Archos 7 160 GB Internet Media Tablet

2009-09-06T17:32:00.002+07:00

By	F. Herbert

archos 7 160 GB

As an owner of both the new Archos 7 as well as last year’s model (the 705), I wanted to provide some points of comparison between the two for anyone trying to decide whether to save some money on the older model. In general, the two are very similar — they provide essentially the same functionality, although the new 7 includes a couple of new features (and includes for free some of the plugins that you had to pay for before with the 705).
Here’s a quick rundown of the positive changes in the 7 vs the 705:
* Speed — particularly of the web browser. The new 7 has a much faster CPU and renders web content at a much better pace (probably 3x the speed of the 705). Using the browser on the 705 was often painful except on pages that were geared to mobile devices. The 7 can handle even most complex pages without a problem. Since I use the device for browsing quite a bit, this is a HUGE plus for the 7.
* Email — The 7 includes a native email client that supports GMail, Yahoo mail or any POP/IMAP server. It’s very simple but usable. It’s also free (i.e. not a plugin).
* Better screen — The screen on the 7 definitely is crisper than that on the 705. And the colors are rendered more accurately (at least from my subjective point of view).
* Better responsiveness — The touchscreen on the 7 is more responsive than on the 705. The increased sensitivity really helps the usability. That said, people who use other touchscreen devices (e.g. iPhone) may find that the screen is still not as sensitive/responsive as other devices.
* Size — although the screen is the same size between the 2 units, the 7 is slightly shorter and thinner than the 705 (but not by much). The 7’s glossy case does collect fingerprints rather quickly, but that’s purely an aesthetic issue.
Advantages of the 705 over the 7:
* Archos dropped the mini-USB plug that was used to connect the Archos to your computer. It now uses a proprietary connector for this purpose.
* They also dropped the USB host port from that came with the 705. The 7 includes the USB host capability, but to use it you must purchase the DVR station or mini-dock add-ons. This was built-in directly in the 705 unit. This makes using the device to dump pictures from your digital camera more of a hassle as one more attachment must be carried just for this.
* They also dropped the video out connecter that was standard in the 705. Again, to use this feature with the 7 you’ll need the DVR station or mini-dock.
* No stylus or case included — I’ve found that using my finger generally works fine but a stylus is still better/more accurate on the screen. Luckily, the 705 came with 2 of them, so I use the spare with my 7. As for the case, you’ll have to buy one from Archos to a third party if you want/need one.
Things I wish they would have improved:
* Weight — this is one heavy device at nearly 1.5 lbs. Granted, the size makes carrying it in a pocket prohibitive, but the weight would do you in otherwise. Fine for a travel bag though and definitely much lighter than a laptop.
* Most plugins still not free — The browser plugin and “web radio/tv” plugins are now free, but to view many online videos and items ripped from DVD, you’ll need to plunk down extra $ for those plugins.
* Support for Flash 9 — The Archos ostensibly ships with support for Flash 9, but what they don’t tell you is that not all Flash 9.x versions are created equally. For example, while most clips on YouTube work, the version of Flash on the Archos does not support popular sites like Hulu. This for me is one of the largest disappointments of the Archos 7.
* No HD or 3G plugins available — despite what the product description days, the plugins that provides HD video thru the DVR dock (or mini-dock) and which support a 3G wireless connection thru a USB dongle do not actually exist. There’s also a very good chance they never will. Archos is notorious for promoting features which are never delivered. If either of these plugins is critical in your decision to purchase the Archos 7, you would be best off waiting until they are released before making the purchase.
For me, I use the 7/705 as a travel companion so I can watch videos, browse the web and store digital pictures. For web use, the 7 is a huge improvement. For videos, the better screen is a nice improvement, but for picture storage, the lack of the built-in USB host port and the need to carry the mini-dock is a bummer.

(The system is capable of 128-bit pixel precision and 1080p resolution for a full HD experience) This console also provides for an extreme sound experience by supporting Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1, as well as Linear PCM 7.1. Finally, it features cross connectivity with your PC network and PlayStation Portable (PSP) and its pre-installed, 120GB hard disc drive allows you to save games as well as download content from The Internet. 20 Mp3 Player

2009-04-03T23:19:00.003+07:00

The 20 GB mp3 player is no exception to this rule. IPod tends to dominate in the digital mp3 players world; however, Sony, Toshiba, San Disk, Samsung, and several others are joining in the fray.

