Corvette C7

After 60 years of making the Corvette, Chevy finally released the 7th edition (C7) Corvette this year. The new Vette has new styling that GM hopes will appeal to a younger audience, and wash away the stereotype as an old man's car. This means sharper edges and bringing back the stingray name that has not been on a corvette since 1976.

They also gave it plenty of power, the 2014 corvette has a LT1 6.2L V8 that make 455-460 bhp, depending on the exhaust choice of the customer. It is not just raw power though, the new corvette has some great technology in it. While when driving the car at it's limits you have 8 cylinders to keep you going, when cruising at speed the car can change to only using 4 or 6 of its cylinders in order to save gas and be Eco friendly.

Eco friendly does not necessarily mean that is a cool car though. They also gave the car a carbon fiber hood (along with other parts), a 7 speed manual transmission, and finally changed the infamous interior of previous corvettes. So maybe GM finally has a car that truly can compete with a Ferrari.

Ferrari F12berlinetta

The Ferrari F12 has been a hit since it was released last year, being titled the "Supercar of the Year" by TopGear.com. This replaces the 599 in the Ferrari lineup, but nothing is lost due the performance this car has. It has nearly 750 horsepower and double clutch technology in the transmission taken straight from Ferrari's Formula 1 car. This means that it it can go 0-100km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.1 seconds and run a 1/4 mile in 11.1 seconds. This is exception for a street car, even coming from Ferrari, as the Ferrari Enzo runs the same 1/4 mile in 11.0 seconds.

Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster

We just recently posted about the Lamborghini Aventador, but Lamborghini has recently stepped up their once top of the line car by releasing a roadster (convertible) version. This release has been highly anticipated since the one of a kind Aventdaor J (red car below) was released at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. The Aventador J remains a one off car that permanently lacks a roof, while the roadster is just like any other convertible. Except for the fact that it has a price tag of $441,600.

2014 Chevy Corvette C7

The next generation Chevy Corvette C& was released last Sunday (January 13, 2013) at the North American International Auto Show. This seventh generation Corvette looks much more modern than before, but still maintains that made in America feel that we have got accustom to with the long front, short back, and of course the air inlets behind the front wheels. This has been the most anticipated Corvette in a long time and while we still have a lot to learn about the car before you can buy one in 2014, it looks like this is a very promising car. Only time will tell if it can live up to the high standard set by more than 60 years of great Corvettes before it.

Lamborghini Aventador

The Lamborghini Aventador is Lamborghini's flagship car. It's full name is the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4. The Aventador can go 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 2.9 seconds. To put this into comparison a 2013 Mustang take 4.6 seconds to do the same thing. It has a huge V12 engine that makes 700 hp stock; however, there are companies like Underground Racing that push these cars even more than that. Underground Racing has a package that gets 1200 hp out of this beast, and they haven't even released their "race version" yet. Considering that the Aventador was modeled after a stealth fighter jet this much power just seems fitting, but just like fighter jets this car is pretty pricey. The Aventador costs an astonishing $375,000+, so for many people this will just stay a "poster car". It does however do a very good job at looking good.

Nissan GT-R

The Nissan GT-R is the super car of the "Playstation age." While some super cars, like the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, don't even have radios the GT-R has a full computer in the dash. It is also powered by a V6 instead of the V10 or V12 you see in most super cars but, this does not hold the GT-R back. The GT-R can go 0-60 under 3 seconds and the 2013 is a 10 second car, Stock. With all of these specs I am sure you are expecting to hear that this is priced with the Lamborghini Aventador or Ferrari Enzo, but you can get the GT-R for under $100,000. This is one of the first daily driver super cars and with all of the modifications that owners have each one is unique.

