Tο πρόγραμμα ‘Διαβάζοντας τις Γραμμές’, σε συνεργασία με το Σύνδεσμο Παιδικού και Νεανικού Βιβλίου, οργανώνει μια σειρά από δωρεάν εργαστήρια δημιουργικής γραφής ανοιχτά σε νέους στην Κύπρο (15-35). Τα εργαστήρια διεξάγονται σε μια φιλική και υποστηρικτική ατμόσφαιρα και έχουν σκοπό να ενημερώσουν, να ενθαρρύνουν και να δώσουν ερεθίσματα στους συμμετέχοντες/στις συμμετέχουσες να χρησιμοποιήσουν την δημιουργική γραφή ως ένα μέσο κοινωνικής κριτικής και παρέμβασης. Η Ελένη Αρτεμίου-Φωτιάδου, ποιήτρια και πεζογράφος, προσφέρει ένα ενεργητικό εργαστήριο σχετικά με το πώς η αφήγηση μπορεί να χρησιμοποιηθεί ως ένα αποτελεσματικό μέσο για την ανάδειξη και αύξηση της ευαισθητοποίησης όσον αφορά σε θέματα κοινωνικής, πολιτιστικής και πολιτικής σημασίας.

15 Ιουνίου Εργαστήρι Δημιουργικής Γραφής από τον Gürgenç Korkmazel

O Gürgenç Korkmazel, συγγραφέας και ποιητής, συζητά τις προκλήσεις που αντιμετωπίζει ένας κοινωνικά συνειδητοποιημένος καλλιτέχνης και προσφέρει ένα διαδραστικό εργαστήρι σχετικά με το πώς η δημιουργική γραφή μπορεί να χρησιμοποιηθεί ως ένα μέσο προς επίτευξη κοινωνικών αλλαγών.

Όλα τα εργαστήρια ξεκινούν στις 11:00 π.μ. και τελειώνουν στις 13:00 μ.μ. στο Σπίτι της Συνεργασίας, Μάρκου Δράκου 28, Ουδέτερη Ζώνη, Λευκωσία, 1102. Δωρεάν αντίτυπα έργων των καλλιτεχνών θα δοθούν σε όλους του συμμετέχοντες/τις συμμετέχουσες.

To πρόγραμμα ‘Reading the Lines: the Transformative Power of Words’ («Διαβάζοντας τις γραμμές: η Δύναμη του Λόγου για Αλλαγή») αξιοποιεί αρχές της παιδαγωγικής κριτικού γραμματισμού με σκοπό να ενθαρρύνει και να καθοδηγήσει τους νεαρούς Κύπριους να χρησιμοποιήσουν δημιουργική γραφή / αφήγηση ως ένα περίτεχνο εργαλείο για να εκφραστούν για θέματα τα οποία τους είναι σημαντικά. Λογοτεχνικά έργα που αντικρίζουν τις αδικίες της εποχής μας συμβάλλουν στη δημιουργία μιας γενιάς κοινωνικά ενεργών δημιουργών, οι οποίοι χρησιμοποιούν τον λόγο για να εκφράζονται σε θέματα για τα οποία νιώθουν έντονα, συμμετέχοντας ενεργά στην κοινωνική κριτική.

Σας καλούμε να υποβάλετε μια κοινωνικής πλοκής σύντομη ιστορία, η οποία βρίσκεται σε αλληλεπίδραση αλλά και θίγει κοινωνικά φαινόμενα ή αδικίες της εποχής μας. Αφηγηθείτε μια ιστορία, η οποία να αναφέρεται σε ένα σημαντικό για σας θέμα, όχι πέραν των 1500 λέξεων, που να καταπιάνεται δημιουργικά με θέματα κοινωνικής, πολιτικής ή πολιτιστικής σημασίας. Για παράδειγμα, την εμπορία ανθρώπων, την παιδική κακοποίηση, την παιδική εργασία, τον εκφοβισμό, τα περιβαλλοντικά προβλήματα, τον ρατσισμό, την παγκόσμια φτώχεια, τον πόλεμο, την τρομοκρατία, την ανεργία και άλλα. Ψάχνουμε για δυνατά αφηγηματικά κείμενα (σύντομες ιστορίες), τα οποία συμβάλλουν στην ανάδειξη τέτοιων προβλημάτων μέσω της τέχνης της αφήγησης. Στους νικητές θα δοθούν χρηματικά βραβεία (300€, 200€, 100€) καθώς και βιβλία λογοτεχνίας.