Flash MP3 Player Builder is an easy and fast way to batch convert MP3 and WAV to small Flash SWF without losing quality, generate Flash MP3 Player for your website and blog (MySpace, Google Blog, MSN Blog and all other popular blogs) with ease.

The problem is for every player there are different music file formats. One will play WMA files while another will not. There is considerable overlap but there is no universal music file that a 20 GB mp3 player will play.

Knowledge of Macromedia Flash is not necessary and the Flash program is not required. This flash music player only supports MP3 music loops (must have sample rate of 44.1khz). should select MP3 music that is small in size so that your dial up site visitors don't have to wait for the music to play.

Creative Zen Touch MP3 20gb Player The Creative Zen player has plenty of features that make it desirable for consumers with large music libraries and an interest in bringing along that library wherever they go.

Dell DJ 20GB Gen 2 Digital Jukebox MP3 Player Review Take up to 20 Gigabytes of music with you wherever you go with this slim and sleek Dell DJ 20 Digital Jukebox MP3 Player!

The RaveMP 2100 wasn't only the biggest capacity player available, it also introduced a new feature we know from MP3 players today - voice recording. On top of that it had a feature to store and view phone numbers, and it shipped with Sennheiser headphones. Battery life was 10 hours on a single AA battery.

Developed by Compaq and released by HanGo, the PJB-100 was the first ever MP3 player to use a hard drive for storage instead of flash memory. This meant that instead of the normal 32/64MB capacity of that time, the player had a 4.86GB laptop hard drive.

Sony NW-HD1 20gbMP3 Player Leave it to Sony to produce an attractive and large MP3 20gb player. You can listen to three different types of music files with this player, including WAV, WMA, and MP3 files. You can listen to your MP3 20gb player for about 30 hours without having to recharge its battery.

Mp3 Zune

2009-04-02T20:23:00.000+07:00

Microsoft Zune MP3 players will be availabe soon. Microsoft Zune MP3 music player includes 30 gigabytes of file storage, USB 2.0 support, built-in 802.11b/g Wi-Fi connectivity, an FM Tuner and a 3-inch TFT LCD color screen! Zune digital media player from Microsoft is available in three colors: black, white and brown.

I had heard the Windows Media Player DRM and the Zune DRM were not going to be compatible. According to this Knowledge Base article, Zune supports Windows Media Player 10's DRM, but not WMP 11's. And "Zune software and devices only play protected music files from Zune Marketplace. ) That was bad enough.

A few years back Microsoft tried its hand in the portable music player market. Much like many of their other products, it was supposed to have a lot of different features but none of them really worked that well.

Microsoft mp3 Zune hard drive based memory is much larger than its flash counterparts are. These players come in 30 GB, 80 GB and 120 GB of memory. The smallest of these would rival the hard drive capacity of a home pc just a few years ago!

All I can say is Microsoft really needs to have a Vista update — or at least a public Vista support strategy — for Zune by the time the company does the business launch of Vista on November 30. ⁶

The granddaddy of these is the 120 GB Microsoft mp3 Zune player. It boasts memory capacity of 30,000 songs or 325 hours of video, that is more than enough storage for even the most avid media junky.

Newly released Zune software has been praised on all sides by the media and tech bloggers as better than iTunes. The Mix view option is the new music recommendation tool. Select an album in Zune software and the mix view will show recommendations and top listeners.

Changes have also been made to make Zune more reliable in the area of device syncing/detection. Finally, Microsoft has made changes to the way the FM tuner functions when a Zune is placed in sleep mode.

TuneClone let your remove DRM protection from purchased music files with a few clicks by using a virtual cd burning approach. You can play the these converted unprotected music files with Media Player or any MP3 players including Zune, Cell Phone, Pocket PC, etc.

TuneClone supports almost all music file formats that your media player software can play and burn. No matter they are DRM protected or not. And create unprotected MP3, WMA or WAV as output format.

With Zune's wireless technology, they seem to want to establish a strong social networking. But the next hot thing is the phone feature. iPhone is obviously to re-capture all the attentions of music player fans. We will see how Microsoft will counter Apple with their marketing strategy.