Hennessey Venom GT

When people talk about the world most powerful car you may think Bugatti, but the worlds most powerful convertible is the Hennessey Venom GT. In fact the Bugatti Veyron takes 24.2 seconds to read 200 mph while the Venom GT takes only 15.3. The Venom GT is based off of a Lotus Elise/Exige. Here is a quote taken directly from the Venom GT's website (http://www.venomgt.com)

The Hennessey Venom GT design is based on the Lotus Elise / Exige. The Venom GT is created from a base Lotus Elise / Exige and utilizes components including but not limited to the roof, doors, side glass, windscreen, dash, cockpit, floorpan, HVAC system, wiper and head lamps. Hennessey Performance and the Venom GT are not associated with Lotus Cars.

The price of a Venom GT is $600,000 for the 750 horsepower version, but if you want the fast 1,200 horsepower version it will cost you 1 million dollars. For this price though you can guarantee that you will have one unique car. There is a production limit of 10 per year and only 6 have been made so fat (1 of which being a convertible). Of these cars some of the owners include Jay Lenno and Steven Tyler (has the convertible). This is a ridiculously fast car, but still nice enough to take to the beach with the top down.

Ferrari FXX

The Ferrari FXX is every kids dream car, being based of Ferrari's latest street legal super car, the Ferrari Enzo. The current FXX costs a little more at an astonishing is 1.8 million dollars. The only setback to this car is that the owners cannot drive their multimillion dollar car as they please. The FXX is not street legal and Ferrari only lets customers drive their car on approved track days. The wait might be worth it for people like Michael Schumacher (Formula 1 driver) who choose to purchase this car, because each FXX originally had 790 horsepower and weighed just over 2500 lb. There are only 29 of these cars in the world and being able to drive one would be truly special. The FXX was produced between 2005 and 2007; however, these cars were continuously developed through 2008/2009 with the Evoluzione kit. This kit increased performance to 850 horsepower, aerodynamical advancements, gearbox improvements and a better traction control system. The FXX truly is the fastest car that Ferrari has designed yet, but only time will tell what they have to replace this beast.

De Tomaso Pantera

Pantera is Italian for panther and the De Tomaso Pantera was an Italian made sports car that was produced between 1971 and 1991. It was powered by a Ford 351 Cleveland V8 that made 330 hp. While Ford did not design the car they did imported Panteras to the United States to be sold them at their Lincoln Mercury dealers. Ford stopped importing Panteras into the US in 1975 after selling about 5500. For the Pantera though production continued until 1991 and they were sold throughout the rest of the world.

Dodge Viper

The Dodge Viper (recently renamed the SRT Viper), is the end result of Lamborghini coming together with Dodge. The fifth generation Viper (2012) has a V10 engine with 640 hp and is connected to a 6 speed manual transmission. Every Viper to date has followed this same format, a V10 engine with an excessive amount of horsepower and a 6 speed manual transmission to transfer all that power to the wheels. Over the years Dodge has continued to improve on their previous model and each new generation has had even more horsepower than the last. The base price for this car is $95,000. While this is not that much for a supercar that can go 0-60 in 3.3 seconds (with a manual transmission), bankrate.com named the Viper the most expensive car for repair costs in 2008. Aston Martin DB9

The DB9 is a very significant car for Aston Martin. The DB9 first model Aston Martin to be produced in their Gaydon plant located in Warwickshire, England. The "DB" in DB9 stand for the initials of David Brown, who owned Aston Martin from 1947 until it had financial problems in the 1970s. The DB9 follows a long line of "DB" cars and it sure lives up to its name. It has 469 hp and can go from 0 to 60 in 4.6 seconds. It also can achieve a top speed of nearly 190 mph. That is a lot of car for $170,000 ($190,000 if you want the convertible version know as the DB9 volatile). The DB9 has also entered many professional races and even when racing professionally they still use the same exact engine, but it has many performance upgrades and weight reductions. Do to these modifications the "race version" of the DB9 is now called the DBR9 (two bottom pictures).

