Hot Tubs – to Own or Not to Own

My in-laws own two timeshares, one in New Hampshire and one in Las Vegas. Although they don’t frequent the one in Las Vegas often enough (they rent it out); they do frequent the New Hampshire timeshares quite often. They are older and love to get in the hot tubs. I have often wondered though if they would really benefit from having a hot tub right at home. I can see where if they had their own hot tub they could save a lot of money on gas and wear and tear on their vehicle just to visit the timeshares for simply using the hot tubs throughout the year (an amenity). The drawback to having one at home though – is that they would then be responsible for all the upkeep.

I did some research to find out exactly what the upkeep would entail. Wow – is all that I can say. I knew that some types of chlorine were used to treat the water; but didn’t realize that there was a whole line of spa chemicals needed to keep a hot tub running at its optimum level. I added up the cost of the hot tub, the hot tub filter, the spa chemicals along with one of the many choices of hot tub covers – you’re talking a lot of money to keep that hot tub running. Oh – that’s not even counting the electricity (hot tub covers do help) or the time involved.

I suppose for them, since they are paying yearly maintenance fees for each of the timeshares, and they aren’t all that far away from their home, for now it would be best for them to not spent the money on the expenses of a hot tub and hot tub supplies needed for it. Maybe in years to come – they will sell the timeshares and then could put that money towards having one out their bedroom door.

It’s that time of the year here in New England where we set out to begin our spring planting and prettying up our yards. I usually buy a few perennials each year and a few annuals. But every year I always buy mulch – I just love the way it looks and love the benefits I get from it.

You can have a great looking garden – just like these:

I love the gardens above. I am currently working on one like you see next the house (pic on left) and have one like you see in the pic on the bottom. This year – I’ve added two trees to that mixture – a dogwood and another lilac tree.

Wedding season is approaching. And if you happen to be the bride and groom – or the parents of either – you just know there are so many things to think about. So many costs involved. There are many ways that one can cut costs if you’re on a tight budget – one of those being cutting the cost of the bridal bouquets and other flower arrangements.

When I got married I opted for my bouquet to be of silk flowers while the rest of the wedding party, the flowers for the church, and reception hall being real flowers. For me – my silk arrangement was a matter of having a keepsake but I really love fresh flowers. However, there wasn’t a whole lot of money to spend on my wedding so we had to be creative, cut corners, and make compromises.

The Mid-Life Crisis – Are We All Susceptible?

A mid-life crisis is a natural part of human existence and human nature. They can occur for many reasons and often occur from ages 40-60. Ultimately, scientists are still unsure why exactly people ‘break down’ in this period of their lives, but ultimately it comes down to two fairly simple realizations, the first is that they don’t have much time left to find the meaning that they have always thought they would find in their lives and at the same time realize that they have not done as many meaningful things in their lives to date and have possibly wasted their time. These fundamental realizations can be triggered by many different events which I am going to outline below. I will say first however, a Midlife crisis is inevitable, everyone will have one, some are more extreme than others but we humans are yet to find the true meaning of existence on the planet for ourselves and are constantly worried by that fact. My point is that life is a journey to further understanding and we each need to experience things to make our lives meaningful and midlife crisis’ are just one of those experiences. An article here on the meaning of life has definitely helped me to understand the world.