Microsoft announced that it is partnering with McDonald's to provide free wireless for Zune customers at about 10,000 restaurants. We weren't able to test how well the players respond to ketchup spills.

Along with adding odd features to a 256mb Mp3 Player companies are also making them into toys. Take a look at the Hello Kitty 256mb Mp3 Player available from Amazon.

This is an adorable if strange application for a 256mb Mp3 Player. The player is pretty much standard aside from it being in the form of a kitty, it has of course 256 MB of memory, plays Mp2, Mp3, WMA and WAV file types and is compatible with Windows 98, 2000 and XP.

If you are a Hello Kitty fan or just looking for something a bit different this 256mb Mp3 Player is right up your alley.

They manage to cram a lot of information on the screen, but it's all clear and easy to read. The progress bar on the bottom right is one item that I particularly appreciate, and miss on pretty much every other flash player.

At $250 for 30GB of storage, the Zune costs exactly as much as the latest 30GB video-capable iPod and the Zen Vision:M. Like most non-iPod players, it includes an FM tuner and supports MP3 and WMA music files, as well as WMV, MPEG-4, and H.264 video files.

Unlike many Windows-based players, the Zune also supports unprotected AAC files--a nice touch for anyone who's been ripping CDs using iTunes' default settings. On the other hand, Microsoft's player lacks a built-in voice recorder, which most Windows-based players include.

Actually the above answer is wrong. Many mp3 players have no hard drive. I've never heard of an mp3 player getting a virus either.

The Philips GoGear has a 30-hour audio capacity and 6-hour video capacity between charges. The model is simple to use and the sound and video quality is above standard. While it is not comparable to the iPod models, it is in my opinion a more versatile MP3/video player.

Shuffle Mp3

2009-03-27T16:48:00.000+07:00

After all the rumours and the fake pictures we finally have sight of the Ipod Shuffle MP3 Player, the flash based music device is Apples attempt to provide Gym dwellers and those who want a really small player with a piece of Apple technology.

Early in the game, the makers of iPod discovered that many users would leave their digital music players on random. They decided that a shuffle mp3 player could be made and it would be cost effective. Therefore, the iPod shuffle mp3 player was born and was the first iPod to use flash memory.

The very first generation iPod shuffle mp3 player was not much to look at. It was a simple audio player that came with a USB end built in, no need for cables just plug it into your home computer to get started.

At release the iPod shuffle mp3 player were priced near $150, today you can pick up a first gen for around $70.

Apple launched the digital audio player with many expectations. Its entry was mainly after getting an excellent name in the electronic market. The digital audio player iPod Shuffle Mp3 was designed and marketed by Apple Inc that marked the beginning of a revolution in the field of musical entertainment.

There were some formatting changes along with the design upgrade. In previous years, users had been able to use Mac or Windows format. This new shuffle mp3 player will give an error if brought up in Mac format.

Another change with the small design of the shuffle mp3 is that the USB is no longer built in; instead, the player comes with a dock that hooks up to the shuffle mp3 player through the headphone jack.

Originally released in only a brushed aluminum color six months after the release of the second-generation shuffle mp3 Apple introduced colors. No longer a dull chrome color you could now get an iPod shuffle mp3 player in blue, green, orange, or pink. These colors were soon replaced by turquoise, product red, mint green and lavender.

Apple is discontinuing its 2GB Shuffle introduced at last year's iPod event, but will continue to sell the older AU$65 1GB Shuffle, Joswiak said.

. Voice isn't a new feature. Remember last year whenApple included spoken menus on the iPod Nano? Then why are you calling the Shuffle the first MP3 player that talks to you? so, technically there have been a few MP3 players for the vision impaired that have already pulled this off.

I was looking for a player that was easy to use and this fits the bill. The next mp3 player i buy will be the shuffle with more room.

The iPod Shuffle can also be used as a USB flash drive.

In June 2005, the price for the first generation 1 GB iPod Shuffle was lowered to US$129. In February 2006, the prices for first generation iPod Shuffles were lowered.

Apparently the tiny iPod Shuffle wasn't tiny enough. Apple has unveiled a 4GB Shuffle that's half the size of its predecessor.

PMP devices, which is short for portable music player, is a term used to describe any digital portable music player that allows you to download or save digital music files (in MP3 format) from their computer to play on a PMP.