Gumball 3000

The Gumball 3000 is a 3000 mile road rally that takes place every year. Since 1999 up to 120 exotic (and some more unusual) cars have lined the streets. Basically a bunch of rich people take all of their really expensive cars, including Bugatti Veyrons, Rolls Royce Phantoms and any other really expensive car you can think of, and then drive across the country together and just have a good time. This years Gumball left NYC the other day and is now in full swing. I do not want to talk about it too much and instead I will let the pictures speak for themselves (there are a bunch).

P.S. - If you guys want me to upload daily pictures from the gumball I can do that plus the regular posts, but I am not going to do it unless I get a few comments asking me to.

Ariel Atom

The Ariel Atom is a car designed by an American company know as a Ariel. They are currently on their 4th version of the Atom, the Atom 3. Previous to this there was the Ariel Atom, Ariel Atom 2, and the Ariel Atom 500 V8. The current model can go 0-60 in 2.9 seconds and is powered by a 2.4L engine made my Honda. While this is not that big on an engine the entire car only weighs 1350 pounds. This means that it accelerates, brakes, and corners very quickly. It's 6 speed transmission will push this car up to its top speed of 155 mph. This car has been seen beating Ferraris on road coursed and it costs about half as much. The base price for a new Ariel Atom is $52,480.

Nobel M600

The M600 is a car with 650 bhp in "race mode" and is made by a little company in England called Nobel. It is a RWD (rear wheel drive) car with a manual transmission and very little computer aid. There is no ABS at all and the traction control is minimal. It is built for someone who truly wants to "drive" there car without computers doing it for them. There are about 50 M600s produced each year selling for $330,00 each, but for that price you can go 0-60 in 3 seconds flat. Just looking at this car will give you an idea of how much work went into each one.

Pagani Zonda Cinque

The Pagani Zonda Cinque is Zonda's street legal version of the Zonda R (the bottom picture of the black car). It costs about $1.8 million for the Cinque, but that guarantees you 1 of the 5 cars that they made (they also made 5 more convertible versions). This car is so advanced it doesn't even use carbon fiber. Instead it is made out of carbon-titanium. This car was built for the track though with 750 kg of down force when the car is launched at over 300 km/h. It is powered by an AMG engine that makes 678 horsepower and the intake looks awesome sitting above the roof.

Burnouts

The burnout originated in drag racing. In drag racing spinning the tires servers the purpose of heating up the tires to their optimal temperature, laying rubber down on the track for better grip, and cleaning of the surface of the tires that might have debris on them. Since then burnouts and donuts have also been used to show off and there are even burnout contest to see who has the best burnout. Some people even put bleach on their tires to get more of that famous white smoke or use special tires that can cause the smoke to change colors.

Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce

The Lamborghini Lamborghini Murciélago SV was made at the end of the Murciélago's production run. It as given the number LP 670-4 SV, just like each newer Lamborghini has a number that matches it's model. Each part of this number has some sort of significance. At the beginning of the number "LP" stands for longitudinale posteriore. This is just a fancy way of saying that it is a mid engine car (the engine is behind the driver). The next part, "670," is the amount of horsepower that the car has. The Murciélago SV has 670 horsepower, which is a ridicules amount for a street car the could easily be driven every day. The last part of this is the "4" which simple means that the car is all wheel drive. The all wheel drive system on this car is very high tech and gives it much more traction allowing for much better takeoffs and acceleration.

Ford Mustang

The Ford Mustang was and is one of America's favorite Muscle cars. The first model was produced is 1964 1/2 and they are still being produced today. The body style has changed a lot over the years and after what many people thing is the uglier years (1979-1993) Ford is now on the fifth generation of the mustang and the newer body style is looking more and more like the original mustang. The newer Mustang is sometimes referred to as one of the "modern muscle cars" and they have plenty of horsepower to live up to this. The Shelby GT500 has 662 hp and is claimed to be the most powerful production V8 in the world. Overall this is one of the greatest American made cars today and they are everywhere, but as you can see with the pictures each one is unique.

