Dying Light

Easiest way for me to set this one up: Mirror's Edge meets Dead Island. That's right, the team behind Dead Island (and the not-so-good Dead Island Riptide) is back with a new publisher (Warner Bros.) to bring current and next-generation consoles a new zombie story that combines what can only be described as parkour gameplay and zombie-killing.

Here's the kicker: At night, the zombies get even crazier, so you'll have to play the game much differently when the sun goes down. I got to play around 20 minutes of Dying Light and was convinced that the team had something special brewing. See for yourself when it hits in 2014.

Batman: Arkham Origins

There's some concern about Batman: Arkham Origins, mainly because the series' original developer, Rocksteady Games, is no longer behind the wheel. Instead, Warner Bros. Games Montreal is heading up the project, albeit with same engine Rocksteady was using. I got to see and play Arkham Origins and was relieved to find that most of its entertaining gameplay was kept in tact.

But what I really enjoyed seeing was a new crime scene construction mechanic the game introduces, which adds on to what has already been in the games. But with this expansion, players can now use Bruce Wayne's detective prowess to virtually rewind time and discover events that have already taken place.

Batman: Arkham Origins hits all platforms on October 25.

The Evil Within

Could it be that survival horror is back? Maybe. Shinji Mikami, the creator of Resident Evil, has started his own studio called Tanjo Gameworks and hopes to breath new life into the genre. And when I say new life, I mostly mean blood and death. His new game, The Evil Within, was the absolute most frightening thing I saw at E3 2013, let alone in a very long time.

In the few minutes of gameplay I experienced, I witnessed a handful of things I simply couldn't unsee. The Evil Within will not only explore some pretty wicked torture and stealth, but also attempt to psychologically unravel the player with illusions and other trickery. The Evil Within will hit consoles -- both current and next-gen -- in 2014.

The team behind the amazing Super Mario Galaxy games has been working hard on Super Mario 3D World, the first time we're ever seeing a 3D Mario game in HD. Crazy, right? What I loved about playing Super Mario 3D World was that I could choose any of the classic Nintendo four-player roster, identical to the options in Super Mario Bros. 2. Speaking of that classic game, each player will have a similar special ability.

Super Mario 3D World will also be completely playable in off-TV mode and work with up to four players simultaneously. Look for it on the Wii U when it releases this December

Quantum Break

Developer Remedy already has one of the most anticipated games of the next-generation, and we've only scraped the surface of seeing what the game will actually play like. However, in the short time we all saw the game, the studio has made a very compelling case for our attention.

Quantum Break will deal with elements of quantum physics and time manipulation, while being presented in a TV episodic format in some capacity. The developer has earned the reputation of one to watch, so I'm confident Quantum Break will bring its own special brand of fun when it's released exclusively on the Xbox One next year.

Dead Rising 3

I was not a big fan of Dead Rising 2 because it seemed like a game that had lost its way. The team at Blue Castle Games says it realizes that and has shifted some of the focus for Dead Rising 3, the upcoming Xbox One exclusive.

Dead Rising 3 puts zombies first, making them the star of the game instead of the ridiculous ways you can customize your character. Sure, that side of the game is still in there, but the focus this time will be capturing the mood of a zombie apocalypse. Dead Rising 3 is grittier, gloomier, and way more intense. Did I mention it's the size of Dead Rising 1 and 2 combined and then some?

Watch Dogs

This is the second E3 in a row for Watch Dogs. With just a few months from its November release, the game had a line wrapped around the Ubisoft booth with people waiting hours to get only a glimpse of what the game will look like. This relatively short demo was a lot of the same stuff I saw in May, but highlighted by the introduction of a real-time hacking that allows another player to interfere with your single-player campaign.

Word of the first game from ex-Infinity Ward members (and their new studio Respawn) leaked just days before the doors opened at E3 2013, but those small details could do nothing to chip away at the hype this game has been able to muster.

Once the user clicks it, it executes and gives the hacker the control of the person’s computer in background. Usually the firewall detects it but lately such Trojans have been made that are undetectable with the use of ‘crypters’. But these are hard to come by and usually very advanced hackers have access to that kind of software. One thing to remember is that firewall is not to be disabled under any circumstances. If you are very sure about the sender or a website, only then you may disable your firewall to receive some file.

Office 2013 is the latest refresh of Microsoft's near ubiquitous Office suite. The latest version sees it get the Windows 8 treatment, with a touch-friendly interface and a sparser look, as well as new features in every application.

While the main thing you'll notice with Office 2013 the new look, there are some really interesting features under the hood - though sadly not for Windows XP users, who are now excluded. Office 2013 is strictly for Windows 7 and Windows 8 users.

As usual, there are multiple versions of Office 2013, but this time around the different editions are not just about whether you're using them at home or in a business or which applications are included.

Buying Office 2013

Even if you decide you want to buy a pay-for-it-once-and-keep-it copy of Office 2013 in a box, you won't find a DVD inside – just a product key to unlock the software you download. (Buyers in "developing countries with limited internet access" can still get a DVD, but that's not an option in the UK or US.)

If you prefer to pay an annual subscription to get extra features, Office 365 editions let you download the Office 2013 applications onto multiple PCs (or share them with your family).

For home users, there are four options. Buy the boxed software and you can put it on one PC. Office Home and Student 2013 with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote costs £109.99/$139.99; Office Home and Business 2013 adds Outlook and costs £219.99/$219.99. Office Professional 2013 has the full set of programs for £389.99/$399.99; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Access and Publisher.

