other climate change consequences will damage military facilities here, costing an already budget-constrained military millions of dollars in adaptation efforts.

(30 of our military sites will require significant adaptation measures)

second edition ebook https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TYTG6ZC

[excerpt]

There are 300,000 coastal U.S. properties which, if purchased today with a 30-year mortgage, will be worthless by the end of the mortgage and by 2099 will cost the United States more than $1 trillion of lost property value. The complete situation including bank failures and infrastructure destruction will be much worse.

This booklet is about how you and your community can prepare for climate change.

You'll find the latest measurements and estimates to help families, investors, and government officials prepare for the inevitable.

Whether you believe the earth is warming because of human action or not, this booklet is still for you.

Whatever the cause, whatever you believe, everyone can see:
Summers are getting hotter
Storms are getting worse and more frequent.
Floods are getting worse.
The growing seasons are changing.
Glaciers are melting.
And the sea is rising - records go back for centuries.

This booklet is NOT an argument about what causes climate change.

This is also NOT about whether or how we can combat climate change. It is almost certainly too late to make any useful changes and the climate will continue to change for at least the next 50 to 100 years with consequences stretching into the next millennium.

Restarting this blog especially for new AAAS members but not limited to them.

noreply@blogger.com (Unknown) — Wed, 03 Mar 2021 18:39:00 +0000

Welcome to the restart of CommonSense (someone seems

to have captured my URL so you can see the new one here.

After extreme censorship was imposed with no warning

I could only contact a few AAAS members

because I have your contact info, please

share this with others you know.

I appreciate the kind comments from AAAS members who

emailed me.

Some have asked if I have a blog.

Therefore I have restarted CommonSense to

carry something like the AAAS discussions.

https://siliconsamurai.blogspot.com/

It won't be complaints about AAAS, unless

someone wants to discuss that

, I will

be posting my usual topics and comments.

Since this takes time away from writing my books

I will wait through the weekend to see if

there is any interest either by adding comments

or suggesting in comments new topics for discussion.

Being semi-retired I am mostly pursuing those

venues which promise the most readership.

I will add a new topic in the blog when something

catches my eye, mostly in the area of science.

If there isn't sufficient interest in this blog, those who want

to follow me

can get my Amazon books for free if you are Prime mem

members, If not free, they are all priced as low as possible.

You can join my Twitter followers

@siliconsamurai

Or follow me on Newsblaze.

Some of my old "View from Highland Ranch"

columns appear in the old posts here in CommonSense.

The View was written with my lead donkey who knew

a jackass when he saw one.

If something catches my eye in the next few days or

if someone sends an interesting topic idea I will post

a new discussion idea in the blog..

In any case it was great fun sharing with you

all on the old AAAS Community Forum but

all good things come to an end.

Feel free to continue contacting me via email.

I count you all as online friends.

BTW, having written many books and more than 18,000 paid,

bylined articles, reviews, columns, editorials, etc. if asked I

will share some ideas about writing.

Many/most of the Trump posts have been removed, not

sad news best left to history now.

Why I dropped Science (the magazine) because of the extreme censorship imposed

noreply@blogger.com (Unknown) — Wed, 03 Mar 2021 00:19:00 +0000

Some have asked me why I am not

renewing Science since their extreme censorship of the

discussion groups is unrelated.

This is the same organization so I now have some

questions about how they approach filtering the

science they publish in Science, my real reason

for not paying even my discounted retired, elderly

rate, the money goes to the people who developed AND

enforce the censorship and I decline to

support meaningless censorship in any way.

Other comments/thoughts, welcome.

and Brazil. (although Google Analytics does

NOT track identities or even IPs of visitors,

it does try to indicate the geographic location of
