1. Identify the lady, who was the very first footballer of Indian origin to have represented England at any level.

Answer: Amanprit "Aman" Kaur Dosanj is a former English football goalkeeper. In playing for England U-16s, she became the first British Asian footballer, of either gender, to represent England at any level.

2. This Midfielder of Indian origin started of his career with Leicester City FC and was part of the team from 2009 to 2011, although he never made an official appearance for the club. Currently, he plays for Torquay United, on loan from Kidderminster Harriers. Identify him.

Answer: The player is Aman Kumar Verma. Verma started his career at Leicester City in their youth academy and was contracted to them for 2 years. However, he failed to break into the first team squad and was eventually released. His only showing for City was as a substitute in a 4–3 League Cup win over Macclesfield on 10 August 2010.

3. This Defensive Midfielder is a full international for his country of residence and is nicknamed as his country's "Iniesta". He has plied his trade in the top division clubs of The Netherlands and Denmark, apart from his home country and has also scored some spectacular goals from distance. Identify him.

Answer: Harmeet Singh, whose parents were born in Jalandhar, Punjab, is a Norwegian international footballer and has made 7 international appearances since 2012.

4. Probably the best of the lot at the current moment, he is a versatile Winger, who can play both at the right or the left flank. He is also a full international for one of the best international teams, but had to miss the last FIFA World Cup due to an injury. Currently, he plays for Dutch Eredivisie club PSV Eindhoven. Identify him.

Answer: Luciano Narsingh, who was born in Amsterdam. His grandparents were contract workers from India who were taken to work on plantations in Suriname. His older brother, Furdjel Narsingh, also plays professional football. He has scored 4 times for the Dutch National Team till date.

5. He is an English professional footballer of Indian origin who plays as a Defender for League Two club Mansfield Town. He began his career with Walsall and had loan spells with Evesham United and York City. Identify him.

Answer: Malvind Singh Benning started his career with Walsall progressing through the youth system. After playing non-league football, in April 2012, he was offered his first professional contract by Walsall on a one-year deal.

Ahh! The first post of 2013! Unfortunately, due to real life work pressure, the posts have become totally irregular and it may continue for this month too. However, the very first question for the newest year comes up now.

The emblem, depicted in the picture on the right hand side, is owned by an entity, which has been the matter of dispute between two other sides for at least, the last 180 years approximately. The fissures between the sides have erupted periodically and the most recent one has been seen in very recent times.

The photo collage points to a serial killer, who was very active in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The killer's identity is still unknown.

During his reign of terror, the killer's victims included 5 confirmed dead and 2 injured, with the killer claiming to have killed at least 37 persons. His area of operation included the states of California and possibly, Nevada.

Answer: The answer is The Zodiac Killer. The Zodiac murdered victims in Benicia, Vallejo, Lake Berryessa and San Francisco between December 1968 and October 1969. Four men and three women between the ages of 16 and 29 were targeted. The killer originated the name "Zodiac" in a series of taunting letters sent to the local Bay Area press. These letters included four cryptograms (or ciphers). Of the four cryptograms sent, only one has been definitively solved.

I had to take a break for 9 days due to a hectic schedule, but, here I am back again!

The photo on the right hand side was taken by Hugh Lee Pattinson, an English industrial chemist, known in his time for the patent process for refining silver that bears his name. He was also an entrepreneur, sharing the risk of major industrial developments with famous ironmaster Isaac Lowthian Bell and cable manufacturer Robert Stirling Newall.

Tell me why this particular photograph, taken in 1840 is famous.

The picture shows a long-range siege gun used to bombard Paris during World War I. It was in service between March-August 1918. When it was first employed, Parisians believed they had been bombed by a new type of high-altitude zeppelin, as neither the sound of an airplane nor a gun could be heard. It was the largest piece of artillery used during the war by barrel length if not caliber, and is considered to be a supergun.

The ugly looking single-shot pistol had its origins in the Joint Psychological Committee and was designed in 1942 by the Inland Guide Lamp Manufacturing Division of an automobile manufacturer.

The original engineering drawings label the barrel as "tube", the trigger as "yoke", the firing pin as "control rod", and the trigger guard as "spanner". Ultimately, a million of these weapons were produced. Extra rounds of ammunition could be stored in the pistol grip.

A crude and clumsy weapon, it was never intended for front line service. It was originally intended as an insurgency weapon to be mass dropped behind enemy lines to resistance fighters in occupied territory. A resistance fighter was to recover the weapon, sneak up on an Axis occupier, kill or incapacitate him, and retrieve his weapons.

A very common sight in India till a few years ago, the pictured gun is a self loading battle rifle, firing the 7.62x51mm NATO cartridges.

The rifle is a derivative of the original Belgian battle rifle and has been used by the armies of the commonwealth nations for a long time. In India, these have been phased out by the INSAS 5.56 mm assault rifles, although some remain in service with the paramilitary forces and state police forces.

The revolver shown in the photo on the right hand side is meant for short range. It is a 'Break Action' self extracting revolver and uses the .32 Smith & Wesson Long (7.65 mm) cartridge.

A not very well-known assault rifle forms today's question.

As you can see from the picture, the design of the rifle seems to be inspired from the Soviet AK-47 assault rifle. However, it is optimized for operation in arid conditions and was selected as the winner of a competition beating the original, i.e. AK-47 itself.