Then there's the new subscription version that Microsoft released this week, Office 365 Home Premium, which costs you $99.99 a year for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Access and Publisher.
That's good value if you share it with the family; up to five people in the same household can have their own installations of Office on their PC or Mac at the same time (for the Office programs that run on a Mac – and Mac users get the current version of Office for Mac until a new release comes along in the future). And when the next version of Office comes out, you'll get it on the same subscription.
All five people get an extra 20GB of storage on SkyDrive to keep documents on and 60 free Skype world calling minutes a month (which can be calls to a landline or a mobile and from your PC or from a smartphone with Skype installed).

You can download the Office programs temporarily on another PC if you're away from your usual PC (even if it already has another version of Office installed). So if you have a document on a USB drive or on SkyDrive that you need to edit on another PC, and using the Office Web Apps from SkyDrive doesn't provide of the features you need (like seeing revision marks in a tracked document you're collaborating on), you can use Office on Demand to get the full version of Word in just a few minutes.
You manage all this from the revamped Office.com and there's a link to your account there in the ribbon of all the Office applications. (To activate the Skype minutes you have to link your account to the Microsoft account you're using for Office 365, which can be done on the Office.com site.)
You also get a list of your recently edited documents, which helps when using Office on Demand to give it a fresh edit.
If you're at college or university (or you teach at one) it's possible to get Office 365 University on a four-year subscription for $79.99 that you can use on up to two PCs or Macs.
Also, as you might expect, Office 2013 and Office on Demand only run on Windows 7 and 8, not on XP or Vista.

Office for business

Although Office 365 Home Premium might also sound like a great deal for a small business, it's not licensed for commercial use (Like the Windows RT versions of Office 2013) unless you already have an Office business licence. Instead, you need one of the Office 365 business subscriptions, available from February 27.

These will include the new Office 2013 versions of Exchange, SharePoint and Lync Online, which are already available to run on your own servers. It's taking some time for Microsoft to upgrade Office 365 to run these new server versions, which explains the later availability (there are a number of issues in SharePoint the Office 365 team is working on). We've tried these out with the Office 2013 applications (and we looked at SharePoint Online 2013 in more detail here.

Office 365 Small Business Premium includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Access, Publisher and Lync. The annual $149.99 subscription lets you run them on up to five PCs or Macs at once (again, you can use Office on Demand to download Office to any PC you're using temporarily, and you get regular updates and new features).

You can host online meetings with audio and HD video conferencing in Lync and run a public website on SharePoint, plus you get Exchange with a 25GB mailbox for each user and SkyDrive Plus storage on SharePoint.

That gives you 10GB of secure cloud storage with an extra 500MB for each user, but you can choose how the storage is allocated between users and you can control how they use it – like forcing them to encrypt confidential documents.

Office 365 ProPlus (short for Professional Plus), is aimed at midsize businesses (10-250 employees) and includes the same desktop Office software as Small Business Premium. But it also has tools for business intelligence, consistency checking to Excel and automated deployment, as well as more options for the SharePoint, Lync and Exchange Online services.

Office 365 Enterprise has the full Office 2013 set of features in the desktop software and SharePoint, Lync and Exchange Online services, like archiving, legal hold, Data Loss Prevention and rights management to protect confidential information.

If you're looking for five or more copies of Office 2013 and you don't want the Office 365 services at all, you can buy Office Standard 2013 (with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook with Business Contact Manager, Publisher, the Office Web Apps and limited Lync, SharePoint and rights management services) or Office Professional Plus 2013 (with the full range of desktop Office programs and server features) through volume licensing.

We've already looked at the final (RTM) version of the Office 2013 applications. Now we've been able to try out the Office 365 Home Premium service with the new Office.com site, where you can download some of the new Office apps (although the apps for Outlook won't work until you have Exchange 2014).

The film also stars Meg Ryan and Adam Brody.

In “In the Land of Women,” you are a painter, but what are your real-life hobbies?

I read a lot of books, and I'm a writer. That's what I'm mainly into. I just love putting the words together. I'm really in love with words. I play guitar; I love going to shows. I'm kind of a homebody.

What is your favorite book?

I actually have two. I just finished Cannery Row by John Steinbeck, which was really intense. The other is The Stranger by Albert Camus, that was heavy.

You've worked with Jodie Foster and now Meg Ryan. How were those experiences?

So different. I was little when I worked with Jodie, so I wasn't taking notes. Just being around someone like that for months when you're so young and such a sponge ... she probably affected the way I work.

Jodie doesn't take things too seriously, she just acts. I mean, of course, she thinks about it, but Meg takes things very seriously - in the best way. You can tell she really cares about her work a lot, and that's really important.

In terms of acting styles, was it very different working with Meg, Adam and Makenzie Vega?

They were all so different. Working with Adam and Makenzie was a lot of fun, but my scenes with Meg were intense. There was a lot of tension between us, a lot of distance. I liked working with her; I felt we were both very satisfied with what came out. After a scene with Meg it was like, “Oh, we nailed it.”

What is your relationship with your mother like? Will your new movie help mothers and daughters better understand each other?

I'm really lucky, because I have a picture-perfect relationship with my parents. But I definitely see my friends in Lucy and her mom's relationship, I feel like that dynamic is very typical. This movie will open people's eyes.

How do you choose roles?

It's always different. The movies I've been interested in have been because of the prospect of working with the filmmaker and a certain director. Sometimes I'll do a movie because there are one or two scenes I really want to do, something that's different. I think it's important to do movies that are worth watching, something that makes you think.

If you weren't acting, what would you do?

I would want to write screenplays. But, if I had to have a practical job, if acting fell through, I couldn't imagine working anywhere but on a movie set. I would want to work in props or the art department.

What advice would you give others interested in acting?

If there is anything you really want to do, you have to give it a shot. Otherwise you're going to hold onto it forever and just regret it. You should have no regret.

People always ask actors for advice and it's like wow, you're asking us? I don't know how enlightening we can be. We're just people.