Όροι συμμετοχής

Στον διαγωνισμό μπορούν να πάρουν μέρος άτομα κάτοικοι Κύπρου, 15-35 ετών.
Το κείμενο μπορεί να είναι στην ελληνική, τουρκική ή αγγλική γλώσσα.
Το κείμενο δεν πρέπει να ξεπερνά τις 1500 λέξεις.
Τελευταία ημερομηνία συμμετοχής η 9η Ιουνίου 2013.

Τρόπος υποβολής: Το κείμενο να αποσταλεί στην ηλεκτρονική διεύθυνση readingthelines@hotmail.com ως συνημμένο αρχείο word, με διπλό διάστημα μεταξύ των γραμμών, σε γραμματοσειρά Arial 12pt. Ο τίτλος του αφηγήματός σας να είναι στο πάνω μέρος του κειμένου. Στον κορμό του ηλεκτρονικού μηνύματος να αναφέρετε μόνο το όνομα και την ηλικία σας.

Ο διαγωνισμός πραγματοποιείται από τον Κυπριακό Σύνδεσμο Παιδικού και Νεανικού Βιβλίου εξ ονόματος του προγράμματος «Διαβάζοντας τις Γραμμές». Use this picture as a source of inspiration to write a short story of 1500 words maximum and send it to readingthelines@hotmail.com by the 9^th of December 2012 to get a chance to win 300€, 200€ and 100€ as well as books of youth literature. You will also have the opportunity to get your work published in a forthcoming collection of stories, scheduled for release in January 2013!

Here are some further prompts which can get the creative process going:

Describe an imaginary encounter with a person/group you have long considered different than you.
Think of something you consider as a stereotype regarding a particular person/group and start your story with that sentence.
You are in a room full of people and you are the only one who is ………….. there. Describe your feelings and what is happening.
Use the following quote in your story: ‘Don’t be afraid of what is different and unfamiliar, but fear of what’s inside you’

Terms:

Open to: people residing in Cyprus, ages 15 to 35 (also to students who are temporarily abroad)
Permitted languages: Greek, Turkish or English
Word limit: 1500 words maximum

Στις 26/4/06, έγραψες σε ανώνυμο σχόλιό σου:

«Ε όχι... Τραγούδια από την παράδοση της Κύπρου στον σύγχρονο κόσμο περιέχει, όπως λένε οι παραγωγοί του, ο νέος δίσκος των Αλκίνοου Ιωαννίδη και Μιλτιάδη Παπαστάμου «΄Που Δύσην ως Ανατολήν» με καραμπινάτο ορθογραφικό λάθος στον τίτλο, η αιτιατική καθαρευούσης της Δύσεως είναι Δύσιν, ουδέποτε συναντάται με «η» ούτε εις την παραδοσιακήν Κυπριακήν. Στην παράδοση της γλώσσας υπήρξαν πολλοί αγράμματοι καθαρευουσιάνοι, στην διαχρονία της (σήμερα δηλαδή) υπάρχουν πολλοί αγράμματοι δημοτικιστές. Αν είναι και κουλτουριάρηδες...»

Δε συνηθίζω να απαντώ ούτε σε "καλά" ούτε σε "κακά" δημοσιεύματα, ιδιαίτερα όταν ασχολούνται με το καλλιτεχνικό περιεχόμενο της εργασίας μου. Αφού ανέλαβα όμως τη γλωσσική επιμέλεια του εν λόγω δίσκου, αντικείμενο έξω από τις συνήθεις μου δραστηριότητες, έχω και την ευθύνη, αγαπητέ ανώνυμε συντάκτη, να απαντήσω."