In an important decision, a Federal appeals court has partially answered that question by declaring that just as television viewers have the right to time-shift, computer users have the right to "space-shift" -- they can make additional copies of digital files they have obtained lawfully in order to listen to them in different places.

Today Portable Music Player devices come in all shapes. As if we didn't have enough terminology in this category of devices already, here is another acronym for you. Some PMP devices, like MP3 players, are also called DAP, short for digital audio player.

While not invented by Apple, it was Apple's line of iPod MP3 players that popularized the devices. With their distinctive white headphones and Lucite and chrome styling, coupled with extreme ease of use, iPods soon dominated the portable MP3 player market.

In addition to supporting the MP3 format, depending on the brand of player you buy, it might also support additional file types such as Windows Media Audio (WMA), Waveform Audio (WAV), Music Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI), Advanced Audio Coding (AAC), Ogg Vorbis and other audio formats.

All flash players that I found will eat all your memory since they will save your mp3 in memory before play. If this player solves this this is great thing.

Bridges added that under the ruling, consumers may, for example, legitimately transfer music from their audio CDs to their hard drive, convert the files to MP3 format and either play them on the computer or download copies of the files to the Rio or to other devices.

The MP3 player is built into an existing PC speaker which is separated in left and right channel. I built it whole functions in the right speaker. When left speaker is disconnected, left audio channel is automatically mixed to right channel as a monaural output.

The RIAA and Diamond would eventually settle their differences in August 1999, but by then Rio was a household name, especially among internet users busily sharing MP3 music on the internet using newly created peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing software.

What is mp3 ?

Through this semester, I found out various things about MP3, for example how to compress the music data or a problem of copyright and so on. In this paper, I show the results of my research. Briefly, MP3 is a compression technology for music data.

Being an open standard, and therefore available to anyone, mp3 has played a major role in the digital music trends. Mp3 is now undoubtedly the most universal and popular audio format in the world. However, if you thought mp3 converter is unnecessary, then you were wrong.

If I try K3b, it does not accept the MP3 format for music CDs, and if I make a data CD there is no way to make it play beyond one piece at a time.

In particular, if your music collection is extensive, you?ll need to balance music quality against quantity. You can store pure CD-quality audio on your iPod, but not very much of it. You can store a huge quantity of highly compressed audio on your iPod, but it won?t sound too great.

Ogg Vorbis is more efficient than MP3 and is the state of the art in audio compression technology. Used properly, recent Ogg Vorbis encoders deliver sound quality surpassing MP3 with all possible bitrates.

The big advantage of MP3, of course, is the compact file size. Audio files which are encoded at 128 kb per second are around 1/11 the size of the original audio file. As well as allowing Internet distribution of songs, the small size of MP3 files has also spawned the MP3 player market.

There are more powerful standards now, such as AAC, but mp3 survives for more than just casual music listening. In fact, it's often the default format used by broadcast and film professionals (including yours truly) for real-time audio transfers over ISDN lines, using multi-thousand dollar dedicated hardware codecs.

As with most things, MP3 is not the only form of audio compression algorithm. There are many other formats for compressing audio but support for these alternative formats is not universal. Therefore, when shopping for a portable audio player, one of the big considerations is the type of files it can handle.

But compressing a whole mix so that there's no dynamic range whatsoever kills the sound of a recording (and here comes my point) far more than data compression does. A lot of contemporary recordings have been degraded far more because of audio compression than because of file compression.

Apple iPod portable music players support the Advance Audio Coding or AAC format. Advance Audio Coding allows up to 48 audio channels and handles higher frequencies better than MP3. The result is better sound with smaller file size.

On top the chart is mp3 to wav converter. WAV (Waveform audio format) is a Microsoft and IBM audio file format standard. The sound quality of wav audio is was good as CD and it can be edited in most audio editing software platforms.

Convert audio to Mp3 files, using audio converter software. Mp3 isn't the only audio format being used. Many download sites offer other formats that many portable mp3 players can't read.

PocketTV works well with Internet Explorer. You can play an MPEG movie by just tapping a link in a web page.

In audio it's almost as simple, using a multi-track audio program that lets you flip the polarity of one channel. I did it in the cross-platform, open source Audacity.