Lotus

This post is not for one specific car model, but Lotus as an overall car brand. Lotus' gets laughed at a lot, being called "the poor mans Ferrari," and things like that but in reality they are not a bad car at all. Many car companies are judged by their performance on the track and currently (May 9th, 2012) the Lotus-Renault team is in third place for the Formula 1 season. This means that they are ahead of the main Ferrari team as well as two other teams powered by Ferrari. They are also ahead of Mercedes and the Mercedes development team. So if this is any predictor of their performance then "the poor man" will smoke a Ferrari any day.

While that would be really good for Lotus this is not the case with their road cars. One of Lotus' most popular cars is the Lotus Exige only does 0-60mph in 3.88 seconds, and that is the fastest version of the Elise. The Ferrari 458 Italia goes 0-60 in 3.0 seconds. Once you think about it through the Ferrari cost 5 times as much. It takes $240,000 for a Ferrari 458 Italia, but the Lotus Exige only costs about $50,000. So while Lotus is not the fastest car on the road it is not slow either and you get the most speed for your money.

Maserati MC12

This is the Maserati MC12. This car is Maserati's first return to racing after 37 years. The MC12 weighs in at almost 3000 pounds, with 620 horsepower. It is built on a Ferrari Enzo chassis (red car in the top picture). Even though they were build on the same chassis the MC12 is bigger, but has a lower drag coefficient (less wind resistance) due to its smooth curves.There were 50 of these great cars produced in the two years they were made. Some were road cars, while others were build to race. They entered the American Le Mans series but were to big in both length and width; however they did race in the FIA GT, FIA GT1 Wold Championship, and Italia GT. It weighs almost 3000 pounds, but has 620 horsepower.

Ford GT

These are some pictures of a great looking Ford GT sitting in front of some graffiti and a brick wall. The name Ford GT is based of their original model from the 60's the Ford GT40.The original Ford GT is the blue car. The GT40 was named this, because the highest point on the car was 40cm high. The new version (car in black) is now 44.3cm so it is easier to get in and out of. This particular GT40 has previously won Le Mans in the 1960's.

The pair of horse shoes seen on the rear of the GT40 were there to advertise Gulf Oil's No Nox gasoline, which was their premium fuel in the 60's. When a politician was supported by Gulf Oil, or a voter was a supporter, they wore gold twin horse shoe pins with their party's mascot on them (picture below).

Ford Fiesta Rally Car

This is a great picture of Tanner Foust jumping his Ford Fiesta at the X-games. The traditional Ford Fiesta is a small "soccer mom" car that is not very fast. The biggest engine that you can get in a regular Fiesta is a 1.6 liter that makes 180 hp; however the car jumping here (his 2010 car) has 575 hp. It also has a completely new body to make it more aerodynamic, as a well as a complete roll cage so if he doesn't land on his wheels he is still walk away (hopefully).

Nissan GTR/Porsche

This is a Black Nissan GT-R (left) and a older Black Porsche (right) sitting inside an shop, even though I doubt either of these need work. The GT-R is, according to some, the first Japanese super car. While some people argue that the NSX was a super car first. Either way, though, the GT-R is extremely fast, especially for it's price. For just under $100,000 you can hit speeds of 195 mph (according to motortrend) and go 0-60 in 2.9 seconds (2012 model). Then there is the Porsche is there in the background, completing the picture, with two evil twins. Or as the photographer said "Dark Nights".

Porsche 356

This is a picture of Porsche 356 at the HSRCA Historic Car Races.

The Porsche 356 is the first production car Porsche ever made, being produced between 1948 and 1965. It was a two door sports car with a rear engine. This one was made into a race car, just like many others have been. It has the racing stripes with it's number and the country flags on the side.

If you look at the hood you can see the leather straps they used to hold the hood shut. These leather straps would most likely be replaced by modern metal hood pins in either corner of the hood if it were to be raced today. These hood pins or in this case straps keep the hood from blowing open at high speeds. This were definatly needed considering some of the races that this car was entered in, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Carrera Panamericana.