At the same time he is a prisoner of the assumptions and dogmas of his time, which he does not question, because he has never been told they exist. He does not know that he is already moulded by a system: he does not know that the choice itself is the result of a false dichotomy rooted in the heart of our culture. It just makes me think whether this is what we are experiencing subconsciously in Cyprus. Young people coming up with new ideas, visions for the future, but feeling suppressed by a social mechanism that refuses to change. And in return, we end up adapting and reproducing the same powerful structure, which we were dissatisfied with in the first place.
Do we often end up "settling" because it's easier?

Téa Obreht: The Tiger's Wife

The Orange Prize for Fiction, the UK’s only annual book award for fiction written by a woman, announced the 2011 shortlist in April. Celebrating its sixteenth anniversary this year, the Prize celebrates excellence, originality and accessibility in women’s writing from throughout the world.

One of the 6 shortlisted authors is Téa Obreht, who is running for the prestigious Prize with her book The Tiger's Wife. The Tiger's Wife, her first novel, is a vividly imagined work that draws on the folk culture of the Balkans, where Obreht was born. She lived in Yugoslavia until the age of 7, when the war prompted Obreht, her mother and grandparents to flee to Cyprus and Egypt. She now lives in Ithaca, New York. Among her many influences she includes the novelist Gabriel Garcia Marquez, the Yugoslav Nobel Prize winner Ivo Andric, Ernest Hemingway, and the children's writer Roald Dahl.

The Tale of Beatrix Potter (1866–1943)

We recently found a little treasure in a a large skip in our neighbourhood. Among other things thrown in there (most of them in perfectly good condition) there was a wealth of childrens' books, so we salvaged them.

We gave most away, but I decided to keep 3 of them for myself. They are 3 stories by Beatrix Potter. It broke my heart that anyone would throw them in the trash.

I am a sucker for good stories and looking back, I think that Beatrix Potter's stories, among others, must have played a major part in the moulding of my baby brain. Peter Rabbit was one of my first heroes, and the adventures of Benjamin Bunny, Flopsy, Tiptoes, Mr.Tod and Tom Kitten filled my head in the most colourful way, aided of course by Potter's lovingly crafted illustrations.

But while so many people have known and loved her stories, few know about Potter's own tale, her life and her scientific aspirations. As an aspiring zoologist myself (apart from an established sucker for good stories), I feel that, like her characters, she has become one of my present heroes.

Her parents didn't let her go to school and appointed her as their housekeeper, and she was rejected by the male-dominated scientific establishment of the time on the basis of gender. Despite everyone's disapproval and hinderance, she still went for it, fought for her work and for her own place in science.

She managed to become an expert mycologist, and was one of the first people to recognize that lichens were the product of a symbiotic relationship between a fungus and an alga. She made remarkable, detailed drawings of fossils, archaeological finds, mosses and lichens, wild flowers, microscope drawings and, most importantly, fungi. Despite being ignored by male scientists, she managed to get a paper presented to the Linnean Society by her chemist uncle (she wasn't allowed at the meeting ofcourse). In her later years, she became a farmer and sheep breeder and was involved in preserving the ecology and natural beauty of the Lake District.

If she was given a break, she would have probably been a successful professional botanist or mycologist and made a great contribution to science. She earns my respect for developing her talents and intelligence the best way she could with what she had, trying hard for what she wanted, and outshining everyone else's expectations of her anyway.

She gave a lot of land to the National Trust, she donated her scientific illustrations to the Armitt Trust, and she left us with the wealth of her books and her wonderful stories. She also left people in general, but women in particular, an invaluable inheritance- her own graceful battle against the establishment.

(So if you're ever thinking of throwing Peter Rabbit in the bin, don't. Or else.)

The Little Prince (French: Le Petit Prince), published in 1943, is Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s most famous novel.

Though considered to be a children’s book by many, The Little Prince makes several profound and idealistic observations about life and human nature.

In its glorification of childlike innocence, The Little Prince is also an indictment of the spiritual decay Saint-Exupéry perceived in humanity.

The writer urges his readers to participate actively in the reading process, using their imaginations to assign deeper meaning to deceptively simple prose and poetry.

Saint-Exupéry and his novel were certainly affected by the historical events of the time, but The Little Prince aspires to be a universal and timeless allegory about the importance of innocence and love. Indeed, since it was first published, The Little Prince has become one of the most widely translated books in the history of French literature (180 languages).
